a calm surrender to the rush of day
Jake’s had a few too many beers when he’s sent back home to Amy and his still relatively new son. It’s all good and cute, promise. Peak domestic Peraltiago. This oneshot is based on a prompt on this list.
#98: "I think we should have another"
Read on AO3 here
Amy was fast asleep in their bedroom when the sudden sound of the front door lock clicking and shifting followed by a half-hearted slam jolted her awake. For a very brief second, with her heart galloping in her chest as a result of the shock, Amy was utterly disoriented and the uneasy feeling was definitely not peculiar when you happened to live in a city that was ranked way too high on the Top 10 Most Dangerous Cities in America – a club she did not particularly enjoy being a part of. Although, as fast as it had encased her body to begin with, the shock quickly wore off the second she heard shifting and rumbling paired with a “shit” coming from what she figured out must’ve been the living room.
Jake, she realized, suddenly remembering why he wasn’t currently beside her in bed but rather out with some friends from the academy – or, at least, was.
In an attempt to put the final puzzle pieces in place she leaned over to grab her phone wondering how long he’d out and about for. The time revealed itself across her lock screen picture of Jake, fast asleep on their couch a few days after their son’s arrival with said son resting beneath his hands and on his chest. 3:11 AM – no wonder why she could barely keep her eyes open. There was a second of wondering if she should just turn over, go back to sleep and let Jake come join her whenever he was ready, but something else on the screen caught her eye before she could ultimately decide on doing so: 3 texts from Rosa with the last being from around 30 minutes prior.
Rosa Diaz – 12:39 PM Dude, Jake is horrible. He won’t shut up about you and the baby and for some reason the other guys from the academy seem to be eating it up. I hate it. What have you done to him?
Rosa Diaz – 1:56 AM Nvm. I take it back. He just paid a second round of beers to celebrate, and I quote, “His miracle baby”. Please get pregnant more. Means more free booze.
Rosa Diaz – 2:47 AM Def spoke too soon. He just threw up at my feet. We’re waiting outside the bar for his cab. I’m sending him home to you. Texts me when he gets there. Also: good luck lol. He’s stupid drunk.
Almost as if Jake had read the text as well, as to emphasize its point, Amy could hear him stumble into the bathroom across the hall to, what she chose to believe, grab his toothbrush but instead knocking over the glass holding it generating a loud commotion which tore throughout the entire apartment.
Amy’s head immediately as per instinct shot in the direction of her 3-month old’s crib, which stood against the wall on her side just a few feet away. Apart from the limited amount of Catholic traditions she’d grown up with living with her parents she wasn’t particularly religious, but right then and there she internally prayed that her son, who she’d spent an hour getting back to sleep just 3 hours ago, wasn’t woken up by her father’s drunken circus. She held her breath as a few, way too long seconds went by: no cry. Amy’s chest dropped in relief.
Moments like these were tiny victories that she as a brand new first-time mom held onto for dear life. In general, though she had nothing to compare to, her little boy wasn’t a particularly difficult baby but the past few days had been a bit rough on the little family: rough to the point where Amy had to push Jake out the door earlier that evening because he didn’t want to leave her behind with a fussy baby. But, more than ever before, Amy was confident, telling him it would be a waste for him to stay home and miss out on some fun; he should go out and she’d be fine. He’d ended up going. Although it was borderline against his will with half-worried eyes that Jake had crossed the threshold to exit their apartment, while repeating over and over again that she could and should call him if things turned out to be too much: he’d grab the first cab he saw back home.
Amy loved this considerate and worried side of Jake but it also turned out to be quiet unnecessary that night. Besides the hour from hell of fussiness at midnight, the evening alone with her son had gone by pretty smoothly – she’d actually made quite an enjoyable experience out of it. First of all, right after he’d had left, Amy ate the dinner Jake had prepared for her in advance on the couch with Flynn lying next to her in his little nest, talking and admiring his small sounds and smiles. God, she loved him so much and there was no TV-show or movie in the world that could beat the incredible sight of her son clumsily waving around his tiny legs and arms in his green pajama-onesie. Then, after bathing and changing him, she’d fed him to make sure he was completely ready for bed and by 8 PM she was silently smiling down at, admiring, her very own tiny sleeping human as he dozed off in his crib. Losing track of time was incredibly easy these days, both from the lack of sleep but also the huge amount of love for said little human, but after making sure (for the 32nd time) that Flynn was well asleep Amy had, trusty baby monitor in hand, retreated to the living room. There, with a tiny glass of white wine in hand, she’d managed to finish today’s The Times’ crossword puzzle - something Flynn had interrupted a couple of times that day – before she’d felt an inevitable wave of tiredness creep up on her. Once ready, having gone through her own routine plus checking up on the, to her pride and joy, still sleeping baby, Amy went to bed where she’d slept peacefully until her son had claimed her attention a few hours later. So even though Jake was her favorite person to hang out with, her evening had been great and, all in all, she wouldn’t mind doing it again
Now here she was once again awake although this time it was not her baby causing the distraction from sleeping but rather her apparently very drunk husband stumbling around the bathroom. The fact that he hadn’t been loud enough to wake up their son had probably (for sure) helped, but also, Amy couldn’t be mad at Jake when she’d been the one to basically force him to go out and have fun. So, after giving up on falling back asleep figuring it’d be hopeless with Jake stumbling around the apartment, she instead took matters into her own hands and made her way to the bathroom. Here, to her amusement, the sight of her rather nicely dressed husband, unruly curls spilling onto his forehead, was barely able to stay awake and standing upright while brushing his teeth.
“Hey there,” she leaned her hip against the door frame before crossing her arms in front of her chest adding to it a teasing smile.
“Oh god!” from the way he almost choked on his tooth brush, Jake was obviously startled by her sudden appearance but quickly avoided choking with a sad attempt at smooth recovery by clumsily spitting the toothpaste into the sink getting it all over his lips in the process.  “I’m szo szo szorry,” the words tumbled from his mouth much like she imagined he’d tripped and fallen over various furniture and items on his way into the apartment just a few moments ago. “Dridn’t mean tro wake you.”
“Well…” she shrugged nonchalantly not really minding mostly because drunk Jake was a hilarious mess she’d missed during their pregnancy, but also partly because she knew he’d be paying the painful price in the morning. “You did.”
Immediately, as if he was a puppy whose tail had just accidentally been stepped on, Jake’s previously insouciant demeanor switched into a intoxicated version of his famous worried frown. Though the second she could tell panic was forming in his drunkenly fatigued eyes, she was quick to step in and avoid guilting him.
“But it’s okay,” her tired but nonetheless somehow always warm eyes worked their best to comfort him, hip nudging her off the doorframe and into a short journey to where her husband had shifted into a leaning position with his back against the sink, toothbrush desperately hanging from the left side of his mouth. His eyes, though dazed and barely able to stay open, followed her every move towards him closely but he was still startled when she’d come close enough for him to feel her breath on him and had sassily snagged the dangling toothbrush out of his mouth (careful to not hurt him in the process, of course).
“As long as you don’t wake up your son,” she raised an eyebrow daringly only to be met by a shocked expression that told her he still wasn’t entirely over that bold toothbrush-move of hers, and was just barely managing to listen to what she was saying solely because of the mention of Flynn. He knew that the baby was an angel (duh, he was his and Amy’s creation) yet Jake was also very much in touch with reality which was that said son also hadn’t managed to sleep through the night yet (which according to his go-to parenting book Cry Hard was normal). Therefor even drunk Jake also knew that every second his son was asleep was to be handled as carefully as you would a bomb, and the mention of him possibly waking him up was enough to sober him up – or at the very least have him feel like it for a second.
“Luckily,” Amy proceeded, placing her hands on his chest before sliding them up to rest on his shoulders, “you didn’t.”
Paired with a heavy sigh, as if he’d been holding his breath in suspense, she instantly felt his shoulders drop in relief. Needless to say that Amy loved the way her husband cared greatly about his new father-role. Sometimes to the point where Jake, very unnecessarily, would push himself down an endless rabbit hole of doubt, where he, Amy had come to find out relatively early on, could only be calmed down by her ordering him to go lie down and so she could place tiny Flynn on his (incredible) father’s chest. Only then, with his son looking up at him with curious brown eyes or even just being fast asleep, Jake could feel his heart rate slow down significantly and the anxiety fade. His son was here on his chest, tiny heartbeat against his big one and they were both okay. It was love and that was all that mattered.
