No no no cause what if Magnifico was a star? Keyword there being ‘was’. For one reason or another he was taken from his parents and brother (star) and stripped of his divinity and marooned on earth, maybe a vengeful family member which could have been a reference to Hercules (HERACLES).
He’s left with some magic and is raised by farmers. One day he finds out about his past, he gets angry and runs off and while he’s gone his home is attacked, he comes back right as the bandits leave and he tries to save his parents but can’t and they die. He runs off and is just kind of there for a year or two before a powerful sorcerer finds him and recognises his magic and so takes him in and trains him.
AND WHEN THE MOVIE HAPPENS HE TRIES TO STEAL STARS DIVINITY OUT OF JEALOUSY AND HE SUCCEEDS BUT STAR CONVINCES HIM TO GIVE IT BACK BECAUSE HE’D HAVE TO GIVE UP AMAYA.
It’s all like:
Star: “You’ll get the whole world and all its power. But it’s at the cost of her.”
Magnifico: *Visibly conflicted* “… I just want to go home.”
Star: “You already are.”

So I learned that Judge Doom from Who Framed Roger Rabbit was going to be in this year’s Oogie Boogie Bash and it got me thinking:
The Muppets meeting the Disney Villains in said boogie bash or being part of a show
The villains would think it’d be easy to torture some silly puppets but they would be WRONG and you know why?
The muppets aren’t stuck with the villains, the villains are stuck with the muppets

A version of Beauty and the Beast where it opens up with narration of the enchantress cursing the Prince the same as/similar to the narration from the two Disney versions, but we also see the action playing out on the screen and it’s clear that the Prince’s behavior is not unreasonable, and it’s only the enchantress’s prejudice and entitlement that’s making her read it as cruel and threatening.

in an act of desperation for more star wars content I have regretfully decided to watch the sequel trilogy again (with the exemption of ROS for my own sanity)
#yes I will be filtering out the bad bits with my OWN edits in my head which frankly make more sense and disney should have hired me to do#and all the shit that s&p no doubt had a hand in fucking up royally to the detriment of storytelling#everyone is going to kill me for saying also that the only solid through-line is ben solo's whole shit- and rey's also up until ROS#for the record this really is my only option I have watched all of clone wars I have watched all of rebels (kanan x hera FTW)#I have literally nothing except perhaps to watch The Mandolorian and TBOBF again and I won't let it come to that until season 3 of Mando#is about to drop#also controversial but Rogue One is kinda meh. It walked so Kenobi could force-jump kick-flip through the air over it.#I respect it for that service but nothing more#also I was firmly in the 'rey is a kenobi or perhaps a jinn' camp back when TFA came out and I still am but also liked that TLJ made her#a nobody so I'm conflicted#WAS convinced the guy Poe was talking to on Jakuu was related to Rey and now with the new info in Kenobi I can become more convinced he was#obi wan's brother but hey... hindsight is a bitch of a thing ain't it JJ Abrams? you fucking CUCK#anyway enough speecy spicy hot star wars takes and on with the show#oh yeah and S&P totally made rose tico happen bc Poe was supposed to be the feature alongside finn in that entire storyline#bc s&p is homophobic (no shade to the actress tho she's cool it's just a raw deal). you can't change my mind I know I'm right

the way entertainment companies treat nostalgia is bad btw
#hear me out okay#a lot of us grew up liking lots of different things#but there were definitely some things that a HUGE majority of our generation were definitely into#for instance: jurassic park or disney movies#these things are only 2 of many different forms of media that played a very major role in the childhoods of people all over the world#and because of how old these things are#rewatching them gives us a feeling of nostalgia#entertainment companies are beginning to realize this and they are also beginning to realize that this feeling of nostalgia#is something that they can exploit#i mean think about it#jurassic park should have honestly ended when the first movie came out#the sequels were just an attempt to milk the concept for more money#and imo its reached a point were theyve stretched the concept so much that its kind off lost its original essence#and now that theres been some time in between the first jurassic park movie and the current day#it gives the people in our generation a sense of nostalgia#so now entertainment companies are going to use this tool to make the next installment of jurassic park have a sense of nostalgia#to encourage old fans to watch it#theyll do things like hire the original actors#use the old set#and probably even bring back the old trex robot#my point is#these movies arent being created for entertainment anymore#these new set of directors want MONEY more than to entertain#and theyll do whatever it takes to get it#even if it means exploiting our childhood memories and feelings

