Oh, you're not off at all. Forgive me, I did not originally understand your meaning in the first question:

Do you think there's going to be a moment where Bakugou comes to terms with the fact that he might never be the number 1 the way he wanted? I can see the story is going on a "save to win" route, but I've been curious about how him realizing his most powerful attacked only grazed Shigaraki will play out.

I thought by not being "the number 1 the way he wanted," you meant his original idea of it from the beginning of the series--the "win no matter what" mentality without a thought for saving anybody. I see now you meant something different.

It sounds like you were asking if Katsuki will ever face the possibility that he may never surpass Izuku or be able to reach Izuku's level when it comes to firepower, that Katsuki may be in Endeavor's situation (not with Endeavor's mindset though) where he constantly sees how wide the gap between them is and must reconcile with that, that Katsuki may have to settle on a "number one" where he surpasses Izuku not with his own strength but only with help from others (i.e. teamwork).

To which I must say, uh, western fans, we gotta talk.

Anon, you may not be guilty of harboring the idea I'm about to challenge, but I see this one particular sentiment all over the place in the English-speaking fandom, and I really need to make something clear to everyone:

Horikoshi has never stated there is an upper limit on any character's power growth potential--NOT EVEN IZUKU'S.

Don't get confused by the "100% One For All" thing. That's a measure of how much of One For All Izuku is USING. It's meant to compare with how much power All Might could use at 100%--but Izuku's real 100% will be different. One For All didn't just get more powerful by being passed on. Each user before Izuku, including notably Shinomori, cultivated and improved the power. Izuku will do so too. His current 100% is not his end-all-be-all 100% over the course of his life. Izuku can train and work hard and grow and make One For All stronger, too.

And Izuku isn't the only one who can do this. Anyone, Katuski included, can improve their quirk. They don't have some set 100% limit they can't increase with enough effort.

To which you might say: okay, but realistically, there is SOME upper limit to that, right?

But actually...no. This is manga/anime, not real life. And shounen manga is particularly notorious for its focus on effort and improvement through hard work. This is a time-honored tradition of the genre dating all the way back to Son Goku of Dragonball (and probably even further back too). The upper limits of Goku's power growth become so absolutely ludicrous as his series carries on and needs him to grow stronger--SO HE JUST GETS STRONGER. That's like the EPITOME of what he is: someone who wants to get stronger so he works to get stronger and, lo and behold, he gets stronger!

And lest we forget, Horikoshi has named Goku as one of his ideals of a "hero," as one of the characters from whom All Might (and by extension Katsuki) takes inspiration.

You know how each generation of quirks has greater potential than the last? This is a direct parallel of One For All's evolution. It showcases that ALL quirks have the ability to evolve into something powerful just like One For All did; it's just a matter of what the quirk user does with it. And each generation can cultivate their quirk and pass it along to get even stronger too. If you want to be a real stickler about how maybe only CERTAIN generations of quirks could surpass One For All, sure, fine, whatever (actually not fine but I'll deal with this later*). We don't know which generation of quirk users Katsuki falls into, and there's a real chance he doesn't know either. But he was born in the same generation as Izuku, so there's no reason his quirk can't be of a ninth generation too. So, he has every reason to believe he could become just as strong as Izuku. He always believed he could surpass All Might, after all.

*Okay let's deal with this little nugget now. Does the ordinal generation of Katsuki's quirk really matter? Not really. Izuku's power was cultivated by many as a theme, but he acknowledges his is a strength made from others'. That doesn't make One For All inherently the best quirk ever, just that it was able to become so strong BECAUSE of others. If the others had done nothing with it, it wouldn't have become so powerful. MHA acknowledges there are other important and good ways of improving one's power: through hard work and effort. It's not that one form of cultivation is absolutely better than the other, just that they both have their uses--and that BOTH TOGETHER would be the best route to improve one's power. This ties into how Japan traditionally views talent and intelligence as products of hard work and improvement in contrast to how the west traditionally views these things as inherent and set at birth. If you're unaware, the Japanese word for "quirk," kosei, translates to "individuality/personality." Individuality/personality is also one of those traits a person has that can be seen as inherent or cultivated--but really it's a product of BOTH. The question of nature versus nurture, as always, is answered with "well actually, both nature and nurture play a part."

(If you want to go off on a tangent with this, go read whatever is the latest version of @siflshonen's Katsuki Bakugou powerpoint presentation on their blog at the time you are reading this.)

Now, I told you all that to tell you this:

Katsuki should never have to face the idea that he will never be able to be number 1 because it's simply not true.

Katsuki has every potential to surpass Izuku. If Izuku were to be satisfied with his quirk's growth and call it quits, Katsuki's quirk's growth would eventually outshine his GUARANTEED. It's because Katsuki is that kind of character, and this is demonstrated in spades throughout the entire manga. Gosh, remember when Izuku said he was only using 8% of OFA in Deku vs Kacchan, Part 2? Remember how the fandom assumed he would dwarf everyone else in comparison as he progressed further down the line?

And remember how Katsuki "grit his teeth to keep from falling behind"?

Everyone's always going on about how Izuku's power will someday eclipse everyone else's, but he's had that monstrous OFA power with him all along since he got it. He just has to improve his BODY to match OFA's power. Has no one really put any thought to how absolutely BATSHIT it is that Katsuki kept up with him? After Katsuki's growth had stalled for so long?

Remember, Izuku's raw power surpassed Katsuki's in DvK2. So by the time of the Paranormal Liberation War, Katsuki developed his quirk to match OFA at 30% in the same amount of time it took Izuku just to develop his body to handle that much OFA. If we're gonna get into the western versions of power-scaling where we care about natural limits...

THE HEIGHTS OF KATSUKI'S "NATURAL" LIMITS ARE EMPIRICALLY ASTRONOMICALLY INSANE.

So, I come back to something you said:

But if you mean he'll reconcile with how his firepower compares to TomurAFO's, I'd say, uh, keep an eye out, because already he's had a quirk upgrade since he tried his Howitzer Cluster on TomurAFO. It's very likely that is no longer the upper limit of his capabilities. And that's just assuming he hasn't achieved any other power ups yet/won't get another one soon.

Katsuki's Howitzer Impact Cluster vs TomurAFO was a single snapshot in time. Katsuki has already had a quirk upgrade since then, and as you so aptly pointed out, he's had a sort of philosophical/meta upgrade too as he emulated Izuku. I doubt these will be the last improvements he experiences in his life. He was always held back from surpassing Izuku by the story because he was missing such a huge part of being a hero: saving people. But that's been resolved now. He and Izuku will be rivals who challenge each other to be better for the rest of their lives, and I doubt either one of them will ever truly pull away from the other in terms of raw potential (at least not for long). Katsuki may have instances of self-doubt, of course. He even may at some point acknowledge Izuku as his superior. But I don't think that's a reason for him to ever lose hope or give up. I think there's plenty of reason for anyone to believe it's possible for him to surpass Izuku someday. After all, All Might was considered the best hero of his age not because of his strength but because of his spirit.

And Katsuki's sure got a shitton of spirit.

Even the title is stunning. I mean... the gang is back! The original Dragon Ball isn't dead. But now look at him... In truth, he never stopped getting excited about fighting. Here he's the only one who seems purely motivated. A little reckless, but still cute. That's our good ol' Yamcha.

I guess "agent Yamcha" is just the minimum... But we make do!

Well well well... Welcome back, Yamcha! You really seem to have remembered who you really are and you can be! You're let it get you down too many times for no reason and this has been your greatest weakness. The only one.

This is really touching. He never denied his most famous technique... The one and only Rōgafūfūken! Just look at his fingers put like a wolf fang. I can hear his unmistakable howl!

After all, generally he never denied himself. And his long hair too. I'm so glad they've come back. This is a really important point about his personality. Bulma tried to fix him in many things... Sometimes she has helped him, but other times she has only damaged him. I think Yamcha is slowly retracing his steps to create a better version of himself. Not just a parody.

