what's ur recommendation of comics to read so I won't get called a fake daredevil fan when I wear a "im not daredevil shirt" for halloween
NOT a daredevil expert so take this with a grain of salt AND if any of my DD mutuals want to chime in that’d be awesome
if you want to read the run with the infamous “i’m not daredevil” shirt, that’s daredevil 2011. i really like it. it’s the volume that actually got me into comic books for real. daredevil 2014 is by the same guy (+ artists for the most part) and i also really like it!
i haven’t read daredevil 2016 in years but i remember enjoying it at the time. matt has a protégée named blindspot!! he’s awesome .. also mike. mike murdock. hey. listen to me. mike murdock
i’ve been jumping around miller + nocenti’s daredevil runs as well, but i haven’t read enough to know if i should recommend them as a whole. also, i’ve been meaning to get around to reading bendis’ run all the way through, but i keep forgoring
also: daredevil noir!!!! it’s not 616, it’s set in the same universe as spider-man noir and it’s REALLY GOOD. the art is amazing .. i love it .. look

- Haikyuu headcanons!!! {fluff!!}
Osamu Miya
Clingy af.
Back hugs💕💕
You would be reading your book as you're seated on his lap while he hugs you from behind, his chin resting cozily on your shoulder as he glances at the book you're reading.
Of course Osamu cooks delicious meals!! While cooking you would also hug him from behind as you praise his chef skills. You of course are his protégé and his assistant in the kitchen, handing him the ingredients and utensils he needs, while also giving mental support for his recipies~
And when both of you are bored you always have lots of activities you can choose from!! Such as picnics in the park, playing in the playground while elders give you both odd looks bc of your child likenesses 🙉, even trips domestically and internationally!! Both of you are cute travel buddies~
Midnight drives with you guys' playlists playing and packed onigiris and chips and biscuits ! Just randomly driving wherever the wind takes yall.
I feel like y'all as a couole stereotype would be like, when outside wandering around, you'd be the cute, goofy and cheeky gal and osamu would look a lil bit intimidating, especially to boys who steal glances at you, but ofc he is a big soft and cuddly baby when it comes to just the 2 of you ><
Boopable face. Like literally sometimes you would wake up earlier than him and youd see him cuddling you tightly on your side, his head sweetly placed on your chest, arms dangling on your tummy. You boop his cute nose. Ruffle his messy bed hair and soothe his lips and cheeks, stealing pinches hehe.
Nishinoya Yuu
ACKKKKKK LEMME JUST-
THIS ADORABLE LIL 2D BEING 😭
"Y/n-chan!!!!" I can hear him say that always. Especially when he's super duper excited(as always too), with like the food you cook him, trips together- just the two of you. Always. Forever💕
His pouty face that reveals his chubby cheeks (squishable af.) when you dont give hime his attention ☹️. Like why would you not give him your undivided attention ? 😡😡😡
He also loves to you to double dates with his best pal tanaka and his wife kiyoko!!! The four of y'all are best buddies and are there for each other when one of you get into a couple fight.
I can also imagine tanaka and nishinoya having tons of convos to each other just all about simping for each other's lovers, tanaka would be so energetic and red and scream at tanaka about how beautiful kiyoko is in and out and Nish would be all excited and have these sparkling eyes and scream back at tanaka, talking all about how nishi finds yoy so attractive.
Loves to drag you into practicing his volleyball skills with him, so he can polish them and also flex them to you :DD
You guys always have fun together and hype each other up, but of course in every relationship, you not only share the good moments but also go through the hard ones--together. It you and him against the problem. Always.
He brightens you up, you're damn sure he is your light. Becahse obviously, he makes everything better and guides in darkness. But for him, he thinks that without you anymore, he wouldn't even bother or be the light he is everytime he is with you.
Because that's what a relationship is, give and take. It is never give or take. There's a huge difference. And i- as your narrator and/or author is proud to say that you both understand that.
Welp that's it fellas. Thank you for taking yoyr precious time to read me and my post. If you have requests you can always tell me, and I'm sorry for taking such a long break from all this 😓, came back and i still am not quite sure how tumblr works yet heheheeh
BUT, y'all better better stay healthy and safe.
💕🌼 With love and comfort,
Charis.