So yes, Jake’s father-role was very important to both him and her, but for tonight, Amy quickly decided, Jake was allowed to be just drunk-Jake. She had no problem taking full responsibility for Flynn-duty that night, and, even though neither of them kept scores or cared about the unspoken tally, she also knew Jake would make it up to her another night.
“So Flynni iz ztill azleep?” Jake whispered loudly not actually managing to control his voice as intended. His sluggish, wondering eyes reminded Amy of the look on her milk-drunk 3-month old’s face right after a feeding which made it even more obvious that Flynn Peralta was very much her father’s son and would grow up to be an exact copy.
“Yes, Flynni,” she giggled emphasizing the nickname her husband had come up with, “is still very much asleep. But he won’t be for much longer if you don’t quiet down,” her hands slid up Jake’s neck to cradle his jaw, his tooth brush still in her hand.
“Zorry,” he smiled sheepishly actually managing to whisper this time. “You’re ze bestest mom in ze attire world, Amy Zantriago.”
“Hm,” she squinted her eyes jokingly, “maybe I should just put back that tooth brush because now you’re just talking crazy.”
“Nooo,” the whine that escaped her husband was childish as he simultaneously pulled her in for a clumsy, giggly kiss that’d cover her mouth in his toothpaste remains – unsurprisingly, drunk-Jake was not a very precise tooth brusher and had a toddler’s amount of basic skills. “Ze only crayzay here is me. Crayazay ‘bout my WIFE!” unable to control himself he half-yelled out the last word causing Amy to make a quick decision and shove the toothbrush back into his mouth. This, besides yet another surprised and confused expression greeting her, seemed to work and would hopefully keep him quiet till he made it to bed where he could pass out.
“Hush, Peralta,” and he immediately did. He knew his always very convincing wife only had good intentions (which making sure their son stayed asleep ultimately was) and whilst she picked up where he’d left of to finish brushing his teeth for him he, like the inner toddler the alcohol ignited in him, stayed put against the sink.
A few minutes later, still managing to stay somewhat silent (apart from constantly trying to whisper sweet nothings and stupidities into her ear meanwhile she struggled to brush his teeth and wash his face) Amy lead Jake to their bedroom which, for once, was for unsexy reasonz (with a z, yes). Immediately as soon as it was within what his drunk brain considered a safe distance, Jake’s body caved and dropped to the soft welcoming surface of their bed. Amy quickly figured that it was probably for the best and she should take advantage of Jake finally staying still, meaning she carefully started undressing him, and it had seemed that he was passed out right up until she popped the third button of his flannel and his eyes shot open along with a sneaky smirk.
“Amez, Iz tonight zhe night that we become PILFs?”
Amy frowned as she reached the last button and then pushed the flannel off of his torso. “PILFs?” She wordlessly prompted him to sit up as to allow her to remove the flannel entirely only to be followed by his undershirt being lifted off via his head – something she’d done a million times before but most cases being for other reasons.
“Parentz I’d Like To Frick,” he smiled in appreciation at his own genius invention before stealing a kiss when Amy happened to be close enough to reach by simply leaning in a bit. It did earn him a small giggle like he wished but then also a light shove back.
“Stop that and help me instead, would you?” She was far from mad at him which he could tell from the way she couldn’t keep an entirely straight face but on the other side of things Amy clearly wasn’t having the easiest time undressing her full grown husband either. Suddenly the task that was changing Flynn 7 times a day was put into a quite interesting perspective: a perspective she didn’t necessarily need.
And so, feeling that his wife was doing all the hard work, he helped. It might’ve taken him 5 minutes to pop open and zip down his jeans, but he succeeded and it was with way too much pride that he kicked his jeans off in a madman-ninja manner which resulted in them flying across the room to touchdown by the door. Normally Amy would demand he put them in the laundry bin but for once she couldn’t care less. The pants being off itself was a great victory.
“Nicely done, babe,” she joked trying to ignore the fact that 3 simple tasks had taken them almost 40 minutes by now, prompting her to playfully throw his night shirt in way so it landed on his head. “Now put that on and you’re good to pass out for the night.”
She walked back over to her side of the bed, throwing in a glance at Flynn in his crib to make sure he was still well and asleep, before crawling back under the covers and pushing the part on Jake’s side aside to invite him in.
It was a matter of seconds before he dropped into place but instead of passing out immediately as Amy had expected him to, her husband shuffled across the bed’s invisible center line wordlessly asking for snuggles that Amy, of course, couldn’t decline. She loved that Jake went out and had some fun by himself, although, at the end of the day, nothing would ever beat having him home with her – even if it meant dealing with an all at once incapable and horny man child.
So, by all means, she lifted her arm to welcome him to make himself at home under it, felt his head moving to on top of her chest, before she put it back down in a soft grip around his shoulders. His free arm would then soon enough wrap around her middle earning him a soft peck to the forehead.
“I love you, Amz,” he mumbled tiredly into her shirt.
“I love you too, Jake,” she smiled leaning her cheek against where she’d just planted the kiss.
“And I love our baby. Zo much. I mizzed him all ze night,” he mumbled on the verge of falling asleep.
And while she always did expect it these days, right then and there when she very honestly in the moment least did expect it, a loud cry as if scripted, tore through the darkness of their bedroom. A small sigh escaped her body although she was couldn’t help but smile at the irony of the situation.
“… Sounds like he missed you too, babe.”
“Oh no,” Jake whined basically imitating Flynn to a point where it was scary as Amy scooted out from his snuggle and the newfound warmth of their bed. “I woke him up. I’m zo zo sorry.”
In the meantime Amy had made her way to the crib.
“You didn’t wake him up, honey,” she made sure to reassure Jake of the fact before picking up the tiny crying figure before promptly looking at the time on her night stand, where her suspicion was immediately proved to be right. “It’s 4 AM: he’s just hungry.”
Not many things in this world were sure or certain, but if there was one thing that was then it was definitely Amy’s knowledge when it came to her son’s schedule. Yes, Jake got up with Flynn just as frequently as she did, but contrary to her, Jake didn’t take note of the time and just did what his son demanded without interest in cracking the code to their baby’s life-pattern: as long as he got to care for him and make him happy again, the logistics were somewhat irrelevant to Jake.
“You sure?” he complained nervously questioning his wife as she sat back down in bed with Flynn cradled to her chest.
“Yes, completely.”
With her always being right and all, Jake settled for accepting his wife’s statement quieting down to take in the sight of their son fumbling to find where his mother had lifted up her shirt in order to feed him. Seconds later, like the peace that followed after a huge sky-cracking thunderstorm, silence settled upon the family of three letting the two adult of said family know that Flynn had once again worked out how to still his hunger. Apart from the very faint sounds of suckling, the occasional little pop followed by a wail when he’d lose his mouthful and complain until Amy managed to help him back on track, idyllic silence of the night wrapped up the apartment as if Jake had never interrupted it just an hour prior.
It was in moments like these where Jake became untouchable, completely disregarding any physical or mental state he might be in, and simply gave in to soaking in the faultless felicity parenthood provided him with. He’d never been anything but happy with Amy but this life he’d been living for 3 months now was even better and beyond any imaginable expectations he’d had. Flynn, though being the one who was completely dependent on his father’s care, had given Jake life a renewed meaning he hadn’t known or felt close to before. A meaning he’d originally been so afraid of even considering before he met Amy but had come to realize he wanted with her and only her.
He wanted 4 AM cries. He wanted the sight of Amy, depending on what her energy level was, either dozing off to or actively admiring their son latching onto her swelled chest as he suckled on it. He wanted the rush of pride every time Flynn made a new sound even if it was simply bringing into existence a new pitch when he squealed or whimpered. Jake wanted all and everything, big and small, as long as it was with them.
So of course, as soon as Flynn was placed stomach down on Amy’s chest after being done eating and burped, earning himself a sweet praise when he succeeded, Jake was back to snuggling into his wife’s side. There was no minding sharing her chest with the tiny human as it provided Jake with the perfect combination of cuddling with his wife and the incredible sight of their stupefying son slipping back into a peaceful state of sleepy satisfaction.
“He’s sro prerfect, Amy.”
“I know, babe,” with a hand safely cradling and stroking the back of Flynn’s decently hairy head she mumbled her reply obviously in the early stages of dozing off herself. The other hand, this arm having returned to its spot around Jake, was resting against her husband’s back stroking it in a synchronized motion.
“Like, he’z like getting ze one exact toy you wanted ze mostest in your Happy Meal as a child.”
She would laugh out loud at his comparison, finding it incredibly endearing, but she was by then too exhausted and only managed to form a tired smile – also the laughing would cause her chest and then automatically Flynn to quiver which she was not about to dare.
