Just for fun, I have been comparing the three "main cinematic corpuses" when it comes to fairy tales in American media, the three most famous series of movies (or movie-like features) tackling fairytales as a group. Disney's animated classics, the Faerie Tale Theater series, and the Cannon Movie Tales. Each a good reflexion of what people of America usually consider the "main core" of fairytales. (I also looked into Disney's un-made projects, since it reveals the company's intentions and perception of fairytales)
Results: the most recurring fairytales, present in all three of these groups, include Snow-White, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast, Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, The Frog Prince, The Emperor's New Clothes, Rumpelstiltskin and Puss in Boots.
On the second place, present in two of the groups only: Rapunzel, Jack and the Beanstalk, the Three Little Pigs, The Snow Queen, Cinderella, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Pinocchio and The Pied Piper of Hamelin, Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Emperor's Nightingale.
More unique fairytales include The Twelve Dancing Princesses, Rip van Winkle, The Princess who had never laughed, The Boy who left Home to find out about the Shivers, Thumbelina, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, The Princess and the Pea, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, the "B'rer Tales". (I did include fairytale-like short stories but tried to avoid some larger works like The Wind in the Willows, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Mary Poppins or The Wizard of Oz).
It does fit quite well with what Americans usually perceive as the "regular fairytale canon" - with a few exceptions such as the absence of the Three Billy Goats Gruff, which was for a very long time the only Norse fairytale known to the USA.

Sleeping Beauty Spring: "Cannon Movie Tales: Sleeping Beauty" (1987 film)
Tumblr media
For children of the '80s and '90s, the Cannon Movie Tales are cult classics much like Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre. Filmed in Israel, released direct-to-VHS, and shown frequently on the Disney Channel too, these nine fairy tale movie musicals are a memorable blend of '80s camp and sincere, innocent charm, performed by casts filled with celebrities. Sleeping Beauty, the second film in the series, is no exception. It stars Tahnee Welch (daughter of Raquel Welch) as Princess Rosebud, Morgan Fairchild as the Queen, musical theatre actor David Holliday as the King, Oscar-nominee Sylvia Miles as the villainous Fairy of Red, rock singer Jane Wiedlin as the kindly Fairy of White, Nicholas Clay as the Prince, and dwarf actor Kenny Baker, best known as R2D2 in Star Wars, as a friendly Elf.
This Sleeping Beauty blends details from both Perrault and the Grimms' versions of the tale, while adding creative touches too. The Elf – a character inspired by a briefly-mentioned dwarf in Perrault's version – serves as the chief viewpoint character. At the beginning, he makes so much mischief that the old Master Elf threatens to banish him unless he uses his magic for good instead. He soon sees a chance for a good deed when he finds the Queen yearning for a child; he brews her a potion, resulting in the birth of Princess Rosebud. Eight good fairies are invited to the celebration of her birth, each with a different signature color for her hair, wings, and dress, and who give Rosebud their magical gifts in a dance set to the Garland Waltz from Tchaikovsky's ballet. But the Fairy of Red goes uninvited, because as in the Grimms' version of the tale, there aren't enough golden plates. Of course, the fiery, flamboyant fairy comes anyway, and the Fairy of White has to soften her curse from death to sleep.
Sixteen years later, Rosebud has grown to be an inquisitive maiden, fascinated by the stories her nurse tells her of far-off lands with charming princes... and where strange contraptions called spinning wheels are used to make cloth. In a unique, comic portrayal of the repercussions of the King's ban on spinning, the entire kingdom, including the royal family, is forced to wear old, tattered rags, because no new fabric can be made. When the castle servants finally complain and threaten to quit, the King and Queen set out on a tour of other countries to buy cloth. Unfortunately, the day before they come home, Rosebud is exploring the castle grounds when she finds a mysterious tower, and glimpses an old woman with a spinning wheel inside. That night, when everyone else is asleep (including the Elf, who had promised the Queen he would guard her) Rosebud sneaks back to the tower to meet the old spinner... who of course is the Fairy of Red in disguise.
