Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Looping Inconsistencies
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with the new inclusion of Ken they had also added the complete soundtracks of Street Fighter II! I was excited to find out that Boxer's theme was going to be added in Smash Bros. along with the other amazing OST of both the CPSI (Type A) and CPSII (Type B). In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate the music also acts the same way as it does in SFII, as if you are on your last stock or below a specific percentage in stamina mode the "Near K.O." (Pinch) version begins to play which is awesome until you notice that the music is looping incorrectly. The best example to hear this in is with DeeJay's theme CPSII (Type B) version. In the 1st audio clip is the original arcade version from SSF2:NC, however in the 2nd audio clip it's ripped from Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the the easiest way to hear the loop is with the Cymbal crash on the Smash version after the 1st loop of the song .

On that note if you put a gun to my head and told me to rank the late-stage CPSII-III Capcom fighting game pixel art I’m giving it to Darkstalkers
SFIII is great but a little underbaked in places and limited by the art style and designs that were possible on previous games’ hardware, and Heritage for the Future, while an incredible translation of Araki’s style given the hardware, is inconsistent in style from character to character (compare High Priestess to Kakyoin & Hierophant, it’s pretty extreme)
Darkstalkers isn’t always as fluid as the other two, but the character designs are super distinctive and the sheer amount of effort that went into making them individualized is better than most games, to the point that I’m impressed even if I don’t think the character designs are necessarily always coming from a place I appreciate (i.e. the same place literally every other fighting game comes from)
All the weird supers have special sprites for every character getting hit by them and then there’s just the sheer amount of sprites characters have for all their different moves, so there’s rarely the HftF thing where moves are just slowed down versions of each other with longer hitstun, and they all just have so much stuff to actually do compared to SFIII
But to be totally honest if you asked me tomorrow I might say Heritage for the Future because it really is impressive just how well it captures the Araki style, especially his crazy El Greco silhouettes, and some of the characters are just fantastic (Jotaro, Dio, High Priestess, and Chaka especially).
I just have a lot of respect for whoever was working at Capcom around this time, because there’s really nothing else on the level that they were doing here. I know that late-stage KOF and ArcSys games do pixels well too, but at that stage there’s none of the hardware limitations that drive what makes pixel art good, and it’s so much work for games with comparatively stilted, samey animations that don’t come close to what people were doing 20 years earlier with a 384 x 224 screen
Like, I’m not even bothered that late-stage KOF is rotoscoped 3D models, or that P4A is pixels over drawn anime, cause they're good ways to standardize the art and avoid HftF-esque problems, but it’s obviously not animated nearly as much as Capcom’s CPSII-III stuff
Anyway I’m just really passionate about pixel art
