Rage Reworked
Rage is a really fun class feature, but it could be better.
With the 2024 player's handbook, Wizards of the Coast have been moving towards rage being an 'always on' feature. Sure you've still got limited uses, but not only can you use a bonus action to keep it up (so you don't need to just hit or be hit) and use it more out of combat, you get an extra use back on a short rest, and most importantly, it now lasts for 10 minutes.
10 minutes.
With a bonus action, it seems clear to me that the intent is for barbarians to sneak around a dungeon while raging, which doesn't really feel thematic for me. In fact I know that's the intent because a later feature lets barbarians use strength for stealth while raging.
Generally this just seems to me that the intent is to make sure barbarians never run out of rages, and in that case, why still have limited uses? It doesn't make sense for me that a barbarian could just, not get angry when they've gotten angry twice today. Combining this with my other rage tweaks, I propose a solution, I propose:
Frenzy
1st-level barbarian feature, which optionally replaces the Rage feature
In battle, you fight with primal ferocity. On your turn, you can enter a frenzy as a bonus action.
While in frenzy and not wearing heavy armor, you gain the following benefits:
You have advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws.
You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity, the weight you can push, drag, or lift, and creatures you can push or grapple.
When you make a melee weapon attack using Strength, you gain a +2 bonus to the damage roll. This bonus increases as you level.
You have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.
At  11th level, you also have resistance to force damage.
You ignore the Fatigued condition
You are unable to cast or concentrate on spells while in frenzy, except for any free casts of leveled spells you have gained through your race.
Your frenzy lasts for 1 minute. It ends early if you are knocked unconscious or if your turn ends and you haven't attacked a hostile creature, taken damage, cast a spell, or made a strength check since your last turn.
When you end a frenzy, you gain the fatigued condition. Finishing a short rest removes 1 of your levels of fatigue, and finishing a long rest removes a number of levels of fatigue equal to your constitution modifier (minimum 1).
Fatigued
While you are subjected to the Fatigued condition you experience the following effects:
Levels of Fatigue. This Condition is cumulative. Each time you receive it, you gain 1 level of fatigue. You die if your fatigue level exceeds 10.
d20 Rolls Affected. When you make a d20 Test, you subtract your fatigue level from the d20 roll.
Spell Save DCs Affected. Subtract your fatigue level from the Spell save DC of any Spell you cast.
Speed Affected. Your movement speed is reduced by 5 feet for every two fatigue levels you have.
Ending the Condition. Finishing a Long Rest removes 1 of your levels of fatigue. When your fatigue level reaches 0, you are no longer fatigued.
Technically this isn't completely resourceless, you're still having to track your fatigue, but Frenzy feels a lot more thematic to me. So what are the changes and why?
Fatigue vs Limited Uses. I've already mentioned feeling that limited uses doesn't feel right for a barbarian, but the idea of fatigue, where pushing yourself into rage has physical rammifications (that you can ignore while raging) feels thematic, and while yes it's technically limited by the death level for fatigue, pushing yourself so far that you literally die from anger feels more thematic than just, not being able to rage any more. Also 'extra uses' being losing fatigue from resting also just feels like it makes sense for a barbarian.
Force Resistance. For reasons I've discussed a few times before, I feel with the move in high CR monster design away from B/P/S damage, barbarians absolutely need force resistance at later levels so they can keep being the tank they're meant to.
Spells and Strength. Playing a barbarian genasi or tiefling just feels bad, they're really fun combinations (just look at the love Karlach's gotten), but you can't cast spells in rage, so what's the point in having them, well, letting racial spells be cast in frenzy (and continue it) makes those combinations feel a lot better. Additionally, rage continuing from Strength checks lets you use your rage to push and grapple in combat, or move things around outside it without having to worry about it ending early (DMs could rule that raging them pulling something is only one strength check, I'd say you're still making them after the first, but they're low enough you'd automatically pass, your milage may vary)
No Bonus Action to End. Rage ending as a bonus action also always felt weird to me thematically and I've never seen it come up, so Frenzy... doesn't. if you want to stop your fury, you have to take time to calm down, you can't just stop easily.
Counting as Larger. This is another thing where it just feels like barbarians should already get it, you're a raging juggernaut, you should be able to grapple T-Rexes and push away adult dragons!

Chapter 4
Chapter 5: Duh
Monday morning is a little chaotic as you try to find your laptop charger and a few other items. Jake and you end up leaving about the same time, you headed north in Lil Blue, the Honda CR-V and Jake headed to the base on his bike.
You arrive in Bakersfield on time and are immediately slammed into meetings, finally it's 5 pm and you are headed to the hotel to check in. You had stopped by a deli and grabbed a sandwich on yourway over, your desire to go anywhere at zero.