“He really is,” she mumbled.
“I think we shrould have anozer.”
It was easy to tell that the comment was partly genuine and sweet but also partly… intoxicated. Though Amy didn’t doubt the fact that Jake wouldn’t mind more children, she also didn’t doubt the fact that he definitely wouldn’t remember this conversation when he woke up some hours later with a hammering headache and zombie-like state of mind.
“I think I have enough on my hands with you two.”
Yes, she did see them having at least two kids but one newborn was definitely more than enough at the moment, plus  they had plenty of time to consider further additions to the family once Flynn would be older and Jake not completely wasted. Although it was nice to hear some truth about his inner thoughts spill from her drunk husband, there was no doubt in her mind that there was no need to hurry. They would get there eventually and for now they were already so very happy.
She was pulled out of her thoughts by the feeling of Jake’s lips planting a soft, half-sloppy kiss to, first, their son’s head, then, then her neck. Then small movements beneath her hand on Flynn was next, quickly peaking her curiosity and winning over her exhaustion then forcing herself to open her eyes. Immediately feeling glad she did so because she was met by the most heartwarming sight of Jake carefully caressing Flynn’s tiny feet.
“We’re gunna make zo many perfect bebiez, Amy Trivago. Zo many. Like zis one.”
“I’m sure of it, babe,” she gave into one last tired chuckle hoping agreeing would give him the peace he needed to fall asleep. And besides the fact his fingers continuously toyed with the tiny feet, Jake seemed fast asleep a few moments later leaving Amy to soak in the moment, fighting to stay awake just a few more minutes to enjoy how incredibly lucky she was.
There was indeed nothing better than feeling her two favorite boys’ heartbeats against her skin as she herself dove into a deep sleep.

Wishing I could read something about Peraltiago talking about how they feel on all Teddy's proposals to Amy. They are really akward, uncomfortable moments and Teddy really crosses the limits every single time, and wish we knew more on their takes about it. Once I read a fic about Jake sending Rosa to stop Teddy and take care of Amy but it just not the same.
lol I have a fic on that topic exactly - I have a proposal for you - where I had the cathartic experience of writing about Rosa breaking Teddy’s hand for being so awful, but I agree with you, Teddy reappearing in the show is so uncomfortable each time ugggh. I thought the wedding one was the worst but then he shows up literally fathering a child with someone else and still does it, disgusting.
So maybe take this as taking place before that fic of mine, where Jake does mention how bad Teddy's proposals make them feel!
Tumblr media
Jake can tell, just from the simple drop of her purse in the hallway, that it wasn't a good day.
Weird, how it's these tiny things that he's learned to read instantly - or maybe not, given that he's a detective trained to focus on details others would overlook, and being unable to stop the habit when it comes to the most important people in his life.
She tries to be all smiles when she comes into the living room, though, where Mac is happily rolling around in his playpen while Jake is folding laundry on the couch, the very picture of domesticity as she leans over the pen to kiss their squealing, giggling little baby. The view of her in one of her old pantsuits instead of her Sergeant's uniform is already making his hearts do little leaps even before she makes her way over to Jake for their customary Welcome Home kiss.
"How was that inter-department meeting today?" He asks as she shrugs off the suit jacket and continues her pace into the kitchen, setting aside a set of Mac's bibs that can't be folded anyway.
"Okay." She replies, and that's enough to make him abandon the laundry alltogether and follow her (one eye on Mac, of course, but he's not even crawling yet, and couldn't roll himself into any danger on his foam-based playmat - probably). It's rare that she doesn't have at least one inspiring, 'interesting' or just generally informative story to share from her meetings, the only person in probably all departments looking forward to them.
She's staring into the fridge when he reaches the room and leans against the counter, trying to gauge her level of upset. From the raised shoulders and the fact that she doesn't need to check the fridge to know they were going to order Chinese tonight, he guesses it's at a solid 8, at least.
"Teddy was there." She mumbles into the cold, bright space in front of her, and Jake's shoulders tense up just as much as hers even as he tries to sound as chill as possible.
"How is he?"
"Still extremely boring." Then, after a pause. "Still hung up on me."
So much for chill.
"Did he propose again?"
She nods and sighs, her shoulders dropping as she closes the fridge, but doesn't turn toward him.
"I don't know what's wrong with him." She says through gritted teeth, suddenly. "He has a child with someone. He has a wife. How can he look at them and turn around and-"
Mac's little happy cooing from the living room interrupts her, as do Jake's arms as they wind around her middle, his chin dipping into the space between her shoulder and her neck.
"That's probably a question only a therapist could answer, babe."
Amy sighs as she leans back, falls into the warmth and support of her own husband, the father of her child that she can hear happily babbling to himself from a room over, and wonders some more how Teddy could ever think he would be a better option for her.
"He wasn't like this when we were dating." She muses, and feels Jake's kiss against her jaw - a reflex action she's noticed whenever she mentions a past partner or anything, frankly, that reminds him that there was a point where he wasn't Jake Peralta-Santiago yet. But she kind of needs to finish this thought, and she knows he can handle it. "He was nice and kind and he wouldn't- he wasn't manipulative, pulling something like that in public, or deluded enough to think he was in the right for it. I mean, he thought he was pretty great, but he wouldn't have -"
"You musta broken something pretty major in his brain when you left him." Jake's voice is joking, luckily, but she can sense a hint of something more. "The absolute devastation of a Santiago break-up speech, rehearsed or not."
"Harsh, Jake."
"Remember manbun musician? He went downright insane after your split - not that he was probably the sanest person around before that, but-"
"You promised we'd never mention him again."
"I'm just saying. I don't think any man left by you is going to be completely right in the head after that."
"You're making me sound like some black widow monster." She smiles, though, hearing the awe and affection in his voice bleed through.
"I'm not judging those guys, anyway." He continues, and that tinge of something else in his words is back. "I mean, I can't imagine what I'd be like if you ever decided to take Teddy up on one of his proposals."
She straightens up from her lean on his chest, twists in his arms without breaking the hug, and stares right into him as she studies his face - his actually slightly scared face.
"Jake, you know that's not ever-"
"I was joking babe."
"No. Jake. That's not even an option. Not even an idea. Never. Not in a million years. Not if-"
She grabs his shirt where it's unbuttoned, right next to his heart, and his hand reaches up to squeeze hers like it always does, thumb swiping along her rings.
"I know, Ames." The soft kiss that follows calms her just as much. "I cashed out that jackpot and I'm not giving it back."
She hums as she kisses him again, leans her forehead against his for a deep breath.
"It's just... sad." She returns to her original train of thought. "That he can't move on despite his life doing so. I mean, it's been years. He's got a new job and a new partner and a new baby, and he's willing to, what, dump all that? For me? For that idolised image he probably has in his mind of me now, because nothing between us has been real since ages ago?"
"Wow, this is really bugging you."
"Yes! He's barging into my life and thinking he knows what's best for me and that it's him, like I'm some love-struck silly dreamgirl who's going to drop her entire world because he's romantic enough to go down on one knee in front of our colleagues and superiors who have no idea what's going on-!"
Mac's noises from the next room turn from content to disagreeing, growing into what is sure to be a cry any minute now, and it's the only thing that can make them break apart from their hug. He calms down immediately when Amy lifts him out of his pen, and holds him close while she settles on the sofa next to the half-done laundry basket, snuffling against her chest in a very obvious I’m hungry mom couldn’t you tell?! move before she can even unbutton her dress shirt.
He latches on immediately when her shirt is open and her bra pulled down - not a nursing bra today, considering she got ready for an important work meeting - while she feels Jake rearrange the pillows behind her and to her side to get her comfortable, without a second of hesitation or having to think about it. He moves on to pick up the jacket she's dropped onto a dining room chair, drapes it on a hanger in the hallway, and she feels the soft prick of tears in her eyes before he settles down again next to the two of them with a glass of water for her set on the coffee table.
Jake only hums as he notices the shine in her eyes too, and wipes across her cheek. He knows that nursing can get her into a pretty emotional state sometimes, but this is probably a bit more than that.
"I love you." She says, and barely waits for his return of I love you too to continue. "I can't believe Teddy expects me to look at Mac, and look at you, and still think he could ever be a better offer for anything I want."
"Aw, babe." He grins softly in return while playing with Mac's foot that is kicking in his direction, covered in the fuzziest green socks with red apples on them. "You scored a pretty dope 2-for-1 deal with us, I admit."
“Before that, too.” She insists, leaning to unlatch Mac and hand him over to Jake to burp as they always do while she buttons back up, thinking about Teddy’s many proposals before Mac was even planned on. “Jake, you know that, right? You alone were the best deal first and foremost.”
