I think New Adult is a completely unnecessary literary genre and I've been watching people on social media essentially try to "make fetch happen" with this age range for almost a decade now and it hasn't made any more sense as time has gone on. Frankly, if you're writing a character who is is 20+ years old, they should be in Adult. I don't think we need to create any more additional sub-categories for age ranges than what already exists: Children's, Middle Grade, YA, and Adult is perfectly fine. The age range NA represents is just 23-year-old teenagers. It's just YA with sex. Grow up and read adult books

hi, i'm not the person who asked you about the life update, but could you elaborate on how being a creator means to live in a world of ideas instead of the real world? i'm just really curious about your reasons for quitting, specially because i want to create things in the future (not necessarily streaming, but anyways), hope you have a good day!
i'll be talking mostly about streaming for the sake of this answer, but this is similarly applicable across a wide range of platforms:
the job of the streamer is, effectively, to be the life of the party every single day. your goal is to be the person that has something interesting to talk about, and is quick with a joke, and has nuanced understandings of certain things, without actually obtaining any sort of "expertise" in anything lest you alienate viewers. short of having a stated goal for a stream, the only goal of the streamer is to let people relax with a voice they enjoy, saying things they like hearing. you can become very strong in different aspects of streaming, like in the production, or as someone who focuses more on a skill they've honed like art or speedrunning, but the demographic of streamers which pulls, by far, the most significant viewership, is personality based streamers.
this becomes more complicated when, for example, you are very interactive with chat, or you stream with multiple people at once. now, to maintain this charismatic sway you have (the one that got you the job in the first place), you must be able to adapt to and bounce off of other people, as you are now no longer performing alone. naturally, there's a need to not only manage your own flow of consciousness, but also to be at least partially in sync with someone else's.
beyond these complications, you must also consider drawing in new viewership. when i was a streamer, i was quite successful, relatively speaking. pulling 300 viewers consistently is something a very slim amount of streamers can actually do, and even then i was still making under 50k a year, which is not bad, but also not good. in paying for my apartment, my insurance, my travel fare, and all the other stuff that living independently draws money out of you with, i was more often in the red than i was in the green. hence, the need to draw in new viewers, which cannot be done without something eye-catching.
think about this: there are, at any given time, TENS OF THOUSANDS of streamers live in your native language on twitch, and they are all FREE TO WATCH. the attention market is sparse because the streamer market is oversaturated. and considering all of THEM want new viewers too, everyone is constantly refining and improving their craft, which requires everyone to move creatively in tandem with each other lest they get left behind.
if you are a streamer making ass-dollars and ass-cents, it becomes easy to begin resenting people like jerma, solely because everything he touches seems to turn to gold. i personally found it easy to feel very disappointed in myself when peoples projects that seemed so simple would take off. it was a constant "why didn't i think of that!" situation, at least for me. and when you don't have the energy to keep that up, or the social stamina necessary to figure that all out while also being upbeat and happy in front of people near daily, it can become very draining.
what i mean specifically when i say the "world of ideas", is like. there would be times where i could schedule out my failures weeks in advance. i'd be so in my own head about the process, i could see the exact path i could see myself taking that would lead me directly to ruin. how playing games i actually enjoyed would steadily drop viewership, or how focusing on my studies would make people forget about me. and of course this is augmented by my anxiety, i know this is absolutely not the case for every streamer, but that overwhelming feeling of needing to find a new game to play, or a new gimmick to use, or a new ploy to get money that doesn't make you feel guilty even though your source of income is mostly queer and mostly poor young adults and your rent is coming up and you're $200 short but you also just had a fundraiser last month about a DIFFERENT emergency but you cant make it a bummer or else people wont want to tune in so you have to make it something fun like "you laugh you lose!" or "$1 art request streams!" while feeling nothing but anxiety while youre trying to sound like youre enjoying yourself even when youre asking 250 people to donate every 30 minutes or so and nobody seems to want to and chat is moving slowly and. and and.
well, it starts to eat away at you.

Lisa, Kujou Sara and Ningguang caring for a sick S/O
A/N: Just some short and silly headcanons since I'm a little ill. The characters were picked by The Wheel. Don't ask why ALF is on the cover.
Tumblr media
Lisa
"Don't worry, sweetie. Mommy Lisa will take very good care of you~"
Enough said, Lisa is an expert at potion crafting. As soon as she notices you're sick, you'll have one of her most effective tinctures delivered to you in no time. It's bitter, but it will help - you'll be frolicking again in just a few days. If it helps, she'll be more than happy to spoon feed it to you!
Nothing helps the body quite like a rich broth. Add some chicken, boil with carrots and top it off with some fresh marjoram straight from the windowsill, and viola - just like that you have yourself a tasty revitalizing soup. Lisa doesn't like eating meat, but she knows how important proteins are for recovery.
Tending to you is a great opportunity to pamper the absolute life out of you. Tissues and medicine? Right on the spot. Feeling peckish? Here, let her feed you. Thirsty? The best tea will be brought directly to you. Sleepy? Lisa will tuck you in, or let you rest your head on her thighs if you want to. You will have everything you need and even more without having to move an inch.
Lying in bed is important - it lets your body sleep and regain strength. Still, boredom strikes sometimes. Lisa will provide you with a few books from her personal collection. If you're too tired to read yourself, she will do it out loud. Her narration skills are really something special, and will keep you entertained for hours on end, or until you doze off in her caring arms.
Kujou Sara
“The medic will be here shortly. Do you need tea or a cold compress?”
Although Sara isn’t well-known for her caring nature, she really does worry about you. Inazuma’s climate tends to be quite harsh, with all the frigid sea winds blowing through the islands day by day. Even a minor ailment can quickly turn into a long-term illness in these conditions, so she will convince you to stay home when the first symptoms appear.
If you work in the military, your leave will be signed by her without further issues. If you’re working in the civilian market, however, she won’t restrain from using her position to ensure your leave is approved by your boss. Because who in their right mind would argue with the Tengu General herself?
It has been some time since the conclusion of the Inazuman civil war, so most work regarding that period is far behind her. Sara’s general duties revolve mainly around paperwork - reading through inventory reports, approving funding requests and purchases as well as some officer training meetings every now and then. Thanks to that fact, she can work from home and keep an eye on you.
Sara isn’t the best of cooks, so most meals will be handled by your maids. This doesn’t mean she won’t contribute to your recovery. She will check up on you frequently, whether to see if you’re taking your medicine correctly, or just to keep you company.
Of course she will call a physician to examine you, and buy all the necessary medicine - she has an immense pile of money saved up due to her fairly modest lifestyle.
One thing though - she’s sleeping on the couch. Sara can’t afford to get ill herself, even if it means forcing you to recover in a cold bed. Don’t you worry, she will give you more than enough affection to make up for that shortage once you’re back in full health.
Ningguang
“Don’t worry, my dear. You will get better soon. Meanwhile, why don’t you try another cup of tea? I am sure it will help.”
Ningguang is a busy woman who has no time for sickness. But you? She’ll make sure you get the proper rest, else your weakened body will fall to another illness. There will be no work for you until you are fully recovered - just like Sara, Ningguang will not hesitate to pull a few strings to make sure you can rest without worry.
Baizhu will deliver only his best products, as money is hardly a concern for Ningguang. Every Mora used to help you get better is a Mora well-spent in her eyes.
Although not a doctor by any means, Ningguang will use some homemade remedies as well - especially white tea with two spoonfuls of honey. The warm sugary drink will surely bring back your strength in no time… or at least lift your spirits.