Oh please... It had been a long time since I had seen him so proud of himself. Look at that cocky pose! Damn, how cute...

Got a real taste. He just realized he can still help and now no one can stop him. Well, sort of. The rest of the chapter doesn't show anything relevant about him. Except for a small part.

We can see Yamcha, but also Tenshinhan, Kurillin and even Chiaotzu, helping Goku with their energy. Like the old days. It's amazing they included them.

Okay, this one hurts a little. It's comforting that Toriyama didn't forget this detail... Yamcha's only wish has always been to get married. Since 1985, when he first appeared. Considering that this line dates back to 2020... It's been a long time, hasn't it? Back then he was a shy 16-year-old boy with many expextations for his future... Now he's a man, he lost so much, but his need for love never changed. So... Does he really have to ask Shenron as he wanted to do so many years ago?! Or worse, wait 1200 years...

Come on, Akira! He doesn't need the dragon balls!

Give him his real chance.

Guys... I would say that all of this is an incredible goal for Yamcha's fans.

I haven't done a lot of drawing lately due to this thing called "life." However, I finally got around to doing another sketch dump featuring my favorite Ginyu Force member, Guldo. Yet again, this is just another means to give him the proper respect he deserves.

I want to emphasize that the scenarios I made up for this dump aren't canon in any way. I simply made these random dumps to see what it would look like if Guldo was an actor playing as the character with the same name and what life he could have outside of acting for Dragonball Z. Some questions just popped into my head, including the following: What's Guldo's portrayer like? What does he like to do? What accommodations did he need to get the role? What life does he have outside of Dragonball Z?

Overall, this dump was a nice, refreshing way to get back into doing one of my favorite hobbies: draw just for the heck of it! I wanna do more of this at a later date; but until then, I hope you enjoy it!

Now your wondering why I gave you that name from Demon Slayer. I can explain (I’m not good at these much, so I apologize if this isn’t the best.

With using this similar to Giyu, you use your weapon (you’ll see it under this…) you can make most attacks stop with just hitting them with your weapon and around you, you’ll be surrounded by a calmness, wind, and when you see the water slow down into just a glass floor, that’s when you know you can stop any attack with just that.

Your special weapon is… A Bow! 🏹

What was this reason why I gave you a bow, with interacting with you and learning more about you’re personalitys, likes, and more through out the matchups, your personality and just your aura is just so mystically calming and warm, and your able to comfort someone and help out someone in need, this is why I gave you a bow, it’s a very special one too /IMO

Dragon Ball GT 41

✨GT Stands for Glum Tournament✨

It’s time for the World Martial Arts Tournament!  GT Style!  That means it’s really bad.  For example, here’s a scene of Goten on a date with Palace, and she’s trying hamburgers for the first time.  Goten isn’t in the tournament, and he has absolutely nothing to do with the tournament.  He just hears about it on the TV in this restaurant. 

Vegeta is also not in the tournament, but he still shows up anyway because he wants to fight Goku.  You’d think he would have challenged him before this, but it’s like he heard the news coverage of the tournament and suddenly remembered he’s never beaten the guy. 

Unfortunately for Vegeta, Goku is unavailable, because he is in the tournament..... the junior division that is!  Uh-oh!  He’s a 53-year-old man, but everyone thinks he’s a little kid!  It’s a recipe for wackiness!

So yeah, Goku’s spent all afternoon beating up defenseless children, because he’s such a great hero.  While he’s shooting the breeze with Vegeta, his opponent in the final round panics and just goes apeshit, knocking Goku out of the ring.  At least, that’s how I remembered this episode going...

... but it turns out that Goku didn’t land outside the ring right away.  Instead he managed to cling to the edge, so his opponent started tickling him until he let go and lost the match.  Goku can fly, right?  Like, I’m pretty sure that’s something he knows how to do.  And you might argue that he wasn’t taking this competition very seriously, but then why did he enter in the first place? 

I mean, Goku and Vegeta can literally fight each other whenever they want, but for some reason, they both seem to have forgotten about it.  So Goku slums it in this tournament for lack of any better ideas, and then Vegeta hears about it and he’s like “Oh, yeah, I knew I was forgetting something!”

At the end of the episode, Vegeta challenges Goku again, and it looks like they’re about to throw down, but then Goku calls it off because he’s hungry!  Everyone shares a big laugh, including Vegeta, which kind of pisses me off. GT has run the “Goku wants to eat first” gag into the ground, and here they use it yet again, and it’s supposed to be this laugh riot.  It sucks. 

Okay, so here’s the A-plot: Mister Satan is still bummed out about Majin Buu’s death in Episode 32.  Well, I’m not sure Buu actually died.  He merged with Uub, so I guess he’s still alive as a part of Uub, but he had a farewell scene with Satan, and Satan’s pretty depressed about it, so I think it’s fair to say that Majin Buu is dead, if only in a dramatic sense. 

I think some fans lump this episode in with the Super 17 saga, but I prefer to consider it a coda to the Baby Saga, since the episode is about Satan moving on after losing Buu, which happened because of Baby.  As we saw in the final episodes of Dragon Ball Z, Mr. Satan told the world that Majin Buu was his star pupil, and he used his stroke to change the rules of the Tournament.  Before, fighters would have to qualify for an eight-person, single-elimination bracket, and the winner would be declared the new champion.  But by the 26th Budokai, the winner of the bracket simply earned a match with the defending champion, Mr. Satan.  Majin Buu would make sure to win, then take a dive for Satan to allow him to retain his title.  Of course, we saw the 28th Budokai play out in the final episode of DBZ, where Goku and Uub abandoned their match and the tournament was canceled. 

Well, this is the 31st Tenkaichi Budokai, and for the first time in 15 years, Mr. Satan can’t do the usual formula of having Buu sweep the bracket and do the job for the champ.  Satan might be able to get someone from Dragon Team to help him out, but that’s not the point.   He misses Majin Buu, and he’s starting to wonder what the point is to keeping up this routine.  And so Satan announces in this episode that he plans to retire after this tournament is over.  Whoever wins the match to face him for the title will be named his successor.

There’s this weird bit where Trunks hears the news while listening to a radio during a Capsule Corp board meeting, and everyone panics because they think Trunks is resigning as President of their company, but then they find out it’s Satan who’s retiring, and they flip out even more.  Trunks uses the chaos to sneak out of work, and he flies to the tournament stadium to see what’s going on, but I don’t really get why he’s so interested in this.  I mean, what does it matter to him if Mr. Satan retires?

For some reason, I could have sworn that Trunks really did resign as President of Capsule Corp. in Episode 42, but maybe I got it wrong.  We’ll find out soon enough.  Anyway, this feels like a weak attempt to shoehorn Trunks into the story, since he’s all over the opening credits. 

Pan, on the other hand, fits right into this story, since she’s Mr. Satan’s granddaughter, and her Saiyan power makes her the heir apparent to the Mr. Satan combat sports empire.  And she even enters the tournament, but just for the fun of fighting.  Once she learns that the tournament winner will become Satan’s successor, she withdraws from the competition.  She wants more out of life than following in her grandfather’s footsteps.

So she spends the rest of the event eating lollipops with her parents.  I don’t want to harp too much on the cheap animation shortcuts in this series, but I found these sequences kind of strange and offputting until I realized that they probably only used them here because it allowed the characters to talk without any lip flaps. 

Naturally, Pan’s resignation upsets Mr. Satan’s plans.  He was the one who arranged for the junior division to have a height requirement instead of an age requirement this year.  That way Goku would be kept out of the adult division, while giving Pan (who is taller) a clear shot at the finals.  Wait, why didn’t Goku just turn Super Saiyan 4?  I mean, if there’s a height requirement, that doesn’t matter, because he can change his height at will.  Well, too late for that now. 

Okay, so if Goku, Vegeta, Goten, Trunks, Gohan, Videl, and Pan are all out of the tournament, and Piccolo and Majin Buu are dead, then who’s left?  Well, it turns out to be Papaya Man, a mysterious new competitor who sweeps the whole bracket. 

