The Montauk Monster and Friends
What was the Montauk Monster? Or the Panama Creature, the St. Augustine Monster, and the Canvey Island Monster? #cryptozoology
The Montauk Monster refers to an unidentified creature carcass that washed ashore on a beach near the town of Montauk, New York, in July 2008. The creature gained widespread attention due to its bizarre appearance, sparking speculation and debate about its origins. It had a hairless body with sharp teeth, a beak-like structure, and a long tail. Some suggested it could have been a hoax or a…

The Canvey Island Monster [modern urban legend/cryptid]
Canvey Island is a small island in the estuary of the river Thames, in Essex, Great Britain.
In 1953, a strange creature supposedly washed ashore there, and another one in 1954. Reverend Joseph Overs claimed the being resembled a fish with legs, about 4 feet (1.2 m) long. Each of its two feet ended in 5 toes and it had a large mouth and two staring eyes. The fish had a strange fleshy texture that did not resemble regular fish scales at all and was pink or reddish in colour. A group of children spotted the creature on the beach and some of them thought it was some kind of mermaid.
The animal was most likely a monkfish or possibly a seabat (any member of Ogcocephalidae), the latter being a specific family of anglerfish whose fins evolved into leg-like limbs to move on the seafloor. Despite the existence of a perfectly reasonable explanation, the idea of a large pinkish fish creature with a huge mouth and two legs spoke to the public, and the creature quickly became a cryptid.
The interpretation of the creature as a bipedal fish-like cryptid monster gained traction among artists, too.

Multiples of 4 for the weirder asks?
AAH THANKS
4. which cryptyd being do you believe in?
I dunno that I really believe in any? Well, I think the Flatwoods Monster was real but I think it was an owl.
OH and the Canvey Island Monster (a monkfish) also real.
And Gef the Talking Mongoose purely because it'd be hilarious
8. how many water bottles are in your room right now?
None because I drink tea. Water tastes weird and has a strange texture so I never end up drinking it even if it's right next to me.
12. what kind of day is it?
Well, it's night. But today was one of those days where I got a lot done but still ended up stressing about everything I DIDN'T do instead.
16. can you drive?
Yes but not very well and I don't enjoy it
20. do you say soda or pop?
Soda
24. if we were together on a rooftop, what would we be doing?
Spotting constellations, of course! And planets. An any lunar eclipses that might be happening

44. you get a free pass to kill anyone, who is it?
Okay tough call cause there's a lot of people who I think the world would be improved without but I'm gonna say Bezos here I think

Cryptid of the Day: Canvey Island Monster
Description: In November of 1953, a carcass washed ashore Canvey Island, England, described as 2.4ft long, reddish with bulging eyes. A similar carcass also washed ashore on the same island in August of 1954. Popular belief is that the carcasses were misidentified anglerfish.

WEEK 33: CANVEY ISLAND FISH MONSTER
It's Sunday! Time for another action-packed episode of the Crypt-A-Long. It's a lot like the Geek-A-Long from Lattes and Llamas, but devoted to the world's unconfirmed and unlikely beasts in all their wondrous variety. Pop over to the website for patterns and yarn, and come back to my blog once a week for the charts!

Canvey Island in Englad has an unusual claim to fame: in 1953 and 1954, carcasses of bizarre sea creatures kept washing up. These were mostly fishlike, except for what appeared to be a pair of limbs for walking upright. Skeptics suggest an anglerfish or frogfush as the most likely source of the remains. I used an anglerfish as the basis for my version.

Canvey Island Monster Stimboard
(I know this guy technically isn’t a cryptid because it’s probably a monkfish that was described weirdly but it’s one of my faves!)

Lost Tapes is a guilty pleasure of mine. I'm not normally into horror, but this show has a certain charm to it and I like that it focuses on real legends from across the world. The acting and special effects can be cheesy, but that's part of the charm too.
So, I've compiled a list of cryptids and other legends that would make for good episodes if Animal Planet ever decides to reboot the series.
Here's the cryptids and stuff I picked:
Mokele-mbembe
Bunyip
Nessie (as a special, of course)
Phantom Big Cats
Ozark Howler
Ahool
Giant Catfish
Atmospheric Beasts
Burronjor
Canvey Island Monster
Montauk Monster
Passenger Pigeon/Clones (Pretty much Jurassic Park crossed with The Birds. Cloning experiments gone horribly wrong.)
Dragons
The Hidebehind (Would love to see where this creature is taken, considering that it's really good at not being seen)
Flatwoods Monster
Kongamato
Merfolk
Megalodon
Spring Heeled Jack
Murphysboro Mud Monster
Hobkinsville Goblins
Goatman
Loveland Frogmen
Van Meter Monster
U-28 creature (sea monster got hit by a U-boat)
Piasa Bird (I love this legend. There's a big mural of it somewhere near St. Louis.)
Leviathan
Lou Carcolh
Nameless Thing of Berkely Square
Devil of Son Doong Cave
Gambo the sea monster
Crazy Critter of Bald Mountain
Doppelganger
Men in Black (maybe there could be a rivalry between them and the Enigma Corp.)
Shadow People
Headless Horseman
Octosquatch (yes, this is a thing)
What creatures do you think would make interesting episodes in a reboot?

Any irish cryptids? UK cryptids? X
The Dobhar Chu, and The Black Cat of Killakee (though it’s more of a ghost tale, it’s one of my favorites!) are from Ireland. Cù-Sìth, Morag, Kellas Cat,  Am Fear Liath Mòr, Kelpies, and the Loch Awe Monster are Scottish. In Englandthere’s a lot of stuff as a whole.  Bownessie, Shug Monkey, Kent Sea Monster, Spring-Heeled Jack, Beast of Bodmin, Canvey Island Monster, Girt Dog, the Roch Ness Monster, Beast of Dean, Beast of Trowbridge, Beast of Dartmoor, Beast of Exmoor, Black Shuck, Owlman, and Fen Tiger. And that isn’t even everything.

My favorite cryptid is the Canvey Island Monster cause it’s just a dead monkfish that washed up on a beach in like the 1940s and everyone flipped out cause they didn’t know what a monkfish was