You eat your sandwich and then head to the gym. The workout is nice and works off all the pent up energy from the hours in the car and the meetings.
Just as you're heading up to your room you get a text from Jake.
Jake: I left you a little gift in the bottom of your bag. 😉
You: Should I be concerned?
Jake: Yes
Jake: In a good way.
You enter your room and your curiosity is killing you. You go directly to your bag and rifle through till you feel a boxy object in the bottom. Pulling it out you laugh in surprise, it's a Bluetooth/WiFi enabled vibrating egg, a sex toy and a bottle of lube. There's a sticky note attached to it.
El,
Something to make our night more fun. I already downloaded the app and synced it to your phone. (Might want change your pin to something less obvious, aerospace nerd. 1969 the year of the moon landing.) Call me when you're ready.
-J
You roll your eyes at his jab at your security code, smartly everything you use for work requires your fingerprint. After a quick shower you get comfortable on the bed. You hadn't bother getting dressed. The app, discreetly named Egg Timer, which makes you laugh a little, is discreetly tucked on the last page of your phone.
As you open the app up the egg vibrates in your hand. There's a simple remote with intensity and vibrating patterns on it. You test them out to get an idea of what it's capable of. There's a little box at the bottom that says, "Other Users: J". Your phone dings and there's a text from Jake.
It's a photo of Jake, looking down at his abs with one hand just under the waistband of his boxer briefs cupping his cock under the fabric. His golden treasure trail and thick veins of his arms are visible in the photo. Sexy but not pornographic. The picture makes you shift on the bed and rub your thighs together in anticipation. The slick starts to gather between your legs and you are definitely ready to call Jake.
He answers quickly.
"Hello, El," he purrs.
"This is quite the gift here, Jake" you reply.
He laughs,
"I thought you'd like it. Fun fact, I can control it from here."
It comes to life in your hand.
"Ooh, interesting."
"What are you wearing, El?"
"Nothing, just laying here naked, fresh out of the shower. You?"
Jake groans softly, no doubt imagining your slightly wet skin and hair laid out on the bed. Your dark hair a delicious contrast to the generic white hotel sheets.
"Just that featured pair of underwear," he finally answers.
"A nice choice," you reply, trying to sound sultry and tamper the neediness you feel rising you,
"I think you have a plan for tonight, am I right?"
There's a light chuckle at the other end of the phone,
"Yes, I do. You have the toy and the lube nearby?"
"Yes," you answer, getting a little more breathless as you rub your thighs together.
"We'll get there, you just wanted you to be ready for when we do. I miss you right now, El. I want to feel your lips on mine, kiss every inch of you, taste you, feel you around my cock, and watch you come. I want you to touch yourself and tell you what you're imagining. I want to know how you make yourself come."
"I start by running my hands over myself, play with my tits, pinch my nipples, anything but going straight to my pussy."
Jake moans lightly on the other end of the phone.
"Then I finally start touching my pussy, but still not touching my clit or using any fingers inside me, just teasing myself a little bit."
"Go on," Jake breathes out more than saying.
"Next I'll test how wet I am and if I need some lube."
You dip a finger inside your slit and find that you are wet, not as wet if Jake were here with you.
"Are you wet, El?"
You add another finger,
"Yes, Jake, I'm wet. Not like you make me but enough."
He groans at the praise,
"This is a good time for that lube and you to use that toy."
You open the bottle of lube and apply some to your hand that you sweep over your clit and the rest of your pussy. Next coat the toy and gently push it inside your pussy.
You let out a little sigh of relief,
"I just put the toy inside me, it feels good, but it just makes you want your cock more, this isn't big enough."
"You'll have to wait till you get home for the good stuff," Jake laughs.
"Now, I'm touching my clit."
"What are you thinking about, what's turning you on?"
"I'm thinking of the time we fucked against the wall after we teased each other the whole way back from the beach. I thought about you fucking you against a wall when you lifted me up at that game. It made me wet right then and there, I almost dropped the ball at the thought of it."
"You were already thinking about you fucking you on the first date, dirty girl."
The toy starts to vibrate at a gentle steady hum and you can't suppress the moan of surprise and pleasure.
"Oh, ohhhh," you pant.
"Feeling stimulated?" Jake asks, you can hear the cockiness in his smile even through the phone.
"Yes."
"Keep talking, El."
"I'm thinking of how much I want your tongue on you and the though of you between my legs eating me out."
There is a slight hitch in his breath and you know Jake is touching himself.
"I'm also thinking about things I want to do with you, like let you tie me up and do anything you want. Maybe add a blindfold and have you tease me till I'm frustrated with need and then you release all your pent up lust on me and make us both come at the same time."
The vibration from the toy gets more intense.
You let out a long moan,
"Jake, that feels so good."
