Objectively the plot of “my senile dad is a serial killer and I have to deal with him and his homocidal urges alongside his general demanding elderly man shit” is so fucking surreal that it completely HILARIOUS

MWW Artwork of the Day (6/17/21) Jacques-Émile Blanche (French, 1861–1942) Portrait of Marcel Proust at Age 21 (1892) Oil on canvas, 73.5 x 60.5 cm. Musée d'Orsay, Paris
Jacques-Emile Blanche, an admired portraitist in the 1880s, portrayed Proust as a young man, aged 21, when he was still only a social chronicler. The young dandy is presented in a front view, in a hieratic pose (the painting was probably originally a full-length portrait). The contrast between the very dark tones of his suit and the background and the flesh-coloured face and collar, toning with the white orchid in his buttonhole, is particularly striking. The sharp outlines, the fluid paint, and the delicate strokes bring out a sense of inner feelings. Young Proust with his great dark eyes and sensual mouth is already a little more than a dandy: the perfect oval of his face and the pallor of his complexion give him a grave almost Christ like look. That probably explains why this portrait has remained the best-known and most accurate representation of the man who was not yet the author of "Remembrance of Things Past." Proust kept this painting until he died in 1922. (translated from the Musée website)

The thick eyelashes and eyebrows give a more expressive about to him, where the colour and the shape of his eyes alone could come off as pretty intimidating. HAIR COLOUR + STYLE Copper red, shaved short. A remembrance of when he was a soldier... "and Beznă's guinea pig". DOMINANT HAND Right-handed. After the experimentation, he has become confident in carrying out most tasks using his non-dominant hand as well. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES A scar crossing his left cheek, it reaches the base of his jaw. ACCENT + INTENSITY He does have an accent, but it will not sound so to the ear of any people that don't speak Romanian. TATTOO(S) On his left wrist: Prototip AE92890. He was marked so during his detention time at Beznă's research centre in Siberia. SCAR(S) See above. He has minor scars and marks all over his body, given the life he has conducted first as a gamin, second as a soldier and then as a mercenary. PIERCING(S) None. GLASSES None.
PERSONALITY INFORMATION
JUNG TYPE ESTJ. MORAL ALIGNMENT Chaotic Good - Chaotic Neutral. ANGER Prototip is a straight-in-your-face kind of person, so making him angry is more likely than not going to gain you a punch from a genetically-engineered, hot-headed Romanian. Obviously, anger is a broad word: personal threats, misjudgement of his abilities, payment refusal and whatever concerns his personal life is going to get him angry enough to unleash violently. APPROACHABILITY Prototip is not that bad of a guy: yes, he is snarky; yes, he is sassy; yes, he will gently bully you at times; but he is one that people generally don't mind cracking an open one with. INTELLIGENCE TYPE Natural intelligence. IQ~ 85 before Beznă's experiments. 217 after Beznă. DETERIORATION Desire to be valuable (chasing after success). NEURODIVERGENCE(S) PTSD. AT RISK None known.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION

PARENT #2 Oana Lupei, deceased. SIBLING(S) None to his knowledge. His father has 3 other children: Corneliu Diacunescu, Dragoş Diacunescu and Elena Diacunescu. PET(S) None. PRISON TIME? Criminal prison, a total of 2 years. Beznă detainment was 4 years long.
VICES + HABITS
SMOKES? No. DRINKS? Yes. Prototip is an indulgent drinker with a taste for vodka. DRUGS? Yes, but he won't talk about it. It was a thing of his past, a thing he would not go through anymore. VIOLENT? Usually, when not on the battlefield, not. See above. ADDICTION(S)? Alcohol, adrenaline rushes, money (and consequently, working), battlefield. SELF-DESTRUCTIVE? Even if he tried, it would be hard to destroy his self: he has been genetically modified to be more resistant than most to pain, hunger and fatigue. Jokes aside, Prototip respects himself enough not to actively seek out troubling situations. Yes, he indulges in drinking, yes, he has sniffed his fair dose of candy when he was younger, but he strays away from most other destructive activities. HABIT(S) Night owl and early bird at the same time (his body needs only am average of 4 hours of sleep a night), taking a stroll around the streets he knows work is needed, mooching a breakfast from old lady Flora, checking job offers with his squealers. HOBBIES Music, dancing, watching sports, playing basketball. LIKES Aside for anything stated above, Prototip also likes reading classics (it is a display of culture he has always been kept away from given his background and his social condition) and driving motorcycles; he is a proud owner of a Honda Rune that he won't trade for anything good on this earth. DISLIKES Liars, cheaters, unfair people, people that go back on their promises, bad parents, adults violence on children. TIC(S) Neck and knuckles cracking. OBSESSION(S) Knowing what happened the time he spent in Siberia with Beznă agents. COMPULSION(S) Money, financial security, is his biggest compulsion. For Prototip, money buys everything one might possibly need. A life without money is not a life. The fact that he doesn't dislike spending money only aggravates his condition towards richness.