He smiles at her, Mac’s soft little curls right next to his cheek as he sways and pats his back, but it doesn’t fully reach his eyes.
“Jake-”
“You were happy with him.” He says, quietly, while Mac lets out his usual milky burp and smiles at him much wider when he wipes him clean with the linen cloth pulled from his shoulder. “I know it’s in the past and I - I’m not jealous or anything that stupid, but. Like you said... He wasn’t like this back then, and you were happy.”
His eyes seem forlorn, even as he smiles at the now sleepy baby in his lap that looks so much like him it always makes her heart twinge, that little bundle of joy with Amy’s dark hair and skin that seems to know the Cuban sun without ever having been there.
“And I know it’s not - and it doesn’t make sense to think about, but - sometimes his stupid proposals made me wonder what would’ve happened if he’d done that while he still made you happy.” His voice turns low, and it’s probably not just to avoid waking Mac back up as he falls asleep. “And that just makes me think about how I had to watch you be happy with him, and that’s not - that’s never a good memory to revisit, honestly-”
“I wouldn’t have said yes.” She leans over into his field of vision, the most serious look on her face. “Even back then, I wouldn’t have said yes to his proposal.”
Jake’s eyebrows scrunch up in question, his eyes turning into those puppy dog eyes that she knows as a direct hit to her heart when he’s actually sad or worried, and she can’t not hold his face in her hands again.
“Yes, I was happy with Teddy for a while, but looking back at it I realise I was- there was always this feeling of waiting for something. Hoping for something to be different.” She kisses him, careful and short and barely there, but enough to make him close his eyes and lean towards her a bit more. “And maybe back then I thought I was waiting for him to change somehow, but really I was only waiting for him to change into you.”
“Teddy couldn’t change into me if he had major brain surgery.” Jake scoffs, and Amy huffs a laugh with him.
“Yeah. And that’s why he’d never been right for me. That’s only ever been you.”
He finally, properly smiles now, eyes open again and set on her with a soft shine to them before he leans over more, as much as he can without waking the deeply asleep baby in his lap.
“I’m glad you figured that out when you did, in the end.” He quips and earns himself a shy nod. “And said yes when it came to the only good proposal you got.”
She snickers at that, thinking about the gaudy but wonderful boxing belt in her mementos box, and leans in the last few inches she needs to kiss him again, neither careful nor short this time, but equally as soft.
“And the next time I catch Teddy trying to propose to you again I’m going to punch him out before he can even get down on one knee.”
“You are not assaulting a fellow officer.”
“Kick in the balls?”
“How very mature, Mister-I-have-an-actual-child-now.”
“Can I at least tell him where he can stick his ridiculous ideas of marrying you at any point in the future, no matter the circumstances?”
She hums for a second.
“You can. If you add in how ridiculous the idea was in the past as well.”
“Oh now, that’s a good deal.”

more peraltiago future headcanons, keep them coming! like starting the last scene of the show?
i don’t have any hcs starting right from there but i’ve thought a lot about jake at his new dream job with mac and some peraltiago ones too :)
i. i like to think that jake prepares amy’s lunch every morning and he adds a little note in her bag that is just like “hey ames! hope you have a great day baby, mac and i love you so so much and i hope you enjoy your lunch!” and other three paragraphs about how much he loves her, with tons of grammatical mistakes <3
ii. when amy’s pregnant with their second kid and she’s on maternity leave it’s the best time of their lives because it’s the three of them together at home! and they literally do nothing but fall asleep together or eat anything amy’s craving and it’s the best and so domestic and jake loves it so much. they all paint the new baby’s nursery together and there are three hands printed on the wall, and when the baby arrives her hand print is also put on the wall
iii. jake and amy still bet on everything, especially when it comes to mac’s milestones. they might or might not keep a score board in their room
iv. also i firmly believe that jake has done that thing where, when mac is crying and can’t stop, he just opens snapchat and when mac sees himself with a filter he’s like 😮 and stops crying immediately

For the most recent prompts, no. 35 with peraltiago?
I’d love to!  🌟 Here’s a little something for 35: “Your stray red item turned my whites pink.”
love, in full colour
Today was turning out to be a pretty great Sunday for Amy, as she stretches her legs out on her boyfriend Jake’s surprisingly comfortable couch and presses play on the documentary he had so sweetly recorded for her.  Weekends off had always been a favourite of hers, but if there’s anything that the past nine months has told her, it's that weekends off when you’re dating Jake Peralta are just so much better.
She had woken up this morning to Jake’s familiar sleepy cuddles, morning stubble scratching against her skin and sending tingles up and down her spine as his arms wrapped around her waist, convincing her in approximately 2.3 seconds that sleeping in definitely wasn’t such a bad thing (especially when it eventually leads to … other things).  It had been a long week; made all the longer by a perp that had decided to play cat and mouse with the detectives of the nine-nine, and even after they’d stumbled out of bed and toasted bagels for breakfast, Amy genuinely didn’t have any desire to have a day any more productive than TV, blankets, and (most importantly), Jake.
It had been close to half an hour ago that he’d slipped out of the apartment for the second time, basket in hand as he’d headed back down to the laundry room to collect the washing he’d put on earlier.  Rebuffing her offers of help with a swift kiss to her lips, he’d simply reminded Amy of the program ready and waiting for her, throwing out a “Love you!” as he’d headed for the door, and honestly if Amy’s Sunday hadn’t already been looking great, that moment right there just absolutely topped it.
(It’s been months since they’d started saying it - those three little words that had seemed so terrifying but actually were up there with her favourite phrases ever - but they still managed to spark a tiny ball of happiness inside her every single time the words came out of Jake’s mouth.  She supposes that this is what love is, really - sour candy flavoured kisses and laughter in the darkness - and she’s so thankful that she found it in Jake.)
The documentary has been playing for ten or so minutes before Amy’s index finger begins hovering over the pause button, one part still interested in the manufacturing process of the world’s oldest brass instruments, and one (slightly louder) part feeling strangely empty without her boyfriend’s warm chest to rest up against.  (Even though she knows he would spending the entire program playing on his phone, there’s something about his presence that just makes everything … better.)
Amy’s still in Consideration Mode when she hears Jake’s key slide into the lock, and it’s ridiculous how big her smile begins to get, but as she tips her face up to catch his eyes her lips falter on their ascent.
There’s an obvious air of frustration surrounding him as he skulks past her, holding the plastic basket close to his hip as he heads towards the bed on the other side of his loft-style apartment.  It bounces slightly against the recently remade duvet as Jake dumps the contents onto the mattress, his frustrations quickly bubbling to the surface, and without hesitation Amy forgoes the remote control, standing quickly to join her boyfriend by his bed.
“Everything okay?”
He nods, letting out a soft grunt as he half-heartedly starts folding the newly cleaned clothes, and honestly Amy is trying not to pay attention to his folding technique, but her fingers are just itching to take over.  There’s still a slight pout on his face, small enough for her to pick up on, and it takes precedent over any Kondo-like techniques that she might be dying to demonstrate.  “You sure?”
Jake gives her another nod, followed quickly by a shrug.  “I mean, there’s one little problem with the laundry that I don’t know how to fix, but … it’s no biggie.”
“A problem with your laundry?”
“Yeah.”  He sighs, balling up the t-shirt in his hand before dropping it back into the pile, using his free hand to run through his hair, which has just started to get long enough to curl.  “Turns out there was a stray item of yours that was in my laundry.  I mean, there were a few things, and that makes total sense, but there was one item in particular - a red item, actually - that I think might be the culprit.”
“The culprit?”
“So … I might not have noticed have been paying close attention when I transferred everything to the dryer, and well …”  he lifts up a pair of socks, similar to the ones he wore to bed last week except now they were a deep pink, and Amy tries her best to stifle her giggle.  “There’s like … another three pairs just like it,” he adds with a mumble.
“But!  May I present to you, detective: the guilty party.”  Transferring the socks to his left, his right hand digs through the pile before pulling out a lacy red bra that Amy may have recently bought purely on the knowledge that it was one of Jake’s favourite colours on her.
(To be fair, he might have told her that all of the colours were his favourite colours on her, but she’s definitely seen a positive response to the colour red in the past.)
“Alleged guilty party, thank you very much,” Amy begins, grinning to take the edge off of her response.  “Plus, you didn’t seem to mind that bra so much last night, if I recall correctly.”