The intensity notches up again and a pulsing pattern starts up. Your fingers are working harder at your clit and your brain is starting to short circuit and your thoughts are coming out of your mouth in a jumble.
"I love it when you fuck me from behind, slap my ass, so good," you stutter.
Jake's moans are coming louder and closer together.
"Ready, El, ready to come?"
"Please, please, let you come," you plead.
The toy changes patterns and yet another higher intensity. That combined with Jake's low command,
"Come, El, come for me,"
you break apart.
"Oh God, oh shit," you spit out before a long low moan comes from you as you spasm around the toy.
Jake makes the sound, a strangled moan, he usually makes when he comes on the other end of the phone.
You feel the toy slowing down inside you gently until it is off.
"I really liked this idea, as you can tell," you let Jake know.
"I figured it might work. The idea of being so far from you and still controlling your pleasure is a sexy one. Just about any thought you have about you is a sexy one," he says softly.
"Ditto, I'm going to let you go, sweet dreams, Jake. Love you."
"Love you,too, El."
You clean up and crawl back into bed falling asleep quickly.
Tuesday is a typical day with more meetings, some flight demonstrations, and some material demonstrations. The new heat shielding is showing promise for the next version of Darkstar.
You stay out a little later on Tuesday with your coworkers as you know Jake is out catching up with a few buddies who are in San Diego. Finally night comes and you fall asleep half in the book you're reading.
Wednesday morning luckily flies by and you're on the road at a decent time and headed home. You try not to break any land speed records and drive responsibly. Your house is a welcome sight when you pull up to the curb. Grabbing your bags you head into the house. The house is dark and quiet. You do a tour through the rooms to see if Jake is anywhere. When you don't find him, you feel let down. You grab a glass of water and sit down on the couch trying to relax. You're leaning back trying to get comfy and when the thought hits you and you spring forward.
You weren't racing to get back to your house, you were racing to get back to Jake. It's then you realize that you're ready to live together, not this almost thing you've been doing for months. You want this house to be your home with Jake. The idea of seeing Jake everyday when you get home and wake up to him every morning is making your heart full. You also realize that you've been a bit of an idiot to realize it now, when it's been here the whole time.
You call Jake, he answers on the first ring.
"Hello, El."
"Hello, Jake."
"Are you back in town? I missed you."
"I am and I missed you too. Do you mind coming over? I've got something important to talk to you about."
"Umm, you can do that babe. Is everything alright?" he asks, a slight hint of doubt in his voice.
"Oh yeah, that sounds ominous. It's a good thing, I promise."
While you wait for Jake to arrive, you change out of your work clothes and put a few things away from your overnight bag. The toy and lube go into a drawer in the night stand near the bed. Pretty soon, you hear Jake unlocking the front door and calling out,
"El, I'm here."
You walk out of your bedroom and greet him with a crushing hug and a kiss. He wraps his arms around you and he says,
"I missed you," into your hair.
"Me too," you answer back from where your head is tucked into his neck.
He pulls back and asks,
"What did you want to talk about?" His usually calm demeanor betraying a hint of nervousness.
You lead Jake over to the couch to sit down. Taking his hands in yours, you start talking,
"I drove as fast as I could today to get back here, because I thought I wanted to be home, but when I got here and you weren't around, this house just felt empty and lonely. I realized that I nearly got a speeding ticket so I could be back with you as soon as possible. I wanted to see your smiling face when I walked in the door. I want to come home to you everyday. Jake, I want us to live together, if you're ready for that."
The nervousness has dissolved from his face and is now replaced by a wide gorgeous smile. He picks up one of your hands and kisses it.
"I would love to live here with you and I'm definitely ready for that. I am over the moon that you asked, also relieved that this talk wasn't about something scary or unpleasant."
"Sorry to worry you, but it didn't seem like the thing to ask about over the phone."
He draws you for one of his all encompassing hugs and says,
"This is going to be our home," and squeezes you a little harder.
"What about rent, utilities, groceries, etc. I'll pay my share," he asks.
"So, there is no rent. I own the house outright."
"Really?" Jake's eyes wide with surprise,
"The government might want to reconsider what they're paying Lockheed Martin. I'm kidding, but wow that's an accomplishment."
You shrug,
"It was a convergence of extremely good circumstances, I had a large inheritance from my Mom's sister who passed and didn't have any kids or other nieces or nephews. I found this place as kind of a fixer upper and put a lot of sweat equity in, etc. So what we can split is the utilities, taxes, and groceries. We can work out a budget tomorrow. I'd give you a key as a symbolic gesture, but you already have one."
"That and you already have the key to your heart."
You give him a small laugh for the corny line,
"So, what do you need to do to get out of your quarters on base?" you ask.
