she stares into the restaurant where the group of blondes sit, trying to count in her head if she should finally announce her presence.
she’d been lurking in the group chat watching them make plans. plans that included her by default yet she still hesitated to bring herself out to meet them.
perhaps it’s too soon to be here? unless oscar wasn’t lying when he said that her other friends miss her too despite isolating herself for more than half the year.
“what are you doing lingering out here in the cold?” a familiar voice fills her ears with a soft chuckle. “come on in and join us for lunch, silly.”
“oscar,” she laughs sheepishly, scratching the back of her head. “i’m afraid it’s too soon for me to be here. i’ll just head back home.”
oscar tilts his head and furrows his eyebrows. he watches her turn on her heel and starts walking in the direction of her apartment. “what?” he grabs her wrist and yanks her towards the entrance of the restaurant. “no, you told me you’d join us today. you got ready and everything — even did your makeup! you look great, mate.”
she tries to pull herself back. “i don’t even know if they want me here.”
“remember what i told you yesterday,” oscar stops in his tracks and turns around to face her, “sometimes it’s all in your head. this time, trust me when i say it is. liam and mick missed you just as much as we did.”
she hesitates for a moment but eventually nods. oscar cheers and pumps his fist in the air. “great! then let’s go.”
oscar guides her into the restaurant and slowly approaches the table where their friends sit.
liam scowls at logan, “i’m seriously curious about whatever the hell goes in your head.”
“what do you mean?” logan asks, slightly hurt, “it’s a legit question. they’re just infected — sick, perhaps — so technically they’re still human.”
“point taken, but like… i wouldn’t consider them human still,” mick mumbles hesitantly, seemingly in deep thought over logan’s question. “but that’s just a very… peculiar question.”
“if rocky was here, she’d entertain me unlike you losers,” logan scoffs, folding his arms over his chest. “your answers are basic. i want an actual nurturing conversation about zombies and their human rights.”
“you guys got an extra seat for me? i have opinions about zombies and human rights,” she says softly with a smile. “i know i haven’t joined you in a while and i’m sorry. but if you let me—”
“oh, you’re here!” mick jumps up from his seat. he rounds the table and shoves oscar away from her then throws his arms around the small girl. “there’s always a seat for you! what do you mean?”
“welcome back,” liam beams with a nod. “mick here has a list of gossip he wants to talk to you about.”
logan scowls, “gossip that he refused to tell us unless you’re around.”
“well, why would i tell you boring idiots are gossip i worked so hard to get?” mick scowls, rolling his eyes. he starts to guide her towards his seat and pulls out a chair for her to sit next to him. “for a bunch of uninterested answers and sighs?”
“i could be—”
“whatever!” mick says exasperatedly, rolling his eyes. he sits her down in the seat and takes his own, pulling his phone out from his pocket. “so i have a list. let’s start with whatever the hell is going on with red bull and max.”
Tumblr media
liam watches the girl walk out of the restaurant first, with the ruse that it’s too warm inside the restaurant. he excuses himself from mick, waving him off nonchalantly as he tries to settle the bill.
“i’m glad you’re back,” liam hums with a smile, approaching her with his head dropped and kicking rocks on the ground. “missed you, mate.”
“thanks,” she laughs, looking up from her phone. “i’m sorry i clocked out for a while there. i didn’t know how to cope with the year we were having.”
“it would’ve been nice to have you around,” he admits softly, finally stopping by her side. “this season has been so cruel to us. wish we had each other a little bit more, you know? we could’ve just gone through it together.”
she throws her head back. at some point in the year, she did consider that. but she’d tried getting herself to reach out to liam, but by that time, it felt like a case of too little too late.
“i know,” she sighs with a small smile. “i’m sorry. i thought you were doing perfectly fine without me.”
“the world’s always been a little harder on you, let’s admit that,” liam rests his arm on her shoulder, “we’re just glad that you’re back. you look like you’ve gotten back the colour in your face.”
“yeah, it’s about time,” she nods. “so, about your offers from other teams. anything that stood out to you yet?”
liam grins. “i’ve been meaning to talk to you about that after summer break. i didn’t think i’d see you til then,” he laughs. “they’re gonna announce it on the first race weekend from summer break.”
“you made a decision!” she shrieks. though, she feels her chest slightly tighten. liam avoiding a direct answer can truly only mean one thing and it’s that she’ll have to cozy up with some new driver that isn’t one of her closest friends. “that’s amazing, i’m so happy for you!”
“i’ve re-signed with andretti, mate. a year extension and if it goes well next year, i’m definitely staying a little longer,” liam jumps up and grabs her shoulders, “we’re going to be teammates forever!”
“what?” she almost drops her phone from the bombshell he’s dropped on her. “you’re not leaving?”
“don’t tell the guys yet, it’s a secret til then!” liam immediately recomposes himself when the doors open and their friends walk out.
“what are you girls giggling about?” oscar snorts, shaking his head. “keeping secrets from us?”
“it’s a teammate thing.”
Tumblr media
“what are you doing still in the car?” logan hums, hunching to look into the car. the girl continues to sit in the passenger seat and looks ahead blankly. “oscar’s already at the door, dude. let’s go.”
“what if they hate me forever?” she frowns, turning to logan with slight tears in her eyes. “i sucked. not very family-friendly of me to act the way i did. and missing the anniversary party? not very cool either.”
“just get out of the car,” logan snorts, finally opening the door for her. he points towards the house and looks back at her. “come on. your dad told us he made your favourite cookies if it will help get you inside.”
she rolls her eyes. “you told papa i was coming?”
“just him, i promise.”
“boo. you suck.”
but she follows logan out of the car anyway. she watches as logan drags both of their bags towards the door and gives her another smile. then he walks down the pathway through the front yard to make his way to the front door.
she watches from the car as the front door opens, revealing her mother with a wide grin as she greets logan and oscar with open arms, yanking them in for a tight hug and kisses on cheeks. she only gets noticed when oscar steps aside to point at the car.
“you’re here!” her mother shrieks, hands on her cheeks as she pushes past the 2 boys in front of her. “my love, i missed you so much! i’m so glad you’re here!”
she remains in her position, hands fisted by her side as she watches her mother thread the stone pathway to walk over to her. “you look amazing. i’m so happy that you’re here.”
arms are thrown around her tightly, catching her off-guard. she’s barely even got the chance to get her carefully constructed apology out. for how she’s acted, for how she treated everyone in that house for the couple of days she spent in it.
“i’m seriously so glad you’re here. good thing i made your favourite,” her mother shrieks, starting to yank her towards the house. “and papa made cookies! then blythe stocked up on the ice cream you like hoping you were coming by with oscar and logan.
“dalton’s going to be so glad that you’re here.”
“dalton?” she asks in surprise, lifting an eyebrow as she follows her mother into the house. “isn’t he mad at me?”
her mother grins and stops right before they enter the kitchen. her cheek is cupped by her mother tenderly and the other hand brushes through her hair. “blythe sat both ciara and dalton down and told them off. i’m sorry i didn’t see you were struggling — i thought i was helping. i didn’t know.”
“you know?” she tilts her head with furrowed eyebrows. tears fill her eyes as she slumps her shoulder. “i didn’t mean to take it out on you. you know i love you, mama.”
“it’s okay. you’re still just my baby,” her mother sighs, pulling her head in to rest on her shoulder. “i should have known you were just overwhelmed. i’m sorry i didn’t notice and drove you even further.”
“oh, cool! you’re here!” dalton’s voice echoes in the house, making her jump off her mother. “i made you cookies!”
“did not,” ciara scoffs, rolling her eyes, following dalton down the stairs. “we had to buy a new batch of ingredients cause he put the egg whites in with the batter.”
dalton shakes his head disapprovingly as he passes the mother and daughter. “they told me too late. they’re not the best at instructions and that’s why you can tell ciara works all by herself in a measly little studio — can’t lead for shit.”
ciara smacks the back of his head. “fuck you.” the younger girl turns to her oldest sister with a smile. “welcome home. we set up just dance so we can watch logan trip over his feet all evening.”
“hey!”
Tumblr media
apologising should come easy, she’s already done it attempting to make amends for the past 2 weeks with everyone. though she can’t ignore the churning in her stomach as she walks down a familiar hallway.
drafting the apology speech in her hotel room came naturally to her. with logan and oscar’s nod of approvals, suddenly she was ready to head out.
but there’s still the worry that it could be rejected.
who would want to take her back, anyway? it’s a miracle that everyone else in her life has received her with open arms after the way she acted.
she stares at the plain door for a moment and takes a deep breath. she just has to say she’s sorry, that’s all. just like how she told her friends she would.
she bites down on her lip as she finally musters the courage to land a knock on the door.
“give me a second!”
“okay, no rush.”
footsteps from inside the apartment halt for a moment. she hears heavy footsteps approaching the door and something dropping on the floor, then stumbling, making her smile to herself. then she hears the locks click hurriedly before it’s yanked open.
matt sighs in relief and throws his head back. “thank god it’s actually you. i thought i was going crazy hearing your voice.”
“over exaggeration,” she points out with a small smile. she sucks in a deep breath and exhales shakily. “hi.”
“hi,” he slouches slightly and leans on the door frame. “why didn’t you tell me you were coming? i could’ve picked you up from the airport.”
she waves his concerns away with a soft laugh. “it wouldn’t be a surprise if i asked you to pick me up, would it?” she looks down and extends her hands, a bouquet of flowers pushed into his chest. “these are for you.”
“what?” surprised, yet he still takes it into his hands. “what are these for?”
“i’m sorry,” she says softly, pursing her lips with a soft shrug. “i didn’t wanna do it over the phone or make you fly to london just so i can do it there… i blew things out of proportion and i pushed you away when all you wanted to do was help. i’m the one who burned us down.”
“they’re apology flowers?” he points out, slightly amused, scanning the bouquet with a smile. “you came all this way to say that to me?”
“i didn’t know how else to show you how sorry i really am.” she shifts uncomfortably and tucks her hair behind her ears. “i’ll spend forever making it up to you, i promise. i should have coped better and—”
“i missed you,” he says in a sigh. he puts the bouquet down on the top of his shoe back and lunges forward to throw his arms around her. he squeezes her tightly and buries his face into her hair. “you seriously should have told me you were coming.”
“matt—”
“i’m so excited that you’re finally here! i was taking kota out on a walk the other day and i walked past this new ice cream shop. i think you might really like it there,” matt starts to ramble, pulling away. “just give me 20 minutes and let’s head out for a date? how does that sound?”
she blinks, slightly taken aback by how he’s reacted. “what?”
“i haven’t been away that long, have i?” he stares at her curiously, furrowing his eyebrows. “you still love ice cream, don’t you?”
“yeah, but… you know… i was so mean to you for so long. shouldn’t you be a little angrier at me for what i did? i was such a bitch.”
“you were having a hard time,” he says immediately as she tries to berate herself. “i don’t blame you for that. it’s okay; we’re okay.” he pulls her into his apartment. “i’m just glad you’re back — my girlfriend’s back!”
Tumblr media
“hi,” she greets with a smile, catching the older man off-guard as he approaches her. “fun summer break?”
sebastian flinches slightly and looks around him. there is nobody else here that she could be speaking to but him. “hi?” he smiles hesitantly. “it was. how was yours?”
