god i will never stop fawning over how absolutely SPECTACULAR afo vs bakugou was. genuinely one of the best fights in the entire manga in terms of art, the themes, the pararells, the gayness, the fight itself, and just. everything about it makes me wanna scream into my pillow and chew on it

To the new players on Splatoon 3!

For any battle type:

Always remember to booyah back! this means at the start of the round when a player on your team presses booyah, say booyah too! it lets old players know youre communicative and pay attention to your teammates. Its friendly. Its polite. Its honestly gonna make the whole game more enjoyable if you can use the little bit of communication there is.

theres no in game chat function so booyah and this way are the best way to let your team know what's up! booyah when your teammate did something cool! its a morale booster

plan your specials around your teammates. is your special better for support or slaying? check to see if there is already a cooler up if u have it, cus the effects do not stack. and in salmon run specials can be what saves the whole team!!

check your map! not only does it show the current ink coverage, it also shows enemy players if they have taken damage even without being marked. you can jump back to spawn if things seem dangerous and you can jump to teammates. keep in mind that teammates might not be in a safe position for you to land in. anyone can see where you will land and can try to jump kill you. knowing the map itself for good jump points and seeing if the teammate is in a well inked area helps.

Ink spawn. Always. Dont think it applies to X mode? It does. Even in anarchy battles (which splat 2 players might still call ranked out of habit) you should ink spawn. Why? multiple reasons! It keeps your base safer than not. helps maneuverability in getting back in. It helps build your special, which can be incredibly useful for a push. generally speaking, an inked base is a happy base. EDIT: I dont mean ink spawn immediately for anarchy battle, the first push is critical! Use the spawn for free specials to push when you're behind! And dont be thorough in anarchy battle either, prioritize the objective over turf inked unless you have a very good reason otherwise. the movement is also more for a path back to spawn than anything. having escape routes is important.

For turf war:

Inking ground takes priority over killing. Yes if they are dead they cant ink but the respawn time is pretty fast, about 5 to 7 seconds. Also, inking builds special. it is the only way you build special. kills do not build your special. Inked ground both gives a tiny amount of damage to the enemy when they step on it, AND gives you more coverage, AND gives you quicker escape options, AND is the deciding factor of winning the game.

Walls do not count towards points. Only ground. Inking walls isnt useless though, but don't think that inking them all will help you win, its more for maneuverability.

Last second bombs can decide a match. If you have a sub to throw and there is roughly one or two seconds left on the clock, throw it no hesitation. after the match time is over, it will still pause for a second to allow all subs and specials that were out at the last second to explode.

Hide in ink. This should be self explanatory. You aren't as visible if you are submerged in ink and you are faster in ink than walking. if you hide while an enemy player is nearby, and they dont think to check whatever puddle youre in, you could get a sneak attack. another point to focus on inking!

For salmon run:

Learn to squid party! its just jumping and changing in and out of squid to inkling (or octopus to octoling) form very fast so u kinda look like a blob. it might be frowned upon to squid party in other modes but this is totally fine and encouraged!

Pay attention to your teammates positions. Dead teammates cannot help more than sit there and hold a single egg. throw a bomb or shoot at them to revive them. they take priority over eggs in most cases.

Use this way liberally. This way points towards where youre looking. Use it to say hey theres a boss here.

LISTEN TO TEAMMATES. if someone says help or this way go to them. its worth it. they know what theyre doing. usually.

Losing on wave 3 doesnt lower pay grade. It sucks to lose but wave 3 sucks slightly less to lose on.

Same anon with that whole "bit" thing. As a fellow Solar simp, your feelings are totally valid. Solar even had to repeatedly say "He was literally going to kill me" regarding the Monty from his dimension. Honestly, the only lighthearted question in that entire podcast was "how do you feel about coffee?" And probably the whole bald thing.

But can I just say that when I heard Solar say that he learned the toxic masculinity from the Barbie movie, I am 100% sure that Earth got him to watch with her because I don't think he would watch it otherwise on his own. And it made me think of how underappreciated the fact that Earth has a really good influence on Sun, Moon, Lunar, and Solar with regards to, you know, the experiences of women, patriarchy, and such. I might sound stupid right now and I know there are people who will eye-roll this but I believe Earth being unapologetically feminine in a "household" full of men is a great thing.

The other lighthearted question was about anime, but that was fairly ruined.

Puppet could have had an anime buddy and blew it cus of Monty.

(and my 15 year old self is just crying cus Solar doesn't like naruto. ;w; But also as a naruto fan... Like... I GET IT.. I totally get it)

But yeah. Solar's whole podcast felt like an interrogation, at least compared to the others. So I wouldn't be too shocked if Monty just hates Solar's guts off the grounds that he's an Eclipse.

And yeah, he mostly watched the Barbie Movie with Earth. Like Earth has literally made everyone watch the Barbie movies with her. (long term hyperfixations for the win)

And yes, I like that Earth is unapologetically feminine. It's one of her best features! I honestly think that by Solar's definition, that would define Old Moon as Toxically Masculine as well in a way. Since he insisted on doing things on his own and he had to be the one to "save" his brother. Moon had to be the strong and smart one, Sun had to be the dumb and happy one to keep him happy.

And Old Moon I don't think did that maliciously. (maybe sometimes) but I do think he genuinely loved Sun.