She reaches for the offending item, and Jake’s fingers tighten around the lace, holding her bra close to his chest, and she giggles at his reflexive response.  “Despite my flinging it across the room, I can confirm that I did - and DO - indeed love it.  Almost as much as I love the person who was wearing it.”
Her cheeks begin to turn the same colour as the socks in her boyfriend’s hand, and Amy cocks her head to the side.  “I love you too, babe.  So … what’s the problem you can’t figure out?  If it’s the pink you’re worried about, a bit of bleach will get that right out.”
“Huh?”  He lifts his hand up, glancing at the item that Amy is pointing to.  “Oh.  Nah.  I don’t care about the colour.  You and I both know that I would rock this pink.  I can already tell it’s going to highlight my ankles in the perfect way.  Really accentuate my curves, you know?  I just ..”
Even before they were something more than partners, Amy could see through Jake’s ‘make a joke to conceal how I’m really feeling about something’ technique, and today is no exception.  Taking the smallest of steps closer to him, she softens her voice ever so slightly.  “Jake?”
His shoulders slump to the floor, and his right hand releases her lingerie.  “I just … I feel so stupid.  I’m trying to be the perfectly domesticated boyfriend, a responsible adult who cleans up after himself and doesn’t leave empty pizza boxes everywhere.”  His eyes drop to the floor briefly before flicking back up to meet hers, and the sincerity in his gaze cuts Amy to the quick.  “You know, the kinda guy that doesn’t need supervising in the laundry room, or whatever.”  His hand closes tightly around the socks before dropping it back into the pile, and when he looks back up at Amy she can see the disappointment stretched across his face.  “And obviously, I completely failed.  I wasn’t going to say anything, but .. I dunno, I guess maybe I don’t want to keep things from you or something.”
In all honesty, Amy’s not entirely sure what she was expecting Jake’s answer to be, but it definitely wasn’t that.  She stands still in front of him for the longest minute as a result, mouth open slightly as her mind races to absorb his response.
He takes her silence as a request for more information, and shuffles his sneaker covered feet against the floorboards.  “It’s just … I know that people think that you’re way too good for me.  And to be fair, they’re not entirely wrong.  I was just hoping that I could find a way to bridge the gap a little … try and make it a little less obvious that I’m punching well above my weight.  And then I couldn’t even do the damn laundry right.”
At any given moment, Amy could present to any asking stranger a million reasons why Jake Peralta was the man that had captured her heart, and the notion that the justification was coming from her very own boyfriend was making her soul ache more than a little bit.
Anybody that thought he wasn’t good enough for her could go jump in the Gowanus Canal, for all she cared.  But the thought that Jake considered it to be true?  Nuh-uh.  Not on her watch.
She moves closer to him, close enough to smell the oddly intoxicating body wash he uses - the one that always seems to get her pulse racing, but she suspects that it’s more due to the user than the product itself.  “Jake.  You specifically ordered dinner last night from the Chinese restaurant that was exactly thirty-five minutes away from your apartment, knowing that I would be over in twenty and you wanted to give me a chance to settle before the food arrived.”
“That, and they do the best dumplings.  But yeah, you’re right - mostly the time thing.”
“I woke up this morning on a cloud of a mattress, one that you bought purely so that I would be able actually sleep when I stayed over.”
Jake’s mouth twists to one side, and after a beat he folds his arms across his chest.  “I just wanted you to feel comfortable … with the added bonus of you staying over more often.  Although I have to admit, once you’ve realised you have a dumpster mattress, it’s actually really hard to ignore the springs that dig into your back in the middle of the night.”
Amy’s smile grows bigger, reaching out to rest her palm flat against his chest.  “And then you made us both bagels, with extra cream cheese - something that I know you don’t normally have in your fridge, which tells me you went grocery shopping just in case I stayed over.  Not to mention the documentary on brass instruments that you ‘happened to see scheduled and just recorded’, because you knew I would want to watch it eventually.”
“It actually looked pretty cool,” he mumbles, shrugging his shoulders in an attempt to make it seem like a lesser deal than it actually was.
“And don’t think I didn’t notice the freshly cleaned sheets, and the space you’d made for me in your bathroom cabinet months ago.”
“…. Are you … journaling all of this somewhere?”
Letting out a soft chuckle, Amy shakes her head.  “My point is, you are rocking the boyfriend role, babe.  Seriously.  You have been so sweet and attentive, without ever getting too much, and honestly I’ve just had the best time with you.  I hope you know just how much I appreciate it … how much I appreciate you, and how great you make me feel whenever you’re around.  Seriously, you should feel my heart sometimes, I feel like it’s going to beat right out of my chest.”
He still has a slightly wary look on his face, but as Amy wraps her arms around his shoulders, crossing her wrists behind his neck, Jake’s hands wrap around her waist in automatic response.  “I love you, Jake Peralta.  For everything you are, exactly as you come.”
A slight blush begins to wash across his cheeks, and oh, how she just wants to kiss this ridiculous notion right off of his lips.  “I love you too, Ames.  You’re just … the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”  His grip on her hips grows a little tighter, and his voice lowers.  “And I’m sorry if all of this sounded totally stupid, I just … want to make you as happy as you’ve made me.”
“Mission accomplished, babe.  You’re everything I want, I don’t give two hoots what anybody else thinks.”  Punctuating her sentence with a soft kiss, she rests her hands on either side of his neck and raises her eyebrows suggestively.  “Now, why don’t we take care of this laundry so the bed is nice and clear, and then I can show you just how much you are the right person for me.”
“Noice.  Just checking though … that doesn’t mean ‘throw everything to the floor so that I can immediately ravage my super-hot boyfriend’, does it?”
Cocking her head to the side, Amy grins.  “You should definitely trust your instincts on that one.”
“10-4.  We’re going to fold the heck out of this laundry.”
*
It’s a several years older Jake Peralta that fishes into his sock drawer one early afternoon, desperately looking for those just thick enough socks that he hasn’t seen in months but is sure he hasn’t thrown away.  They’re tucked up right along the furtherest edge of the drawer, in a position that Amy’s engagement ring had once also called home, and he grins when his fingers wrap around the hidden treasure.
They’re a little less pink these days, having been through the wash several times since their re-colouring, but he can still make out the slight tinge when he holds them up to the light.  Pulling them on with vigour, he makes his way back out to the living room to join his wife and son - knowing that both are looking forward to the start of their midday movie session - and also just as eager for some much-needed Family Time.
“Okay, made it,”  Jake announces, lifting up the bag of candy he’d snagged from the kitchen as he’d passed, “and I brought snacks.”  From his left, his son Mac looks up from his position snuggled into Amy’s side, and upon clocking Jake’s sudden appearance he beams (the kind of smile that just makes Jake’s heart soar, every. time.), scrambling in his clumsy toddler-esque style to climb onto Jake’s lap, wrapping his arms around his father’s neck in the very best way that his still so chonky arms will allow.  Casting the bag of snacks to the side, Jake whispers “ready to watch the movie, little man?”, reaching out to tweak Mac’s button nose (a thankful inheritance from his mother) when he nods.
Turning his head further to the left as he wraps his arms around his son, Jake catches Amy’s eyes, noticing them sparkle as she takes it all in.  Shuffling ever so slightly, Jake moves an inch to the left so that his left arm can rest on his wife’s legs, and she curls her fingers around his with one hand as she presses play on the remote with the other.
His crossed feet plonk onto the coffee table in front of him, and as he glances briefly at his socks before turning his attention back to the movie, Jake cannot help but think of the younger version of himself that had felt so insecure about his relationship with Amy.  She is, after all, the love of his life (a fact that perhaps he hadn’t been ready to acknowledge back then, but one that was true within weeks of them dating all the same), and he was hers.  Maybe if he’d been able to see that, he wouldn’t have taken the little things like a pair of newly coloured socks so hard.
Amy’s fingers squeeze his gently, and after glancing at her from the corner of his eye, Jake picks up on the fact that she’s just noticed his choice in attire.  It would appear that the pink tinge is just as noticeable to her and it is to him - a fact that makes his heart more than a little bit happy - and when she tugs him a little closer he closes the gap between them, pressing his lips against hers in a chaste but loving kiss.
He cannot deny the smile that is growing on his face as they both pull away, returning their attention to the screen in front of them but keeping their fingers linked all the while.  This right here, was everything that he needed - and undoubtedly, everything he deserved - and he genuinely cannot wait to raise Mac together with Amy, and show their son just how amazing the world can be when you always have love on your side.

Where are his glasses at?
Jake canonically wears contacts and we have seen a number of scenes where he logically would (or should) be wearing glasses BUT HE HASN’T. Here’s the those times (from Casecation onwards) where we have been deprived of bespectacled Jake.
