The Cuy’val Dar
Following on from my Jango post, I want to talk about the Cuy’val Dar.
The same warning as that post applies. This is largely my speculations based on canon, but not actually canon.
A note about Legends canon: Unless it is directly contradicted by the current canon, I choose to include Legends canon as canon.
So, the Cuy’val Dar (Mando’a meaning those who are lost) are the trainers Jango recruited to train the clones on Kamino. There were one hundred of these trainers, and seventy five of those one hundred were Mandalorians. The other twenty five were probably bounty hunters and general mercenaries.
Of the seventy five Mandos, we only know the names of 12 of them. Two, Isabet Reau and Dred Priest, were Death Watch sympathizers if not full on members. The other 10 have no stated allegiance but it’s my speculation that at least some of them were True Mandalorians under Jaster and Jango.
There are two whom I am almost certain were True Mandalorians. Kal Skirata is said to have known Jango for years, so he was obviously at least affiliated with the True Mandalorians. He was found by his adopted father, Munin Skirata, when Munin was on a mission with a group of mercenaries. My guess is those mercenaries were Jaster’s people, and possibly even included Jaster himself.
Rav Bralor was a close friend and comrade in arms of Kal Skirata’s long before Kamino, so obviously if he is a True Mandalorian, it stands to reason that she must have been one too.
There are two others who are potentially True Mandalorians. Llats Ward isn’t stated to have any particular affiliation but his chest plate has a whacking great mythosaur skull on it, which is the sigil of the True Mandalorians. Of course, it’s also just a generally important symbol in Mando culture, so Llats could have it on his armour for entirely different reasons.
Miij Gilmar, the trainer of the clone medics, wasn’t born a Mando but became one after he married a Mandalorian woman. She was murdered, unfortunately and he vowed revenge. It’s noted that he had a deep hatred for the death watch allied Dred Priest and Isabet Reau. My speculation is that his wife was killed by Death Watch and he may have joined (or already have been part of) the True Mandos to avenge her.
There is one more trainer I want to discuss in detail. His name is Cort Davin, and he was a Journeyman Protector on Concord Dawn. Obviously this is the same profession as Jaster and Fett Sr, so this suggests he may have been a colleague of theirs. It does seem that he stayed in the Journeyman Protectors until he was recruited into the Cuy’val Dar, so I don’t think he was a proper member of the True Mandos, but he could have been their ally.
We know virtually nothing of the remaining five named Mandos of the Cuy’val Dar, B’arin Apma, Swart Swifto, Wad’e Tayhaai, Vhonte Tervho and Walon Vau. I have no idea if any of these people were True Mandalorians. It’s possible.
A side tangent about Wad’e Tay’haai: one of the few things I could find about him is that his preferred weapons were a traditional Mando spear and a bes’bav. A bes’bav is a Mandalorian flute that doubles as a stabbing weapon. Of course the Mandos have a musical instrument that is also a weapon. Of course they do. It makes me wonder how many other musical weapons exist in Mando culture. And how many other things Mandos have made into weapons. Many, many things probably.
Anyways, this brings me onto the point of this post: why would any True Mandalorians would agree to train the clones despite it going against their well established code of protection over children? And how did Jango feel about these people that were once his?
It’s my personal speculation that any True Mandalorians that joined the Cuy’val Dar on Kamino did so for a number of reasons. The New Mandalorian pacifists were in charge on Mandalore, so anyone wishing to keep their culture couldn’t stay there. I can’t imagine that Mandalorians are welcomed in many places in the galaxy, so it’s possible some of them joined because it guaranteed a place to live and a source of income and food.
Some might have joined out of loyalty to Jango. Perhaps they thought he wouldn’t allow the clones to be treated badly and by the time it became apparent that he would, they couldn’t back out. Perhaps they wanted to help him and therefore help the clones.
I doubt any of them were actually told what they were being recruited for. It was a secret, after all, and I don’t think telling a bunch of Mandalorians ‘there’s a facility where they’re cloning children to be trained as child soldiers for a war in which they’re likely to die’ would go well.
Honestly, I just find the Cuy’val Dar quite interesting. Who are these people? Why did they agree to come to Kamino? What did they feel about the clones?

:3 may I please request Mij being lovingly needled by his supposedly professional colleagues about his and Spar’s potential/lack of relationship; or I am always down for Ordo/Maze, whatever you see fit
I had a lot of trouble figuring this one out, for a while, and then I was writing Cort and Mij talking about Jango and Spar and this happened.