She will check up on you from time to time, yes, but will not take a day off. Liyue needs her, and there’s always money to be made.
Ningguang will make sure to keep her distance - even if it is just a cold, it could affect her as well and make her work that much more annoying. That means no cuddles until you’re healthy - but, with the best medicine money can buy, you’ll be in her arms in no time.

A Brief Critique of the PSL's Program
As Marxists, our most important tool for keeping a true revolutionary analysis is critique and self critique. I am not doing this to dunk on the PSL, but thinking of my usamerican comrades who might be starting out with Marxist analysis. This is not an exhaustive analysis of the program. (they could really do with organizing their chapters into paragraphs instead of one single line of text)
Note: This only deals with part 1 of 2 of their program, The Struggle for Socialism, which consists of their analysis of capitalism in the USA
Because of their economies of scale, marketing muscle and deep financial pockets, huge monopolies have increasingly squeezed out independent small- and medium-sized businesses and farming operations. This has largely eliminated the “free market.”
It seems that petty-bourgeois ideology and mythology is ever present in Marxist circles, unfortunately. They are describing a real process, yes, the proletarainization of the petty-bourgeoisie is a consequence of the tendency towards monopolization which characterizes this stage of capitalism (which the PSL points out, of course), and it is the threat that can make the petty-bourgeoisie so reactionary and even fascistic. While technically correct, it seems strange to point out the negative effect monopoly capitalism on the petty-bourgeoisie in a proletarian program as if it was a concern of our class. This worship of "small independent businesses" is pervasive everywhere in the imperial core, not just the USA
The bank bailouts showed that while the government rules over the people, the banks rule over the government
Not exactly, it is clearer and more impactful to put it that way, but it is more accurate to say the government (and state, I'll talk about this program's confusion between the two later) acts in the interest of the capitalist class, not necessarily because of an explicit "ruling over". The government legislates in favor of the bourgeoisie because that's just who's interests they represent. There doesn't need to be a nefarious puppet master behind congress
The idea that any contemporary economic system can survive without major government intervention has been shown to be a total fallacy. The remaining question is not whether government intervention is necessary, but which class will benefit — the vast majority of society, the working class, or a tiny minority, the superrich?
So many things to talk about, the PSL is putting the cart before the horse here. They are describing how it is necessary for the vanguard party to take control of the state (not the government!) to oppress the capitalist class internally and to make sure that the imposition of socialism and the transition to communism are safeguarded, as well as to ensure the efficient distribution of resources. This is not government intervention in the economy, this is a state-ran economy. They are failing to operate outside the capitalist frame of debate when talking about their plans post-revolution.
This is a personal nitpick but I really dislike the use of terms like "superrich" when you mean capitalist or bourgeois. Say what you mean, stop trying to appeal to petty-bourgeois mythos
The struggle to adapt to and mitigate the impacts of global warming is therefore a class struggle. It is a struggle for power — not a struggle over morality or individual consumer choices.
It's like a breath of fresh air for a usamerican organization to recognize the impotence of individual consumption. No notes
Simply reforming the capitalist system is not enough. For the capitalists, reforms are a threat to the status quo. Reforms for the working class mean something different. They ease the burdens of living under capitalism through the extension of civil rights or other beneficial social or economic policies. While reforms must be fought for, and can be won, they are under constant attack by the ruling class. Capitalism itself cannot be reformed.
It's good that they point out the inherent temporary character of reforms within capitalism. My issue with this quote is stating that [all] reforms are threats to the status quo. This is a half truth. Reforms within capitalism, especially those made through a social-democratic ideology, are not necessarily threats to the status quo, but rather reinforce it by calming the economic-spontaneous consciousness of workers. This type of class consciousness is acquired merely through the worker's experience with capitalist exploitation. It does not necessarily lead to revolutionary convictions, is therefore less robust, and can be calmed or satiated by reforms. I didn't expect a usamerican communist party to achieve this level of nuance given the absolute lack of social-democratic reforms they get.
Political-revolutionary consciousness, however, is achieved through active, deliberate and continuous education of the worker in the unavoidability of class struggle. This type of consciousness is much more robust and cannot be quelled by reforms.
Overall, this is a fine program in need of a deeper analysis which can only come through experience. They should label themselves as Marxist-leninists, not because of any personal fantasies, but because it is clear that their beliefs are fundamentally leninist, although I understand the trouble this could cause them within the legality of the USA.
My biggest gripe, however, is the complete absence of even a mention to democratic-centralism. It appears that's what their internal structure is (I've seen their Central Comitee mentioned sometimes), but it is a glaring flaw for a revolutionary and proletarian program to obviate the only tried and tested successful revolutionary Party structure.

One of the biggest problems with both the Law of Assumption and the Law of Attraction is that they're both designed to be unfalsifiable, meaning, it's meant to be impossible to disprove them no matter what results you get. No matter what you do, no matter how hard you try to manifest, failing to accomplish your goals can't be considered a failure of the concept; instead, it's automatically considered a failure on your part to roleplay a better life hard enough.
This is a pretty popular tactic with scammers who want to exploit people. For example, multilevel marketing companies work to instill in their "salespeople" (victims) that if they aren't somehow making money with the company, it's because they are doing something wrong. Can't find anyone to sell to? You must not be harassing- I mean looking hard enough. No one is interested in your measly selection of products? You just need to buy more to show them what the company has to offer! And if all else fails, you need to look into growing your downline by any means necessary - which includes posting videos to your social media telling everyone how incredibly successful you've been since you started selling for the company.
You can also see this in some Christian circles, and let me tell you it's no less of a red flag there. Pastors might tell you some variant of the following:
G*d always answers prayers, it's just that sometimes the answer is "no".
If you didn't get what you were praying for, it's because you didn't have enough faith.
In order to really prosper as a Christian - by which we mean get wealthy - then you have to show your loyalty to G*d - by which we mean give us all the money you can afford.
As you might notice, each of these claims offers a result that the person making them has no actual power to provide to you. Your pastor can't answer prayers on G*d's behalf or convince your boss to give you a raise, leaving it up to the whims of causality as usual. Instead, they insist that a negative result is simply a normal part of the process, that either you can expect to be snubbed part of the time, or that if you don't get the results you want it's your own fault.
Of course, this doesn't actually prove that the claim is true. In fact, when you design an idea to be difficult to falsify, you're actually making it harder to prove - because "the system works" and "the system doesn't work" end up looking exactly the same. That's why these systems rely so hard not on teaching you concrete methods that you can test for yourself, but on making sure you believe that what you are doing will work, and conditioning you to reject out of hand any evidence that suggests otherwise.
This tactic does not help anyone. Instead, it serves to trap people in an endless cycle of victimhood, assuring that they continue to point the blame at themselves instead of asking themselves if the rule they were taught is as good as they were told it is. It also teaches them to contribute to others' victimization, by constantly repeating this message to other members of the community, effectively creating an echo chamber of victim-blaming and guilt.

Oh no That's not what I meant. We should feel bad. Because she let us see ourselfs in a story that wasn't meant for us and she just used us. I meant that she only used knowledge shared and discovered by poc to give "depth" to her characters and used us for marketing. But we were never part of the main story. For me it is just as bad. We are just a token that she can use as she sees fit but she will never talk about us. For that reason I remind myself constantly that Suzanne was never on my side. Her story was for her people because in her words, she wants them to "evolve from choosing war as an option." But for us, we are not even allowed to see it as an "option." War is something that others send to our doorstep and we have no say in it.
This is perfectly worded oh my goodness, and I totally agree.