Your Celegorm headcanons are so good!! What are your Caranthir headcanons?
me: eee i'm so excited to answer their ask; it's so nice that they want to hear my opinions :DD
also me: *forgets about that same ask for multiple weeks at a time*
anyways, your patience knows no bounds and i adore you for it 💛
he has a port-wine stain (nervus flammeus birthmark) on the right side of his face, just like his maternal grandmother
fëanor really wanted him to be the long-awaited Kid Who's Into Forgework™️ and started trying to get him into it young, but caranthir never liked it. once curufin comes along, fëanor lets it go enough to not really bother him about it, and caranthir just ends up doing the grunt work/whatever curvo doesn't like.
he's a math kid all the way! as an adult, he handles most of the family budget work
a lot of the time, people forget about him. not because he's uninteresting, but because he's a. really good at melting into the background, b. doesn't do things that are socially inappropriate enough to merit that much attention, and c. doesn't really fit with the rest of the family.
however, he did get the patented fëanorian condescension gene and can be haughty and rude, especially during the years in beleriand
as a teenager and young adult in valinor, he makes a bit of a career for himself out of bringing social strays under his wing and watching out for them (he's idolized by multiple generations of tirion weird kids). his reputation for anger issues started because he liked playing vigilante for his protégés by scaring off bullies.
he and haleth absolutely hate and abhor each other when they first meet (she thinks he's stuck up and cold, he thinks she's ungrateful for not treating him like a hero)
he doesn't get along with finrod, especially in beleriand, because he sees the way finrod treats dwarves and humans as exoticizing and exploitative (he's right, but honestly, they're just different sides of the same coin on that front, so no resting on the laurels for caranthir)
he's fluent in khuzdul and lords it over all his siblings whenever he can
growing up, he handled a lot of the day-to-day household work without anyone really paying attention
he loves birds and helped establish the dwarf-raven relationship (he trained ravens himself as well)
before his death, he sets up a really convincing paper trail to make it look like the nirnaeth was partially his fault (making it look like he was withholding information and resources out of resentment) because he knows that if the doriath thing goes south, maedhros will need a reason to keep going, and anger will do that for him.
he sees himself as entirely dispensable to the family right up until the end of his life
he loves amrod and amras but is also always a little jealous of them for having each other--he wanted a sibling to pair with, and even though he took care of them the most growing up and knows they love him, it's clear that he's always an add-on to their duo rather than a part of it
he volunteered to go treat with angband in place of maedhros, because he suspected it was a trap and thought it would be more manageable to lose him instead
the most painful action he ever had to take was mercy-killing several of his own soldiers, most of whom he'd known and looked out for since they were children. his biggest guilt is bringing all of them to beleriand with him and he gets progressively more closed off from them as more and more get killed or disappear.
and on that happy note, i hope you liked these! :))

Best alternative future Daredevil? (Ignoring Darkdevil)
    (I will never ignore Darkdevil.)
No, but seriously, there are a few others that I also like. As far as future Daredevils go, I find Timmy Urich from DD: End of Days fairly compelling.
Do I still need to warn for End of Days spoilers? It’s been ten years. Anyway, End of Days spoilers incoming!
I appreciate the idea of Timmy as Daredevil for the continuity of it. The idea of someone Matt rescued as a child growing up to become his protégé and the next Daredevil is very fun to me. The idea of that child being Ben Urich’s kid is even better. And I love the fact that when we see Timmy in action, he has skills, but he’s still not great at it. (This is a bit of a theme. Samuel Fisk from Daredevil 2099, another fun future DD, is also not great at it... though in a different way.) Maybe it’s because I’m so used to seeing Matt as a seasoned hero-- even in his earliest appearances, he was pretty competent-- that it’s fun and refreshing to see a young, inexperienced aspiring hero take up his legacy. Of course, mistakes and miscalculations are a part of that legacy to some extent, but Matt was still a towering force in the superhero community, who left behind very big boots to fill. I love the rawness of Timmy’s situation, the fact that he is forced into this before he feels ready, still reeling from Matt’s and then his father’s sudden, violent deaths, looking for guidance, trying to find his feet amid the chaos.
But what I like most about the End of Days version of the Daredevil legacy is Mapone. I would read five million issues about (spoilers! SPOILERS!) Natasha and Matt’s snarky, Stick-reincarnated daughter training the next Daredevil (because, I assume, she doesn’t feel like putting on the tights herself).
