Vermouth is ambidextrous theory.

The scene where Vermouth shoots the ga.so.line tank with her left hand has been bothering me for years and it might very well be a plot hole with no significant hidden meaning. But on the off chance it is not, let’s entertain some theories. (Also, shooting a gasoline tank with normal bullets doesn’t make it explode - tested by MythBusters episode 15 & 38). I will mainly use the Head to Head with the Black Organization Arc (chapters 429-434 or episode 345) as references.

First and most popular theory: Vermouth is ambidextrous.

Ambidextrous people are those who use both their left and right hand equally well. The keyword here is equally. In chapter 433 and 434 (and basically, every other chapter), Vermouth can be seen mainly using her right hand. A true ambidextrous person often switches between two hands spontaneously because it makes no difference which hand they use.

So Vermouth isn’t ambidextrous? Maybe. Only 1% of the world population is naturally born ambidextrous. However, most people who are considered to be ambidextrous were originally left handed. They learn to use their right hand later in life. It was common in the past for teachers to make left-handed students to change their dominant hands (I’ve personally witnessed this phenomenon).

Perhaps Vermouth was originally left handed, then she learned to use her right hand either because of external force or personal reason. Vermouth is a master of disguise and most of the world population is right handed. To perfect her disguise, she needs to use both hands equally well.

Which brings me to the next theory: Mixed handedness or cross domination.

While often confused with ambidextrous, mixed handed people are those who favor one hand for some certain tasks and the opposite hand for other things. For example, baseball players Rickey Henderson and Cleon Jones bat right and throw left. Perhaps, Vermouth favors her left hand for shooting seeing that she shoots better with her left hand.

In chapter 433, Jodie outshot Vermouth when Vermouth drew her gun with her right hand.

However, in chapter 434, Vermouth can hit a gas.so.line tank backward while aiming with a mirror. If it is not a convenient plot hole, Vermouth clearly shoots better using her left hand.

And the last theory: Vermouth is left handed.

Vermouth is born left-handed, but due to her work, she often has to disguise as a right handed person. As time passes, people who know she is left-handed dwindle to none. Then, she keeps up a charade that she is right handed to hide the fact she shoots better with her left hand. Imagine that she is in a perilous situation, she could catch her enemy by surprise using her left hand.

This is my personal headcanon which I will be applying to my fanfics. A little spoiler for those who read Vineyard and Gin–A cat’s life.

Of course, it is possible for Vermouth to be right handed and learns to use her left hand. But why would she shoot better with her left hand? Possible, but unlikely.

You have a point. I’m just saying if the was ever some “safe” for someone to know the current Kid is Kuroba Kaito that wasn’t already involved with the first Kid in someway it’s Sonoko especially after she befriended his everyday identity since she’s a very loyal friend. Kaito could trust her to keep his secret that is if Sonoko is even going to be looking for it since the mystery and him supposedly being older is a huge part of the appeal to her. So at first he’s more anxious until he figures this out and is a bit more relaxed.

Yeah! There are a lot of ways for this to go down, which is part of what makes dcmk characters so much fun!

I think this could have more to do with Kaito’s willingness to be genuine than it does with whether he can trust Sonoko or not. Sonoko’s a great friend, no matter what—she’s extremely loyal, like you said, and she cares very deeply for the people around her. I think whether or not she’s “safe” for him, or whether she even cares about digging up his identity, might have very little to do with how Kaito actually acts. There’s a lot more than just his own anxiety at play here—it’s also about his ultimate goals, what he was taught, the safety of his friends and mother, and the safety of Sonoko herself (after all, all Snake needs to do is realize that it’s not Kuroba Toichi he’s hunting, and all bets are off for the Kurobas and the people around them). Plus, there’s also the very concept of the “poker face” on its own, which is a whole other can of worms lol

Meanwhile, I think Sonoko has a lot going on with her life, too. With all the insanity that comes with being besties with Ran (and Shinichi), plus her own life and pressures, it’s no wonder that she needs a bit of a break to learn magic. She and Kaito are pretty similar in that regard—they both like grand gestures and big distractions. It’s an interesting similarity, because it’s something they can bond over, but it’s also rooted in avoidance, lol.

They’re both extremely stubborn characters, just as much as they’re also nerds for magic, and general mischief-causers. Lots of potential for cool characters dynamics !!

