the scriddler nation doesn't appreciate Riddler 2022 as I do so I'm here to make you love him

He's one of the best interpretations of Riddler and here is WHY.

“he's a desyassified version,” “he doesn't wear expensive suits full of question marks,” “that suit was boring” NO!!!!! IT WAS THE PERFECT SUIT FOR HIM TO START!!! He literally comes from the lowest point, and he talks about how the men in power and corruption keep the low income/poor people at the bottom. Ofc he can't afford those shiny beautiful suits because he doesn't have money for it. Also the military suit was GREAT. He paint it and designed his own symbol which is amazing, a gun sight with a "?" in the center.

Also, he fights againts corruption and classism? 😭 Why would ppl hate that? He fights for the people that were forgotten like him.

“it's not the same story of his father and blah blah blah” ok, they changed his origin story A LOT, and I can get why you get mad at it. I also get mad when I am used to the southern granny Scarecrow story and ppl change it to the story of his father experimenting of him- BUT regarding the Riddler's origin story, it is so so great. Eddie HATES LIES AS WELL, HATES CHEATING, because ppl used to tell him that he could have a better future, and gave him fake hopes. He just wanted an opportunity to be better and when that promise of renewal broke, he broke, too.

He grew wanting to please everyone, be a good boy for the nuns and the other children at the orphanage, even if he didnt agree in somethings or if it was difficult for him to act "normal" (masking his autism- we will talk about that soon), but NOBODY thanked or pleased him. As he got older, he still followed orders from his corrupt boss and the goverment. But what did they do for him? NOTHING. And when he does something for himself ppl tag him as self-centered.

He became the Riddler for the others that also needed help, not only because of him, and ppl still think he's selfish.

He's implied to be autistic (you can notice this more in the comics of Riddler: Year One by Paul Dano), he is non-verbal since kid (canon), as an adult ppl say he doesn't talk and call him weird. He doesn't know how to interact with people in a "normal" way. He also seems to vocally stim with riddles and weird silly noises that you can hear in the movie.

The catholic guilt content? PLEASEEEE. We need to take advantage of that. He even did a catholic reference riddle!!! (That one of the sins of the father)

We can also see that topic of him dont knowing if he's insane or not, (or denying being it). He knows his situation is not good, and HE TRIES to be better, listening to podcast about mindfulness and stay positive- but at the end, everything gets worse to him. He's very smart and is afraid that his biggest and greatest thing about himself (his mind) is also the worst thing and can turn againts himself because of a mental illness. We saw it in the movie when Batman calls him "sick and twisted, etc etc," and he has a mental breakdown. Yes, that scene is DEEPER than you think. His mother died in Arkham when he was in the orphanage as a kid, now imagine that the guy you always admired says to you, “you're gonna die alone at Arkham” just like his mother did and no one cared. He doesn't want that, he wants to be remembered. He doesn't want to end up like his mother- alone and mentally ill.

He makes funny jokes in the movie! He's so goofy!!!!

AND CAN WE TALK ABOUT HIM BEING A BIG BOY?!!!! CHUBBY RIDDLER SUPREMACY!!!!!

And please he has the same bad habits as Arkhamverse Riddler, you cannot hate this version of him if you love Arkham Knight Riddler. He doesn't sleep well because he plays the DETECTIVE role (YES! HE ALSO GOES THERE AND INVESTIGATES- or else how tf would he have evidence of all the corruption and know all that information?) and claims that Einstein only took naps. He doesnt eat well. His lastname is Nashton (a reminder that is canon that Arkhamverse Riddler had the same lastname before changing it to Nygma). And in this page called "nigma. org" is well known and ppl call him a genius, which suggests that we will soon see how he calls himself E. Nygma.

And yes, he is also a little bastard insufferable, and if you dont think so, then I guess we didnt watch the same movie.

Jonathan’s teeth slightly shine behind his lips, curling in an almost invisible smile that makes Edward shudder.

“Are you sure that-” he starts, his voice hoarse, but as usual, Jonathan is having none of it.

“Feeling self conscious? That’s new.”

They both know it isn’t. Why would Edward take so much care of his image if he weren’t so fixated on it? On the right hair dye, the right shade of contacts. A perfect suit that accentuates his features, shoes so polished they seem to compete against the sun.

