Lady: Wait, what do you mean that kid is Vergil’s son?!

Dante: Exactly what you think it mean.

Lady: When did he even get the time to even-

Dante: I rather not think about that.

Lady: Well, how did he take it?

Dante: Take what?

Lady: The news! About his father?

Dante: Are you insane?! I’m not going to tell the poor kid anything about his family!

Lady: What?! He should know who his father is! Hell, he might think you’re his father!

Dante: And if that’s the case then I’ll step the hell up to the challenge, because that’s a better outcome then him finding out Vergil’s his father!

Lady: What?! Why?!

Dante: ‘Why?’ I don’t know, maybe because *imitates a casual voice* Hey Nero, it’s me, your uncle. That’s right, you’re the son of my brother, who you have never met before. He was a huge fan of genocide and killed thousands of people. Remember that one giant tower that appeared one day. You know, the one that spawned thousands of demons which killed nearly everyone in the city? That’s your old man. I killed him twice by the way.

Lady:……

Dante: Now how the hell do you expect the kid to act to news like that?

Lady:….okay, fair point.

I think it's extremely goddamn interesting that the main thesis statement Vergil's character arc was not that the acquisition of power was wrong (as demonstrated by how Nero and Dante both come to terms with needing power) but that his idea of what power is was wrong. Dante presents power as the choice over right and wrong, and Nero arrives at the same conclusion as his father that "without power you cannot protect anything". The difference is they are both internalizing the idea of power, drawing it from within themselves.

Vergil externalizes his desire for power, always trying to take it from something or someone, like it is something to be stolen or have stolen from you. When he is finally out of external sources of power to take, he is forced to cut out the parts of himself that he considers an obstacle to power, literally externalizing his own identity as something to blame for his weakness.

At the point when he is finally able to accept the responsibility of drawing power from within himself, he has already been stripped of all the external power he depended on. He can only recover from the damage he did by splitting between V and Urizen through both halves finally accepting themselves. It's his confrontation with Nero that cements this positive change. He witnessed Nero's entire journey to confronting Urizen through V, and knows for a fact that Nero's growth was entirely under his own means. He didn't pick up any fancy devil arms, get any family hand-me-downs, or do anything other than be downright diehard stubborn. And obviously per the unlocking of his devil trigger at the end, this somehow works. (And of course, this reflects Nero's own journey of self realization as he grows past the need for the power the Yamato gave him.)

Vergil's newfound willingness to be amicable and accept responsibility must in part be because he realizes he no longer has to confront others to get the power he needs. His world stopped being about who's holding him back or keeping him from what he desires.

Omori: But you already knew that.

Sunny: I had a feeling you'd say that...

(Sunny summons his violin)

Omori: How many times have we fought?

Sunny: Hard to say, it's the memory I have of us since I created you.

(Both Sunny & Omori smile at each other)

Sunny: Time to finish this Omori. Once and for all!

(Omori pulls out his knife as they prepare to battle)

See, I don't remember why you sent these DMC Omori asks, but I feel like this'd work better with Mari as Dante and Sunny as Virgil. And then the Headspace gang would work as V and the like.

Because ok, we firmly believe that Virgil is a system thanks to DMC 5. Like, it's not even subtle honestly. Griffon, Shadow, and Nightmare are literally alters that were expelled from Urizen along with V when he became Urizen, they literally say they're "discarded thoughts from when he was Nelo Angelo" and are "no longer bound to his consciousness", they're sentient creatures who can think for themselves and do their own thing, it's not a question for me. V and Urizen also kinda count but they were made by the Yamato separating Virgils human and demon sides from eachother and possibly fused together mentally aswell as physically (though that might be up to personal interpretation. The manga, from what I remember, might leave the door open for V to still be in there somewhere since he just gives the mental representation of the book to lil Virgil and then it shows Virgil back i think??? I need to read that manga i cant remember the page im thinking of well at all) but I still think they count as alters and Viegil feels very very plural to us. And Sunny is also very plural to us sooooo yeah. It makes sense eto combine em :p.

Yadda yadda, I'm getting off track, the point is I think I could slot the Headspace gang into V and the Familiars (New band name woo!!!) pretty well!!!

Like, one way you could do it is that V Sunny could be the regular old Omori while the Urizen Sunny could be Omor Boss Fught Omori. Or V Sunny could be the fucked up zombie Sunny you see in the mirror during the truth sequence while Urizen is Omori (or vice versa) [also tangent but I always liked it whenever Pre-Truth Sunny is represented as that zombie, both because I feel like that's a good way to represent how he probably feels after Stair Con 19XX but also because I dunno I think it's a cool look. Like the tall Onryo Mari in the mirror. You don't see art of them often and I like em], or V is Stranger and Urizen is Omori. There's alot of ways you could go with those two honestly!!!

Either way the Headspace gang fit neatly into the Familiars. Maybe Hero as Nightmare is a bit of a stretch but I think Aubrey could slot into Shadow pretty well (maybe as a big pink bunny instead of a shadow panther) and Kel as Griffon. I think that makes sense.

I'm kinda fuzzy while typing this out so I'm not sure where I'm going with this but yeah!!! I think Snuuy should be allowed to Judgement Cut End. As a treat (*^‿^*)

I'm slowly getting through devil may cry v and got inspired enough to doodle again. Sure they aren't polished but I love looking at others' sketch dumps, it's like looking at a smorgasbord of ideas. So here you go. Read more for close ups of the other doodles. The ID in alt are the same as written in the text.