I think in my analysis in the beginning, I saw the similarities of the story and it might have been niave of me to assume that she sympathized and assumed that oppressed people were in the right. But these past few asks and the interview with her really changed my perspective on the story.
I agree, she definitely is using the concept of "war" to imply some moral standing without recognizing exactly how that impacts the people directly affected. I had felt it throughout the story as well but I was willing to excuse it and I'm starting to think that was wrong of me.
Like with the Vietnam War veteran story, she talked about how "worried" she was for her dad... but she didn't mention at all how her dad was pretty relatively safe and dropping bombs on a country halfway across the world. The Vietnamese had no right to resist in her opinion, or at least thats the way it sounded.... and the real sadness, to her, is that she worried for her father when she was six and not that her father participated in a killing campagin. Honestly, it feels like an echo of Israeli logic. What about the people the bombs were dropped on? What about the people in the Iraq war who suffered for no other reason than for oil? What about the people who suffer under oppression?
She used the idea of revolution of an everyday person, who everyone thought was indigenous coded, so that she could paint this story of "war is bad" and that the continued oppression is bad also but you know, it's never ok to start war. I had seen another interview with her about how she mentioned she wrote the books to examine what is necessary to "wage war" and that the people of the districts "had a reason" but the ending doesn't feel like that all the way.
I don't know if you read it but "Against the Loveless World" by Susan Abualhawa, who is Palestinian, also deals with revolution and resisting. Honestly, like, it's one of my favorite books ever even more than Hunger Games (which is going lower and lower by the minute lol) and in that, the book ends with a sense of love that was missing from the Hunger Games ending, which feels a little more moral in its judgement.
You're right, it was intentional the way she used liberation movements to enact a sort of echo in modern history without actually examining who conducts these liberation movements and why. She illustrates Mockingjay as a purely class struggle and neglects to mention how "whiteness" as a concept plays a part in perpetuating that class struggle.
Also the fact that District 11 explicitly has Black people working the fields (which that's a whole problem in itself, that a white woman wrote that in and that she doesnt think they are capable of revolting and owning their own future) means there is ethnicity but she doesn't want to examine the concept of "whiteness" in her book because she doesn't think it plays a part in waging war. Which truly makes it seem senseless like she claims. To me, War is senseless but because there was no reason to oppress to begin with. The war itself is not senseless — there is a purpose, but the events preceeding the war didn't have any other reason than selfishness and greed. That in itself is the really tragic part of war. It's like "I had to lose everything for you to see me as a human and why is that? Why couldnt you respect me before all this?" Collins removes the agency and even existence from the people being oppressed by painting a "war is bad" narrative and not "oppression is bad" one, like you say.
Honestly, I had assumed she wrote in the perspective of Katniss because she wanted to really make it personal in illustrating how indigenous populations suffer greatly under oppression but now with your message of that quote, I think it was solely for selfish reasons where she didn't want to examine the impact it has on people in the modern day.
"War" is not some abstract concept. It is a result of various factors of circumstances. War is terrible not necessarily solely for the war itself, which might be bloody and terrible, but more specifically for the reasons that those wars were waged.
In the Iraq war, it was waged on Iraq for no reason other than the US's greed and the Iraqis paid dearly with their lives. It ruined people even if they didn't die. And what's most tragic is that they are expected to live with the consequences of the US' decision and to move on. The Vietnam War for similar reasons, though not for oil.
The fault should be with the oppressors — not the people whose humanity isnt recognized.
I want to apologize, though, if I hurt anyone with my messages in the beginning, making it seem like I think that you are equal to your oppressors for resisting both in the America's and throughout the world. It was a pretty shallow analysis and I didn't examine the way the biases might hurt actual people.

Aziraphale is Lucifer, Sauntering Back Upward
There's an amazing meta post about Crowley being Lucifer, and it got me thinking about the nature of their own rebellions. I love the idea that Crowley is Lucifer, and I totally think it fits, but he's a a version of the Adversary seen through a very Jewish lens, possibly even placed there deliberately by God herself as a sleeper agent. (I'm not placing Good Omens God as the good guy here; the whole point of the show is that neither side is good or bad, they're just sides to be on.)
In Judaism, Ha-Satan is an Adversary in a way that translates to "The Opposing Advocate" or "The Prosecuting Attorney" (Hebrew is Really Old and only has so many words to convey concepts), and his actual job, as appointed by G-d, is Asking Questions. He's appointed to do that. He's one of the mazikim, an angel who does G-d's dirty work of testing, tempting, judging, and destroying (I know Neil knows what this is, he named a character that!). And why was Crowley placed as the Tempter of Man? Well, he's really good at asking questions. He was turned into a demon because he had a lot of questions.
The assumption is that this is a punishment.
Job also thought he was being punished, but he wasn't. He was being used as a test because he was such a great example. Crucially, the Jewish interpretation of this story is not about trusting G-d and being rewarded or whatever, it's "Being very good doesn't mean that you'll be rewarded on Earth, it means that you'll probably have an even harder time here because G-d is using you to prove something." The double livestock and children are not meant to be a reward, they are due compensation for damages. (The Mishnah says equal cost, but I think Pain and Suffering counts for an awful lot in this case, so it's only right that he gets twice the livestock.)
Whereas Aziraphale, actually? Is not only a Christian angel, but a Christian Lucifer who is sauntering very slowly downward. A Lucifer whose job is not to ask questions, but who actually tests the angels themselves and leads them to rebellion.
(Additionally, I think it's really funny that Aziraphale and Crowley are having the exact same argument as G-d and Satan in the Book of Job, which is that it's very easy to do the right thing if you're rich but hard if you're poor, but they pick a very poor person instead of a rich one and end up taking everything away from her, and she's tempted to suicide. Great job, Aziraphale. Proves my point.)
Let's look Before the Beginning.
The first line in Genesis is about G-d creating the heavens and the Earth. So this is obviously even before "Let there be light," Market Version. The Miltonian War in Heaven takes place before that, so obviously this is before the Earth even happens. So what's Crowley doing, speaking the Divine Command when the Earth isn't around yet?
Well, without God looking over his shoulder, he's setting the stage for things like matter and energy to even be able to exist before the Earth even has the conditions to form. He's disbursing the Divine Light that's contained in the now-shattered vessels of the Sfirot.
Rav Wikipedia sums it up thusly: 'Because the sephirot are pure and unrelated to each other at this stage, each attribute alone is unable to contain the enormity of the Divine light as it descends into them, and the "vessels" (Keilim) of the sephirot undergo a "shattering" (Shevirah), creating the World of "Chaos" (tohu). Their Divine light is released and reascends, while the broken vessel fragments descend, still animated by "sparks" (Nitzotz) of light."
So, Crowley summons that Divine Light, it Big Bangs out and shatters existence into being, and Divine Light shoots out all over the place. Now, in medieval Kabbalah, this separation was considered to be a result of humans sinning, but in Lurianic Kabbalah, which is a reaction to the very beginnings of the Spanish Inquisition (the thing that got Crowley so upset with humanity), it's a necessary part of Creation. Divine Sparks being trapped inside the shards of the vessels it was stored in and forgetting what they were is necessary for consciousness that's not just a part of G-d to exist.
That's Crowley's job. It's necessary. We used to believe this was a mistake, but turns out it's not! This cosmic separation is actually really important, otherwise the Divine Sparks cannot forget their origin and experience individual consciousness and thus free will.