"Not much, let the powers that be know I'll be out by the end of the month, pack up my stuff, which I think half of it is already here, so that won't take long."
"Awesome, let me know how I can help," you say as you move to straddle Jake's lap.
Taking his face into your hands you give Jake a deep kiss, and say.
"Jake, I'm so happy you said yes."
"El, I'm happy you asked."

Note
I love how deltarune makes us a character by taking away our self made self insert, plonking us into Kris, and continuing to address us directly, but the implications of that are very interesting.
Deltarune is a game on my laptop, and is also the home of all the characters I’ve grown attached to. Are all the other games on my hard drive, to them, other timelines I’ve been to?
Anyways nice art
Uhhhhhhhhh sorry I don't really know what I am supposed to say here…!
(Actually, because of this Ask, I wrote 2500+ words about Decisions and Choices in Deltarune even though it's not really related to what you wrote at all...) ...maybe I'll post it later... I posted parts of it on Twitter just to test the water...
Addressing the second part about 'different timelines'… Whatever medium it is, I think humans can find a way to pass on a story.
Tumblr media
If I didn't have video games and TV/Movies, there would still be books that would transport me into another world. Stories "let you learn things through another's eyes". So I think I understand how you feel. You grow attached to those worlds/timelines, the characters in them... but they're not real. But that's okay, you can take what you learned from them and use them in the world/timeline you're currently in.
Side note, when I first played Deltarune I thought the Dark World was pretty neat, but I loved Home Town the most. Even though most of the game is spent in the Dark World…
I started off saying I don't know what to say, then I wrote a bunch of cr*p.
Anyways thanks for the compliment about my art as well :) I appreciate it.

@powpowhammer I think i posted this at one point but if not, enjoy
§1. Colonies of webs. Social spiders are said to form "colonies" when their webs are shared,¹ and in that spirit, a colony to Inweb is a collection of coexisting webs — which share no code, and in that sense have no connection at run-time, but which need to be cross-referenced in their woven form, so that readers can easily turn from one to another.
¹ Those curious to see what a colony of 110,000,000 spiders might be like to walk through should see Albert Greene et al., "An Immense Concentration of Orb-Weaving Spiders With Communal Webbing in a Man-Made Structural Habitat (Arachnida: Araneae: Tetragnathidae, Araneidae)", American Entomologist (Fall 2010), at: https://www.entsoc.org/PDF/2010/Orb-weaving-spiders.pdf ↩ (Nightpool note: link is dead, but available from https://bdthisis.files.wordpress.com/2014/11/greeneetal-2010-orbweavingspiders.pdf)
§2. So, then, a colony is really just a membership list:
typedef struct colony { struct linked_list *members; of colony_member struct text_stream *home; path of home repository struct pathname *assets_path; where assets shared between weaves live struct pathname *patterns_path; where additional patterns live CLASS_DEFINITION } colony;
The structure colony is private to this section.
§3. Each member is represented by an instance of the following. Note the loaded field: this holds metadata on the web/module in question. (Recall that a module is really just a web that doesn't tangle to an independent program but to a library of code: for almost all purposes, it's a web.) But for efficiency's sake, we read this metadata only on demand.
Note that the path might be either the name of a single-file web, or of a directory holding a multi-section web.
typedef struct colony_member { int web_rather_than_module; TRUE for a web, FALSE for a module struct text_stream *name; the N in N at P in W struct text_stream *path; the P in N at P in W struct pathname *weave_path; the W in N at P in W struct text_stream *home_leaf; usually index.html, but not for single-file webs struct text_stream *default_weave_pattern; for use when weaving struct web_md *loaded; metadata on its sections, lazily evaluated struct filename *navigation; navigation sidebar HTML struct linked_list *breadcrumb_tail; of breadcrumb_request CLASS_DEFINITION } colony_member;
The structure colony_member is accessed in 2/trs, 4/prp, 4/jsn, 5/mrk, 5/mv, 5/im, 1/cnf, 1/ts, 3/tc, 5/wt, 6/cs, 6/rw and here.
