I've just had a dream that was so steeped in Magic: The Gathering lore that I need to post it to tumblr on the off-chance that people who know enough to understand it will be able to read it, because if I tell it to the people I usually tell my dreams to they won't understand a dang thing. Sorry @one-time-i-dreamt
So. The dream was in Ravnica, and was about this planeswalker lady. She was white, with long straight blonde hair, and a fancy blue dress. I have the feeling that I was dreaming I was her before my dream remembered I'm a boring cis man without any amazing powers so as far as I can recall I'm just following her, like the main character of a story. I'm not sure I should call her my OC since she was created without any prompting of my conscious mind but none of the characters in the dream have names so I'll call her that.
OC was walking down a boulevard in Ravnica with this dude. They were pretending to be a couple, but the dude was actually a Dimir spy she had bested and was kind of her prisoner. Dimir guy wasn't very happy about it but wasn't too angry either, he saw his "custodianship" as a work thing and kind of respected OC, so they were chill.
OC saw a woman who she realized wasn't from this plane, although she was pretending to be a local. She challenged Dimir guy to point out what made them realize this. Now I expected this to go like a Sherlock sequence, with each one pointing out a detail in the woman's outfit or some very precise behaviour. Instead, OC starts by pointing out that this woman is wearing
A FRIGGING BRIGHT BLUE SOCCER JERSEY
and not only are soccer jerseys not usual clothes in Ravnica, (at least not until Hooligans at Rakdos Stadium is released), but it also has a giant number on it (77 if you're curious), except that Ravnica uses a different writing system, so any planeswalker would immediately clock her as an outsider. (I think that it's only sort of implied that each plane uses a different writing system, but in the dream that was settled truth.)
OC is so apalled at how poorly this woman - who needs a name, so I'll call her BadKellan for reasons that will soon become apparent - is at hiding herself, she decides to have a word with her. BadKellan realizes she's being followed and hoofs it - but OC and Dimir guy immediately use their Dimir crap to become invisible. BadKellan thinks he's shaken them off, but she's quite rattled, so she goes to her safehouse, which happens to be just around the corner. OC and Dimir sneak in behind her, then make themselves visible.
Now I should tell you that Dimir Guy does nothing else in this story. I was going to say that he's just Ken, he's just there, but it's actually worse - his presence makes the story make no sense, since OC is about to reveal some secrets to some random lady. But the dream didn't forget him: I vividly recall that he was still around all throughout this part of the dream, even though he does nothing else.
So. OC reveals herself and tells BadKellan that what she's doing is very dangerous. She tells her about the Dimir (the guild, not the random guy) and says that if they see her poorly sneaking around and think she's going to be trouble, or even can't figure out what her deal is, they're just going to kill her. Which means it's incredibly dangerous for her to go around like that.
BadKellan reveals a few things about herself. She's from Earth - yes, our real world. She's not a planeswalker. She was brought to Ravnica against her will and told to blend in and pretend to be a local. She doesn't feel comfortable revealing who told her to do that.
OC decides to give BadKellan a few pointers on how to lay low on Ravnica. She explains that she would dress mostly in gray, since colours are strongly associated with the guilds and she should stay away from them to stop making waves. She asks her to change her outift and she'll say if it draws attention.
BadKellan changes clothes. She's now dressed entirely in gray, which is good, except that her shirt
HAS A LARGE, GLITTERING PRINT ACROSS THE FRONT READING
girl
IT'S THE EXACT SAME THING AS BEFORE. IT'S A LARGE PRINT USING OFF-PLANE SCRIPT. It's not as large as the jersey number, sure, but I'd like to remind you that it's glittering!
OC is apparently as taken aback by this as I am, because she turns her into a squirrel.
In fact, she specifically turns her into the squirrel from Bloomburrow key art.
Tumblr media
OC's logic is that BadKellan is so bad at blending in that this is the only way she can be safe. OC intends to release "squirrel girl" in a park while she tries to look into exactly whose plans she just ruined and how bad of an idea it was.
There was more to this dream, but my memories are fuzzy and it's (even more) uninteresting. I think it involves the Boros having a special currency that they gain when they help people but the Dimir also use it in a kind of ironic way? I don't remember.