“it was alright,” she shrugs, pressing her lips together into a thin line. she moves towards her bags to leave an empty space open for sebastian. “i got you something over the break. i went to los angeles for a couple of days.”
he tilts his head and jab his finger into his chest. “you got me something? on your trip?”
“yeah,” she grins. she turns away momentarily to grab something out of her bag and turns to present a pair of mugs to him. “i’m sorry i broke our matching mugs that one night in the paddocks. and i’m sorry i was a total bitch the entire season and that i was a big fat meanie, as dalton put it.”
he laughs, throwing his head back. if you’d asked him, he would have been more worried if they started the second half of the season with her still in the trenches.
it’s relieving to see that she’s gotten colour back into her face, making conversation and looking well put together. if her behaviour continued any longer, he’s afraid it would have become permanent at some point.
“you’re okay now?” sebastian grins, patting her on the head. she beams and nods. “okay enough to eat some ice cream?”
“yes,” she sighs exasperatedly with the roll of her eyes. “i can’t believe i haven’t eaten ice cream for 2 months. can you believe i stayed away that long?”
“honestly, i thought all this stemmed from the lack of ice cream,” sebastian jokes, poking her shoulder. “welcome back, kid. let’s make the best out of the rest of our season, okay? no more cowering into the corner — we face it head on.”
she nods firmly. “okay.”

coming up lavender, part two
cassian x reader x azriel
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
part one
author’s note: thank you guys for the love on part one <3 i’m very excited about this series!! comment or message me to be added to the taglist!!
summary: the high lord of the night court and his inner circle have taken reader from her home—the only one she’s ever known. what awaits her now? what interest could they have in her?
warnings: angst!! emetophobia warning at the beginning--it's brief!! ptsd, reader recounts her traumatic childhood. misogyny, and other canon-typical themes. this is an 18+ series.
Hands collide roughly with wooden flooring; grit your teeth as you rise to your feet. A poorly-stifled chuckle has you whirling around, glaring at the assailant: Cassian.
"Welcome to the House of Wind."
The Illyrian grins, despite the ire in your expression. "You'll get more used to it over time--winnowing, that is."
You hunch over, finally hurling the contents of your stomach. At least it didn't happen in the great hall.
"Eventually, that won't happen, either," Rhysand adds from beside Cassian as he plucks seemingly invisible dirt from his tailored suit. Where the rest of his inner circle had gone, you couldn't be sure.
You dry heave a few times before standing straight once again, and ball your hands into fists at your sides to mask their shaking. "What do you want?"
Rhysand waves his hand, disentegrating the mess you left on the floor, then studies you for a moment, face unreadable. "For now?Nothing. Nuala and Cerridwen will show you to your room. We'll start training in the next few days. Once you're settled in."
Instinctually tense as a hand grabs your arm from behind you. "Don't touch me," you hiss, only to immediately relent and flush with embarassment as you meet the eyes of the two females Rhysand mentioned. "I'm sorry."
"Nonsense. We should've said something before touching you," the taller of the two murmurs, an all-too-familiar pity lacing her words. "I'm Nuala," she points to the shorter female beside her, "My sister, Cerridwen."
You give the sisters a tight-lipped smile, and follow them out of the main room. And try to ignore the way shame weighs on your chest as you feel the males' eyes boring into your back--surely noting your reaction.
~~~
To your relief, no one bothered you the first two days, besides Nuala and Cerridwen to ensure you were eating and drinking.
Until now, with Morrigan at your door. You recognized her from court, though the two of you were much younger. Before your power grew, and you were shut out from the world.
"Are you adjusting well?"
Take a step back as she enters your room, cross your arms over your chest as a defense. "Hard to adjust when I have no idea where I am, or what I'm here for. I barely know who any of you are. Who you are, even."
"You can call me Mor, for starters," she says, trying for a smile. "I'd rather let Rhys explain exactly why you're here. But know that you're safe. You're free."
Your brows furrow, words caught in your throat as you consider the weight of Mor's words. Free. Free. Free.
Slowly, Mor takes your hands in hers. Squeezes gently. Understanding in her eyes. She's been here before.
"Would you like to see the library?"
Eyes light up. You nod; blink back tears. "Yes, I would."
~~~
After mere minutes in the library, you decided you would be content to spend the rest of your life there. You likely could spend the rest of your life there, with countless books still left unread.
Mor gets distracted by a couple of the priestesses, leaving you to your own devices. Fingers trace the dusty spines of books far older than you, far older than the space they reside in.
Heavy footsteps sound behind you, and you turn, to once again be met with Cassian. Hair tied back in a knot, sky-blue shirt with a few buttons undone, showing off a chiseled chest--
You silently curse yourself, thanking the Mother he can't read thoughts. Can he?
Clear your throat, arms once again wrapping around yourself. Wrack your brain for something casual to say.
"There are a lot of books here."
State the painfully obvious. Way to go, genius.
A smile from Cassian that sends your heart aflutter. "Not used to seeing so many books, I take it?"
Hold his gaze, fingertips digging into your arms out of habit. "We--my father had a library in our estate, but it's much smaller. I wasn't permitted to enter very often."
Cassian stares. "Oh..."
Realization dawns on you, and you bark a laugh. "I can read. It was one of the few things I could do, back...home." You falter on the last word, tasting bitterness on your tongue. "It's simply discouraged for women in the Hewn City. Deemed 'uneccessary.'"
He shakes his head, and somehow, you can feel his disgust, his rage.
Shrug off the feeling, try to muster a smile. "Well, if the House of Wind is this beautiful, I can only imagine what the city is like."
Cassian smiles. "Velaris is beautiful. I'd love to show you around, eventually. There's this restaurant by the Sidra that--"
"Eventually...?"
He nods. "We have to make sure your powers aren't volatile--"
"Volatile? I've spent decades shielding my power from other people. What makes you think--"
"We don't know what to think, y/n. We don't know you. We haven't seen your powers, beyond what little you showed the day we rescued--"
A bitter laugh. "Rescued. Does wording it that way make you feel better?"
Cassian's expression hardens. "What else would you call it?"
Bite your tongue, ignore the way your power stirs underneath your skin. "Am I free to leave the House?"
Cassian sighs, face quickly changing to one of pity. "You have to-"
"Stop looking at me like that. Am I free to leave the House? To explore the city?"
A long breath. "No. But you can explore the entire House. I can fly you around--"
Arms tighten around yourself as you scoff. "Then I suppose I've simply traded one prison for another."
Turn on your heel, ignore the way your chest oddly aches with each step you take. "I'm going back to my room."
Mor appears from behind one of the shelves as your start climbing the stairs. "Do you need help getting back?"
"I can find it myself. Unless I need an escort, too?"
The pair look away; picture of shame.
You don't spare another glance to either of them as you leave.
~~~
The corridor to your room feels tighter than usual, windows smaller. Loose another shaky breath to leash the panic threatening to spill over.
At least you weren't in your father's grasp. That had to be something. But what did you trade it for?
Racing thoughts cease as you spot shadows swirling at the end of the hall. They recoil suddenly as you gaze at them--as if shocked they were caught.
"If you have something to say, Shadowsinger, best to ask me to my face."
Nails bury in your palms as you wait for a response, heart thumping behind your ribcage.
Shadows dissipate as a figure walks through. Not quite as tall as Cassian, but he still towers over you. Visibly marred hands tucked into his pockets, wearing a gray sweater that looks so comfortable you consider stealing it from him.
"You're observant," Azriel says, lips turned up ever-so-slightly.
Roll your eyes, fight off a smile. "For someone of your position--the renowned Azriel Shadowsinger, one would think your shadows would be better hidden."
Smile widens, revealing pretty white teeth. "They were hidden. I've never seen anyone notice them so easily." As he speaks, confusion paints his face for only a second before disappearing. "Are you okay?"
His eyes dart to where your hands still remain in fists. He can likely hear your heartbeat, smell your panic.
Stiffen, rub your hands along your sides. "I'm fine. I'll be fine."
He seems inclined to question further, but thinks better of it. "Alright."
Pick at your nails, glance down the hall. "I hate to be rude, but I was trying to go--"
"To your room."
"--to my room."
You laugh as the two of you speak in unison. "Yes. My room." You offer another smile, begin to walk past.
"What's your name?" Azriel questioned.
You turn, arch a brow. "There's no way you don't know my name. Rhys, or someone had to tell you."
A shrug. "I forgot. Remind me."
Liar. You smile.
"Y/n."
"Y/n," Azriel repeats. You try to bury the way your cheeks warm, hearing your name on his tongue. "Have a good evening, y/n."
You nod, and hurry off to your room. It isn't until your door is shut that you realize your smile hasn't left your face.
The Air That I Breathe
Idk how to write reader fanfics without a million 'you' words so you're just gonna have to ignore that haha.
Emily Prentiss x F!Reader
Summary: You get caught following an unsub. You believe you are going to die so you make a confession to Reid.
Might make this a two or three parter, depending on if it’s what the people want haha.
TW: Fire, explosions, smoke, coughing, suffocation.
Word count: 1321
Any constructive criticism is welcomed! Be kind about it tho lol.
The team had to split up. There were two abandoned buildings in the area which suited the unsubs needs and you, Prentiss, Morgan and Reid were on your way to one of them. Hotch, Rossi, Tara and JJ were on their way to the other. As you were pulling up to the building, the unsub could be seen on the roof, a child in his arms and a gun pointed to their head. 'I wondered when id be seeing you!' He exclaimed. Prentiss unholstered her gun and pointed up at him. 'Let her go! We can sort this out without getting her involved.' Emily called, trying to find a way in. 'No. You know what, I think ill have some fun with her first.' The unsub walked away, his haunting laugh echoing through the carpark.
Morgan and Reid's SUV pulls up, both of them jumping out immediately. 'Whats going on?' Morgan looked to both of you with worry. 'The unsub has a child hostage, we need to get in there.' You respond. The anxiety in your voice does not go unnoticed, Morgan replies, 'Its gonna be okay, you call Hotch and tell him to make their way here. Ill call Penelope, see if she can find out how many exits there are on the floor plan.' You nod, pulling out your phone.
As soon as you finish filling in Hotch, Morgan comes back with a plan. 'Right guys, there are two exits. One to the left, and one to the right. Prentiss and I will take the left, you guys take the right. Remember to stick together. The others should be here soon to help.' You turn to Reid, giving him a 'we can do this' look. He returns it, unholstering his gun and turning towards the double doors. 'Come on, i'll head in first. You cover me.' You turn back to look at Emily, her dark ponytail swishing as she walks. 'Please be okay', you think. You don't know what you would do if she got hurt. Same goes for Morgan of course, but he's not the one you've been in love with since you joined the BAU. You shook your head, getting ready for what you might face and follow Reid into the building.
The both of you are silent, the only noise filling up the space is the sound of your footsteps. The corridor seems to go on forever, twisting and turning like a- BOOM. You and Reid are thrusted back, both of you knocked into a daze, confusion waving over both of you. A few seconds later your eyes open. Everything seemed to go in slow motion, as if you're not fully in your body. The ringing in your ears seems to be the only thing keeping you lucid. You slowly blink your eyes, realising Reid is standing over you mouthing something. As everything finally catches up to you, you take a sharp inhale. You can tell Reid is relieved by this by his facial expressions. A few seconds go by and the ringing starts to subside, you can finally hear Reid repeat 'you're okay, you're okay, its going to be okay.''