§4. And the following reads a colony file F and produces a suitable colony object from it. This, for example, is the colony file for the Inweb repository at GitHub:
home: inweb/docs assets: inweb/docs/docs-assets navigation: inweb/docs-src/nav.html pattern: GitHubPages breadcrumbs: none web: "overview" at "inweb/docs-src/index.inweb" in "inweb/docs" breadcrumbs: "Home: //overview//" web: "inweb" at "inweb" in "inweb/docs/inweb" module: "foundation" at "inweb/foundation-module" in "inweb/docs/foundation-module" web: "foundation-test" at "inweb/foundation-test" in "inweb/docs/foundation-test" web: "goldbach" at "inweb/Examples/goldbach" in "inweb/docs/goldbach" web: "twinprimes" at "inweb/Examples/twinprimes.inweb" in "inweb/docs/twinprimes" web: "eastertide" at "inweb/Examples/eastertide" in "inweb/docs/eastertide" web: "intest" at "intest" in "intest/docs" web: "inform" at "inform/docs-src/index.inweb" in "inform/docs"
typedef struct colony_reader_state {   struct colony *province;   struct filename *nav;   struct linked_list *crumbs; of breadcrumb_request   struct text_stream *pattern; } colony_reader_state; void Colonies::load(filename *F) {   colony *C = CREATE(colony);   C->members = NEW_LINKED_LIST(colony_member);   C->home = I"docs";   C->assets_path = NULL;   C->patterns_path = NULL;   colony_reader_state crs;   crs.province = C;   crs.nav = NULL;   crs.crumbs = NEW_LINKED_LIST(breadcrumb_request);   crs.pattern = NULL;   TextFiles::read(F, FALSE, "can't open colony file",   TRUE, Colonies::read_line, NULL, (void *) &crs); }
The structure colony_reader_state is accessed in 1/ts, 3/tc, 5/fm, 5/tf, 5/hf and here.
§5. Lines from the colony file are fed, one by one, into:
void Colonies::read_line(text_stream *line, text_file_position *tfp, void *v_crs) {     colony_reader_state *crs = (colony_reader_state *) v_crs;     colony *C = crs->province;     Str::trim_white_space(line);  ignore trailing space     if (Str::len(line) == 0) return;  ignore blank lines     if (Str::get_first_char(line) == '#') return;  lines opening with # are comments     match_results mr = Regexp::create_mr();     if (Regexp::match(&mr, line, U"(%c*?): \"*(%C+)\" at \"(%c*)\" in \"(%c*)\"")) {         colony_member *CM = CREATE(colony_member);         if (Str::eq(mr.exp[0], I"web")) CM->web_rather_than_module = TRUE;         else if (Str::eq(mr.exp[0], I"module")) CM->web_rather_than_module = FALSE;         else {             CM->web_rather_than_module = FALSE;             Errors::in_text_file("text before ':' must be 'web' or 'module'", tfp);         }         CM->name = Str::duplicate(mr.exp[1]);         CM->path = Str::duplicate(mr.exp[2]);         CM->home_leaf = Str::new();         if (Str::suffix_eq(CM->path, I".inweb", 6)) {             filename *F = Filenames::from_text(CM->path);             Filenames::write_unextended_leafname(CM->home_leaf, F);             WRITE_TO(CM->home_leaf, ".html");         } else {             WRITE_TO(CM->home_leaf, "index.html");         }         CM->weave_path = Pathnames::from_text(mr.exp[3]);         CM->loaded = NULL;         CM->navigation = crs->nav;         CM->breadcrumb_tail = crs->crumbs;         CM->default_weave_pattern = Str::duplicate(crs->pattern);         ADD_TO_LINKED_LIST(CM, colony_member, C->members);     } else if (Regexp::match(&mr, line, U"home: *(%c*)")) {         C->home = Str::duplicate(mr.exp[0]);     } else if (Regexp::match(&mr, line, U"assets: *(%c*)")) {         C->assets_path = Pathnames::from_text(mr.exp[0]);     } else if (Regexp::match(&mr, line, U"patterns: *(%c*)")) {         C->patterns_path = Pathnames::from_text(mr.exp[0]);     } else if (Regexp::match(&mr, line, U"pattern: none")) {         crs->pattern = NULL;     } else if (Regexp::match(&mr, line, U"pattern: *(%c*)")) {         crs->pattern = Str::duplicate(mr.exp[0]);     } else if (Regexp::match(&mr, line, U"navigation: none")) {         crs->nav = NULL;     } else if (Regexp::match(&mr, line, U"navigation: *(%c*)")) {         crs->nav = Filenames::from_text(mr.exp[0]);     } else if (Regexp::match(&mr, line, U"breadcrumbs: none")) {         crs->crumbs = NEW_LINKED_LIST(breadcrumb_request);     } else if (Regexp::match(&mr, line, U"breadcrumbs: *(%c*)")) {         crs->crumbs = NEW_LINKED_LIST(breadcrumb_request);         match_results mr2 = Regexp::create_mr();         while (Regexp::match(&mr2, mr.exp[0], U"(\"%c*?\") > (%c*)")) {             Colonies::add_crumb(crs->crumbs, mr2.exp[0], tfp);             Str::clear(mr.exp[0]); Str::copy(mr.exp[0], mr2.exp[1]);         }         Colonies::add_crumb(crs->crumbs, mr.exp[0], tfp);     } else {         Errors::in_text_file("unable to read colony member", tfp);     }     Regexp::dispose_of(&mr); }
sorry again about the syntax highlighting. you can see the real thing here https://ganelson.github.io/inweb/inweb/6-cln.html with links and everything

Okay nobody explicitly stated that they wanted to see the terrible MS paint references I was using while writing Oversight but the post did get a few likes so I'll take that as a reason to post them. The references for what Rev and Ace were wearing in Oversight chapter 3 will be in another post due to this one being a bit larger than I expected.