General Thoughts on Ship Wars (discord)

Before, I wanna to tell that : I am a very passionate shipper but I don't wish for any hurt to anyone especially to the ones that shipping characters that not my taste or my NOTP. I will simply avoiding those NOTP ships in any way of fanworks, because if I am stumbled upon those NOTP fanworks - I am afraid that I might unleash beast inside me that could hurt even by words - or for myself getting hurt to see character that I feel a nice, romantic couple to be with other character else. I've learned that fanworks world (fanfic: ff, ao3, etc)(fanart: twitter, devianart,etc)(shipping analysis: tumblr, reddit) should be a safe world for anyone to be happy - shipping characters of the series they'll like while letting others in part of the fandom to know the reasons to liking a ship. In short, I am respecting anyone to ships any characters to other BUT please don't push that ship especially by bashing other character by learning how the characters doing and how the relationships progress in the story.

Well, in the fanworks you could do anything you want like making character c looking bad especially highlighting the things they're did in certain aspect of the story, which to make character a and character b (or more if this a polyamory relationship) to be together. But honestly, could that cliché be avoided? For creative thinking that filled with honesty - kindness - and the forgiveness, so even the character c won't be together with either of character a or b - everyone involved are happy. Being happy doesn't always means for union of characters. being listened-understood-respected it's also part of happy spectrum too even if by making that happen means to letting go someone they love. That's not only limits to characters let go the one they'll love (because the love status is uncertain as it's platonically? becomes familiar love? etc) BUT also when the characters they're love are gone - be it for moving on to another part or phase of life, or for going to the afterlife. So, people in discord said a really good paragraph exclaim :

It's (refers to the ship wars) definitely not limited to coai (conan/ai), it happened in almost every fandom. But I think it basically boil down to a perfect storm of popular characters with a semi-canon ship status. Shinran (shinichi/ran) fans doesn't need to argue their ship into canon bcs they're already canon. Slash pairing (e.g. kaito/shinichi, heiji/shinichi) also doesn't tend to argue their ship bcs they know it won't happen. Meanwhile coai is very much a possibility (even if it is one-sided) so the fans gets loud in their support in hopes that Gosho (or other party related like Mai kuraki the singer for most of Detective Conan songs) will change the status-quo if coai (a pairing that have lots of ship teases - or the characters are so interesting together with their personalization) becomes more "popular".

I hate it when readers try to force their ideas on the author/creator - let them do their ideas and experiment and see if it works or not (which should be on fanworks world). Although in Gosho's case, I don't think there is reason to fear that but many webtoon creators are young and new to this all and inexperienced so they may bow to the immense pressure of the fans. -> there's many examples in the webtoons already as many unsatisfied readers have the webtoon ending with the ship that 'majority' didn't want like My Deepest Secret, Nice To Meet You!, Edith et cetera

Those webtoons also the example of the ones that didn't have any author note episode at the ending, in fear possibly if explaining why the character a not means to be with c, or technically there's no pairing become canon

Gosho is experienced indeed, BUT in the manga world making - editor is holding the key as basically try to make popular series going as long as possible ~ and if doing so fuelling ship wars by adding teases scenes especially towards triangle love, so be it. It sucks for both the author and readers actually, but it happens anyway. For the creator or author to can't write what they're actually want. For the reader of the intended pairing shipper as they are seeing the characters they're ships getting 'flirty' with other character that likely their NOTP. Or for the reader of the unintended ship as they're been fed by false hopes that their ships are means to be 'as canon'. I am also talking about constant ship wars at Oshi no Ko with Kana vs Akane btw, I love Kana more so I am mad if she's getting mocked espc by the Akane/Aqua shipper - but I also know that Akane - Aqua relationship is special in their own way even thou not that healthly.

I stopped reading Marionetta because the ship war too (the Sahed fans attacked the Tonny fans really hard) -> this the result of ship wars, this make fans to decides to stop enjoying the series for entirety which is very sad.. It's technically not the author's fault but as the fandom becomes toxic. Of how toxic and poisonous a fandom could be it's another nother to talk about and I won't talk it here.