'What happened?' you mutter, slowly pushing yourself up onto your feet. 'An explosion. I believe the unsub set us up. He has a past with arson, we should have seen it coming.' Reid rambled, you can tell he hasn't quite come to terms with it either. 'Lets get back to the doors, can you walk?' you ask. He nods, wrapping his arm in yours incase either of you lose balance. As youre both stumbling towards the exit, you both notice smoke starting to fill the space around you. You both look at each other with fear, knowing the dangers of smoke inhalation. As you reach the doors, you both push the the handle down. Nothing. you try again. And again. And again. Your breath starting to quicken, the smoke building up, making it more and more difficult to breath. 'Reid?' You spoke. He can hear the fear in your voice, he feels it too. 'I know.'
After a few minutes of desperate attempts to open the door, you both give up. 'If we can't get out this way, lets go deeper.' Reid sputters. 'Are you insane??' The idea just spoken, had you standing in disbelief. 'Are you mad Reid?' 'No! I mean, maybe. The smoke inhalation can't be doing good things to my brain.' He jokes. 'But seriously, what if we find a window? We could smash it and get out. Here we're just sitting ducks waiting for the smoke to take over.' The idea plays in your mind for a few seconds as you turn back to the door. He's right. We can't just stand here waiting for people who may never come. Emily and Derek could be dead for all we know. Hotch and the others could take too long to get to us and we'd have suffocated. You turn to Reid and give him a reluctant nod. He takes you in his arms, guiding you to the floor. 'We have to stay low, smoke rises.' He coughs, you must admit the air is far easier to breath down here. You both slowly shuffle farther and farther down into the building.
A few minutes in and both of you are coughing regularly, neither of you mentioning the possibilities of what we could or could not find. We both start to feel the corridor get warmer and warmer as we approach a room on the right. We both stand, our hearts in our throat as we hope for a way out. As soon as we look in, our hope is crushed. Flames envelope the room, almost impossible to see anything in there. the heat and smoke hitting our faces, causing us to cough. Reid grabs your arm and we start to run past it. Maybe there's another room further down.
You both quickly approach a set of double doors, both of you holding your breath until you reach the doors. The sound of Reid pushing on the bar to open it and. Locked. Shit. 'No no no NO NO.' Reid yells, using all of his body weight to kick, punch, push the door down. A laugh starts to echo through the passage. Reid turns to look at you, out of breath. 'Whats so funny?' You then realise the laughing is coming from you. Why are you laughing? You force yourself to stop, the seriousness settling in your stomach. Shit. You both stand in silence for a moment. 'Shall we try heading back? Maybe Hotch is here now.' Reids head is in hands, he's trying to soothe himself. 'Reid.' He looks up, and nods at you. You take his hand, ready to walk back when a loud bang is heard down the hall. Followed by bright flames, both of you could feel the heat radiating from it. Tears start to flow down your face as all hope drains from you both. You both fall back onto the double doors, sitting on the floor. The idea of both of you dying now becomes a reality. We are going to die. You sigh and put your head onto your legs. 'I love her' you scoff out. 'Love who?' Reid asks. 'Emily. Always have.' Tears continue to flow. Reid pauses for a moment. 'It all makes sense now. You light up around her. I just thought.. I don't know what I thought but it makes sense.' Reid pulls you into him, both of you leaning on each other. 'Its ironic isn't it?' You say. 'Hmm?' He mumbles. 'Im gasping for air yet its Emily I want most. She's the air that I breath, I can't live without her.' You close your eyes as Reid puts his arm over you. The next few minutes you both spend thinking of those you love, while sinking deeper and deeper into darkness.
so high school
part: 1 pairing: paige bueckers x oc word count: 2.4k c/w: language a/n: hiiiii guys! welcome back :) this is going to be such a fun one to write. some of you were wondering about maya, and she was poc! most of my oc's are poc just btw. anyway, hope you enjoy this! for the sake of this fic, uconn did win the 2024 national championship. yes, that's a pipe dream. it's fine! i'm trying out writing in third person, but if you guys like first person better, lmk. feedback always appreciated, love you all as always!!
Paige isn’t a patient person, she thinks. No - she knows. She taps her foot anxiously in the car. She’s dressed in a blue suit with a white t-shirt underneath, a pair of dunks on her feet. Her hair is down and straight, makeup done to perfection. But for some reason, her leg just will not stop bouncing. Azzi frowns, reaching over to push her leg down and hold it still. “Can you chill?”
“What is taking so long?” Paige whines. Azzi flashes her a stern look. “Damn, you can’t sit still for two minutes?” KK demands. Paige gives her teammate an incredulous look. “Now you know damn well,” she starts, but then there’s a knock at the car door. All fourteen of the UConn Huskies inside the car look at each other warily. “Do you think it’s the Secret Service?” KK asks. Ice answers her by smacking her on the shoulder while Paige pushes the car door open slowly.
A head of dark hair pokes itself inside. Paige is startled. She yelps and lurches back, only to be met with dark eyebrows furrowing themselves into a frown. Paige’s blue eyes meet hazel and she hardly has time to process that the girl in front of her is quite attractive before the door swings all the way open and her teammates are clamoring around her.
“Hi, y’all! I’m Gia,” the girl smiles, and her teeth are straight and white, full lips stretching over them. “I’m gonna take you inside now, so y’all are free to get down.” Paige is still recovering a little, because this girl is startlingly beautiful, and she’s shocked that nobody else is acknowledging it. She’s a tad jealous that KK immediately grabs the girl’s hand, shaking it eagerly. Paige climbs down out of the limo, straightening her suit jacket. The girl - Gia - is walking ahead of them, a pale pink phone clutched in her right hand, matching nails tapping against it. Paige notes the gold adorning her hands, mentally appreciating the rings she has stacked on her fingers, the dainty bracelets encircling her wrists. Paige is mesmerized by the way her hair cascades down her back, streaks of caramel filtering through the dark brown in soft curls.
She watches the way the girl’s hair swings as she turns around to address the team. Paige trails her eyes down the girl’s body. The white blouse she’s wearing is cinched at the waist by a navy blue pencil skirt, nude heels on her feet. Her tanned skin seems to glow in the sunlight, and Paige’s eyes catch on a hint of gold sparkling against the warm brown between her collarbones - a gold necklace with the letter ‘G’ on it. “Okay, so I think you’re gonna have people film you walking up - ah, there they are. So, hang tight here for just a sec, and then when we want y’all to start walking again, we’ll say something.” Her eyes rove over the group, and Paige realizes just how obviously she’s been checking her out when Gia’s eyes meet hers and the other girl’s mouth twitches at the corner.
Paige looks away quickly. Next to her, Ice elbows her. “You are not slick,” the taller girl mutters to her friend. Paige shoots her a glare. “I have no idea what you’re talking about,” she mumbles back, her eyes easily finding the girl again. Paige feels heat rush through her body when she catches Gia’s eyes roaming over her body in the suit, eyes trained thoughtfully. Her eyes meet Paige’s again, and Gia bites her lip, looking away.
The cameras begin rolling, filming the well-dressed Huskies making their way into the White House to meet the President and First Lady. Once inside, they follow Gia through the hallways, and Paige tries desperately to remain respectful, keeping her eyes from lingering on the girl’s ass or the way her hips sway as she walks. She fails miserably.
“Damn,” KK whispers from next to her, and Paige starts, wondering when the younger girl had sidled up to her. “She’s fine, right? It’s not just me?” The blonde nods her head, her mouth going dry. ‘Fine’ didn’t even begin to describe it. As though she’s heard them, or perhaps even the guard’s inner thoughts, Gia twirls around on her heel, her intern ID mimicking her movement. “Sorry, y’all. This whole process is a lot of waiting. We had the Thunder in here for theirs and it took forever.”
She taps at her phone for a second, scrunching her nose as her nails clack against her phone screen. Paige decides that she likes the sound. “When they’re ready for you, I’ll give you the go ahead, and y’all just head through these doors right here, sound good?” Gia’s words trail off a little at the end when she catches Paige’s eyes on her again, but she quickly snaps back into place.
“Y’all look so good,” Gia gushes, turning to Azzi. Paige realizes that this girl is probably straight and that she should stow away whatever thoughts she’s having deep, deep down, then lock them up and throw away the key. Azzi does look good, Paige supposes, in her pink business casual dress. Paige tugs self-consciously at the sleeve of her suit. “You look good, too,” KK reassures her, but Paige’s ears have caught on something.
Gia’s talking to Azzi. “Yeah, my ex went to UConn,” she’s nodding to Azzi. Paige continues listening in, unsure completely as to why. “Ah, was he a basketball fan?” Her teammate inquires. Paige listens in, somehow feeling that she might get a sense of satisfaction from knowing this girl’s ex-boyfriend was a fan of hers.
“She was a big Azzi Fudd fan,” the girl admits, and Paige can’t hide the smile that flits across her face at that. Azzi seems touched by this. “Aw, that’s so sweet! Well, I guess not, because you guys broke up, but…”
Gia shakes her head quickly. “No, no, it’s so chill.” Now that Paige is really listening in, she picks up on a hint of Southern twang in the girl’s voice. “I’m a big fan, too, honestly. Of all of y’all,” she hears her say. At this, some of the girls perk up. “Who’s your favorite?” KK demands immediately. Gia laughs, the sound tinkling and lovely. “Probably you, KK,” she admits. “Girlypop!” KK exclaims, jumping up and down, grabbing Gia’s hands.
“Girl, that made my day,” KK tells Gia as she laughs at the girl’s antics again. “Everyone’s always a P Boogers fan.” At this, Gia’s eyes flit to Paige’s, and Paige swears her heart drops to her stomach. “P Boogers, take a picture with me!” KK squeals, making fun of her teammate, but Paige and Gia are only looking at each other.
“You’re not a fan?” Paige hears herself ask. Gia smiles slightly, crossing her arms casually. “I didn’t say that,” she says, smiling slightly. “Ah, but KK over me?” The blonde muses. Before Gia can answer, KK’s draping an arm around her shoulders and squeezing. “Gia knows what’s good,” she nods solemnly, and Gia laughs at this again.
Paige internally pouts. It certainly doesn’t seem like this girl is into her younger, energetic teammate by any means, but for some reason, Paige wants her attention. All of it.
“Oh! They’re ready for y’all!” She exclaims suddenly, glancing at her phone. Paige doesn’t want to leave. She certainly doesn’t want to go meet the President, and she’d much rather stay here and figure out just why this stunning girl prefers KK to herself. Gia looks up from her phone, noticing Paige lingering back. “Hey, all good?” She asks. Paige nods, her fingers tingling at the fact that this girl is talking to her. Directly to her. Gia touches Paige’s arm lightly, and it sends sparks zooming through the taller girl’s body. “Hope I didn’t hurt your feelings too much,” she jokes, and Paige’s heart thumps at this.
Paige’s eyes zoom in on Gia’s manicured hand, the tan of her skin stark against the light blue of her suit. She didn’t think it was possible for someone’s hands to be so attractive, but they really are beautiful. “Nah, you’re all good,” she breathes. “You coming in with us?” She asks suddenly, then cursing herself for how glaringly not smooth the question is. “Uh, I can,” Gia says slowly, clearly taken aback by the question. “If you want.”