Earth has really been a positive influence on Sun when he was greiving, Moon, as he was just coming into himself as a new person, and Lunar who revived from the dead. Earth was also very helpful in making Solar feel welcomed in this dimension. (so fuck off Monty really. Your GF likes Solar here.)

Sun and Moon properly communicating with eachother, and Sun actually having a lot better coping mechanisms are a direct result of Earth's influence.

Sun is even healthy to the point out in Castor faults in himself and then direct those coping techniques he learned outwards to help other people.

And that is 100% due to Earth's influence, empathy and femineity.

Earth is great honestly.

A lot of things decided to happen at camp before beating Cazador on my durge run last night. I get extremely fired up and tunnel vision for that fight and, in that moment, one of the things that came at me out of nowhere was Halsin confessing to me.

Now, Halsin is great, but he’s not for me. Not at all, fsr. But in that moment, pumped up on adrenaline, I instinctively went “FUCK IT, LET’S DO IT!!!”, but decided the talk with Astarion should wait until AFTER the fight. He had enough on his plate, after all.

Did my long rest for the fight, turned out Mizora wanted her own piece too the next morning, my impulses got the better of me and I took a partial rest to do that whole thing too.

…the option to talk to Astarion about Halsin had disappeared the next morning. I freaked out and went back on my saves, intending to do that whole thing before Mizora’s stuff instead.

But as the game took it’s time to load the file, I had time to process what was happening, what I was setting up for, and realized it would MAJORLY mess with my head to have Halsin along with us like that.

Upon load, I went to Astarion, hoping to show my strong hesitation for starting that sorta thing with Halsin, hoping he’d see it and give me an option to be like “actually, I don’t think I want to anymore…” but instead he just shrugged it off as a lust thing, encouraged me EXTENSIVELY, and sent me on my way.

Nervously going over to Halsin, telling him I talked to astarion, and the only option I truly had was to say that Astarion is okay with the whole thing, with Halsin promptly inviting me to bed that night.

I freaked out and started crying, a pit of both terror and guilt in my stomach as I, before he even finished talking, immediately loaded the save files as to just decline Halsin to begin with and move on like it never happened.

I suppose at least that also stopped me from indulging in Mizora, cus I was NOT gonna do that whole thing with her again after that big emotional mess, and I wanted the graveyard scene with Astarion that next night, so I just skipped her and her exclamation point disappeared the next morning 🤷

Anyways I feel a lot better today, glad I didn’t let myself go through with either, even if part of me longs to hurt from indulging. I was rewarded with a couple new dialogue options with Astarion that I didn’t have last time and they cheered me up a bit extra. Small wins should be counted, I suppose?

We say it a lot but i get that Katsuki being grabbed, pushed or jumped on isn't new, cus we've seen it happen before, with a bunch of different characters, but the fact that it's Izuku doing it.... It is kinda of a big deal.

Not in the sense that it's going to impact the story or something or that tiny things like that are a big deal in of itself, but that their history has been changing and getting to a point where Izuku can just do these things to Katsuki without much thought or fear, and that other people recognize them as a proper duo. Y'know?

Yuppp and I'll never get over how happy it makes him that he can finally get to be close to his Kacchan T-T spacing out and talking to himself out loud about it, he is in so deep. And a really satisfying aspect of their development is that although it wasn't acknowledged by either of them, their duo-ism has always been there

Which makes All Might's encouragement for them to learn from each other and their acceptance of save to win, win to save that much more moving. Yesss two sides of a whole pushing each other to get better and finally coming together to strive towards the same goal <3333

based on my last post!

the character that made me think of that is rei from im in love with the villainess and while i dont think im caught up with the comic anymore i read a lot of it and even parts of the novel when i first got into it. for those who dont know this girl gets isekaied into a video game she loved where her fav character was the villainess and she now tries to woo her. when you start the series, you think of her as just a silly and outgoing character but the thing is, its all an act. thats what gets me. like yes she really goes love claire but shes a lesbian and the character she knew in the game had one crush on a guy- she knows she had no chance. and so shes obnoxious about her advances. she makes herself into a joke because she believes then itll hurt less when shes inevitably rejected and pushed away and when people once again find her to be gross and weird. but! she still has a friend who enjoys her company and while claire is thrown off by rei (understandably) she also doesnt actually hate her or genuinely tell her that shes gross. and so when someone else comes to steal claire and rei gets jealous, the other person confronts her about this. that shes not genuinely trying to win over claire. so yeah idk that just gets me, plus the way they talk about and handle queer themes is really good (though warning in the manga there is a part with incest from what i remember. its nothingg big but i wanna say in case someone needs to avoid that.)

and now. the character i mass rbed last night, my beloved Sasha Tartt from the antagonist's pet. she was also isekaied into one of these romantic fantasy stories but shes not one of the main characters or anything, just some random nobody that barely had a line mentioning her. so she decides to avoid them and live peacefully. and she figures out that even tho no one cares abt her cus shes that much of a nobody, she can still get sweets and good stuff by sucking up to these nobles by, quite sincerely, acting like a pet. shes cute and people like to feed her treats and give her pets but they also dont view her as equal to them. shes just selling herself. and the worst part is that because nobles are taught to supress their feelings and always be poised and dignified, they can never show their emotions nor do they know how to deal with them. and so, she allows people to take it out on her. telling her about their problems, yelling, and attacking her. she says she doesnt mind this because she still gets pets and sweets. but shes not a person to these people, no matter how much she compliments them and helps them with their issues. and theres also all the people who talk bad about her for doing this and having no pride. whats even worse is that she has this habit of bitting her thumb til it bleeds when shes nervous or worried. shes keeps thinking about her past life too so she wants to take advantage of everything good here but it comes at the cost of herself.

