Breyer’s next release in the “Birds of a Feather” series will be drawn soon and emails will be sent to those lucky enough to be chosen from the entry lottery! He is a limited edition of 500 named after the bird he’s based on, Magpie! His paint is black with blue interference to give him a metallic blue shine. Hope I get picked for this boy, also interesting to see breyer take an unrealistic approach on this entry in the series as previous birds of a feather models have leaned towards heavily realistic. Only slight change i would have wished is since he is already unrealistic, i would have liked to see him with dark colored hooves as I feel the colors would have had more cohesion and real magpies have black/gray feet.

They’re interviewing a policewoman and her horse now, and like ... it’s hard for me to muster any girlboss horsegirl energy for the cops.
I also did a quick google so I wouldn’t be talking completely out my hindquarters (hah) and it says mounted police are usually used for crowd control and oh yeah occasionally they’ll trample people.

I am going to commit a sin in the world of Breyer collecting. I'm going to do my best to pay money for a palomino Family Arabian Stallion that someone colored on.

Hey Breyer collectors, in a hypothetical situation where you have the funds to purchase 1 pre-owned/secondary market ( like on Ebay) Stablemate you want what price range would be a hard limit for you? Even if you want it A LOT, you have the money, but the small size doesn't feel like it's worth it what what a seller is asking for. Customs aren't included here only official releases.

One of my favorite collection tours:
youtube
Most collection tours seem to only include Breyers or Schleich, and no information about the figures or how the collector got them. Meanwhile this guy is like "here's a figure given to me by a friend in the hobby, here's a thing I bought on a trip to the US, here's a thing I sculpted," that's the kind of information I wanna hear!! I don't care about rarities or prices, I wanna know why you, personally, are in the model horse community.

Niche fandom happenings to take your mind after whatever stuffs happening in your fandom:
So as you can probably deduce, the model horse collecting hobby is made up mostly of older people. The hobby has been well established since the dawn of the Internet and I've talked a few times about how it's difficult to find some older resources about it/its history because of how every other link you click on which used to lead to a hobbyist artist's angelfire blog now is just a dead link or worse, bought out by some ad company sitting on the URL. Up until recently, a huge portion of hobby talk still relied on now-defunct Yahoo groups; now most have moved to either forums like Model Horse Blab or private Facebook groups. Individually most of these are pretty decentralized, but since model collecting by nature is a hobby that requires a significant amount of financial interaction (buying, trading, selling, commissioning, etc.), there has to be some kind of centralized marketplace for people to pitch their goods to as many corners of the hobby as possible.
Enter Model Horse Sales Pages (MH$P), a, well, site where people can post sales pages for model horses and accessories. It's an old fashioned sales pages site from the 2000s with a somewhat shitty layout but unparalleled detailed search functions-- to order things from a seller, you'd have to personally email them to negotiate for their listing. Though this seems somewhat inconvenient to our modern senses used to one click payments and speedy delivery, MH$P is undoubtedly a pillar of the model horse community.
... So that's why people are scrambling as it's allegedly been hacked and taken down for the foreseeable future. Worrying about personal information aside, now fans are left to wonder: what's the alternative? Well, the first one is of course eBay, which many hobbyists already use. However, eBay is obviously less catered to model horse hobbyists and is therefore a bit harder to search if you're deep in the hobby and can't be assed to look through 4000 "plastic horse" titled listings to find the 2008 SR glossy xX Devilish Girlfriend++ Thoroughbred you want. MH$P occupied a specific niche for long time fans looking for grails.
So what are our alternatives for people in the hobby looking to buy from others in the hobby? Well, there's a few decentralized official dealers like Chelsea's Model Horses or Triple Mountain who you can consign older models to, but going through a middleman takes time and you have much less freedom in your personal listings. Alternatively, you could go grassroots and post listings in Facebook groups and on forums, but those have reaches limited to the members of those specific, often small, groups, and it can be hard to move stock that way. So now people are looking for a backup marketplace platform, both for the current situation and longtime health of the hobby. But imagine my surprise when I went on Model Horse Blab and saw people suggesting an alternative site kickstarted by
STAR STABLE ONLINE YOUTUBER DENIS/DENISE WISESTORM. Denis has been a controversial figure in the SSO fandom (though there's pretty much no uncontroversial ssotubers especially on ssoblr because clickbaiting and weird reactionary takes are like the bread and butter of that side of the fandom) who's been called out for having some alt-right homophobic views in the past, as well as for his abject and unproductive negativity towards improvements made on the game. He's a lps customizer and pretty prolific breyer collector, though, so his drive to create a model trading and selling platform makes sense at least. But still! Why him!!!!!!

I have such a deep love for all collections and collectors no matter how bizarre or mundane, no matter how big or small the collection is. Especially as an autistic person my collections bring me such a sense of peace, joy, and stability. Sometimes they’re a way to have a physical representation of a regulatory (“special”) interest of mine as well! I would love to hear about other people’s collections but here is a (probably incomplete) list of my established collections (i.e. things I have intentionally collected) :)
My collections
Physical
- Hello Kitty Products (I have some Sanrio stuff in general but mostly Hello Kitty)
- Postage Stamps
- Breyer Model Horses
- Dice Sets
- Road Turtles (also known as raised pavement markers)
- Stuffed Animals
-Cassette Tapes and Vinyl Records
- Cool things from the side of the road
- Bones (ethically scavenged only)
- Local Queer Newpapers
- 1990’s and earlier Skater and “Adult” Magazines
Digital
- “Vice Litter” which is pictures of garbage I’ve found relating to common vices
- Queer Protest Photos
- Music!
If you want me to share pictures of any of my collections or make a post talking about them I would really love to!!! Also please tell me about your collections!!! I love hearing why people collect what they do especially!!!

