Thylacines are considered cryptids because, though they are extinct, people do claim to see them alive in the wild to this day. Every year there are photographs, videos, and sightings of thylacines. Other animals like this are the Ivory-Billed Woodpecker and the Passenger Pigeon!

Who is going around saying JC would have raised A-Yuan better?!

Can they not read? Have they hit their head and are concussed? Do they need medical assistance?!

There is so much wrong with this whole scenario I don't even know where to begin!

Let's start with the fact that JC is the reason A-Yuan has no living relatives left…

That JC actually brought a horde of blood thirsty people to where the child was living, totally unperturbed by the fact an innocent toddler would most certainly die. People think A-Yuan should live with the guy that did that?

JC hates all the Wens, even those who were innocent and not only helped save him, but secured his parents' remains for him! He abuses his own nephew, slapping him around and making him feel unworthy. If he does that to his own flesh and blood, what type of life would A-Yuan have had if in some skewed, illogical alternative universe where JC actually had a heart and not only actively spared the toddler but raised him himself?!

What an awful upbringing the poor child would have had. He's already lost everyone, why are some intent on making him suffer any more?!

LWJ did an absolutely incredible job raising A-Yuan. WWX is not only instantly drawn towards the boy but he has nothing but praise for whoever raised him! As opposed to his impression of JL, where he ponders why the boy has turned out so arrogant, ill-tempered and brimming with hostility - much like his uncle and father.

Just look at the evidence!

LSZ is a well adjusted, kind, caring, smart young man who gets on with others and has great cultivation and leadership skills. Whereas JL, harbours so much unnecessary pain and resentment in his heart thanks to JC outright lying about the circumstances around his mother's death, encouraging him to embrace the hatred within him instead. JL puts himself in danger and does not care about dying as long as he's able to prove his worth and abilities to JC. Not to mention how lonely the poor kid is. It's heartbreaking to see what has become of JYLs baby - and this is with the boy only living with his uncle half of the time!!

Thankfully WWX is trying his best to rectify these issues and JL is showing promise due to the influence of WWX, LWJ and the other juniors.

I honestly don't know how LSZ could be any better than he already is in canon. Whoever stated this is utterly delusional and doesn't understand the plot or characters at all.

First impression:

The minute I saw this scene

I knew I would love him. Any character that wear's an outfit that nice while murdering people with a fan and drinking from a flask? That's a guy who is tailor made to catch my attention lol

Impression now: I LOVE HIM IMMENSELY. I can (and have) yelled a lot about WKX.

Favorite moment:

I have a few but the one that comes to mind first is WKX 'let's-fuck-around-and-find-out' breakdown post Four Sages of Anji deaths (and the subsequent wenzhou break-up that resulted in drunk pining. Excellent storytelling lol).

Idea for a story: I've always been fascinated by the idea of wenzhou meeting pre-canon in TYK but I've never really thought about WKX and ZZS meeting again in WOH prior to ZZS leaving Tian Chuang. What would that look like considering their past history? Would they recognize each other? Would they pretend not to? (Does WKX try to take out Jin Wang?)

Unpopular opinion: In show - I don't really like that he doesn't communicate with ZZS the way he does in the novel. Him hiding so much only led to more and more problems as the story progressed. In fandom - I have beef with fics where he basically reads like WWX. They have vastly different personalities and life circumstances. WKX is putting on an act when he first meets ZZS. Some of it is real but most of it is exaggerated. WWX is just like that lol.

Favorite relationship: WENZHOU 5EVER & EVER. (honorable mention to hanwenzhou but only if WKX gets to lovingly bully the fuck out of HY).

Favorite headcanon: WKX is a light sleeper and prone to wandering around at night, doing random odd chores until he gets tired again (or ZZS comes to get him back to bed).

Okay so I took some time to get back to you about this nonny sorry! The thing about Wen Qing's name is that.... as far as I know it's not actually all that complex?

The 温 (Wen) of Wen Qing is often translated as 'lukewarm' but as a noun means 'temperature' and is loosely related to 瘟 which has to do with 'pestilence, acute infectious disease' and as a verb can also mean 'to recollect, to recall' or 'to review, to revise.'

The 情 (Qing) of Wen Qing is often translated as 'feelings' or 'sentiment' but can also mean 'love' or 'favor, kindness' as well as 'condition, situation, circumstance.'

However, 温情 together tends to mean 'soft hearted, tender, compassionate.' There's no particular line of poetry this is harkening back to, or specific seminal text that this is linked to. I suspect the reason she's called Wen Qing is because in the novel, she's introduced in the scene where WN has brought WWX and JC back to the supervisory office in Yiling and she leads with a pretty blunt, chiding manner there, and the fact that her name is 'Wen Qing' is meant to clue the reader into her kindness, compassion, and overall tenderness despite being introduced to her in a slightly more antagonistic scene.

