my god I have no idea how I never connected this before but of course Nastya was involved in the coup! For both characterization reasons and just. Mechs-typical horrible decisions reasons. That insight brings her backstory far more in line with the others we know.

So that makes the story (as I see it) that she’s worried about the political situation, and feels like no one else is doing anything about it (see the updated lines about her parents). She’s conflicted about what’s right, and her tutor manipulating her is not helping. Sometime after she asks her father to spare the protestors (or maybe before? was that not just out of desperation or compassion but because she was already working with the rebels???), she makes a plan with her tutor to help the rebels peacefully storm the palace. Her tutor promises they’ll leave together into the glorious future or whatever. The real plan, of course, is the stuff that ends up actually happening. Nastya’s tutor reveals that the plan was always to kill her (the Lashings transcript brings up a bit on the website about the tutor “explaining that the old regime must die, there can be none left alive,” which clarifies the reasoning). They shoot her, Yenin stumbles upon her before she dies, giving her the chance to shoot him. Carmilla, disguised among Yenin’s people, stays behind as the rest rush him away, and... kind of explains her offer? The updated subtitles and transcript show her being much more informative than previously thought, even if I’m still not certain the situation qualifies as informed medical consent.

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT????