Good Grief #5 - Nicole Carter
I’m Nicole Carter, born in 1975 and now 43 years young, I started writing at the age of 12, my first book was called The Key, measures 10 cm by 7 cm and is 13 pages long.  It was an attempt at writing a fantasy adventure story, where you decide what happens next by choosing which page to turn to next.  It’s epic, and probably still my best work to date ☺  Studying Higher English in 5th year and again in 6th year at High School, my second attempt may not have given me the A grade I wanted, but my teacher was aaaahmazing.  He introduced us to Norman MacCaig’s poetry which continues to inspire me.  My first “proper” recital was at the remembrance service for an ex-boyfriend fellow student, who had very sadly passed away when I was studying Applied Biological Sciences at Napier Uni, in 1998.
Tumblr media
Due to the rollercoaster ride of a life I’ve had since 1995, it took several years before I got involved in writing again.  After another hospital admission, I got involved with the Royal Edinburgh Psychiatric Hospital writer’s group in 2008, and things evolved from there.  My next recital was at a Shore Poets open mic gig in 2010.  I’d previously written some really difficult poems about sexual assault and other traumas I’d faced, and at that first open mic, I was extremely nervous, I was shaking and my voice was quivering.  It was the start of me continuing to use poetry as a means of, what I felt, was a necessary, cathartic compulsion and has grown since then, into me being open about all my hard times, in order to reduce the stigma that surrounds mental health issues, homelessness and abuse.  Essentially, I want to save the world by helping other people to feel more comfortable sharing their stories, so that the fear of these issues, is reduced by creating a better understanding of them.
1. Why, if there was a reason, did you write this poem/these poems?
I try to use poetry as a means of, what I feel, is a necessary, cathartic compulsion which has grown since 2008, when I started going to a psychiatric hospital writers group after another admission.  It has become a real desire for me to be open about all my hard times, in order to reduce the stigma that surrounds mental health issues, homelessness and abuse.
2. Why, upon writing this poem/these poems, did you perform them?
Maybe because since I was a young child, I felt I never had a voice, my father was a violent man but quiet when he wasn’t shouting, there was very little conversation between my parents, as I was growing up.  Reciting my poetry gives me that voice I used to crave and fantasise about, whether or not people actually listen, doesn’t seem to matter to me as much as simply me being able to “exorcise” some inner demons, but often I do try to include some humour in my work.
3. How does performing this piece change how you look at what happened to you?
Aye, ye cannae beat a good rant!!  Not that I do that often, but I really feel it helps me to get stuff off my chest.  Having had regular 2 weekly home visits from CPNs (community psychiatric nurses) for much of my adult life, I realise I’ve actually been very lucky to have that service, and it has enabled me to talk openly and honestly about all the issues that I have, in a safe place with people I am familiar with and trust.  Essentially I’ve had CBT for the past 20 years!!  Lol!!  I’ve come to the conclusion that if getting it all off your chest works for me, then hopefully it will work for other people too, people who don’t have access to CPNs!!!  Wow, it’s all been free too, God bless the NHS!!!
4. How do you separate artistic performance from lived personal experience?
They both make me nervous, and if I’m honest, I don’t like the pre-recital nerves, but, the over-confident, slightly manic, gobby diva in me, has to get an airing occasionally, to keep me sane!!