Okay, here's the map of Loonatics HQ on planet Blanc that I'm using for my Magnetic Attraction series:
Tumblr media
As you can see, I used a lot of abbreviations, 1 because I wasn't actually planning on showing anyone this, and 2 because writing letters with a mouse in MS Paint is hard. I'll go over what they are but it's going under the cut so I don't flood people's dashes.
-Northwest corner:
QR: Quiet Room. A completely soundproofed room for meditation, concentration, and relaxation. Frequented most by Ace and Lexi.
PD: Patio Door.
GR: Gaming Room. A large space filled with many fun things to do. In the center is a circular table perfect for board games that is rarely used thanks to every member of the team being too competitive to play them without causing wanton destruction.
LR: Living Room. A more preferable area for movie marathons and gaming sessions than the lounge thanks to it being away from major walking areas.
DR: Dining Room. Mostly used for special occasions as everyone on the team prefers to eat in the living room or lounge.
K: Kitchen. Frequented most by Slam.
DS: Dry Storage. Where dry food is stored in bulk.
F (light blue): Walk in Freezer. Where frozen food is stored in bulk.
F (azure blue): Walk in Fridge. ...You get it.
-Southwest corner:
B: Bathroom. Each team member has their own personal bathroom.
C: Closet. Each team member has their own walk in closet.
A, D, S, L, R, and T: The rooms of Ace, Duck, Slam, Lexi, Rev, and Tech respectively. All their rooms, including their closets and bathrooms, are soundproofed for everyone and especially Lexi's sake.
S: Staircase. Leads to the roof.
SC: Storage Closet. Filled with various supplies somewhat relevant to the west wing of the base.
CE: Courtyard Entrance/Exit.
P: Pool. A decently sized swimming pool. Frequented most (and never cleaned) by Duck.
CR: Changing Room. Place to change in and out of swimsuits with privacy.
LR: Laundry Room.
FE: Front Entrance/Exit.
-Central area and courtyard:
St: Storage. For supplies relevant to the entire base.
S: Stairs. Leads to the basement floors and roof.
E: Elevator. See directly above.
BE: Back Entrance/Exit. Main exit to get the the outdoor field, driving course, and running track. Tech can sometimes be found there testing any of his inventions that are too dangerous to test inside.
B: Bathroom. A bathroom in the central area that's more accessible to visitors. Soundproofed for Lexi's sake.
GS: Gadget Storage. Where all of the team's most frequently used gadgets are stored so they can be easily grabbed before missions.
ME: Main Entrance. The preferred and most scenic way to enter HQ.
L: Lounge. A simple setup with three sofas, a coffee table, and TV. The preferred place to relax and chat with other team members between missions due to it's central location and proximity to multiple exits. The TV area indents a gentle slope leading to a great view of the courtyard.
UPG: Underground Parking Garage. The entrance and exit to the parking area under the main floor.
Courtyard: In the center of the entire base is a courtyard featuring evenly trimmed grass, multiple topiary trees, and decorative fountains. Nicely paved walkways lead over the driveways leading into and out of the parking garage.
-Northeast corner:
GD: Garage Door. Exits directly from the garage onto the driving course.
G: Garage. Where Tech makes most of his vehicles and larger inventions. Has exits to the driving course, parking garage, and roof. Has a security mode that stops Duck from teleporting in and soundproofs the room to prevent Lexi from getting a migraine while Tech is working.
Lab: Tech's laboratory, complete with incomprehensible machinery, too many monitors, and a safety shower. Contains the same anti-Duck shielding and pro-Lexi soundproofing security mode as the garage. As expected, Tech practically lives there and sometimes has to be coaxed out with food and coffee.
-Southeast corner:
CE: Courtyard Entrance/Exit.
S: Stairs. Leads to the roof.
SC: Storage Closet. Filled with supplies somewhat relevant to the east wing of the base.
WR: Weight Room. Filled with plenty of weights and exercise machines to keep the team in fighting condition.
VT CR: Virtual Trainer Control Room. Room for controlling the virtual trainer.
VT: Virtual Trainer. Combat training room that uses highly advanced virtual reality technology. Definitely has never been used for at-home vacations or VR video games. Never.
FE: Front Entrance/Exit.
SH: Sparring hall. Classic sparring hall complete with training weapons and an inbuilt speaker system for playing action music.
