hey, Leverage peeps, I've got a thought. I've seen a lot of posts and memes joking about Nate's inability to understand that his clients do not want money, they want revenge. I also find this funny. but I was thinking about it and I realized something: there's a personal reason behind it. there is a very, very good reason why Nate doesn't get that.
Nate's drive to lead Leverage, outside of the crew, originated from his son's death due to his insurance company's refusal to cover the bill for the required treatment. we all know this. if his company had paid for Sam's treatment, everything would've been fine.
…or, if Nate had been a little wealthier, had a little more change to spend… maybe he could've paid for it. maybe Blackpool never would've had a say in any of it. maybe Nate would've had everything under control from the start.
we've discussed at length in the fandom how money equals safety for some of the others in the crew (Parker and Hardison grew up with little to none and know its importance to survival, Eliot needs it to stay ahead of his old enemies, etc.), but I don't know that I've seen any discussion on how it's relevant to Nate. for him, however, money equals security in healthcare and in housing (he lost the house, remember?). Nate's older than the others. he remained in the same place for much longer, and he had a stable life for a while. the others haven't been in that position before. many of their clients, however, are at that place in life.
yes, for the others, money keeps them ahead of the game and it keeps them secure. but none of them ever lost a kid because they couldn't pay for healthcare. none of them risk losing the life of someone who is completely dependent on them when they don't have enough.
(Hardison, perhaps, has the closest understanding, considering he hacked a bank to pay for his Nana's healthcare. but he never lost her.)
Nate thinks ahead, you know? he has a long-term view of things. I imagine that for him, when clients refuse the money, they're not just refusing a month's worth of groceries, or a place to stay the night, or the ability to keep running. for him, they're refusing control over their hard-earned, stable, long-term living situation. they're refusing the potential to save a family member's life.
I dunno, guys. I think that's a pretty good reason to not understand why people don't want the money.

thinking about painsluts with a dom that purposefully doesnt hurt them. instead, treats them with the utmost care, gently caressing their pretty face and murmuring out the sweetest praise. everytime they watch your hand raise they brace themselves for a familar slap that makes them lose their minds, but it never comes and they are left with tense muscles and a loss for words. it was nearly impossible to casually beg for someone to grant them their dirtiest desires, but you know exactly what they need, and just taunt them with it, because you want to hear their pathetic cry. and eventually after too many soft kisses and too many gently caresses, they let out the rawest noise, as if it just tumbled out of them against their will: "please hurt me.", "break me.", "ruin me."

WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP PRACTICING POOR INTERNET SAFETY AROUND ME
I don't want to know a teenager's age and state. I don't want to see your shirtless 6 year old daughter. I don't want to see kids selfies.
AND I DON'T WANT TO KNOW YOUR TRIGGERS, TRAUMAS, AND ILLNESSES.
stop stop stop stop stop JUST STOPIT
This isn't stuff I've stumbled on this is all shit that has been sent directly to me, unprompted, by people I'm friendly toward but don't consider friends. They don't know anything about me except that i am AN ADULT MAN
I CLAIM to be nice. I SAY I work at a cat shelter (what's more trustworthy than that?) but nobody verifies any of this!! They don't know my name, they can't look me up in a registry. I could be lying about all of it!
If you wouldn't show it to a known predator, please for the love of god don't show it to an unknown stranger. I am!!! A stranger!!
Even if you are friends with someone and you know about their work, school, personal life, family situation, friends, health, orientation, etc etc. If you haven't verified that ALWAYS CONSIDER IT MIGHT BE LIES. A predator could pretend to be a teenage girl and tell you about their day at school and the teacher that annoys them and it could be ALL LIES
What freaks me out is that I present myself exactly as I am. I am an adult man. And people still send me this. WHY ARE YOU SENDING THIS TO SOMEONE ON THE INTERNET. I'm ok knowing you as Tigerhawk17 I don't need to know your name and face and age and location please please please
DID YOU ASK YOUR SIX YEAR OLD IF YOU COULD SEND SHIRTLESS PICTURES OF HER TO A MAN ON THE INTERNET?
DOES SHE UNDERSTAND HOW BAD THAT IS???

swanatello’s feet must be DESTROYED. good lord.
If he were a normal person, they absolutely would be. But as it stands, if constantly being on pointe is causing any pain or damage to his body, he can't feel it. Walking on pointe feels completely natural to him. He is capable of walking normally, but it would be akin to us walking on our tiptoes-- not painful, but a little bit awkward and something we would have to consciously do, and would become uncomfortable after a bit.

