How about a Soft Wars Star Wars au where the Coruscant Guard does have a jedi assigned to them - multiple, actually. The Creche masters. They're bound to Coruscant, and the Coruscant Guard provide an excellent way for the little kids to go on big adventures to the nearby ice cream shop.

And the creche masters check in on the Coruscant Guard and treat them like people, which gets noticed by the various parents who also take their kids to the various dessert places that the Jedi travel to.

I want to see a little girl give Commander Fox a little care package. She put cookies, some fruit, and a little stuffed massiff in there for them. She's got a gap in her teeth and she wants to be just like them when she grows up. Her parent stands nearby, a little embarrassed to be bothering the guard, but hopeful that he'll humor the girl.

Fox has trouble finding the words to say, but manages to say something appropriately gracious. He accidentally promises to let her use some of their paint if she ever gets armor of her own. So. She's totally going to pout (and tooka-eye) her way into a miniature set of toy armor next chance she gets.

The stuffed massiff becomes the unofficial mascot of the Guard. They have a little chair for it and everything. (The chair was from a doll collector's collection - it got put into Guard lockup when the previous owner was found dead in their home, killed by a jilted lover. The chair was thought to be the murder weapon, but it was actually the dollhouse bed. Hound quietly kept the chair from going out to trash or to auction.)

One of the creche masters gives the Guard some extra blankets and also maybe sews them all quilts, that's a really nice mental image. The blankets are very soft and warm, well-worn fabric imbued with the joy of generations of younglings.

The blankets were originally for Grizzer, but the Guard took them instead. There are a few spots and stains that never quite washed out, but they don't care. They're nicer than anything else they've ever slept on, and they even have fewer nightmares. Productivity goes up, too, so they're able to justify it. Not that anyone asks, but just in case.

The Coruscant Guard is still eternally exhausted and emotionally abused by politicians, but they have a bright spot now in their dreary lives. And maybe the creche masters send them audiobooks to listen to while on shift. And one time, a creche master instinctively used their preschooler voice on a senator who was being snotty to one of the Guard, and the senators are maybe just a little less likely to be insulting in the Senate Dome. You never know if a Jedi might be nearby, and that would be mortifying.

"Remember, we don't use our no-no voice with our friends" or something like that. Senator Whatsface never lives it down.

I want to see a very soft helping hand help lift the Guard up, but also a slow tread up that incline. It takes time to heal those kinds of wounds, but having Jedi allies from the beginning could also help keep it from getting quite so bad in the first place.

It also totally boosts the Guard's reputation among the common citizens of Coruscant - instead of being weird guards that just stand around, they're the bodyguards that sit patiently and offer color composition advice while little baby Jedi plaster fingerpaint all over their nicely-painted torsos. It's hard not to warm up to someone when you see that.

I never had any urge to keep my stuffed animals after childhood but I have a hand warmer/pillow shaped like a very round plush that I love.

That is such a hard ask. I guess it's whatever the person thought to do, though I love practical gifts, so a playlist or something that can be used I like better than something that's only for decoration.

Hi, Dove!!

Okay, so this fic is in like. Three separate drafts in three separate documents, it’s all a hot mess but one day it WILL venture out into the world. Here is a snippet from one of my word-spill sessions. Enjoy!

Rex calls home. What’s this he hears about, from Hardcase who heard it from Vaughn who heard it from Bossi?

You… uhhhhh… introduce him. To the puppy. That you are FOSTERING. And will be donating to the Littles compound in the city once it’s trained.

Rex remarks that it takes a while to train dogs, from what he’s heard.

Rex is on Coruscant. Oh no. Is his signal breaking up? Oh nooooo…

You go to bed.

You wake up to find the puppy conspicuously not in his blanket nest.

You hurriedly dress to find Neyo playing with your dog - playing with your foster dog, you mean - in your living room. He’s asking you why you haven’t introduced him to his nephew yet. You protest that he’s not your dog. Or son.

Neyo gives you a smug, superior look. You resist the urge to throw him out the window. We shouldn’t perform violence in front of the children after all.

You may, at some point during the week, include some of Rex’s shirts and clothes in the blanket nest. Just to familiarize the pup with his scent.

The vaccinations get in. Your wildlife specialist calls in your CMO to administer the hypos. Oh, he bitches and moans, but you catch him slipping treats to the pup when he thinks you aren’t looking.

Clearly, I am a master of my craft.

Do you have any recommendations for Star Wars fics on AO3? Preferably something that *doesn't* focus on Rey or Kylo Ren. Thank you!

My number one top recommendation at the moment is the Soft Wars universe: https://archiveofourown.org/series/1683775

Nothing is chronological and most everything is self contained, so you can pick and choose which bits you want to read, if you're only interested in one set of characters, etc. Very clone-centric, and it does feature clone/clone relationships, so if that's not your bag of tea I'd recommend skipping it.

Congratulations on finishing your finals!!! A Soft Wars story i have eventual designs for is: Post-OVD, while Rex is offworld one day, Bacara of Nova adopts a stray puppy he finds while walking home from the docks. Nova Clan Shenanigans ensue. By the time Rex returns home to CD, the puppy has already claimed a favorite spot on the couch, the porch swing, AND the bed. It also has at least three formal godparents (Neyo, Krestor, and Bossi amongst them).

oh my gosh I'd adore reading a fic about Bacara adopting a puppy. I loved the fic with him interacting with NNT and I love every time someone writes him interacting with kids. He'd absolutely dote on that puppy. "I'm sorry Rex, your side of the bed has been taken, but I guess you can share my side of the bed with me"

also, I love the idea of Keller and maybe a few other Marines deciding that the puppy should be trained as a service animal for Bacara or at least an emotional support animal. He'd deserve that.

Neyo, Bossi, and Krestor competing over who will be the best godparents to this puppy and the shenanigans that occur due to this competition

The Wayne manor is not a quiet place.

Someone Is always doing something, talking about anything, teasing, bantering, playfully slandering, so Bruce grew accustomed to noise. Its hard not to, with his nest of birds.

But this particular topic has him on mute;

"Why do YOU get him when he's old?"

" Oh my GOD, Jason, I'm LITERALLY the oldest. You ALWAYS have to get everything!"

Jason isn't at all interested in Dick's dramatics. He wraps all 6'4 inches around Bruce's leg like an affectionate leech. "You're the fucking meanest! You'll probably feed B those gross ass protein shakes and force him to watch re runs of Realest Housewives of Gotham!"

"YOU TRIED TO BLOW HIM UP!"

Cass is strong like a tsunami and silent as a snake, jumping on Bruce's back, beautiful eyes full of threat. " Dad stays. Mine."

Bruce pipes up, " I have a retirement plan--"

"Getting railed everyday at the Kent farm isn't a retirement!"

Tim gives Steph a look of disgust. "Gross."

Damian isn't above pulling out his swords. " If I don't get Baba, everyone is dying. Me included. "

"Damian. What did I say about threatening your siblings with murder?" Bruce asks expectantly.

" Oh, I'm not threatening, baba. I'm making a vow."

Alfred doesn't pry his attention from the chamomile tea he's preparing. " Master Bruce stays with me."

"...Alfred, I don't think you'll...You know, be around when Bruce retires--"

"Was that a contradiction?"

They all gulp. The argument is settled quickly, and Bruce spends the rest of his evening with head on Alfred's lap and his hand in Jason's hair, petting like a cat, and listening to RHOG on the TV.

He loves the noise.