5. Do you find yourself affected negatively by performing this piece? If so, how do you look after yourself?
General mental health self-care : I talk to and meet with friends and family, eat regularly (every 2 ½ to 3 hours up until 1 ½ hours before going to bed), keep reasonably  hydrated with water (tapering off up until suppertime to make sure I don’t wake up during the night), use mindfulness / breathing / grounding techniques, listen to music, and make sure I get enough sleep, and downtime in quiet places.  I take my *prescribed meds at the right time (8.30pmish as they help me sleep), I also occasionally to moderately do physical activity such as going for a brisk walk / jog / easyish swim or go to the gym, to help me process the fight-or-flight hormones and neurotransmitters.  Seek professional help if I’m seriously struggling.  The Edinburgh Crisis Centre and Mental Health Assessment service at The Royal Edinburgh Hospital are both fantastic.
6. Do you practice any aftercare after performing this piece (either for yourself or audiences)? (E.g., talking to audience members who are upset, taking some time out after your performance to ground yourself, ensuring you perform in places where you feel safe etc.)
I mention there may be triggers, and have reached out to a few acquaintances I’m friends with on facebook, when they post  something that indicates they may be struggling.  I like letting folk know if their work has struck a chord with me.  Also, please see answer to question 5 above.
7. Do you do any content warnings for this piece? Why?
Yes, because I know how being affected by triggers at gigs can be distressing.
8. Does the artist owe any kind of protection or safeguarding to their audience?
Yes.
9. Do you believe writing about areas such as grief, loss or trauma is a form of healthy catharsis or memorialisation?
Yes.
10. What kind of warnings signs would you point out to someone new to poetry or performance who was performing about their traumas?
Loss of appetite, not sleeping enough, serious distress / anxiety, not communicating with friends / family as often as usual,  nervous habits, addictions, lack of personal hygiene (eg. not showering or brushing teeth for several days), not doing housework to the point it feels like it’s too much to deal with, thoughts of self-harm / suicide.

Life is a beach........... One of the most beautiful God's creation is nature, especially the BEACH, from fresh air, wonderful view, peaceful and exciting place is really a complete package for relaxation and vacation. Beautiful, wonderful, relaxing and exciting, these are the words that describes this place, the CM Beach Resort. This place is a really good, and there are a lot of things you can do in this place. This is not the first time I visit the CM Beach Resort, but this is my first time to visit the CM Beach Resort. I was amazed and overwhelmed by the spectacular view, this place is so clean and beautiful, it's not crowded that's why you can hear the sound of the water splashing along the seashore because of the waves. We came to this place because we are celebrating the 4th year anniversary of my uncle's mini restaurant and they decided to celebrate in this place. It was held on October 13 which is Saturday. I almost missed the celebration because I have a make-up class. But I still manage to catch up. It was a long ride, from Mainit to Surigao City, it was worth it because of the amazing view. My sister and I took a pictures as a remembrance. I did not go to swim because I'm really tired that day, but I enjoy watching my cousins swimming. We brought our own food so that if we get hungry we can eat. Aside from the amazing view I also enjoyed the different foods they brought. We all enjoy the celebration. It was past 7 when we decided to go home. I also enjoy the sunset so I took a photo of it. It only last a day but it feels like a week of vacation. This one of the best experience ever. Life is literally a Beach.

Hi There!
I thought I would make it to post my other blog post before this, but I had few days less than expected as my baby did come earlier. As from my other post you might know that I had less fluid in my cervix. 39th week – I already had more contractions and I was bleeding again. As long as I still remember everything I wanted to write down how my labor was, as it really was not easy for me!
(this is like a remembrance for myself too..)
19th of June 2018
I left the house for check up, somehow I knew it’s going to happen very soon. The days before I have been in contact with the hospital already as I was bleeding which they said is normal as my body is preparing.
The heart of baby Aria was doing good and the movement of the baby was also fine. They could still not tell where the blood came from and the placenta could not be seen on the ultra sound as usual (there will be a point on this after birth!!) Telling the doctor about what happened the last days and how I feel, they decided that I should stay there and I shall get induced later in the afternoon. I had lunch, informed my boyfriend and then I walked up to the labor room.
ca. 3 PM
I was prepared and got this needle thing in my hand (for the IV) and was checked with the CTG again.
4:30 PM
I got this medication to induce the labor. It looked like a tampon which was actually the strongest of all medication, but was suggested by the doctor.
5 PM
My boyfriend arrived with the hospital bag and we had dinner and we went for a walk outside and facetimed with my family in Berlin.
  9 PM
We had to go back to the room for the first check up.  I already felt the pain coming. While walking I already had contractions.
