Tumblr media
Chrys: MY GHOST TRICK OC HI CHRYS HIIII (short for chrysanthemum)!!!!!!! i wanted to make a funny weird friend for weird park guy. so i did! she's a goofy gal and she loves all things nature :] its why she spends so much time at temsik park!
Timespace: hi clive nation this is like the timebug before clives. i weird bugged my own oc (kaleidoscope) <3 shes an au version that got stuck in between dimensions for so so so so very long that she gained the power to open portals between dimensions. she sees hidden rifts that others do not.
Match 7 and 8...
Romy and Rainbow lost!
Tumblr media
Romy: ROMYYYY ILY ROMYYYY he's my funny little shadows over loathin au guy that turned into an oc. he's a split off fragment of hellstrom's soul (got separated when hellstrom gets sent to HELL lolll) that turned into his own separate being and now the hellcows want him in hell too
Rainbow: goopy (NOTE: THEIR DIALOGUE SHOULD SAY "Ah, so I did mess up that last one" BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED THERE AND I DONT FEEL LIKE FIXING IT)

"How do we push this arc to its climax? Clearly the only solution is to introduce Literal Vampire Bram Stoker as a deus ex coffina!"
Bungo Stray Dogs reads like a fanfic posted at 3 AM after a Bawls-fueled writing spree and I absolutely love that for it.

Financial advisor spent $900K from client on country club, cars, authorities say
A financial advisor out of Moorestown was sentenced to seven years in state prison Wednesday for stealing some $900,000 a client had given him to invest and putting it toward lavish personal expenses, authorities said.
Tumblr media
Brian Murphy, 47, of Hainesport, pleaded guilty to misapplication of entrusted property and failure to pay New Jersey state income taxes, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office. The charges carried seven and three year sentences, respectively, which Murphy will served concurrently.
He must also repay the former client $890,000 in restitution and surrender his license, authorities said.
Murphy previously worked under the business Murphy Financial Advisors, and began receiving money from the client to invest in mutual funds in 2011, according to the prosecutor's office.
Instead of investing the money as promised, Murphy used it to cover personal and business expenses, buying a country club membership, private school tuition and cars, authorities said.
The client, who sent Murphy money for several years, became suspicious when he or she did not receive financial statements, authorities said. When pressed, Murphy sent the client fraudulent statements, which the client could not verify upon contacting the investment firm, authorities said.
After the client confronted Murphy, he came to the client's home, and brought paperwork stating that the client had agreed to loan Murphy the money, according to the prosecutor's office.
Further investigation into Murphy found that he underreported his income in 2012, 2014 and 2015, and failed to pay state income taxes in 2013, authorities said.
"This sentence reflects the seriousness of this substantial fraud," Prosecutor Scott Coffina said in a statement. "Let it serve as a reminder that we will vigorously prosecute financial advisors and anyone else who steals money entrusted to them by a client."

Woman Sentenced to Prison For GoFundMe Scam
By Angelica Meliksetyan, University of Pennsylvania Class of 2024
July 30, 2022
Tumblr media
Through a scam, Katelyn McClure, 32, raised $400,000 by fabricating a false story about a homeless veteran on GoFundMe. She recently pleaded guilty in a Camden court on July 21, 2022, to one count of theft by deception in the second degree and was sentenced to one year and one day in prison by a federal judge. As part of her sentence, she was ordered to receive three years of supervised release and is required to pay $400,000 in restitution [1]. In the past, Mclure had also pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud [2]. Mclure's former boyfriend, Mark D'Amico, who was also in charge of the scheme, accepted a plea deal in 2019 and was sentenced to 27 months in prison [1].
In 2017, the couple shared a story on GoFundMe titled "Paying It Forward." The story centered around Johnny Bobbitt, a homeless veteran whom they claimed had been sitting on the side of the road near an exit ramp holding a sign, used his last $20 to pay for the couple's gas when they were driving home from Philadelphia. It was described that the couple were in a state of panic, as they thought they would not be able to get home without gas. As stated in the story description, donations were supposedly being collected to provide Bobbitt with essentials and help buy him a home; a $10,000 goal was set by the couple [2]. In the GoFundMe post, Mclure wrote that she "Truly believes that all Johnny needs is one little break. Hopefully, with your help, I can be the one to give it to him." [3]. Moreover, the story was also posted on McClure and D'Amico's social media accounts, where they praised Bobbitt for being a good samaritan in the community. Over 14,000 donors contributed to Bobbit's cause after the story was covered by local and national media outlets and quickly went viral [4].
Despite the couple's claim that they wanted to pay it forward to the homeless man, Bobbit claimed the couple took advantage of him soon after he became homeless again. After receiving approximately $367,500 after fees, the couple purchased a BMW, a New Year's trip to Las Vegas, gambled at casinos, purchased Louis Vuitton bags, and enjoyed other luxurious items. In the end, the couple primarily utilized the funds for themselves, and Bobbitt only received $75,000 of the donations. Until an official investigation was conducted, the couple denied any of the claims were true. Due to the unequal distribution of the funds, Bobbitt decided to hire an attorney and took civil action against D'Amico and McClure, which eventually led to the public becoming aware of the scam. According to Scott Coffina, a prosecutor for Burlington County, the couple met Bobbit a month before the GoFundMe page was started. Bobbitt had truly been homeless, an addict, and he did spend time at the exit ramp where the photo was taken, but he never gave them $20 [3].
Investigators looked through the couple's text messages and found they often complained about their financial trouble. A text to a friend was also discovered, saying, "OK so wait the gas part is completely made up, but the guy isn't. I had to make something up to make people feel bad", indicating that the story was entirely made up [4]. In a press release, prosecutors said, "In reality, McClure never ran out of gas and Bobbitt never spent his last $20 for her. D'Amico and McClure allegedly conspired to create the false story to obtain money from donors" [1]. Nevertheless, Bobbit was also implicated in the scam. In response to the allegations, he pleaded guilty to his involvement and is awaiting sentencing for his crimes. The friends and donors who contributed were surprised to learn about this scam, suggesting that it is becoming increasingly difficult to trust people [3].