The Phantom Menace is a Menace to my sleep schedual
youtube
The beginning of this video is a scene from the movie that had plagued me for years
A droid.
A robot. Metal, no eyes. It is designed like the ones in the thumbnail.
Was holding up Binoculars to see something in the distance.
BINOCULARS!!!!
IT DOESNT NEED BINOCULARS TO SEE!! ITS A ROBOT!!! BINOCULARS SHOW IMAGES IN REVERSE!!!! THAT DOESNT WORK FOR ROBOTS!!!! ESPECIALLY IF THAT ROBOT HAS NO FUCKING EYES!!!!!
THIS MOVIE COST MORE THAN I WILL MAKE IN MY WHOLE LIFETIME AND GOD ONLY KNOWS HOW MANY PEOPLE WORKED ON THAT MOVIE!!!!
I'm supposed to be sleeping but instead I'm ripping my hair out over how no one talks about this being the worst laps of logic displayed in media.
I could be making so much money as a script supervisor, but alas I am disabled and I hate Disney.
Yes this movie is 24 yrs old, no I am not over this stupid ass moment.

Hi- er, this is my first-ever writer's strike, how does one not cross a picket line in this context? I know how not to do it with things like Amazon and IRL strikes, but how does it apply to media/streaming?
Hi, this is a great question, because it allows me to write about the difference between honoring a picket line and a boycott. (This is reminding me of the labor history podcast project that's lain fallow in my drafts folder for some time now...) In its simplest formulation, the difference between a picket line and a boycott is that a picket line targets an employer at the point of production (which involves us as workers), whereas a boycott targets an employer at the point of consumption (which involves us as consumers).
So in the case of the WGA strike, this means that at any company that is being struck by the WGA - I've seen Netflix, Amazon, Apple, Disney, Warner Brothers Discovery, NBC, Paramount, and Sony mentioned, but there may be more (check the WGA website and social media for a comprehensive list) - you do not cross a picket line, whether physical or virtual. This means you do not take a meeting with them, even if its a pre-existing project, you do not take phone calls or texts or emails or Slacks from their executives, you do not pitch them on a spec script you've written, and most of all you do not answer any job application.
Because if this strike is like any strike since the dawn of time, you will see the employers put out ads for short-term contracts that will be very lucrative, generally above union scale - because what they're paying for in addition to your labor is you breaking the picket line and damaging the strike - to anyone willing to scab against their fellow workers. GIven that one of the main issues of the WGA are the proliferation of short-term "mini rooms" whereby employers are hiring teams of writers to work overtime for a very short period, to the point where they can only really do the basics (a series outline, some "broken stories," and some scripts) and then have the showrunner redo everything on their lonesome, while not paying writers long-term pay and benefits, I would imagine we're going to see a lot of scab contracts being offered for these mini rooms.
But for most of us, unless we're actively working as writers in Hollywood, most of that isn't going to be particularly relevant to our day-to-day working lives. If you're not a professional or aspiring Hollywood writer, the important thing to remember honoring the picket line doesn't mean the same thing as a boycott. WGA West hasn't called on anyone to stop going to the movies or watching tv/streaming or to cancel their streaming subscriptions or anything like that. If and when that happens, WGA will go to some lengths to publicize that ask - and you should absolutely honor it if you can - so there will be little in the way of ambiguity as to what's going on.
That being said, one of the things that has happened in the past in other strikes is that well-intentioned people get it into their heads to essentially declare wildcat (i.e, unofficial and unsanctioned) boycotts. This kind of stuff comes from a good place, someone wanting to do more to support the cause and wanting to avoid morally contaminating themselves by associating with a struck company, but it can have negative effects on the workers and their unions. Wildcat boycotts can harm workers by reducing back-end pay and benefits they get from shows if that stuff is tied to the show's performance, and wildcat boycotts can hurt unions by damaging negotiations with employers that may or may not be going on.
The important thing to remember with all of this is that the strike is about them, not us. Part of being a good ally is remembering to let the workers' voices be heard first and prioritizing being a good listener and following their lead, rather than prioritizing our feelings.