oughh i wanna reread it now... also i very much recommend this one but tbh i dont like how it ends and i can do a whole lil rant abt that too but ill save it for another time. i doibt anyones even gonna read this one

ok.. Lame question... So.. we are supposed to feel sorry for Cook because He feels like he was extra , the team didn't make him a member, he wasn't sure Aisha liked him.. Yadda yadda yadda... Ahh.. So I did a re read of most of the comics (digital comics are a wonderful thing).. and from my understanding.. Our Boy Oliver was ALWAYS destined to be the white ranger... him being green was pure manipulation on the part of Rita. If she could make this kid meant to be the embodiment of good turn evil she'd win. Which leads me to believe that everyone who's a ranger was meant to be one. So where is this Flake getting the idea that he was "extra?" He IS a ranger.. So by the logic of the WHOEL rest of the series, clearly He's a ranger cus it was meant to be... Did rita rip his brain appart so hard that he ACTUALLY believes that? SHEESH... I'm starting to like Cook LESS and LESS as this goes along, And I didn't like him that much to begin with!

Yes, we are absolutely supposed to feel sorry for M/tt. It's practically being shoved in our faces every issue since #101 that he's just the most tragic sad boy ever and we need to cry over how tragic his circumstances are, and understand that all led to his fall. It's reflected by how the rangers are absolutely devastated by his kidnapping, and how this has been the main emotional arc for the books for a whole YEAR. They want us to be invested in him and his circumstances.

The problem with that is, besides it being so unbearably over the top at this point that it's hard to take seriously, these so-called tragic circumstances aren't true, and were never supported in the text. The team DOESN'T consider M/tt expendable; they always include him in their missions and love him to the point where they'll choose to save him over saving the Morphin Grid. Aisha DOES return M/tt's feelings and would have said yes if he had asked her out. Grace sees him as a valuable member of Promethea and apparently chose him for "his heart" (ignore that her first choice for Green was DRAKKON). The so-called turning point for M/tt succumbing to evil was Kim, Trini, and Zack leaving him to carry all of the snacks at the movies, which........is frankly pathetic lol. And then of course there's just the fact that his origins as a ranger were pretty much perfect - he's a public celebrity, he adapted to the ranger powers flawlessly, he beat Zedd in his first ever mission with no negative repercussions. There is literally nothing wrong with M/tt's life that he would realistically have angst over at this point; and therefore there's little to empathize with. But now suddenly he's just SOOOOOOOO sad and you should feel SOOOOOOO sorry for him - I don't even know if Grace is legit dead because I just have such a hard time believing they'd pin such a horrible deed on him, evil spell or not, because heaven forbid anything ACTUALLY goes wrong in his life that he's not immediately excused for.

(Also for what it's worth him being an "extra, expendable" ranger was his angst at the beginning of the arc. Now his angst is that he's a "replacement," which I would assume is what they intended this whole time as it's supposedly the reason he likes Aisha as he says they have that in common, but that isn't the same thing and isn't even true in his case. He didn't replace Tommy, Tommy replaced himself. Hell, Tommy was arguably M/TT'S replacement in the first place. But again, everyone else obviously doesn't consider him as anything but a valued member of the team, so it's moot anyway.)

It sucks! And it just cements him as Boom's pet character that does nothing but take up development and screentime from the characters we actually care about and have gotten nothing in comparison (ADAM!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Mirage had been acting strange lately. Or, Elliott rather. He’d insisted that that was what he wanted to be called outside of the ring, and away from the cameras.

Years later, they had trouble remembering he had made that request.

But that was not related to this. No he had been acting especially … kind lately. It was odd.

Normally, Mir-Elliott was simply too busy between his many endeavours to cross paths with Bloth more than once a day, and often not even that. But lately, for some reason, he seemed to be everywhere and more than willing to fill his time with idle requests for help or even just conversation. The fact that they weren’t much for conversation didn’t even seem to dissuade him.

To be honest, they were quite a fan of it though. Part of the reason Bloodhound felt so uncomfortable in conversation, honestly, was just a lack of practice with so many people. This usually wasn’t a problem, Bloth had much better things to be doing. A people to save, games to win, money to give to the people to save, all of that. Friendly conversation was certainly something that they never really gave the time of day and now they were feeling it effects.

M-Elliott never really seemed to let that stop him. Especially not in the past few weeks. It was … nice, the more and more used to it they had gotten. They had to stop and sit a few times, in quiet places, and think about it. Few people had seemed so determined to make extended conversation with them. Elliott had added himself to a list that contained little more than Fitzroy, Loba, Natalie and a few select others.

They … well, completely transparently, they liked it.

And it was very, very strange.