I suspect that this is why you haven't seen much meta about her name previously, nonny! It's interesting, but pretty straightforward.

re: your post about jin guangshan: i think examining him in the way you've described really highlights the absolute horrors of the gentry in the mdzs world. because to examine WHY he is the way he is highlights a society that has absolutely no interest in reigning in the desires of its nobility. jin guangshan is the end point of that, and wen ruohan is as well; the difference is that they exercise this in different ways. jin guangshan attacks the vulnerable largely on an individual and interpersonal basis, using and discarding individual people; wen ruohan attacks the vulnerable largely on a more collective basis, conquering sects and families. they both want power, they just have different methods of obtaining it. and the other members of nobility have very few methods through which they can curb this behavior, outside of an all out war!

jin guangshan and wen ruohan must have been children, once; i doubt they ever experienced any kind of deprivation or guidance and the environments of jinlintai and nightless city's upper nobility likely only exacerbated that. i don't think it's a coincidence that the characters who likely grew up with the most power and privilege, and who exercised this in the most destructive ways, are killed by the guy who arguably experienced the Least power and privilege in his early life!!!! of course jgy would be the one to kill them both!!!!!

wip ask game! Qingchengxian?

This came from a combination of me and my pal AO3 user sugar_shoal talking about how there's not enough qingchengxian content in the world + this post positing a modern ChengQing AU where Jiang Cheng marries Wen Qing for EMINENTLY PRACTICAL REASONS i.e. taking care of A'Yuan.

In my version of this chengxian are already together + cohabitating so JC's spur of the moment marriage proposal upends the status quo.

"You'd do the same," he mutters, knowing the back of his neck is reddening. "Maybe," Wei Wuxian says, voice turning serious. "But I didn't think of it. Thank you." He presses a kiss to Jiang Cheng's neck. "Though I'll miss you when you move into your bridal suite," he adds lightly, then laughs and ducks away when Jiang Cheng aims an elbow at his gut. "Fuck off, who said I'm going anywhere?" Jiang Cheng turns away from the door to follow Wei Wuxian back into the living room. "Come on, does this look like a place you can plausibly live with a wife and child?"

Number 15? I just recently got the Larousse World Folklore Dictionary and the Monsters and Mythical Creatures by Heather Frigiola for Christmas and I absolutely adore them! I was also wondering if you had any book suggestions for any cryptid collectors out there

15. Do you have a favorite cryptozoology book?

Of course! I can certainly give you book suggestions. I love collecting cryptozoology books. My favorite one is The Beast of Gevaudan by Abbe Pierre Pourcher because it's about my special interest in cryptozoology. It's full of incredible records about the hunts and attacks during The Beast's reign of terror in France.

But as for other books? Of course I have to give a shout out to books written by my friends!

Check out Crawlers: A Conclusive Casebook by Nathaniel Brislin which is chock full of information about creatures like the Dover Demon and The Rake.

Tobias and Emily Wayland of The Singular Fortean Society have a few books out. One of my favorites is The Lake Michigan Mothman: High Strangeness in the Midwest which is one of Tobias' areas of expertise. He was even on TV as an expert in the Lake Michigan Mothman cases!

Adam Benedict of The Pine Barrens Institute has quite a few books as well! He specializes in collections of oddities and the supernatural from history. He has a book about cryptozoology called Monsters In Print: A Collection of Curious Creatures Known Mostly from Newspapers that's really interesting.

i can definitely do redders for ya! JT i don't know too much about. i know he has some controversies, but that ain't my business lol. i appreciate how he made franko feel and i'm intersted in how the 2 of them have taken different paths both about how they act toward each other and how they talk about roman abramovich post-ukraine war 😂 (would love to hear more about how he corrupted grealo.) BUT. jamie i've got a lot more to say about.

i feel like if you read jamie's odd autobiography and then think of him through that lens, he's a real diamond in the rough of a fascinating footballer. he seems kinda brainless and vapid but i think some of that is because he has too much going on in his brain to use it for that sort of thought. i don't even mean that as a diss. that's a real thing!!! but let's see...