Tumblr media
[ID: A panel from End of Days showing a grimy bar with a pool table in the middle, strewn with unconscious people. In the middle of the room stands Mapone Romanova, holding two halves of a broken pool cue. In the background, Timmy Urich (in a Daredevil mask, and a letter jacket and Spider-Man shirt ripped to show the Daredevil costume underneath) stands with his mouth open, looking stunned.]
Mapone: “And you have some serious blind spots. And you’re welcome.”
Daredevil: End of Days #8 by Brian Michael Bendis, David Mack, Klaus Janson, Bill Sienkiewicz, Matt Hollingsworth, and Joe Caramagna
As far as future Matt Murdocks go, Chaste leader Matt from the Wastelanders/Old Man Logan universe is fantastic. He has appeared in approximately 1.062 issues, but I’m still obsessed.
Tumblr media
[ID: A panel from Wastelanders: Hawkeye showing old Matt Murdock, standing tall and facing the viewer. In one hand he is holding a staff; his other hand is behind his back. He has white hair and short white facial hair, and is wearing dark glasses, and gold-trimmed orange robes open in the front to show the DD of his Daredevil costume underneath. Behind him, smoke, ashes, and fire can been seen rising up from a low building complex, into the sunny sky.]
Matt: “You truly can’t see a damn thing. And it has nothing to do with your blindness.”
Wastelanders: Hawkeye #1 by Ethan Sacks, Ibraim Roberson, Dijjo Lima, and Cory Petit
In this dystopian, Wild West-esque future, we find Matt as the head of the Chaste, having adopted the title “Stick” (though he still goes by Matt in casual settings). In this role, he seems to be largely removed from the on-the-ground petty hero/villain conflicts in which many of the other Wastelander protagonists are involved, though obviously, this doesn’t mean that he isn’t still kicking massive amounts of butt. It’s an interesting future for him-- not the leader-of-the-Chaste angle, that’s a concept that been toyed with before, but the idea of Matt stepping back a bit from hero work in this way. There are many future Matts who are dead, there are a few who have retired, there’s Darkdevil’s...unique situation, but this is a fun, striking vision of him in his old age. As a Stick fan, it gives me tremendous joy to see him step into his mentor’s identity. Plus, as a bonus, Elektra is leading the Hand by this point, and Matt seems to have a kind of playful enemies-with-benefits relationship going with her, which is just beautiful (the benefits are flowers). I adore the fact that while he is now in a leadership role...older, wiser, dignified, respected...he has not transformed into a different character. At his core he’s still sassy, daredevilly Matt Murdock.
Tumblr media
[ID: Another excerpt from Wastelanders: Hawkeye. Matt and Clint Barton (both old men; Clint has long hair and is wearing a brown cloak) are in a helicopter hovering above snow-covered mountains. It is snowing lightly. Clint is at the edge of the open helicopter door, and Matt has a hand on his shoulder.]
Matt: “Okay, then. Don’t forget to count to ten and then pull the rip cord.”
[ID: He casually shoves Clint out of the helicopter.]
Clint: “Whaaaaaaaatt the heeeeeeeeelll--?!”
Wastelanders: Hawkeye #1 by Ethan Sacks, Ibraim Roberson, Dijjo Lima, and Cory Petit
You asked about future Daredevils, and instead I gave you two Sticks. How did that happen? Anyway, thanks for the question!

Your post on the phantom vs engarde/dekiller really made me think about how impersonal dd/soj feel compared to the original series. Like in aa1-4 the end villains were all tied up so deeply with the main cast with the exception of engarde/dekiller, but those 2 still worked because of the ways they forced themselves into the lives of the main cast. Maya gets kidnapped, franziska is attacked, and both of these things force edgeworth to come back which simultaneously forces phoenix to talk about how betrayed he felt by edgeworth’s disappearance and also reveals the real reason why Fran has a grudge against Phoenix and why she’s trying so desperately to take him down. The lives of these characters feel so close. Then you have DD and SoJ. In DD, even though the phantom ties heavily into athena’s and simon’s backstories he feels so deeply impersonal about it, like he could have literally been anyone and it wouldn’t matter at all. And in soj a ton of the character interaction feels so hollow and disjointed, there’s even an instance where you find out a major piece of Apollo’s backstory and it’s not even a cutscene or anything, it just happens when you look at a picture on a wall and phoenix is barely surprised and makes almost no comment on it. It’s like wtf! You didn’t find that interesting, how your protégés life is tying back into your life? Don’t you want to know more?? But the characters and their connections barely even matter anymore. Also the case with Athena and Simon feels weird and stilted, there should have been more of a strain between them following all of the stuff with the phantom as they tried to rebuild their sibling relationship now with all of this heavy baggage.