***
“They really act like siblings,” Cort says, watching the tihaar in his glass.
“As far as what they’re concerned, they are, thanks to what they’ve chosen to do about the memory transfer,” Mij says, sitting down next to him once he’s put the bottle away. He wonders how long it took before Jango was willing to let Cort see the both of them like that.
Cort grimaces and sips the clear liquor. “We were both younger siblings when we first met. Then his aliit was gone, and now...now he has a tat’ka himself.”
Mij hums. He hasn’t ever asked either Fett about memories of the past—he knows only what he’s picked up from overhearing or what Spar’s told him about. “It bothers you.”
Cort groans. “’Lek. It does. It isn’t right, it isn’t natural.”
“It’s the Force,” Mij drawls. “It’s tra and kar. It’s natural, it’s right. It’s just not normal.”
“You say that as if the Force cannot be used for unnatural things,” Cort shoots back.
“Do you think either of them would have made it do this?” he counters. “It’s something that would have had to be done purposefully, if it was unnatural.”
“This entire place is unnatural.” Cort sighs. “I just worry that it’s something about here that did it.”
Possibly, but Mij considers the likelihood of that. And the likelihood that Jango didn’t investigate just that chance. “I trust them, that they can tell there’s no one else playing with their minds. The only tigaan’ad we’ve seen from the outside has been Jango himself. And I don’t think he likes himself enough to do this wilfully.”
Cort grumbles, but can’t say anything against that.
Quietly, Mij adds, “I’d never heard Jango speak of his past, before Spar.”
Cort knocks back half the glass of tihaar. “I hadn’t heard him do so since we were teenagers,” he agrees. He looks over at Mij. “So what’s the story with you and Spar?” he asks.
Mij flushes. “I’m just his doctor.”
Cort scoffs. “You know, you light-skinned humans always flash back and forth in colours so face. You want to run that by me again, Gilamar?”
Mij glares at him. “I’m not going to risk my professional relationship with Spar just because I’m attracted to him.”
Cort raises an eyebrow. “Just Spar?”
He rolls his eyes. “Yes. Just Spar. I have no interest in Jango or any of the other clones.”
Cort huffs. “Jango knows about your thing for his tat’ka?”
“Yes,” Mij says tersely, focusing on his own cup again. “He thinks it’s funny.”
The bark of laughter Cort lets out is, Mij thinks, the first bit of humour he’s ever heard from him. “And what does Spar think?”
“Spar doesn’t know.”
“You really think Jango’d not discuss it with him?” Cort asks.
Mij pales. Of course Jango would; he’s an idiot.
Cort laughs again. “Back and forth,” he mutters, grinning. “Really, kid. If Jango thinks it’s funny, he’s probably talked it over with him, and he’s probably okay with it. It wouldn’t hurt to communicate with him a bit.”
“Like how you communicate with Jango?” he counters.
Cort goes quiet. “Kid,” he says, tone dangerous.
“Don’t ‘kid’ me,” Mij hisses back. “You’re in my apartment, drinking my tihaar, and if you’re going to bring up my relationship with one of the siblings I’m damn well going to bring up yours with the other.”
Cort finishes the tihaar and sets the cup down on the table.
Mij watches him walk out without a goodbye.
He’s expecting that to be the end of it, but the next morning Cort puts him in a headlock in the kitchen.
“I talked to him,” the older man says cheerfully. “Your turn, osi’ka.”

Spar/Jango with "hesitate" and "feedback"? -- MBW
rated m, i’d say, so fair warning
Alpha-Ø2 is at that awkward point in his development where he’s growing into his body, and he uncharacteristically looks his own age tonight instead of carrying himself with the assurance of prior experience. Jango remembers acutely being that age, and so Spar must also.
Jango has given him an unprecedented amount of access to his quarters and to himself. Spar needs to be able to talk through the memories as they surface with the only person who can help him sort them out. Jango and Boba have gotten used to having him around nearly every evening, but now Boba has gone to bed and Spar has not headed for his own bunk like usual.
He’s hesitating at the door to Jango’s room like he wants to ask for something and is trying to figure out the best way to get the answer he wants. It’s calculation, but he’s nervous too.
Jango putters around the room straightening clothes and such, lets him prevaricate for several long minutes before he acknowledges Spar’s presence with a flick of his eyes.
Spar steels himself in that split second and says, “Can I stay here with you tonight, Jango?”
Usually Spar calls him Bajur or Alor, Trainer or Sir, but Jango had allowed, way back when they’d discovered the memory issue, that his first name was an option to use, hoping it might help Spar remember who’s who.