Was anyone going to point out to me that the reason why curses were swarming the streets and filling every empty nook and cranny in the summer of Geto's spiral was actually Gojo Satoru?
The narrative already bears witness to how Satoru's mere birth tips the balance of the world. As the first Gojo to be born with both the Limitless and the Six Eyes in what is almost a half-millenium, he holds unparalled power. Him simply existing is enough for curses to spring into action and start growing in strength as well.
When he suffers a crushing defeat by the hands of Toji and subsequently thrusts himself vigorously into perfecting his technique, this rapid increase in his strength puts into motion a similar process. He becomes stronger, and so cursed spirits follow suit. He breaks the fragile equilibrium, and cursed energy seeks means to restore it.
First time Satoru Gojo changes the world, he is named the strongest. Second time Satoru Gojo changes the world, he becomes the strongest.
Now, this might be a bit of a stretch on my part, but what if Geto's defection and everything in its aftermath is how the world responds to Gojo being the strongest? After all, you cannot balance the scales by putting too much weight on just one side.
Suguru's abilities as a sorcerer are inherently deeply tied to Satoru's, and intentionally so. The stronger he is, the more potent the curses are -- and therefore the more potential there is for Geto's technique. I have said it before and I'll say it again: they are a perfect counterbalance to each other. The equilibrium is broken by Gojo twice. Each time, Geto is there to restore it: first by being born with the ability to manipulate curses, then by creating the opposition to jujutsu society, which Gojo has become the centrepiece of.
Ever since Suguru Geto entered the narrative, he has been the one to keep Gojo's powers in check -- hence preserving the balance. That's why the narrative brings him back: in order to be well-balanced, it needs both of them to be present.

Soap hc for your consideration:
When Soap has anxious or just angry energy that he doesn't know what to do with (and he doesn't feel like training it out) he'll hyperfocus on deep cleaning whatever space he can for hours. He's hardly aware of time passing as he's doing it too, he just stops when he feels all the energy fade away or become a more manageable level
some people joke that that’s how he got his callsign even though the name soap came well before anyone noticed his habit, but he doesn’t really mind.
because all that matters is that cleaning to him is calming; the repetitive motions, the smells, the instant gratification of stepping back from his work and seeing a notable difference in cleanliness. what matters is that even as much time as it may take, it’s draining in a good way and, in the end, the effort can be appreciated.
the 141 notices the habit when the common room is suddenly cleaner than it’s ever been—even the grout is white after years of being an ugly brownish-grey—and they find soap in the middle of it all, scrubbing at a particularly stubborn stain on the kitchenette counter.
after that, price, gaz, and ghost all chip in to buy supplies for soap on occasion, because it can get expensive, and they have to show they’re thankful anyhow. they don’t comment on the habit otherwise, and that’s just how things go.

Could you explain your position on Shallura? Since Allura was established as a teenager when she started dating Lance and Shiro was very clearly an adult. I can understand the bi shiro headcannon but the shallura thing worries me
i am going to remind yall that i have been in this fandom since 2016. and in the early seasons, allura was not established as a teenager. in fact she was coded as older, as closer to shiro's age -- there was a specific divide between her and the younger paladins that she did not have with shiro. they made her younger (both explicitly and in mannerisms) as the show went on. and i do not give a fuck about voltron like...post s4 and i didn't even watch s7-8. so like. especially with older fics, im going to enjoy shallura.