Rant incoming
I feel like the problem with a lot of Disney's live action remakes (and arguably Wish) is they're trying to appeal to a crowd that no longer exists, namely the people who used to claim that the Disney Princesses were sexist.
All the interviews tend to include, "Well she's not chasing a MAN anymore" which...almost no one sees the princesses like that, anymore. Virtually NO ONE still believes the princesses are man-chasing sexist caricatures of women.
Cinderella is now hailed as an abuse victim who stayed strong long enough to get help to get out of her situation. Anyone who says she should have saved herself is basically regarded as a victim blamer. And it's very clear in the film she wasn't looking to marry the prince, she just wanted a night off. She was the only one who wasn't in line to meet him. She didn't find out she met the prince until he went looking for her!
Snow White is now hailed for her negotiation skills, ability to calm down after extreme stress (she had a moment of panic and had to cry for a bit, but who wouldn't after finding out The Queen hired someone to kill you?), and ability to take charge of a house of adult men. And again, she was an abuse victim, this time trying to escape ASSASSINATION ATTEMPTS. While she dreamed of her prince, it was secondary to her main goal of SURVIVAL. There are also entire video essays about how Snow White gave hope to people during The Great Depression.
Everyone acknowledges that Ariel wanted to be human BEFORE meeting Eric. We all know she was a nerd hyperfixating on humans, and also standing up to her prejudiced father.
We understand Sleeping Beauty wasn't the main character, the Three Good Fairies were, AND PHILLIP WOULD NEVER HAVE BEATEN MALEFICENT WITHOUT THEM! He literally depended on them! WOMEN SAVED THE DAY! But even then, is it really such a sin for a girl to fantasize about romance and fall for someone with corny pickup lines?
We all understand Jasmine just wanted someone to treat her LIKE A PERSON. She rejected every Prince before Aladdin because they treated her like a prize. So why did they need her to want to be Sultan? How did that make her more feminist when she already wanted to be treated like an equal and have a say in her future? Is it only empowering if you want a career in politics?
We admire that Belle, despite living in a judgemental village, was kind to everyone (even though she found the village life dull), and her story teaches girls that the guy everyone else loves isn't always a good guy. What's sexist about teaching girls about red flags? And she didn't start being nice to The Beast until he started treating her with respect and kindness.
Do I really NEED to defend Mulan or Tiana? I think they speak for themselves.
Rapunzel was yet another abuse victim who just needed a little help to get out of her bad situation. In this case, she also needed to learn that she was an abuse victim, and that what Mother Gothel did WASN'T normal, much like many victims of gaslighting.
And don't get me started on the non-princess animals.
Perdita had a healthy relationship with Pongo to the point she was open to express her pregnancy fears to him, and was ready to TEAR APART Cruella's goons for daring to touch her puppies as well as adopting the other puppies. Like, she was so ferocious the goons mistook her for a hyena! She's basically that "I AM THAT GIRL'S MOTHER!" scene from SpyXFamily if Yor were a dog. She and her husband were a TEAM.....but they made a Cruella live action to turn her into a girlboss?! The literal animal abuser!? THAT'S the woman you wanted to put on a pedestal when Perdita was RIGHT THERE!?
Duchess kept her kittens calm after they had been catnapped and was classy as heck. Nice to everyone regardless of social class during a time period where that was uncommon.
Lady stood up to Tramp when she believed he had abandoned her and didn't really care about her. She found out he was a heartbreaker and was like, "Nuh uh. No. You are not doing that to me! You put me through enough."
Miss Bianca from The Rescuers was IN CHARGE the whole movie, and was willing to risk life and limb to save an innocent child. THAT TINY MOUSE TOOK ON ALLIGATORS! And she picked Bernard to accompany her because he was the only one who wasn't ogling her. And then in the sequel SHE DID IT ALL AGAIN! I wish I were as brave as her.
Like, the public haven't accused these ladies of being sexist caricatures since 2014 (Actresses and actors don't count, they're out of touch like the rest of Hollywood) yet Disney is operating under the assumption that the public still thinks that way, hence all the "sHe'S nOt AfTeR a MaN iN ThIs VeRsIOn" talk.
The live action remakes are trying to attract an audience that doesn't really exist much, anymore, and back when it did exist, was comprised mainly of people who didn't actually watch the films. The Disney princesses are no longer seen as sexist, and feminine qualities are no longer seen as weak or undesirable.