-Not featured on the map:
Underground Parking Garage: Where the team parks their vehicles, all of which were created by Tech.
2nd basement: Basement one level under the parking garage. Not much is notable on this floor except for a storage room that's been abandoned due to the door being broken. Tech would normally fix it, but it slips his mind in favor of more important projects.
Roof: Level on top of the main floor. Mainly used by Tech for testing aerial vehicles and drones, but is sometimes used by other team members for sunbathing and stargazing.
Back Outdoor Area: The area outside the base to the north that features a driving course for testing Tech's vehicles, a running track for outdoor exercise, and an open field for outdoor activities or Tech's more dangerous experiments.
Surrounding Security Shield: A fancy high tech barrier surrounding the entire base that keeps out intruders. Looks like a normal high class fence when not actively stopping people from breaking in. The front entrance features a security check-in that purely uses remote or manually inputted codes for entry, rather than the optional facial scanners that Loonatics Tower had on Acmetropolis.
-
I definitely put more effort into planning out the Loonatics' Blanc HQ than I probably should've, but, whatever I guess. It was fun enough to do, and I hope literally anyone cares so this entire post wasn't a waste of time.

After all the cr*p I've been through the last few years I've decided to try and finally get back into cosplay! And one character I've probably wanted to cosplay since I was a kid is Felina Feral from Swat Kats.
This is just a test run for the wig, but I hope to post more in my Instagram @/SharkSmirk

Week 1 - Initial ideas
Week 1 was somewhat uneventful in the manner that I wasn’t working on any prototype just yet, instead trying to brainstorm ideas for one. It felt unproductive, but I had to start somewhere, and that was whittling down the ideas I had come up with during the lecture. We were given a few chances to discuss our initial ideas and concepts with the people around us, based on what was feasible for creating within GDevelop (the engine used to make our prototypes for this unit).
Oftentimes I find conceptualising ideas to be the hardest part of game design; while I always feel like my head is brimming with ideas, writing them down is where I struggle. That process is never helped whenever there's a limit as to what we can create, which has happened in previous school assignments. Thankfully, this assignment has a lot more room for creativity as we aren't bounded by a specific prompt or concept, instead just making a prototype for a simple platformer game. Easy enough, right?
Conceptualising ideas:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Another key component to playcentric design is that ideas should be prototyped and playtested early. I encourage designers to construct a playable version of their idea immediately after brainstorming ideas. By this I mean a physical prototype of the core game mechanics" (Fullerton, 2018, p. 12).
Tracy Fullerton, the author of Game Design Workshop : A Playcentric Approach to Creating Innovative Games, Fourth Edition, often repeats the importance of iterative design, and conceptualising ideas to test out in a prototype, receive feedback and change as needed, which is especially important when starting out so you don’t end up polishing a feature that players receive with more negative feedback than positive.
Even something like talking with others about something as simple as a game concept gave me enough feedback to iterate these ideas, and I was able to choose one of them to move forward with.
I then moved on to character design, making sure it was something viable to create using pixel art - I had to consider outfit complexity and readability, and make sure my character looked good (and recognisable) in all animal forms. For now, I started with the character in her tiger form, which ended up being a half-tiger half-human monk.
Physical prototypes:
"A physical prototype of a first-person shooter can help you understand the larger tactical and strategic issues of weapon balance, territorial control, etc., but it won’t help you to understand the fluid process of running, aiming, and shooting in a 3D environment" (Fullerton, 2018, p. 209).
Fullerton also mentions using a physical prototype to playtest your game, however this technique was found to be more beneficial for board games. Games like platformers or FPS (First-Person Shooters) that require player movement would not be simulated nearly as well . I still attempted to draw a quick sketch of what a potential layout could look like, but also to consider UI especially that could incorporate all the planned features I had for the game.
Tumblr media
Refining initial idea:
After I had everything decided, I spent a bit longer on trying to refine that initial idea I came up with to figure out what my plan was for prototyping. I got a few notes down for player movement and how the shapeshifting mechanic would work.
Creatures are loosely based on the Chinese zodiac animals (sea snake instead of snake in order to have a swimming ability)
White tiger instead of orange?
Snake is a banded sea krait
Player can only transform into one of these at a time
Slight cooldown on ability change, or maybe animation delay so it’s not instant
Condition for the latter: player will need to be still for the change to occur (just so they don’t fall mid-air while gliding etc)
Remove dragon, snake and rat if time doesn’t allow
Tumblr media
With all this planned out, I was ready to move on to developing the prototype.
