Some custom adopted designs for both the Cubone is a charmander and Cubone is a baby Kangaskan theories out there
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I made the masks match up with the respective adult species rather than canon cubone just for fun, I imagine the baby kangaskan get more tan and browner the longer they're out the pouch exposed to the sun, charmander giving big premie energy little guy who probably could be a charmandertwo variant? Died later than the rest but still too early to survive body abandoned at a Charizard graveyard, it's possible a living Charizard tried to ignite their tail (like in the charmander cubone theory) hence the burnt tail tip and possibly due to mewtwo connection their brain reactivated reviving them but now probably a ghost type gaining ground due to the bones and such and as they don't have a fire in/on them. Of course it's entirely up to the person who now has these designs but just my little lore thinkies to share

Fan theory time! Know that this is a theory and therefore is not outright canon, even if it sounds plausible!!
Cubone was originally supposed to be the the child of Kangaskhan.
The evidence is that the skull of Cubone looks like the head of a Kangaskhan.
Cubone's signature move is called "bonemerang", a mix between bone and boomerang. Boomerangs are a stereotypical Australian thing, and Khangaskans could be based on kangaroos, stereotypical Australian animals.
The final piece of evidence is that there is a glitched pokemon in red and blue (kind of like missingno), if you manage to level this pokemon up there's a chance it can evolve into a Kangaskhan. This could imply that Kangaskhan was supposed to have a pre-evolution

procrastinating on an assignment rn so i remade a test team for my headcanon of leaf. my idea is that she started her journey before red and blue but mysteriously disappeared and everyone except for red and blue forgot she ever existed. what actually happened is that she got involved in the early stages of the mewtwo project by accident and basically lost contact with the world and became trapped in a pocket dimension with mew.

you know when i got the ground typing for kangaskhan i had to do it. I just had to. The cubone/kangasskhan theory is almost as old as the games themselves and with the more recent beta sprite leaks, it’s basically canon.
My take on it is if a cubone is orphaned and lives alone it turns into a marrowak. However, if the cubone gets adopted by another kangaskan it evolves into my “kangaskhan”. The difference being that a marrowak is just a malnourished (therefor smaller) kangaskhan. My “kangaskhan” is stronger than a regular kangaskhan (stat wise) to better reflect it’s struggle and success to survive. They are extremely protective of the herd that adopted them as well as compassionate and empathetic.

Mimikyu Headcanon #2
Mimikyu & Eggs (Also known as 'The Cubone Problem')
[Ok, so I am back with my little headcanons. I am going to preface this by saying I tend to agree with the fan theory that Pokedex enties are not 100% fact. More that they are there to encourage the target audience (Young Trainers) into being cautious around certain pokemon. Your Flareon is not going to actually hit 1000 degrees, a Shedinja will not absorb your soul and Cubone is not nessassarly wearing its mothers dead skull.]
With that done, back to the cutest 'Mon around (Bias). Mimikyu is one of those Pokemon that brings up questions when it comes to hatching one from an egg. Why does it already have a disguise? Where did that come from? Why always Pikachu?
The truth is that Mimikyu are not always born with a Pikachu disguise, but as the most common form (and some believe genetically encoded) it is what you will generally see. Mimikyu's born with different disguises tend to come from specifically setup enviroments. Both of the parents need to have the same disguise (already a feat, as no two Kyus create the same disguise) and have remainded in those disguises for very long periods of time. Given the aging process of Mimikyu and its' ghost nature we can't even determine how long that would be.
As for the disguise itself, any good mimikyu owner will tell you that the first thing a newborn needs is a hidden location and raw materials. The actual disguise seen in the first few days of birth is not real cloth, but a shedding developed while in the egg. It is often sticky and damp to the touch, which inexperienced folk attribute to having been in the egg to begin with. But that is in fact a covering to allow it to last a bit longer. A Mimikyu can survive with this for a few days before it dries out and becomes brittle. If the egg is kept with the parents, they will often deal with the details to ensure the young Kyu gets what they need. If that is not possible a trainer is best given them any material and time to themselves. The time alone is often enough, as even young Kyu's are resourceful, but the gift also helps raise your trust with them.
Fun fact: There is an old wives tale about someone going mad having seen a mimikyu newly born and without a disguise. The story goes that they stared at the egg unblinking for days so they would not miss it. This was one of those tales that was to warn against seeing a Mimikyu with no disguise. Most folk agree however that what probably happen is that staring at a single object for days without eating, drinking or blinking was the real cause of the idiots problem.

