I've seen people be critical of Butch Hartman as a bad artist, and a bad friend, and a bad how runner, and a scam artist, and trying to sneak his religion into his work - But I need people to also understand that Elmer "Butch" Hartman isn't just a scummy lying, asshole, thief; he's a member of a christian dominionist movement that's trying to take over the United States of America, and eventually the entire world, with some of the movement's individual churches wanting to cause The Biblical Rapture.

It's essentially a Doomsday Cult but it's too decentralized to meet the actual definition of a cult: it doesn't have a singular leader or core structure. The movement is called the Seven Mountain Mandate - a collection of Christian political ideologies that are not inherent to Christianity - to the point many other churches believe the 7-M is heretical. The loose network of very big and powerful churches (including the church of Donald Trump's Spiritual Advisor) are trying to control the "seven mountains of control" one of which is Art and Entertainment. Hartman isn't just trying to use his clout as a cartoonist to convert people into his religion, he is trying to help take over the world.

And just in case anyone wants to know. His church believes that mental health issues (everything from depression to PTSD to autism), any medical illness, queerness, and other religions are caused by demons that can be prayed away, and his wife runs a "church camp" where people do attempt to cure all of that with prayer - yes they try to cure autism, queerness, and belief in non-christian religions. These people are also Zionist who want Israel to expand across the Middle East to help bring about The Biblical Rapture.

When you say someone is as bad as Hartman, please remember this, please remember he is actively trying to help this political organization take over the world.

I was watching the newest episode with my friends to see if the episode would make up for the terrible writing and actually fucking develop her female characters until Viv literally made a ""joke"" about low functioning autistic people with that one new character in the sloth ring... Me and my friends had a sour taste in our mouths! I honestly thought Viv would've known better than to write shit like this this AFTER THE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT of the fans pointing out her bigotry time and time again! seeing viv and her writing staff come up with shit like that makes me believe Vivziepop definitely hates people who are autistic or neurodivergent and that's why she ALMOST used the r word! Only to ACKNOWLEDGE the fact that she shouldn't use it because it's a slur but used it anyway in the pilot and DIDN'T apologize for it whatsoever! Vivziepop is a disgrace and is disgusting.

Also yes, ableism and any other bigotry is never ok even if the writers (not the fictional characters, this isn't about them, they dont exist!) try to frame the scene as "CUTE AND FUNNY!", comedy does not make bigotry exist in a vacuum. It's nasty no matter how much someone tries to show it as "CUTE!", and the episode being that ableist as you're saying (havent watched much of it, but from what ive heard it's just as bad.) is not ok in the slightest. Vivziepop and Adam (and Brandon!) arent "clever" or "fighting against the haters! >:)" for this. They are losing respect, they are losing money, they are losing viewers, they are losing dignity. They gain nothing from this long term, yes, people who are like them love them, but keeping up with this behavior will screw them over if this doesnt stop happening. This is just how life works.

It's literally a "talk shit and see what happens" situation.

Vivziepop's just messing up her own dream, and it's sad to watch.

TW: Vent about Art and Writing

Have you ever felt insecure about your own art and writing? Have you ever compared your content to others, especially ones that have inspired your own work? Have you felt like your stuff isn't good enough, especially compared to others? Have you avoided looking at others' work out of fear of looking inferior to them? If so, what do you think that says about that person? Have you ever felt like quitting on either one or both (art and writing)? How do you deal with those insecurities?

Sorry about this vent. I've always had insecurities about my art and writing (mostly my art), but recently, these insecurities have been flaring up in my head, to the point where I feel like I wanna quit both in their entirety and find something else that I can succeed in. And I thought that maybe I'd ask for some help and advice and tips on dealing with this.

Everyone have insecurities (if they say they dont they are LYING). Sometimes when i read books or a fanfic or comic i get overwhelmed at how the writers/artists can express themselves so freely. And like as much as I criticize media I feel like if I don't make my own stories as perfect then i might come off like a hypocrite.

What helps me is figuring out what i do like. I do like long sentences, so i try to break them up. Another thing is sorting out which details are important or not. That way I focus on the stuff that serves the story, while the lesser stuff aids in worldbuilding without being intrusive. But the biggest thing is accepting I will make mistakes. My products aren't going to be 5000 perfect and that's okay. Especially when i watch stuff like Loonatics unleashed & Moffat's sherlock. Just because they're not perfect doesn't mean I have to drop them or add a disclaimer. I can allow myself to ENJOY the process.

I also just draw. Even if it's bad. Because if people like Rob Liefeld and Butch Hartman can get a lot of money from their terrible artwork then me making crummy oc x canon with squiggly lineart & wonky coloring won't hurt. It's all about paying attention to what a actually useful and ignoring the rest.

Excellent point @madametamma but I wasn’t really keeping with his plot for her tbh.

I was more putting her with the other characters I envision as the Ancients (Clockwork, Nocturne, Sojourn, Vortex, Undergrowth, and Fright Knight) and having her fit to a role amongst them.

With the Flynn thing, I tend to go with the backstory @the-stove-is-on-fire made for him which is Amazing and fully cuts Misery Vex more or less out. (Though I do kinda picture him running into her first and her like, “playing” with him which was probably traumatic)

In all honesty the only thing I like about her is she’s a spider themed ancient and that could be very fun, especially playing with like blue orange morality and the Ancients being like, these terrifying Eldritch entities or basically elder gods? So that’s what I went with! It’s also why I’m redesigning the rest of them! (Except CW he’s fine. He’s perfect as is.)

It’s also to tie into uhhh a kinda backstory I’m trying to piece together for my tarot cards but that’s in the beginning stages so 🤷🏼

But yeah I think we can all agree Bitch Hartman doesn’t really know what he’s doing.