Jango tilts his head, not agreeing just yet but asking for further elaboration.
“I want to sleep with you,” Spar says, and winces minutely.
“I’m not one of your batch, to pile up with,” Jango says, still not refusing outright.
“Exactly, si— Jango!” Spar says quickly. “I think that— when I, uh— that is—”
Alpha-Ø2 would never stumble over his words like this among the rest of the Alpha class. Jango doesn’t recall ever being this awkward himself… except once, and mercifully he hadn’t had any chances to open his mouth and make a fool of himself to Cort.
He stops and looks measuringly at Spar. “You mean, sleep with,” he states more than asks, and Spar flushes but doesn’t allow himself to waver. “With me.”
Spar swallows and stands his ground. Admirable to watch all that makes him a premiere Commander be used in this…siege, negotiation, playing field. “Yes. Jango, that’s what I’m asking.”
Jango waits, and Spar gives him the reason he’d been so jumpy about before. “When I get in that sort of state, I…forget, more often than I like. It gets confusing, and I think I might start making bad choices, like, oh, you know, maybe propositioning Bajur Davin.”
“Because propositioning Bajur Fett is better,” Jango says, a little incredulous and a lot amused.
“I know who I am when I’m with you,” Spar says seriously. “And if I do get caught up in the wrong— time, or, or body, then you are the best one to be with.”
Jango considers this, and several other things, and then he makes a decision. It’s probably a bad one, but he thinks it could work out to a net good. He nods.
“Okay?” Spar asks, as though surprised his gambit worked.
Jango lets a smirk slip onto his lips, and he jerks his chin towards the bed in a definite order.
Spar starts smiling too as he hastens to obey, skirting close enough to brush up against Jango as he passes, confidence fairly well restored.
So far, so good.

No Need For Mighty Deeds
For Day 5 of @jangobiweek, Competency Kink.  I ended up doing it as a follow up to my fic Bring You Golden Rings (Only Want Your Hand To Hold) (which can also be found here and here (part 2) for those who don’t have an AO3 or just want to read it on tumblr)
“I just don’t get it,” Cort Davin said from where he was leaning against the wall with Jango, “what’s so special about him?”
Jango followed his gaze to the other side of the room where Obi-Wan was charming the target.  The Ka’ra had seen fit to, once again, align one of Jango’s bounties with a mission of Obi-Wan’s.  So of course, his riduur had decided to help.
“Just watch,” Jango said with a smirk, eyes tracking his riduur.
Small gods, but he hoped the slicers Vos had recommended figured out the truth behind the Clones quickly.  He wanted to spend more time watching his riduur work.  It was intoxicating.
Obi-Wan laughed at something that was said by the target.  He spoke to him, what Jango couldn’t say, the angle was wrong to read his lips.  But no doubt it was something clever and charming.
Something fit for the Negotiator to say.
Obi-Wan started to lead the target over, an easy win for them with the target willingly coming.
Which was when something went wrong.  Because of course it did.
Another patron, one in ostentatious clothing, stood in their way.  The man said something to Obi-Wan and Jango could see his riduur’s eyes narrow and his body tense.
The target pulled away from Obi-Wan and their hissed curse was actually loud enough to be heard throughout the cantina.
“Jedi.”
Which meant that there was an equal number of folks who did a mad scramble for the doors as there were those who got out weapons.
Because of course the criminal scum Jango was after would hide in a cantina full of criminals.
Obi-Wan’s saber lit up as he easily blocked the barrage of blaster-fire sent at him.  He pulled the target back with the Force and held onto them as he effectively moved through the cantina.  He Force pushed a few out of the way and then was outside.
Not that that stopped the brawl that had been created by so many different criminals fighting.
Jango pushed off the wall and pointed his flamethrower to the ceiling.  It stopped the fighting as most looked towards him.
“Get out of my way,” Jango told them.  He didn’t have to say more.  The criminals just assumed he meant he would use the flamethrower on them if they didn’t comply and parted before him.
Cort followed.
“Alright, I might have a bit of a better idea now.”
“You should see him when he is in full Negotiator mode.  It’s mesh’la.”
“And you’ve made your claim quite clear.  I saw the kad in his boot.  And the kom’rk with your sigil.”
“There’s more but he thinks armor is restrictive.  It was difficult to find pieces that would aid in his work that he’d wear but counted for the riduurok’aka.”
Cort grinned then.
“I heard from Zam that it was going no where even with your careful choices.”