Pan is impressed when she sees him in action, and starts to wish she hadn’t quit before facing him.   Also, she stuffs her lollipop in her mouth and turns into nightmare fuel.  Hey, if I had to look at this, then so do you.

But “Papaya Man” turns out to be Uub in disguise.  I forget why he used an alias.  I think it was something about him being nervous in front of crowds?  It doesn’t matter.  The point is, it’s Uub vs. Satan for the world title, and Uub doesn’t bother holding back.  He really wants the championship, and he seems to think he needs to fight with everything he’s got to win it. 

I don’t understand this, since he’s been training with Goku for five years.  You’d think at some point Goku would have let him in on the whole Mr. Satan thing.  But Uub seems to think that Mr. Satan really is a dangerous opponent for some reason.

Then, just as Uub goes to knock Satan out of the ring, he hears Majin Buu’s voice telling him to let Satan win, because if he loses, “everyone will be sad.”  Uub just sort of freezes in place, so it seems like Buu is somehow controlling his body rather than convincing Uub to take a dive.  Wait, if Buu can control Uub like this, and talk to him whenever he wants, then why did he wait until just now to explain this to Uub?

Anyway, Satan manages to knock Uub out of the ring while Uub is frozen, so he wins.  And Mr. Satan is gobsmacked, because he thinks he won all on his own, something he hasn’t done in decades.  He’s so overjoyed, and so moved by the crowd’s adulation that he decides he won’t retire after all. 

Uub is disappointed at first.  The others congratulate him on letting Satan have the big win, but it wasn’t Uub’s choice.  But then, as he sees Satan celebrating with his fans, he starts to understand why it mattered so much to Buu.  I seem to remember the dub version having Buu explain it in greater detail. 

Oh, also, there’s this weird running gag where cars keep crashing into each other throughout the episode.   I think it’s supposed to be that motorists are hearing about the shocking news of Mr. Satan’s retirement, and they end up getting so distracted that they crash into each other, but I’m not sure.  It’s very odd.

✨ “Good” “Ideas”, Poorly Executed.✨

When Totally Not Mark covered this episode in his GT review, he seemed very touched by Majin Buu’s parting gesture. Satan was all bummed out about not getting to win another tournament with his buddy, and then Majin Buu basically gave him one more win for old times’ sake, using Uub as a proxy.  And yeah, I can appreciate that. 

Buuuuut, this whole episode sort of underscores how far the characters have evolved beyond the Tenkaichi Budokai.  When it was introduced, it was a proving ground for Goku and his friends.  In DBZ, it was a place for Dragon Team to have a friendly reunion, as well as a way to reintroduce Mr. Satan for the Buu saga.  But in GT, it doesn’t serve either of those purposes.  All of the characters basically hang out together all the time anyway, and they’ve all become so powerful that the tournament competition is meaningless to them.  Goku doesn’t care if he wins or loses, Pan enters and withdraws on a whim, and Trunks only seems to care because he wants to know what happens with Mr. Satan.  Uub seems to be the only one who takes the competition seriously, but he looks like a fool because of this.  It’s like no one let him in on the joke.

You can argue that the Tenkaichi Budokai still matters for Mr. Satan, but... does it, though?  I mean, sure, it used to matter a lot to him.  I always loved that scene where he imagined everyone turning against him if he lost to Android 18.  In his mind, even his own daughter would want nothing to do with him if he failed to defend his world title.  And afterward, when he became part of Goku’s circle, rigging the tournament every year was kind of this cool thing he did to maintain his prestige.  It’s how he was able to convince the people of Earth to evacuate to the Tuffle Planet. 

But by this point, Satan’s held the world title for about 23 years.  The people love him unconditionally, and he’s a living legend.  He doesn’t need to win this event anymore.  He could step aside at any time and people would still love him anyway.  And more importantly, Mr. Satan has the love of people who know him for who he really is, so defending his title doesn’t factor into that anymore.  

And as the episode starts, he seems to have figured this out for himself.  The last few tournaments really were just something he and Buu did for fun, and now that Buu’s gone, he realizes he stopped needing it a long time ago.  I feel like this was the thought that GT should have followed through on.  What does Mr. Satan do with himself beyond the World Tournaments?  What’s the next chapter of his life?  But instead, Buu gives Satan one more win, and it convinces Satan to stay in the game a while longer, at least until the next tournament, where he’ll probably end up facing the same existential crisis. 

And sure, Buu did something really sweet for his friend.  I don’t want to trample all over that moment, but you know, this episode feels like a metaphor for everything that’s wrong with Dragon Ball GT.  The series was conceived as a way to focus on “the next generation”, which is how we got Pan and Trunks in the main cast.  But Goku had to be in the lead, and he’s old as balls, so they turned him into a kid in a weak attempt to have their cake and eat it too.  Meanwhile, Trunks and Pan barely get to do anything in this show, and other “next generation” characters (Uub, Bulla, Marron, Goten) hardly appear at all. 

Episode 41 is all about Mr. Satan deciding to move on and pass the torch, sort of like how Master Roshi tried to pass the torch to Tien in the 22nd World Tournament.  The problem is that the torch kind of doesn’t matter.  The Tenkaichi Budokai is a joke now, because it’s been a rigged event for decades.  I’m going all the way back to when Chiaotzu would use his telekinesis to rig the brackets.  And even if the torch did matter, no one wants it.  Pan flat out refuses it.  Uub thinks he wants it, then he has a change of heart and decides he doesn’t need it.  So Satan keeps the torch, but it’s pretty clear that he has no use for it. 

Does this sound familiar?  GT opened with Goku declaring that Uub had completed his training to become the defender of the Earth, but it never really mattered, because Goku never went away.  The series implied a shift to the next generation, but it never actually happens, because all the focus is on the old characters like Goku, Vegeta, and Mr. Satan.  When Goten and Trunks offer to use fusion, they’re told to skip it.  When Uub tries to become world champion, Majin Buu stops him.  When Pan does anything too heroic or independent, Kozo Morishita cuts her off. The big climax of this series is Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, not Badass Coolguy Uub and Double-Ultra Saiyan Pan.  And even if the show really did shift to one of the younger characters, what’s the point?   We’re 41 episodes in.  This show gets canceled in about six months, so why bother? 

Okay, so it’s a show about Goku.  Not a problem, that worked in DBZ.  Goku doesn’t need to pass the torch, just like Mr. Satan doesn’t need to give up his World Title reign.  Except...

This isn’t really a show about Goku either.  He’s all over this series, and he has a nifty new transformation, but it’s not the same character.  He does a lot of pointless gags, like losing a juinor tournament to tickle torture, and always being hungry all the time.  They could have him fight Vegeta for five episodes just because that’s a fun thing both characters would like to do. It’s a crowd-pleaser.  They put a little Goku-Vegeta battle in both Dragon Ball Super films and no one complained.  But GT won’t do that either.  So if it won’t focus on the younger characters, and it won’t take the older characters seriously, then what does that leave?

And this is why I find GT Vegeta quite relatable.  He grew his mustache and wore his middle-age dad clothes, just as the showrunners wanted, and then they got cold feet and put him back in the limelight, so now he’s dressed like Early 2000′s Wolverine, looking like a classic tough guy, but they won’t let him play that role either.  All because this series can’t decide what it wants to be.  It can’t do lighthearted adventure, it sucks at comedy, and it refuses to commit to Z-style mayhem.  So we’re constantly left with farce. 

To put it another way, there’s like eight or nine fights in this episode, and none of them matter, because all of them are total mismatches.  Papaya Man suplexes this dude and it doesn’t mean a damn thing, because wins and losses are irrelevant in this episode... about a tournament.  Think about that for a minute.

✨ Positivity Page✨

I do kind of like this enormous dude who gets matched against Pan in the tournament.  She shows up for her match and she’s stunned by how huge he is, which seems weird because you’d think she would have noticed this guy at the prelims, or during the drawing for the brackets, or when they were in line at catering.  He’s taller than the stadium is my point.