soooo true bestie,, like a huge amount of it is from the refusal to spoil previous games but it’s also that (soj especially) just doesn’t give anyone enough focus. it brings back all these characters and waves them around and doesn’t do anything interesting with them apart from draw all screentime away from criminally underdeveloped new characters

To Bury Your Dread With You
A Batman & Robin fic. (Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson
TW for Claustrophobia
Summary: Dick tries not to panic. Bruce had been incredibly clear about how it was all just a simulation. Nothing real. Nothing actually being shoveled on to his coffin. In fact he wasn't even in a coffin. Because coffins had spongy lining that made lying down in a comfortable pastime as opposed to the hard wooden panel he's lying against. It's not real. It's not real. It's not real
AO3
Dedicated to that one Anon who asked for a DD+Dick Grayson fic. For which I have yet to deliver. This is not what you asked for but i hope it’s enjoyable for now. I am definitely gonna write the DD+Dick Grayson but not at the moment
It was supposed to be a drill. A rehearsal in a way since neither of them could well afford for the real thing. Especially, since it's always important to note that Bats never got to go through drills himself. He relieved his mistakes straight on, consequences and all which usually came in bloody capes and armor piercing bullet holes. Sometimes Robin wonders if Bruce stays up late just thinking of other contingencies he has to yet prepare his protégé for. Not that he's ungrateful for it of course. After all it's always better to learn how to relieve dangerous experiences in a controlled and safe environment as opposed to when he's running for his life. He appreciates it really. Though he does sometimes feel certain menial preparations are uncalled for. Or at least that seems to be Alfred's opinion of them, menial or otherwise. Which is probably why Bruce doesn't inform him about half of the more dangerous ones. But it's Alfred so Dicks betting his money on the fact that the guy already knows.
Though as Dick listens to the sound of dirt falling with hard thuds on his coffin, he can't help but wonder if the ever faithful butler knows about their current effort.
Dick tries not to panic.
The pressure pushing against the creaking box is also fictitious he knows. But as he's lying prone within the confines of the casket, mulling over the thought doesn't do much against his strained nerves.
"It will all be a simulation", Bruce assured him for the umpteenth time since it had been proposed. But there's a glint of doubt in his eyes that prods a painful thrum in his own chest.
Robin had wanted this though. Begged for it in fact.
"It's necessary. Better you than the joker" , he had insisted. Actually being on his knees would have done little to refine his plead.
At the clear refusal in his mentor's eyes, the young boy adds "Make it a simulation then. Like you did with the fear gas. Just so I know how it feels. Please B."
It had taken a bit more needling but Bruce finally relented. Dick remembers the gleam of pride he'd shown at how dedicated the young acrobat was to their cause and it had made him feel so alive.
He tries to remember and grasp that feeling as he enters the 10th minute of being stuck in this stupid pressurized wooden box.
In his defense it works for another 20 minutes before the drop of oxygen reaches a significant enough level that breathing becomes a chore.
"Don't panic", he thinks which is of course a bad idea because that only opens up the actual possibility of him panicking. So he tries to push his thoughts in a different direction. Tries to fight the accumulative feeling of claustrophobia by imagining himself flying through the air in one of his routines. But that only serves to remind him of his mother which wouldn't be a bad thing if it wasn't acquainted so closely to a sharp feeling of dread. It had barely been half a year after all since they fell. Since he hadn't managed to catch them.
"Ok, stop!" he admonishes himself again for the intrusive thought, trying to instead remember more pleasant memories.
"We're not meant to sit still Dickie", His mother's words wash over him with a soothing sense of relief. Like a cooling balm spread over a wound. "We're meant to fly. We're meant for the skies". But still, the reminiscence hits him with a hint of sadness. Like tendrils wrapping itself around his heart and giving it a painful squeeze and suddenly he wants to cry. He's wants to scream. He wants out. He feels drowned in a way that has nothing to do with the four tight walls that hold him.
He grits his teeth against the prickling, invasive desire and instead starts to sing.
He'd fly through the air with the greatest of ease
A daring young man on the flying Trapeze
His movements were graceful, all girls he could please
And my love he purloined away
He repeats the chorus over and over until the hour finally ends, feeling the pressure release before the box opens. Oxygen rushes into his tiny space and his mouth hangs open to swallow the air greedily but he doesn't move.