A White man who was arrested over the summer for his racist rant against his Black neighbors is still in jail and now facing new charges.
Edward “Cagney” Matthews, went viral in July for a racist confrontation in his Mount Laurel, New Jersey neighborhood for aggressively approaching a black neighbor and shouting racial insults at him, calling him a “monkey.”
During the rant, Matthews gave his address and urged people to “come see me” in the viral video. People listened and showed up at his house a few days later for a protest that lasted hours and eventually led to Matthews’ arrest.
In the latest development, Matthews is now accused of leaving a threatening note on a neighbor’s car and damaging their vehicle, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced on Tuesday.
Matthews now has 22 separate charges since the video emerged in July 2. Charges include bias intimidation, harassment, criminal mischief, possession of a weapon (slingshot) for an unlawful purpose, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, stalking, certain persons not to have weapons, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Attorneys in the case responded to the latest charges in a statement, “the report notes that MLPD generally viewed the complaints raised by Essex Place residents on a case-by-case basis, rather than taking a problem-oriented approach,”
“With a broader perspective on the situation in the community, MLPD might have been able to devise an effective solution and brought relief to the residents Mathews had victimized sooner than his July 2 arrest.”
According to the Burlington County Prosecutor “We empathize with the residents of Essex Place who were on the receiving end of Mathews’ conduct,” Coffina said. “No one should have to endure racial harassment anywhere, but especially not in their own neighborhood and even in their own home.”

god, thinking about xie lian being stuck in that coffin for 100 years really hurts me. Like he's stuck in a very tight space for decades, in constant agony, unable to shift into a more comfortable position. I bet he's gained severe claustrophobia now, from that experience
Right? It’s really lucky that any time this could have come up in the novel (the coffina nd when the mountain spirit swallowed them) Hua Cheng was there to distract and comfort him, otherwise he probably would have gone through the grandmother of all PTSD meltdowns.
I’m honestly surprised it’s not a more common topic in fanfic - in fact, I’ve yet to see one dealing with it. (Which probably only means I didn’t look hard enough.)
(Please if any of you knows of such a fic, send a link, I wanna see!)

NJ Man Killed Ex-Girlsfriend's Family
Tumblr media
A New Jersey man has been arrested after allegedly killing his ex-girlfriend’s grandmother and brother, holding her against her will in a home with the bodies, and then streaming the subsequent police chase on Facebook Live.
Terrence Matthews, 23, is facing charges of first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and weapons charges, authorities said Friday.
Police say Matthews stabbed his ex’s grandmother and her 9-year-old brother—who had reportedly also been drowned in a bathtub—on Wednesday night after the two had gotten into an argument earlier in the day.
Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Willingboro Public Safety Director Kinamo Lomon said the killings appeared to have happened while the ex-girlfriend was at work, and when she returned home, he allegedly held her against her will at the home until Thursday morning.
The two then went to a local convenience store, where she told employees about the killings and Matthews fled. Police then engaged in a high-speed chase with Matthews, who streamed the whole thing on Facebook Live before crashing into a pole and sustaining minor injuries.
