there was an alarmingly still house finch on one of our feeders today who didn't fly away with the rest of his friends even after i approached and spoke gently to him—i couldn't quite make out his face at that angle/in that lighting, but i'm pretty sure he had some sort of eye crust going on, which could be either conjunctivitis or avian pox, both of which can cause blindness and put him at risk of predation or starvation :/

i went to get my phone to see if i could get a better look through the camera zoom, and when i approached the second time he flew away into a nearby tree—fairly confidently, too—so he must have at least some functional vision? but he was clearly not well beforehand, just lying in the little tray jutting out from the feeder slowly eating seed and not reacting to me until he'd stored up some energy. i can only hope his case is mild enough that it doesn't progress any farther and he's able to keep feeding himself and staying out of harm's reach ;___; unfortunately having a visibly unwell birb visitor means i really need to take the feeders down for a thorough disinfecting + leave them down for at least a few days to encourage everyone to disperse for a bit, which is probably only going to make it harder for him to stay fed if he's not well enough to forage on his own

and i know it's for the safety of all our vulnerable bird visitors but i'm also going to be so depressed not having the feeders up 🫠 looking out the window and seeing birds at all hours of the day is truly the Backbone of My Mental Health, and if our usual visitors leave for good and don't come back once the feeders are back up i will actually be Distraught

Month 8 day 5, supposedly. Idk, it's after midnight, I'm am the sleepy tireds, and I arted so hard tonight my iPad died :D Just the battery, my baby is charging now, but still. 0% battery in the middle of me erasing a line. Very rude.

Anyway, I tried to get Cuff looking more like his beautiful canonical self (with exactly zero reference because there's something wrong with me). Also cleaned up the colors on Frey so they actually filled in the lines and didn't bleed over, not to mention getting her to look more canonical, too.

Unfortunately (fortunately?) because I'm redoing the colors to be tighter and cleaner, and also redrew Cuff and the hand he's on, I'm gonna need to redo ALL of the shading. All of it. ohgodhelp

Pre-birbday bath

This week we moved out of our post-fire rental and into my parents' new home. That means that Chi Chi has moved from the store to our home in Osaka, from there to Tokyo for a day, New York City for quarantine, Seattle for a weekend, Denver, and now to our new home, all before he's even a year old. That's a lot of travel for a little beep and he didn't even seem to care, as long as he gets free time and to steal our water 💧