"Dick?"
Strong hands burrow under his shoulder and lift him out and almost reflexively he curls up in his guardian's arms that in turn hold him close.
"Hey...shhhhh... it's ok. It's ok. I'm here. I'm sorry. I shouldn't have agreed to this", Bruce's voice is thick like he's speaking through gritted teeth. The rise of his chest uneven as if he's holding back sobs. On a normal day Dick would've leaped at the chance to comfort and assuage the much older man but at that particular moment there's a heaviness in his limbs that refuses to fade and instead he clings ever closer to the fabric of his guardian's shirt.
A part of Dick wants to concur. Wants to protest that he's too young for this. Too young to be pushing himself so hard. Too young to be feeling this desperate need to improve and be better. To rise above and beyond what is required of a boy his age.
But a bitter voice in his head snaps back that he'd been too young to lose his parents too and he recoils.
"No. No it's ok Bruce. I needed this. It's ok. I needed this. Thank you"
He attempts to assure the vigilante but it only succeeds in the man pulling him ever closer to his chest.
"No chum. No it's not. I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. You're still hurting and I didn't notice. I didn't see it. I'm so sorry chum"
"I did it though. I did good didn't I?"
He gets a warm, lingering peck on his forehead for his trouble.
"You did great chum. Better than I expected. You always do"
The praise envelopes him like a temperate sun on a sunny day of spring and he feels the tightness in his chest loosen as he lets out a breath he hadn't realized he'd held. The taut, rigid spring of his muscles uncoil. He opens his eyes and raises them to meet his mentor's and he sees in them the same thing he saw the first time they'd met.
Understanding. Comprehension. Not only of the pain he felt but the overwhelming desire to fight tooth and nail against the numbness that threatened to drag him screaming into nothing. It fills him with a burning gratitude and he can't help but think that maybe, it's enough for now. Dick is still in pieces. It's been months and he still feels fragmented. As if parts of him had been scattered across the floor of that circus the same way his parents had and he still hasn't managed to gather himself up. He wishes he wasn't so desperate to feel complete and collected again. But he is and he can't help but hope that maybe one day he won't be so broken. Though as he relaxes in Bruce's arms, he concludes that until then, maybe they'll help each other feel whole. Maybe that's all he can do for now. Maybe that's all either of them can do and maybe -for the time being- it'll be enough to get him through the day.

About the so-called "Third-Case Syndrome"
I've been in the Ace Attorney fandom for a few years now, and there is a story I've heard more times than I can count: the story of the "Third-Case Syndrome." After joining the Danganronpa fandom, I realized - not without surprise - that a similar "Third-Chapter Syndrome" had admittedly cursed the series. However, I do believe that, in both cases, it would be wise to exert caution: things are never as simple as they seem. Now, even if this seems evident to me, I'll say it just to be sure: this is only my opinion. You might disagree, but please do not be toxic about it.
Before we proceed, I'd also like to warn you all: spoilers ahead for the entire Danganronpa and Ace Attorney series (even the Investigations and DGS games). Now, let's begin.
Ace Attorney:
AA1 - Turnabout Samurai:
To start off, we have 1-3. I agree with most of the fandom that it is slightly too long and the investigation segments drag out. Going from Studio One to Studio Two, to the Detention Center, etc. is quickly boring. However, its cast is solid (especially Powers and Oldbag), Dee Vasquez's motive (self-defense) is original, the Steel Samurai's theme slaps, and Edgeworth gets the first bit of his character development! I believe it outweights the negative aspects of the case and make it enjoyable. I believe it is far better than 1-1 and 1-2 (with its obvious twists and rushed ending), although it doesn't compare with 1-4 and 1-5, of course. But it's definitely not the case that people point the finger out when arguing about the "curse."
JfA - Turnabout Big Top:
I'll definitely be playing Devil's advocate on that one, but I like 2-3. Of course, the whole "love triangle" thing was shit, but the rest of the case was fine! Regina sucks, that I can agree with, but Moe was funny (in my opinion), Max got some quality character development in the end, Ben & Trilo were a nice duo, and Acro... Acro is one of the best culprits in the series, hands down. His theme is amazing and he is one of the most tragic characters in the series. Knowing that he unknowingly killed the person who had helped him is just sad, and his motive for trying to kill Regina, while not excusable, is understable. Losing the two people he was closest to, and him explaining that he couldn't "up and leave" (literally, too) before Bat had woken up was just sad. Also, while 2-3 isn't amazing like 2-4 (my favorite case) is, it's miles ahead of 2-1 (which objectively sucks) and 2-2 (which lasts for hours with an annoying and predictable culprit). Besides, the plot twist at the end with Edgeworth appearing sets the tone for the upcoming final case. In my opinion, Turnabout Big Top gets some undeserved hate.