Bloodhound gathered their gear and sighed. They felt excitement, perhaps, at the idea that he may sit near them on the drop ship before the match today, to just chat. The first time he had done so was annoying, but eventually they both seemed to figure out how to converse with one another. And now they were looking forward to it. Wasn’t that so curious? They poked at one of the dangly decorations on their helm as they walked onto the dropship and sighed again. This was all incredibly silly. They really did have better things to be doing. Why were they not trying to find their teammates so they could strategize? Why was Bloodhound instead taking a seat near the door so that any person getting on the ship could see them? The pounding of Bloth’s heart told them exactly why. They put a hand to their chest and felt it’s rhythm. “Hey!” Elliott slid into the seat next to them. “Fancy seeing you here, huh?” Bloodhound looked up with a start. When the hell had he walked up? And he had actually sat where they had hoped? “H-hello.” “Lost in thought? Yeah, I get that.” He leaned back into his seat and chuckled. “Better to do it now instead of during the match. Don’t end up like me, ya know.” It was almost like he knew they sat here so he would join them. Maybe he did? Excluding the last few weeks of matches, it was out of character. It wouldn't even be that bad if he did know, Elliott's confidence in himself was one of the things Hound liked, and this would no doubt feed it. “It makes you an easy target,” they agreed after their pensive moment. Their cheeks were flushed under the many layers of their mask. “Mirage is quite visible when he has his head up in the clouds.”

"H-hey!" Elliott squawked. "My whole thing is trying to be visible! I'm soooo visible it makes everyone who shoots at my decoys look stupid."

"Is that how you intend for it to come across?" They felt their tone change, almost without their realizing it. The feeling of their hands growing warm inside their gloves, clutching at the air, cued them in. "Because I would have assumed it was for another reason entirely."

"To look incredibly cool and sick? Yeah, I know." He smiled, incredibly satisfied with himself apparently.

They had to admit, the confidence in himself was pretty 'cool and sick', to say the least. Bloodhound pushed their agreement aside in favour of continuing, trying to make themself warmer from the excitement and anticipation of what he would say next. "I would have thought you liked the attention."

Elliott laughed. There was a hint of colour across his cheek bones and it looked so enticing. They wanted to make him make look like that forever. And wasn't it so strange, in the end, that Hound was able to do that in the first place?

"Ha! Well that's easy. Of course I like the attention."

Of course he would, and of course he would be so up front as to say it. The attempt at teasing went over without acknowledgement. Bloodhound didn’t know what to say in response to keep it going. They needed more practice, obviously.

They sighed internally and tried to move past it to what they knew they should be thinking about instead. The next match was so close at hand. Despite many people on the drop ship still acting quite casual, everyone was mere minutes away from being in the ring. And yet it was so hard to drag their thoughts away from the man who willingly sat next to them, even when the conversation was like trying to mix oil and water.

Hound sighed again, not realizing that it slipped out into an audible vocalization.

Perhaps the strangeness that Hound had been experiencing wasn't just because of how Elliott had been acting. Perhaps it was instead because they had felt a moment of it, and had since been pursuing it. The strangeness was addicting. They really shouldn't have been wasting time on it, but they wanted to.

There was a shake of the main cabin and then Legends started standing and gathering at the jump points. Bloodhound looked around, flustered. Was it really that time already? They stood quickly and attempted to make out their teammates in the crowd.

Off, on the far side of the wide room, were the people Bloodhound was looking for. They rushed between other legends to take their expected place, directly between Seer and Ash. Back in the direction hey had come however, Hound could see Elliott… still Elliott, not Mirage yet, sitting in the seat, staring back at them. Maybe, if they were lucky, he would sit with them on the way back too.

Seer cleared his throat to get his teammates attention, and from then on they had to be focused. They did their best to remain focused. The cold of Talos was balanced by the blinding heat of the lava Hammond had accidentally dredged up. It drew them in, reminding them of their place, just like every time Seer cleared his throat or Ash scoffed.

The first kill their squad managed got them firmly back in their boots, back on the ground. By the time the rest of the enemy squad was taken out, they had a lazer focus.

And they continued to have the unfazed attitude and attention all the way up to a kill leader position. It was a lovely turn around from that turmoil right before dropping. Their steps on the sand of the Canyon were only unsteady because of the ground. Bloodhound knew exactly what they were doing.

And they kept doing it, all the way to the final battle. Seer, Ash, and Bloodhound versus Bangalore, Caustic, and Mirage. Bunker was the location of choice, and despite the fact Bloodhound’s team was coming from the least optimal angle for the squad they were up against, they thought they could handle it.

They knew they could handle it, personally, and hopefully impress one of the very legends they’d be sending down.

But… perhaps they had been a little too confident in themself. All it took was one exceptional kraber shot and Bloodhound was put severely off kilter before even making it inside. Bangalore’s use of her ultimate in conjunction with Caustic’s gas had them down within minutes of the skirmish starting and despite them putting in as much effort as they could, the gaping hole in their chest was too much.

Second place was surely nothing to scoff at. And when they awoke in the medical bay, they were still … pleased. Second place was a decent showing. They were less pleased when they realized it meant an evening stuck in interviews, despite not having survived the final ring.

Though, as they wandered the many halls from the medbay to the interview room and caught sight of a particular man running on ahead, their mood picked up again. Mirage’s interviews were entertaining at the very least, especially when paired with no-nonsense legends like Bangalore and Caustic. His charisma often shone through even at the worst of times, but the moments he was left fumbling were something else altogether.