The next day, the King and Queen come home and are distraught to find their daughter in her enchanted sleep. But the Elf travels with seven-league boots to bring the Fairy of White back to the castle. With almost funny nonchalance, the good Fairy puts every mortal in the kingdom to sleep, then enshrouds the castle with vines to ensnare any would-be intruders – as a hundred years later, several skeletons reveal. When the Prince comes along, traveling in search of a cure for his loneliness and longing, he learns the tale of Rosebud from the now-elderly Elf, but his companions convince him that it must be a trap. Yet just as they ride away, the castle magically appears on their map where it hadn't been before. The Prince gallops back to battle the vines, enter the dark castle, and wake Rosebud with his kiss, restoring life and joy to the kingdom.
In terms of artistry, this Sleeping Beauty is a mixed bag. The budget is fairly low, although the sets and the medieval/Renaissance-era costumes are handsome, and the special effects are decent, but far from sophisticated. The whole production has an air of campy theatricality much like Faerie Tale Theatre, but without the same self-aware humor. Yet flawed though it may be, this is a charming Sleeping Beauty all the same. The starry cast does a fine job with their roles, particularly Kenny Baker's likable Elf and Sylvia Miles's shamelessly hammy evil fairy. Tahnee Welch is a bit stiff and stone-faced as Princess Rosebud, but she compensates with the striking beauty she inherited from her famous mother. And apart from a few corny lyrics, the songs by screenwriter Michael Berz and Max Robert – "Spin, Spin, Spin," "Queen's Lament," "Life Looks Rosier Today," "Rip," "Dare Me," "All to Sleep," "Slumber," and the joyful main theme, "How Good It Is" – are tuneful and endearing.
A perfect film this isn't, but its campy charm, and its nostalgic appeal for those of us who grew up with it, can't be denied.

Miraculous LadyBug Movie and Why I don't Like it
Alright instead of me stalling let’s get right into why I don’t like the Miraculous ladybug movie.
Warning Spoilers ahead!!!!
First let’s start with the obivious that they didn’t let ladybug’s VA sing and instead found someone else to sing for her. Shouldn’t have done that especially when she has a good and wonderful voice.
Second, let’s talk about the songs but also the way the movie was set up. Starting off with song one. The song wasn’t bad and that’s not my problem with the song. My problem with the song has to do with the structure of the movie. The move is supposed to be an origin story for both ladybug and chat noir, but it seems we only get ladybug character development. The song started right by letting us in on ladybug’s character, but it should have jumped to Adrien so we can see what his issue is, but nope all we get is a small scene of him with a cat and suddenly he’s the playful and pun loving chat noir that we all know and love.
That is one of my main issues with the movie (and show) is the fact that we do not get enough character development with Adrien. I am so glad we have that scene. You know the one, the one where Adrien finally stands up to his father, because I’m sorry if everyone likes this Gabriel the facts remain that no matter how much he loves his son he still neglected him. It’s like the show will not let Adrien feel anything unless it’s to do with his feelings for Marinette or ladybug. My proof in this is the two songs that he’s in, in the movie. The first one is fully about his feelings, while the second one ends in him confessing his feelings to ladybug.
It seems to me that the only other time we fully touch on Adrien and his problems with his father is the Christmas special.
Issue two I have with the movie is that to me it doesn’t follow the rules of the universe. So the ending fight between bug, chat, and hawk Chat uses his major power, his cataclysm, but he also uses it again without plagg turning him back and getting a food break. This is just one of the examples I could find, but while I watched the movie I’m pretty confident that I saw more.
Issue three, the orgin story moive does not follow the canon. I know this show goes through a lot, but I expected an orgin story to follow canon. Ladybug and chat noir are not supposed to know who each other are, yet ladybug finds out and at the end and then shows who she is to chat noir or Adrien.
Issue four, if you are not going to follow canon then comit! Do not let them reveal to each other and then cop out on the ending kiss!!! Some of us have been waiting for this for years!!!! But no we can’t have them kiss on screen when they finally know the full truth of each other!
Issue four, How can Hawkmoth just use telekneiss on ladybug’s miraculous? Like I might be an idiot, but that is fully what looked like had happened in the movie.