Do you have any idea where Cubone's helmet and club came from? I hatched mine, his parents are still very thoroughly alive, and like two days after he was hatched, he was already holding on to them.
yo wait i actually know this one! by that i mean i looked it up after Riot hatched lmao
so like the story that cubone always wear the skull of their mother is like only half true. that USED to be the case. the theory goes that way fucken long ago, the ancestors of cubone and marowak had a shit ton of natural predators and so babies usually ended up orphaned, blah blah blah, we all know the story. but over time, the bones began to fuse with the ‘mons and became part of their anatomy
SO modern day cubone aint actually wearin their parent’s skull, its actually part of ‘em! the “skull” is actually calcium deposits that develop and harden either in the egg or shortly after hatching!
as for the club, they usually scavenge something for that, so uh. maybe check your yard or somethin to see where it found that

Last night I improvised a PMD story for friends. It was a hurt/comfort fic about a PMD world where mystery dungeons contained mana pools that allowed Poke'mon to draw on them so they could use moves. Magic Academies existed to foster teams of exploers that could seek out and document these pools and their effect.
It followed a Cubone named Laura who had no natural talent for using moves but knows she has great potential. She's not allowed in the Academy because she can't pasd the entrance exam since it's only rich kids who can be taught how to use mana beforehand. So she's stuck as an assistant at the item check, watching academy teams pass her by, living out her dream with no way for herself to live them.
One student at the academy, a hoothoot named Tessi, is a studuous and talented bookworm who is unfortunately great at theory but completely inept and cowardly when it comes to practice. She's bullied and isolated and thus can't form a team with anyone.
Laura, one day, was working item check when she spotted this weird hoothoot checking out a bunch of items...by herself. The hoothoot assured that her team was 'totally waiting for her down the road'. Laura thought nothing of it and gave the items but it wasn't until that evening when the hoothoot came back, both wet AND burnt and sobbing with nothing in her item bag but a clump of grimey food that Laura learned that Tessi tried to do a dungeon by herself.
So Laura volunteers to come with Tessi on a second trip...which they have a hard time with. Laura can't use moves and Tessi locks up every time there's an enemy. But with tutoring from Tessi and encouragement from Laura, they reach the mana pool and become a team together ♡♡♡
It was super cute. Might be fun to turn into a story!
If i just point for point described abother pmd fic i swear it's coincidence lmfao