Jango grumbled wordlessly as they joined Obi-Wan and the target.
“To be fair,” Obi-Wan said to Cort, surprising the Journeyman even as Jango let his smugness leak into their Bond, “I was expecting a Young style courtship.  Where you’re rather straightforward about the whole thing. But Jango was wonderfully romantic.”

Hey, hey, I'm trying to write a Fox fic, and want another character to speak with a JP dialect, but can't find anything about it. Did you make it up for Soft Wars??? Am I just terrible at researching??? Can you supply any more information on this??? PLease??? I've been looking for over an hour OP please
Hey there!
The Concord Dawn dialect of Mando’a that the Journeyman Protectors is canon (Legends? I can’t ever keep track.)  However we’ve only been shown Bacara (and by inference Cort Davin and his JP trainer cohort) using it, and the only word we’re ever given in it (that could find) is ‘tat’ for brother/sibling.  The permutations that show up in Soft Wars (or’tat for older brother, tat’ka for little brother, tate/or’tate/tat’kate as plurals) are all stuff either I or friends in Soft Wars Discord came up with.
Woo ok just did a quick research binge!  It has it’s page on starwars.fandom under Concordian, where it lists 3 known words and claims the languages are mutually intelligible and easy to understand by other dialect speakers.  Except on Bacara’s page it clearly says that it was difficult to communicate in Mando’a so I call some continuity error there.
Three known words: Tat, neyar (my) and gain (name).  Everything else is made up.
There’s also some kerfuffle on whether or not the Concordian spoken on Concord Dawn and the one spoken on Mandalore’s moon Concordia is the same thing?  Who knows...

Cuy’kaysh Dar - Cuy’val Dar Character Reference
I’m putting together a collection of info for Cuy’kaysh Dar and this is my draft of the Cuy’val Dar members
These were 100 people recruited by Jango to train the clones on Kamino, 75 who were Mandalorians. They disappeared from public life and many were presumed dead.
Some of what is here are headcanons or only specific for this fic. As of posting this, I have only used canonical members, but that may change and updates will specify if someone is an OC.
B’arin Apma
Mandalorian (True Mandalorian)
Trainer: Marksmanship and sniping
Relationships: Friends with Obi-Wan and various other trainers, has a husband back home who gets sent the money from the contract
Other: Severely lacking in self-preservation
Tumblr media
(Chaske Spencer)
Ben Cerasin
Force User from Coruscant
Trainer: Force techniques and working with Jedi
Relationships: Friends with various trainers, though closest to Mij, everyone assumes he’s been sleeping with Jango since at least the 4th year there, he trains and babysits Boba often and other than Jango is the only one to directly interact with Tyranus
Other: Former Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, he Fell to kill a Sith Lord and had to go on the run, maiming (and seemingly killing) multiple Jedi before being spotted by Jango and recruited.
Tumblr media
(Ewan McGregor)
Cort Davin -
Former Journeyman Protector from Concord Dawn
Trainer: ARC and commander
Relationships: A friend of Jango’s and sometimes-trainer of Boba’s, he’s controlled enough to also often deal with the Kaminoans directly
Other: Knew of Jaster Mereel from his Journeyman Protector days and had thought of becoming a Mandalorian and following his code for a long time
Tumblr media
(Manu Bennett)
Dred Priest
Mandalorian (Death Watch member)
Trainer: Hand-to-hand combat instructor
Relationships: In a very on-again-off-again relationship with Reau, doesn’t get along with many people, is actively hated by some other Cuy’val Dar
Other: Created an underground fight club of cadets called Battle Circle with Reau, that got some of the cadets severely injured and even killed. His clan split between the New Mandalorians and Death Watch after Jaster Mereel was made Mand’alor.
Tumblr media
(Joel Kinnaman)
Isabet Reau
Mandalorian (Death Watch member)
Trainer: Field Medicine
Relationships: In a very on-again-off-again relationship with Priest, doesn’t get along with many people
Other: Created an underground fight club of cadets called Battle Circle with Priest, fanatical about Mandalorian traditions, from an old Mandalorian clan almost wiped out by the New Mandalorian movement
Tumblr media
(Hindi Zahra)
Kal Skirata
Mandalorian
Trainer: Null-class trainer, special forces
Relationships: Worked often with Vau before being recruited, friends with Rav, knew Jango though they didn’t necessarily get along, he adopts his cadets, has a good working relationship with Obi-Wan
Others: His birth name was Falin Mattran, he was born on Kuat where his father was a Kuat Drive Yards engineer, he was orphaned at six and eventually found and adopted by the Mandalorian Munin Skirata. He married a non-Mandalorian who divorced him and took their three sons because she disagreed with Mandalorian upbringings.