Others passed them in the halls, but Bloodhound didn’t mind. That slow pace was their normal. They were the last of the top six to make it to the interview space and they lingered outside of the door. It wasn’t considered unusual or unexpected by anyone who would be present. The hunter’s opinion was widely known: they hated interviews. They hated being under the bright lights and not being allowed to leave, and especially hated the questions by people who obviously didn’t know what they were talking about. But… it was in their contract.

Bloodhound was in the middle of trying to work up the willpower to force themself inside when a body pushed past getting out.

“S-sorry.”

“Mirage?” They righted themself and brushed off their chest where he had run into them. “Are you alright?”

“I … just needed a little air.” The man sighed. “Just a little out of sorts I think.”

“Well,” they paused, considering it. “You shall be in fine company then. The lights are awful.” Bloodhound chuckled slightly. They leaned against the wall beside them and nodded toward the interior.

Conversations with him were so much easier to start these days.

“I was more thinking about the noise, but yeah. Long days and all sorts of contracts. I wish I could just go home right now.” He leaned against the wall on the other side of the door. “At the very least, put this off for a little while longer.”

“The noise is bothering you that much?”

He shrugged. “Sometimes a man wants to be in front of the cameras, and sometimes he wants to be away from them. Simple as that.”

“If… if you wish, I can show you to where I hide out when the idea of the questioning is too much,” Hound offered. “It is not too far.”

“Yeah. That doesn’t sound too bad, I do have to go back in eventually. I’ve got a mandatory number of journalists to talk to before I get to leave.” he chuckled a little.

Even tired, it was a nice sound.

They smiled underneath their mask and pushed off the wall to lead him down another hall. In this location, the lights were a little dimmer, it ended abruptly with double doors that were locked, the sound from the interviewing room carried just enough to know when they had to return, and they’d never seen another person down here. It was perfect.

Elliott sighed happily when he saw it.

“Wow… are you sure you want to share this with me?” The man spread his arms and spun, taking in the space. “Next thing you know, it might be my little hideaway.”

“I’m sure we could share it. Despite your mouth, you only take up so much space, mikilmunnr.” It was a well known tease between them at this point. “You would need to be quiet about it though. Hard as that may be.”

He laughed. “Hey, I’m exceptional with secrets. How many people have I told that you actually have a sense of humour?”

“Hmmm, but I do seem to recall you mentioning the books I read to Renee, once.” For a split second, Bloodhound feared that it was too dismissive of a tone and the back and forth would be over. Every word felt like they were getting further and further in over their head but they couldn’t stop themself.

It was Mirage’s turn to scoff, making them breath an internal sigh of relief.

“If you wanted your pretty little romances to be a secret, maybe you shouldn’t have been reading them in the common areas, did’ja think about that one?”

His smile was radiant, even with the tired look in his eyes. The little bit of flush he seemed to have worked up at the tops of his cheekbones was just as delightful.

They wanted to keep doing this forever.

And that meant upping the ante.

“Stop flirting with me, I’m not going to fall for it, Elliott.” Hound was grinning under their mask, as they said it.

Elliott, in response narrowed his eyes before smirking. “If you think I’m flirting with you right now, then that probably says more about you than it does about me.”

They leaned forwards, just a touch. Anticipation was speeding through their veins. “And what, praytell, do you think it says about me?”

“I think it says that you want me to be flirting with you.” The smirk grew. “Hm? How’s that hit you?”

They wanted to wipe that stupid smirk off his face. Of course they wanted him to flirt with them, they wanted him to sweep them off their feet! They wanted to press him up against the wall. Their want was actually driving them crazy.

Did he not want to accuse them of it, or did Elliott really not see it? How much longer was Hound going to have to labour away, practicing social skills to make him get that? … Or was it all just, part of the game?

The unknown hit them and Hound’s excitement was tempered by uncertainty.

Elliott was still watching them closely. They could see his eyes flick around the shape of their helmet, no doubt trying to find anything that might give away their reaction.

“It hits … well,” they mumbled eventually. It sounded lame, but it just made Elliott’s smirk turn into an honest smile.

“Ooooh, so it hits ‘well’ does it? Was I right on the money?” There was a brightness to his eyes that seemed unreal. “Well, I guess if you want it so much, then I’ll have to do it now, won’t I? Really get some practice in.”

Bloodhound had just been lamenting that it seemed like he wasn’t picking up on it, but that seemed… to just be part of his flirting? To be honest, this was much easier understood when they weren’t a part of it. And now, when he was offering exactly what they wanted, why did they feel so unsatisfied?

Oh no... that worry did seemed to be right, they did need more practice at this all! Shit. Bloth was a fully grown adult, twice over nearly. Why had they never tried doing any of this in the past two decades?

Hound forced themself out of their internal struggle, once again hoping to find some sort of cue on what to do or say next based on what Mirage was doing … only to find him watching them. That, okay that one wasn’t too surprising, that was almost exactly what he had been doing before. The major difference was that that cocksure smile they liked so much had fallen away, and he didn’t seem to know what expression to be making.

That was fair, they didn’t know what expression to be making now either. Or what emotion to be feeling, or anything really.