Also, he stomps on Pan and somehow draws blood?  It’s pretty cool to have Pan wear the Crimson Mask, even if this is only 0.1 on the Muta Scale, but this seems like a strange place to do it.   Baby hit her several times during the fight on the Tuffle Planet, and she never seemed to get a scratch. 

But again, none of this really has any impact because the competition is pointless.  Pan just raises her ki and knocks this huge dude on his ass. Then she pulls out of the tournament, so I guess this was just a big ol’ bye in the tournament.  Byes suck.  The only time they’re any good is when they let dastardly heels get a free pass to the finals, while the babyface has to win several rounds through blood, sweat, and tears.   Like WrestleMania IV, and even that wasn’t exactly a great tournament.

✨Is this Episode worse than “The Roaming Lake”?✨

 Initially, I was on the fence about this, because the episode has a strong start, and the focus on Satan moving on after losing Buu was compelling.  But things got really dumb really quickly, and it is pretty grating to have a tournament episode full of fights but zero action or suspense in any of them.

Also, when Goku does the “I’m hungry” bit at the end, there’s this line from the narrator that just bugs the shit out of me.  “Always, no matter the time, Goku is Goku.  It is that Goku that everyone loves.”

What the fuck does that mean? Of course everyone loves Goku, he’s awesome.  Just look at this dude.

Ha ha!  He’s playing Fortnite!  Look at him running around with that gun.  Goku, what are you doing with that, my man?  You’re too much. 

GT seemed to really want to show Goku off in every episode, but they never seemed to have anything in particular to say about Goku, which leads to lines like “Goku is Goku” from the narrator.  “Yessir, people sure do like that Goku!  What a Goku this Goku turned out to be!   Remember when Goku was here?  He sure is a special guy.”

Well, Goku was also Goku in “The Roaming Lake”, and they actually showed him being a swell guy, instead of just talking about it.  TRL wins again.

I don’t think I’ll ever post them (unless I severely rewrite them, they’re too personally based as they are currently) but my two main self insert/ x reader stories are:

BHNA: Assistant Teacher for the staff of UA (not like a TA in college, an actual teacher who assists the other teachers. Would be late 20s- early 30s aged. ) Personally I can only imagine myself as quirkless. And my personal self insert is a former “manager” (handler/assistant?) for two hero ocs in America and later became a high school teacher and works with troubled kids with quirks.

I struggle with this one a bit as I’d like to be able to focus on all of the Staff of UA but I have so little grasp on all their characterizations, and the fact we haven’t seen much of the day to day of life at UA. Fairly All Might focused- as he’s my fave but again I would want to include more of the staff. (Aizawa, Midnight, Mic, Vlad and so on.)

Timeline wise it’s placed post All Might’s retirement (and Dorms existing) but kinda pauses in the canon after that?? (Major events, specifically the war stuff going on it the manga?)

I’d likely have to introduce some ocs (that would largely be off screen). Might introduce them anyways- as they’re a huge part of my daydreaming stories outside of fanfic. My superhero-verse ocs have been beloved to me since before BNHA.

Dragon Ball: After some Saiyan shenanigans, you end up dating both Goku + ChiChi AND Vegeta + Bulma. (The couples stay separate, this isn’t a 5some situation.) Vaugely set in “Super”.

The main set up for the plot is: As part time tutor for Goten, you end up staying the night with the Sons (even if Goten is away said night) and you end up sleeping with Goku and ChiChi. During which, Goku ends up biting you- leaving a mark. Which means nothing to you in the end, except a tentative relationship with the couple.

Vegeta eventually finds out about this and is furious that Goku would do something like this- impulsively claim a secondary mate, not going through the proper process of doing so. Turns out this is a old Saiyan custom (from far before Freiza had reign of planet Vegeta), taking a secondary “mate” (I’ve called them ‘concubines’ but I don’t think that’s right?)- particularly a lower classed one.

It also wasn’t uncommon for rival Saiyans to fight over the same secondary mate (as prideful Saiyans would never go after someone’s husband/wife.) Thus, you jokingly offer for Vegeta to go through the “ritual” of becoming a secondary mate- with Bulma and him.

This concept might not really make any sense, I guess. But…. Fanfic lmao.

I don’t know if I’m articulating these ideas well enough. Will I actually ever share these stories? Idk. But I wanted to put them out there. This isn’t everything I could say- but I’ll never post this if I keep going.

These aren’t my only stories but, these are more like the multi chaptered/ scenario stories I imagine. I have a Piccolo fic wip but that’s more of a one shot kinda in my head.

Oh also I usually write fem + chubby reader cause.. I’m that lmao.

Anyways, this is a small portion of the ideas about the dumb little stories I think about (and occasionally tippy tap into my phone.) I can talk more about them if anyone has any questions and stuff.

For the pass 2 weeks, I've been thinking about Goku, Krillin, Yamcha, Tien and Chaotzu in the Street Fighter universe. At first it was because of shipping dynamics, ( Imagine Yamcha x Juri Han, and I tried thinking of some ways for Krillin x Chun-Li) but the Z-Fighters would be around other actual martial artists! Like Tien fighting Gen is the main idea I've saw, but I need other mind to share this idea.😶 ( If you're familiar with the lore and characters of Street Fighter)

I may not know a whole lot about Street Fighter lore, but I know enough. But the Z Fighters would have to be nerfed. Instead of Yamcha being able to casually blow up a planet, he'd to be stronger than Bora who is stronger than Mr. Satan. And Goku would be of similar strength to Ryu.

Well for 1... We had the same idea about Yamcha x Juri 😂 (it would be an interesting dynamic.)

Yamcha would probably remain a bandit for the most part, but becomes a good guy. He'd wander the globe in a similar way that Ryu does. His interraction with Juri would be her toying with him while he tries to keep his cool. So a crazy lady with a reformed bandit. Always at odd but they save each other whenever the other is in danger. Maybe it kinda resembles a Batman/Catwoman kind of relationship.

And I think Tenshinhan fighting Gen is cool since both are former assassins. Maybe gave Gen help Tien leave the path of the assasin or they are simply 2 former assassins meeting in combat. Tenshinhan vs Sagat would be something cool to see too. And Chaozu could be kinda a zombie character since he's based off of Jiangshi. Maybe his life force is mystically tied to Tien through a special item. (Gameplay wise, this would make Chaozu part of Tenshinhan's moveset.)

Chun-Li and Chi-Chi knowing each other would be neat. A sisterhood bond between the two. Coupd even say Ox Ming was old friends with Chun-Li's father many years ago. (But having all these characters somehow know each other could seem contrived if done wrong.) I also feel like Videl and Karen would be rivals, while Videl & Sakura would be friends. Not sure how Bulma would fit into it besides being the rich friend. She'd be Karen but without the combat.

As for Krillin x Chun-Li? That could happen. They date for a while but later the relationship ends once Chun-Li leaves Interpol. And then there could be the story about Gero being the scientist for M. Bison & creates the Dolls. So Krillin, Cammy, and others help free some of the dolls which include 17 & 18.

I also think it would be cool if Roshi and Oro are old friends. And maybe Gouken was once friends with Grampa Gohan. And Gouken's students were friendly rivals against Roshi's students. Ryu & Ken vs Goku & Krillin, trying to see which school has better techniques. Ryu & Goku would both have the Satsui no Hado ( to try to control. Ken & Krillin would have the Kyoi no Hado ("Surge of Mindless Intent")/ Mu no Ken ("Fist of Nothingness") before Ryu & Goku, but Ken & Krillin's mastery of it would be less after Ryu & Goku master the Satsui no Hado/ Mu no Ken. Which fits well with Goku's name meaning "Awaken to Nothingness." It can resemble Ultra Instinct. Which Krillin's Non-Self State is essentially a lower level of power similar to UI.

Vegeta would have been succumbed by the power of the Satsui no Hado like Akkuma.