The (ship, be it intended as well unintended) teasings happen in a lot of things: media, series, books, manga…to fuel the readers to become interested longer (thought only for the ship). It is a common thing nowadays and I don't like it at all.

-> A good story should telling what their own story properly, and shippings should be the spices not the main ingredients. So, a story should be a story based not ships based.

I disliking the ship wars as the pain, hurt, tiringness which could resulting to the fandom become toxic in intense war as pointing out why 'their ship is superior, and other ship is doomed'. This totally unhealthly, both for other part of the fandom espc your NOTP shippers AND YOURSELF as being constantly on edge to proving your ship. Why not taking steps back, letting out a long breath - and enjoys the ship that you like without hurting others happily? You, as the reader (or if the medium of series isn't visual, then watcher or anything else), is always part of the fandom that making up popularity of a certain series. If you are gone as getting tired or getting swept up by the toxicity of ship wars, didn't it hurt to the creator of your favorite series - or your friends at the fandom that you used to be like before ~ as realizing too late that you're gone?

P.S if curious:

As a shipper on multifandom, here characters that I ship on different series - which are heterosexual pairings, and well personally no hate towards LGBTQ+ just if them making NOTP I am simply disliking and avoiding the following pairings. No amount of others' arguments telling me about 'reasons your ship sucks' will ever change my opinions regarding my OTP, and I hope it's understable without seen as too hard headed - I won't bashing any characters that become part of my NOTP. I always respect anyone opinion, but I also hope that respect is a dual-interaction too so it'll become "I respect you, and please respect me too".

OTP stands for 'one true pairing' while NOTP stands for 'not one true pairing' which usually if the character a and character b that making up a pair (or more if polyamory) is paired up with other character else. So I am only limiting a pairing on each work series, but doesn't mean I didn't have more characters that I like to ship. The list of my OTP are the following with consist on various media indeed :

I always wonder if Amuro takes these things at face value or if he suspects Azusa might like him?

Like in this scene from Ep 942, it'd wouldn't be unusual if he thought she was going to ask him out, only for it to be about work scheduling lol Given how he guessed her reaction in the recent Kaito heist chapter, I personally think Amuro is convinced that nah, she's definitely not into him - which is extra funny since Azusa has similarly boxed herself into a corner of thinking someone like herself would never be dating Amuro. They've just gone ahead and convinced themselves of this, feeding into each other's assumptions by not considering any Maybes or What Ifs.

This is convenient for Amuro given his reasons for even being at Cafe Poirot, and for Azusa who fears backlash from Amuro's fans. It's comfortable, the way things are. But what's convenient and comfortable isn't always what's most fulfilling.

Oops, I turn this into an analysis thing. Anyways, Azusa is cute!!

Some thoughts about APTX...

In File.821, it is revealed that in the tape to Shiho for her eighteenth birthday, Elena said to her:

“The truth is, your mom is making a truly terrifying drug at the moment. My lab mates are getting really excited about it; they say it's like a dream drug. Your dad and I are putting all our hopes on it and calling it the Silver Bullet! But in order to complete the drug, your dad and I will have to leave you and your sister. Please understand, Shiho.”

—In order to complete the drug, your dad and I will have to leave you and your sister. Please understand.

She asks Shiho to “please understand” their departure in a tape that is meant for Shiho’s eighteenth birthday; she had planned all these recordings in advance and made them before her own death. These recordings are meant to cover the years of Shiho’s life until she reaches majority, from her first to her twentieth birthday—and all of them were recorded before Shiho was even a year old.

With that context in mind, the “leaving” she’s talking about sure sounds like the permanent kind, rather than, say, merely leaving them temporarily in someone else’s care to focus on their research. So Elena knew they were going to die. And according to her, the reason they have to die is to facilitate the creation and completion of Silver Bullet.

And if we accept that reading, then the next question becomes:

Why must the Miyanos “leave”—die—in order to “complete” the drug?

How fantastical might Aoyama go with this drug?

And this ties into a different question I’ve had for a long, long time, which is: why did the Organization spend so many years (and money and effort) into raising Shiho, putting her through the best education possible, shaping her into a prodigy, a child genius, all so that she can carry on her parent’s research? Why wait over ten years for Shiho? Why not just recruit a different scientist? No matter how wild or out-there Miyano’s ideas may have been, it’s unlikely that the Organization (especially with their deep pockets) can’t find even a single other scientist willing to carry on that research.

