how to watch the 2005 reboot of doctor who in the correct order (more or less)

i couldn't find a good enough list for my friend, so i made my own using everything i could find! i put all of the sources i used at the end of the doc.

many articles skip certain mini-episodes and specials. lists that show up on google can be intimidating and confusing, or lackluster, so i tried to make it comprehensive and pretty!

i also took the time to find the best links for everything not on bbc iplayer!

it could save beginner viewers so much frustration and ensure that they actually get to see these wonderful mini-episodes!

i didn't include classic who or anything outside the realm of official/official-adjacent video because i'm not really qualified to and it's outside the scope of this particular list.

some of the decisions for the order and for what was included/excluded are my own informed opinions, but feel free to disagree and i'll change things if i'm convinced! it's not technically chronological or even perfectly by release, but that goes out the window with a time travel show on this scale! this is the order that makes the most sense. also, i didn't add the release years of things because it would've been too confusing with the sheer amount of stuff.

Mine: A short drabble, l don't even know.

His Death: You get kidnapped and the Doctor gets shot. You both think the other is dead, but things work out very well.

Asleep on His Shoulder: You fall asleep in his shoulder on a bus.

Asleep on the Transport: You fall asleep on his shoulder.

Sister: Rose and you talk about your past and your future.

Warmth: After an adventure where you almost died, the Doctor and you have a cuddle.

Joint Sleepover: After you have a nightmare, you have a sleepover with Rose and later the Doctor joins you.

Help Him: You have powers of time and space travel. When the Doctor and you are caught in a deadly situation you blindly transport both of you out.

Dissing the Time Lords: l (or anyone who whishes to) yell at Rassilon and the High Council in the second person, first about trying to end time and becoming creatures of pure thought, and second about initiating Time Lord children by making them look into the Time Vortex. They had it coming.

After the End (Comes the Beginning): Christmas bride rewrite. The Doctor and you cope with the loss of Rose and meet Donna.

Meeting Martha: S3E1 Smith and Jones rewrite. The Doctor and you meet Martha and defeat the Plazmavore Florence.

The Shakespeare Code: S3E2 The shakespeare code rewrite. The Doctor, Martha and you meet Shakespeare and battle witches.

Gridlock: S3E3 Gridlock rewrite. The Doctor, Martha and you find yourselves in New New York. When Martha is kidnapped, the Doctor and you have to find out what's wrong with the city's motorway.

Daleks in Manhattan: S3E6 Daleks in Manhattan rewrite. The end of the episode didn't sit right with me, so l wrote my own.

42: S3E7 42 rewrite. The Doctor, Martha and you find yourselves on a ship that's about to crash into the sun. And if that weren't enough, one of the crew has been infected by something that made him turn into a murderer.

Silence in the Library, Forest of the dead: rewrite of S4e7 and S4e8. No romantic Doctor x River, l'm sorry. The Doctor, Donna and you find yourselves in the biggest library in the universe. You meet a woman called River Song, and then the shadows turn against you.

Sick: The Doctor and you find yourselves on a spaceship in desparate need of repair and you are determined to help the crew (Kaisa, Lincoln and Bressa), but then the ship also gets highjacked. And on top of that, you fall sick.

The Bar: Jack, the Doctor and you go to a bar. You are drugged and a man tries to take you but the Doctor luckily intervenes in time.

Come Hold Me as l Sleep: You seek the Doctor out in the middle of the night and you fall asleep together.

Bruised: You are slapped by one of the guards of the prison you're in and the Doctor reacts to it when you see him as you escape.

A Leaf: The Doctor is tall. There's a leaf in his hair. Something finally happens.

Nothing Serious: You discover you were shot. That's it.

Soft Mornings: The Doctor wakes up after a sleepover.

This Time Around: You crash at UNIT headquarters in 1980 (ish) after an adventure goes wrong with the tenth Doctor, whom you married in both the human and Time Lord sense. I think Doctor Who is trying to be marvel and that's why (among other things) was that the last seasons were not good, and Loki was better DW at moments than the last seasons of the actual show. I guess that to deal with the shit that chibnal did they will gonna make a reboot and the new doctor who is gonna happen in other universe or some other mavel shit like that that we didn't needed nor asked for. They should just had to make a retcon and being from were the twelfth doctor era ended.

Tim and Dick both love Doctor Who and bond over it a lot.

Dick is a Star Wars fan while Tim is a Star Trek fan. They butt heads about it occasionally.

Dick stans R2-D2. Tim stans Kirk (and maybe has a crush on him).

(…okay, Dick 100% had a crush on Leia. and dressed up as Han for Halloween once. or several times.)

Meanwhile, Jason’s vibing with Back to the Future and Lost in Space (and the book The Little Prince).

Dick loves the Avatar movies while Jason loves Avatar the Last Airbender. (Jason gives him shit a lot for them having stolen the name.)

it’s so funny reading through the edas where the 8th doctor is this endlessly complex and magical figure whose intentions you can never quite parse before going to one of the later big finish audio boxsets like stranded where they flattened his characterization like a bug

Nothing Serious

Relationship: the Doctor x reader (l wrote this with Three in mind but you can imagine any Doctor you like, l wasn't specific)

Summary: You discover you were shot. That's it.

Warnings: description of wounds (you were shot)

Author's notes: l'm working on the story with Three l mentioned in my last post and l promise l'm doing everything l can to post a chapter as soon as possible. The thing is, l'm using two concepts another Doctor Who author came up with and l'm waiting on their permission to use them (they haven't responded to my message in quite a long time, l'm honestly not sure what to do).