"In the Lurianic scheme, Creation is initiated by a primordial radical Divine "self-withdrawal" (Tzimtzum), forming a figurative "empty space/vacuum" (Khalal) in which only an "imprint" (Reshimu) remains of the withdrawn Ein Sof."
Compare this to Crowley and Gabriel's discussion of their lack of memory feeling like a house where furniture used to be. But also, consider how out of touch Crowley is with the whole Divine Bureaucracy at this point. He's clearly been left alone to do his own thing and hasn't heard what's going on in the scheme of things.
So what's Aziraphale doing there? He's just blithely winging his way across empty space, a little spark of light, when Crowley calls out to him. He doesn't appear to be doing anything more urgent or important. He comes over, asks what's up, and Crowley gives him a task -- holding the blueprint while he activates it into existence by turning a crank. Crucially, Crowley needs somebody to help him bring existence, as imperfect and chaotic as it is, into a place where it can even start to think about being. Trapping the Divine Spark in matter.
This is real fuckin sexual. It suggests Hesiod's placement of Eros as an act of attractive, sexual love as the beginning of existence, but also it's a pretty obvious sexual pun.
(The Gnostics would identify Crowley as the Demiurge for this, but we're not talking about them. I don't think Neil is trying to do anything with Gnostic mythos here; it would be a lot more obvious if he was.)
What is Aziraphale's response to this? He's disappointed that Crowley is praising Creation instead of praising his own personal beauty. It's only a second, but wow, how petty can you be? Someone has just unleashed the full beauty of the first moments of existence before you and you're like, "Wait, I'm pretty, too!" I mean, you did just metaphorically cum existence into being and I guess you're stuck in the wet spot, you could use some aftercare.
That sounds a lot like Milton's Satan. He's the prettiest boy in Heaven, and his whole thing is that he's not impressed by humanity and they should be worshipping him instead of him having to serve them. Aziraphale is a little jelly of Creation from the very start. So jelly, in fact, that he starts talking shit about it. Oh, this? Yeah, it's not that important. It's just a backdrop for humanity. Yeah, some little apes on an unregarded little blue-green planet far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the galaxy. That's what this is all about. Yeah, uh-huh, sucks to be you. Well, I wouldn't do anything stupid like raising a fuss about it. Oh, you're gonna? Ooh, don't, it's pretty dangerous. Little old angel like me could never. I don't even know what gravity is.
And yeah, maybe he was sent there to give Crowley the news in the first place, but still.
(@mischief-and-tea-by-the-sea , who suggested I tag @neil-gaiman , also points out that many interpretations suggest that Milton portrays the Fall as a Felix culpa or necessary fault, a planned thing like the shattering of the Divine Vessels in Lurianic Kabbalah -- both are necessary for independent consciousness to exist.)
God could have totally sent him to check up on Crowley, not just inform him of the new developments in the plan. Oh yeah, that one nerdy angel who got all geeked about nebulae. He's gonna flip his shit when he realizes this isn't going to run long enough for any new stars to form. Let's send my insecure little gay gossip over to see how he takes it. Ooh, he came right the fuck up to my office with a serious attitude. I mean, I don't wanna deal with that on a daily basis, but he's making some good points. I need to put him where I can use that attitude and also not have to deal with that attitude...
Not only that, but Aziraphale gives fire and the first weapon of war to Adam. These are traits identified with Prometheus and with Azazel, another name for Satan, in two different traditions.
One common interpretation of Milton is that his sympathetic Satan shares traits with Prometheus, acting as a bringer of enlightenment and a heroic figure to humanity, risking his angelic status for actions that will ultimately free humanity from the yoke of the gods. Prometheus risked the wrath of Zeus to give fire to the humans and was punished endlessly for it, and is prophesied to someday rise and do battle with the forces of Order at the end of time. Prometheus is also associated with the human brain and toolmaking (because of the fire), as well as being ultimately responsible for Pandora, the First Woman, who likewise doomed humanity because of her curiosity and disobedience of the gods.
According to the Book of Enoch, the angel Azazel, another name for Lucifer or Satan (I think by now it's pretty clear that Satan is just gonna be whichever angel is being an Adversary at the time, but w/e) was the leader of the Grigori, the angels who lusted after humans so much they decided to fuck them. Azazel personally taught them smithing and how to make weapons of war (and makeup; Aziraphale does love disguises and sleight of hand). Very Promethean. Aziraphale didn't Fall then, true, but he's also Human Gay. Possibly because his first individual experience was being attracted to (and, uh, Used for Cranking It until Creation exploded into being by) Crowley. Regardless of how much agency he had in his Gayness, he probably brought humanity the gift of Gay Sex and thus avoided having any Nefil babies that had to be drowned like half-tabby Siamese kittens in the Sandman, so he didn't Fall then either, but gee it was a narrow miss. He must have been worried about what else God could do to angels, which is why he was so terrified about his child-saving lie with Job.
(Of note is that literally the only remotely Biblical book that refers to an archangel rebelling directly against G-d for the Throne of Heaven is the Book of Enoch. Yep! Just there! It's not a Jewish belief at all, along with the idea of Original Sin or the snake being Satan--that is your Animal Urge, and it's necessary to live but you should not let it control your behavior, in Jewish thought.)
And the thing is that he does Fall a little after lying to God. She never speaks to him again, so he's left in constant doubt and has to be forced to make his own decisions, just like a demon. He obviously never tells any of the other angels, just Crowley. But you can see his anxiety about this constantly, and I bet there's a little part of him that wonders if he's actually Fallen and somehow nobody has noticed yet, but worries that the moment they do he'll be officially kicked out of Heaven. That's gotta be so, so bad for you.
But there he sits, acting as an angel, irritating the other angels to the point of extreme measures simply by being himself, the way that Crowley does to humans and other demons with lots of thought and cleverness.
He even offers Crowley the temptation to defy God's decision and take control in Heaven. Yeah, Crowley is horrified by the idea, but he's gotta stop and think about it for at least a moment, right? Crowley just didn't take it because he sees beyond the system. He already knows that the sides are bullshit in the same way I told my Christian classmates that they didn't need to worry about devils because they were really still just all angels and Hell was obviously a lie to keep them under control. (Mazikim!) Crowley wasn't tempted to take power because questioning the System is literally his job right now.
He obviously corrupted Gabriel by being so clearly in love and enjoying himself on Earth. Gabriel has his clothing tailored special and wants to save it, just like Aziraphale, even though he doesn't give a shit before. He wants to stop the Apocalypse and keep things status quo, even though he didn't before -- that's Aziraphale rubbing off on him. He wanted to meet his Hellish counterpart in a place where humans eat and drink, just like Aziraphale. And he decided that he was going to fall in love with his counterpart and even start enjoying music, just like Aziraphale, and face exile with graciousness just like Aziraphale.
Aziraphale literally tempted Gabriel to Fall. He didn't do it by asking questions, just by being himself. Enjoying things. Enjoying clothing and music and love and Earth and peace and the status quo. Indulging himself and his desires above serving God or, frankly, the humans. (Yeah, I know, he tries when he bothers, but he's still a lazy, petty bitch who prefers his personal drama and own sense of comfort to nearly everything else, and he barely tries to hide it. That's why we love him.)
And now?
Baby is Supreme Archangel. And he's gonna defy God about it. This is everything the Miltonian Lucifer ever wanted.

The far cry 5 confused me, like ever played Assassin Creed 3? Like they did a good job showing the difference between American ideals vs what Congress did.
Like they outed George Washington historical orders to burn down native villages during the Seven Years War and how Congress screwed over the natives after the revolution
But like there was a subset of side quests called the Homestead missions, that showed the American dream. People from different walks of life coming together to make something different, something better, second chances and such.