I know of a Breyer collector via the Bella Sara community, who got rich off computers back in the 80s and has been buying shipping containers to hold the horses she doesn't have room for in her house and garage. I don't want to share too many details for privacy reasons, but if anyone reading this knows of a website with photos of thousands of Breyer horses and scans of every single Bella Sara card ever released, that's her, and, with very few exceptions, those are all her own photos of her own collection.
She once shared a photo of her storage containers in a Bella Sara group chat and it was mind boggling. Extremely impressive, but absolutely mind boggling
(I also feel the need to add that she's extremely nice and very helpful to new collectors, all this is just to say that, yeah, Breyer collectors are *intense*)
Honestly, and I mean this genuinely, you only live once so do whatever makes you happy and if that's having shipping containers full of plastic horses by all means get on with your bad self horsegirl. I love people like that in collector communities. If she has the money and resources and is actively keeping up with an archive to share with new collectors then that's pretty baller.

For anyone new here that doesn’t know this already, I am that horse girl 🤪
In my free time outside of writing and questioning all of my life decisions, I’m an avid collector in the model horse community! I’ve been collecting Breyer Horses since I was 7, and then as a teenager I transitioned into buying customs and resins. I’ve built my collection up over the years and I even attend model horse shows! :)
Here’s my Din & Grogu resins that a good friend of mine customized and painted for me 🥹

Ellie & Joel are in the works, and I’m so so excited 😭😭

A toy design soapbox, if you wish: Breakability.
I think you should be able to have toys that are comparatively difficult to break at all price points as well -- not just ones that are intended for gnawing and tossing, but for just dealing with even the most well-intentioned child's handling.
Breyers caused so much anxiety for my parents and I! The plastic -- or porcelain or whatever they use -- powders rather than snaps, meaning that gluing the delicate little legs back on is nigh-impossible. My father, endlessly patient as he was, even tried drilling a hole into the leg, and attaching a screw into the cannon bone. No dice.
I received Breyers at a very young age (my earliest being when I was about 5), and was often gifted with them, or similarly breakable but beautiful items, because I was "so mature" and "so careful". A broken leg for a Breyer is as deadly as it is for a real horse, and for someone who doesn't have a particularly good grasp on "real" and "not real", the vagaries of wall-to-wall loop carpeting seems like a preventable tragedy that was all their fault.
This is another reason I love Schleich (which were $4-$8 at my local zoo gift shop). The animals look beautiful and intelligent, but you could drop them 50 feet and they'd be fine.
Thank you for sharing your experiences on the subject.
My aunts had Breyer horses, they were beautiful sculpts but they weren't toys, they were collectables of the Hummel variety, and not a great match for actual kids, no.
Schleich is a very good option for kids that want that kind of high detail and sculptural beauty but with durability and playability, and the extra cost is directly reflected in the quality. Their fantasy stuff is also very creative. Some of the best monsters on the market.
There are the rare kids who really like delicate model kits, glass menagerie figurines, etc, but that's a specialty situation that parents or collectors should be aware of in advance.

how fun! 15 and 15, thanks for the tag @aviatorobsessed

1) Are you named after anyone? When I was born I was named Dakotah, and I'm fairly sure that name came from a porn star, but I eventually legally changed my name to Miriam, who is a figurehead of Biblical history. So yes and no, I guess?
2) When was the last time you cried? Yesterday with my horses. We had a great day and I just sobbed out of joy and relief.
3) Do you have kids? No. I'm unattached and no kiddos. I'm still young-ish but not sure if I even want them or not.
4) Do you use sarcasm a lot? Contextually, yes. But I'm not a super witty person. Funny, yes, but not witty.
5) What sports do you play/have you played? I played softball in the summer in my middle school years but being homeschooled didn't allow for many opportunities. I do horse stuff now!
6) What’s the first thing you notice about people? Their personalities, presentation. I have pretty good discernment and can tell if people are bullshitting me or not.
7) What’s your eye color? Blue! Depending on the sun they can either be sapphire or ice.
8) Scary movies or happy endings? I don't do horror but I love thrillers and action movies! Happy endings are usually so unrealistic it bothers me, as someone who writes and knows film, but I do like when things shake out. I'd rather have a gripping ending that fits the character and theme of the story.
9) Any special talents? I've been told I'm an excellent writer, though I don't believe any writer is truly excellent. It's my gift. Also have an eye for taking pictures but lack technical skill. Have also been told I'm a decent actress, but I've yet to develop this skill.
10) Where were you born? Minnesota *sighs*. I wish I was born in the south, though.
11) What are your hobbies? Film/movies, writing, reading, photography, horses, and I'm an avid Breyer horse collector.
12) Do you have any pets? Arguably too many! Four horses, four dogs, two cats, and half a dozen fish.
13) How tall are you? Average. 5'6".
14) Favorite subject(s) in school? History, literature/English, Vocab, and I loved Science but was awful at it! In college I loved New and Old Testament History, Creative Writing, Introduction to Theatre, Psychology, and Interpersonal Communication. I was a student lecturer for Introduction to Creative Writing.
15) Dream job? I'd love to work in film someday, but I'm currently working my dream job as far as my degree is concerned! I work in marketing as a copywriter for one of my dream brands!
I don't have 15 moots but I'll tag some of my favorite accounts– @vermilionbirdy @spicydisaster14 @musicalmedli @chaoticassidy @sakar-rad @blueeyeddarkknight @icemankazansky @thewolveswithin