This came out in like fifteen minutes, l went what the hell and l'm posting it to give you guys something. It's angst w/o much else, l'm not particularly optimistic right now. Here you go.

"Hng," a stifled whimper escaped you as your fingers brushed your side under your jacket and everyone's heads snapped to you.

This was bad, really, really bad. Now that you'd seen the wound steadily oozing blood on the left of your stomack, it was impossible to ignore the flare of searing pain that made your breath hitch if you moved a single muscle. It was impressive that you were still standing, the dizziness that took hold of your mind made the floor tilt.

"Y/n?" the Doctor's voice was soft but relentless in its quiery and your head snapped up.

"Don't be mad," fell out of your mouth before you could stop it as your other hand shakily gestured downwards for all of them to stay calm. Shit, your eyes were watering from the strain, blurring your sight, and you grit your teeth. "There's just, uh," you swallowed thickly and closed your eyes for a moment, then your gaze flickered to your stomack, "something l need to show y-"

The Doctor was approaching you at a truly impressive speed.

"It's not a big deal," voice breathy and strained, you tried to calm him before he got close enough to touch you and see, "l just got shot a little-"

"You were shot?!?!" he almost shouted as one of his franctic hands took hold of your shoulder and the other carefully pried away the left side of your jacket you were clutching in your trembling grip.

"Don't yell at me," your temper rose in turn as you struggled to breathe from the pain, "it's not like l asked for i-AGH!" Agony flared through your nerves like wildfire that wiped everything away. He'd tried to lift your shirt to see the damage and pressed just a little too hard.

Stars. You were seeing stars, little bright fireflies dancing in the room that swayed under your feet. Pretty.

"... -need to ge- ... -nfirmary-" Someone was talking, you were sure, but the cotton in your brain refused to recognize the words. You couldn't remember what was wrong, you knew there had been pain, but everything was so far away...

"Y/n? Y/n!"

Someone was calling your name with sharp desparation in their voice and you'd have given anything to calm them. A gentle hand was on your cheek and another on your back, trying to keep your wobbling form upright.

"Hmm?" your mouth mumbled as you struggled to distinguish the hazy shapes before you. Funny, the whole thing was... going dark, shadows, swallowing you up...

At the end of the day, there is a reason 10's face came back, and that is literally just to say goodbye to NuWho. The 15th Doctor is a complete reboot, RTD has said it himself. But coming from a character standpoint, there was reasoning for it. 14 still had all of 10's qualities. Now, he wasn't as cold as 10, he was more open and not afraid to be affectionate, but even then he still carried the same amount of shame on his shoulders and tortured himself with his trauma. To be honest, 14 seemed tired.

Bumbling about the internet, I have seen people bring up the Metacrisis Doctor when it comes to this finale, but the difference between this bi-generation and the metacrisis was the fact that the metacrisis was a two way thing. Donna became a Time Lord and the version of him that came from both Donna and 10's hand is completely human with quite a bit of her personality in him, and the bi-generation is literally just two of the exact same Time Lords. And that's it.

And to be honest, in some ways 10 wanted to have his cake and eat it. A part of him wanted to settle down and also be a Time Lord, because let's face it, he'd never be able to say goodbye to that life he's lived for all those many years, he even said that when Donna and 15 told him to let go and he was scared. And more proof of that was in series 2's School Reunion episode (which is one of my all time favourites) when Rose confronted him on why he never mentioned Sarah Jane, and then later on in the series finale of 4 where he and DoctorDonna leave the Metacrisis Doctor behind with Rose. He loved Rose, always had, but he knew it would break his heart to see her grow old and die, so really the Metacrisis Doctor got to have his happy end because he was human.

I think 15 was the part of the Doctor that still had the urge to keep going and wanted to be finally free from the pain of the past. Every Doctor has their own personalities and ways of coping with things, and I think 15 just wants to be carefree and happy and that's just what I get from the trailer for Christmas special where he is literally in a club dancing so freely... something we've never seen from the Doctor before.

I won't lie though, I don't understand the issue with it being Donna he gets to have that happy end with. He couldn't have it with Martha, she has Mickey and her family, Sarah Jane has been dead for a long time, he never got to truly know the Bannerman Road Gang, and Jack is out there doing things with Torchwood, so he couldn't have gone with any of them either, and the rest of the companions in NuWho are pretty much dead. So, why not Donna?

It's said by quite a few characters during the 10th Doctor era that he never stays, and he'll even admit multiple times he'll keep on running. And after losing Rose, we all saw how he just ran faster and grew darker. Martha gave him a phone so she could keep in contact with him, and what did he do? He denied the fact that he even had a phone when it rang and Donna asked questions about it. And let's face it, if the universe hadn't pulled him and Donna together for them to meet again, he would never have seen her again after the Racnoss. She offered him Christmas dinner with her and her family and he just didn't.

Overall, every companion of 10's all have their happy ends except for her. Yes, Donna has a family and she loves them dearly, but for those 15 years she felt that something was missing. So, she didn't really get a happy end because she had no closure and it plagued her and her family. But now here she is and 14 here is, happy because they both have closure. So, I don't know... It just seems rather fitting to me.

At the end of the day, this whole thing was just finally letting this face of the Doctor, this version of himself who's most damaged and tired, just be happy.