As for how other DBZ villains would fit in this? Maybe Freeza & Cell are experiments? Freeza was an ancient experiment that was once a ruler and recently awoken from a slumber? Maybe Cell is a recent creation of Gero & M. Bison that strictly follows orders? And Majin Buu is a stolen copy of Twelve that was altered by magic?

Not sure how to incorporate alien characters into SF. But someone like Piccolo could be a human who's body altered due to a special environment he grew up in. And since his clothing is Indonesian inspired, he could train under Dhalsim to explain why he has stretchy limbs. Then he went rogue then came back to his senses.

Kinda went more into it than I intended. 😅 I just like the idea of certain crossovers a lot.

But the coolest thing is that with the upcoming SF6, we can create DB characters if we want to! The character customization in that game looks amazingly in depth!

Also, DB x MK is a fun concept to me too. I've even done some fan art a few years ago.

If Goku and Adell Swapped Places (Adell's Side: Part 2)

((Hee ho dood! Prinnyfrost here reporting for duty! Yup, it's finally time to bring in part 2 of Adell's side of this scenario. If you're not caught up then just find part 1 before you continue to read this as well as the updates I've made a few days ago as well as how Goku would fair in Adell's shoes. Before we begin the events of Z, we do need to go over a few things that occurred after Adell defeats King Piccolo.

First, as you guys have voted, Yamcha and Launch get married as does Adell and Shoumei, but they all won't be living under the same roof. They would all be living in their own separate homes while occasionally visiting each other from time to time, as well as Shura and Selion who are still staying with Grandpa Gohan at his place as he's still alive at this point. Yamcha would still go into baseball, but would also have his own type of "Sly Cooper" persona at some point considering how Launch would be attracted to his bandit ways. Blonde launch and even Shoumei would join him at times, though Adell would often scold them every time he finds out.

Speaking of Adell, while he does continue to train, mainly with his parents and wife as they're they only ones strong enough to keep him in shape, he doesn't really do as much as Goku as he would also plan on spending some more...casual time with the family, including dates with Shoumei. As I said earlier, he does end up moving away from his parents and adoptive grandfather for 2 reasons. 1, to get some private time (if you catch my drift) and 2, and most importantly, he's pretty bad when it comes to farm work, so it's not like he's going to be much help around the house anyway. And if you're wondering why he's bad at farm work despite being raised with Grandpa Gohan and studied under Roshi, remember that he lived with 2 farmers his whole life in Disgaea 2 and that didn't stop him from being trash at it. Unlike Goku, he doesn't need Shoumei to tell him to get a job. In fact, Shoumei's the one probably telling him to relax as she can easily acquire some funds in her own way. Even if she wasn't talking about theft, that didn't sit well with Adell as he wants to help provide, so he decides to use his talents and get money from winning tournaments for a while until he eventually lands an actual career due to his popularity from all the wins he got...acting.

Why acting? Well the biggest reason for this is the fact that Winter Adell in the Makai Wars mobile game as a special skill which involves Adell beating up a group of enemies in an old western styled movie scene. Him having to deal with Axel in Disgaea 2 would also help to some degree. In fact, I imagine a certain Hercule would constantly try to upstage him, both in the theater and in the ring. I also made Adell an actor because this would help keep him balanced as he would only work when it's time to make a movie and spend his free time either being with his family, training, or both. In fact, he would blatantly refuse to do autograph signings unless if Shoumei is present with him, because he knows how some fan girls get, and she does manage to stop them to some degree as some would either run or find out the hard way by being pinned down and/or robbed. I say some because let's be honest, that's not going to stop all the bi or pansexual fans. In some cases, it only makes it worse.

And yes, Adell and Shoumei do end up having a kid together. For now, I'm going to keep the name "Gohan" for him because I don't want to keep delaying this part trying to think of a new name.

Now we finally get to the events of Z where Shoumei brings her son to meet his friends in person and potentially catch up with each other. Adell unfortunately, could not make it as he's in the middle of film the final scene for a new movie and they need the cash. Unlike the original though, everyone already knew about Gohan's existence beforehand, mainly because it's been leaked by journalists.

Meanwhile, a spaceship descends onto earth miles away, onto a farmer's crops. A whole squad runs out of the ship and start to look around, chatting with each other about the landscape, agreeing that this is the perfect spot. The farmer shouts at them and points his gun at them, prompting the...humanistic figure among them to walk forward, telling the others to stay back and watch. Feeling scared the farmer shoots and instantly kills him! Roll credits!

Nah, I'm messing around. Memes aside, this is the exact same result as when he tried to shoot Radtiz in the original story. Then they take advantage of the farmer's field in order to plant something. Something that starts to grow very big, very fast. This catches the attention of Piccolo, who rushes over there to investigate. He finds a tree and the group standing in front of the tree.

Yeah, I'm certain you guys have already figured this out, but in case if you haven't, I'm replacing the saiyan saga with the Crusher Corps saga.

This means no Raditz, Nappa, or Vegeta in this story. You'll see why later on. Now Piccolo asks them what's going on with the tree as he can feel plenty of power coming from it as well as the energy slowly fading away from his surroundings (A. K. A the plants and animals).

Amond: "Well as you can see, a kind human farmer has allowed us to...borrow his field to grow our own stuff. After all, it's dangerous for this rare fruit to be planted just anywhere."

Diaz: "He's right. Who knows what thieves and savage beasts would try to take off our hard work?"

Piccolo: "Considering the height of the fruit on that tree as well as how the animals are starting to get weaker all of a sudden, this is hardly a likely story."

Rasin: "Oh well, can't say we didn't try."

Lakasei: "Time for green man to kiss himself goodbye!"

All five members of the corp start to jump Piccolo and while he's holding his own for a bit, he quickly begins to struggle. Shoumei, Roshi, Krillin, Tien, and Yamcha start to sense their fight as well as energy being suspiciously taken away from the planet. They figure their best bet would be to investigate. Not wanting him in harms way, Shoumei tells Gohan to stick with Bulma and Launch and inform Adell as she takes Krillin, Tien, and Yamcha to look into the situation. They just barely manage to make it in time as the Crusher Corp were about to fire a team ki attack at a now very wounded Piccolo, only stopping when their scouters pick up that they were getting close.

Krillin: "Wait, were they about to kill Piccolo? Uh, are we sure these are the bad guys?"

Tien: "Well to be fair, if he dies then we won't have dragonballs anymore so..."

Yamcha: "You sure? I think I recall Mr. Popo talking about some sort of hidden stash of them."

Shoumei: "You sure you want to risk trying to nab those? We're thieves but that sounds like a death se-"

Piccolo: "WOULD YOU GUYS JUST SHUT UP AND FOCUS ALREADY?! THEY'RE TRYING TO ASSIMILATE THE PLANET!!!"

The group split up into one on one fights with Tien and Chaotzu fighting the twins, Yamcha facing Cacao like in the original, Krillin takes on Diaz, and Shoumei fights Amond. Before they fight, Amond realizes something after he takes a closer look at Shoumei.

Amond: "Hey, I thought you looked familiar. Didn't think I would meet another saiyan in this neck of the woods."

Shoumei: "Saiyan? What are you talking about?"

Amond: "I'm talking about you, toots. After your planet blew up, I thought the boss man, Mighty Turles was the only one left. Wait 'til he hears about dis!"

Shoumei: "Another planet? Wait..." Recalls when she first met Yamcha years ago, including the pod he eventually sold for scraps. Then the times she turned into her great ape form. "You mean this whole time...I'm an alien?"

Instead of answering, Amond uses the chance to catch Shoumei off guard and gives her a nasty punch in the gut and kicks her, sending her flying into the tree. Amond was about to walk back up to her until a familiar face flies toward him.

Amond: "Ah, Mighty Turles! What brings out of the ship?"

Turles: "I simply came to check on the status of the tree."