And journalists was surprised that the normal town folks wasn’t racist to you if your character was non white? I mean, they would be weary of you regardless of race or gender as you are a Marshall so still an outside. Also one of the first marketing for 5 had a black priest show he getting armed to protect his town from the cult
But…the game humanized American townsfolk better than Hollywood been doing for the past decade.
Like a parade of American gun control…despite a French Canadian company executing our ideas better our own entertainment industry.
When you have a chance can you answer this anon? I’m a black American and I thought they did it well.
I've played Assassin's Creed 3 and I didn't really like it, but AC3 really doesn't have anything to do with my point about Far Cry 5 other than providing more evidence of Ubisoft's political leanings.
Ubisoft is a French company run and staffed by mostly left wing people. When they make political statements in their work, those statements are always pushing the left wing side of an issue. Far Cry 5 is very clearly supposed to be a game making fun of rural, religious life and American gun culture. They have two different characters who are large parts of the story who exist solely to make fun of Southern Americans, one of whom is a blatant MAGA stand in. The other is that character's son, a stereotypical stupid redneck who only gets some character development beyond that when he starts going against his father's beliefs. The bad guys are all white and religious and mostly male, while the good guys are multicultural with a lot of female characters. The main character is a federal Marshall and it's that main character who is the catalyst for the good guys finally pushing back the cult. It's not too difficult to see the message there being something along the lines of "rural prepper types who pride themselves on being self-sufficient need the government's help to protect themselves". The intent with Far Cry 5 was very clearly, at least in part, to mock "right wing" ideals and American rural culture.
But what they actually ended up doing was writing a love letter to those ideals and that culture. They ended up portraying most rural folk as accepting and competent people who just want to be left alone to live their lives, and who will do the right thing when they come up against a difficult situation. They ended up illustrating why the second amendment is so important by showing how an armed populace is necessary for fighting against tyranny when the police/government/etc can't, or won't. And yes this tyranny was a cult and not the government, but the point still stands. The fact that Ubisoft ended up "executing our ideas better our own entertainment industry" was by accident because they really don't understand the issues they're commenting on. They're a bunch of left wing French people who have never experienced rural American right wing culture trying to portray that culture from within their own left wing echo chamber, while also needing to tone down the political commentary to sell a video game to the very people they're trying to mock. But even the mockery that does get through ends up backfiring when the metanarrative overrides the written narrative. They focus so hard on making their bad guys out to be right wing religious nuts that they don't realize they're making their good guys out to be a much more numerous population of normal right leaning people fighting back against the extremism on "their" side.

Was meat unusually expensive in premodern egypt (relative to other food)? I suppose there's not much pasture just intensely arable floodplain and not terribly hospitable desert
I'm assuming that by 'premodern' Egypt you mean Ancient Egypt, because 'modern' Egypt starts in 1805, and they knew what they were doing in both time periods just one's a lot further away from the modern era than the other! There's more than enough pasture to farm animals. The Egyptians do it today just fine, and the desert has never really been a problem for them due to farming methods like irrigation. They can, did, and still do, make as much farmland as is necessary for them to grow food or do animal husbandry.
The problem lies in how much land the Ancient Egyptian could personally own, which of course depended entirely on your profession and social status. Owning more land was the prerogative of those who had the means to do it, thus those with lower incomes or who were lower in society didn't have a lot of land to use. Ergo, they would mostly use it to farm crops and smaller livestock that would serve them better overall. They're not big meat eaters anyway. The modern world wasn't either, until farming became easier, and big companies bought a lot of land to use, and thus meat production became faster and cheaper. Meat, if anything, is too cheap and readily available now that we take it for granted that it must have always been so.
Cattle, for instance, were extremely expensive in the New Kingdom due to the way they need to be kept. At market you could expect to pay 141 deben for a mature Ox and 20 deben for a young one. A deben is a copper weight of about 91g (3.2oz for those on the Imperial system), and you'd have to make a barter of things that were equal to that weight. So a person in Ancient Egypt is going to have to make up, for a fully grown Ox, 12.8kg (451.2oz) in item weight to buy it. That's a lot of stuff for an Egyptian that likely doesn't have a lot stuff they own in the first place. Then they've got to find a place to have the Ox live and eat, which is another expense.
When a fisherman was paid one and a quarter khar of emmer/barley grain per Egyptian week (10 days) and a couple of Henu jars of honey, that's not a lot to go on. A khar (ḫr) is a measure of volume at 76.8L, and the Henu (hnw) is also a volume measure at 0.48L. This is what they were given to live on alongside anything they could grow or keep at home, which would be mostly vegetables. Not only would this be their food source, but it's also something that could be weighed into shꜣt (Shematy), ḳdt (Kite), or dbn (Deben) and used to buy other goods at the market. But they couldn't do that with all of it, mostly because they needed to eat.
So, what do you do with your limited space, on a limited income? You grow vegetables, and keep smaller livestock (maybe a goat or some ducks/geese) that you could either use the milk from or cull for meat when you needed to, without costing yourself a fortune. You can also go to the Nile and get yourself some fish, or go to market and purchase some of the fish there. These would be cheaper in weight than cattle, and more readily available. Even a donkey, valued at 7 shꜣt, is far cheaper, as there are 12 shꜣt to a dbn. You can see how it's a fraction of the price. Animals that require more land and more care, are going to be more expensive than those that do not. Their meat will be too, due to the way they're raised. If you're an Egyptian who didn't earn enough for this, you're going to look elsewhere. If you're an Egyptian who had a lot of land, then you're going to keep a lot of cattle and probably eat the meat from them.
So, no, it's not unusually expensive for the time. The lack of meat in their diet is down to the environment (personally didn't have enough land to have a cow on), it being easier to get meat from smaller animals or fish, and culturally they're just not big meat eaters because vegetables and bread are easier to come across.

Completely agreed. Having no writing credits doesn't mean you have to throw your artistry out of the window. Taemin is a good example. Even if a song was not written by you, you can still make it your song. Taemin mastered that. Jungkook is just singing the songs but they're clearly not his. That's the difference. I know his album will be successful, Scooter will make sure of it. But I wonder if Jungkook will one day stop and think if the success was really worth all that. Jungkook became exactly what he wanted to be. Justin Bieber 2.0. There's nothing special about him or the songs anymore. Don't get me wrong, it's his choice and he should do what he wants to do. But I personally cannot support any of that. Scooter made Jungkook a puppet and Jungkook let him. Are you ready for the 236363 versions of Standing Next To You?
Careful anon, don't use the word puppet cause stans will come after you, lol.
No, but on a more serious note, I wouldn't call him that because it implies he had no power of making decisions, which I doubt. He signed off on this, he agreed, he liked the idea and that's it. Who am I to know what power of convicing Bang Si-Hyuk has over him or Scooter? But it's not even necessary for me to go down that road in order to talk about this.
Looking at the 2 singles already released, how the next ones sound like and the overall project, I think Jungkook could have just released an album full of covers and be done with it. A live session of his karaoke nights. What would be the difference when it comes to his contribution and input? The songs are basic. You have to be deep into stan mentality to not see that but it will at least look succesful cause of the marketing strategy.