Paige feels a smile tugging at her lips. “Yeah. That would be cool.” Gia smiles slightly at her, and Paige thinks she might die. Then she gestures for the blonde to go first before following her inside.
_________
Gia’s aware that the President of the United States is speaking. She’s sitting in the back, one leg crossed over the other, supposedly watching him intently. “Your 2024 NCAA…” Yes, yes. She knows. But her eyes are trained on Paige. She’d tried to play it cool, and she doubts that she succeeded.
Somehow, she’s even more attractive in person. Gia remembers watching her back in high school, all those tapes of insane passes and crazy shots and back and forths with opposing coaches. She’d followed Paige’s career, because really - how could you not? She remembers being saddened by the news of her ACL injury, and is impressed by the comeback she’s made. She watches Paige make her way to the podium, taking the mic from the President.
“Thank you so much, Mr. President. It really is an honor to be in our nation’s capital, an honor to be in the same room as all of you. These guys are my family, we’re all family here, and we’re just so blessed to be standing on this stage. I stayed true to myself, stayed true to God, and now we’re here, after all those obstacles, as national champions. It means a lot to be here right now. Thank you all, thank you, Mr. President, Madam Vice President, thank you.”
She wonders for a second if Paige is nervous, speaking in front of all those people. The way she speaks is so smooth, words just rolling off her tongue, mouth forming the words in a way that’s so attractive it should be criminal. Her demeanor is laid back, but there’s a sincerity to what she’s saying. She watches as the blonde hands the mic back, and her teammates pat her back teasingly as she rejoins them.
They take pictures, mingle for a bit, and Gia waits patiently to escort them out. After the room clears, and it’s just them, she approaches the group. “Hey, Gia, right?” Nika Muhl calls the shorter girl. “Yes! What’s up?” Gia asks. “You know any good food spots? We’re trying to figure out where to grab dinner tonight,” she says. “You should come with,” KK chimes in.
Gia twists her mouth, considering the offer. KK grabs her arm, tugging slightly like a small child, but it’s so endearing that she’s already planning on saying yes. “Come onnnn! It’ll be so fun,” she begs. Her eyes wander around the group. “Are y’all sure?” she asks. They all chorus ‘yes!’ and nod eagerly. “Okay,” she relents. “I get off of work at five, I’ll meet y’all after? I can show you some good places” Nika smiles at Gia, nodding. Gia thinks momentarily that she’s even prettier in person. “Can I get one of y’all’s numbers? I’ll shoot you a text when I’m off.”
“Mine,” Paige says quickly from behind Nika. KK shoots her a weird look and Nika snorts. Paige clears her throat and Gia tries not to smile too hard. “Uh, my number. I can give it. To you, I can give it to you.” The intern looks at the blonde curiously, wondering why she’s acting so odd. “Yeah, of course,” Gia replies, and wonders if it’s too fast. Too eager. “If that’s easiest,” she amends quickly.
“Yeah, Paige is an iPad kid, so if you text, she’ll definitely see it,” Ice informs her. Paige frowns at her teammate, smacking her lightly before handing her phone over to me.
She types her number into the taller girl’s phone, saving my contact as “Gia Thomas”. “There you go,” Gia smiles at her, handing it back. Their fingers brush ever so slightly, and they both ignore the electricity that seems to shudder through them at the contact. “I’ll text you?” Gia breathes, and hates how airy her voice sounds. Paige nods. “I’ll be waiting.” She wags the phone at her, blue eyes twinkling, shooting over a dorky smile.
___________
“MINE!” KK screams gutturally, mimicking her teammate, and the team bursts into laughter again, their giggles filling the hotel room. “Shut up!” Paige groans, slouching on her hotel bed. It’s the fifth - maybe sixth - time that KK had re-enacted her interaction with Gia back at the White House. KK scampers over to Paige, falling dramatically to her knees in front of the blonde. “Please give me your number! Please! PLEASE!” She begs dramatically, and Paige makes a face at her, shoving her away.
“Fuck off, KK,” she gripes. “Girl, boo,” KK complains, clambering back up off the floor. “You are not smooth, bro,” Ice intones from where she’s lying on the bed. Aaliyah hums in agreement. “Daddy Paige, who?” Aaliyah snorts, and Paige’s eyes widen. “Hey!” She says loudly, offended, and the room bursts into laughter again. “Dude, it was bad,” Azzi says, and Paige splutters. “It was not!”
“You were practically drooling over her when we first walked in, and then basically foaming at the mouth for her number,” Azzi informs her, always quick to humble her best friend. “You guys are shit friends,” Paige grumbles, pulling her knees up to her chest on the bed and pouting. Aaliyah reaches up to pat her knee. “If it makes you feel any better, you can’t possibly embarrass yourself any worse tonight,” she says matter-of-factly. The room murmurs in assent, and Paige smacks her teammate with a pillow.
“Is my game really that rusty?” She demands, and everyone clamors over each other to inform her that, yes, her ‘game’ is downright pitiful.
“Okay, thank you!” Paige yells, cutting them off and muttering, “Assholes,” under her breath.
"Welcome in. What can I get for you today?" Bada said as a customer walked through the door.
Working at that coffee shop was part of her usual routine. She used to dread every time she had to clock in since dealing with customers wasn't really something she wanted to do every day.
"I'll have a latte with three pumps of vanilla and a splash of heavy cream and make it a decaf with oat milk," The woman said.
"Sure thing. Would you like that hot or iced?" Bada said but the woman wasn't paying her any mind as she looked at her phone.
"Ma'am?" Bada asked once more.
"Uh, no iced. I'm here every day, you should know this. The name is Yujin. Keep the change," the woman tossed the money on the counter and walked off.
Bada took a deep breath. She clutched the money and threw it into the register.
"I swear I can't do this any longer," Bada said to her coworker.
"Those dance classes won't pay themselves, Bada," He replied with a smile. She rolled her eyes and turned to the bar to begin making a drink.
The cafe was very empty. Rush hour was over and Bada began to clean the counters when she heard the door open.
"Hi, welcome in," She said and looked up to greet the person but she froze.
You stood before her with a warm smile. Dressed in ripped jeans with a white crop top and sneakers, your hair was up in a claw clip and a few strands were loose at the front you walked into the register.
Bada was mesmerized by you. She was frozen in her spot and just looked at you as you looked at the menu above her.
"How good is your lemon pie? I heard good things about it but I'm not really into lemon flavors," you said diverting your sight to her.
she swallowed hard and didn't answer until the guy next to her nudged her shoulder.
"Oh, um... sorry. I am not a fan of it but you could try our chocolate and strawberry pastry. It's balanced so it isn't too sweet," she replied not daring to look at you.
"Oh, I'll have that and a regular black coffee," You said as you handed the car to her. She nervously reached out and took the card from your hands exposing her wave tattoo at you.
"That's a beautiful tattoo, miss. What's your name?" You asked wanting to know more about the gorgeous girl before your eyes.
"I'm Bada. Lee Bada," she said still looking down.
"Oh, hence the tattoo. I love it. Your eyes are pretty too," you said with a giggle making her look up at you.
"Ha, made you look," You said and she finally smiled.
"Here is your card back," she said and you took the card in your hands.
"Y/N, do you want to go to the beach this summer or should we go to the countryside?" A male voice said as he walked up to you. He wrapped his arm around your shoulder and you saw Bada's face turn sour.
"I'm busy, Min. Can you wait for me out there?" You said as you pushed him off you.
"I was going to say... I really like your tattoo. That wave is so cute," you smiled and she blushed.
"Bada... make that drink," her coworker said making her turn and almost slip. You giggled at her clumsy actions finding it cute how flustered she became around you.
So for the next couple of days, you would show up to buy a coffee and just sit in the lobby to watch her work. What you didn't know was that over the course of the days, Bada would leave work and follow you around.
She followed every step you took from a distance all the way to your home. She would sit at a bench in front of your house and she would watch who walked in and out.
Her blood would boil every time she saw Min walk out of your house late at night. She wanted to rip his head off and then present it to you as a trophy for your love.
-
A few weeks passed by and you had caught Bada following you. You knew you were head over heels for the girl, but you didn't know she also felt the same way. Why else would she be following you, right?
"Min, grandma needs you to go to take care of her for a few days. Mom has to travel to her new job. Please?" You asked your brother on the phone as you waited to order.
Bada popped from under the counter and smiled at you.
"What can I get for you?" She said.
"I'll take a regular iced coffee. Black," you said.
"Are you at that coffee shop again? Are you there to see your girlfriend, the barista, Bada?" He said and you thanked the seven seas you didn't have him on speakerphone.
"You know what? Mom should've given you up for adoption when we were born. Having a fraternal twin sucks. Go take care of grandma, Min before I rip your hair out," you said into the phone and hung up immediately.
"Here is that coffee for you," Bada said as she placed your drink on the counter. You looked at the cup and noticed that it wasn't a regular glass cup and it was in a plastic cup.
"Oh, what happened to your glass cups?" You asked.
"Nothing. We still have them but I just thought that you might have something to do after and you wouldn't want to be late," she said not looking at you.
"Um... are you kicking me out?" You said while grabbing the cold drink.
"No! Oh my gosh... I mean... I'm sorry," she said as she picked up the mess she made while panicking over your words.
"I'm kidding. I do have to go to the gym and I'm always late so, thank you for the drink. I'll see you later," you said flashing her a wink.
She melted. Everything about you made her go crazy. She knew following you around was probably wrong but she couldn't help it.
So you went to the gym and then headed home. You looked back once when you heard footsteps. Then you felt a presence behind you but there was no one. You knew Bada was probably hiding behind a wall or a bush but decided to ignore it and simply giggle while you walked.
When you reached the door to your house, you carefully unlocked it and stopped. You turned back and looked around when you saw a pair of shoes behind a bush.
"So, are you going to keep following me around like that?" You asked but she didn't move.
"Bada, I know you're right there. Come on out," you said once more and her shoes slowly moved.
"Do you want to come in?" You asked and she fiddled with her fingers walking slowly towards you.
You huffed and walked to her holding her wrist and pulling her into your house. You asked her to sit on the couch and offered her a cup of chamomile tea when you saw how tense she looked.
"So, why have you been following me from afar?" You asked.
"I'm sorry. I know it's creepy and you have a boyfriend so I don't want any problems. You're really pretty and I wanted to be close to you but I can't bring myself to talk to you," she said quickly.
"Whoa! Why do you think I have a boyfriend?" You asked.
"The boy that comes and leaves your house. Isn't that your boyfriend?" She said.
"Ew! Gross. That is my twin brother. Fraternal twins, so we look nothing alike. Bada, you know how much I've been meaning to flirt with you but you never look at me? It was honestly driving me insane..." you said taking a sip of your wine glass.
"Wait... what?" she said and tilted her head like a curious puppy making your heart flutter.
"What? You're a cute, and very attractive dancer. Though when you dance, you are extremely hot... but I have been watching you as well. I am attracted to you, Bada. In every possible way," You drank the last of your wine and put the glass down walking towards her.