T&T - Recipe for Turnabout:
3-3 is really good, no questions asked. The mere fact that it's better than 3-2 (predictable culprit, forgettable victim...) is obvious to me. But it also features the return of Maggey, and the first (and only) appearance of amazingly comical characters like Furio Tigre and Victor Kudo (who both have amazing theme songs). The victim might be a little forgettable, but he at least gets some development, unlike Bullard in The Stolen Turnabout. Of course, Tigre is obvious as the killer, but he's meant to be this way, and the way you corner him is amazing. The reveal that Godot can't see red on white matters in 3-5, and the case is hilarious. Special mention of Viola Cadaverini, who's underrated by the fandom, in my opinion. 3-3 is probably the strongest third case in the Trilogy, and it is definitely not the worst case in T&T.
AJ - Turnabout Serenade:
Okay, this case sucks. I dislike it very much and I can't find anything that would redeem it. The victim is boring, Daryan is obvious, Valant isn't good enough, the mini-game is tedious, and the "Phoenix saves the day" thing is repetitive. However, 4-3's biggest flaw is the defendant, Machi Tobaye. Lamiroir is an enjoyable character, and the plot twist surrounding her eyesight isn't bad, but it doesn't make Machi good enough not to ruin the case. This case is the weak point of a great game, but fortunately, 4-4 more than makes up for it.
DD - Turnabout Academy:
Dual Destinies is my least favorite game in the main series, but it has some solid cases, 5-3 being one of them. The trio of Juniper, Robin, and Hugh is amazing (even if the twist around Robin was pretty obvious), the WAA trio works very well, and we even get a chance to see Klavier again (his objection clip sucks, though)! It is definitely a strong case, even if Means was a bit obvious, and while it doesn't hold up to the great ending of DD, I do believe that 5-3 is better than 5-1, 5-2, and maybe even 5-4.
SoJ - The Rite of Turnabout:
Maya's comeback makes this case good, albeit not great. It is better than 6-1 for sure (drags on too much for a tutorial case) and probably 6-4 and 6-6, but it pales compared to 6-2 and 6-5, of course. Nayhuta is the weak point of 6-3, but everything else about this case is pretty good! The "new" Maya is a right balance of her former self with some more maturity, Datz is funny, Beh'leeb Inmee was a really emotional character, and while I don't like Tahrust too much, the plot twist around his death was pretty cool. Also, this case also makes it clear why Phoenix did what he did in 6-5 when Inga blackmailed him: he can't lose Maya. It could have been better, but this case is solid, and definitely not part of a "curse" of any kind.
AAI - The Kidnapped Turnabout:
Unfortunately, AAI kinda sucks. The first three cases aren't that good, and while I1-3 is probably better than I1-1, I'll admit it's terrible. It's long, the Amanos sucks, Lauren Paups isn't that great, and if it wasn't for Kay, the case would probably be the worst in the series.
AAI2 - The Inherited Turnabout:
Is there anything bad to say about I2-3? I mean, you play as Gregory freaking Edgeworth, so what more do you want? Ah, yes, it also has DL-6 development, the exceptional Katherine Hall and Jeffrey Masters, plot twists, flashbacks done right (!), and while the villain isn't great, he is satisfying to catch, and he matters in I2-5. Honestly, this case would probably be enough to prove my whole argument.
DGS1 - The Adventure of the Runaway Room:
After a somewhat disappointing second case (in my opinion), DGS1-3 is really good! Megundal (I'll use the names from the fan translation, since I'm used to them and like them better) is quite the interesting character, and the Engarde-like plot twist surrounding him is amazing. His death in the final cutscene is also good and ties in nicely with the final case. Ryunosuke's first trial in England gives him cool development, and damn it, Barok van Zieks! His legslam, glass throw, and objection clip suffice to make him an amazing character, and there's more to him that just that. This case is better than DGS1-2, DGS1-1, and maybe even DGS1-4 if you don't consider its link to DGS2.