Amond: "It shouldn't be too long now before the fruit is done at this rate, but you'll never believe what we also found!" Points at the tree stump. "Check it out for yourself. It's another saiyan!"

Turles: "A saiyan you say? That does sound rather promising."

Turles goes up to the stump and the moment he sees Shoumei, his eyes widen and he starts to laugh.

Turles: "AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! This has got to be the biggest surprise I've seen in a VERY long time. Not only did another saiyan escape our planet's destruction, but it just so happen to be this rather peculiar one as well!"

Shoumei: "What the hell are you talking about, scumbag?"

Turles: "Now now, that's no way to talk to your older brother, now is it?"

Shoumei: "My...what?"

Turles: "Hmm...it seems we have a lot of catching up to do, don't we...Brassi?"

Sonic the Oz-Hog Act 3/12: Maximum Khanage!

No self-deprecating musings or long-winded prologues this month. There's quite a bit to cover, so let's just dive into round three of this rodent-related rabbling retrospect.

Much can change in the space of three years. Australia had come far since the release of January 1998's Sonic Firsts, and unfortunately not all of it positive. After half a decade of insistently proclaiming the policy was dead, then-Fearless Leader John Howard pulled a spectacular electoral backflip and, by the skin of its teeth, legislated the GST. From 1st July 2000, goods and services across the land were hit with a 10% price hike. The policy was marketed to voters as a means of easing tax collection by procuring money during production, as opposed to a US-style system of adding percentages at checkout. It didn't quite work out smoothly as they hoped, and the policy remains as decisive today as it was over 20 years ago.

Barely any products were spared from the increase, including publications produced locally and imported. MAD Magazine took the government to task with their infamous "GST Free" issue 377, jumping from $3.95 (cheap!) to $4.35 (not so cheap!). Comic books equally suffered; X-Men might've stopped Onslaught, but they couldn't stop the rise from $4.25 to $4.68, and for anyone not quick enough to buy issue 84 immediately, Sonic the Hedgehog spun up $4.50 to hover around the $5 mark before eventually settling at $4.95. A far cry from the glory days of 1993's piggy bank busting $2.25.

From a cynical standpoint, the GST's timely implementation felt like an attempt to monopolize on the impending tourist trade. Within two months, Australia would take global limelight with the Sydney Olympic Games, or as the late Juan Antonio Samaranch infamously declared "Syddernee!". Thousands travelled from overseas to watch the two week event, while millions tuned into Channel Seven to cheer on our teams bringing home 58 medals, an unprecedented tally which remains unbeaten to this day. Unfortunately the government's price hike failed to aid the flailing SEGA World Sydney, which closed its doors one final time a month after the closing ceremony.

Beyond a hectic few days in South Australia, the 2000-01 summer bushfire season was...n't that bad. A very surprising and much-needed reprieve before the catastrophic events come year's end. Eminem and Dido's collaboration Stan was just about to knock LeAnn Rimes off musical pole position. Steven Soderbergh's Traffic usurped Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe's thrilling Proof of Life as the countries number one film, but only one week before losing to the month-long reign of Miss Congeniality. DVD's and Wi-Fi were still foreign objects, thus Hollow Man was Video Ezy's top VHS release.

When it came to media domination however, a new king stood proud. Having won hearts and wallets throughout 1999, former children's champion Pikachu and pals were overthrown by the arrival of Goku and his crew. Initially launched on 31st January 2000, it wouldn't be until a heavy promotional push come July that Aussies fell head over heels into the world of Dragon Ball Z.

By 9th March 2001, the series was unstoppable; toys, magazines, bedspreads, videotapes, cards, Crazy Bones and virtually everything in between. Dragon Ball Z came, saw and conquered, and on that particular day, Aussies tuned into Cheez TV at 8am to lap up the premiere of Last Ditch Effort. Having suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Androids 17 and 18, the Z Warriors are left arguing among themselves as Piccolo sets out to make a life-changing decision. Meanwhile there's little Chi-Chi and Yamcha can do to assist the ailing Goku, having been struck down by the insidious Heart Virus. A situation only compounded with the ruthless Androids slowly closing in on their hideout.

It's a level of public praise Archie Comics could only envy.

The comic industry had been reeling for years. Sales were down all over the board, distributors barely getting books to shelves, and smaller retail chains dropping titles left and right. Archie had a solid track record, but columnists predicted the company would be lucky to reach 2006, sooner depending on how the Dan DeCarlo litigations went. Money was tight, and had it not been for the injection of revenue and public interest from the live-action Sabrina the Teenage Witch, even their top-selling speeder came perilously close to cancellation.

In an attempt to keep Sonic alive, editor Justin Gabrie was given the unenviable order of trimming the fat, which in true comic book fashion meant abruptly dropping all their freelancers. For several months no new stories were purchased, instead running whatever material was left on file. Unfortunately most of said freelancers had moved on by the time Archie's embargo was lifted, resulting in a 'skeleton crew' of two writers, two artists and two inkers. It didn't last, as by 2001, one artist had departed for the House of Mouse and the other publicly fired.

Issue 92's double billing of The Wrath of Khan and Sonic Shuffle: Premonition perfectly encapsulated the turbulent turmoil behind closed doors. With nobody available to draw the main story, Marvel stalwart Michael Higgins was rushed in. What should've been a happy reunion with former co-conspirator Karl Bollers was anything but, as he was given only the script and several back issues for reference. The finished product proved hardly his finest work, being unfamiliar with the franchise he resorted to tracing panels from said back issues just to meet the incredibly tight deadline. All while SEGA demanded at the last minute 8 pages be dedicated to promoting their latest game.

For all Archie's efforts getting the book out on time and into fan hands, said audience were furious once it arrived. Already incited after an impromptu interview with artist James Fry revealed newcomer Mina Mongoose was set up as Sonic's new love interest, they let it be known under no uncertain terms that 2001's first offering was a sign of the apocalypse. "Cancelled!" they hollered, with "If it makes it into next year, I'll be very impressed" and "They bury themselves in plot holes, and the artists try WAY too hard to make it look more of an anime instead of a comic book" between bitter breaths. Karl Bollers and James Fry were routinely harassed on Usenet and AIM for doing their jobs, and after spending years as everyone's favourite punching bag, Nate Morgan was temporarily sidelined to make space for Mina.

The sheer vitriol aimed towards the teen mongoose was staggering. Pointless for a comic book character, but staggering. Her design was ridiculed, her name (rumoured to be a Sailor Venus homage at the time) gutted, her super speed lauded, and her connection to Sonic (feeble as it was) lambasted. Fans labelled her as "pure fan character crap there to drive the nail into SatAM's coffin". Witnessing hate spiels on message boards became par the course, while enterprising fans littered Sonic HQ and teamARTAIL with art of Mina scribbled or outright slaughtered.

It's ironic. 2001 kicked off with fans jumping online to complain about the comic's writing, Geoffrey St. John being an underhanded jerk, and Mina Mongoose' existence heavily resented. The more things change.

A pity life turned out the way they did. Somewhere is an alternate universe where Archie Sonic was never rebooted, a universe where I can only begin to imagine what Mina did to cheese off readers in early 2021.

Next Time: The mayhem continues in April with the revisitation of a spinoff comic equally popular as it was polarising. Until then, have a reconstruction of March 2001's personal survival kit. Life was fairly turbulent back then, but certainly could've been far worse compared to travesties going on in the world then and as now. Never forget to be grateful for what we already have and give even a minute of our times for those without. Even just lending an ear to someone worse off can make all the difference.

Even the title is stunning. I mean... the gang is back! The original Dragon Ball isn't dead. But now look at him... In truth, he never stopped getting excited about fighting. Here he's the only one who seems purely motivated. A little reckless, but still cute. That's our good ol' Yamcha.

...how dare you, fools?! I mean, he's one of the very first Earth Heroes! No kidding!

Let him prove it.

