I want to see JM DeMattis write a story telling the story of Arnie Roth's first real love- the Chassidic boy we see Steve save in the new Captain America comic run. It would be a story similar to Chaim Potok's 'The Chosen'- two Jewish boys from different worlds trying to figure it all out in Brooklyn under the shadow of war. They don't get a fairytale happy ending. The Chassidic boy ends up getting married, and Arnie goes off to fight in WW2, but it would be a bittersweet little story for the times they do have together.

Art is order. But order is not necessarily just, kind, or beautiful. Order may be arbitrary, harsh, and cruel. Art has nothing to do with morality... The artist makes art not to save humankind but to save himself.
Camille Paglia, Sexual Personae (1991) | Chapter 1. “Sex and Violence, or Nature and Art”. Maximum Asher Lev.

Reading Chaim Potok’s The Promise and came across this paragraph and now I have to stare at a wall
Tumblr media
“I will have to dust off my caftan and practice some dances and songs. It's been a long time." "Yes," Danny said, suddenly serious. "For you. But it's my world, best friend. And I haven't seen anything outside that's better." "Nothing?" I said. "Nothing I can't use and still stay inside."
yes ik this book isn’t actually about being gay and staying religious but…