This is a preference but I hated the ending fight between Hawkmoth and our heroes. I hated it with every fiber in my being. Since it does not follow canon I just can’t accept that this is what happens for their origin story.  It makes me so mad that Hawk moth just stops everything because he learns that chat noir is his son? I just don’t belive that. Maybe it could happen because he’s not so in deep yet, but it’s just not good to me.
Issue five, Marinette having feeling for chat noir. We all know it happens eventually (season five I’m looking at you) but in the show she can barely get a word out to Adrien because she likes him so much. She doesn’t seem to struggle as much in the movie.
How I personally think the movie should have gone is a lot simpler. Keep the musical, it was a really good idea. Let Marinette’s og VA sing for her. Give Adrien some background and let him and Marinette sing back and forth in the opening song so we can see what’s happening on both sides. Have marientte still feel unsure of himself, but also give Adrien a struggle of accepting Plagg and becoming chat noir. Keep Marinette’s duet with Tikki, but Give Adrien and Plagg their own song.
You can keep their partner song if you take out the verse of Marinette falling for Adrien. Have the moive show them both overcoming their struggles and this big battle be them accepting the change they have gone through and then the show can easily pick up on season 1 episode 1.
Show us a more detailed story of Gabriel and Emille. Either give him a song of singing about her, or a backstory duet of the both of them, but remember this is a Gabriel song, not a Hawkmoth song. Keep his song as Hawkmoth because it is really good.
The final battle should have a song as well, of the two finally accepting what they are changing into and how it’s making them better people, along with them maybe fully learning how to fix the mess hawkmoth created (the ending of the movie did this really great, but if you’re going to make a musical then commit!)
Last give an ending song, about how the story isn’t over but it’s just beginning. A good example of this would be The Last Day of Summer from the Percy Jackson Musical. That is a good song that tells you that the story is over for now, but it will continue again in the future.
If you don’t like the musical idea then guess what you can stick with the same concept without the songs! Main thing is making it to where you know the movie can pick up on S1 Ep1 while giving Adrien some actual character development!
Their’s a lot more that I very much dislike about the movie, but unless I put myself through a rewatch of it right away, I’m not going to be able to remember them all. Let me tell you something I liked about the movie.
I loved the animation and thought that it was really good. You can tell that they were given a better budget for the movie and I hope they keep it for the show. If they don’t keep it for the show then maybe the specials they keep releasing on Disney +
I loved Marinette’s character at the beginning and showing how she truly had to go through a few motions to get where she is. I like how at first she wasn’t able to stand up for chole but then she gained the confidence to talk back to her.
I love the songs. I thought that they were all great and gave us awesome visuals, like I said I just think the show is giving Marinette special treatment because she is the main character. Chat noir is not her sidekick he is her partner and thus deserves to have plenty of screen time as well.
Last thing I really like is something I already mentioned, it’s how Adrien stood up to his father. Sorry that I didn’t like many things, but I keep getting my hopes up for this show even when I know I shouldn’t and then things like this happen.

PICK A CARD: What Era Is Your Beauty From?
☯︎ “A man should hear a little music, read a little poetry, and see a fine picture every day of his life, in order that worldly cares may not obliterate the sense of the beautiful which God has implanted in the human soul.” ― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Disclaimer: This is a general reading, take what resonates. I am not suggesting any of these descriptions are cannon to your ancestral history, these are just how my intuition perceived, and then presented your beauty’s energy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
p1 → p2 ↙︎ p3 → p4
🂽 Pile One 🂽 (the devil, 2oC rev., ace of cups rev., 4oW, 3oC, king of swords, the tower, the world)
❖ Pile one, I feel like I’m watching the Game of Thrones out of context. Just flashes of people from around the Medieval 1400s living their day-to-day; singing, dancing, eating together, and then… not.
❖ The imagery I got when I asked what era your beauty came from, was very longing in nature. There was a lot of joy and celebration but it felt like I was watching the film through teary eyes and a heavy heart.