You saw how she flinched back and you furrowed your brows at her reaction. Sure, you were being too direct and you didn't know how Bada would react but you need to know if she wanted you like you wanted her.
"Is that not why you followed me around the neighborhood? I caught you in the bus, the gym, the grocery store, and the alleyway. For Pete's sake, Bada. You sat in front of my house for hours. If not, then what was the reason?" you asked waiting for an answer as you sat closer to her.
You saw how nervous she was getting and decided to back off.
"Sorry. You know what? I can be too much at times so just ignore me. I'll call you an Uber to take you home," You said but as you were about to get up you felt her grip on your wrist.
You turned and met with the most gorgeous eyes looking up at you ever so innocently but hungry for one thing. You.
"Bada-"
"No, let me talk. I have been dying to talk to you because I... well, I've never dated or been with a woman before but you're so pretty and I was just drawn to you. Please don't let me leave. I'll regret it if I do," Bada said almost pleading.
Your heart softened at the sight of the tall girl looking up at you but there was something more.
"What do you want from me, Bada?" You asked and she pulled you making you fall on top of her. You ended up in her lap and her hands went around your waist.
"I want you. In every possible way," Bada responded and you immediately clashed your lips with hers hungry for a kiss. She bit your bottom lip and her hands moved up and down your shirt.
Soft groans escaped her lips when you began to move down her neck. Her grip on your waist tightened and you could feel her nails dig into your skin when you used your hand to squeeze one of her clothed breasts.
"Y/N~" she moaned and you smiled.
"I'll give you what you need," you said. You moved your leg so you could straddle her.
Your hand was already sliding into her pants and her legs parted willingly allowing you full access to her now-wet cunt. You inserted a finger inside of her with no warning causing her to yell out.
"Fuck... you're so wet for me, huh?" Y/N said as she pumped slowly in and out of the girl. She was already a moaning mess. You didn't stop your moments and you sped up by the minute searching for her spot.
"I- I never thought- I would end up in this- AH! Please, don't... stop..." she said between moans.
"Wouldnt think of it, Bada," you said curling your finger inside of her making her yell out in pleasure. You found it. You kept pressing down on it as your thumb rubbed her overstimulated clit.
You had already came just from watching her and riding her thigh but you didn't care about yourself. You were in ecstasy just from being able to touch Bada. You had been longin in desire of her in every single way.
With one last stroke and her body already shaking, she came on your hand and you brought it to her lips for her to taste herself shoving your finger deep down her throat making her moan even more.
After a few seconds, you both finally came to your senses.
"Holy shit, how are you so good?" Bada asked and you giggled without saying another word.
You stood up and took her to your room where you both got cleaned up and in bed.
"You know... you could've just talked to me," you said as you looked at Bada.
"No... I couldn't have," she said and you sat up.
"Why not?" You questioned
"When you walked in the shop... you were so surreal. You were just so perfect and I am too shy for my own good," Bada replied.
"You're so cute. Come here," You said pulling her into your chest and stroking her hair.
"I'm here for you now,"
Thank you for reading 🩵
Jake was replacing a string on his acoustic when you went back to the basement, tapping his foot to the beat of the song the guys were working on.
“Hey, Jake?”
He looked up. “Yes, my love.”
You gathered up your courage, remembering what Baby had said. “You want to take a walk? It’s nice out.”
“Sure. Let me finish this real quick.” He restrung the guitar and set it in its stand, happily taking your hand when you offered it. You told the guys you were leaving for a bit and started out on your walk, leaves crunching under your feet and birds flitting to and fro in the branches overhead.
“Where are we going?” he asked, swinging your joined hands between you.
“Nowhere in particular, I guess,” you said. “I just wanted to spend time with you.” And talk about your ex, you thought, but you couldn't say it out loud.
He smiled. “Okay. Suits me. I know somewhere we can go, if you want to do some tree climbing.”
“You know, I think I do,” you said dryly. “It’s always been my dream.”
He laughed. “We don't have to if you don't want to. But let me take you over there, and then we can decide.”
Conversation wandered aimlessly, comfortingly, as you walked together in the chilly woods. Jake spoke animatedly of a new song, thankfully not the love song he’d apparently given up on, and you watched his expression and loved the light of passion you saw in his beloved features.
You came to a group of three trees growing practically on top of each other; nestled in the branches was a platform of old wooden boards like the floor of an unfinished tree house. Nailed into the trunk of the trees was a makeshift ladder, and Jake stopped at the foot of it.
“Oh, Jake, you shouldn't have,” you teased.
He grinned. “I told you I knew a place. Come on.”
He helped you up to the platform, steadying you as you climbed a dozen feet off the ground. You were a little worried about the structural integrity of the platform, but Jake assured you it was sound, and you knew he wouldn't take you somewhere dangerous.
When you were satisfied that Jake has gotten rid of any immediate threat from spiders and other woodland critters, you lay on your backs and looked up at the bare branches overhead, watching the last of the amber leaves hang on valiantly in the breeze.
“Close your eyes for a minute,” he said.
You frowned, and he chuckled as he brushed his fingers over your cheek. “Trust me, sparrow. Close your eyes and listen.”
You did, breathing deeply of the cold, clean air, listening to the chatter of squirrels and birds as they wandered about the woods. A single, musical cricket played a lonesome serenade somewhere below you, chirping and trilling to find a companion.
“It’s music,” Jake said softly. “You hear it?”
A faint smile tipped the corners of your mouth. “I hear it.” You opened your eyes to see him propped up on his arm beside you, watching you with such affection you thought you could get lost in it forever and always be content.
“You like it out here?” he asked.
You nodded. “I love it.” You reached up and tucked his hair behind his ear, letting your touch linger. “Thanks for bringing me.”
“You’re welcome, sweetheart.” He turned his head to kiss your wrist. “I found it last year, and I’ve decided it’s a good little love nest.”
You let your hand fall. A sharp, painful something twisted in your chest, and all of a sudden, you didn't care how oblivious he was — that one hurt.
“A love nest?” you said weakly, your voice coming out less sharply than it felt inside.
He smiled, and it made the hurt worse. “Yeah. For you, little sparrow. And I guess I can be a jaybird. Jake-bird. You see the vision.”
You sat up, wishing you could hear the silly jokes you usually loved as something other than inane chatter. He brushed the leaves out of your hair.
“No Jake-bird, then?” he asked.
You curled your hands into tight fists. “I need to talk to you about something.”
He sat up next to you. “Okay,” he said, still lighthearted. “Talk to me. You want to switch rooms again? Do a night in every bedroom?”
“I’m being serious, Jake. And I don’t want to fight,” you added, trying to preempt any argument, feeling like it might already be a losing battle. “I just need you to listen to me.”
“I’m listening to you, sparrow.” Though you couldn't see his face, you could picture the mix of confusion and concern in his expression. “When do I not listen to you?”
Part of you knew it was unfair to accuse him of not listening to you on this trip, seeing as you'd never actually said anything about it, but you couldn't get past the desire for him to know without you having to tell him.
He leaned closer. “Sparrow. What could we possibly have to fight about?”
“No, I said I didn't want to fight.”
“Yeah, I know. I don't want to either, so I’m not sure why you’d even bring it up.”
You took a deep breath. “I need to talk to you about Izzy.”
You felt him stiffen beside you. He didn't say anything for a moment, absently picking up a few acorns and tossing them over the edge of the platform.
“What about her?” he finally asked, and his voice was flat.
You looked over at him.
“You brought her the last time you came to the cabin,” you said.
He nodded. “Yeah. Still not sure what there is to say about that, though. She was my girlfriend at the time. I took her on the trip where everybody brings their partners. So what?”
You swallowed. “So, you picked the same room for us that you stayed in with her.”
He frowned, like that hadn’t ever occurred to him. “I guess.” He met your eyes, and the understanding you needed to see there was nowhere to be found. “Is that why you were so all-fired to switch rooms?”
You couldn't believe this wasn't clicking for him. Maybe he was being intentionally dense, and that thought made you mad.
“Yes!” you said fervently. “Jake, are you serious? I don't want to stay in the room you slept in with her.”
His expression was guarded, defensive. “Well, we switched, so I'm not sure what the problem is.”
Before you could say anything else, he started to climb down from the platform, and you had the distinct, infuriating sense of being dismissed. You followed him down and caught up with him, walking with him back to the cabin.
“We stayed in there last night,” you said, unwilling to let him end your conversation when he decided he wanted it to be over. “And then you tried to get in my pants this morning, but you had no clue why I didn't want you to.”
He grimaced. “Don’t say it like that. ‘Get in your pants’. I hate that. Makes me sound like a creep.”
“Fine,” you said waspishly, feeling that this talk that was supposed to be so easy was quickly devolving into what you’d feared it would. “You wanted to make love to me, whatever you want to call it. Doesn't change the fact that it was in the same bed you've done that with someone else.”
“Okay, so, it wasn't the most intelligent move on my part,” he said, the admission made lackluster by his frustrated tone. “But you could have said something if you were uncomfortable. I'm not a mind reader, sparrow.”
That was a salient point, one he’d had to make frequently in your previous arguments, and it chafed you raw now just as much as it had every other time he’d made it. You chose to ignore it in favor of letting your jealousy and anger run wild.
“And then you went on and on about how great she is at things I'm bad at,” you said, “and — ”
“No I didn't,” he protested, angry now. “Don’t make shit up. I said she was good at Pac-Man. If that makes you jealous, that's on you.”
“And then,” you said, pointedly ignoring that too, “you took me to your love nest you found with her. How am I supposed to interpret that one, Jake?”
“I don't know!” He threw his hands up, exasperated. “I’m an idiot. But you're twisting this to make it seem like I’ve been hurting you on purpose, when you know damn well that’s not true.” His gaze was hard and angry when he looked over at you. “You could have said something, but instead, you chose to get more and more upset with me until you started this shit. You always do.”
The truth of it only made you angrier, with yourself for doing it and with him for pointing it out.
“I shouldn't have to say that I don't want to sleep with you in the bed you fucked your ex in,” you said venomously.
His expression changed to one of incredulity and disgust. “What the hell did you say it like that for?” he demanded. You were nearing the cabin, and part of you worried about your friends overhearing, but the stronger part of you just wanted to keep fighting.
“You never talk like that,” he said. “Why are you throwing that in my face and making it sound like — ”
“You did, didn't you?” you spat. Your self control was completely unraveled. “You fucked her in that bed, didn't you?”
“Yes!” he burst out. He stopped on the porch to look your straight in the face. “Yes, okay? I fucked her good and hard in that bed, and I intentionally picked that room so I could make you feel like shit. Is that what you want to hear?”
“If that’s the truth!” you shot back. You felt the sting of angry, hurt tears and hated it.
He rolled his eyes. “Whatever,” he said, fed up with you. “I hate talking to you when you're like this, sparrow. You drive me fucking crazy.”
“This is your fault, Jake,” you said. “I can't ever get through to you. Every time I try, you overreact.”
“Me?” he all but yelled. “You’re the one making a big fucking deal out of nothing, just because you can't be honest about how you feel! How is that my fault?”
He went inside before you had a chance to yell anything back at him. You came in right on his heels, so angry with him you could have screamed. Baby and the guys were playing a card game at the table, and their laughter and conversation died a quick death at your entrance.
