I honestly don't think anything happened between Dean and Benny. During that time in Purgatory, I think Dean would've been too focused on Cas to have a fling.

I really just saw them as friends. Maybe I just missed some subtext, but they felt like friends to me.

Not to say that they couldn't have been something else in a different situation, after all, Benny is Dean's type. And I find it fun whenever they are amiable exes in fanfic. But mainly, I just see them as friends.

don't know if anyone needs this, but this fandom isn't giving Benny Lafitte enough credit for the amazing character he was for so many reasons, and since the writers didn't write enough of him, i am here offering you my hc :

in blood brothers (8.05), Benny talks to his maker about Socrates : “you know what Socrates said about a life unconsidered.”

it resonates with the conversation he, Dean and Cas had in Purgatory about the value of life and listen. Benny is SMART. crazy smart. that's my hc. he met Andrea, and started reading about greek philosophers. and philosophy in general. he took in all the knowledge he could about humanity, and by becoming a vampire, learnt to appreciate and know it more than he ever did before.

now, when he finds Andrea is still alive, but willing to take the Old Man's place and his "legacy", Benny tells her what he loved about her isn't here anymore (—> her humanity). no wonder why he then starts to struggle without Dean (i am putting Elizabeth aside, she means a lot in Benny's arc but since he cannot stay with her, i'm not going to consider this here). and it makes a lot of sense since Dean is Humanity (cf Metatron "he's in love... with humanity" because we all know Cas was in love with Dean), and "the Righteous man"

Benny, a vampire, was more human than most of the actual humans Dean has met in his life. Benny is still to this day (and yes i know he's not been around a lot but still) one of the only character to never have betrayed Dean, not once. he was the most loyal man ever, and to be quite honest, i am still mourning him.