This is a flashback so technically pre-casecation but he did also get his contacts switched sometime before the episode so it’s going to be included. Wouldn’t Jake have already taken his contacts out before brushing his teeth (or if this is morning, have brushed his teeth prior to putting in contacts)?
Tumblr media
I’m pretty sure they’d both be wearing glasses when they get into bed. Jake definitely would, since he’s playing on his phone.
Tumblr media
He’s in his pyjamas so has obviously already showered, again trying to defeat Wario, he would have taken his contacts out and would probably need his glasses to either see his phone (if he’s farsighted) or to see the pregnancy test result (if he’s nearsighted).
Tumblr media
This one isn’t so much that he would be wearing glasses but it would have been a great time to see the three Peralta men bearded and bespectacled.
Tumblr media
It’s evening, he’s on the couch watching TV, surely he (and Amy) would have switched to glasses by this point in their day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this must have happened in the wee hours of the morning. We know from 48hrs that Amy carries her glasses on her, so she surely would have switched to glasses by now. We don’t know anything about what Jake does with his glasses but he’s probably had his contacts in way too long and would have switched to glasses. Plus, just on principle, we deserved to see bespectacled domestic Peraltiago holding their newborn baby.

Are there any popular headcanons on b99 that you hope will become canon in season 7?
YES! Thank you for the ask! I don’t know if these are all popular headcanons -- some are just my own favorite headcanons. This list got long and obviously most of these won’t become canon but I will take any of them:
Jake wears glasses. I realize this is already canon but let’s SEE IT. For a full episode, a cold open, a single bedroom scene, I don’t care -- I feel like we’ve earned this. Potentially this could be tied to...
Jake and Amy are super adorably boring at home and spend pretty much every night (when they’re both off) sacked out on the couch in their PJs (and glasses!), cuddling and binge-watching Riverdale or HGTV or whatever.
Jake as a secretly good (or at least decent) cook. I have no idea why this headcanon is so popular because there’s zero evidence for it in canon, but I BELIEVE. (Related: Jake is a TERRIBLE baker. Amy has come home many times (birthdays, anniversaries, Valentine’s Days, Presidents Days, MLK Days, Saturdays, etc.) to a smoke alarm blaring because Jake’s set fire to yet another cake/pie/baking sheet full of cookies. She’s not sure why he keeps trying but she’ll allow it as long as he keeps cooking her favorite Cuban rice and bean dinner once a week.)
Holt has some sort of incredibly nerdy past-time/fandom that he spends a ton of time on. He helps organize the annual con and he moderates an old-school yahoo group (it made him crazy when they had to shift everything over to google). I’ve headcanoned several variations of this but in canon I could see him invested in, like, Wanda Landowska fandom with eight other people.
Jake hangs out with one or two Santiago brothers regularly -- they play pickup basketball or grab a beer and watch the Nets a couple times a month, something basic like that. David is NOT one of those brothers. Related: Amy hangs out alone with Karen sometimes. They drink red wine over ice in Karen’s garage art studio and paint ceramics. Karen has amazing stories from Jake’s childhood.
Rosa is still with Jocelyn, and they get dinner with Holt and Kevin every other month or so. It’s never said, but Holt definitely organizes these in part because he wants to support Rosa since her parents still aren’t 100% cool with her being bi.Also, Kevin loves Jocelyn and thinks she’s hilarious.
Jake and/or Amy goes in full caretaker mode when the other is sick/hurt. Jake going all protective over pregnant Amy is acceptable but I’d prefer a h/c scenario involving one of them injured on the job.
Somewhat related: A very pregnant Amy works right up to her due date and makes the entire precinct SO NERVOUS.
Not really related but sort of? Jake is great at oral sex. (Look, we will never get this in canon but I CAN DREAM.)
More domestic Peraltiago: They evenly divide the household chores. I want to see Jake making the bed in the morning and Amy coming in to dump clean laundry on top that they both fold/hang together. I want them to keep a grocery list on the refrigerator and take turns shopping because they both hate it. I want Jake to come home with Amy’s dry-cleaned sergeant’s uniform. They usually get takeout but I want Jake to cook a couple times a week and Amy to clean up because that’s fair.
Charles coaches Nikolaj’s Little League/soccer/lacrosse team and they are TERRIBLE. Halfway through the season he recruits Terry to help coach, and Terry ends up adding Cagney and Lacey to the team, and they are easily the best players (but the team still comes in last place).
Jake has finally started working out because he wants to improve his health with a baby soon on the way.
It’s a girl.  ❤️❤️❤️

“Ah! Amy! Help!” Jake shrieked the moment she answered her phone, not really concerned about volume control since he was kinda trying to not die at the moment. It had gotten through four rings before she finally picked up, and this would’ve been it for Jake if it’d gone straight to voicemail. Amy frowned, looking around as if he could see her, but soon brushed it off as her being paranoid. “Jake? What’s wrong?” “I’ve got the goose!” He shouted, jumping to dodge another swipe that could only be described as intelligent and intent. “The goose is here! The goose is here!”

Amy should have known it was going to be an awful summer from the moment Jake Peralta appeared on her front doorstep carrying a dog. “Morning, Ames,” he chirps, irritatingly cheerful, as if he’s passing her in the hallway at school rather than standing in front of her house during the sadly fleeting time of year she’s supposed to be free of this bullshit. “Cheddar, say hi to Amy.” The corgi swaddled in his arms, predictably, doesn’t respond. Jake fixes it with an offended frown. “Well, that was rude.” Amy sneezes a lot and thinks longingly of her bowl of oatmeal squares, now growing soggy on the kitchen counter. hc first birthdays since they started dating or first month of their relationship
First month of Peraltiago headcanons coming up!
First of all, they quickly agree on being officially a c o u p l e, saving them the whole “We’re dating and it’s going really great but we’re still just dating and getting to know each other romantically”-explanation. More specifically, it happens the night Amy shows up at his place to say “screw light and breezy” and she decides to sleep over.
They’re lying in bed, naked and post sexy-timez, with Amy’s head resting on Jake’s chest as her index finger draws sweet nothings on his still warm skin. Suddenly Amy breaks the silence and turns her head to look up at Jake with a slightly nervous yet hopeful look on her face. “When I said screw light and breezy, I really meant it... This is it: You and I. I just kinda think we’re past the point where we need to date to see if it’s something we want to pursue. I just wanna be together without all of the nonsense.” Of course Jake agrees with a deep, loving kiss.
During the first few days, Jake is actually the shyer one, always just a bit nervous about grabbing Amy’s hand, kissing her, wrapping his arms around her when he comes up behind her and all those other, silly things he just wants to do all the damn time now that he’s allowed. But it takes some getting used to
When Jake drops by his mom’s place for coffee and “updates”, she can’t help but smile knowingly when he tells her about him and Amy finally getting together. Though he’d never told her, like explicitly, Karen knew from all the stories and mentions of Amy that her son was in deep. When he finally gets to tell her that they’re together, Karen says “she saw it coming” and adds that she can’t wait to meet her
Their first “official super-domestic moment” is when Amy is washing the dishes after their first dinner (proper dinner, that is, because they always do take-out) at her place. Jake comes up behind her to put his hands on her waist and kiss the back of her head. Amy melts, giggling before Jake without prompting grabs the newly washed plate from her hands and starts drying it off. If he hadn’t been focusing on the plate Jake would’ve noticed the furious blush on her cheeks.
They quickly get really good at avoiding further, mostly silly or competitive, arguments with kisses and touches.
Before Jake is fully aware of automatically doing it, he always gets Amy coffee from the fancy, expensive coffee-place she loves, whenever he stops for his own, cheap deli-coffee. He doesn’t mind spending 10 additional minutes in line, ordering and waiting, if it means he can see her face light up when he walks into work and places it next to her computer without saying anything
Jake learns to “enjoy” vegetables, fruits and just... proper food, meanwhile Amy also leans into huge amounts of sour candy and one evening even a gummy worm burrito (Not an entire one - just a bite of his)
They agree on the fact that wasting 5 years being ‘just friends slash partners’ was indeed very stupid

There have been so many new people following me this last month omg
Thank you so much to everybody, I’m so so happy you stumbled upon my blog and decided to stay!!!!!
Tumblr media
Since I think most of you followed me for my Feysand fics, I thought I would make this post to let you know a few general things about me and my blog :)
I’m French, so my English isn’t always great. I’m 25, and I live in South America, so I’m not on the European time zone, I’m closer to the US time zone (GMT -5). You can always come talk to me, about anything, in my DM’s or in my ask box, anon is always on.