Welcome the newest member to Dimir Faerie Court - Talion, the Kindly Lord. I don't know how any of these can work together, they're all so different. They seriously need a connecting theme between them.

Blue and black with some white powder inclusions and metal foil. This set of "Surveil and Transmute" dice is inked in metallic blue. It is inspired by the magic the gathering guild of Dimir.

A commission that I had in mind since early 2020 finally gets realized, with my overt dimir reporter Anedia (and now starting her own newspaper) getting official and finished art commissioned to @gentlesmolgruulgal! Nowadays more active on her Twitter.
Also art of the Sleepwalker, a dimir covert agent that helps on some cases, who's everyday identity is clearly a mystery. Also featuring one of the spellbugs she uses to deliver her spells. This one is one of the larger ones she can summon, and when she actually wants to be sneaky they tend to be much more transparent and smaller, but having one like this makes sure her personal space gets respected. And it's cute!
You'll probably see this art on cards for her in the future!

When I first started questioning my magic guild back in gatecrash and dragon’s maze I was like ‘dimir is coolest but they’re edgy so everyone’s gonna be dimir’ and chose orzhov
Many months ago I found a dimir guild pin in a bin at my workplace
Since I moved my main playgroup has been either commander or standard challenger deck format and I’ve been borrowing a dimir rogues deck
About a week ago I bought myself the dimir guild kit cuz the lands and spindown are cool and another pin would be nice
Yesterday the package arrived, hand delivered by a mail carrier about 20 minutes before the rest of the mail arrived for the day, and in it, instead of the guild kit was the dimir rogues challenger deck, and an aminatou commander precon.
I’ve never clicked with a dimir commander deck, not yet. But there’s something out there that wants me to Be Dimir, and I’m sure as hell not gonna say no.
…so what dimir commander would y’all recommend?

Guildpact Redraw Challenge! Prompt 1 -- Dimir
(text in cut below)
Image one (Jayati):
Mind mage with major memory issues from magical tampering. Mememnto.... 2!! (idk ive never seen it) Unable to conceptualize life outside her job.
Really bad at lying for someone from the spy guild. Gets around this by pulling her own memories out. Can't leak info if you don't know you have it!!
Never questions her orders (haha unless...?)
Image two (Mirth/Mimir):
At first I was thinking dual-wielded scimitars but then realized I already did that for a villain character from our space cowboys game, Daria (rip)
Was also thinking information broker but then realized I used that for another dnd oc lmao
So yeah, mimir -- dimir spy (Intel snoop) and khopesh/hand-crossbow user
Mimir's got the literal inverse of the "eyes up here" shirt. The cleavage is strategic -- if you're looking at boobs y'know what you're not looking at? His hands/face
Can you tell david bowie costumes were in inspiration here
Image three (Castor):
Something between a confidence man and a hitman. Relationships are a tool to be used, and friends are easy to replace. Who needs authenticity when you can game the system for approval instead?
High charisma -- specializes in social engineering
The guy you befriend at a pub who talks you into sharing guild secrets (Or the reason why you're reported missing a few days later)