Also, about that. Each time something new is happening, like other artists fanpages all of a sudden supporting the future album, CDs getting stocked, the 28348448 remix getting dropped and so much more, I get asks in my inbox. And I get that, but what I don't understand is why some of you are still surprised. You shouldn't. Everything is in line with the partnership of Hybe and Hybe America collaborating on the JK project and trying to see if they can skyrocket a Korean idol into the actual American mainstream. In order to do that, they use various methods. That's it. It's as simple as that. I don't know if they see it as an experiment or something long term. Hard to think it's the latter cause the guy is getting shipped to do his military service soon so where is the continuous presence in the American music landscape? It all sounds so ridiculous.

M4 JEALOUSY HEADCANONS!! Fluffy, angsty, soft, whatever you decide! All I could ask for is them to be long if you could make them? Not necessary tho! I just personally like reading long headcanon lists/writings
GN!Reader, I will try to make it long but we'll see how it goes, pre-relationship, I added songs!! Listen to my shitty music tastes or perish!!! /j
Felix Escellun
Pouty boy pouty boy pouty boy
Somehow I feel like Felix is actually the least jealous!! But he is the most scandalized!!!
He's more self-confident than his initial 'dredging for spirits in this veritable backwater' rant would make you think. He's been in a successful long-term relationship (aside from the whole death thing) so he kinda knows how to be self-assured and everything.
But Felix is a little bit of a Gremlin™ and he just has a flair for the dramatic.
Someone starts trying to chat you up and Felix literally just grabs your hand and drags you away because He's Still Working Up The Courage To Ask You Out Give Him A Couple Days
I just think it genuinely is funny if like,, he grabs your hand, laces your fingers together and says Listen, Dear, He Has Something He Wants To Ask You. But He Has To Prepare Himself. Can You Trust Him On This? You Can? Splendid!
And I mean yeah he's blushing the entire time but he's also leaps and bounds ahead of the other three so like
Good for Felix. You get it king. Take your time you have some trauma to work through and realizations to dawn on
He gets you guys matching jewelry or something and you wear it in public so that way when someone hits on you and Felix comes over and the person sees you guys are matching
they get the idea and back off
and Felix is just giving this little evil cat smile
(i'm specifically picturing this specific face)
I just love Felix being a chaotic little shit please
That's not to say he doesn't have insecurities. There are plenty of times he wonders if you'd be better off if he stopped pursuing you so someone else could. Maybe someone who's smarter or stronger. Maybe someone who wouldn't let their partner die in battle
,,, yeah he still needs to work through his grief over Rime.
but he is determined!!
And you know better than anyone that when Felix wants something, he will spend however long it takes to get it/reach the point he needs to reach. You being in Astraea is living proof of that.
In public he likes to (gently) take your elbow and/or hand.
Would he use magic to casually drop the trousers of someone who's oggling you? yeah. He would.
He's petty and also he's a little bit of a prankster so like He Will Take Any Opportunity To Cause Chaos
But ultimately he really is the least jealous. Except for if/when Scylla starts flirting then he's throwing hands
Song for him would be,, for some reason I almost wanna say Cooler Than Me by Mike Posner ?? Does that even count as a jealousy song tho? I think it does.
Anisa Anka
I just wanna mention once again how much I love Anisa
Anyways
This is when Anisa is still trying to maintain some professional boundaries so she's extra jealous because she likes you and she feels like she can't do anything about it >:(
Angy Annie >:( with her hair all poofy and her face all red and her nose all scrunched in frustration
Saaros just snickering into their journal because they already know what's gonna happen and it makes the buildup funnier
You guys are out at the market and someone offers you a free sample and you're like Oh Thanks!! and Anisa casually grabs it and is like Oh I'll Feed It To You So Your Hands Don't Get Dirty :) like okay Annie thank you baby love you
Someone doesn't even hit on you,, like you're wearing your cosplay (aka Starsworn uniform) and someone comes up and compliments you!! Because it's well made and looks nice y'know? And you guys are having a conversation about sewing techniques and types of fabric or whatever because this person is trying to make their own outfit or something and Anisa is just casually sliding into the conversation because Hey She Knows About Fabric Too! And she can totally impress you with her fabric skills :)
Anisa is just,, a little competitive? Like yes in general but also after everything with her father she feels like she needs to prove that she's worthy of affection and love so like
She's Squaring Up but in a respectful and knightly way
You guys are out walking or whatever and she notices some people looking at you and she offers you her arm because Oh She's Supposed To Be Your Escort In This Strange World You've Found Yourself In And She's Just Being Polite :)
Saaros lagging like ten steps behind you guys and they're just gagging into their journal because Holy Fucking Shit Can You Guys Just Get Together Already This Is Horrible For Them
Someone does hit on you and Anisa is just Throwing Off Hate Vibes right behind you.
But then as soon as you turn around to face her she's all smiley sunshine because she's supportive!
And you turn back around to face the other person and she is once again immediately back in Rage Mode.
Anisa is shy about touching you but she doesn't mind touching your outfit. So you can constantly find her adjusting your cloak and brushing off your shoulders and generally giving you lil touches.
I just think it's funny if you know what she's doing but she's still playing innocent.
If you do start hitting on someone then she'll stand aside (though she does linger nearby just in case things get dangerous) and not interfere.
Oh me oh my, my sweet self-loathing tropes, poor Anisa is bothered and beating herself up. Not particularly for not making a move on you (since she's still trying to be professional and respect boundaries) but for falling for you in the first place when she knows she can't have you. She tries to tell herself it's better this way, that you deserve someone who's strong and brave and honest. Someone who hasn't lied to the world with every breath they draw. Someone who doesn't have darkness in their DNA.
But it still hurts.
And if you go on dates?? I'm not saying she and Saaros are gonna discreetly follow along under the guide of wanting you to be safe but it's really so Annie can torture herself and be sad, but I am saying that you can clearly see that Anisa is wearing a really terrible wig and Saaros is just super boredly pushing an ice cube around the table and watching it melt.
The day after she asks how your date went and at this point you're kinda just messing with her so you start talking about it with a heart-eyes voice (whatever that would sound like) and she's just,,,
'🙃 oh MC I'm so glad you had such a lovely time' and on the inside she is Not Okay
If she had access to Spotify I think she'd be listening to like,,, Her by Dodie. Just very kinda 'this person means everything to me but they don't see me in the same way and it sucks but i love them anyways' type of vibes.
Saaros is in the background just waiting for everything to fall into place so Anisa can stop moping
Sage Lesath
I think Sage is my favorite to write jealousy stuff before because I absolutely love seeing anti-attachment (playboy-esque) characters getting an emotional pipe to the knees when they realize that not only are they in love, but they have no idea what to do about it because it's never happened before, and also they're forced to address their own self-worth issues and they just fuckin crumble a little. Little bit. Itty bitty bit.
Anyways let's talk about the fact that he brings you to the bar kinda often (since he spends a lot of time there) and you get hit on!! Probably at least once every time you guys go out! And every time it happens Sage is just >:(
I think,, that,,, Sage would be the kind of guy to where someone is hitting on you and he just casually slides up and throws an arm around your shoulders and be like :3 Hai :3 What Do You Want With My MC :3 Yeah That's Right They're Mine Back The Fuck Off :3 like he doesn't say it but he has that energy.
Does Sage realize how hypocritical it is for him to be jealous when he has his reputation? Yes.
But that's the other thing, I think that if you were to like,, have sex with someone,, he wouldn't really mind. What he is bothered by is the idea that you might meet someone better than him and then you'll realize how horrible he is and you'll leave him
Do I think Sage has abandonment issues? Yes. Actually I think all the Starsworn have some degree of abandonment issues but that's neither here nor there
Since Sage is a regular at the bar (or at least a lot of people know him) I think he might even like,, tell people to keep their greasy hands off you,,, not because you're his or anything (he's painfully aware that you aren't) but because 1. a lot of the people here are like him, aka they're horrible drunks, and 2. because you're going out to enjoy a drink, not deal with shitty pick-up lines
It's his job to tell you shitty pick-up lines
No but back to what I was saying I think Sage is constantly touching you. Arm around your shoulders, shoulder pressed against yours, knees bumping under the table.
