i’ve been taking a second (well, third [actually mor like fourth])look at the northern caves and, honestly, if i was a fan in-universe and then i read the northern caves and the notes by his friend about mundum and the terrible task or reorganizing the world i would have been extremely dissapointed

i feel that, as a fan, i would have understood that chesscourt was a great big allegory to communicate a system of thought, a strange life philosophy, talking about great terrible responsabilities and the unsuspected consequences that stem from a complex network of connections that are related to the most minimal of seemingly innocent actions.

but i would have interpreted the series as a blue print of sorts, a greyboxed interpretation of a system. where if you swap the labels and change the texture packages of the thing, you would find a 1:1 correspondance with some great and terrible mental mechanism which had been unsuspectingly built inside your brain as you read it all

 but is not really that, is it? is not a simile, is more like a metaphor. its meant evocate the mentality of someone who understands the system, not necesarily explain the system itself. is meant to hypnotize you into the cast of mind needed to understand the philosophy of salby.

which means that the actual particulars of chesscourt were actually irrelevant, the story could have been about anything and told in many different ways in order to get that effect. the system presented in the universe of chesscourt would not even be a toy model of it all. 

and if i was an avid reader of chesscourt going down on spelunk 04 with the other guys i would have been actually kind of underwhelmed by it all. the actual machinery that was built on paper is not important, the cast and design of its gears is superfluous, all that mattered was the impressionistic result it had on your mind.

the actual choice of words in the giant manuscript is not actually relevant, passages like

are not really a code, there is nothing special in “clest” or “luminodes” or “understrum”. the words dont matter qua words, the whole is meant to be more than the sum of its parts. is meant to point and gesture at something that is actually independent from its parts.

is not that is gibberish, is something worse, it’s poetry.

I have never been in a canyon with an all encompassing surface, the deepest you will find is over three miles (5 km) above the ground, but they are so close that I can't imagine how much dirt there is to go around. I've spent more than 100 years learning how the natural formations formed and where these deep cracks were laid and found to be very interesting.