Wedge Discussions
Inspo goes to @monorayjak, this was such a cool concept I wanted to build off that.
Sultai Edition
Blue: Here we are again
Black: So it would seem.
Green: What could they possibly want?
Black: Who cares? The question of what the user wants is arbitrary, what do WE want?
Green: That's not how we do things. That's not how ANYONE does things.
Blue: Oh stop bickering. Listen, we need to come up with what the user wants.
Green: Fine.
Black: Fine.
Black: What I want is to be in control of my destiny. I don't want to be beholden to anyone and anything. I am tired of life, which tries to restrict me from my ultimate goal. I want to become more powerful and control the world around me, and I don't care how I get to that point.
Blue: I guess I understand. I want mastery, perfection, knowledge, and the means to achieve them. I don't care if I have to use artificial methods, I WILL become perfect.
Green: I can understand your desire to grow, but I can't agree with either of your methods. I think the true method of becoming better is understanding the natural processes of this world, evolving as a person, and becoming stronger through our understanding of our interconnected nature.
Black: Yeah yeah, we all know green, things need to be natural and survival of the fittest, but isn't ambition and trampling on others the way to effectively grow?
Green: Not necessarily. We all are a part of an ecosystem, whether we like it or not. By trampling on all prey, we starve ourselves. By having individuals stronger than us, we are motivated to grow ever still. Being at the top of the food chain doesn't mean we succeded, it just means we have fit in our role.
Blue: Why does it have to be that way green? Not everything has to be about nature and ecosystems and all that. While we are a part of the world to some extent, if we want, we can separate ourselves from that entirely.
Black: I can't believe I'm saying this but listen to blue. With artifice and undeath, we can remove ourselves from the struggle to survive and just focus on ourselves. Why care about the natural order when we can supersede it?
Green: Because no matter how distant you are from nature, no matter how unnatural your existence, life and death exist in a seamless continuum. Even if you were to become a lich, your corpse would still decay, you would still become food for the microbes, mushrooms, and bacteria that are present around you. Even if you become artificial, the forces that power you will eventually be grown over as your power sources decay. Nothing is truly eternal, nothing will truly last forever.
Black: I mean, you are right that nothing escapes death, even undeath IS just another form of death. However, the ego can survive after death. How it's stored is irrelevant, as that can last the tests of time. Look at Yawgmoth. While Phyrexia was a disaster of plane, it did show that the ego can survive an eternity. Yawgmoth was present in the mind of all of Phyrexia.
Blue: Again, I do think that black has a point. Through innovation the mind can last forever. However, I do see green's point. Most of what we do won't be able to last. How do we achieve our goals if our goals are fundamentally separated?
Green: Well what do we value?
Black: Myself. Power above all else.
Blue: Knowledge. The pursuit of perfection through craft and thinking.
Green: Growth. The pursuit of connecting myself to the ecosystem and to fulfill my purpose in the food chain.
Blue: So we all value improvement of the self?
Black: We disagree on the methodology.
Green: So how do we unify our thoughts to become one force?
Blue: The survival of the fittest is inherently self-motivated.
Black: As is the pursuit of knowledge for knowledge's sake.
Green: And Death is a natural part of life.
Blue: But things don't need to end at death.
Black: We all serve a vital role in our ecosystem. Without death, things can't get fertilized.
Green: And without cultivation, we become stagnant.
Blue: So it's important to find a balance
Black: And it's better that we are the ones to be in control, since we are the ones studying it.
Green: And as long as we keep to our positions
Blue: We all can get stronger

Ravnica: The 38th District
Dimir
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despite its unassuming nature with few notable locations; The Dimid controlled districts are hubs of information and research. Littered with libraries on all subjects the dimir guild has expertly woven themselves into the 38th’s society; all the while they collect information and secretly pull the strings of not only the 38th, but Ravnica as a whole. The guildhall is known as The Underclock, where Mistini, the guild’s sphinx keeps a of nexus of Doomsday clocks for districts of interest. The four faces closest to Mistini’s chambers represent the 1st district, 10th district, the 38th district and a district whose identity is hidden, only two minutes till midnight. While the existence of the underclock is shrouded in mystery, high level dimir operatives oftentimes find themselves here during their missions, as it has become a hub of Dimir operations.
Tumblr media
Moving on to the main civilian hub of the Dimir Guild, the Lamplight District. The district gets it’s monacor due to the Crescent Rock Prison Complex, This Azorius controlled Prison was constructed to shield the district from the sun. This effect has caused the district to be in a constant shadow, and subsequently develop a Horrible infestation of duskshell crawlers This compacted district houses most of Dimir’s civilian population. Don't be mistaken, although this is a tightly compacted civilian area doesn't mean Dimir doesn't have its operations held within plain sight. Libraries, stores, and even the birds themselves all work as spies keeping a close eye on anybody within the 38th. Under the surface of the lamplight district is a large portion of Undercity. This area was previously azorius territory and thus is a large network of bridges and waterways now known as The Waterlamp District. This has allowed the district to become quite the pain to traverse for those unfamiliar with its complex layout. The entirety of the Lamplight and Waterlamp districts are butted up against the golgari necro-district of Hangulg which emerged and swallowed a chunk of the district about thirty years ago. While the two gilded districts dont necessary get along, the larger enemy is the Azorius Senate who built a complex of prisons hovering over the districts. Until the fall of the Crescent Rock Prison Complex the two guilds have vowed to cooperate.
