Challenge Seven Week Practice Procreate - Change Procrastination

It was a challenge about self deficiency and learning. Procrastination and how to get things done more efficiently is an enormous barrier for me. A lot of good ideas are not captured with a drawing. Regrettably, I have had many opportunities that have been missed because of these obstacles.

The missed opportunity made me realise that I should change my past behaviour. To make up for the ideas I reckoned and putting off - starting with learning to use Procreate. So I set myself a goal to improve my drawing skills in 7 weeks and to eliminate my procrastination habits as much as possible.

Ipad - for me, the first impression should be that it is a tool to improve productivity. I'm sure most consumers bought it for productivity or convenience. But the fact is that most people around me buy an iPad and use it for the following purposes - watching TV, surfing the internet, playing games or reading social media. Several factors have influenced the reduction from high MAO to Low MAO (Anthony, 2022).

Problem and empathy:

First of all, my blog describes the actual state of the day in which I did the drawing challenge. And I use text and images to explain the results of the day. They are visually exposed at the same time. Positive and negative attitudes, such as being busy and spending more miniature time painting to complete my challenge. This creates a sense of empathy with the reader and stimulates. Also, blog posts can trigger the identification of problems (Anthony, 2022). Encouraging us to be dissatisfied with the weaknesses and ego that we are currently facing. Raising the expectation of being able to change the status of our current problems.

Increasing MAO：

Resource influence from social influences can affect behaviour, and normative influence positively impacts this area (Anthony, 2022). Tumblr - as a platform for me to post challenges - is cohesive and a similarity. People with similar interests come together to encourage and advise each other. There are also a lot of professionals who offer and share their tips.

My intention was to post on social media. Documenting and sharing the process of painting with procreate, the barriers encountered and the results. Through the posted content, I hope to influence and be able to change the thoughts and attitudes and motivations of people facing the same problems. Increasing motivation, abilities and opportunities. It's more about being in control of the limited time we have, using the resources we have and not using the excuse of being busy and not having the time or being lazy (Anthony, 2022). Tumblr also has a lot of work by famous painters, which is a credible communication source. It helps us develop an attitude and a goal - "I'll be like that in the future". This outcome must be beneficial and reinforced; learning new skills and paintings are the rewards. (Anthony, 2022).

Recirculation:

I choose the same period to post all my blogs; it is a principle I have set for myself. Recirculating the same tasks, long-term memories and firm perceptions are habitually interconnected with behaviour (Anthony, 2022). A conditioned response is formed, such as starting something at a fixed time (Anthony, 2022).

Raising needs:

I found that I raised my need for the iPad over many challenges. From a physiological condition - to a tool to meet daily tasks. It rises to a Self-actualization - I can be creative and draw what I want (Maslow, 1962).

Looking back at all my challenges and looking through many drawing bloggers. Perhaps sharing an entire painting process (video) would be more effective in attracting attention. In terms of the content of my paintings, I tend to lean towards what women would like. The content is a bit stereotypical, and I should try more subjects.

This experience has not entirely eliminated my procrastination habits, but I did manage my time better. A sense of pride in completing my mission. I improved my painting technique and painting personality, but I also discovered how to tap into and retain my creative ideas and soul. I look at my thoughts and manage my time and tasks differently.

It's tough to change a bad habit; what if I did it differently. Not change but develop another good practice or interest to replace the bad habit. Everything is challenging initially, but the difficulties will disappear once you start and stay with it. The most important thing is to change your attitude on your behaviour.

Boosted by fertilizers, Brazil/Canada bilateral trade breaking records

Another record year for Brazil/Canada bilateral trade. Between January and September of this year, the trade flow – which represents the sum of imports and exports – totaled US$ (FOB) 8.223 billion, surpassing the US$ (FOB) 7.497 billion accumulated in the 12 months of 2021.

According to data from Quick Trade Facts of the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce (CCBC), new business deals and a significant increase in fertilizer purchases by Brazil, which accounted for 76% of all fertilizer imports, were outstanding, helped by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

The lowest trade level in the last decade was seen in 2016 when it stood at US$ 4.2 billion. Since then, however, the results have become more solid, indicating a greater complementation of the two economies in the following years.

The total US$ (FOB) 8.223 billion in bilateral trade reached, represents an increase of 62.5% compared to the US$ (FOB) 5.05 billion registered in the same period last year. However, the trade balance result in the first nine months of the year was negative for Brazil by US$ (FOB) 333.7 million, because of the increase in imports.