Elliott must have picked up on something though, because he settled on looking embarrassed, watching the floor, and taking a step away from them. “So, uh, sorry. If that was a bit much.” He used an idle hand to adjust his goggles and then shake his hair out from underneath. “We should, you know, like, get back to our squads. Maybe just pretend this didn't happen?”

Bloodhound baulked. They did want this, you know, whatever it ended up being. Even if it was just this again, they did want it! Hound just … didn’t really know how to do it, in practice.

They took a breath and summoned up as much of the previous energy as they could. “It’s incredibly unfair to rescind an offer for practice, you know.”

That startled out a noise, somewhere between a scoff and a laugh, and he turned back to them in confusion. Clumsy as it was, he seemed to recognize they were trying not to end this. “What happened to uh, to my flirting not doing anything for you?”

“You also said you weren’t actually flirting yet,” Bloodhound responded after a moment to think. Why did they people they see do this in public never need to pause to think? At least it made sense in books, but in public people always seemed so snappy about it.

“Perhaps, let me see what your flirting is really like and then I’ll decide?”

Hound did their best to push through the lack of confidence they felt in this situation, but it was no doubt audible. They couldn’t dare to close their eyes and miss whatever happened next, but they wanted to hide away from the embarrassment.

Elliott’s head moved in a small nod that got larger and larger. “You know me; I’m all about making good impressions. Impressing people.”

“I’m sure once you, get started, you’ll, uh.” He hadn’t backed off yet, so Hound took a risk and tried to lean more into his manner of speech at least for their own practice. “You’ll knock my socks off?”

Mirage stared at them for a moment before breaking out into hearty guffaws. “Wh-Yeah! Yeah, babe, I’ll knock your socks off for sure!”  He laughed more, wiping his eyes, before trying to calm down. “Yeah… yeah, so, uh. You uh, you okay with this?”

“This? The … flirting?” Bloodhound looked down at him slightly and tilted their head in confusion, feeling their beads run into the side of their face.

“Well, yeah. Yeah, the flirting.” Elliott looked for a moment like he had ate a lemon. It made it obvious he had meant something else as well. “Uhm. Don’t worry about it, I’ll keep my mouth quiet about it all.”

Well. He could do that if he wanted, and they would do that if he wanted too, but… “I might like it more … if you talked about it.”

“The … flirting?” He parroted their question back to them.

It felt like there was a stone in their stomach, but even without practice and knowing when something could be reasonably understood, they felt they were not being gotten here. The pretense of romance’s doublespeak had to be dropped. “That it is I who is flirting back. And if … if you’d like, maybe it is I who would be interested in doing more.”

“…Maybe?” Elliott’s lopsided grin had returned, small as it was.

Oh the return of that grin was heavenly. It meant they were doing it right, they were doing it correctly. That things were going well.

They spoke slowly, picking their words. But hopefully, they were saying enough of the words they needed to so that he kept that pretty pretty grin. “Maybe. As long as you impress me.”

He chuckled. “Haven’t I told you before? Impressing people is what I do best.”

Bloodhound smiled beneath their mask as he slowly started to close the distance between them again. The hall the two had escaped to was only so wide to begin with but he had used that to it’s fullest extent.

“Let me know when you’d like to help me practice, hm, Houndie?” Elliott edged closer and closer.

They closed some of the distance.

A set of heavy footfalls sounded in the echoy space of the hall before a voice started calling out. It was weird to hear it on their ears, unobstructed, but Bloodhound tuned it out. Whoever it was, they wouldn't come down here, right? Why would they be wandering around the back halls during the interviews?

Bloodhound was much more in favour of the man currently wrapping his hands around their waist and pressing his nose into their cheek he was kissing them so hard. How were his hands warm enough that they could feel the heat as he felt his way up and down their coat?

It was intoxicating.

“HEY!”

The two of them jumped apart and Elliott instantly started groaning.

It appeared he was too close to the wall and had knocked his head into it? They’d have to apologize, it was their fault he had been pushed up against it in the first place.

“Not … why I was expecting you to be gone, Hound. But .. you’ve got an interview.” Bangalore stood at the entrance to the hall, looking bemused. “I knew you’d been acting strange lately.”

Fuck.

They wiped their mouth, back of their hand feeling a little wet. Had he bitten their lip or was that something Bloodhound had dome themself?

“Hound? C’mon, no skipping class.” Bangalore leaned down and grabbed their goggles off the ground, holding them out for Hound to take. “Though you might want to put these back on first.”

They opened their mouth to speak and she just put up a finger. “I am going to be honest with you, I couldn’t care less. I just want this session over with. So uh. Put your shit back on and get in there.”

The anxiety bubbling up in their stomach quelled slightly. She was the person least likely to be lying about that. They quickly gathered up all the pieces of their gear they had discarded and rushed to put it back in place while the woman walked to the man they had just been kissing and slung her arm around his shoulders.

“Now, you on the other hand. You have no way to hide you look like - is that a fucking bite mark?”