Additionally, Vermouth’s fervor in making sure Sherry is killed—not captured, killed—also raises questions. “If you want someone to hate for this, blame your parents who took over this foolish research,” she says to Haibara right before she’s about to shoot her. I know many people read this as a personal hatred she has against the older Miyanos and in turn Sherry for what they had created/were trying to create, but what if her goal is simply opposite to the Organization’s and the Boss’s, and not enmity directed specifically at individual persons? The Organization raised Sherry to continue the research; Vermouth wants Sherry dead so the research cannot continue. (She agrees to Conan’s demand during the Full Moon case that she give up on Sherry, in part because she sees how dedicated he is to fight the Organization and shield Sherry from it, and for a long time she does abide by that agreement, but then she tries to kill Sherry again during Mystery Train because Bourbon has found Sherry and aims to bring her back to the Organization. Vermouth’s preeminent goal has always seemed to be to prevent Sherry from returning to the Organization by any means necessary.)

And to be fair, all this may have just been, well, the product of the author having already decided on the character profile of “Haibara Ai” that he wants (genius teenage scientist, creator of APTX4869, the Irene Adler to Shinichi’s Holmes) and then just shaping her backstory around that decision. And Elena’s words in that tape may have just been lies and euphemisms to her daughter, cloaking the fact that she can sense that her death is near with allusions to a grander purpose. Parents all want to appear as best as possible in front of their children.

But if it’s not that, might there be some other reason? Again, just how fantastical might Aoyama go with this drug? Might there be some genetic component required here?

Might APTX4869’s effects have something to do with the Miyanos’ genes? Or rather, Sera family genes? Because why is it that, out of everyone who has supposedly been fed the drug (the APTX victim list that we keep seeing appears quite lengthy), only three people have been shown to the readers to have survived, two of whom (Mary and Haibara) we know for sure are closely related? (I think I once read someone saying that Aoyama said in an interview that Haibara and Conan aren’t related, but that’s so many layers of hearsay that I don’t know how much stock I should put in it until I see the print interview. I just know that one panel in Scarlet Return (File.897/Ep783)—where Conan talks about how Yukiko is “good at disguising herself as family” and then immediately thinks about how she also did a good job disguising him as Haibara that time—that panel still has me going eye emoji.)

Anyways, there are more questions than answers after all that, but it’s all so interesting to think about!!!

i Need to write something about dcmk because i just have so many thoughts and nothing i've read has done it for me but I do not know what. But I need to write Something

Hii :D Could I ask you about Shinichi for the character bingo? I love him but I honestly don’t know if people genuinely like him as a main character so I was wondering!

I WILL TALK ABOUT THIS BOY FOR HOURS IF YOU ASK ME TO BUT i know there's a limit so I'll make this as short as possible:D

All in all i genuinely like him. However, i do understand why people dislike him sometimes, now i wouldn't exactly call him cold hearted, but i know some people who have called him that, especially how he deals with muder cases sometimes.

(I'm not faulting him for not "feeling" anything, i guess it's more of a "it is what it is" situation for him. Aside for catching the culprit there's really nothing else he can do so why dwell on it)

I also realize that some people have called him having no empathy.

Well I can't exactly disagree with that. Most of the time he thinks with his head. Not his heart. Doesn't mean he can't be unkind, just that. When solving a murder case, he'd think mostly of "How did that person do it" and not "Why did the person do it".

(And really I understand cause duh there's no excuse for muder but this is merely an example)

BUT if ran were to be the detective here, she would feel absolutely heartbroken at the site before her, of the reasons why they did it, sometimes even feel justified i think.

Edit: no absolutely not. Ran will never agree to murder. She'd understand why they did it, but "that doesn't excuse murder Haninn-san!!"

(Which btw is one of the reason why I adore shinran because i just think they balance one another. One is the head and the other is the heart. Shinichi is sympathetic while Ran is Empathetic)

Also a little bonus but I was watching Holmes Revelation the other day, and i think this shows a bit more of that. While Ran was crying, all he cared about was the clue to the bombing case (well fair I suppose) but i guess on that current time, his head was telling him to "solve the case ASAP" so yeah.