favorite thing about them: well, he certainly seems unpretentious and easy to talk to, which i like. has some good taste in music, is still close to his parents, always takes franko's side and defends him 😂

so, this next part seems like a weird thing to list as a "favorite," as i'm sad he suffers or has suffered in this way, but out of all the things i've read about mental health, both fiction and non-fiction, jamie's book described some of my specific childhood/teenage Horrors so well it was like i wrote it and i was so surprised that he went through all that and admitted it so unselfconsciously. that combination of talented kid with an idyllic life (this was me, albeit in other ways than jamie lol) who lives in this private world of pure fear. some of the things he mentions, like having to paint his room cheerful yellow to ward off Bad Thoughts and Scary things, and being so afraid when he saw the exorcist as a teenager that he slept with the lights on and couldn't get the movie out of his head for weeks--the isolating strength of these kinds of fears is sooooo fuckin real man. he also describes needing to watch the same movie every day for comfort when he got home from school where he got bullied and teased for being a little different, and his attachments to his toys that he'd have to do little rituals with every day to help him feel Calm, and how he took them to school to try to make friends and kids stole them :( he also describes his older self as having something Dark inside him, like when his close friends would become occupied with a girlfriend, he'd kind of freak out and try to get in the way, because he was afraid of losing their support.

his book also describes very sinister perceptions of the external world too, a lot of kind of scary or just ominous scenarios drift through the book (a creep that tried to grab him in the park, the scary, dark corridors under dean court stadium when his Daddy was in charge of bournemouth--i related to that too--, rumors of some weird creep working at tottenham when they wanted to sign young him?)

i apologize if this is repetitive to anyone reading but i had some very particular Problems as a kid and i've just never seen some of them articulated the way jamie articulates them. and i just found all this so...fascinating. i think it explains a lot about his adult self and provides such a contrast between him and brainy franko (see headcanons section!)

least favorite thing about them: he cut his hair and has a beard! i'm predictable--if a footballer had long hair and now doesn't, this will be my response. otherwise, what's there really to dislike? he's kind of inoffensive imho

random headcanon: so many! lampardverse is sort of all about Jamie in a sense, and i think as a child Jamie so very much appreciated the solid steady presence of his younger cousin. franko's psychological issues are of a very different nature lol, plus we know he's a master of repression (can relate) and we imagine that he'd help jamie with his homework and read him chapters of the narnia book, and eat the food jamie refused to eat.

another one is that jamie is super dependent on his Well-Known Dad. they do a lot of stuff together and idk on ALOTO one of the main purposes seems to get jamie overwhelmed and stressed--because he gets like that very easily--so it feels like Uncle Harry's presence is just. very necessary for him.

For the ask game: If you ship it at all, I'd love your take on Wen Ning/Jiang Cheng. I personally think that WN telling him the truth would move WN to the "possibly trustworthy??? review later" pile of people and the "unwilling recipient of WWX's unilateral decisions" list, and that their shared hobby of being worried about the juniors would afford JC the chance to observe WN.

Anyway, I love the political fantasy of For What, For All But Myself so much. And I love JC's confusion about LXC's letters. And everything else!

As a general rule I go along with most ships - I can't really think of one I'd actively avoid, it depends on the story whether I'll read it or not.

That being said, I'm not big on NingCheng - but some fics have convinced me it might be doable, but usually in Modern AUs or where things are completely different from the start. In those cases I can see it working out, two younger siblings bonding over over bearing older siblings, or being in the same class and JC not liking WN being bullied/WN being nice to JC when he's having a rough time - sure, I've no objections. Them pairing up in canon, or after canon, I struggle to see how it happens.

The thing for me about the GC reveal is WN went out of his way to be as callous and cruel as possible, knowing he was definitely going to hurt JC badly, and I think he enjoyed it in the moment. Maybe he started to feel bad later, but in the moment I think he enjoyed getting to do that to someone he doesn't like.

I just can't see how JC moves past that. He might accept that JL is sorta safe around him, he might let WN into LP to appease WWX, but I struggle to see how he gets from the soul wrenching anger and hate he feels to anything more positive.

To lean into my own version of them, I have tried and tried to make them make peace in the Burn Series that For What is a part of, and every time JC either starts yelling or runs away. He doesn't feel safe around WN, because WN not only killed JZX and could be taken over again and used as a weapon, he's shown himself to be vicious and poisonous with his words when he wants to be. And don't forget, WN saw what the Wen did to JC, he watched it all, and JC is absolutely terrified that one day WN will decide that he doesn't feel like keeping that secret anymore. If he could spill his beloved Wei-gongzi's secret to hurt JC, he would surely think nothing of spilling JC's to hurt him.

It's a clash between JC's observations that WN will protect the juniors, will protect WWX, the understanding that WN was also a victim of WWX's choices, that WN saved him and got his parents bodies back, and his deep seated fear of WN's knowledge, his hatred of him for being the ones WWX chose, and the unforgettable mental and emotional scar that was the reveal.