You knew they must have heard you and Jake fighting on the porch, but you didn't have time to feel embarrassed as you followed Jake down to the your new room. He sat on the edge of the bed, drumming his hands against his knees, obviously agitated. His jaw worked as he looked up at you, and for some utterly incomprehensible reason, you found it maddeningly attractive.
“You sure you want to keep fighting?” he asked, all attitude now. “You know I used to fight with Izzy too. Wouldn’t want us doing anything I’ve already done with her.”
“God, you're so infuriating!” you said. “I just didn't want to get fucked in the same bed as her!”
He stood and closed the distance between you, slamming the door and bracketing you against it.
“What about this bed, huh?” His breath fanned hot over your skin, his eyes blazing. “How about you get fucked in this bed and shut the hell up about all this shit with Izzy? Is that good enough for you?”
Heat raced through you, feeding on your anger and the need for an outlet. It had been a long time since Jake had gotten you this worked up, and you were reminded of something he’d said that weekend at the wedding last winter — I'm the only one who could ever get you riled up like this, and you've always liked it. You hadn't admitted it then, and you damn sure weren't going to admit it now, but that didn't make it any less true.
“Fine.” You kissed him, hard, and he responded to you with furious passion. You lost yourselves in the heat, the want, the hunger — it was sweat and bruises and testing the limits, both of you, angry and rough and needful.
After, when you lay with your hair plastered to your face, trying to catch your breath, Jake opened the window above your bed and lit a joint. He handed it to you after a moment, blowing a thin stream of smoke in the vague direction of the window.
You took a long drag and watched the smoke drift up towards the ceiling. It was raining outside, cold and grey and lonely. When you touched a hand to your cheek, you felt tears.
Jake kissed you and exhaled smoke into your mouth. “Don’t cry, sparrow. Breaks my heart when you cry.”
You sigh was shaky. “Tell me you love me.”
“Sparrow.” He kissed gently all over your face. “I love you, my girl. Tell me you know that.”
You swallowed around the tightness in your throat. “I know.”
You lay in silence until the joint was spent, listening to the rain fall. You remembered something else from the wedding, some realization that you and Jake were so easily careless with each other, the promise you’d made not to treat each other that way any more. You felt dreamy and sad, wondering if you’d broken that promise, tears tracking down your face even after he’d told you not to cry.
“Jake.”
He brushed your hair back from your face. “I’m right here, sparrow.”
You pressed your face to his shoulder, breathing in the scent of him. You moved closer until you were all tangled up together, warm and safe and surrounded by each other in every way two people could be.
“I don’t know if I liked that,” you said, very softly.
He sighed. “I don't know if I liked it either. But we don't have to talk about it right now. Try to sleep, sparrow.”
You nodded, your breathing choppy and tired. “Okay, Jake.”
He held you, and in your new bed with the rain drumming gently on the windowsill, you listened to the steady beat of his heart and tried to think of some way to tell him how sorry you were.
Part 2 to that Welcome Home Incorrect Quotes post I made, like, a year ago. Wow how productive of me.
.
Poppy: Good morning.
Julie: Good morning.
Eddie: Good morning.
Barnaby: You all sound like robots, try spicing it up a bit.
Sally: MORNING MOTHERFUCKERS!
.
Barnaby, holding in their laughter: Hey, how do you ask a glass of water what it’s doing?
Frank: A glass of water is an inanimate object. Therefore, it's incapable of having a thought process or understanding basic human language.
Barnaby:
Barnaby: Water you doing?
.
Julie, peeling a banana: May I take your jacket, sir? Hahahaha.
Frank: Do you think other people can’t hear you?
.
Wally: Good. Thanks, dad.
Poppy: You just called Eddie “dad”. You just said “thanks, dad.”
Wally: What? No, I didn’t. I said “thanks, man”.
Eddie: Do you see me as a father figure, Wally?
Wally: No. If anything I see you as a bother figure ‘cause you’re always bothering me.
Howdy: Hey! Show your father some respect!
.
Howdy: *on the phone* Just snap his kneecaps and he’ll talk, I’m at a parent teacher conference.
Howdy: Anyways, you said Wally is enjoying finger painting! That's great.
.
Eddie: Shouldn't get stressed out, it's not good for the baby.
Wally: What baby?
Eddie, crying a bit: Me.
.
Wally: The shadow realm? No, I’m sending you to Ohio!
.
Howdy: Well, if you're not at least a little bit gay for your friends, then what kind of friend are you?
.
Frank, looking at a selfie of Wally's: I hate this photo.
Wally: I’m cute as fuck in that photo! I’m smiling kindly.
Frank: You’re not smiling kindly; you look like you’re up to something.
Wally: Up to kindness.
.
*at a zoo*
Julie: What are they in for?
Frank: Julie, this isn't prison.
Julie: So they can leave?
Frank: No, but-
Julie, pointing at a meerkat: I bet that one murdered someone.
.
Poppy: Fine! Judge all you want but...
Poppy, points at Sally: Married a lesbian.
Poppy, points at Julie: Left a man at the altar.
Poppy, points at Wally: Fell in love with a gay ice dancer.
Poppy, points at Barnaby: Threw a girl’s wooden leg in a fire.
Poppy, points at Howdy: Lives in a box!
.
Julie: Frank and I are so close we even share a toothbrush.
Frank: We what?
.
Wally: I never tell people off the bat that I'm gay. I wait. I wait until they say some homophobic shit and then I laugh and am like "you know I'm gay right?" and watch the look of terror on their face.
Barnaby:
Barnaby: I like you.
.
Eddie: I think I'm falling for you.
Frank: Then get up.
.
Julie: Why do you act like we’re three year olds?
Frank, exasperated: WHY?!?
Frank points at Barnaby: YOU TRIED TO HYJACK A CAR!
Frank points at Wally: YOU NEARLY JUMPED 20 FEET OFF A CARPARK!
Frank points at Julie: AND YOU ATE MULTIPLE DRIED LEAVES AND ROCKS OFF THE GROUND!
Frank: AND YOU ASK ME WHY????
.
Howdy: Just a minute. I need to go take out the trash.
Frank: Oh. We're going out?
Howdy: Wh…
.
Wally: *gets set on fire and screams in agony*
Wally: Nah, I’m just kidding. Fire does nothing to me.
.
Sally: I need 28 lightbulbs for 28 ducks.
Howdy: Ducks can’t eat lightbulbs?
Barnaby: I think that’s the point.
Sally: Exactly. I want my ducks to glow so I can find them.
.
Julie: Wasn't icarly that guy that girlbossed too close to the sun because he was down for Apollo?
Frank: ICARUS?
.
*at an awards show*
Poppy: Can I carry you on my back like Eddie did?
Wally: I don't think Barnaby would like that.
Poppy: *pouts*
*Later*
Poppy: *carrying Wally on their back*
Barnaby: What the hell??
Wally: What was I supposed to do? Say no?
.
Frank: I have very high standards, you know.
Eddie: I can make spaghetti...
Frank: Oh no! You're meeting all my standards!
.
Wally: I’ve been here in jail so long I think I’ve lost my mind.
Wally: The days turn into weeks, weeks turn into months.
Wally: How long have I been in here now? Almost a year?
Barnaby: This is Monopoly.
.
Wally: Could you guys at least try to see this from my perspective?
Barnaby: *crouches down*
Frank: *kneels down*
Poppy: *sits on the floor*
Wally:
Wally: I hate all of you.
.
*Sally is crying after a breakup*
Eddie: There there, Sally.
Sally, still crying: Thanks, but how did you get into my room?
Eddie: Great question—
.
Barnaby, knocking on the door: Howdy, open up!
Howdy: It all started when I was a kid.
Barnaby: That’s not what I-
Sally: Let them finish!
.
Julie, on a random band name generator: Oooo! They Might Be Depressed Horses! That about sums up my friend group.
.
Julie: War is heck!
.
Sally: What’s it like being tall?
Sally: Is it nice?
Sally: Can you reach comfortably for the cupboards?
Poppy: We live in constant fear of the short ones who, in my experience, will climb 4 chairs, 2 boxes, a small coffee table and 6 oddly placed stools to get what they want.
Wally: It was one time!
.
Howdy: Last night I found out Barnaby is a sleep talker.
Poppy: Oh, really?
Howdy: "The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell." Right. In. My. Ear. At 3am.
.
Wally: Wakey Wakey Eggs and Bakey!
Poppy: But I'm a vegan.
Wally: Wakey Wakey Vegetables and Sadness.
.
Howdy: Imagine if someone handed you a box full of all the things you lost throughout your life.
Sally: It would be nice to have my sense of purpose back...
Julie: Oh wow, my childhood innocence! Thank you for finding this.
Eddie: My will to live! I haven't seen this in years.
Barnaby: I knew I lost that potential somewhere.
Wally: Mental stability, my old friend!
Howdy: Jesus, could you guys lighten up a little?
.
Frank, looking over Wally’s shoulder: You can draw?
Wally, stopping what they were doing: You can speak?
.
Wally, near tears: Please, Neighbor, I don’t speak meme! I don't know what a 'yeet' is!
.
Julie: A party is a celebration of a life, bringing people together to let the guest of honor know how much they’re loved. Frank has done so much for us. This is our chance to do something for them.
Eddie: By forcing them to have fun at a party that they don’t want to be at?
Julie: I knew you’d understand.
.
Wally: Julie noticed only today that they can label their email inboxes, but they took apart their entire bloody laptop two weeks ago.
Sally: This reminds me of the Julie who couldn’t turn on the coffee maker, but remembers about 500 digits of pi.
Wally: I’ll be delighted to inform you that this is the very same Julie.
.
Julie: What do I get?
Sally: A night of fashion, mischief, mayhem, and possible death.
Julie: Ooh, check, check, and check; not sure about that last one.
Sally: It won't be you.
Julie: I'll get my coat.
.
Wally: My crush isn’t picking up on my hints.
Barnaby: What hints have you given them?
Wally: Well, I think about them a lot.
Wally: And sometimes I even think about talking to them.
.
Poppy: Don’t worry, I know exactly what I’m doing. Everything is going to be fine!
Julie: How can you still say that?
Poppy: Because sometimes, when things get tough, denial is all we have.
.
Julie: If you spell skeletons backwards, it still spells skeletons.
Barnaby, deadpan: Wow, I can't wait for Halloween to see some snoteleks.
.
Wally: I'm not a morning person. I'm barely even a person.
.
Julie, holding a scooter: Poppy! Can I go outside and play with this?
Poppy: Sure, whatever. I'm not your parent, okay?
Julie, running outside: Thanks Poppy!
Poppy, running out after them and screaming: NOT ON THE STREET! STAY AWAY!
.
Sally: ....Thou shalt not marry each other, for thy art both sinful...
Frank: I just wanna fucking marry Eddie!!
.
Eddie: My life is a little too much panic and not enough disco.
Julie: My life is a little too much fall and not enough boy.
Wally: My life is a little too much chemical and not enough romance.
Sally: My life is a little too much imagination and not nearly enough dragons.
.
Frank: Fuck capitalism. It's a rigged system that keeps us poor and it isn't fair. You shouldn't need to work three jobs to afford basic necessities.
Frank, playing Monopoly: Sorry, if you wanted to win you should have tried not being poor.
.