WIP Challenge: Detective conan dub comparison? ouo

Oooh, I'm conflicted about this one...

Since I'm so super passionate about anime dubs, maybe predictably, one of the first Detective Conan projects I ever envisioned for myself was a comparison between the FUNimation English dub for the series and the newer Bang Zoom! Entertainment English dub.

Given that Bang Zoom! dubbed Episode One: The Great Detective Turned Small, which remakes episodes that FUNimation had already dubbed, I put together direct line comparisons for several characters. The video's all edited and subtitled and everything, but I'm waffling on actually going through with this project for a few reasons:

-The editing embarrasses me a bit. I mean it when I say that this was one of my first-ever DetCo projects; the video file is dated February 28, 2021 (and I only started posting Cone in March that year). My Harley Hartwell fancam—another super early project that took me about eight months to bring to fruition!—really got me into video editing, but I had no clue what I was doing here. I'd totally redo the video if I ever made this thing happen; if nothing else, I think I'd like to add subtitles for the more literal Japanese translation, since a large part of my argument is the impact of naturalistic dub scripting.

-The plan was to pair the video with an analysis, but I feel like I've probably already said everything I would say there elsewhere. Heck, this post has gotta essentially be the tl;dr. While it might be neat to have the video with concrete examples, and while I obviously don't at all expect anyone to be super familiar with everything I've ever said (even I'm not!), and while I don't think I can exactly be compared to a "content farm" that just recycles old things in slightly different ways because I'm not making any money from this, I still don't wanna annoy folks by being a broken record.

-I'm super biased! I also haven't seen most of the content that Bang Zoom! has dubbed for the series because I'm so far behind, and they're only dubbing more recent releases. If I do go through with this project, I think it'll have to be after I watch all the Bang Zoom! stuff... and given how slowly I'm going through this series, that'll be a while...

That's probably enough rambling! I have posted some snippets of the video over in the DCMK Fanfiction Server, and while it's badly cut, I don't mind resharing this bit comparing the dubs for Kogoro, Agasa, and Megure!

Line in the sand.

I have a fondness for villains. I do. I love writing about characters with a dubious moral compass. But there is a line that I will never cross.

No means no. Romanticizing sexual assault is disgusting. You can’t just drug someone into sleeping with you and be okay with it.

While my stories do contain explicit sexual content, rough sex, vile talk/dirty talk, these are from consenting adults.

My kind of villains have standards.

To my point, Gin—a murderous fiend is actually very respectful of women. He generally treats women as equal and respects their privacy.

Chapter 502: New Order (Black Impact Arc). Gin stood outside of his car, waiting for Kir to change while blocking the view from the outside. You can see Kir zipping up her skin-tight suit as she was getting out of the car. Later, you see her clothes neatly folded in a bag in the Porsche 356A.

Gin will put a bullet in your head, smash your skull with a crowbar, but at least, he has manners =]]].

Wakasa Rumi Theory Series: Part 2 of 3

Hello lovelies! This is my second part of my Wakasa Rumi Theory that will go over my thoughts about Haneda Koji's murder and his dying message.

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD

Just for reference, I already covered the first three points in Part 1 and the ones in bold are the ones I'm covering in this post:

4. What might have happened on the day of Haneda Koji's murder.

So based on the blog that uploaded, we know that two people were killed in each of their own hotel rooms; Haneda Koji and Amanda Hughes (an investor who holds powerful connections to the FBI and CIA). While Haneda Koji showed bruises and signs of struggle against his assailant, the actual cause of his death was unclear, as well as with Amanda Hughes. (In reality, the cause of his death is because of APTX-4869 and the same can be assumed for Amanda). Both rooms were left in a total mess with crockery and glass broken as well as taps left running in the bathroom. Amanda was a huge fan of Haneda Koji and happened to visit him in his room the day of the murder before they were killed. Also on the same day, her bodyguard whom she called 'Asaca' disappeared and she is the main suspect of the murders. Interestingly, something else went missing from the crime scene which was Haneda Koji's Watchtower Bishop (a shogi piece he deemed as his lucky charm). His family is convinced he would never parted without the shogi piece and whoever has it must be the murderer.

All these accusations point to Wakasa because not only has she disappeared for 17 years and her identity is shrouded in mystery, but she also has the exact shogi piece that went missing from the crime scene...So, what exactly happened?

