Brent Geese in flight over the salt marsh at Thornham estuary with the North Sea in background - beautiful coastal Suffolk..
Now is the time to see the ducks and geese overwintering in Norfolk and Lincolnshire on the marshes of the Wash, escaping the frozen winters of their northern breeding grounds
Flocks of wigeon with their strange whistling call. Here they are grazing on Frampton Marsh. Later we see them in great rafts, floating out at sea — didn’t know they did that.
Further out, beyond the sea wall (not a wall…
got another lifer today, my third of this week: the great shearwater! i saw a few & i got some lovely looks at them in the spotting scope, saw their white collars & dark caps & smudged bellies
lots of sooty shearwaters too - saw one turn in the right light & its silver underwings flashed <3 lots of arctic skuas & a small flock of pomarine skuas too
at one point close to shore, an arctic skua launched a particularly frenzied chase on a kittiwake & it was close enough to hear the kittiwake shrieking
03/03/2024-A beautiful day at Hayling Island Oysterbeds and home
Pictures taken are of: An angelic Mediterranean Gull the bird I came here wanting to see and it was amazing to see them with their stunning black heads, ruby red bills and pure white colour in summer plumage with their dulcet tones surrounding us in the hustle and bustle of them and the Black-headed Gulls coming into their nesting grounds here which was lovely to see, a bright daisy, in a nice meeting of the seasons one of the gorgeous Brent Geese I made the most of seeing close to their migration now today one of my favourite birds, views on a brilliant day by the sea at Hayling Island which I really loved being out here in, the tree in pink blossom and a key bird seen at home today Collared Dove on a sunny and frosty morning out the back and Roe Deers at Hayling Island it was lovely to have seen and photographed them three days running now a male we saw with nice antlers again I've not often seen this species with antlers really. Other key sightings at Hayling Island were Great Black-backed Gull, Great Northern Diver seen well again here this year, Pintail, Oystercatcher, Grey Plover, loads of Redshanks, Little Egret, Sparrowhawk a bird I'm on a great run for to start the year, Grey Seal which was nice to see in the water, lesser celandine, daffodils, a group of mallow leaves climbing high at the shore and Cetti's Warbler heard. On the way it was lovely to see my first Brimstone butterfly of the year by the motorway with Goldfinches in the sun, Magpie including on the car and a stunning Blackbird singing at dusk other at home highlights. A day that epitomized the change, hope and joy of March.

The Brent Goose is a small, dark goose - of similar size to a Mallard. It has a black head and neck and grey-brown back, with either a pale or dark belly, depending on the sub-species. Adults have a small white neck patch. It flies in loose flocks along the coast, rather than in tight skeins like Grey Geese.
So this is my first proper attempt at a landscape. It went ok I guess.
I still have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to taking and editing pictures of my garbage though. Especially how different things look on a phone vs a monitor.
Any c&c welcome, I know I have a lot to work on, I just don't know what.
not to get Sentimental but i was looking out at some mudflats at low tide which were full of birds & i just felt so at peace. the oystercatchers were piping & the curlews were making their lovely bubbling calls & the brent geese were making their low honks & it was just such a wonderful feeling to see & hear them all <3