9:20 PM
The first real contraction came along… I was laying in bed already and breathing it away. This was still fine. I was about 1 cm dilated. Another midwife came in for the night shift.
10 PM to 12:30 AM
This was the most extreme time I had in labor, except the birth later on. I was in such pain, I had very strong contractions around every 3 minutes which shoot up high so fast that I was like having an electro shock every time. This is what I heard that contractions with inducing are very different to natural contractions. I don’t remember everything only that I was crying and said I can’t do this. I was only dilated 3 cm and still had to go on for the next 7 hours this way?! I was like nooo!! Screaming into the pillow trying to breathe and hanging myself on this rope that was attached to the ceiling. It really took all of my energy and I was so in shock about this pain. I knew that it will be very different to what I have ever known in my life and I needed to go through this. My baby was doing fine and already in position moving down. Then I asked for some pain reliever as I just wanted to have a break from this pain. It held on for like 2 contractions… I asked for something stronger. This was also injected and it held for like 3-4 contractions, but then it went on again. I still tried to breathe it all out with each contraction with the midwife. I was asking for a PDA, but then I was explained maybe to keep it this way and more naturally or the next option was laughing gas. My boyfriend was like – the PDA they will put a needle in your back.. I was like yeah I know I just want this to stop until I give birth and was begging. I couldn’t even finish a sentence in that hour. They gave me the laughing gas and I really hated it. It made me feel high and like I am losing my mind. Every time I was breathing it in I should breath it out in the same thing..it made me feel having asthma. I just remember moving my head around eyes closed, crying.
  12:30 AM
Next step – PDA! Finally the anesthetist came in and explained everything to me and my boyfriend – with some breaks as I had contractions. She just came from another room where some else got the PDA too. I was hold together by my boyfriend and the midwife so I won’t move during a contraction. The whole procedure was done and after around 5 minutes I could tell the difference!! I was me again and could speak out whole sentences.
  1 PM to 5.30 AM
My boyfriend and I could finally take a rest. I was still checked every hour. I had an IV with something to hydrate me and I had this little remote to press the button if the pain comes – there was another bag hanging for the IV. In between I had to change positions and we were good as I was dilated like 8 cm already. I was bleeding which they said is normal. These hours saved my life I thought.. it was an unreal feeling, but I knew I am about to see my baby.
  Around 6 AM
My boyfriend was awake, I was dilated 9 cm and they were about to get everything ready for birth. I was explained that there will be a certain pressure and its the contraction. This is what we need to work with for pushing, but I will be told later on.
6:30 to 7 PM
I was fully dilated. Another midwife came in for the morning shift. I was about to push and concentrate on the pressure what I was explained and to move on giving birth soon. Now here comes the shocking point or disappointing moment: I was given medication per IV to get the contractions back. Pushing on the button against the pain from the PDA didn’t work anymore and nobody reacted to that. I was completely in pain as I was before just worse and as my baby was already deep down where my pelvis was stretching. I was back on trying to hold it, trying to be strong, but the pain was so extreme through this medication that I couldn’t concentrate on my baby, on breathing and pushing. This was horrible. At the same time so disappointing as I was told different and then this happens. For what did I let someone stick a needle in my back when this was not the purpose not to have all this pain while giving birth??
7:30 AM
I was pushing and pushing..then I was told to leave out pushing for maybe 3-4 contractions.. just breathe!  They had a meeting with the doctors and we had to wait. The pain got worse. Then an assistant doctor came in to check and make an ultra sound how the baby is doing. The baby pulse got higher whenever I started pushing, so they let me pause again 3 contractions. The pain and my emotions came together and I started crying again. The assistant doctor saw that it would not work this way and let anesthesist come in again to give me something to lower the pain level through PDA. My boyfriend and I where nervous and didn’t know what exactly was going on as we were told, my water broke 12 hours ago and this means there is a possibility of an infection of the baby.. I already had fever. Another doctor came in checked the ultra sounds again. They suggested to move on with a suction cup. They said normally it takes around 2-3 hours until birth after being fully dilated. I was pushing 2 1/2 hours already. I said to my boyfriend yes, please let us do this because this takes way to long and if it helps her… some minutes went by they got all the tools together and I was still having contractions. The assistant doctor was placing the suction cup… wrong! Had to take it off and place it again!! First contraction pushing and pushing and pushing… taking a break waiting for the next contractions to build up my boyfriend already saw the head and said her hair is black!  At this point everything was so tight down there this was such a weird feeling.