Yes, perhaps it was Bloodhound and not Mirage who had been acting strange lately, but by everything above and below, they had enjoyed it.

i love this..... his raison d'etre being exclusively to defeat ky. <- this comes up later too (i love you nok)... like he kinda becomes Exclusively a pawn for the greater pwab story in mc and and also ac but.... like what a simple tie in to the constant gg theme of identity and being human and what not. this w his nok depiction make me fucking insnae... hes truly just some guy trying to prove he is Some Guy. like he sucks and should be put down ruthlessly but hey! thats something!! hes not just a ky clone hes the anticatholic ky clone and that makes him worthy of life just like anyone else. he should be not so weird about women though ok ?

i think i am too autistically attached to like. the assassins guild w millia and venom but the theme in gg that resonates w me most is this idea of life? and what it means to live. and this idea of wanting to live despite everything. life isnt something you earn or have to deserve . theres a lot in millia and eddies AC routes in particular when i think of this ...... anyways its why i genuinely really am touched by xrds portrayal of robo ky as this kinda like. dude who is jsut very confident in his own way of life. all his stuff about dreams and all is basically the exact same as millias ending in AC after she kills eddie and realizes she can move on and live happily and find life outside of zato and shit. u know? i liek when gg does this - telling the same story over and over in different ways. this one in particular is just the one i find myself coming to over and over again....

i also really like robo ky as a like . motivation for venoms arc? i guess? i cant word that. but all the assassins guild members go thru this mostly thru the urge of slayer this like realization they are more than just objects and weapons and can live and find themselves and what not. and like slayer kinda pushes venom over To robo ky as his own sort of mirror in that storyline. which is cute. it works. for both of them . theyre two very interesting characters to pair together and i get why they did it especially w the nok story of robo ky watching mk ii die and be unable to save him and venoms themes in ac mostly ending w this cautionary warning of his own destruction if he keeps up the whole ignoring the guild to look for zato thing. i just like it.

^ in this it does baffle me they became like the Yaoi bait or whatever i dont really understand that. i think theyre silly together but they have such a fucking interesting dynamic... crying rolling around i want their story to continue so bad and not because im biased and want either of them in strive because i think theyre the most fun gimmick characters. hey speaking of that htye are the most fucking fun characters im glad theyre the two arc sys paired up for xrd cus it means i get content of both my mains together easily. epic fucking win. the issue of this is that sadly they are both bad to women . venom is just slightly better because hes just awful to one specific woman and calls her a bitch so so so much . anwyays bad influences on each other on that issue but i like that two of the characters whos struggles focus on being human and reconning with being just a tool of those that gave them life get solace with each other. makes me happy

* Currently studying to get her PHD in chemistry.

* Captain of her university’s softball team, but despite her Star-power they have not won a game.

* Knows how skateboard but can’t do tricks (Carrie’s trying to teach her though).

Angie

* Works as a counselor at a high school.

* She can switch out of her werewolf-vampire form at will because it’s effectively a magical girl transformation. This makes her immune to sunlight in both forms, but she can never eat garlic or chocolate again. She is very upset about this.

Molly

* She runs with a whole gang of sea monster environmental terrorists! They are all very cool.

* ^^ including her partner Corrie. Might include them as a playable character at some point but I gotta draw them normally first.

Mimi

*No one really knows anything about Mimi. They know she’s a real nurse, and a really good one at that, and that she’s divorced and that’s about it.

Edith

* June and Andrew’s grandma!

* Turns out being a magical girl runs in the family and just skipped a generation lol.

* Used to have rocket/missile powers in her prime but it takes a lot of out her so now she elects to beat the shit out of people with her walker.

Andrew

* Has 2 older sisters that are like 10-15 years older than him, so he and June were always super close cus they were the same age.

* Ratatouille is his favorite movie which is why he adopted Feta.

* His magical girl powers actually gave Feta and basil human level sentience so they help him in the kitchen! Well, Feta does. Basil mostly just tried to eat stuff. They are both very good at washing their hands :) they also can’t talk lol

* June is a very good baker thanks in part to her knowledge of chemistry. Her skills are actually on par with Andrew’s to the point that they have family baking competitions on a regular basis. Andrew is currently beating her in overall wins 15-13.

* Himbo

Kanaaq

* Ok I actually have a very funny backstory for Kanaaq:

* Kanaaq was offered her powers after saving a kid from getting crushed under falling debris in an earthquake, but her pogo stick broke in the process. So when foxolotl presented her with the “I’ll grant you a wish or give you a cool power if you promise to be a magical girl” she asked for her pogo stick to get fixed and IMMEDIATELY regretted it cus she’s trans and she very quickly realized she could’ve used her wish for free top-surgery lmao 😂

* She is sick nasty on her pogo stick like she can do backflips and stuff it’s crazy. Carrie refuses to take her to her usual skate park cus she doesn’t want to get shown up by someone on a pogo stick. Because Kanaaq would absolutely EAT her in a trick competition lmao 😂

* I also have ideas for 2 playable characters that’ll eventually be Kanaaq’s girlfriends but I gotta focus on the main cast first lol.

Iris

* Foxolotl brought her to life cus her fungal colony was solely responsible for saving a dying tree from decay and deforesters. She’s like 2 years old.

* Her magical girl transformation turns her into the guy, she’s normally just a mushroom. When she isn’t in her person form she lives on a tree outside of Rumblebella’s house :)

Bea

* Very successful manager for a restaurant franchise based on her parents restaurant.

* Despite both of her parents being chefs she can’t cook for shit!! She had tried to learn so many times and it just does not work. Only thing she can really make is cereal and she’s on thin fucking ice with that.