❖ The “movie” flashed between a thriving culture sharing tales of triumph and having happy, drunk sing-song moments together; and then those same people under a war-torn regime of a very cruel but powerful man. I sense themes of religious persecution, nationwide government-forced famine, and general desecration of the once-peaceful way of life. The population was going through collective mourning.
❖ People lamented over their unfulfillable desire to reconnect with their homeland and all of their loved ones. With the World card at the end of the spread and the Empress at the bottom of the deck, I get the clear image that your beauty is the physical embodiment of a large collective’s longing for the sanctity of their community. You invoke that feeling people get when they remember a bitter-sweet memory that hums fervor in their chest and gives them the fire they need to push forward.
❖ Your beauty comes from an era where the genuine smile and cheer of a pretty girl sparked a nation’s hope for reformation. You are the last remaining connection to long-lost celebration and the heart of a forgotten city.
How Do You Paint The Divine Image of Hope?
Tumblr media
🂽 Pile Two 🂽 (7oC rev., 4oP rev., full moon, leo, sacral chakra)
❖ WHOOOAAaaaaa Ammberrr is the collluuhhhhh of ya enneergyyy!! WHOoaaA, shades of gaawwllddd displayyy naturraalllyyyyyy…..
❖ Just know I was HOLLERING that. This is my hippie pile. My people. Yea that’s right, I’m talking the late 1960s - early 1970s.
❖ Your beauty arose at a time when society desperately needed color (specifically seeing some of you wearing a lot of bright colors or eye-catching jewelry or hairstyles). The world was bleak and the war’s aftermath on the overall mental and emotional welfare of the general public pushed people to radical ideals and birthed a revolution centered around liberation, pleasure, and community.
❖ Your beauty is all sunshine and rainbows. Psychedelics and organic food. The best music in human history (feel free to argue with me, but know that it is going straight out the other ear, mama) and week-long outdoor festivals full of peace, love, and vulnerability with total strangers.
❖ Your beauty brushes people with the chilling winds of shameless pleasure. The taste of unadulterated personal freedom that is almost a societal taboo. Your beauty is so purely liberating.
❖ Lmao, I imagine a guitar riff going off everytime you walk into a room.
❖ You are the physical embodiment of eccentric love and vivacious rebellion.
Play That Funky Music
Tumblr media
🂽 Pile Three 🂽 (The lovers rev., the High Priestess rev., Ace of Swords., 4oC. 7)
❖ Revolution is a running theme for all of the piles. This collective’s beauty awakens people.
❖ I’m seeing a brilliant man going mad at the lack of creative intelligence around him and pushing for societal rebirth. A complete cultural shift from the Dark Ages (pile one), to modernity. This is my Renaissance pile.
❖ You embody the mystical fusion of art, religion, architecture, and science. You are all the world’s intrinsic beauty rolled up into one figure. You are the art that attracts painters, inventors, and philosophers alike.
❖ You have the beauty of an all-around muse. You invoke the spirit of creative passion. It is like people see you and get a stroke of inspiration. Something that kicks them in the ass and tells them to go outside and create.
❖ This pile is very romantic. A classical beauty, like red roses and bottle poems. The universal innate desire to dream big.
❖ Shoutout to my Aquarians, 11th housers, and Shatabhisha natives.
The Medieval-Modern Muse
Tumblr media
🂽 Pile Four 🂽 (king of pentacles, 2oP, 5oP rev., 9oP)
❖ OKAY PLOTWIST?? I don’t know what era this pile’s beauty is from because it’s set in the future.
❖ It’s funny how the last piles were all set in periods of revolution (putting in the WORK) and your pile, the final pile, is set in a better world full of financial stability, the end of inequality, economic fairness, and universal abundance (the fruits of the labor).
❖ Dude, I was trying to read the message at first and was just scratching my head. I was like, “When has anywhere, literally ever been this good???” Then I saw the ace of wands reversed at the bottom of the deck and saw impending change and it clicked.
❖ I also saw some star semblance, and see that your beauty is a reminder to mankind that the “impossible” is already set in motion. The hell we have created will crumble.