Songs I think characters should sing in TOH:
Principal Bump singing a parody of “I’ll make a man (witch) out of you” to Luz when she first started attending Hexside.
The music video starts off like the actual scene: Luz and some of the other Hexside students badly doing magic until Luz finally learns how to make an abomination or illusion or something and all of a sudden, she’s one of the strongest witches in the school
Literally all of the TOH characters singing a parody of “We don’t talk about Bruno”, but it’s about Belos.
That, OR all the adult characters sing said parody about Faust to Luz
Everyone singing a song about doing a spinoff show after TOH ends (like the Muppets did in Muppets Most Wanted)
Okay hear me out…..Boiling Isles Karaoke event with Terra, Adrian, and Hettie singing “I put a spell on you”
Speaking of Terra singing, she needs to sing at least ONE song from Little Shop of Horrors

Rick Riordan’s response to the racism and hatred directed at Leah after she was cast as Annabeth:
“Leah Jeffries is Annabeth Chase”
“This post is specifically for those who have a problem with the casting of Leah Jeffries as Annabeth Chase. It’s a shame such posts need to be written, but they do. First, let me be clear I am speaking here only for myself. These thoughts are mine alone. They do not necessarily reflect or represent the opinions of any part of Disney, the TV show, the production team, or the Jeffries family.
The response to the casting of Leah has been overwhelmingly positive and joyous, as it should be. Leah brings so much energy and enthusiasm to this role, so much of Annabeth’s strength. She will be a role model for new generations of girls who will see in her the kind hero they want to be.
If you have a problem with this casting, however, take it up with me. You have no one else to blame. Whatever else you take from this post, we should be able to agree that bullying and harassing a child online is inexcusably wrong. As strong as Leah is, as much as we have discussed the potential for this kind of reaction and the intense pressure this role will bring, the negative comments she has received online are out of line. They need to stop. Now.
I was quite clear a year ago, when we announced our first open casting, that we would be following Disney’s company policy on nondiscrimination: We are committed to diverse, inclusive casting. For every role, please submit qualified performers, without regard to disability, gender, race and ethnicity, age, color, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity or any other basis prohibited by law. We did that. The casting process was long, intense, massive and exhaustive.
I have been clear, as the author, that I was looking for the best actors to inhabit and bring to life the personalities of these characters, and that physical appearance was secondary for me. We did that.  We took a year to do this process thoroughly and find the best of the best. This trio is the best. Leah Jeffries is Annabeth Chase.
Some of you have apparently felt offended or exasperated when your objections are called out online as racist. “But I am not racist,” you say. “It is not racist to want an actor who is accurate to the book’s description of the character!”
Let’s examine that statement.
You are upset/disappointed/frustrated/angry because a Black actor has been cast to play a character who was described as white in the books. “She doesn’t look the way I always imagined.”
You either are not aware, or have dismissed, Leah’s years of hard work honing her craft, her talent, her tenacity, her focus, her screen presence. You refuse to believe her selection could have been based on merit. Without having seen her play the part, you have pre-judged her (pre + judge = prejudice) and decided she must have been hired simply to fill a quota or tick a diversity box. And by the way, these criticisms have come from across the political spectrum, right and left.
You have decided that I couldn’t possibly mean what I have always said: That the true nature of the character lies in their personality. You feel I must have been coerced, brainwashed, bribed, threatened, whatever, or I as a white male author never would have chosen a Black actor for the part of this canonically white girl.