Self conscious it is, right.

“You know that’s not what I mean.”

His pants are still on, and it’s getting a little uncomfortable, but nothing he cannot handle. Long fingers caress his face, a thumb softly pressing his lower lip.

“Then explain it to me. With words that are proof of that brilliant brain of yours.”

He knows what to say, how to make Edward’s heart flutter. The Riddler can be a master manipulator, but nobody can play with people’s hearts like the Scarecrow. That’s just facts, but he would never admit it out loud.

“I’m bleeding.”

Jonathan raises an eyebrow.

“So? A wound? Should a wound stop us?”

Edward groans so deep he hurts his throat.

“I’m on my period, you annoying bastard.”

Jonathan’s smile becomes bigger, and it’s almost imperceptible, but Edward knows him well. He is enjoying this torture.

“So?”

“It's disgusting! I feel disgusting.”

“I fail to see the correlation, Edward.”

He knows Jonathan is trying to piss him off, which he is kind of succeeding at. Edward is indeed kind of mad, unable to stand this man playing dumb in a situation like this.

"I'm on my period… and you want to have sex."

Jonathan's eyes shine in something that Edward has seen before, but that he doesn't fully recognize. It's a hunger that hits him deep, making his legs weak. Jonathan has that effect on him.

"Yeah."

"What about the blood? About the smell? About making a goddamn mess?"

Okay, there is definitely hunger in Jonathan's eyes, his lower lip trembling a little in what Edward recognizes as barely contained desire.

"We can use towels. I don't care about the mess."

"I really don't get-"

"I want you in every way. Is that so hard to believe?"

It really is, but Edward doesn't say anything. A part of him feels tempted to just pretend, to use that big ego he has, to flaunt it to hide his insecurities. Before Jonathan's inquisitive eyes, he cannot do such a thing.

He just kisses him, tensing slightly when Jonathan's fingers play with the zip on his pants, nodding slightly when Jonathan looks at him, granting him a silent permission.

Still, he grimaces a little when Jonathan opens the drawer, taking the towels out, carefully placing them on the sheets. Edward obediently sits on them, Jonathan's smile the best treat. He reclaims it again with his lips, trying to relax. Jonathan is not lying. He really wants him like this.

Nervous fingers caress the skin underneath the clothes, and they both shiver, getting rid of them as quickly as they can. Not enough time to think about what they feel if they just focus on the physical sensation.

Edward feels as if he were an unwrapped Christmas present, layer after layer, until he is bare in front of Jonathan. He makes a face when he looks downwards, his thighs already bloody, but Jonathan's expression is one of pure joy.

"God, Edward… Let me. I want to…"

He licks his lips, and Edward finds himself mimicking the gesture.

"Strange tastes you have…"

Jonathan's smile is a silent promise.

"Oh, you have no idea…"

Edward knows he feels sensitive. He has touched himself while on his period, and it always feels a little bit different. Messier, of course, but also… more intimate.

The way Jonathan kisses his chest, focusing on a racing heartbeat, breath against skin though…

It drives him mad.

Edward has always envied his patience, the way he treats him. Despite how much he clearly wants to eat him out, to be inside of him, he still takes his sweet time to make sure Edward knows how much he likes him.

As if he could forget. Sentimental old man…

“Your heartbeat is getting faster,” Jonathan notes, matter-of-factly. Edward groans, his fingers tangling themselves in Jonathan’s dark, greasy hair.

“And whose fault is it?”

Jonathan doesn’t answer, his gaze focused on Edward’s body. The towel is already stained, that much Edward knows, but Jonathan seems to think nothing disgusting at the sight of it. Quite the opposite.

“I’m dying to…”

“Fuck, just do it then.”

Jonathan’s smile would be creepy to anyone else, but Edward knows him best. He whispers a small curse when Jonathan’s breath caresses his groin, even more when he murmurs a praise that Edward is too overwhelmed to process.

Edward pushes him a little, without thinking, only to make him shut up, only not to think about the whole matter. The warmth gets hot, thin lips against his cock, kissing him softly, a warm tongue circling him when he forgets how to breathe. He moans, his voice hoarse, one of his feet moving unconsciously, his muscles tensing.