* Her wish was to have fans as weapons, like Katana from mortal kombat. Foxolotl gravely misinterpreted this!! And that is why she has a box fan. Bea is still mad at him for this.

* Huuuuuge fuckin dork. Reads a lot of comics, loves super hero movies, plays a lot of fighting games. Mains Anji in guilty gear.

Gwen

* Works for the coast guard (I imagine they all live in a coastal town in California) and got her wish (and most of her scars) from saving her crewmate from a shark when he fell overboard during a storm.

* She actually wore an eyepatch for a long time before the pirate look because she has strabismus in her left eye and has always been self conscious about it.

Montero

* He is an actual, rootin tootin cowboy. Small town sherif with his own ranch and everything 😂

* Killed his former best friend in a standoff after a series of events led her to becoming corrupted and evil. He still feels terrible about it.

Rumblebella

* Rumblebella was originally a toy owned by a young girl who experienced physical abuse at the hands of her father. Foxolotl brought Rumblebella to life to BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF THAT GUY and it worked and he’s gone. Toy story brought to its logical conclusion.

* In lieu of legs, she can float!

* Can eat food and it scares everyone. Where does it go 👁👁

Lucy

* Got her wish after saving a guy from getting crushed under a huge weight while working out without a spot at the gym. Afterwards her wish was to “be able to fall asleep instantly and always wake up feeling rested.” She was ripped before the wish lmao these things are unrelated.

Kasomar

* Personally asked Foxolotl to make them a magical girl so they could experience what it was like to be human. This was kinda a stretch for Foxolotl’s abilities so best he could do was compress them into a weird-stretched human body. Kasomar experiences all time at once’s like Dr. Manhattan, but despite this is still able to make meaningful friendships.

* CAN ALSO EAT FOOD DESPITE NOT HAVING A MOUTH FOXOLOTL DOESNT EVEN KNOW HOW THIS HAPPENED

Dahlia

* Dahlia died in the mid 1800’s around the time of the civil war. Her family owned slaves and her moral opposition to this eventually led to her helping the family on her estate escape and then got her killed by her family’s guardsmen. Foxolotl was impressed with her bravery and decided to revive her as a magical girl but fucked up SO SEVERELY that her spirit and body were separated in the process.

* Dahlia is actually the first zombie like ever??? Ghosts exist in this world but zombies don’t. Not too many necromancers out there lol

* To differentiate who they’re talking about the gang has taking to calling the two of them Zahlia (zombie Dahlia) and Ghalia (ghost Dahlia). Ghalia does not like this

* Oops! Catholic guilt!

Carrie

* Takes up a bunch of minimum wage and odd jobs to support herself so she can spend more time pursuing her hobbies. She doesn’t have any great career aspirations. June is slightly disappointed in this but doesn’t say anything about it.

* Was raised by a single mother and thinks that Tony Hawk is her biological father. She does not know that Tony Hawk is a human.

Foxolotl

* He has a mom! I drew my mom a Mother’s Day card with Foxolotl and his mom on it so I’m deciding Mamalotl is canon lol.

* Where did he come from?? What’s his purpose?? We may never know!! He is very bad at it though, whatever it is.

* He’s kind of a god? But like a low level god. Kasomar held more power than him pre-transformation. Like god and Zeus and whatever are legendary Pokémon and Foxolotl is a mythical Pokémon lmao 😂

yeah, and he DOES have a problem with how careless he is with the steppe’s faith as all faiths, like I didn’t like how he went about surrecting seiryu’s wall for instance. he’s very irreverent; it’s probably cus well his whole life burned down in front of his eyes and he couldnt do anything about it because he was a weak child against forces way too big for him to even comprehend at the time, but this also shows in the fact he is willing to sink his own castle and childhood home to win. like I get the impression that he’s like lyse; he doesnt believe there’s anyone watching over him, doesn’t believe the gods will answer his prayers, and thus places little personal investment in symbology even as he recognizes that other people do. other characters are like this—zenos and aymeric for instance—but they mysteriously get very little shit for it and are even praised for it.

but when the xaela say “this is how we do things, this is is what we believe”, he, for the most part, respects it. I think he’s a bit like lol kim from DE in that he sees dominant religions as not expecting faith, but simply compliance. he never says or implies that their beliefs are silly or worthless, sees them as a way of life that has saved him, and almost always lives within it. I think it’s weird to view the naadam so rigidly and to expect the steppe to all interpret it the same; I think it’s weird that the fandom thinks that they would have tolerated hien as the sacrilegious tyrant they paint him as “just because the gods have spoken”. he was very much adopted by the Mol but he knew someone would come for his head or leadership eventually, and yet he had nowhere else to go. the idea that he’s an invader, that he holds power over them who are his victims, that he’s incorrigibly too different to live there, is like. IT’S WEIRD?

arguably, the WoL the “godslayer” Lol has been far more disrespectful to the beliefs and traditions of others. regardless of our intent we have trampled pretty callously on the faiths and lives of other people in the interest of the citystates. like the primals may have been false but a ton of them have been very real manifestations of their summoner’s anger at the injustice and terror they faced combined with genuine faith in their gods and we pretty much just methodically stomp them out without really (after yshtola saying something One Time) considering using that force in the other direction to fix the heart of the issue. and the fandom loves that you can brag about it so I just do notttt get it 🦆