9:58 AM
I pushed again and again and again… THERE SHE WAS!! I didn’t hear anything, the pediatrician took her right away and there finally I heard her voice!! This was the moment I started crying I was longing for her she was so far, yet still in the room. My boyfriend went over as he was worried not hear her voice. He wasn’t even able to cut the navel as they had to handle fast – because of the infection, I thought! (coming back to this later/ other blog post!) Finally was she checked and everything was fine and she was healthy no infection, thank the universe!! In the meanwhile everything came out of me what was still in there..
The Placenta
The past months I had problems with the placenta and we were not sure where the blood came from. I was sick off earlier than I thought, I was not allowed to move too much..I was at home getting used that I can’t do much. After giving birth to the placenta they cut it and where looking if everything is fine with it and then looked after some bruises BECAUSE this actually caused the bleeding months ago. Even I was looking at it! NOTHING was found!! Everything was good with it I mean I am thankful for that..but in the end we will never find out where it actually came from.
My Baby Aria was born – 50 cm and 3110 KG
I was finally with her, she was laying on me, staring at me! This is an unforgettable moment – my heart grew bigger for her and I had a face to the movements in my bump. I love her so much and I was so happy, I could not believe a little human came out of me. After all that what happened … after all we went through and we stayed so strong! Everything is worth it, I swear! I didn’t really care about me I just wanted her to be good and healthy. I started to give her my breast and I got an ice-cold coke and it was so good!!
Tearing down there!
Yes, this happened due to pulling her out with the suction cup, first the assistant doctor was not sure if it was that or if the blood came from the inside. Then she started sewing I didn’t really feel anything.
My bladder was over filled
I couldn’t go to the restroom, either during the night or after birth. I had 1 1/2 L of urine in my bladder. I had to get a catheter during the whole stay at the hospital and now also at home. As this could get dangerous. But I didn’t mind as long as this helps my bladder to get smaller. I called the urine sack Alfredo for some reasons.
Inducing labor is something different.. than a natural one:
The main difference between a natural and artificially started labour is the intensity of the contractions. In a natural labour, oxytocin works to stimulate your uterus to contract and dilate the cervix. … Natural labour usually begins slowly, with a gradual build up of spaced out contractions that are short and mild
Read more about it here!
made it through the 2nd night
3rd day
Our first night together
3rd day we changed her clothes 🙂
next morning
During the day of birth
one day old Aria
IN ALL!!
This was an experience which was crazy, madness of pain, emotions and a wonder having my baby finally in my arms. The days in the hospital were going quiet well we had all the help we needed the midwives were so kind. Her first check up went good and I got breast pump to take home for a week and all information. Next week I will go back to get Alfredo my catheter out.
I will be posting a blog for how our first week went at home and a post about what I found out through my midwife who visits me at home, which is shocking what actually caused my baby having a high pulse and not screaming when she was born!
This is quiet a long story, but I wanted to keep all in details so I can have flash backs later on 🙂
I don’t know if other women were in such pain too while the labor was induced? There are women saying no to another child after the first one.. some women don’t remember the pain.
I think you can never compare all births and judge. I think everyone has a unique story..
and this was mine!
XOXO

The Belonging of Memories — Q+A with Painter Gideon Rubin
Scientifically intriguing yet poetic in its elusiveness, memory has been an unbounded theme among inspiring artists and thinkers in the past decades. In Matter and Memory (1896), an essay on the relation of body and spirit, philosopher Henri Bergson wrote on the relationship between mental images and souvenirs, sensations, and imagination, notably stating that there is no consciousness without memory.
Bergson's reflections in this remarkable topical book allow us to introduce London-based Israeli artist Gideon Rubin's paintings as a shortcut to the universality of consciousness. Appropriating fragments of other people's lives and giving them new perspectives and narratives in his work, Rubin creates what could be clues to comprehend the framework of human remembrance.
Cover image:
Gideon Rubin, Girl in the Water, 122 x 102 cm, Oil on canvas, 2011
We asked the artist some questions to learn more about his relation to art and the past's belonging.
Eve Laliberté: EL
Gideon Rubin: GR
EL: What brought you to painting? Was becoming an artist a dream, a plan, or a coincidence?