“Sensitive…” Jonathan mutters, but he doesn’t stop. Edward’s hand shakes against his nape, Jonathan’s tongue tasting him like the sweetest delicacy. Drinking from every sound he makes, his face a bloody mess. He smiles when Edward looks at him, and his teeth are dirty, but it’s not disgust what pools inside of Edward’s groin.

He giggles softly, the gesture interrupted by a moan when Jonathan does a particularly nice motion with his tongue, taking him by surprise.

“Do that again,” Jonathan whispers against his inner thigh, licking it tenderly afterwards. “I love your laugh.”

Edward swears his soul is leaving his body, Jonathan’s mouth going back to him. It all becomes blurry after a little while, because Jonathan, bless his dark and rotten soul, keeps sucking on him like that, smiling against him from time to time, only stopping to breathe for a couple of seconds.

Something escapes Edward’s lips. Maybe a word, a plea. Maybe it’s just a whimper that barely resembles something coherent. A warning that Jonathan ignores, lost in the pleasure of his flesh and blood.

He doesn’t stop even when Edward spasms, a deep sound leaving his throat, so utterly surprised by the strength of his orgasm that he cannot even pronounce Jonathan’s name. They both know he tries, though.

The towels are probably a mess under them, but Edward forgets to care about it for a blissful moment. He does notice how Jonathan licks his lips, feverishly getting closer, probably to kiss him, but Edward stops him just in time.

“Clean… clean yourself first.”

“And then?”

“And then… I want you inside.”

And God, Jonathan smiles like a fool in love, blood around his mouth, like a messy kid after eating his favorite cake. Edward laughs breathlessly, and he can see Jonathan physically restraining himself from kissing him.

Later, though. Later there will be all the kissing he wants.

Since you didn't specify the verse I went specifically with the version of them I have in my head.

In this case I would mark it as "I can make it soo fucked up <3" , "They're exes", "I can make it SO stupid <3", "They make me feel INSANE", "most codependant bitches on Earth", "brb gotta go for their whole tag", "They enable the worst of each other", "I like it in very specific scenarios that exist only in my head", "Oh there's no way this will end well", "In a relationship. Not sure what relationship is but they are in one." , "Thematically delicious", "Compatible band of freaks", "Inherent eroticism of atempted murder."

Some curiosityes:

-->I did go for their whole tag on AO3. I didn't like all fics, I striaght up gave up very quickly in some and I'm only know evolving into a better reader and doing more than kudos on the ones I like. But I went through the whole tag.

--> I firmly believe they would never work in cannon. They barely interact and is always hostile. Maybe as friends. But I do think they are a ship that works better as fandom dinamics because they need specific scenarios to function.

--> Like half of the fandom I was introduced to them by codotverse (where they aren't cannon but are still the OTP) .

--> They are fucked up and evil Cecilos and I'll die on that hill. Scarecrow is Carlos if Carlos wasn't baby and Riddler is just Cecil if Cecil activally comited crimes instead of passivaly (and mostly accidentaly key word being mostly, I love Cecil and he is a better person than Eddie in all ways but he did some fucked shit and also just comited some crimes against unfair laws but this one is fine).

I know Steph and Ed having any kind of relationship might not be that common (and I think most of the works I've read with them are yours), but in that case, shouldn't we all credit to everyone who created the first tag for every relationship? For example, (correct me if I'm wrong, I don't read the comics) but a while ago I saw someone's post about how funny it was that we ship Jon and Ed even though in comics they barely have any interaction (again, I don't know if this is true, I don't read comics), so shouldn't we credit to whoever wrote the first Scriddler comic?

But also, it is still kinda difficult to know who created something, you might've been the person who created the tag in AO3, but that's not the only ff site, someone could've done it first in FF.net, Wattpad, Tumblr or some other site, or maybe even someone that wrote something but never published it.

And, like you, who saw their interactions in the comics and had the idea of making them a family or Ed taking care of her, someone else, that hasn't read your fics, could have the same idea (excluding calling him her 'imaginary friend' because that is very specific, or for example, your 'Water Lilies' fic plot) and write a fic.