Next development post ►

With the U.S. government shutdown on the horizons, the crypto market faces growing uncertainty amid key economic events, challenging traditional investment norms. Following the FOMC meeting on Sep.19, Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies face upcoming macroeconomic events this week, with Thursday spotlighting the Q2 U.S. GDP data, predicted at 2.1%. Concurrently, a key highlight will be Fed Chair Powell’s speech, shedding light on the Fed’s economic perceptions and possible policy shifts. Key Events This Week:1. Consumer Confidence data – Tuesday2. Building Permits/New Home Sales data – Tuesday3. Q2 GDP Data – Thursday4. Pending Home Sales data – Thursday5. Fed Chair Powell Speaks – Thursday6. August PCE Inflation data- Friday7. Total of 6 Fed…— The Kobeissi Letter (@KobeissiLetter) September 24, 2023 The week rounds off with the U.S. Core PCE Price Index, a consistent inflation indicator that’s been oscillating around 4.0% this year. The US Fed on Inflation Since 2021:1. May 2021: Inflation is "transitory"2. Dec. 2021: Inflation may not be transitory3. Jan. 2022: Inflation should fall to 2.5% in December 20224. May 2022: Inflation should fall to 4.3% in December 20225. Jan. 2023: Inflation will hit…— Whale (@WhaleChart) September 22, 2023 The federal government shutdown, potentially commencing on October 1, adds complexity, affecting economic data timing. Such a shutdown is triggered when Congress and the president can’t agree on a funding bill. While lawmakers often resort to a continuing resolution (CR) as a stop-gap funding measure, its failure would lead to a cessation of all but the most critical federal operations. In such a scenario, furloughed federal staff responsible for economic data could disrupt data releases. Markets rely on this data for economic trends, and its unavailability can bring unexpected volatility, affecting crypto markets. According to Goldman Sachs, for every week the shutdown endures, there could be a contraction of 0.2% in economic growth. This overarching economic impact might dent investor morale and their propensity to take risks, with assets like Bitcoin, often viewed as “safe havens”, standing in the limelight. Crypto’s resilience amid economic shifts As 2023 approaches its conclusion, a noticeable change in market sentiment, particularly in the crypto sphere, has become evident. While cryptocurrencies have historically been sensitive to external influences, a newfound resilience is emerging. This stability could be attributed to the broader acceptance of digital assets, their seamless integration into traditional finance, or the perception of them as a safeguard against traditional market fluctuations. Encouragingly, the crypto sector has mirrored the positive performance of dominant benchmarks like the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite throughout 2023. However, the looming possibility of a recession casts a shadow. While some proponents argue that cryptocurrencies are recession-resistant, the forthcoming period will serve as a litmus test for these claims. What to expect next? Amid the global upheaval, the cryptocurrency market, often a barometer for larger macroeconomic shifts, could find itself at a pivotal moment.  Firstly, the U.S. economy’s growth forecast for Q2 was recently adjusted downwards, from 2.4% to 2.1%. In simpler terms, the economy isn’t growing as quickly as some’d hoped.  When Jerome Powell, the Federal Reserve Chair, speaks of economic challenges, it’s a clear sign that conventional financial thinking might be undergoing some changes. Now, let’s think about gold and crypto for a moment. In uncertain times, when economies slow down, investors have historically flocked to assets like gold and crypto as they’re seen as “safe havens.” Enter the possibility of a federal shutdown. Beyond politics, this could mean a delay in getting key economic data. Imagine planning a trip but not knowing the weather forecast. It’s a bit like that for investors.  Without this data, there’s a lot more uncertainty in decision-making.
If traditional economic indicators are on pause, investors might look more favorably at alternative assets like cryptocurrencies.  There is no second best. Bitcoin was the greatest inflation hedge we have ever seen appreciating 1000% from the March 2020 Fed QE. You want to hold inflation hedges before the inflation event, just as you want health insurance before you have a car crash.Got insurance? pic.twitter.com/HN0qmbIE32— Charles Edwards (@caprioleio) September 25, 2023 Furthermore, the recent ADP report underscores potential vulnerabilities in the employment sector, another key component influencing market sentiment.  In this setting, where the traditional economic landscape might be shifting, and growth isn’t as robust as one would hope, there’s an opportunity. Investors might start seeing the value in diversifying their investments, considering both the traditional and the new – like cryptocurrencies. BITCOIN PRICE REPORT🚨I Analyzed Bitcoin's On-chain Activity and Sat through the Fed's meeting. Here is my Takeaway.Bitcoin under Whale Accumulation as FED gives moved signals.1. Rates? Unchanged. Predictable. 2. They're optimistic on growth, predict lower unemployment, but… pic.twitter.com/IxjDmYXIj3— Emperor👑 (@EmperorBTC) September 21, 2023 In essence, as the boundaries between traditional financial indicators, government decisions, and the world of crypto become more fluid, it’s essential for investors to stay informed and be ready to navigate these evolving waters.