Just curiousity if sdra2 is in Pokémon au what Pokémon the sdra2 cast have and their role is? Man i can already imagine syobai and sora be catching legendary Pokémon lmao.
OH I've been waiting for an ask like this for a while so grab a seat!
Note I couldn't think of any for Yoruko, Setsuka, or Syobai sorry--
...
Shinji
Definitely has a Blastoise who can Mega Evolve. Ever since he was a kid and it was a Squirtle, they dreamed of being firefighters.
He'd also have a strong fighting type like Machamp that could help lift debris from ruined buildings and a ground type like Rhyhorn that can pull heavy equipment.
He wouldn't really battle much, instead using his Pokémon for search and rescue operations.
Yuri
He'd have psychic types with space themes (Solrock, Lunatone, Cosmog, Elygem, etc.), and maybe a steel type like Klinklang since he's an inventor.
One of his lifelong dreams is to witness a Deoxys in the wild, which is the main reason why he does space training.
Would always be chivalrous to the Pokecenter nurses and never pass up a battle with a lady if she wishes to have one (even if he loses, he'll praise them).
Yuki
I think it's confirmed that he'd have a Charmander as a starter and evolve an Eevee into Flareon, so definitely lots of fire-types.
He's kinda average at battling, knowing general type strengths and weaknesses.
But he couldn't tell you what's super effective against poison even if his life depended on it.
Oh, and he's not great at setting up Pokémon stats, either. Every time he does, his team gets knocked out anyways.
Shinji keeps encouraging him to get a fighting-type and train with it.
Teruya
His father owned a shiny Klefki who kept the keys to his home, office, and the Otori Mart secured.
Since his passing, Teruya has kept Klefki under his care, having it safeguard security keys for the Kisaragi Foundation.
Had a Meowth and Cubone who helped him with the business, but after DRA's events the latter has evolved into Marowak (due to sympathizing with him over the traumatic losses he experienced and inspiring him to keep going).
Meowth stays the same but is very smart and helps him with financial department stuff.
Hibiki & Kanade
They'd have Pokémon that share themes of duality (ie Doduo and Scovillain) and music-themed ones like the Toxtricity variants or Loudred.
They're best known for hosting concerts where their Pokémon are band members, providing extra music or background vocals that get the audience pumped.
Funny enough, their individual Pokémon teams have natures that match their owners (ie Hibiki's being feisty).
Hibiki's dream is to catch a Meloetta but is forever jealous that Kanade claimed to have seen a shiny one in the wild but failed to catch it.
Hajime
A native to Alola who has a Machoke and Incineroar that both use Fightnium Z crystals in-battle.
As a Machop and Litten, they came to the hospital where he was sick and formed a close bond with him right away when everybody else abandoned him.
After being healed by Divine Luck, Hajime has trained with the duo ever since, winning lots of matches and making a name for himself across many regions.
He dreams of opening his own fighting-type gym.
Emma
Probably owns "cute" Pokémon that pack a punch, like Sylveon, Primarina, and Galarian Rapidash.
Also has a Ditto who helps her in the movie biz by transforming into a stunt double or an extra character if needed. It actually loves being a star alongside her.
Has definitely gone to Hoenn to participate in beauty contests.
Not crazy about battles but if you cross her, her team can and will destroy you.
Nikei
Would most likely be a Pokémon researcher, writing articles on mythical/legendary sightings and theories.
Wants to catch one himself but he feels ill-prepared for the journey.
I can see him owning some Fossil Pokémon (pre-gen 8), and normal types like Furret, Linoone, and Eevee.
If he had to choose a legendary to catch, he'd probably pick Wo-Chein since he learned it has the tablets of ruin, wondering how much history is recorded on it.
Hates Mikado for somehow getting an Ultra Beast and refusing to let him study it.
Iroha
She'd have a Smeargle 100%.
They've been childhood friends and the only Pokémon companion she's ever had, making art together and inspiring each other with their works.
She took a trip to Paldea in the summer, wanting to expand her team to prove she's not a weak trainer.
There, she caught a Tinkatuff and a Shroodle that became a sassy Grafaiai who likes to mess with Smeargle's artwork.
She doesn't have the heart to force them into any battles.
Mikado
Definitely has Meowscarada. It just makes sense.
I can also see him owning a Blacephalon, Murkrow, Delphox, and Alakazam to help him with crime performances.
He just taught all his Pokémon how to be petty thieves, stealing things from the audience when they least expect it.
Is still on the run from the Foundation, but his Pokémon are good at making getaways.
You would think he's a champion, but he doesn't really care to become one.
Kokoro
Owns psychic types who are in tune to people's natures/personalities and can make predictions, such as Indeedee, Espeon, Gardevoir, Xatu, Abra , and/or Hatenna.
Similar to Nikei, she's just a researcher. But she prefers studying the interactions between humans and Pokémon.
Is willing to battle, but only just to observe the kind of bond her opponent shares with their team.
Winning or losing is of no concern to her.
Sora
Owns a single Shiny Eevee who for some reason cannot evolve no matter the time of day, friendship level, or evolution stone given.
She believes that, like herself, it's just struggling to find its identity and purpose.
So the two just go on adventures together, seeking out legendary/mythical Pokémon.
Would probably have a Cinccino on her team as a friend for Eevee.
BONUS:
Utsuro
Would have a team of Pokémon deemed difficult to capture and ones that only evolve with high friendship, succeeding at both thanks to his luck.
Not only that, but his 'mons would have the perfect nature, stats, and IVs.
I can see him owning a Mewtwo, Lucario, Jirachi, Silvally, Clefable (who only knows Metronome, yet always gets the exact moves she needs to win the battle), and an Absol with the ability Super Luck.
He'd rise to the champion ranks really quick, but get bored of it just as fast and pawn it off to someone else.
Even shiny hunting becomes ridiculously easy for him, as he'd trade them away to people just because he can.