If he's drunk and someone comes to talk to you he just growls and softly headbutts your arm because He Is A Cat And You Need To Give Him Attention Already !!! but he doesn't actually talk. He just makes little noises.
Listen okay cats will scent marks things that make them feel safe/comfortable and so Sage is constantly scent-marking you so that other ilephtas don't try anything. And since he's constantly touching you somehow his fur gets all over you and that sends the message to humans. Especially when he's next to you all the time.
If you start flirting with someone, then Sage won't interfere. He wants you to have fun and do your own thing. He'll swallow his jealousy as much as he possibly can but he also,, might,,, not be able to stay in the room. If you talk to him about it afterwards he'll try really hard to be supportive and make jokes about it and whatever but on the inside he just feels all twisted up in his tummy.
Ultimately he wants you to be happy,, he's just,,, sad that it couldn't be him.
Spends the entire day sulking a little bitty bit
Possibly in your bed. I've said it before and I'll say it every time it's relevant, I think that Sage (as a cat) finds your scent comforting and when he's upset he kinda just goes into your room and mopes. Has the added benefit of getting his fur everywhere on your bed because he's petty like that.
And then you get back to Fathom like 'Oh I met my friend's partner and they're super sweet they're such a cute couple' and Sage immediately regains +10000 happy points
He refuses to acknowledge that he's jealous. When Tulsi asks him about it, he innocently says that he's just looking out for you and wants to keep you safe!! He is a Good Wholesome Boi!! :3
Tulsi honestly isn't sure whether Sage realizes how transparent he is or not. She ultimately decides he isn't because he's really stupid and stubborn.
His song would be Bad Love by Halsey or Hey Jealousy by Gin Blossoms
Rime Varela
Okay anon but what if I,, like,,,, like instead of making this about you and Rime (as a traditional M4 post would be) what if I made it about Rime being jealous of you because he still loves Felix?? Cause I could do that. I won't. But I could. Maybe I should.
And in that very particular vein, his song would be When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars
'Oh Oz why don't you do both?' because I don't have enough brain cells to do that!! I'm a chronic idiot!!! Don't expect too much from me, friends, that's the lesson here.
Anyways let's circle back to the actual prompt!!
Between Anisa, Sage, and Rime, I actually can't decide who has the most self-loathing. But I think that it initially comes through the strongest with Rime because at this point (since it's pre-relationship we can assume it's before LoS has announced his re-emergence) he's the only one that knows LoS is alive and planning something.
I'm,, really,,, really upset we're not getting a Rime route. Not even because of the romance but because I want to know more about his (working) relationship with LoS and just,, how that happened. Like did Felix's spell actually work at all or was it entirely just LoS that brought him back? I actually do not know. Maybe it's mentioned in Felix's route but right now I can't remember so like,, I I dunno. Not really the point.
The point I'm making is that not only does Rime have jealousy problems, he also has a lot of self-hatred because he's evil and obviously you deserve better than that so he's like,, not having a great time with these feelings. Especially since his initial thing was like,, killing you?? And then he falls in love with you and it's like Fuck.
Once he accepts that he's in love with you and wants to ask you out then he's punched in the face by the fact that, Oh Yeah, You Have Suitors
I mean,,, i mean,,,,,, didn't dev call Rime a yandere several times before,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and i know i don't really do yandere stuff but like,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
*Rime pulls out a knife*
no Rime put it away
*Rime reluctantly puts it away*
Sorry I had to get all 2010s Wattpad for a second there because that's the last time I wrote yandere stuff and Yes, It Was Cringe
Anyways Rime probably does have some passing thoughts of violence but no he's not actually gonna do anything. Maybe I'll do a legitimate yandere thing if someone asks nicely but not today
Rime is just angrily and confusedly vibrating in the corner because What Does He Even Do About This Situation. You guys are supposed to be enemies.
Someone is hitting on you and Rime just casually tells them to Fuck Off Or Perish
That's just his attitude in general
Rime,,, who still has feelings for Felix but also loves you,,, you and Felix are dating,,,,, he doesn't even know who he's more jealous of,,,,,,,,,,,,
Song would be When It Was Me by Paula De Anda

Do you think Harry and Jeff fell out? At the Grammy's they looked so happy together but I suppose Harry could have just been happy because he won a Grammy. During The Brits Harry looked happy but in the pics after he looked mostly unhappy. There's pics of him with Jeff and Kendall and he looks unhappy. Jeff seems connected to the Kardashians. He seems connected to all of Harry's beards. Harry and Jeff always seemed so close but I haven't seen much lately that suggests that. Speaking of the Kardashians, I saw a rumor that they asked Harry to appear on their Hulu show and he refused. It might not be true but it wouldn't surprise me because Ben / Full Stop produce that show so it is likely Ben asked Harry lol.
I think it's a possibility, this is a discussion for a while now. And as much as I'd like to see Harry far away from Jeff... I'm going to be honest, Harry seemed very annoyed in several situations over the past year, but I never notice anything indicating something directly at Jeff, specifically. They do seem good friends, Harry likes him a lot and that's pretty obvious to me. And you bet he's very well connected in the industry considering who he is. (I've heard about the Kardashians rumour LOL)
I'm aware that a great part of this fandom right now likes to think about Jeff as the villain, as the one closeting Harry. And I don't think they're wrong, he is contributing to it for sure, the last few stunts happened under his management. But as someone who witnessed all the bullshit with Modest and everything during 1D, it's very hard for me to think Jeff is the one to be blamed right now. It goes so much deeper, Jeff doesn't even scratch the surface of the real problem. It doesn't mean I like him or that I think he's making good choices, because he's absolutely not. I'm FUMING with this rumour about Howard Stern, I will go personally cut Jeff's balls off if this turns out to be true.
But overall - poor choices or not - my opinion is that Full Stop operates under Sony's rules and under abusive old contracts. And it is what it is, it's not that simple. For context, here's a post where I talk about how stunts are ~necessary~ from a marketing point of view if Harry can't come out with Louis.

I'd love to go into psychology. I think that diagnosing people is absolutely fascinating, but I have a really hard time with empathy. I can understand characters in TV shows and books and why they do the things that they do, but when it's real people it feels like there's a mental block or something? I just have to try really hard to be understanding and patient and I think that doing that for years would make me feel terrible. I have the right personality to be a psychiatrist, but I hate science and I know that I'd hate doing medical school. I know that there's other jobs in psychology (like a research psychologist, or a professor or something maybe) but getting a PhD is phenomenally hard and I'm not sure if I can do it. I feel like, for a therapist or really for anyone in psychology, having a lot of empathy is almost a requirement. Can you be a therapist if you have a hard time with empathy and relating to people?
Hi! I'm so excited to hear you're interested and I always love talking to folks who are passionate about this as a career! We need folks, yes including folks like you!
For starters: psychology is a broad field and not just one career. There's different types and paths to follow, not just the stuff you see on TV. It can be stuff like psychiatry (which is more medication based and why more like med school), therapist (my field which I didn't need a doctorate for in the USA, only my masters and liscensure hours), occupational therapy (which is its own field and so so very important), school counselor. And etc etc. Some folks even use psych in other fields, like teachers and I know it helps im advertising and marketing. It's so multifaceted that there really isn't a limit!