I did it :D
I love you systems who's trauma is 'unrealistic' and/or 'too extreme'. I love you systems who physically can't share their stories due to programming or any other physical barrier. I love you systems who don't want to use labels that could reflect this. I love you systems who went through/are going through RAMCOA. I love you systems who are cult survivors, who have been trafficked, or abused with drugs.
I love you. You are safe and welcomed here. Thank you for being strong.
What really pisses me off when people are like. No child should be friends with an adult; it’s (insert word/phrase that has been misused so much it’s kinda ceased to have meaning to me anymore) is… My older friends? Even though I’m 28 and yknow. An Adult. Have literally saved my life. Like not only do they have more knowledge about how things work (like Medicaid and food stamps and student loans and resumes and and and all the other shit nobody bothers to teach you and can be hella confusing/nearly inaccessible unless you Know but is hella important/can really fuck up your life if you’re not careful) and like…more experience so when they tell you “it’s gonna be hard, but you can handle it” or “I know it looks scary, but it’s not that bad and I promise you’ll get through it” or “it doesn’t matter if don’t graduate college, look at me. I didn’t. I’ve got a stable, well paying job. It’s not impossible to be comfortable without a college degree. And look at (other friend who is sitting right next to them), they worked their ass off for a double degree and currently not using it! You’ll be okay, you’ll figure it out.” your brain can actually believe them cuz yknow. They’ve been where you are. They have that life experience. And they’re not gonna lie to you because they love you and respect you too much to do that.
Like I don’t want to make it sound like friendship is a commodity, but older friends and intergenerational friendships can be so extremely valuable, especially to vulnerable younger people in abusive households. And I don’t even mean like in that they can offer you a place to crash cuz not every friend is gonna be able to do that and that’s OKAY. But maybe they can still help you in other ways. Even if it’s “just” holding your hand and validating your fears while you cry your eyes out but reassuring you that they believe in your ability to work through it. They believe in *you*. (And yes, I REALLY appreciate the same sentiment from friends my age and it’s also extremely helpful and I love them so very much. But it just sorta hits in a different way coming from an older friend. Not in a way that’s better or worse. Just different.)
Also something something seeing that you have a future when you can’t see past the next year or six months is just. So fucking reassuring.
Also. Older friends are just plain fun. I love my older friends and my life would be so much poorer without them. So yknow. Fuck people that condemn intergenerational friendships.
Also also something something something ‘fuck you for making me feel terrible/paranoid about wanting to offer my own experience to those younger than me. To help them in any way I can. As another fantastic and dearly beloved friend says. “If you start sounding like my mental illness, YOU are the problem and maybe need to re-evaluate some things.”’
#ignore me#im just all up in my feels about that time my friend twisted around from the passenger seat of the car to hold my hand and comfort me while#I was crying and terrified about the upcoming semester. that said it IS actually not good that you’re having panic attacks and chest pains#just thinking about going back. and was so kind and understanding and calm and she listened and held my hand. or the other friend who grew#up with little financial security. worked two jobs to pay her college tuition because her parents just didn’t have the means to help her.#and now she’s married to a surgeon and EXTREMELY financially secure and because of her own experience she is just soooo. im gonna pay for#your dinner because I can and it won’t affect me or stress me at all and I want you to save your money. and if you need money for some#reason just let me know and we’ll figure it out because I have the means to help in this way and I’m gonna do it dammit and if you need to#or the friend that sincerely told me to call her if I needed someone to talk to. even if it’s the ass crack of dawn or 3 in the morning.#or my friend (my Person) who when I asked if it was okay to tell my cousin her address while visiting her so my cousin could pick me for#dinner. said ‘of course you can. this is your home too’ (home as in your safe here and home as in you are loved here and home as in you will#always be welcome here.)#like…just. intergenerational friendships guys#they are literally lifesaving#don’t deny young people these friendships#but as someone who has also been the Older Friend#don’t make them feel bad for just loving and caring about another human being#that’s what we do. that’s what humanity is#i scream into the void#personal
saw a post (meant to be a community inside joke / light-hearted, so not to take as a resource at all, but that still got stuck in my mind) earlier which implied that thinking romantic love was friendship + sexual attraction was an alloaro experience and like..... i relate to that a lot but i personally don’t resonate with the split attraction model much (i feel like it’s not always clear enough to describe an experience and can become too vague by being hyperspecific, if this makes sense?) and i don’t recognize myself in the ‘allosexual aromantic’ descriptor specifically either. isn’t that feeling of also being best friends with your partner just a common experience? like i read a lot of queer people in general talking about this....
#the thing about me when i get a crush on someone is that i Want To Be Besties With Them because i find them so cool 😭#and additionally wouldn’t mind kissing them#but also. i can’t tell i am in love with someone or just adore them as a friend because i also just get kind of fixated on ppl when i become#friends with them?#*whether#and then i can start imagining scenarios when i fall in love with them or in which we end up dating....even though i do not actually love#them... like i’m ‘what if this happened’ even though i know i don’t feel attracted to this specific person at all#idk. it kind of feel like compulsory romantic daydreaming sometimes idk if anyone can relate#but also i’m clearly aware that i am NOT getting enough enrichment in my enclosure these days lol#however re: attraction: what made me think i might be alloaro even tho i don’t relate with the label is that time when one of my best#friends — whom i had a crush of sorts on — asked me what having feelings for her was like and. besides the usual friend hyperfixation i#couldn’t describe anything specific except. except. that i felt physically attracted to her 😭#-> my beef with the alloaro label is that it suggests that the friend hyperfixation and the attraction are completely separate things when#they still felt linked to me. even though i got hyperfixated on friends before and imagined romantic scenarios before without the addition#of the actual attraction. idk#i do feel like that sometimes people will describe their aspec labels in a way that feels like fancy homophobia but that’s another topic#(that requires nuance btw i do NOT think that aspec identities are inherently homophobic & exclusionists are not welcome here 🔫)#anyway!! if any of you guys relate to this.....feel free to leave asks....#i would love to exchange with other people about this :’)#entries
Ghost definitely has a motorcycle and a truck. He'll drive the truck when he knows it'll be a long day doing intel and paperwork. But especially on a Friday when the workload is light, he’ll come in on his bike knowing he’ll be able to enjoy the ride.
He started riding the bike more when you gave the comment-
Guys who ride motorcycles are ten times more attractive with their bike
You didn’t say it to him per se but rather to a friend of yours on base, and he overheard. He likes to think that the bike is his good luck charm, as you agreed to a first date when he drove it. But despite you loving the bike as much as you loved him, he never let you on it. Always exclaiming it would be too dangerous.
He's in the garage, music playing lightly from the speaker as he cleans and messes with some of the gears. You watch in awe at the door. Never in a million years did you think you would be here. In Lt’s old t-shirt, sipping tea and watching him indulge in normalcy on a Sunday afternoon. When you transferred to the base, you always heard rumors about the man behind the mask and the name Ghost. But behind that was this man full of love.
“Enjoying the show, darling?” He said, looking up from the bike to see you.
“Just admiring.” You said.
“The bike or the rider?” He said smirking.
You admired and mirrored that smirk. Something you thought you would never see in your lifetime. But after trials of trust, the mask and guards came down, bearing all the luggage, and past to your welcoming arms.
“Both,” you said, walking over to him. He was seated on a chair and leaned back to welcome you in between his legs.
He peered up, his eyes glimmering in the sunlight that peaked through the window.
“Let me ride.” You said, peering down.
“You can ride me anytime.” He said, being cheeky.
You groaned at his antics and pouted towards him.
“Do you not trust me on your precious baby, Si?”
He looked between you and the bike. It wasn’t that he didn't trust you. He knows how dangerous riding is. He doesn’t want to let you on just in case something happens. He’s come to terms with something happening to him a long time ago. But you. He just got you and would put you in a bubble if it meant keeping you safe.
“I trust you. I just don't trust others.” He says, moving a piece of hair from your face. He moves his hand to cup your jaw. He guided you to his lips for a quick peck.
You leave your forehead on him while he moves his hands down to your hips.
He can tell you were annoyed with your answers. You guys bonded over this bike and he truly believes that being able to ride it one day was the only thing keeping you around.
That was far from the truth. You just wanted to straddle something other than Simons's dick.
He stood up and moved you to the side.
He pushed the brake down and moved to the back of the bike.
"We can start with basics. Posture and positions." He said looking at you.
Stunned by his answer and quick change in answers, you didn't move till he said, "Ok, I guess you don't want to." You feet quickly moved to stand by him.
He went through the basics, teaching you how to mount and where to keep your feet. After, it was your turn to demonstrate your understanding. You go to the side and lift a leg to straddle the seat.
Simon from the back saw how you were a natural at this. Your ass is plump on the seat you lean to hold the handles with a slight arch in your back. Simon thought to himself why he hadn't let you do this earlier. He was so caught up in how good you look he didn't even hear you ask him if what you were doing was good.
You looked over to see him in a daze. He quickly grabbed his phone and took a photo of you on his bike, clad in his boxers and old t-shirt; every inch of you screamed that you were his. And he never loved anything more than this moment right now.
He walked to the front of the bike.
"Is this alright Si?" You asked him when you finally are met with his face.
He just smiled and leaned in to kiss you.
"My gorgeous girl on my bike," He said in between kisses.
You giggled and removed your hands from the handles to his neck and shoulder.
"Get off the bike and get inside right now." He said, pulling away. Laughing, you got off and felt a slight smack hit your ass. This was definitely not your last time on his bike.
Fools - T.N
Tumblr media
in which the only Hufflepuff friend in the group of slytherins develops a crush on Theodore Nott— something only fools do.
fem!hufflepuff reader, bff Pansy, use of euphemisms and teasing yn for being innocent but sfw, reader is very emotional, jealous theo, 2800 words
Tumblr media
"Y/n!!"
After a year, you'd think that people would get used to seeing the same Hufflepuff go over to the Slytherin table, but alas, half the Great Hall turned to watch you approach the table and take a seat next to Pansy.
She sticks her middle finger up behind your back, aiming it at all of the people who are still staring, and they quickly turn away. It was an unlikely friendship, but she was not going to let anyone make you feel bad about it.
"About time you get here," Draco huffs, "I've had to hear Pansy's 'girl talk' while you were sleeping."
You smile sheepishly at him, you had taken your sweet time this morning, hitting snooze a few times before listening to your favorite record and doing more singing than actually getting ready— resulting in you being extra late to breakfast.
"Sorry, Draco."
"Don't apologize yn, he doesn't deserve it."
You can hear the teasing lilt in Theo's voice from across the table, and Draco throws a handful of grapes at him.
"Whatever," Pansy turns her back to them, "did you hear, apparently the Hufflepuff chaser has a crush on you."
Your eyes flit between her face and your hands, and you wonder where she got her information from.
The boys around you seem to perk up at this, and Draco chides Pansy for deeming that piece of information unimportant compared to all her other, much more useless, girl talk this morning.
"Where on Earth did you hear that?" You cut in, not enjoying the way everyone is suddenly interested in your (nonexistent) love life.
"From a very trustworthy source," is all she'll give away, and you cringe.
"Can we change subjects, please?"
Theo narrows his eyes at you, as if he's searching your face for something.
"You don't care about it then? You're not jumping at the chance to ride his broom?"