Based on the fact that only Haneda Koji's body was bruised, I'd say he put up a fight after witnessing Amanda's death. The likelihood that he used the taps in her bathroom to cut the mirror before fleeing to his room where he was then finished off is very possible. Why? The case similar to 17 years ago foreshadowed it.

I'm guessing when Amanda was murdered, Wakasa was probably out for whatever reason and upon her return, she saw Amanda's state. She then walked in and saw Haneda's body. The reason why I'm convinced she discovered their bodies and did not happen to be there when they died was her reaction in Chapter 1032 to blood and her obvious knowledge about how bodies do not necessarily smell until days later after their death. This could very well imply she lived through this before, which is why she is so knowledgeable of the topic. And smelling blood, reminded her of when she found Haneda dead in his room.

She then noticed the cut up mirror with one part of it looking like a shogi piece. As she picked it up, RUM returned to clean up and they ended up struggling in a fight before she managed to escape. The reason why I think Wakasa was in a physical fight with RUM was how triggered she seemed when she saw him leave the school after his delivery. The way she looked at him with such apprehension, it shows as if she were remembering their interaction before.

She would turn out to be RUM's mistake. He couldn't finish her off and not only did he leave a loose end, but she also ran away with a crucial part of Haneda Koji's dying message, leaving RUM unable to fully destroy the crime scene. Also RUM is clearly aware of its significance to Haneda Koji's dying message. Especially after he not-so-subtly mentioned it to Conan in Chapter 1057.

The final thing in relation to this part of the theory is Wakasa's flashback of Haneda Koji in the Collecting Edible Wild Plants Chapter. Why was she calling him a fool? It made a lot of sense when I found out the actual meaning of the proverb Haneda Koji said in her flashback.

The proverb he said is 'with a watchtower bishop there must be a brilliant move'. This proverb translates to the Bishop should stay at a distance while aiming at the opponent's camp rather than approaching them directly. Now that we know the actual meaning of the proverb, Wakasa's words make more sense. She guessed that he probably underestimated RUM and approached him rather than escaping him. Hence why Wakasa refers to him as a foolish person because in the end he got himself killed. Not because she thinks he's a fool and she managed to kill him. Again, a classic on Gosho's part to frame innocent characters as threatening and dangerous when the truth is she is just extremely upset over his death. Her collapse to the ground shows just how much Haneda meant to her. If anything, she probably like Rei, feels guilty she couldn't save him in time, which is why the memory of him is so triggering to her.

Phew, finally done with the fourth point 😂 There really was so much to unpack there. Anyways, I hope it made sense...

5. How Haneda Koji's dying message directly refers to RUM as his killer.

Now that it has been confirmed that RUM is Wakita, I'll be showing how Haneda Koji's dying message refers to "RUM", aka Carasuma's number 2.

The key to solving the message lies in the broken mirror and linking it to the shogi piece. Akai and Yusaku already solved the true meaning behind the broken mirror. The remaining pieces on the mirror had the letter PTON. These letters are not needed and the letters that do matter are the scattered ones from the original 'PUT ON MASCARA'. If we remove PTON we are left with U MASCARA which was then rearranged to CARASUMA. However, one letter in particular was cut out in the form of a shogi piece. If we write 'CARASUMA' with the shogi piece border around the letter U, it will seem as if it is hinting to another message within CARASUMA. That would form a word: UMA. UMA translates to Dragon Horse and is the promoted version of the Watchtower Bishop (the shogi piece held by Haneda Koji). (Promoted in shogi means to simply flip the original shogi piece to use its 'levelled-up' power...It's the same piece not two separate shogi pieces). Therefore, if we flip Haneda Koji's shogi piece, it will show UMA which is the more powerful form of the Watchtower bishop.

Anyways, what is the significance of UMA and how does it relate to anything? Well, Uma in shogi is the second strongest shogi piece. The strongest shogi piece is Dragon King (Ryū). Based on this we can assume this is the dying message. UMA of Carasuma (second strongest / number 2 aka RUM) of Carasuma killed me. This might seem too far-fetched but there was too much coincidence when I found out about Uma's strength as a shogi piece that it made sense to me to think that Haneda Koji's dying message points straight to RUM. However, I'm not sure how Haneda Koji figured out that RUM is Carasuma's number 2 in the first place. Maybe it was during his struggle against him before his death or maybe he overheard Amanda before her death talk about it, but so far this is what i came up with.