NamelessShipping for the meme (If they have a kid meme)
Sorry, this was sitting in my inbox. I was gonna answer it and then fell to sleep. I work in education so the past week I've just been working hard as kids come back. Anyway childhood OTP let's goooo!!!
Name: Noel
Gender: Male
General Appearance: Black hair (I miss OG Red's black hair in the games T-T), His eyes are a a goldish brown color like Blue's. He also has spikey hair that swoops more to the side instead of going up like Blue's or down like Red's (with the hat)
Personality: This kid has bad wanderlust. At least he remebers to contact his loved ones before disappearing on a MOUNTAIN- Noel studies Pokemon Myths.
Special Talents: He like's to doodle things he sees. He has a pretty good memory because
Who they like better: Red. Noel can go on and on about what he's seen and learned and quiet dad Red is a good listener. Of course, Red DOES talk to Noel but Noel feels comforted by that strong silence.
Who they take after more: Probably Blue. Can be a bit arrogant without realizing it, but other than that he is pretty chill.
Personal Headcanon: Not a headcanon per-say...but I just want you to know his whole team is built around internet legends surrounding Pokemon.
Face Claim:
Tumblr media
Inspo's for each of his pokemon under the cut:
Dratini: Reference to that one issue of Nintendo Power that claimed you could evolve the Dragonite line into Yoshi. I chose Dratini specifically because it was featured in the article picture.
Marill: Remeber when bitches thought this guy was gonna be named "Pikablu"? I have the anime card where they call Marril "Pikablu"
Porygon-Z: Choosing this specific evolution is a nod to Porygon being banned in the anime (RIP) and Missino the popular glitch pokemon!
Barbaracle: Does anyone else remember the Albino Pokemon glitch from XY? I remember when I saw someone posted an all-white Barbaracle it made me think of the white hand in generation one which also kind of became it's own creepypasta. That's fun.
Marowak: Is my representative for not just Lavander Town and it's rumors but also for fan theories that connect pokemon together like Kangaskhan and Cubone.
Ravavroom: This pokemon can become a truck and the ultimate pokemon urban legend is catching Mew under the truck!

Kangaskhan should really have a baby evolution, right?
Ah, Kangaskhan, the pokémon that seeks to answer the age old question, "what if a kangaroo was also a dinosaur?"
And to be fair it does answer that question quite well. This is definitely a kangaroo which is also a dinosaur, and a pretty cool looking one all things considered.
On the downside it has the *exact* same basic body plan as Nidoking, Nidoqueen and Rhydon, like down to the three claws on each foot and relative proportions of the head, body, limbs and tail, which... y'know you can be a little more creative with your monsters there Gamefreak, but that's not really Kangaskhan's fault.
There's some fun fan theories about how Cubones are Kangaskhan cubs that lose their mothers, which I don't quite believe, but it is a little weird that Kangaskhan of all Pokémon never got a baby evolution, right? I mean, it's literally right there in the pouch.
Speaking of which, cool thing about Kangaskhan, it has a mega evolution that changes literally nothing about it, but which causes its cub to rapidly grow up and jump out of the pouch to help, which is both extremely fun and extremely cute, and I love it.

I accept your offer, it’s great fanart lol. Given how popular the twins are, especially in Japan, the twitters for Bulbapedia and Pokémon like memeing what happened to Ingo every few months. So I guess I serve as a reminder. I myself have my own sad headcanons and due to multiverse being canon, technically any idea we have is canon in one of the worlds(like diner Ingo).
My first sad headcanon was Chandelure pulling a Hachiko, the loyal Japanese Akita who waited around 9 years at the train station his owner would come back from work on after his owner passed away. Just Chandelure staying by the Singles Line even though she knows Ingo isn’t emerging. Another was my thought that they wouldn’t have a perfect happy reunion ending but Emmet would get closure. Like Ingo’s ghost appearing at either Celestial Tower or Gear Station, most likely still having choppy memories but being pulled here because of that feeling. He could be a side quest ghost like the trainer school girl or vessa, a plot twist where at first it looked like he made it home but hen it’s revealed he’s a ghost, or even a Pokémon fight like Marowak(be it fighting him, Emmet, or even Ingo fighting alongside Emmet a final time) but any form ending with him being put to rest(unless you are that one dream I had where he stayed as a worker but his model was growing purple still) while Emmet gets closure, finally knowing what happened to Ingo while being comforted by him being at peace so he move forward himself.
Then there’s the fan favorite Yamask theory. Yamask’s dex entries go on about how it “game from a bygone age,” how it “is searching for someone who recognizes its face.” There’s also the mask having the constant frown, debuting in Unova, and little things like this line from Ingo: “it must be difficult being a Pokémon, don’t you think? Especially one as irritable as Electrode.” Or his ace being a ghost type(their aces types are supposed to represent the dragons. Ingo has fire for Reshiram since it’s the older brother who had truth, and Emmet has electric for Zekrom. Why they have opposite colors is because they are the circles inside yin and Yang, but because of it people tend to put Ingo with Zekrom and Emmet with Reshiram. But now that Ingo is centuries in the past, that ghost type is making sense now lol) or how Gamefreak likes showing some on the dex entries in the story like Cubone, Hypno, or Guzzlord. So the theory states that Ingo dies in the past and comes back as a Yamask, possibly appearing as one in the remakes(Cofagrigus is confirmed to forget its former life completely upon evolution, so everstone him) and having a lot of fanart on tumble and Twitter. What can I say, Gamefreak opened itself up to angst
Ah. I must admit I have seen the Yamask thing going around before, but I think that more than a theory it was just someone's AU that got a lot of traction bc, well. Angst. The submas fandom so loves its angst. Besides, you said it yourself. The Cofagrigus forgets all about its human life, so...
Altho, wasn't the Celestial tower's bell meant to let the spirits rest? Just, picture Emmet after they finally confirm Ingo as dead and he goes there to ring the bell, symbolizing the end of his grief (kinda), his determination to keep going even now when Ingo's not around, and Ingo's spirit/ghost being able to finally move on because it was due to Emmet that he was still lingering around.
Ah, so bittersweet, so sad. Darn.