The Slytherins around you snicker at his euphemism, but you go bright red.
"I- what! Why would you say- no!"
This only makes them laugh harder, but Pansy collects herself enough to place a reassuring hand on your arm.
"Don't worry, we all know our little puff would never."
You slap her hand away, upset at them treating you like a child.
"Well if you guys are only gonna tease me, I'm gonna go back to my own table."
"Y/n, we didn't mean-" Theo starts, but he's still got a smirk on his face, so you ignore him, leaving before he can try and stop you.
You take a seat at your own house table, and the Hufflepuffs around you immediately welcome you into their conversation.
You don't know why it bothered you so much. They were right, you weren't going to be "riding someone's broom" anytime soon, but hearing the way they talked about it— like you were just some silly, innocent baby— really bugged you.
If you were being honest with yourself, you also knew that deep down you've been repressing feelings for Theodore, because you knew enough stories about him to know it would never work. He was a heartthrob, and had no issue finding girls to entertain him at night— to him you were just a little girl. That conversation was just more proof. There's no way he'd be interested in you.
You unintentionally make eye contact with Zacharias Smith when you finally get out of your head, but you immediately look away, turning back to your friends just as Hannah asks about your Christmas plans.
You don't see your Slytherin friends again until Charms class, and Pansy immediately brings up what happened at breakfast.
"Hey, I'm sorry about that. I don't want you to feel bad, that's just how we are."
You give her a tight lipped smile, shrugging your shoulders. You've realized that most of the anger came from the realization that Theo probably saw you as a child, not actually their teasing.
"No biggie, it's forgiven."
She eyes you suspiciously but decides not to question it, instead starting to talk about her next party idea until she gets shushed when Professor Flitwick starts explaining directions.
You use the quiet moment to sneak a look at Theo, who's leaned back in his chair smirking at something Draco said next to him.
Pansy turns to you and you quickly shift your focus, but it appears she's already seen you. She gives you a raised eyebrow, and you play dumb, looking back at the teapot on your desk and trying to give it legs.
"What was that about back there?" Pansy asks as the two of you walk out together.
"I know it took me forever to get those stupid legs," you cringe, hoping to throw her off course.
"No I meant your staring."
You try not to look guilty, just shrugging your shoulders and explaining, "figured the boys might have figured it out faster. Should have known better."
She grins at that, muttering "you really should have." But something tells you she doesn't quite believe your story.
Your thoughts are only confirmed the next day when she invites you over to her dorm and then immediately suggests the two of you take veritaserum to play a game of truth or dare.
You let out a sigh.
"I'm not doing that Pans, just ask me whatever you want to know."
She grins, "you know me so well."
"Unfortunately," you tease, and she slaps your arm but asks her question anyway.
"Do you have a crush on Draco?"
Her face drops into confusion when you start laughing hysterically.
"That's what you thought? Merlin, you had me scared for no reason. No Pans, I absolutely do not have a crush on Draco."
She lets out a small sigh of relief, but you can tell she's a little peeved you laughed at her.
"Well what was I supposed to think? You got all grumpy yesterday when we were teasing you about your love life, and then the staring. It was either that or you're secretly in love with Nott, which, lets be for real."
She leaves it at that, but your cheeks flush pink. Be for real what? Be for real, he'd never want you? Be for real, what universe would the two of you work out? Be for real, he hates you?
The thoughts keep coming one after another, and suddenly your vision is blurred.
"Hey, woah, what's wrong?"
You cursed Pansy for being so observant.
"Nothing, I think my allergies are acting up." You say, but there's sadness in your voice, and there's an inch of snow outside, which isn't exactly pollen friendly.
"Don't lie to me y/n."
"I'm sorry for being so stupid and emotional." You cry, and Pansy rubs your back slowly.
"Hey, there's nothing wrong with being emotional! You don't see us do it much, but a lot of that's got to do with how we were raised. I wish I felt things as deeply as you do."
Your tears seem to slow, and she smiles.
"Now as for stupid, that depends on where that fit came from."
You look up at her in embarrassment, more hot tears threatening to fill your eyes.
"I... what did you mean?" You ask instead.
"Huh?"
"When you said be for real about me secretly being.." you couldn't bring yourself to say it, as if saying the words would make it true and something you could no longer push away and pretend wasn't there.
Realization dawns on Pansy's face, and she immediately wraps you up in a hug.
"Oh yn, it all makes sense now."
You continue to cry, and she looks at you with what you assume is pity in her eyes.
"I know, I'm such a fool! I know it would never happen, I know half of Hogwarts has a crush on him, I know he'd never want a girl like me." All of the things you'd been keeping to yourself and secretly thinking come spilling out of your mouth, and Pansy rubs your back while you continue to cry.
"Hey don't talk like that! Theo doesn't care about those people, and I know he cares about you. Not to mention, "a girl like you"? You're the exact type of girl that Theo needs. He practically never smiles the way he does when you're around. Just calm down okay?"
You nod through your cries, finally settling down as Pansy throws a magazine at you and the two of you lay across her bed.
Unknowingly, you end up falling asleep, tired from the amount of crying you did. Pansy notices but decides not to wake you, heading down to the common room where the guys would be getting back from quidditch practice soon.
When you wake up the room is dark, and a quick looks around reminds you you're in Pansy's room and not your own. You check the bathroom attached to the dorm, and when no one is in there you head down to the common room, assuming that's where she's gone to.
The whole group is sat on leather couches and armchairs when you make it down the stairs, and you rub the sleep out of your eyes as you approach the group.
"There's our assonnata bella," Theodore purrs, and you immediately flush even though you only understand half of his phrase. (sleeping beauty)
"Sorry for falling asleep." You apologize as you take the seat Pansy offered you, coincidentally landing between her and the reason for your crying.
"Stop apologizing so much," Theo whispers in your ear, and you refuse to look at him in fear of him seeing exactly the effect he has on you. Instead you continue to look at Pansy.
"No biggie, you needed it after that." She says, and you nod.
"After what? What happened?" Draco asked, ever the nosy weasel.
Pansy looked at you, obviously waiting for you to answer so she could go along with whatever you say.
You consider lying, but figure there's no point. They all know you're an emotional person, no one would find it unusual.
"I- uh- cried a little bit. Tired me out."
The boys (that you can see) all nod their heads in understanding and decide to switch topics, finally letting you relax.
However, since you'd turned your back to Theo, that now meant when you leaned back to get comfy you leaned directly into his chest, as he had one arm on the back of the couch behind you.
"Oh I'm so sorry!" You whisper, shooting back up and speaking only to him in an attempt to not draw attention from the others.
"Don't be silly," he says back, pulling your shoulders so you're back in the relaxed position against him, "you're welcome in my arms any day ragazza dolce." (Sweet girl)
You flush red again, but this time you do look up at him, a teasing glint in your eyes.
"You know I have absolutely no idea what you're saying, right?"
He grins, "that's part of the fun."
"Whatever," you turn back away from him to look at the group, your head resting right over his heart, "as long as you're not calling me a troll."
"I promise I'm not." He says, ruffling your hair before the both of you rejoin the main conversation.
"Zacharias Smith was at our practice today," Draco tells Pansy, and she looks at him in surprise.
"Really? Maybe he was looking for yn. She does sometimes keep me company in the stands."
"Oh he definitely was." Blaise smirks, and you feel Theo tense behind you. "Walked right up to Theo and asked where the pretty little one we're always hanging out with was."
"What?" Pansy shrieks, looking over, although you're unsure if the intentional target was you or the boy behind you. Her eyes momentarily widen at seeing your position before she notices something and smirks.
"Theo," she drawls, "I didn't notice those cuts on your knuckles earlier, is that new?"
Everyone turns to look at Theo, and you sit up in alarm, turning to look at his hand that's laying behind your spot on the couch.
"Theo! What happened? Why didn't you go get this checked out?"
He averts his eyes from your gaze. "Just wasn't thinking about it," he shrugs.
You frown. "How could you not be thinking about it, that looks painful!"
He shrugs again, grimacing when you grab his hand, insisting he let you heal it.
"Just let me go get my wand okay? I left it in Pansy's room."
You get up to leave, and with your back turned you don't see Pansy whisper to Theo and then him get up and follow you.
"I'll just come with." He announces, following you back to your friends room.
You try not to think about the intimacy of being alone with Theo while you tend to his wounds, trying once again to shove all your feelings down far in your heart.
Thankfully none of Pansy's roommates had come back, and Theo sits on her bed while you grab your wand from her nightstand before standing in between his spread legs.
"Give me your hand."
He complies, and you try not to blush at the warmth of his, much bigger, hand resting on your own.
"This is nasty Theo, did you punch a wall or something?" You ask, beginning to heal a few of the cuts. Luckily most of them were clean from where he'd washed them when he showered after practice, but they were scabbed over and his knuckles were blue with beginning to form bruises.
He lets out an amused huff of laughter and you stop your ministrations, looking up at him immediately.
"Tell me you didn't actually punch a wall."
He shrugs, "it was either that or Smith, and I know you don't like when I get into fights."
You feel yourself heat up. He didn't hit someone because of your preference, and the person just happened to be the guy who supposedly has a crush on you.
"Well I'm glad you didn't send my housemate to the hospital wing at least, although I wish you wouldn't have hurt yourself," you sigh, continuing to heal his hands.
Out of nowhere he pulls it away.
"Theo?"
"Look, I-" he cards a hand through his hair, contemplating his next words. "I didn't like it that Smith came looking for you. Especially that he asked me."
You look at him in confusion, "what? Why?"
He looks distraught, but he can't help the crooked smile that etches itself on his face.
"You're damn oblivious, you know that?"
You continue to look at him, no thoughts behind your eyes.
"Uh, I mean I guess? I've been told that a few times, though I'm not sure how it's pertinent to this situation."
Suddenly Theo's hands are on your cheeks, and his face is inches from your own.
"What- what are you doing?"
"I want to kiss you." He states plainly, as if it's the most normal thing in the world— as if the five words didn't have you spiraling out of control.
"Wait- do you want to kiss me because you think I'm like pretty or do you want to kiss me because you like me?"
You'd never even thought he would consider you pretty, but at his words you had to rethink a lot of things you thought you knew.
"I like you, amorina." (Little love)
"Really?" You know you should be celebrating, but you can't help the doubt that creeps into your mind. "You don't think I'm a silly, innocent, little Hufflepuff?"
He grins, "you can be my silly little Hufflepuff. And no I don't care that you're not jumping at the opportunity to go broom hopping."
You can't help but laugh a his phrasing, but you're glad he knew what you meant.
"I like you, amorina, I don't care about anything else, as long as I get you."
You smile, and Theo swears he could die happy if it's the last thing he sees.
"Well in that case, I want you to kiss me too."
He can barely hold back his own smile as he places his lips on yours, cradling your jaw with one hand while the other holds your hip.
He kissed you gently, not at all like what you'd expected, but you feel his adoration flowing out of it, and you can't help but break it to let out a giggle.
"And to think I was crying over you a few hours ago."
He grins, standing up and grabbing your hand to walk back down to the common room together, where your friends were waiting for you to go to dinner.
"No more crying over me okay?"
You nod your head, and he pulls you in for one more kiss before you rejoin the rest of your friends.