Shinichi Kudo/Conan Edogawa: The Anime Character Who Loves The Spotlight

'Before he became the little detective called Conan Edogawa, Shinichi Kudo really loves the spotlight, shown to be confident and kinda arrogant. Because of the seemingly impossible cases being solved by him, he was known all over Japan by many titles, like "Savior of the Japanese Police", "The Detective of the East", and "The Heisei/Reiwa Holmes".

Unfortunately, he was sometimes reckless and impulsive at times, always jumping on possible danger, which spells his downfall when he had unfortunately encountered the Black Organization and was poisoned.

We could assume that he possibly inherited his love for being in the cameras from his mother, who is an actress. But what if there is another possibility he became that way?

What if the possible reason is because of the way he was actually raised by Yusaku and Yukiko Kudo?

Shinichi Kudo actually grows in a laissez-faire parenting environment. Laissez-faire is a French term meaning "to let people do as they please." Applied to parenting, the term refers to a permissive style in which parents avoid providing guidance and discipline, make no demands for maturity, and impose few controls on their child's behavior. Permissive parents allow their children to make their own decisions regarding matters such as mealtimes, bedtimes, and watching television. (Source: this site)

Children growing in a laissez-faire style of parenting gets too high in praise, but low in punishment. We only had seen Shinichi (as Conan) being fake-kidnapped by his parents to show how dangerous the Black Organization is, and the childhood memory of Shinchi being mock noggied by Yukiko. That means that the children can do whatever he wanted to do, with less supervision of his parents.

Yusaku and Yukiko let Shinichi make his own decisions, letting him go free and do what ever he wanted to do. Yusaku even let Shinichi pursue his love of mysteries, which lead to him being curious all the time, and dragging Ran into some trouble sometimes, much to the worry of Kogoro and Eri.

According to Jeff Nalin, an award-winning licensed clinical psychologist and founder of Paradigm Treatment Centers, without proper boundaries associated with authoritative parenting, children grown in a laissez-faire environment are left to fend for themselves and may approach certain situations without fear or trepidation, which can increase their chances of engaging in risky behavior such as substance abuse. That explains how Shinichi likes to take the risks and jump into danger, causing his downfall as a high-school detective. He was left to fend for himself, causing him to develop this unfortunate habit of his.

This stems to the fact that Yusaku and Yukiko are fresh out of their 20s when they had Shinichi, and they had to sacrifice their extravagant lifestyle just to raise him. Yukiko had to retire from being a famous movie star just to raise her son, while Yusaku was still new as a mystery novelist. They were still adjusting to family life...but it seems like they are still adjusting.

With the permissive parenting style plus his super high IQ makes Shinichi having a growing problem - having a huge ego the size of Japan. It seems like he had matured faster than a regular kid as he was acting like he was an adult, and because of his slightly superiority complex, he only has few friends who can tolerate his attitude.

Shinichi also had a tendency, since elementary school, to have an air of being the "distant, cool guy". While he is a truly good and heroic individual, he doesn't make it known to others that obviously, and will make some "deductive reasoning" for why he did such a thing. He seems to be awkward with other people, as he was stuggling to deal with some social cues.

However, instead of trying to comfort her, Shinichi repeatedly asked her about the strange woman she met, and told her to pull herself together. This is also an effect of laissez-faire parenting.

Add to the injury is the fact when they had left him in Japan when he was 14-years old, as they had possibly thought that Shinichi is mature enough to fend for himself (and he couldn't leave Ran).

Um, news flash, he's still fourteen. Mature or not, he still needs his parents to guide him, as teenage years are also crucial in the children's development. They couldn't wait for Shinchi to turn 18, they just left him in a huge mansion...alone.

Without his parents physically beside him, young Shinichi had developed another hidden issue: he had started to seek attention to anyone, even strangers. That's why when his career as a detective grew after his first case (back when he was 15), his fame had started to grow too, making his ego inflated as it already is. He had been given attention and adoration he had been unconciously wanting that his parents never gave him. Prior to his transformation, Shinichi enjoyed being in the spotlight and was rather arrogant, reveling in making local headlines and receiving fan-mail. He will become more like an arrogant jerk, if Ran wasn't there to beat his ass.