You refuse to believe me, the guy who wrote the books and created these characters, when I say that these actors are perfect for the roles because of the talent they bring and the way they used their auditions to expand, improve and electrify the lines they were given. Once you see Leah as Annabeth, she will become exactly the way you imagine Annabeth, assuming you give her that chance, but you refuse to credit that this may be true.
You are judging her appropriateness for this role solely and exclusively on how she looks. She is a Black girl playing someone who was described in the books as white.
Friends, that is racism.
And before you resort to the old kneejerk reaction — “I am not racist!” — let’s examine that statement too.
If I may quote from an excellent recent article in the Boston Globe about Dr. Khama Ennis, who created a program on implicit bias for the Massachusetts Board of Registration for Medicine in Boston: “To say a person doesn’t have bias is to say that person isn’t human. It’s how we navigate the world … based on what we’re taught and our own personal histories.”
Racism/colorism isn’t something we have or don’t have. I have it. You have it. We all do. And not just white people like me. All people. It’s either something we recognize and try to work on, or it’s something we deny. Saying “I am not racist!” is simply declaring that you deny your own biases and refuse to work on them.
The core message of Percy Jackson has always been that difference is strength. There is power in plurality. The things that distinguish us from one another are often our marks of individual greatness. You should never judge someone by how well they fit your preconceived notions. That neurodivergent kid who has failed out of six schools, for instance, may well be the son of Poseidon. Anyone can be a hero.
If you don’t get that, if you’re still upset about the casting of this marvelous trio, then it doesn’t matter how many times you have read the books. You didn’t learn anything from them.
Watch the show or don’t. That’s your call. But this will be an adaptation that I am proud of, and which fully honors the spirit of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, taking the bedtime story I told my son twenty years ago to make him feel better about being neurodivergent, and improving on it so that kids all over the world can continue to see themselves as heroes at Camp Half-Blood.”

something about being abby's cool, girly babysitter (and eventually mike's gf hehe) is just so personal to me
idk just like imagine mike hires you, sheepishly telling you he can't really pay you yet, and you just smile and tell him not to worry. you can always pick up shifts at your dad's office if you need.
you show up your first day in low rise baggy jeans, a bedazzled tank top, leather jacket, and chunky sneakers. your nails are done in french tips, you have lip gloss slathered on your lips, and silver hoops dangling from your ears. abby is immediately drawn to how cool you look, and mike is lovestruck.
from then on you nearly become abby's big sister. she loves spending time with you. you'll take her for drives, playing 90s hip hop and britney and even some hole and alanis morrisette. sometimes when mike works late, he comes home to find you asleep on the couch, abby and you snuggled up, watching the end of a disney movie. it warms his heart. you also sometimes let abby try your sparkly lipgloss, but never letting her overdo it. you tell her she's too young for it, but you do give in and buy her a couple lip smackers tubes and roll-on flavored lipgloss.
mike loves how much you take care of abby, but feels guilty he can't pay you the way he should. you don't mind. you love hanging out with abby.
she does, however, feel slightly betrayed when she walks into mike's room in the morning, you asleep on his bed, asking why she wasn't invited to their slumber party and demanding they have one that night too.