Things I blog about, mostly:
- Sarah J Maas, mainly her ACOTAR series. I ship Feysand (I think this is obvious from my fics hahaha), I do not ship either Elriel nor Elucien, and I don’t really have strong opinion on Nesian. I want Mor to find the love of her life really soon, and I want Azriel to stop feeling entitled to her affection. I also wish Nesta going to the Mountains won’t turn her into a warrior because I want her to read books and drink tea all day long. Although, I’m really critical of the sisters’ general behaviour so I’m not always positive about them.
- Leigh Bardugo, mainly the books from the Grishaverse. I would die for Kanej and Zoyalai. I have many, many feelings about them and can’t wait for King of Scars 2 because I can’t wait to have my heart destroyed. I think Alarkling is an abusive ship and I do blog about that, I also think the Darkling is just an entitled abuser and I hate him. So... yeah no Darkling love here ^^’
- Brooklyn 99, mostly Peraltiago but really the entire show is gold and I blog about it often. Often without tags so... sorry x) If you ask me to tag it I will try to be better :)
- His Dark Materials, the show AND the books. If you haven’t read the books, but are watching the show, my blog isn’t safe because I am talking about the books a lot!!!!! BUT everything that relates to the books is tagged #hdm books so you can avoid spoilers in my blog if you filter this tag. ALSO these books are a personal obsession, and my favorite book series, since I was nine so I.... have a lot of feelings. About a lot of things.
- Harry Potter. I hate Snape with a passion, I can rage about him for hours on end, and I do share anti Snape stuff. I also hate Dumbledore for forcing Harry to leave with his abusive family for 17 years. I ship Hinny and Romione, I LOVE Ron and I will defend him from the haters always, I identify 2000% with Hermione, and Ginny is my favorite character. Harry is bisexual and no you cannot change my mind. I do not consider The-Play-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named to be canon, and I have very mixed feelings about the Fantastic Beasts series. I also have a very love/hate relationship with JK Rowling because I love what she created but she doesn’t seem to understand her characters, she doesn’t seem to care anymore, plus she’s a TERF and probably a homophobe so yeah... I hate her and I talk about it.
- Random stuff: A LOOOOOT of it!! Stupid jokes, cute photos of animal, art that I like, movies, books, TV series I like,..... Sorry my blog is not well maintained hahaha
- Other people’s fanfic: Okay so I have a job that takes up most of my time and energy. So I have very little spare time to read and write, and most of the time, I chose to write. Which means I am very bad at keeping track of what’s happening around me in the fanfic universe. BUT I am always willing to check out someone’s writing!!!! I might not do it right away because of lack of time but I would love it :) I’m really bad at recommendations though because I have so little time hahaha
The things I write
Here’s my masterlist :) You can also read all of it on AO3 !
- Original story: I don’t blog much about it, but I’m developping an original story that is basically sci-fi/apocalyptic. I looooove it and I am always open to answer things about it!!!! I might try to share more about it in the time to come ^^
- Non-Feysand fics. I don’t write a lot of these hahahaha but I do sometimes write some Peraltiago, some Kanej, and I have a few Jily/Wolfstar/Marauders projects, but I don’t think I will post them any time soon.
- Feysand fics. aka most of what I write hahahaha I love them and their relationship is an endless source of inspiration for me. Here are details of what’s happening right now, and what’s coming hopefully soon.
Current projects:
Feysand Holiday Fluff Fest: The reason I think most of you are following me ^^ A series of fluff prompts I’m writing for this month, it’s really fun for me because I have a tendency of writing very long stories and it’s a fresh feeling stopping at one-shots.
If you hold me close: It’s a modern fake dating AU, Feyre doesn’t want to go alone to her sister’s wedding and invites Rhys, but then they end up faking being in a relationship. I was thinking I would tag everyone who asked me to be in the tag list for the holiday fluff, but you can always ask me to untag you, I will not take it personnally I swear!!! Your personal experience is what matters :)
Staying Afloat: My baby, I love this fic so much it’s impossible to explain how much I do. I want everyone to love it and tell me what they think. This fic tackles some tough subjects though, mainly domestic abuse (Feyre is dating Tamlin for a good part of it). It’s also very angsty, and a very long slowburn hahahaha @tonystarksbish is my amazing beta reader and general main supporter, she’s honestly the reason I write that many things now. Go check her writing blog ( @somanyshipsss )
Future projects:
A Feysand college AU, mostly written from Rhysand’s point of view. I’m planning for it to be around 15 chapters, maybe? But it might get longer hahahaha
Some one-shots, some canon campliant, some in modern AUs, but all of them being published at an unknown date, depending on when inspiration strikes hahahaha
A project that is basically dumb and silly and that I started TODAY with @quakeriders (if you don’t know what she writes, go to her blog right now), we might post it and tell you more but basically Rhys is canon!Rhys and Feyre is a dumbass human from modern time who’s chilling around in a Stitch onesie. It’s really silly but we LOVE it!!!!! I can’t wait to share it with you guys it’s gonna be so fun ^^ (But not before the end of the month at least!)
Completed projects:
I made you a promise, it’s basically a mostly fluff modern AU, Feyre and Rhys meet at a bar and start dating! It’s been complete for a while now but sometimes I still post random headcanons or short or less short snippets of the story, generally according to request from people (well, from @quakeriders really hahaha) so you can send me requests if you want extensions or headcanons!!
I am ALWAYS open to prompts!!!!!!!! I love them and I will love you if you send me some. BUT I might not answer right away because inspiration is a bitch hahaha
Anyway, I think that’s it, I hope you all are having a great day, and I love you all so much for liking what I write, you bring me so much joy that I could hug all of you and it still wouldn’t be enough ^^

Because we were so starved of Peraltiago kisses in season 6, we better get lots of kisses in season 7. I'm talking tender, gentle kisses, steamy, urgent kisses, quick pecks on the cheeks, kisses goodnight, forehead kisses, kisses while cuddling and Jake better kiss both her and her belly when she tells him she's pregnant. Thoughts?
YES!!!!💞 I agree w all of this like ofc a makeout would be great and all but even just lil intimate things like Jake going downstairs to see Amy on her breaks and dropping kisses on her collarbone like “you ok” (with the unspoken “if not point me in the direction of the problem and I will fix it!!”) and the elevator opening to everyone seeing them making out in full view of the bullpen lol and when Amy’s pregnant and v hormonal lots of pda even if it’s just her coming up behind jake and wrapping her arms around his midriff !!!! And of course domestic kisses like Jake kissing amy when she’s trying to bake something and getting flour on his lips from her forehead and not even caring and hot! kisses like Amy just getting home and sweeping Jake up in a heated kiss and his day off just got a whole lot better😏

Four Eyes Peralta
I cannot stress or appreciate enough how much @amazingsantiago has helped me in writing this fanfic. She’s in true essence amazing. I love her fics, I love her and now this fic holds a special place in my heart. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ Thank you so very much! ❤️
It’s a very normal Monday morning in Brooklyn at the 99th precinct. That is until man-child Jacob Peralta walks into the precinct; a pair of frames adorning his face.
Jake Peralta was wearing glasses. Dorkish rounded square glasses.
Charles is the first one to notice the difference as Jake walks to his desk consciously quiet, not wanting to draw any unnecessary attention which is unusual for Jake Peralta for he always makes his presence known when ever he enters the precinct.
‘Jake, what’s on your face!?!?’ Charles screams loud enough for the whole precinct to stop and look at Jake. Half of them confused, the other half smirking.
'It’s nothing, Boyle. Get back to work.’ He hushes him but to no avail as Charles only gets more hysterical in confronting him.
'What did you do to your baby browns, Jake!? How am I supposed to see them now!? They’re all glassy and weird!’
'Ahahah Jake’s getting old!’ Rosa chimes in laughing.
'Calm down, Boyle! This is just for today. I couldn’t find my contacts.’
'So this is Amy’s fault?! Amy, how could you? Do you even love him?’ Boyle changes his target of exasperation in a matter of seconds.
'Uh uh.’ Amy smirks, making no effort what so ever to abstain from laughing. 'This all on you, Peralta. I asked you to clean the bathroom ages ago. I gotta say, I feel like you deserve this.’
Jake snarls at her as Boyle fans himself after his scarce dose of domestic peraltiago.
'Pay up, Grandpa. You bragged at the academy there was NO WAY you’d get older first.’ Rosa quips.
'We’re the same age, Rosa!’
'Tell that to your eyesight, ugly Betty.’ Rosa contorts. 'Where’d you even get these? Did you go out shopping with Lieut?’