❖ You are a physical embodiment of society’s future triumph. You radiate wealth and fairness. My Venusians, especially Libra. You also look regal, something about you makes people want to stand taller.
❖ You got the pride card, I see that you give people the feeling of victory. You are living proof of future triumph in a better world where greed and sorrow are eradicated.
❖ You are the harbinger of the next era.

Just like I think the Faerie Tale Theatre version of Sleeping Beauty shows some influence from the 1978 Czech film How to Wake a Princess, I think the Cannon Movie Tales version shows some influence from the 1971 German version.
Both open by showing women happily working at their spinning wheels and singing. Later, after the curse is cast, a grim scene takes place in the same workshop, where the King's soldiers ransack the room and take away all the spinning wheels to be burnt.
The repercussions of the ban on spinning are also dealt with more than in most other adaptations of the tale. Although in the 1971 film, it's handled more darkly and realistically, with women lamenting that they're doomed to poverty because spinning was their source of livelihood and cursing the King. In the Cannon Movie Tales version, it's played for laughs, with the whole kingdom, even the royal family, wearing tattered old clothes because they can't make new fabric.
I love watching all these adaptations in chronological order and seeing how they influence each other!

Day 8 Familiar of Maribat Spooktober 2023
First *** Previous *** Next
Language and cursing is used
2230 Words
~~~~~~~~~~
Six years had passed and Marinette decided it was time to go back to Gotham.
She was taking a break from her designs for a bit and Luka and Jagged asked if she wanted to tour with them for a bit.
And who was she to say no. She loved them both, one was her boyfriend, while the other was his dad (and her pseudo crazy uncle). Gotham was Jagged’s hometown so it made sense for him to stop there on his North American Tour.
So here she was after six years, the cold autumn air was chilly but not too cold yet. The sky just starting to shift into dusk, casting more shadows than usual. She and Luka were walking hand in hand under the giant white oak when she noticed it. The stage, the cannons, the man standing in that horridly tacky green and purple three piece suit.
“Well that’s a familiar sight.” She sighed watching the progression make its way to the park entrance. “Come on. From what I’ve seen the Riddler has toned it down a lot ever since that new guy came in.”
“And how are we to help?” He grinned at her knowingly.
“Please riddles are child’s play.” She waved pulling him along.
“Let’s see, let’s see. You their black and red dye. Answer 3 riddles and the city goes free.”
“Why not.” She shrugged at the rogue.
“Why do zombies never win…”
“At poker?” She finished the riddle. “It’s because they have a tell-tale heart.”
She grinned remembering the grin that was erased from this timeline.
“How did you?” He looked at her quizzically. “Never mind. Walk on the living, they don't even mumble, step on the dead…”
“They mutter and grumble.” She finished again, the familiarity of the situation making her smile. “Leaves, of course. So are you going to give out some new riddles or at least cut the theatrics.”
“You’re a meta aren’t you.” He accused.
“Nope. I’ve just heard them before.” She popped the ‘p’ while tilting her head to the side.
“Here’s the next one.” He started but didn’t get to start it before she interrupted him.
“While some spring forward, I choose to fall back. Come and join me while you sit on a haystack. I may show a movie with a crazed maniac, I will for sure host a festival to give you a heart attack.” She started to laugh as the rogue stood shocked. “Do you only have a limited autumn library, or did I just get the only repeat performance.”
“You’re that little girl.” He stood shocked at this little revelation.
“And I can knock you on your ass again if you’d like.” She smiled.
“It’s not nice to tease him, he is a villain after all.” Luka murmured hugging her.
“Please if I knock him down it would be far softer than if it was the bat.” She pouted loud enough for those who gathered could hear.
“Want to test that theory?” Speak of the devil and he shall appear, Batman.
She tensed slightly, resisting the urge to glare at the ‘hero’ that stood just behind the Riddler. “I wouldn’t want to overstep.”
“Besides we have somewhere to be, Melody, we wouldn’t want to show up after a fight do we.”
She crossed her arms and pouted, puffing out her cheeks.
“I don’t care, but your dad does…” She huffed.
