A mock advertisement in National Lampoon magazine showed a floating Volkswagen Beetle, itself a parody of a Volkswagen advertisement, showing that the vehicle's underside was so well sealed that it would float on water, but with the caption, "If Ted Kennedy drove a Volkswagen, he'd be President today." The satire resulted in legal action by Volkswagen, claiming unauthorized use of its trademark; the matter was later settled out of court.

i have caved in after years and watched a few clips from succession, to my great shame, and i'll say i'm never getting into it because the only two historical references I could spot were chappaquiddick and I think some callbacks to Bush v. Gore and if the writers deliberately included those they very probably had the political knowledge to include more, except I don't have the knowledge to spot more and watching stuff I don't have the tools to fully understand drives me crazy so see you in 10 years once I am an expert in american political history

also the characters are entertaining but so fcking horrible I cannot find it in me to enjoy them

The Chappaquiddick incident occurred on the island in Massachusetts of the same name some time around midnight between July 18 & 19, 1969, when Senator Edward M. "Ted" Kennedy negligently drove his car off a narrow bridge, causing it to overturn in a tidal pond. This resulted in the drowning death of his 28-year-old passenger Mary Jo Kopechne, who was trapped inside the vehicle.