Agent Yamcha? Well... It sounds really good. Finally someone who respects his role in this story! I mean... He was Lord Yamcha, the fearsome bandit of the Diablo Desert, one of the best students of Master Roshi, then King Kai, a memorable fighter of the Tenkaichi Tournaments, a loyal friend, a human who has crossed his own nature! I guess "agent Yamcha" is just the minimum... But we make do!

Well well well... Welcome back, Yamcha! You really seem to have remembered who you really are and you can be! You're let it get you down too many times for no reason and this has been your greatest weakness. The only one.

Take your revenge!

This is really touching. He never denied his most famous technique... The one and only Rōgafūfūken! Just look at his fingers put like a wolf fang. I can hear his unmistakable howl!

After all, generally he never denied himself. And his long hair too. I'm so glad they've come back. This is a really important point about his personality. Bulma tried to fix him in many things... Sometimes she has helped him, but other times she has only damaged him. I think Yamcha is slowly retracing his steps to create a better version of himself. Not just a parody.

Oh please... It had been a long time since I had seen him so proud of himself. Look at that cocky pose! Damn, how cute...

Got a real taste. He just realized he can still help and now no one can stop him. Well, sort of. The rest of the chapter doesn't show anything relevant about him. Except for a small part.

We can see Yamcha, but also Tenshinhan, Kurillin and even Chiaotzu, helping Goku with their energy. Like the old days. It's amazing they included them.

Okay, this one hurts a little. It's comforting that Toriyama didn't forget this detail... Yamcha's only wish has always been to get married. Since 1985, when he first appeared. Considering that this line dates back to 2020... It's been a long time, hasn't it? Back then he was a shy 16-year-old boy with many expextations for his future... Now he's a man, he lost so much, but his need for love never changed. So... Does he really have to ask Shenron as he wanted to do so many years ago?! Or worse, wait 1200 years...

Come on, Akira! He doesn't need the dragon balls!

Give him his real chance.

Guys... I would say that all of this is an incredible goal for Yamcha's fans.

He still exists.

He can still make a difference, even a tiny one.

He still can!

Hi Sarah,  Please tell us a little bit about yourself. My name is Sarah Golden. I publish under SK Golden. I have been married for sixteen years to a commercial fisherman. We live in the Florida Keys with our five children. We have one son, our oldest, and the rest are girls, including our youngest, identical twin girls. We have two black cats, named Lady and Lion (I was going through a bit of a Game of Thrones thing when we adopted them) and one corgi named Goku (I am still going through a Dragon Ball thing now). What are three things most people don’t know about you? I am a descendant of Eric the Red. At least, according to my great uncle who got really into researching family lineage stuff. I’m a big fan of Bath and Body Works candles. Like, I am a member of the Bath and Body Works reddit. I desperately wish I was a musician. I tried over the years to learn how to play piano and the bass but, it just never took. My little brother got all those musical genes. Good news is that my two oldest kids are in their school band and are both quite good! What books/authors have most inspired you? There’s so many! Agatha Christie, of course. Rhys Bowen. Douglas Adams. Jane Austen. Donald Westlake. And how could I forget: Eloise at the Plaza. I loved that children’s book so much I wrote Evelyn at the Pinnacle, we just call it The Socialite’s Guide to Murder.

What kind of research do you do, and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book? I’m a big fan of Newspapers.com. It costs money, but it’s so worth it. You can really get a feel for whatever specific region you’re researching during whatever specific time period by reading what they were printing in their papers. I do a lot of research online. Etymonline.comis a great resource for making sure modern phrases don’t sneak into historical books, though, sometimes they do get past me. I’ve read memoirs written by people who lived through the 50s and collect books that are all about the 1950s. What’s great about writing about the 50s is there are movies filmed and set in that time period, so, I classify watching How To Marry A Millionaire as research. And people post old videos of New York street corners onto YouTube as well. I tend to start writing pretty quickly once coming up with the murder/murderer and will research as needed and fact check as I go and again once I’m finished. I am on the third book set in 1950s New York, so, I’ve already got a lot of information in my head. Well. Some of it stays in my head. The rest of it is scribbled in notebooks somewhere. Do you ever suffer from Writer’s Block? Oh, yes. Sometimes this is just me being tired and needing a day or two off. Most of the time this means that something is wrong. I’m trying to get a character to behave in a way that is out of character for them to simply move the plot along, and until I fix it, I’ll experience writer’s block.

What advice do you have for someone who would like to become a published writer? Keep writing! Read widely. Don’t give up. Take breaks if needed, and those breaks can last for a few months, but keep writing. All you need is one yes to get the ball rolling. When you are not writing what do you like to do? Well, read. I like to bake. Specifically, cookies. I hang out with my kids. I like to get dressed up and go out on dates with my husband. I visit with friends. I take my dog on walks. I spend a lot of time with my dog. He’s great. If you could travel anywhere in the world where would you go and why? New Zealand! I want to visit Hobbiton! What is next on the horizon for you? Marriage. 20

Chapter 20: Cake

After we kissed, which felt like forever, we finally made our way to try out some cakes. “Goku?” He looked at me. “I don’t think I ever asked you. Even though I want, but do you want kids?”

“I wouldn’t mind, since I’ll be making them with you.” I felt a blush rising. “I’m glad we had that talk.”

“Me too!” As we continued walking, I couldn’t contain my excitement. “I want a big family!”

“What you mean by that?” Hu? Oh.

“Well a family that you and me will be mommy and daddy to our many children.” He looked pleased with that answer. How many kids do you want? “Maybe 4, or 5. But I’ll be happy with a small family too. I would be happy with any number of kids you give me.” He smiled at that. “Just to be able to have your children will make me happy.” Whatever makes you happy, makes me happy too. I just couldn’t stop smiling from that. “Oh, should we invite your friends to the wedding?”

“I don’t know.”

“When we choose a date, will you tell me before then?”

“Why just not invite them at all.”

“But Goku. A wedding is not only for the couple becoming one. It’s also a special day where family and friends of the couple to celebrate the new start of the couple.” He looked deep in thought on that one. “Let’s invite them anyway.” No. “Why? There’s always a chance you’ll regret it one day. Plus, I don’t think I got properly introduce to your friends, at the tournament.” I looked down as I said that.

“You got a point. But no.” Ok. Is there something about his friends that he just doesn’t want to invite them. He doesn’t seem to be wanting to talk about it.

Then, we finally made it to the dining hall. “Cake time.”

The rest of the day was interesting. After that talk with Chichi, I’m not embarrassed about most of my reactions to her. But when she asked what thoughts I had of her, that got a reaction out of me, I tell her I don’t know. Just to see her get puffy, and try to hit me. Then there was the cake tasting, which wasn’t bad. Except for those few that were just awful. What were they call again? Champagne, ginger spice, and carrot. Chichi laughed at me when I tasted that one.

But now Chichi had me thinking about how she wanted to invite my friends, to our wedding. I was between nervous, and happy that she wanted to include them. But do I want them there? We was currently on our way to my room, since I had more space to practice our wedding dance. So much dancing. I wish these things were simple. But it made her happy, so I don’t mind much. The moment my door closed something was different.

It wasn’t the smell of the room, or even us. It just felt different. “Chichi don’t sit yet.” I walked to the center of the room and took my surroundings in. Why does it feel different? Then my eyes landed on Chichi, and her face was pink. What are you thinking?

“Not telling.” If that’s how she wants to play it. I picked her up, and lightly tossed her in the air. She was giggling. “I’m still not going to tell.” I finally set her down on feet, then I started tickling her. “You’re not getting a pep out of me!” She laughed so hard that she was tearing up. If she wants to play hard, then time for a change of strategy. I let her go and walked away. “And where you think you’re going?”

“To your room.”

“Hey! No! You can’t!”

My interested was peaked. “Why not?”

“It’s a surprise. So, you just can’t.”

“Now I’m definitely going.” She jumped on my back, trying to slow me down. It had no effect. She then bit my ear. That got me to stop, for a moment. I continued walking to her room. She finally got off. Then she started to giggle. “Wait a minute. You knew I would go to your room.”