DGS2 - The Return of the Great Departed Soul:
While not as good as the two following cases in my opinion, this case is definitely above-average. Gina's comeback is just great, and her new mentor-protégé relationship with Gregson is nothing short of wholesome. Enoch Drebbler is one of the best culprits in the duology, and Courtney Sithe's character is very good, too. She gives a confident vibe that really serves the case. Benjamin Dobinbough (because his canon English name is one I refuse to acknowledge) is a great clueless defendant, and his relationship to Barok is quite nice! It definitely makes the case trickier! Rozaic has a really mysterious and enjoyable atmosphere surrounding her, and finding Herlock standing like statue at the wax museum was amusing. Of course, the best thing about this case is Asogi's return. It is handled well by the game that doesn't try to cover the obvious plot twist.. The final cutscene is just *smooch*. I also can't forget the Joint Reasoning with Herlock when looking for Enoch. Again, this case is definitely not part of a "curse" of any kind.
Overall thoughts:
I don't think the Third-Case Syndrome holds for Ace Attorney. Some third cases weren't good (4-3 and I1-3) but most are either good (1-3, 3-3, 5-3, DGS1-3) or excellent (I2-3 and DGS2-3). I know Turnabout Big Top traumatized most of the fandom, but I don't think it's that bad, and definitely not bad enough to start a curse revolving around third cases.
Danganronpa:
Trigger Happy Havoc:
Chapter Three of THH is... good enough. The pointless argument between Taka and Hifumi is annoying, to be sure, and Celeste did us a favor by getting rid of them. And her plan wasn't bad, either! It could have worked if Makoto and Kyoko had not been there. However, I do believe that this chapter is too boring before the first murder. The motive is also... meh. The plot twist oh Hifumi waking up and remembering Celeste's true name was enjoyable, though. 1-3 isn't amazing by any means, but I think it's better than 1-5 and 1-6, but it stands no chance against 1-2 and 1-4.
Goodbye Despair:
Well, this one sucks. I think it's the only DR chapter that literally has a plot hole. The "Despair Syndrome" motive is probably the worse in the series and this case pretty much ruined Mikan's character. Her execution is lame, Ibuki shouldn't have been a victim (seriously, why?), the culprit is obvious, and the timeframe to execute her plot doesn't work if you aren't Sonic the Hedgehog. Also... that attempt at fanservice was cringe, and it almost killed Hajime. The only thing that redeems this chapter a bit is the name "Titty Typhoon" but that's it. This one definitely alimented the "curse," and rightfully so. In-between two great cases, 2-3 doesn't make a good impression.
Killing Harmony:
3-3 is a chapter I have mixed feelings about. On the one hand, the atmosphere was excellent and fitting of the killer, and Kokichi's prank had us all freak out at first. I don't like neither Angie nor Kiyo (sorry, Kiyo fans), but somehow, it didn't make the chapter worse for me. On the other hand, the Necronomicon motive sucks almost as much as the motive in 2-3. It could have worked in DR2 considering the Killing Game happened virtually, but in V3, the motive was just an outright lie from Monokuma, so it doesn't work. Also, Kiyo was a bit too obvious: the music, the theme, his sudden importance in the plot, the séance... it was just a bit too much not to make him suspicious. Finally, this chapter's major flaw, which I can sum up in one word: sister. That, was traumatizing. Without even going in details, everything that happened after Kiyo's "sister" appeared during the Class Trial ruined it. I'm also curious to know if the writers at Spike Chunsoft are mentally stable, considering Kiyo's relationship with his sister and the fact that they ship Monotaro and his sister Monophanie in the next case. It's not a bad chapter at all, but it has its flaws, unfortunately.
Overall thoughts:
While I wouldn't call it a "curse," it's true that third cases in Danganronpa aren't amazing, especially in DR2. You'll also notice that I didn't mention UDG simply because it's too different a game to be compared to THH, DR2, and V3. If we ever get another Killing Game, I hope that the third chapter will be better, because we've yet to have an awesome Chapter Three so far.
Final thoughts:
I don't believe there are curses revolving around third cases/chapters, neither in Ace Attorney, nor in Danganronpa. However, it's true that in the case of Danganronpa, on average, third cases are the weakest, while Chapters Four and Five are almost always great. Third cases in Ace Attorney definitely get an unfair treatement, though.
Thanks for reading, and I'm open to discussing all of this if you disagree!