In instances where you could ask for credits is when you create an oc or something that doesn't exist in the original work, for example, there's this Harry Potter fic where the author created something called 'Climagia' (some women could control the earth elements) and in that case, you could ask for credit because it's something that does not exist in the books, but Steph and Ed already exist in the comics (like you said, you didn't create them) and making them be friends/siblings/family is not something so specific as to claim any credit, in my opinion.

And I completely agree to saying that creating fanart of any kind is a full-time, important activity!! As a ff writter, I've also created some uncommon pairings, but I don't expect anyone to give me credit for them because the characters are already there, I just took them and put them together, something that someone else can do.

I'm not writing this as to fight with you or anything, or change your mind, I just read what you wrote and wanted to give my opinion, and mention a few things as to why some people might not give credits.

First of all, thank you for reading my works! I’m very happy to count you as a reader :)

Now, there are relationships that became so popular and so widely spread, no one knows where the idea comes from anymore (if it's one or multiple people, a story, a fanart or a podcast or whatever else that started it). For some characters it's increased by their proximity in canon, what fully explains Superbat, StephCass or other ships between characters who share a complicity. I consider Riddlebat fully fits in this category. I don't know who invented Scriddler, but it became a widely spread ship while Jonathan and Edward never shared anything more that a couple of positive interactions in the source material. Someone likely launched the idea by a story or a piece of art, and the fandom took hold of it. That person has the right to feel bad when seeing something they created became so popular and so re-invented by everyone else, nobody remembers them anymore. Personally, I find that a bit sad, to think someone created something so cherished in the fandom and nobody knows them. I would be profoundly afflicted if the same happened with the Stephanie & Edward friendship / family bond. Sure, I would be happy to see it grow popular, but not at the price to be completely forgotten as the person who launched it in the fandom. If that were the case, I'd be hurt and I would feel like all my work gets... entirely wasted.

When I say I made my researches, I mean it. Not only on AO3. I guarantee there are no stories featuring Edward adopting Stephanie Brown, no matter the verse, before I made this very trope a thing in my AU 'Safe & Sound' first. Sure thing, I can't verify works that were never posted, and that's why I personally consider I made their family a thing since I first posted, *not* since I first thought of it. Believe me, I've been thinking about them being brother-sister / father-daughter / soul siblings for much longer than I write this very same topic. Still, I consider it doesn't count in the fandom archives since my older drafts featuring them are written in notebooks and were never published. I agree that someone might have picked on their similarities without reading my stories, but I want to say that it's part of the deal: if someone had the idea of them as family, how could they pass checking THE most popular fanfiction site to see if this has been translated into a fanfic on AO3 already? Actually, I would love to receive a comment like "I had this idea since I read about Riddler and Stephanie, I'm so glad someone agrees with me!" and then see this person do their own story, while knowing they may have thought about it, they haven't launched the trend and they acknowledge it. I take that example because I received similar comments for a recurrent topic in my fics, being that my Edward was a teenager when he begun his Riddler career. Placing him under eighteen when he first suited up his costume is the headcanon field, and it pleases me to see others enjoy to see this portrayal in my stories. Thank you for giving your opinion. On my side, I consider that making Edward adopt a young Stephanie *is* specific enough to ask for credit. Not the same as portraying them as friends, but making Eddie her father or her big brother, and making them each other's most important person in their world, the person they would choose above anything and anyone else including themselves *is* something I can ask credit for, since it existed nowhere before I brought it to life. If anything, I find your reference a bit sad there, and I am sincerely sorry you created relationships that became popular without you being acknowledged for it, is that what you are saying? Because if you were the first and exclusive author of said relationships, for which you likely got very involved, then it's a shame it became used and re-used without people remembering you started the trend. You deserved your recognition in the fandom world, because being fanfiction writers and fanart artists should always mean we are supportive of each other, as we all share this same passion. Again, it would make me feel like I wasted my time, while I engage in my writing with all my heart, if I don't get the minimum of recognition being that people remember Edward being Steph's parent, brother or best-friend-ready-to-do-anything-for-her comes from my stories.

Worry not lol, actually I love to hear divergent opinions, it's always interesting! Thank you for sharing your point and by doing so, giving me an occasion to develop mine!