“Shut up and go in already.” Um, actually before I did that I should see if I sense anything on the other side. “No, you don’t! That’s cheating!”

“Fine.” I opened the door, and what I saw made me look back at Chichi confused. “Is that the real one?”

“No, sadly. But I thought when you suggested Lisa about a picture of her father, that you would like something similar.” She was doing that cute thing where her hands were at her back, and she sway back and forth.

“Thank you. It’s perfect. Now get over here.”

“Why?” She walked over to me, and I landed a kiss on those sweet lips. When we parted, she was breathless. Good. “Jerk.” Hey! I’ll do it again.

The day finally came. Our wedding. I still don’t get why Goku didn’t invite his friends, but one day we’ll show them all the pictures. I was so excited and so nervous. What would Goku think of my dress? Thinking about Goku made me giggle at his reaction, when I told him for the next two days I’ll be sleeping in a different room. He gave me a horror look, until I explain the reason. Then before I left to my location, he kissed me deeply and told me he can’t wait to see me again.

My cheeks are now burning. Oh my. Oh my what? Goku! You can’t do that either! Now stop that! Silence, good. He’s really impatient, is he? Once the tailor entered, we starting on my dress. It was too perfect. The heart bust accent my breast wonderful, and the way it tightly formed to my waist added a nice touch. I hope Goku likes it. I then started blushing again. “Can you try to stop blushing while I do your makeup.” Me and the makeup artist laughed. After that, my hair was pulled into an elegant bun, with curls framing my face. I felt absolutely beautiful. It’s time. And this day we have the great fortune *giggle* of having Fortuneteller Baba to unite us.

Today is finally the day. I was feeling unusually nervous. I don’t understand why. “Dude, stop pacing. You’re making me dizzy.” Eric was in the room with me, as we got ready to begin. “Are you just too excited for you to finally see Chichi, after being told you couldn’t for you till today? Are you just can’t wait to open her like a present?” He was laughing as I stopped pacing, and asked what he meant. “You really don’t get suggestive phrases?” I shock my head. “Ok, it’s suggestive way of saying, you can’t wait to get her naked.” Oh. … OH! “That blush tells me you got that.” Blush? “Oh, it’s when your face turns red, or pink. Usually due to embarrassment, or other list of reasons.” So, wait. That means I make Chichi blush a lot. Cool. I wonder how I do that; I like it when she blushes. “What are you think?”

“Shut up.” My face felt on fire. Wait! Does this is how I could tell I’m blushing? The fact Eric is laughing and my face is burning more. So yup, I’m blushing. Just then we heard a knock at the door. It was one of the guards; he was letting us know we could start heading to the location. Once we got there, I saw Baba. “How’s it going Baba?”

“Not bad, Goku. And good to see you in something that’s not a fighting gi.” We both chuckled. “Now relax, we’re starting soon.”

I tried to relax, but I couldn’t stop my heart from racing. And the moment I saw Chichi walking out the castle, everything seem to go slow motion. A pain to my side brought me back to reality. Look to see Eric standing next to me. “Close your mouth. You’re drooling.” He snickered as I clearly whipped my mouth. I just couldn’t keep my eyes off her. She looked stuffy, but comfortable. I didn’t get why she had to have that thing on her head, but I was told that I shouldn’t question things during the wedding. To keep all question till the end, if I remembered.

Now the moment we practiced. Bow before Ox King, then place Chichi arm in mine, and we face Baba for the vows. She told us to look at each other, even thought Chichi face was still covered. As we placed the rings on each other’s fingers we say our part of the vows. I was so thankful Baba helped me remember along the way.

“I, Goku, love and cherish you, secure in the knowledge that you are my best friend, my dearest, my kind and adoring wife. And to always protect you from harm, to stand with you against your troubles. To death do we part.”

Even though I could barely see her face, I could tell she was tearing up.

The moment dad started walking down the aisle I spotted my Goku. It look stunned, and the closer I got I saw him whipping his mouth. Was he drooling? I couldn’t to blush at that. Then when I heard him say his vows, I couldn’t help get a little emotional. I’m so glad Eric helped him pick that out. Now it was my turn.

“I, Chichi, am proud to be your loving wife, ecstatic to discover what is next in our lives, and thrilled that our every day will be together on this adventure. And marrying you is truly my every desire fulfilled. To death do we part.”

Then he gave me that smile, that made me weak to my knees. The one where his teeth shined like a million stars. My heart swelled up knowing it’s about to be complete. “In the power vested in me, I now pronounce you as husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.” Oh my, this is finally happening. I couldn’t stop biting the inside of my lip, and from what little I can see, he was biting his lip too. The moment he lifted the veil and our lips touched I felt complete.

“You may kiss the bride.” The moment Baba said that I felt something deep in my soul awoken. I had to try to remember that I have to be gentle with this thing, or else I’ll rip it and she’ll be mad. I bit my lip, trying to control the urge to just kiss her already. But when our lips finally met, I felt an overwhelming sense of being… Complete.

The rest of the event came and went like a blur. But my two favorite parts, that wasn’t food, was the dance with Chichi and finally being able to leave. Tonight, will be our official first night in our new home, and the beginning of our new life. When Chichi first told me that, I didn’t understand. Now that the moment is here, I get why she was so happy. As we got ready to leave, Chichi said her farewell to her father, and I called out for nimbus. Once we took off, I couldn’t help but smile down at my wife.

The reception was pretty funny. Well for starters, the dance with Goku was just perfect. And his expression when he saw the cake was too much. I still can’t believe they were able to make the figures how I pictured it. Me and Goku holding the dragon ball, the item that brought us together. It was also funny to see his face when I licked icing off his finger. But it did become somewhat sad at the end. Cause I was now coming to the sinking realization I was living the home I always knew. But the moment Goku had me in his arms, and got on nimbus, the happy feeling came back.

I am leaving my childhood home behind, but I’m going forward to my forever home, with my husband. That thought just excites me. As we flew, I couldn’t help but notice, every time Goku looked at me, he would blush. “Why are you blushing?”

“Cause of you.”

“What about me?”

“Cause you’re you.” Now I was the one blushing. As we continued flying the sun was setting.

“The sunset looks beautiful from here.”

“Now as beautiful as you.” I felt my heart jump on that one, and my face burning up. He called my beautiful! Since the first time he called my cute, he just wouldn’t stop. Even when I was mad, he called me cute. But now it’s the first time he called me beautiful. I felt like I was on a cloud. Oh wait. I am on a cloud. I started laughing at that one.

The moment we landed in front of our new home, I became overwhelmed, and not for the obvious reason. Goku was about to put me down when I told him not to. He asked why, and I told him how it’s tradition that the husband carried the wife into their new home. He asked why again. “I guess it’s like you’re carrying me into our new lives or something.” He smiled at that, and carried me inside.

The August issue of V Jump featured screenshot and promotional art that revealed that the game's story mode would include the tournament story arc and the characters Krillin and Launch. The July issue of V Jump featured screenshots of the game's various menus, maps, and the Dragon Radar. The issue also confirmed the official Japanese release for September 18. The June issue of V Jump added more screenshots demonstrating the stylus' use in performing various melee combat techniques with hand-to-hand or with the use of the Power pole. It also showed that Bulma would be involved in the gameplay in some form. Some of the screenshots demonstrated the stylus' capabilities in combat and the convenience of the dual screen gap such as censoring Bulma's genitals when she flashes Master Roshi for a Dragon Ball. It revealed that the game would be a platformer, and it would focus on, at least, the Pilaf story arc. The game was first announced in the May 2008 issue of V Jump magazine, which listed a release date sometime later that year. However this did not prevent the game from being rerated in Australia. The dual screen gap was used to censor Bulma's exposing scene in the game. Players can also trade figures with other players via wireless multi-card play. Each figure comes with its own animation that can be viewed in the "Animation Figure screen". They can be either found in random places in each episode installment or purchased in the store. These figures are eventually the avatars of all characters within the game.