“Are you really that girl?” Riddler still gawked at the two of them, before seeming to make up his mind.
Just like all those years ago he charged her. And just like before she punched him in the nose. Luka let her go and jumped back, knowing she was going to throw him over her shoulder.
“Yup…” The riddler breathed out. “You’re that same girl. But you’re right softer than Bats.”
He laid on his back, not even trying to move.
“Wow!” A new voice shouted from behind her. “You’re tiny! I didn’t think you could actually do it.”
She turned and saw a young boy, maybe 14 or 15. He was in a mask, in a variation of the classic boy wonder suit, a new Robin. Her breath caught and she doesn’t remember how to breathe for a moment.
How could he?!
How could Batman let another child take up the mantle.
She couldn’t believe it, she was horrified, but more so she was livid. She wanted to march up to him and slap him. She turned and there was a tug on her wrist.
“He isn’t worth your anger, love.” Luka hummed, calming her enough that she remembered to breathe.
“Your right.” She shrugged. “Besides if I ever get arrested it isn’t going to be for this.”
She laughed, which he joined into.
“Sorry to interrupt, but we need a quick statement.” A gentleman, drew their attention, the coat, glasses, and the now salted chestnut hair.
“Commissioner Gordon, right?” She smiled at the officer. Sure she ran into him once but that day is in the forefront of her mind at the moment.
“Yes. How did you know?” He blinked.
“An event eerily similar to this one, a few years ago. You drove…” Her eyes started to tear, but she blinked them away quickly.“Jay and I home after.”
A light seemed to blink on and she thinks he recognized her, just as quickly his eyes turned somber.
“You’ve gotten big.” He seemed to sniffle, but she isn’t sure if it was because of the cold or if he knows what happened to Jay. But he shook his head before getting back to his duty. “Right, a statement…”
They gave a statement before turning, well Luka turned her, she assumes it’s because of Batman. She feels his stare on her and it really was starting to fucking piss her off.
“You don’t have to go, Marinette. “
“I know I don’t have to, but it’s important to Jagged.” She sighed before waving a hand. “Besides I only met them once, I doubt they remember.”
“If your sure.” Luka asked her again, to which she nodded.
They grabbed their jackets and walked down to the lobby of their hotel.
“You ready to meet and old friend of mine, you two?” Jagged slung an arm around each of their necks the moment they stepped off the elevator.
“As much as we can be.” She smiled as she and Luka linked their hands, while Penny ushered them outside.
“So how are you liking Gotham, Mari?” Jagged asked her after she was staring out of the window a while.
“I’ve been here before. Everything is familiar but different, you know.” She sighed.
“I get it it’s been too long since I was back here.” Jagged tried to get her to talk but dropped it soon enough.
She never forgot her promise and she is living it. She became one of the newest and popular fashion houses in not just Paris but was starting to gain even more traction internationally. Her personal client list was populated by some of the biggest A-listers including Jagged Stone, Clara Nightingale, Prince Ali, the Tsurugi Family, the Graham de Vanily family, and even the Queen family. She travelled the world to find inspiration, and if she helped s few people with her magical abilities she smiled at their faces. Hell she was named one of the twenty under twenty, the year before for her work with environmental textiles.
Before she knew it the gates of Wayne manor were opening before them. The same intricate iron work she remembered opened into perfectly manicured lawns on either side of the long driveway.
“Jared it’s good to see you.” A cheerful voice called from the doorway, Bruce Wayne.
“Brucie! Ah, your right mate!” Jagged slung an arm around his old friend.
“These must be your boys!”
“This is Dick and Tim.” Bruce smiled placing a hand on each of the two he mentioned. “And are they yours, Jared?”
“My son, Luka, and his sweetheart and my future daughter in law, Marinette.” He waved towards both of them.
“Jagged!” She yelped in embarrassment, but it fell on deaf ears.
“Alfred good to see ya!” Jagged bounce right past the two men and child, towards the eldest gentleman.
Marinette however could feel three sets of eyes on her, and she wanted to scream. Luka tugged on her hand and squeezed, centering her.