As the series stands I can't see them ever getting along, it's more teeth gritting silence on both sides for the sake of the others. But you never know, I might get them to coolly courteous one day!

joshua -> air bender, silly and whimisical but also can be very scary

wonwoo -> firebender, am i in love with zuko? do i see some of the same characteristics in zuko and wonwoo? yes and yes (handsome, awkward, funny on accident). mr. smolder

soonyoung -> air bender, obsessed with flying. epitome of knocked down ten times get up eleven and have fun doing it

jihoon -> earth bender or water bender, can't decide. jihoon reminds me of the ocean, a lot more underneath than you can see on the surface. but i also see earth bender bc he's reliable

seokmin -> water bender. heals me every time i look at him.

mingyu -> earth bender (back bender) ANYWAY

minghao -> water bender, water is a v calming element for me and i think hao fits

I recently saw a post (askSythe on here) about the significance of the blood pool and how throwing bodies in there removes them from the reincarnation cycle and that's what the clans did to the Wen Remnants and JC is rumored to have led this siege and my heart HURTS. continuing this in next ask -

As for the post you are referencing, I had not come across this until you mentioned it in your ask and have since went in search of it in order to reply. From what I can gather from the notes, it seems to have garnered a lot of controversy and subsequent backlash against the person who posted it originally.

I don't want to criticise other people's posts (especially when they have already received so much negativity from it), but with all due respect, I don't feel this was MXTXs intention with the blood pool. There's no mention of it in any version I have and I've also had my friend check the entire original novel for the phrase '永不超生', which is quoted in the original post, and we can't locate that in the Chinese text either. Regardless of that, I don't feel such a claim fits with the rest of the novel.

I could be completely wrong, as it's not something I've really thought about, nor do I have the cultural knowledge of the specific concept the original post is referring to. But, if the Wen remnants were forever barred from reincarnating due to their corpses being thrown into and essentially trapped in an apparent 'unbreakable prison' (which they managed to escape), why would WWX set an array around the blood pool to stop corpses escaping when he lived there back in his first life? 🤔 How were all the corpses able to crawl out and run amok the minute a rampaging WN broke the seal around the pool? It just doesn't make much sense to do that if the fierce corpses residing within are already trapped there.

There's also the fact WWX uses the blood pool as well. Which makes me question this theory even more so. It goes against WWX's character and ethics to stop souls from reincarnating, when his very cultivation method involves empathy and 'spending' resentment so the entities can move on. Granted, WWX used the blood pool to nurture corpses resentment so he was able to harness it and direct it where required - in this case, I think it's most likely to replenish those guarding the base of the burial mounds and keeping the Wen remnants safe. In theory, the corpses residing there would eventually use up their resentment and their souls would move on. Hence the need for a supply of new fierce corpses he can utilise - which he helps move on in turn. I really don't think WWX would do such a thing if the blood pool was anything other than a collection of water that held strong resentment due to being contaminated by the many corpses already present in its depths. If anything, it's a similar situation to when he found the sword in the Xuanwu of Slaughter's stomach, which had been practically marinating in all the resentment of the beast's past victims.

Obviously the Wen remnants were unable to move on after being mercilessly slaughtered, but that is simply because they were denied a proper burial and unjustly murdered in what was a most violent, unprovoked attack. Once the blood corpses had spent their lingering resentment, saving the very people who had killed them and the man who tried so hard to protect them, they finally moved on and turned to ash - which WN promptly collected to ensure they could finally be put to rest respectfully, as they should have been long ago. I see no indication that they would not move on because they were left in the blood pool specifically.

Of course, the way the cultivators involved in the siege not only murdered innocent people, but then treated their victims corpses with such disgusting disrespect is utterly appalling. Even though there is no evidence that the blood pool acted as a type of supernatural prison of sorts, it does not subtract from what the cultivators did. They still made sure the Wen remnants could not rest in peace by their heartless actions regardless.

As for JCs involvement in the siege, it's not actually a rumour that he led the siege, he most certainly, unequivocally did. It's actually outright stated a few times in the novel. Even when WN mentioned as such, WWX did not correct him on that specific accusation. Later still JGY also mentions JCs involvement, right in front of the man in question no less, with no argument to the contrary. Finally, MXTX has also spoken about JCs involvement in leading the siege and confirmed he had indeed formulated a plan based on WWX's weaknesses, as the text suggests. He was very much the driving force of the whole thing, despite knowing the Wen remnants consisted of innocent people who were either weak, old, or a toddler. He is responsible for many people being brutally murdered and shows no remorse for it either - which speaks volumes about his character.