GR: It was pure chance and destiny. Or maybe the other way around. I first started painting during a backpacking trip in my early 20's in South America, on a salt desert between Chile and Bolivia, to be exact. I was born in a house surrounded by my grandfather's paintings, but only when I left Israel and began travelling did I start painting myself, and the need to paint appeared. Everyone around me was surprised. No one saw this coming, myself included.
EL: There is a strong feeling of enigma emanating from your body of work. You paint most of your pieces by drawing from old photographs belonging to other people. Why are you interested in souvenirs?
GR: I am always drawn to objects. The older the stuff is, the better. One of my most pleasurable activities is wandering off at flea markets and antique shops. My parents' house looks more like a 'British museum' jumble sale, as my mother is an obsessive collector who has difficulties throwing anything out. It's not only their intrinsic beauty that draws me in but also the way they hold times' passing. That's what I have a hard time resisting to. It's their stories that pull me in again and again. As if by working with these objects, touching them, painting them - some hidden angels or unearthed truths which weirdly enough seem relevant to me now, can reveal themselves.
EL: Interacting with fragments of strangers' lives, you take part in redefining the narratives. Are the memories you paint yours or someone else's?
GR: I used to think they're not mine, but now I'm less sure, so maybe both. Of course, the point of departure is someone else's memories and life. Then, I'm drawn to a specific image because it touches something within me, even if buried deep in my subconscious. Only then something quite interesting happens. The image becomes everyone's memory. I am very interested in how it crosses over, how by altering a few details, we, as viewers, can relate in a more direct way to someone else's story.
EL: Where do you typically find the photographs you draw inspiration from?
GR: Antique markets, flea markets, antique shops, used bookshops, and eBay, of course.
EL: Is there an aim to bring history forward in your paintings? Or perhaps to underline the universality of human experience? Why?
GR: A friend, who's an art critic, writer, and curator who has written about my work a few times in the past, once said that I try to stop time in my work. As if I look at history, freeze it, and drag it to the present. I like this. I think it's a fundamental quality in art, which makes it relevant to our lives — our here and now. I think this relates to how I experienced Velasquez and the Old Masters for the first time. There is this painting in the Met, in New York,' The Moore'. It's not only an admiration for how the image was made or its beauty, but also how much it touches and penetrates our present life that is so mind-blowing.
EL: It's as if the figures are waiting for us to tell them something, to give them an identity. Why are you interested in the "incomplete"?
GR: I have a vast catalogue at home - which my parents had to drag from NY - 'Unfinished' from an exhibition of unfinished works by all the Masters, which was held at the Met Breuer in New York I think, last year.
Oh, how I wish I could have seen this exhibition. Picasso once said,' To finish a piece of work is to kill it' - I'm a firm believer in that. It is so much easier to feed the viewer with every detail and nuance, so much more challenging to leave things a bit more open.
EL: Could you share any book, movie, documentary, or location that you particularly like or have inspired you recently?
GR: Next to my bed, I have 'The Flame' by Leonard Cohen. What's weird is that as you read his poems, often, you can hear his voice reading the lines in your head. I've also re-read a little book of poetry recently by Wisława Szymborska translated to Hebrew, which I always enjoy. And third and last is an artist's book by Francis Alys - which I recently had to buy, again, as I lost my original copy. One of my favourite art books of all time, 'The Prophet and the Fly': beautiful, poetic, and political, all wrapped up in one exceptional book.

The Thirteen Towers of Cannaregio
by John Hejduk
In a way, this project is related to the “Cemetery of the Ashes of Thought”, Venice 1975; which is described as:
The Cemetery of the Ashes of Thought
The exteriors of the Mulino Stucky building are painted black. The interiors of the Mulino Stucky building are painted white. The long, extended walls of the “Cemetery of the Ashes of Thought” are black on one side and white on the other. The surfaces of the long, extended walls are grey at the top and at their extremities. Within the walls, at human height, square holes of 93 cm2 open up. Inside each hole there is a transparent cube containing ashes. Under each hole, on the wall, there is a small bronze plate with the indication of a title, of a work, for example: “Remembrance of Things Past”, “The Counterfeiters”, “The Inferno”, “Paradise Lost”, "Moby Dick", etc. On the interior of the walls of the Molino Stucky building are small plaques with the names of the authors of the works: Proust, Gide, Dante, Milton, Melville, etc. In the lagoon, on a man-made island, is a small house for the sole habitation of one individual for a limited period of time. Only one individual for a set period of time may inhabit the house, and no others will be permitted to stay on the island during its occupation. The lone individual looks across the lagoon to the “Cemetery for the Ashes of Thought”.