When he became Conan Edogawa, the fact that he had to hide from the Black Organization, his attention-seeking behavior had lessen to an extreme, but it seems like he is still having the behavior: He prefers to be taken seriously by anyone, especially to those who never knew his secret, even though he's a child. He's probably still adjusted being out of the spotlight.

The possible reason why his attention-seeking behavior is lessened (besides he had to hide from the Black Org) is because Ran had fullfilled the role of being a mother/older sister figure to him, without the baggage of knowing that he's actually the same age as her. Ran always fusses over him, even cared for him, and loved him like a sister or a mother (she didn't know that she was taking care of her childhood friend). That means Ran had fullfilled his longing for attention and total loving care that a parent should have given to him, she even deflated his ego at times.

Adding to the fact that Ran had been with Shinichi's side since childhood, who had been taking care of him ever since his parents left him, Shinichi had started to have stronger attachments over Ran, who besides as a lover, unconsciously sees her as a mother/sister figure to him as Conan Edogawa...which is unfortunately can be associated with the controversial Oedipus' Complex.

Also called the oedipal complex, the Oedipus Complex is a term used in the psychosexual stages of development theory by Sigmund Freud, and occurs during the phallic stage of psychosexual development.

It involves a boy, aged between 3 and 6, becoming unconsciously sexually attached to his mother, and hostile towards his father (who he views as a rival). According to the controversial concept, children view the same-sex parent as a rival.

Remember...Conan is 6 years old in the manga! He may have the mind of an adult, but there are instances that he unconsciously developed a childish personality, which deviates from his first childhood personality, due to the "parenting style" he currently had with the Mouris.

As Conan, his current mother figure is Ran. Added to the fact that he loves her in a romantic level as Shinichi, his protectiveness over her has doubled in size, still growing as time passes on. That means his intense jealousy over boys flirting Ran had been increased to a maximum because of Ran's double role in his life: a lover and a mother figure!

assumes everyone is as friendly/nice as she is, expects the best of people even if they’re extremely sketchy

rarely realizes when she’s been hurt/is being used, can only notice it when other people are being hurt

(see: she thinks kaitou kid is terrible because hes being mean to her dad)

excellent memory but has a hard time discerning which information is important so she tends to just remember Everything to compensate

extreme memory association: her school notes are all doodles, and she can look back and them and remember “oh we learned xyz in class that day, right”

so basically when you go through some stressful stuff in your childhood (like losing your mom at a young age and having a workaholic dad) and you have a hard time coping, your brain will either go “okay i have to grow up immediately and be super responsible all the time because no one else will be” OR it will swing in the opposite direction and cling to “childish” habits completely unconsciously, like:

talking in third person

overly childish/cutesy personality/traits

bad sense of danger/consequences

and a lot of these symptoms overlap with each other tbh? like nld also causes anxiety and the fidgety thing. age regression probably lends to her outbursts and impatience-- etc.

so yeah i have a lot of thoughts about neurodivergent headcanons and im going to make that everyone elses problem and i super appreciate you asking for the content

Akako's primary servant is a summoned demon named Hanni. She summoned him briefly after her family died because as a young child she needed a caretaker (although she'd never admit that she NEEDS him or any other servant.) This option seemed safer to her than getting help from humans because she wouldn't have to give up her family's home, or her remaining control over her own situation.

Hanni thinks of her like a daughter, doing his best to help her and doting on her. Akako secretly thinks of him as a father, but doesn't quite believe that his love is real and not a result of her magic. It took awhile to trust him, since demons often turn on weak summoners they don't respect.

His true form is a ball of fire, and the human-like form is taken both for her comfort and to avoid scorching her possessions. Before Akako he went a long time without close contact with humans so his disguise isn't very good. It barely passes as human. But at least he's improved from when she first summoned him.

Hanni used to homeschool Akako with a focus on astronomy, liberal arts, and helping her with her magical self study. Although he's been trying to convince her to go to school since his modern human knowledge is lacking. She eventually decided to enter highschool for the social aspect, or in her words, "to amass a following of loyal servants."

He also gave Akako her snake familiars.