What I mean to say is, in short, it's about figuring out what you're comfortable with doing and what's the right fit for you. And you have time! One of my classmates in my masters was 50, and they're terrific. Higher education is necessary, but there's many paths for the same thing. I'd say see what opportunities might be available for you now to test the waters, see where your interests lie. Do you like working with kids or adults? Do you prefer play therapy or talking about feelings? Do you like moving around and working on motor skills or helping someone in a crisis or trauma situation? Are you interested in social work or working in schools? Start with researching and see what sparks your interest, the more passionate you are about it the more motivated you'll be to go to school for it.
And as to your second question: you already HAVE empathy. You said you understand what a fictional character is thinking and why they act a certain way, and that's a start.
It's true having empathy is an important skill in this field, but it's a SKILL for a reason. It's something we have to practice, and that's part of why school is so important. Part of it is understanding how someone's experiences lead to they way they act, which comes from not just empathy but understanding the symptoms in play here.
I'll give a real example: a parent comes to me and says they don't like the work I'm doing with their kid and they want a new therapist, even though the kid doesn't. My instinct, and this I cannot stress enough is valid and normal reaction, is to be hurt and upset. I'm even angry, because I know I am doing good work and it's the parent who has been causing issues. I'm frustrated and so very very hurt.
But I can also acknowledge that my feelings are separate from the situation, that I need to dig deeper to find out the full bigger picture here. This career is a lot like detective work, because we have to search for clues that might tell us why someone does or acts a certain way. So for this parent I might think about what I know of home life, current events that might he impacting them. Does the parent have their own mental health that causes issues? Are they upset with me or the situation? And can I help them figure put and communicate? It builds on more than just empathy I think, and it's something that comes largely from experience and recognizing patterns.
It doesn't always come naturally, but it does come with practice. You definitely have empathy if you are able to think about how your reaction affects another person. It's just building on those skills! Gathering experience and letting yourself learn, recognizing what might be a weakness that you can build on. And crucially: Practice practice practice!

long post about photography and phone cameras
as a photographer, something about the idea of everyone having a cellphone camera has always kinda irked me and i wasn't sure why. i mean, you'd think as a photographer that would be really cool? everyone does photography, everyone has a camera. but i think the problem is that; it's a different type of photography, but people don't realize that. everyone thinks that they're doing photography when they use their phone camera, even just to snap a selfie or whatever.
when doing this, they aren't doing the 2 main things that are actually the core of photography: changing settings manually and making the image look exposed how they want, and changing the composition manually to compose the photo how they want. on regular phone cameras you literally cannot do the former, while probably 98% of them aren't paying any mind to the latter.
don't get me wrong, this isn't a bad thing by any means; they just aren't really doing the same type of photography, or for the same reasons. the goal of the average person is typically just to capture a moment in time, to post on social media or to have as a digital memory. composition or manual settings aren't needed, because spending time making this single photo look really good artistically isn't the point.
what almost everyone is doing with their phone cameras, isn't a form of art.
the part that irks me, i've found is that most people kind of don't realize this. it changes people's opinions on photographers and photography as an art form, when they think they're doing it all the time. i regularly tell people that just because i took a photo, doesn't mean it's done. that editing a photo is part of the photography process, a necessary next step after taking the photo. now everyone thinks this is photoshopping or photo manipulation, because honestly in most people's experience, editing phone camera shots is unnecessary and only usually for instagram filters and stuff.
everyone having access to the tools of the medium, but using them for different ends, changed their opinions and thoughts on the medium itself. and as a photographer i can say that this change is not usually for the better.
most people don't understand photography because they think they already understand it, and do it regularly.
no technological change will completely solve a mostly social issue like this one, but i'd argue that phone companies not marketing what their phone cameras are meant for as photography (since 98% of the time, this isn't what they're used for anyways), would at least not make it worse.

Is there anything at all that could give Dove a fighting chance or be a weakness/pitfall for Krow? Could Gabby and her partner actually do much to help? (Yes/no)
Does Gabby’s partner know/know about Krow and what do they think of him?
For Gabby’s free time honing of analysis (and embitterment) maybe it’s true crime, volunteering for a crisis hotline or hacking. Those would help her recognize his brand of social engineering.
Also art came back but how hard does Krow still have it in day to day life? Does he have the rights of citizenship, eat enough at home and keep warm, does his art/music and workmates help him get by or is life outside Dove still just depressing and tough?
With all his working long shifts and emergency jobs how does he have the time to follow and watch Dove?
Was the first murder accidental, Dove related or through financial desperation?
Is his confidence and composure real or faked? How did he develop it against the odds?
((This was sent in a while ago, but eh, should still try to answer it.))
Without too much spoilers, really it would have to be time and patience in dealing with Krow, especially if Dove was kidnapped by him. A matter of watching and trying to learn his patterns and any flaws to try and escape him. Gabby and LT would do everything to help find them but... I'll just say they're have a more difficult time than they may anticipate. I will say that there's been many real life cases of people having hostages and kidnapped folks kept in their houses without their neighbors any the wiser, or even other FAMILY members knowing, for years even. It is VERY possible that Krow can keep you cooped up with him for a long time.
I would say LT has probably heard of Krow from Gabby's complaints about him, but is yet to meet him for himself. "As for my own thoughts on him... This is all based on what I have heard from Gabrielle, so my opinion is certainly skewed. But if I had to summarize my thoughts to one word it's this: troubling. I have... seen others in the past with behavior similar to Krow's, or even worse, and it is... never a good thing. ...If he should pose any kind of threat to Gabrielle's safety though," LT pauses, gives a small smile but it doesn't reach his eyes, "I will take the necessary steps to protect her."
And certainly. Gabby's various... skills would come in handy for recognizing the kind of person, and tactics, Krow employs. But is it enough? Hmmm.
For these other questions: life still isn't spectacular for Krow, but having his muse and motivation for doing art again has improved his mood and emotional and mental outset tremendously. There's still... varying things in life don't make it a cake walk, but Krow isn't unhappy with his life. Not just having Dove and art, but he is happy with his job, workmates and all. He isn't exactly CLOSE with most of them (and he prefers to keep it that way) but he gets along with them just fine, and they find him agreeable.
Through sheer determination. /lh But in all seriousness, Krow's work and personal life balance... is probably better than most. His boss, Luke (I'm pretty sure I dropped his name before nsdbsd) is very respectful of his workers and what they do, and does his best to not infringe on their personal time unless needed. Krow is able to say no if he really wants to (and he has before), but he also respects and likes Luke a lot.
For Krow's first murder? Slight spoilers, I suppose, but I don't mind sharing. Before Dove, Krow wasn't that much of a law breaker (beyond when he had been homeless and would steal food or loiter or whatever). His first murder, and all since, have been basically in relation to Dove somehow, not always entirely personal but... still ties back to Dove in some fashion. (What I mean by this is: some folks Krow has killed because they had been cruel to Dove, so that is personal. Others though he would kill and do black market dealings because he wanted to get some money quickly for something FOR Dove, such as getting them something nice. And if asked, Krow would say he had some funds saved away or the like. He is smart enough to know not to do this too frequently and have Dove asking more questions.)
As for his confidence and composure, it's real. Or at least, it's real most of the time. Krow isn't super human, he does get self conscious or lose his bearings like anyone else. Part of it is that it's just... his personality, it just comes naturally to him to be confident, self assured and all of that. However, it was also honed over the years due to various life circumstances. Hood luck getting him to talk about that though.