“Dinner is ready.” Alfred commanded everyone’s attention, so they made their way to the dining room. They sat down and she tried to avoid eye contact, not really paying attention to the conversation. That is until…
“You look so familiar, we must have met before. Now I remember, Nettie!” Her head snapped up and directly at Dick. “So what have you been up to, Nettie.”
“Please… Please don’t call me that.” She tried to keep her voice level but she knows it is shaking. Her knuckles were turning white as she gripped the napkin in her lap.
“Why not? It’s cute.” The younger boy, Tim, she recalled answered trying to break the tension.
“Because the only person who can call me that is dead.” She got up and started walking out of the room.
“Give her space.” She heard Luka say, probably to Jagged or maybe even the Wayne’s, she isn’t sure.
She was originally going to walk out side but at the last minute she decided to climb the stairs. She only walked this way twice, once when she dumped half of her life’s trauma on this family and the second the morning after.
She turned the handle and it was as if time had frozen. Books piled on the bedside tables. A backpack thrown haphazardly on the desk, notebooks had spilled from it onto the floor. She walked in and sat at the foot of the bed. Model cars, motorcycles, and even engine parts littered the bookshelves. She knows dinner has probably ended but she didn’t move, she wanted to cry, but that feels as if it might be insulting at the moment.
Knock.
Her head snapped from the window, a crescent moon floated low over the trees, towards the door. She doesn’t know who she expected, but it wasn’t Dick, maybe Alfred if she’s honest.
“Room for one more?” He asked quietly. She nodded and walked in, instead of sitting next to her he sat on the ground in front of her. “Im sorry. How? How did you know?”
“It wasn’t like him.” She sighed. “Did you know?”
“Yeah.” He leaned back. “I was so angry with Bruce, he didn’t even tell me I had to find out through the paper.”
She stared at him now. “His death wasn’t in the paper, I was looking for it but it never came. Oh kwamii, please no.”
She covered her mouth, Robin’s death was made public not Jason’s. So if she knows and he knows, the two of them stared at one another.
“Marinette?”
“If Jay was… are you… were you… that means Tim is… so is Bruce… no never mind don’t answer that.” She stood. “Nope. Nope. Nuh-uh!”
She looked at him and he was just staring at her.
“Marinette, how do you know?” He stood and placed a hand on each of her shoulders stopping her from pacing.
“I was there.” Her voice was resolute, staring right at the person who called himself Jay’s brother.
“You saw…” He couldn’t finish his sentence.
“I was angry at you for not telling me, but you didn’t know.”
“Two months, Bruce wouldn’t tell me for two months, and then I snapped.” His eyes turned dark.
“Live.”
“What?” He watched her, pleadingly, as she seemed to pull him from his dark thoughts.
“Live. That was the last thing he said. We were trapped in that warehouse, the bomb, once we noticed it was almost over.” He listened, his grip on her shoulders lessening. “I tried to get us out but the door was stuck, I held him until it exploded. The next second I was back in my apartment before I passed out. I didn’t have enough magic to save us both.”
Tears finally flowed from her, Dick was also crying at this point. They just cried for a while, that is until everyone decided to try and find them. Luka and Alfred were the ones who did.
“I didn’t know.” Dick finally spoke, his voice hoarse, from his tears.
“How could you?” She wiped the last of her tears away.
“We should have said something to you. You were his only friend.”
“Master Dick.” Alfred handed him a handkerchief.
“You truly a Paon, Alfred.” She smiled.
“Tell Jagged I’ll meet you guys back at the hotel, Luka.”
“You better not be planning anything.”
“Me.” She smiled, a glimmer in her eyes. “Never.”
A portal appeared under her and she disappeared.
“Melody.” He called out but he knew she didn’t hear, so he shook his head, a laugh that turned into a grumble. “I better not read about this tomorrow.”
The two others looked at him as if he could explain, but really he doesn’t think he should.
The fact that this man has a miraculous means he can be trusted, but with what he knows he is wary.
She seems to trust both if her song was any indication and they don’t mean to hurt her. But it’s not his secret to tell.