The Thirteen Watchtowers of Cannaregio
Are configured as follows: Thirteen towers placed in a row 1,22m apart. Each tower measures 4,87m x 4,87m x 29,26m high. They are constructed of reinforced -concrete masonry and a cement-stucco finish. The exterior color is basically a Venetian pink, green, grey and white. The doors and shutters are made of bluish wood slatting; metal parts are grey. The window awnings are made of a green cloth. The structures’ interior walls are of cement. Eleven of the towers are painted grey inside; one of the towers is painted black inside; one of the towers is painted white inside. The first floor consists of entry door; elevator lift (glass transparent) and a large fireplace (tile-covered-heating element). The second level (2,44m x 2,44m x 2,44m, including an element freely floating from the outer walls, painted in a muted blue) consists of the bathroom area. The third level (3m x 3m x 1,50m; element floating freely from the outer walls, painted in a muted mauve) consists of the sleeping area. The fourth level (3,65m x 3,65m x 1,22m; element floating freely from the outer walls, painted in a muted orange) consists of the dining area. The fifth level (4,57m x 4,57m x 4,57m; the floor painted in a muted brown) consists of the living area. This space also contains a periscope. The sixth level (4,57m x 4,57m x 4,57m) is the outdoor terrace overlooking Cannaregio and Venice. The terrace is reached by ladder from the fifth floor. The seventh floor consists of the four top edge surfaces of tower capping. One elevation consists of windows with awnings, window with sun protection, balcony, telescope and venting holes. One elevation consists of one door and exposed beam ends. One elevation consists of loading-pulley system, sets of sliding doors and venting holes. One elevation consists of exposed beam ends. The towers are placed upon a rectangular slab surrounded by water. One canal 7,41m wide, one channel 1,22m wide and two channels 0,61m wide. On the other side of the 7,31m wide canal there is a campo on which sit two elements. Element 1 is a small white house (20 m2) suspended on one side of a black wall. A black circular stair fronts a white wall on the other side. Element 2 is a 4,87m x 0,91m wood table set upon wooden carpenter horses. The table is covered with a white cloth. The city of Venice selects thirteen men, one for each tower for life-long residency. One man lives in one tower, and only he is permitted to inhabit and enter this tower. A fourteenth man is selected to inhabit the small house located in the campo. Each of the thirteen tower men is pledged not to reveal his interior coloration. The 4,87m x 0,91m table is placed in front of the campo house and then each day is moved and placed in front of a following tower; when a cycle is completed another cycle is put into motion. Upon the death of one of the tower inhabitants, the man in the campo house takes his place and another is selected to inhabit the campo house. There are two bridges: one a drawbridge made of wood, the other a bridge made of stone. The campo is large to begin with. One thousand nineteen hundred and seventy-nine 0,91m x 1,82m stone slabs will be placed in the campo which underlooks the Thirteen Watchtowers of Cannaregio; with the passing of each year another stone slab will be added.
The House For The Inhabitant Who Refused To Participate
Somewhere in another part of the city overlooking some other campo there is a house inhabited by one who refused to participate. In that campo stands a 1,82m x 1,82m x 21,94m stone tower. The lone inhabitant’s house consists of 12 separate units. Each unit measures 1,82m x 1,82m x 2,74m. The units are suspended off a wall. Under each unit is a number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc. The wall itself is the 13th unit. Unit 1 contains a kitchen sink. Unit 2 contains a kitchen stove. Unit 3 contains a dining table and chair. Unit 4 contains a refrigerator. Unit 5 contains a sleeping bed. Unit 6 contains a study table and chair. Unit 7 is empty. Unit 8 contains a living seat. Unit 9 contains a bath sink. Unit 10 contains a bathtub. Unit 11 contains a shower. Unit 12 contains a toilet. At the exact level of the Participant of Refusal's empty cell there is affixed upon the campo tower a mirror (the precise elevation size of the opposite cell). When the inhabitant of the house stands in his empty room he simply reflects himself upon the mirror of the opposite tower. Any citizen is permitted to climb the ladder and enter the stone tower. Once in the tower the citizen can see the lone inhabitant across the campo within his cell. The citizen looks through the opposite side of the mirror that reflects the inhabitant of the house. It is a one-way mirror. The citizen can observe without being observed. There is only one risk for the hidden observer. Another citizen may release the overhead tower door consequently enclosing within the tower the citizen observer. Between the house and tower, within the horizontal plane of the campo, is cut out a 0,91m wide, 1,82m long and 1,82m deep hole.
