Meet Dr. @latikanath, India’s First Woman Wildlife #Biologist With A Ph.D. on Tigers . She was raised in Kashmir, Assam and Himachal Pradesh, where they had family homes, for holidays. She was born to Prof Lalit M Nath & Meera Nath At the age of six weeks, her parents took her to her first fishing trip at her family's hometown in Kashmir and when she turned one, she got a golden retriever puppy and a Siamese cat . Latika Nath, the first Indian to conduct thorough research work on tiger conservation and management in India, was also one of the first students to pursue an undergraduate degree in #EnvironmentalScience from Delhi University . She then obtained her D. Phil under the guidance of Prof. David Macdonald at the #Wildlife Conservation Research Unit (WildCRU), Department of #Zoology, Christ Church College, Oxford. She was awarded a Research Fellowship at the Wildlife Institute of India and worked on Human-Elephant conflict resolution issues . Works in extreme temperatures and braves tough terrains across the globe to work on her wildlife projects. While she has spent over 25 years working for tiger conservation, she works for 16 to 18 hours a day, lugging around equipment weighing close to 30 kg . Her contributions were included in #Discovery Channel's '#WildThings', popular films like a 'Tale of Two Tigers' by #BBC, 'Sita's Story', as well as the cover story on tigers for the 'Year of the Tiger' special in 2000 . In 2008 – she founded the Singinawa Foundation, with the purpose of establishing model eco-resorts all over the country . She also helped provide alternate sources of livelihood to the villagers in the buffer zone of Kanha Tiger Reserve – of creating charcoal briquettes from lantana and cow dung as a fuel source, funded by #TOFT .