NaNoWriMo x YAP: Every Story Matters

At NaNoWriMo, we believe in the transformational power of creativity. That’s why we team up with other organizations who help share stories and empower writers. Today, Brooke Shannon at Young Authors Publishing, a children’s and young adult book publisher, talk about their work producing diverse and culturally relevant children’s books, and why that work is so important: 

Stories are the creative basis of human connection. They encourage organic artistry, form culturally-shifting conversation, and expose the beauties and tragedies of society. Wouldn’t it be important for stories to share the intricacies of various forms of identity (e.g., race, gender, class, ability, age)? Absolutely. Then, is this common practice within the publishing industry? Well, let’s take a look at some statistics. 

A 2022 report by Zippia showed that, in the United States, the common ethnicity of authors is White (79.4%), followed by Hispanic/Latinx (7.2%), Black or African American (5.8%), and Asian (4%). More specifically, a 2020 CCBC study researched children’s books and reported the following: “12.1% of children’s books… featured a [Black]/African main character and 7.6% were written by a [Black]/African author.” Additionally, there was a 23% decrease in children’s bestsellers that have Black main characters, according to WordsRated. While the lack of representation is evident, the importance of creating space for diverse stories is not lessened.

To further promote diverse literature, we’ve partnered with NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that assists writers’ manuscript development. Every November, NaNoWriMo hosts the following challenge: draft an entire novel in one month. And through their Young Writers Program, under-18 writers and K-12 educators are able to participate in the event and let their imagination take over. By partnering with Black and Brown publishers, such as Young Authors Publishing (YAP), this NaNoWriMo program, and others, ensures that underrepresented young writers have an avenue to share both their stories and their voices. Youth can read stories, write stories, and publish stories that reflect the reality of their existence and identity. 

Similar to NaNoWriMo, Young Authors Publishing hosts a four-month “Experience Program.” Starting in January of each year, young authors are paired with trained writing mentors to help them conceptualize and write their own children’s books. Once manuscripts are finalized, young authors attend workshops that focus on the fundamentals of financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and public speaking. Through this program, Young Authors Publishing empower young authors to use their words to change the dialogue around representation in literature. And the stories curated from this experience mirror YAP’s mission: to publish books for children and young adults that reflect the diversity of this world. 

As NaNoWriMo states on their homepage, “Every story matters.” And the responsibility is on us–publishers, organizations, educators, etc–to generate writing communities and literature that reflects the diversity of the world. Only then can young readers truly experience the rewards of implementing diversity, equity, and inclusion in both publishing and literary spaces. 

Young Authors Publishing is a children’s and young adult book publisher that exists to share the stories of Black & Brown children. They believe that all kids are story-worthy and should see themselves reflected in the books they read. Publishing books that reflect how diverse the world is, their two-part mission is to produce culturally relevant children’s books and to use book publishing as a vehicle for economic mobility for their young authors.

VIZUÁLNÍ IDENTITA U STUDÁNKY POZNÁNÍ

Hravá i něžná vizuální identita pro projekt U studánky poznání organizace CCBC byla snovým projektem, který jsem měla možnost realizovat a také sledovat, jak se fyzicky zhmotňuje před očima. 

Logo a vizuální prvky měly pro nově vznikající vzdělávací centrum na Letné zachycovat napojení na přírodu skrze vědu i smysly. Místo, které obejme, rozšíří obzory, ale i zabaví. 

Název centra je inspirovaný nejen rohem ulice U studánky, na které sídlí. Studnu poznání, studnu života, živly... To všechno jsem se snažila do loga promítnout. Místo jsem do vizuální identity propsala také základní barvou - pomněnkovou, jak jsme si ji nazvali. Tu jsem si půjčila z charakteristických oken a dveří domu, kde centrum sídlí a tak se mi podařilo vizuál napojit i na samotný prostor. 

Po dlouhé přípravě vzniklo logo, které nápadně připomíná jin a jang, harmonii a provázanost přírody, dualitu živočišné a rostlinné říše. V tomto vizuálně jsem taky navrhla design webu a půl roku ho proklesluji taky do dalších tištěných materiálů, které najdete v centru. Je překrásné sledovat, jak se naše studánka plní dětmi i dospělými.

This was a hectic week as it was almost time for many assignments for DDL. I took the time to draw a bit before going to bed after the group work. The results were just so-so. I guess it's better if I have enough time to draw.