Tumblr media
(Gil Birmingham)
Llats Ward
Mandalorian (True Mandalorian)
Trainer: Strategy and tactics
Relationships: Friends with Obi-Wan, has known Jango since they were kids (knew Jaster), sometimes teaches Boba
Other: A history buff, he’s studied and memorized as many of the major battles in Mandalorian history as possible, he often gets stuck with Obi-Wan’s grading because he sucks at gambling
Tumblr media
(Toby Kebbell)
Mij Gilamar
Mandalorian
Trainer: Medical
Relationships: Best friends with Obi-Wan, good friends with many of the cadets, especially Alpha-02 (Spar), even the ones not training to be medics
Other: He is an actual doctor. He became Mandalorian after falling in love with a Mandalorian woman, Tani Gilamar, but she was murdered and he’s been on a quest for vengeance since. Clan Gilamar was aligned with the True Mandalorians, which is how he knew Jango.
Tumblr media
(Peter Mensah)
Rav Bralor
Mandalorian
Trainer: Melee combat
Relationships: Close friends with Skirata from before recruitment, has taken some of the cadets under her wing
Other: Hates the Kaminoans and is not a fan of Jango, has a lot of family back on Mandalore, extremely competent and hates delays
Tumblr media
(Olivia Chen)
Vhonte Tervho
Mandalorian (True Mandalorian)
Trainer: Tracking and blasters
Relationships: Knew Jango from before when she was working as a mercenary, isn’t super social but no one actively hates her, helps to train Boba
Other: An expert hunter, well-known for her use of dual blasters, she has family and property back on Mandalore that she misses a lot
Tumblr media
(Helly Luv)
Wa’de Tay’haai
Mandalorian (True Mandalorian)
Trainer: Covert Ops and melee fighting
Relationships: Generally friendly, close to many of the cadets
Other: He uses a traditional spear (called a bevii'ragir) and a bes’bev (an instrument that can also be a weapon), he teaches many cadets to read music and play instruments along with a few of the other musically inclined trainers
Tumblr media
(Pua Magasiva)
Walon Vau
Mandalorian (True Mandalorian)
Trainer: Delta Squad trainer, melee combat and tracking
Relationships: Knew Jango and had worked with Skirata before Kamino
Other: Extremely violent towards the clones, has a pet strill named Lord Mirdalan
Tumblr media

Oooooooooooo Jango/Cort for 3. I just told you I liked you but now I’m shy and say “never mind, forget it” and why are you looking at me like that?
Kamino era confessions uwu
Jango says it in a kind of bleary delirium that only comes from a long day chasing pre-teens around and being thankful that he ground weapon etiquette into them so early on. His initial plan for the night had been the kind of time with Cort that left his thighs burning. But Cort had taken one look at him and set him on the sofa, the older Concordian sitting with him and stroking fingers through his short waves.
Jango says it and regrets it immediately, hiding his face in the arm of the sofa. “Sorry, never mind. Forget it.”
He can feel Cort’s eyes on him, and then his fingers on Jango’s wrist. “Jan’ka,” he says, hoarse and breathy, and when Jango turns his head back he smiles. “I’ve loved you since we were teenagers.”
It’s the best thing he could have said in that moment.
It’s the worst thing he could have said in that moment.
Jango hiccups.
He hasn’t cried since Boba first called him “bubu.” He hasn’t cried like this since Walon found him after he escaped the spice freighter.
Cort tugs him into his arms. “I should have told you back then,” he admits. “And now, here we are.”
On sterile, cold Kamino. Selling their souls.
“Ni motir juaan darasuum gi,” Cort tells him.
I will stand beside you, no matter what happens, until the end.
“Vor entye,” Jango breathes, pronouncing each syllable with purpose.
Cort kisses him.

Six Sentence Sunday
A bit more from upcoming FtRP Chapter 44:
“I’m not sure I understand what the problem is here.” Cort Davin looked up from the stats displayed on the datapad. “Why are these cadets slated for reprocessing?” The word tasted foul across his tongue: ‘reprocessing’ could mean one of five things and none of them were good.
Ko Sai folded her hands primly and looked down her nose at him. Behind the Kaminoan scientist, a rank of over a hundred cadets, three years old but twice as grown, stood at solemn attention in their blue uniforms. Cort hadn’t missed the fear flickering in their eyes, but what choice did they have?
