some c!dream fics don't take into account his flaws and make him like a little bit out of characther bc while he was traumatized by the prison and it affected his way of thought in much aspects he was still able to bit your hand if you looked him bad and got more focused on his revenge and after his plan. He's a more morally grey characther and sometimes people who try too hard not fell into the c!inniter caricature ended up making him unable to literally even hold a sword when that isn't true either

to be fair, c!dream was deeply affected by the prison and absolutely got nerfed like hell fighting wise. the difference between his fight with clingy before and after the prison is insane--not to mention how scrapped lore had him so damn triggered by the sight of the cell replica that c!quackity and c!sam could get him down pretty much without a fight. las nevadas five has him running away from the fight at the first main sign of danger (and then successfully being followed by c!tommy without noticing) and the scene with c!sapnap and c!george with aimsey had him barely fighting back at all, cowering behind his shield against a wall, and running away and using arrows of harming to get himself distance. like, sure, he can definitely still fight, but he was absolutely played as losing a lot of his fighting ability (c!dream's fighting style is nothing like cc!dream's--it was absolutely a deliberate character choice to have him act like this)

all that being said, i get what u mean--ooc c!dream is everywhere in every flavor. i definitely like c!dream written with a little bit of bite, especially when he's on the back foot, as you said. c!dream's declarations of revenge (as is especially evident in LN5 and daedalus, boy what the fuck is torturing a country supposed to mean IT'S A COUNTRY) are also very evidently ... often defensive in nature? c!dream bites and shows his teeth as a back off back off dont fucking touch me don't try to fuck with me gesture because he's scared moreso than angry, tbh, and i think playing with aggression due to fear is something fun to do with c!dream in fic in general bc of the ways that aggression can be perceived and then responded to

a lot of what i like about post-prison c!dream is that ... despite an alleged focus on revenge (which took him months. and fucked him over, with scrapped lore, and was badly executed both times with quackity and put him in a lot of danger and involved a hell of a lot more trying to get through to sam than actual revenge in daedalus) and The Plan (which involved ... killing people? and then he repeatedly. does not kill people?) is that he does feel quite directionless. he's still in the prison, still caught in that limbo. he's doing research (i guess) and he's letting the prison (his home base) rot around him. he's staying there and barely leaving for weeks at a time. all while he's focused on the plan, guys, #trust, he's fine, he's still moving forward moving on ... just. Just.

DSMP Takes Hot Enough To Cook My Dinner

- The DSMP has multiple storylines with a variety of POVS that all come from flawed, unreliable narrators. To sort characters into strict moral categories and to pin the blame for everything that has occurred on a single character misses the entire point of the work while dismissing the medium chosen for it.    

- Unfortunately, a fair amount of the DSMP fandom don’t watch the entirety of the lore and even fewer watch more than one character POV. 

-Hardly anyone actually analyzes what they see with paratext.    

-The DSMP fandom has a weird form of moral correctness. Having any non-negative feelings for certain characters or pointing out the flaws in other ones means you’re a bad person and deserve abuse.   

-Even so, I like how the DSMP fandom introduced terms such as apologist, sympathizer, enthusiast, and critical. It should be used by other fandoms. 

-Having sympathy for a “bad” character does not mean you have to pin the blame for their actions on another “bad” character.     

- It’s ridiculous that people get mad when a character who has a negative relationship with another character is not upset when the character they have a negative relationship with has something bad happen to them.    

-Adult characters are not required to take care of the characters who are minors, especially since many of them are only a few years older than said minors.

-The DSMP wiki is obviously biased and needs way more trigger warnings.  

-The DSMP isn’t as revolutionary as people make it out to be. I think the impressive performances and the actors themselves are what makes it so popular. 

-Ironically, the DSMP members are terrible to each other as roleplay partners which causes a lot of problems in the lore.    

-What is considered canon lore can be very unclear and should be clarified.

-The DSMP members should also address the toxicity and infighting in the fandom. It’s gotten too extreme to ignore.

I get neither of them like to do that, but if you’re living and raising a child together maybe you should discuss some shit and lay everything out on the table. 💚 - Is Dream morally gray?

Yeah. He definitely thinks he’s doing the right thing/doing these bad things for the greater good of the server. He doesn’t really consider how it’ll effect anyone else but him, he can only see the desired results. He n sam are like, scarily similar in this aspect imo

🐺 - Should Wilbur get a redemption arc?

Wilbur has never exactly been a fully, er, good character, per say? I don’t think he should have a redemption arc, not bc he isn’t deserving of one, but I honestly just can’t see him being capable of one. He’s been a liar and manipulative since the beginning and I don’t see enough change to really believe he will do so.