Since 1974 Venice has preoccupied the nature of my work. It is a forum of my inner arguments. The thoughts have to do with Europe and America; abstraction and historicism; the individual and the collective; freedom and totalitarianism; the colors black, white, grey; silence and speech; the literal and the ambiguous; narrative and poetry; the observer and the observed. The projects dedicated to some of the above elements are: 1. “The Cemetery of the Ashes of Thought”,  Venice 1975 2. “The Silent Witnesses”, Venice 1976 3. “The Thirteen Watchtowers of Cannaregio”, Venice 1978-1979 I am grateful to Italy and to the City of Venice for stimulating my research. I noticed that the “Cemetery of the Ashes of Thought" already included an individual small house composed of a single element hanging on a wall; this house-object was isolated and placed on its own on a wide expanse of water; it was in color, facing the “Cemetery of the Ashes of Thought”, which is facing Venice, which is facing Europe. In the 13 Towers of Cannaregio, the wall house in front of the 13 Watchtowers of Cannaregio is white-black and is composed of primary elements, but now it is placed within a piazza. In the third project, i.e. the "The House For The One Who Refused To Participate”, I noticed with amazement that the "Wall House" is no longer isolated on an expanse of water or in a square, but is rather an integral part of the surrounding urban fabric and has as its basic tone the gray. I suspect that in these past four years my architecture has moved from the “Architecture of Optimism" to what I call the “Architecture of Pessimism”.

MWW Artwork of the Day (4/21/20) Jean Béraud (French, 1849–1935) Milliner on the Pont des Arts (c. 1879-82) Oil on panel, 37.5 x 56 cm. Private Collection
"Modiste sur le Pont des Arts" belongs to the series of paintings Béraud made of the bustling Pont des Arts in wintry or windy weather, with the dome of the Institut de France visible beyond.  Here, Béraud captures the spirit of the moment, as a gust of wind sweeps over the bridge, the men leaning forward or back into the wind and clutching their hats. Out of the corner of his eye a young artist -- to judge by his canvas and paint box -- steals a glimpse of a pretty young milliner laden with hat boxes, who in turn sends a coquettish glance towards the viewer. In another work in the series, the girl herself is cast as the artist, with a top-hatted man looking back at her over his shoulder. It is intriguing to speculate about the possible identity of the bearded man in the tan coat. Could he be a self-referential figure, Béraud himself catching sight of his next subject? Or could he be the painter Elixir from Proust’s Remembrance of Things Past, known to have been a composite of Blanche, Helleu, Gervex, Vuillard, Whistler, and Jean Béraud?

To The Mother From. All Kids
Naturally she did, as well as she told him thus, and grinned more popularly after the brilliant, handsome boy, knowing that in just what he claimed from themselves there was actually neither narcissism neither vanity, yet a truth as well as visibility which she liked to see in him. One of the most backlash coming from our societal design, yet This believes inappropriate that my whole entire lesson was willing to refuse any type of backlash that males acquired as a result of our unit. He lacks loan fast and winds up coming to be a loan boy-- male woman of the street-- on behalf of the road and he fulfills a man who manages splendidly. As Paul Gilroy points out, the insulting boy is actually a complicated prototype as well as a genuine and repeating visibility throughout modern dark lifestyle and also popular music. Additionally, I presume most males making use of suntan booths are attempting to make their physical bodies appear far better, along with the primary goal from taking some rear (no matter positioning). He possessed little choice in the concern, but he usually regrets to-day that he performed not possess additional attend his boyhood for play. Nonetheless, Tom possesses means from retribution- the iPhone parts in his mind links him to the electronic world and he possesses godlike command of electronic devices. For males like Scar and Callum, true sexual activity with true women that don't resemble adult stars is too mundane to carry out the task. The tale of Beth Tuttle is one of jealousy, as her good friend George hooks up with a stranger that he met on the seaside; she is actually left behind baffled about her emotions.
