I am ashamed of my country. I am ashamed of my government, the police and these hateful counter protesters, all of whom have grown up/live in the same country and speak the same language as I do.
This is about an hour drive away from me, I want to help them so bad but I do not have the resources nor anyone to go with for safety.
So I will do whatever I can online, and in my closest circle.
We will never give up.

so cool the dutch goverment fell (joyous) but the same people will still probably govern for like a year or until whenever they manage new polls (sigh), then at new voting the same man will highly likely be chosen again (frustrated), or someone worse (anger), and i will go absolutely insane when voting starts again because THERE'S NO ONE GOOD OR EVEN DECENT (furious)

Three aid organizations are suing the Dutch State over the asylum deal between Turkey and the European Union in 2016. The NGOs hold the Netherlands responsible for violating “Dutch, international, and EU law and for the years of inhumane conditions on the Greek islands,” NOS reports. The Netherlands was the EU president when the deal was concluded and is, therefore, responsible for violating the human rights of asylum seekers, said the three Dutch NGOs - Amnesty International, Stichting Bootvluchteling, and Defense for Children. The Turkey asylum deal was intended to end the mass migration of asylum seekers from Turkey to Greece. The deal stipulated that people who made the crossing “irregularly” would be sent back to Turkey unless they applied for asylum in Greece. The EU concluded the agreement despite warnings that Turkey was not a safe country for asylum seekers and that Greece’s asylum system was not functioning.

Mad Tuesday-Dolle Dinsdag
On September 5 1944, exiled representatives of the three countries, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg signed the London Customs Convention, the treaty that established the Benelux. A politico-economic union and formal international intergovernmental cooperation of the three neighboring nations. However, that is not why September 5,1944 would become to known as ‘Dolle Dinsdag’ or Mad…

The Dutch government is discussing a new law related to trans people. It's not going very well, many are unsure or against the law. I hope there will be a demonstration soon

(This is the second try because tumblr did a vanishing trick with the first try. Edit: nvm it just popped up, I am going to leave this one up for good measure)

Ik zou het heel cool vinden als we dit door het hele land kunnen trekken.

The Curaçaoan freedom fighter Tula receives rehabilitation, and the Netherlands offers apologies.
On 17 August 1795, Tula, with 50 others, started the largest revolt in the history of the Netherlands Antilles against the Dutch tyrannical slavers. Tula fought for freedom and equality. His group traveled across the island, freeing people, and the group increased to 2000 people. The Dutch brutually crushed the revolt and captured Tula. Tula was tortured and brutually executed by the Dutch.
The Dutch government always portrayed Tula as a criminal, but today, he is declared a hero by the Dutch government (he has been a national hero in Curaçao since 2010). They also admitted that the Dutch tried to erase him from history and offered official apologies.
These are small steps, but important in the road towards reparations.

One thing I haven't seen Dutch tumblrs talk about yet is how the new cabinet wants to change the way the voting system works, and fast. To be precise:
"Een wetsvoorstel tot invoering van een nieuw kiesstelsel voor de Tweede Kamer ter versterking van de regionale band tussen kiezers en gekozenen wordt dit jaar ingediend, gericht op tijdige inwerkingtreding voor de volgende verkiezingen"
Or in English:
"A bill introducing a new electoral system for the House of Representatives to strengthen the regional link between voters and elected officials will be introduced this year, aimed at coming into force in time for the next election."
Is it just me or does that sound like they want to institute a "winner take it all" system? Like saying, one candidate per district gets chosen, like in the UK (if I recall correctly)?
It sounds like they want to preserve their own power at the cost of democracy itself. Which party is behind this part and what are their intentions? A legal coup?
Like, this gets me scared. If last elections were bad for democracy, then a law change like that would basically put an end to it all together. Is it really a democracy if only two or three parties can get seats?

Hello, hello! Tag back to @caramelcoffeeaddict, although as you pointed out, I have been tagging you. It's a tag back and forth.
I didn't really have anything to share, since I haven't advanced in Ljubili se and I finished posting Just Some Guy yesterday, but HEY remember how in my childhood friends-to-enemies-to-friends-to-lovers fic I'd cry a river just for you I had Kurt mention that he and Blaine once promised each other they'd be at each other's wedding and how my mind just comes up with WIPs? I came up with a new fic idea (so separate from River fic) where Kurt and Blaine were childhood friends, fell out of touch, and then over 10 years later... Well, this happens:
There's a very fancy envelope in Blaine's mailbox. His name "Blaine Anderson" is printed on it in a very fancy-looking font. Blaine has no idea what this could be. He takes it inside his apartment, together with some other letters. Once he's in his kitchen, he goes through it. There's a letter informing him about roadwork, and a letter that's basically one ad, and then there's a letter from his grandmother, which makes Blaine smile. But he's the most curious about this fancy envelope. There's no return address on it. The stamp shows that it comes from New York. When he opens the envelope, a card made out of sturdy paper falls out and when Blaine reads what's written on it, his entire world is turned upside down. Kurt Hummel and Adam Crawford cordially invite you to their wedding...
Blaine stops reading after that.
Don't know if this will become anything, especially since I have other fics to work on, but hey!