'Oh hell no! Even Terry’s got enough sense not to buy that contraption.’ Terry joins in.
'Terry you have a weird necklace with your glasses; Your opinion means nothing to me.’
'He kinda looks like Tony Vreski, right?’ Terry adds.
They all collectively agree with him smiling as realisation draws on them.
'Now you all know Die Hard!’ Jake looks around in disbelief 'He’s not even a main character! This is the worst day ever!’ he mumbles. 'I don’t remember anyone making this much fun of Terry’s glasses!’
'Your’s are way worse, man.’ Terry responds to which everyone nods and agrees, snickering openly despite Jake’s frown. After all its not everyday they get to make fun of Jake Peralta.
The precinct falls silent upon the ring of Jake’s phone. Almost expectant. He sceptically takes his phone out of his pocket only to see a text from Gina.
Heard you got glasses now 👨👓 Send me a pic girl!
'Who told Gina?!’ He asked ludicrously. The squad only roars in laughter in return.
'What is the meaning of this commotion?’ Captain Holt demands, the racket having drawn him into the bull-pen. 'My, my Peralta you look quite distinguished.’ He observed seeing Peralta the centre of attention.
'Thank you! See now here is a man with impeccable taste.’ He smiled elevated by the compliment.
'For a blind person.’ Holt continued characteristically loud.
*Cue Brooklyn Nine Nine Theme Music*
The rest of the day doesn’t get any better. They all promptly remind him that his glasses are so bad they don’t even want to try them on. There are several instances of Rosa making old age jokes to him. Holding the door open for him, getting him ginger ale and whatnot. She even blew up their academy group by sending a picture of his frames.
'Not cool Rosa! I’ve officially lost all my respect for you!’ he’d thrown a tantrum. Charles had annoyed him all day by staring and wist fully looking at his old pictures resulting in Jake cuffing him rather than the perp. 'Imiss the baby browns okay Jake!’. Holt and Amy and Terry had been their own kind of awful.
But despite it all no matter how many times he took off his glasses  in anger to stash them in the drawer he’d always end up wearing them ten minutes later, cursing at the new thread of jokes it’d start, but thankful that he could actually see things rather than blurry shaped.
Maybe he shouldn’t have made so much fun of Santiago so long ago, after all.

He quit his fraternity sophomore year to join the student newspaper, switching his major from business to journalism. He became a photojournalist for a wire service instead of taking a place at Queen Consolidated. He went missing after six months instead of coming home for his sister’s twenty-first birthday. He survived five years of captivity in a war zone when everyone thought he was dead. He came home. But home didn’t have a place for him in it anymore. His parents were both dead, casualties of their own mistakes and a city they had turned against them. His sister was all grown up, the CEO of Queen Consolidated with a fiancé and a dog and a life of her own. Oliver didn’t belong in his old life, but there was nowhere else for him to go. He was a man without a home, without any way of finding one, until he stopped by the IT department of his sister’s company to get files off an old, battered memory card, and found a woman with curly blonde hair and bright, intelligent eyes chewing on a bright red pen and swearing at a computer screen.

And her life. Destiny brings them together, but as chaos reigns and personal demons haunt Will and Amelia both, it may also threaten to tear them apart.
(i want to) save that light by @callistawolf | Arrow | WIP
Summary: What if one little thing changed in the history of Arrow? What if, instead of going to Laurel's apartment after discovering the extent of Merlyn's plans for the Glades, Oliver stayed at the foundry and talked to Felicity instead? can u link me to ur fave peraltiago fics?
Sorry I’m posting this so late, I’ve had quite an eventful day. But these are just SOME of the amazing fics that are out there. I tried to include a little bit of everything because I honestly will read pretty much any fic if Jake and Amy are in it and neither of them dies or something. I will say that all of these are preeetty fluffy (gotta stay on brand, yo) but it’s like the most well written fluff ever. anyway, I hope you enjoy these beautiful fics!
Five Things That Don’t Change Once They Start Dating (And One That Does) by nubbins_for_all (nsfw)
literally this one has it all; fluff, smut, early peraltiago banter, established relationship banter, babies, all of it.
Beach House Revelations by eveningrose (nsfw)
a canon-divergent fic where amy and jake get drunk on another beach house excursion. possibly my favorite get together fic, like, ever. it’s a perfect mix of smut and plot!
somewhere only we know by @hotelsweet (AU)
THIS FIC GAVE ME ALL THE FEELS. it’s an AU where Jake and Amy are childhood besties and he goes to all 11 of her birthday parties at the planetarium and ohhhhh my god it’s the best and so freaking sweet.
The Peraltiago Parenting Experience by @amyscascadingtabs
listen, this is literally the ULTIMATE kid fic. if you like children or jake and amy at all you will love this fic. so much soft, blissful, domestic peraltiago and all the babies!!!!
Love me, just for a bit by @sergeantsantiago (AU) (nsfw-ish)
An AU where Jake and Amy work at different precincts in brooklyn and meet at Cop-Con. the chemistry between the two of them is honestly SO FREAKING GOOD and the sexy times are hot but also really sweet?? i freaking tore through this fic its so good
on my heart like a tattoo by @elsaclack (soulmate AU)
Soulmate AU where whatever is drawn on your skin shows up on your soulmate’s as well. I just love the idea of the two of them talking together and growing up together in this way. it’s just so unique and special! just read it. you won’t regret it
all the way home i’ll be warm by @the-pontiac-bandit
christmas! santiago reuinion! adorable domestic peraltiago! a (not-so) surprise ending! WHAT ELSE COULD YOU WANT?!?! seriously, this fic has top notch characterization and i constantly find myself reading it even in the middle of summer.
a case of you by @santiagoswagger (soulmate AU) (kind of)
so technically this is a soulmate AU??? but also not really??? look i love literally everything lindsay writes but this is such an underrated gem.
so close to reaching that famous happy end by @startofamoment (AU)
ah, the infamous time travel AU from the queen of AUs herself. honestly i would die for maxwell santiago-peralta he is the best fictional four year old ever. Also the early peraltiago banter combined with surprise parenting is literally the best combo ever so you should really read this fic.
happiness is where you are by @fourdrinkamy
I couldn’t NOT include a fic by the fluff/hoe o’clock genius that is fourdrinkamy. but seriously, this is such a freaking cute fic with some wonderful established peraltiago sweetness (at a wedding for gods sake!!) and my two surrogate grandchildren (yes, that’s a thing) maya and max.

I was tagged in this by @nevermindthewind, thank you so much lovely ❤️
finally it seems my lonely days are through (i've been waiting for you) I am so so proud of this piece! It's so special and I questioned for so long whether anyone would really want a super long fic about Peraltiago baby being born, but at the same time, I wanted to write it so bad. When I finally did, it took me over a month to finish because I wanted so bad for it to be perfect, and damn it if I don't consider the result to be just that. I worked so hard on this and the scares towards the end are both the worst and best thing I've ever written.
i'll take your hand when thunder roars I'm such a sucker for post-prison and hurt/comfort and this is the best combination of the two. It's my most popular single fic and I can't believe how many people have left me lovely feedback on this. The scene where Amy yells at Jake was, I believe, one of the best scenes I wrote this year.
leave me with some kind of proof it's not a dream My fave out of all my Peraltiago oneshots. It's short and sweet and if I say it myself, I feel like I really nailed the characters in this. I love the moment where Amy is scared Jake will fall off the bed so she draws him closer and realises she's spooning him. Just.. this piece is hilarious and domestic all at once.
love you To me, this piece sort of signifies where I started feeling like people were enjoying my writing, because I uploaded this to my newly started babyfic collection at ao3 and the next day I had FOUR comments at the same time which was the most I'd ever gotten back then. I love my little loving girl Leah and I love writing Amy loving her children.(fun fact - my best friend read this and loved it so much she wrote 'wuv you' in my birthday card as a reference to it).
there's tears we'll cry, but those tears will fade I just love every word in this. The image of it is so clear to me, and it's yet another one of the fics where I feel like the characters are so perfectly on point. I don't know what else to say about it, but yeah. I really love it. ❤︎ honorary mentions: if we got nothing, we got us and however big, however small (let me be part of it all)
and also peraltiago parenting experience. I’m sadly not really a fan of it myself today, because I feel like I’ve grown so much in my writing since then I kind of cringe when I read it, but it is inevitably the piece which brought me back into the fic-writing world and I’ll always be grateful for that.
tagging @amazingsantiago, @nolookfive, @dmigod, @alljustrunaways and @sergeant-santiago!