God no. Maybe it’s just me, but redemption arcs seem like a cop-out half the time. Dream’s done irreversible damage, and I don’t think he can make up for that. Just like Wilbur, I don’t exactly see him learning from his mistakes or changing for the better. I would actually like to see him actively get worse ^^

🏛 - Should Pandora's Vault be destroyed?

Oh god. Probably. Sam knows now that Dream had him build it specifically to keep Tommy locked up, but I honestly don’t think it’s getting destroyed unless Sam goes down with it. While Pandora’s Vault could definitely keep the server safer, it’s only a matter of time before it becomes another much more present issue. Sam saw a lot of people as threats to the server, and honestly, as long as the server continues, I think he’ll see more and more people as threats to the peace. There could come a time in which his morality leads him to believe that no one should be allowed out from the prison, and what then? It should be destroyed before it becomes too big of a threat.

💀 - Doomsday... just... anything about Doomsday.

Based but actually like not at all. It’s a pretty brutal yet understandable retaliation from the Arctic guys, and Dream sees any form of leadership that isn’t his own as a threat, so like, yeah, they had it coming. The thing is, Dream and co. kinda went like, overkill? They took what wilbur did and multiplied it by like a solid thousand. Kinda unfair to tubbo tho too bc imo he didn’t really have much of a say in what they did in New L’Manburg and was rlly only a figurehead for Quackity.

He’s almost there but honestly with forming the syndicate?? Dude um, maybe you just don’t like being told what to do bc it kinda seems like you’re the authority there. It’s kinda a gray area tho bc of just how everything runs on the dsmp. What is and isn’t a government can be hard to tell. I think mostly he just acts on how he feels. He didn’t attack New L’Manburg bc of anarchism, he attacked New L’Manburg bc they tried to kill him and held his best friend prisoner in his own house.

hot take but you literally can't disregard the meta aspect of dream smp lore, especially with a situation like this finale. the story is ALWAYS going to be influenced by real life complications. c!tommy couldn't have left with c!wilbur because cc!tommy hasn't had time to do his own finale stuff for his character because of his busy schedule. that was never going to happen unless cc!tommy completely disregarded his entire character's remaining arc and just cut it off unfinished to leave with c!wilbur. I knew that wasn't going to happen when cc!tommy expressed he wanted to finish his character. there just wasn't time to make everything line up

so instead we get c!crime separating, but with a promise that they'll see each other again. c!wilbur didn't kill himself, c!tommy confronted him about all the things he'd done to him, and they admitted just how important they are to each other. this was honestly the best ending we could get when taking irl stuff into account, which is why I'm satisfied with it. it rounded out everything about c!crime we needed to see them talk about, and had a hopeful ending. I totally get if you don't like it, but just remember there is always going to be real life complications that come into play with this stuff and there's nothing that can be done about that.

c!Sapnap was never a good friend to c!Dream and the fact that he insisted that he wanted c!Dream to get better and that he had his best interest in mind while also threatening to kill him if he ever escaped was crazy.

c!sapnap is soooo. so. like i think whats really interesting to me about him too is how personal the way he looks at all of this is--he's mad that c!dream slighted him and slighted him personally, he personally feels used and betrayed, and that's why he's mad and doing all of this. it's not really about a greater moral compass bc [looks at c!sapnap] UHHH THIS MAN DOESNT REALLY HAVE ONE. soundly chaotic evil like holy shit. his love for c!dream is so deeply rooted in possessiveness and it's just ... c!sapnap and the way he sees like, everything, honestly is so fucking like. like. it's about him and the people he's deeply connected to and that's It. he's immature? and well, uh, aggressive and emotional and unpredictable, and he's never really been a character motivated by righteousness as much as he's driven by what he thinks of as his right. the death pact with the revive book/death book and saying that hed kill dream and then george would just die without them both was really just, so. see, it's the 'because' that's throwing me off here. both of those statements on their own are correct and i strongly agree with them but i don't think doomsday was based because of the butcher army being cringe. the butcher army was just one aspect of the issues with l'manberg and so doomsday would've been based regardless.

people point to the butcher army as kind of the big transgression but there was also the green festival thing and like... just poor leadership, questionable decisions, etc. c!niki, for example, had plenty of issues which led to her actions on doomsday.

What I cannot stand about the mcyt fandom, the dsmp corner specifically is the constant self-censorship. Character names are written weird, so are the ships names, which are lowkey mid on average, and on ao3, fuckers don't tag characters, don't tag fandom, don't tag ships, or it's that stupid censoring of the ship names and characters. Instead of proper tagging, they put little condescending "no <3"s and "You searched for this" where those tags should be. Yeah no shit, I was searching for it, I had to dig through utter BULLSHIT to get here bitch. "Searched for it", scoff, that's what the TAGS are usually for, to filter for stuff that you're SEARCHING for