Pokemon Card of the Day #2788: Alolan Marowak (Forbidden Light)
Tumblr media
Alolan Marowak was a surprisingly interesting card. It could accelerate Energy and even hit pretty hard for not much of a cost. There were some hoops to jump through, as acceleration from a Stage 1 could be really awkward and said attack required specific Pokemon when something else was available that wasn’t so restricted. The competition gave up 2 Prizes and Alolan Marowak gave up 1, though, so it was still possible to find a spot in theory.
Alolan Marowak did have 120 HP, which was at that spot where Zoroark-GX could get a KO. This made it pretty vulnerable to a lot of decks that could set up, as 120 and higher was quite common. The Water Weakness mattered against Greninja in the BKT-On format and Keldeo-GX later on, though both were mid-tier options. The Retreat Cost here was 2, though to be fair it was unlikely that you’d ever retreat this instead of attacking in some way so it wasn’t a big problem.
Limbo Limbo needed no Energy at all. It let you search your deck for up to 2 basic Energy cards and attach them to your Pokemon however you wanted. The one thing holding it back was that using a Stage 1 for this meant a slower set-up than ideal if going second, though getting some Energy for something like an Alolan Ninetales-GX was potentially still worth it sometimes.
Alolan Club was actually quite good if you get it all set up. 2 Colorless Energy got you 20 damage for each of your Pokemon in play with Alolan in its name. This was basically a far more restricted Zoroark-GX that didn’t have draw power but only gave up 1 Prize. Alolan Ninetales/Alolan Ninetales-GX was the most likely one to go for as a main partner, as there were good cards in there and they used Alolan Vulpix as a Basic, making it easier to get a bunch of Pokemon in play. 120 for 2 Colorless Energy was always going to be good when you got it to work, with the caution being that you’d be likely to end up just doing 80-100 because you had a Cubone on the Bench a lot of the time.
Alolan Marowak was a good concept, getting a cheap, reasonably strong attack if you got a Bench full of other Alolan Pokemon. The big thing holding it back, other than the tendency to not quite get to the 120 you often wanted and that you could just use Zoroark-GX and almost always get better results. With Zoroark being one of the best choices to play, Alolan Marowak was simply a fun deck option to use when there wasn’t anything on the line.

Convergent Fakemon: Cushell and Yolkwak
The latest Pokémon has a few new species that play with the idea of convergent evolution so I thought about drawing a few. These are a reference to the theory that Cubone is the result of a baby Kangaskhan whose mother died. They also reference this other fakemon I made called Pengusquen.
Cushell (Ice): Superficially resembling Cubone, Cushell is a penguin Pokémon that was born alone from an egg abandoned in the cold. They still retain an attachment to their eggs which they now wear like helmets. They wield a crude weapon made from the frozen leftover yolk from their eggs. They are known to be delinquents due to their lack of parental care but long for companionship.
Yolkwak (Ice): Superficially resembling Marowak, Yolkwak has made peace with their lot in life and has become an accomplished hunter. They have refined their crude ice shard blade into a great throwing spear. However, they still have not quite given up on their childhood attachments and continue to wear their eggshell helmets like a security blanket.

Apologies if this has already been answered but does Bertie ever grow up? Always wondered that about Kangaskan.
Short answer - I’ll be honest no idea and I don’t think science does either
There’s some theories?
TW for discussions off death
Long answer - So when male kangaskan kids, like burtie, loose their parents, they turn into Cubone. Female Kangaskan kids grow up and have babies much like Gurtie.
My personal theory is Burtie will probably be a Cubone after Gurtie has passed on. So when Burtie is fully grown he’ll probably be a marrowack?
But generally this isn’t observed in the wild I think?? Hence why I have no idea.
But I love my babies all the same and I will look after Burtie when Gurtie isn’t about for as long as he needs me too, and when he’s ready to be whatever he wants he will have my full support. <3
If any Pokémon proffessors have an answer they can weigh in their welcome too.
