BEST FRIENDS
PART ONE - PART TWO - PART THREE
Pairing: Dylan O’Brien x Reader
Warnings: 18+ content, drinking, smoking, cursing.
Concept: Y/N and Dylan have been best friends for years, but Dylan has a girlfriend who is less than friendly and so incredibly annoying. Oh, and Y/N is secretly in love with Dylan.
Tumblr media
Julia lived with her longterm girlfriend, Aly. They had this great place in the city that we all would gather monthly for a group party. It was the best way to get everyone to catch up for hours without paying out the ass for booze. Mikey and Olivia came over to my place before the big party to pregame, get ready, and force me to come. Olivia put me in black pants and the tiniest top she could find in my closet while Mikey handed me shot after shot. About two hours later, the three of us arrived at Julia's.
“Hey!” Aly cheered as she gave each of us a hug individually. “You look stunning!” Aly smiled as she held me a little tighter. “Kamille isn’t here yet.” She pulled away and watched as a weight lifted off my shoulders. I’ve never been so relieved to learn that Dylan wasn’t there. I smiled at the girl and then walked past her to the kitchen to get another drink. I’ve got enough time to be drunk enough to handle dealing with this girl.
I open their large fridge and pull out a can of whatever is closest and a couple of jello shots. I throw my head back and immediately suck three shots down before cracking open the can in my hands and closing the fridge. I turn and see a tall figure watching me with a smirk, making me jump just enough to spill some of my drink. “God! Why didn’t you say anything!” The man scoffed lightly, “I thought we weren’t talking right now.” I looked at him emotionless. “We aren’t.” Dylan rolls his eyes for a second, “I thought you’d be happy that Kamille isn’t here.” I turned to face him again after trying my best to leave the kitchen without any more words. “I am happy. I’m ecstatic, even! Because now I don’t have to worry about being fucking bullied for just existing!” Dylan scoffed angrily, “Get off your high horse, Y/N/N. She’s not that bad.” I put my drink down on the counter and walk closer to the man in front of me, “Yes, she is! Her entire existence is to hurt my feelings!” Both of our voices were rising more and more with each word. I could hear Julia turning the music up to give us some sort of privacy. “She’s got a good reason for it, Y/N.” I throw my hands up angrily, “Are you fucking serious?” Dylan mocks my actions. “What could possibly be a good enough reason to be a bitch?” Dylan moves closer to me again, “Because she’s jealous. She’s jealous of how close we are.” I shake my head back and forth, close enough to feel his breath on my face. “That’s a bullshit fucking reason, Dylan. She’s the one dating you, not me.” We were both breathing heavily and angrily, our eyes switching back and forth as we argued like we’ve never argued before. The silence should’ve helped us both calm down, but it didn’t. The only thing that changed any demeanor between the two of us in the present moment was the sudden leap Dylan took.
He pressed his lips against mine feverishly. His hand wrapped around the back of my neck as both my arms wrapped around his. His other hand found my waist followed by the first hand as he picked me up and sat me on the counter. His lips paced insatiably down my neck and chest. “Dylan-” I moaned as he hit every spot I wanted him to. “Wait- Dylan-” He continued moving around my body. His lips finally made their way back to my own and so did the thought I had before, “Wait.” He pulled away breathlessly. “What?” I looked at him for a second as I tried to catch my breath as well. “What the hell are we doing?” Dylan looked around for a moment, noting where each of his hands were, “Making out?” I shook my head, “No, no, Dylan. I mean, what the fuck is this? What about Kamille?” Dylan shrugged his shoulders, “I thought you hated Kamille.” He sighed as he began kissing my neck again. I pushed him back softly, “Dylan.” The man pulled away from me again with a tense look on his face. “Look, Y/N/N, there’s something I sort of left out about Kamille and I’s relationship.” I nod my head to urge him to continue. “We have an open relationship.” I furrow my eyebrows at the boy in between my legs - the one that I’ve been wanting in between my legs. He shrugs, “Basically, we can fuck whoever we want as long as we come home to each other at the end of the day.” Dylan smirks softly before eyeing my lips again and diving back in. At first, I let him graciously - not fully processing what he just said to me. Moments later, I moan his name again. “Dylan.” He smirks into my shoulder, “God, I love hearing you moan that.” I shook my head, “No, Dyl-” I sigh, pushing the boy back, “No. No, no, no.” Dylan looks back at me in confusion, “What?” I shake my head and hop down off the counter top. “I-I’m not just someone you can fuck. I’m your friend- your best friend…” I pause and shake my head before mumbling quietly, “Or at least I thought I was…”

"Damn it," you grumbled, throwing the ribbons on the floor in anger. Once again they weren't long enough and if you went back to Beatrice now and asked for new ones, she would know immediately what was the matter.
To make a long story short, the ribbons for your corset were once again too short, just like a few weeks ago. And there was only one reason for that. You were pregnant, to sum it up quickly.
Starting with loss of appetite and pulling abdominal pain, to fatigue and exhaustion. There was everything that pointed to a pregnancy. And when your bleeding finally stopped, it was clear to you. After you went to town to see a midwife, she could only confirm that you were pregnant. Of course, you also thought a few times about terminating the pregnancy in certain ways because life as a single woman with a child at the castle was not so easy. No man would want you anymore. But the thought that the child could possibly look like the father and also be a piece of him made the whole decision much easier for you.
Meanwhile, it wasn't so easy to hide the pregnancy, either. Until recently, the belly was not really visible, and you could hide it under your skirts and dresses. But now the belly was getting bigger and bigger, and slowly the corsets were getting too tight.
"Come on, I'll help you," you heard Adela suddenly behind you. You quickly turned around and tried as best you could to lift the corset tightly behind your back so that she wouldn't notice.
"I didn't even hear you come in," you said, turning your back to her, so she could lace your corset tighter.
"I was just walking by and thought I'd stop by and see you. You weren't at breakfast today, so I was a little worried," she replied and began to lace the corset. Furthermore, you held your breath and pulled your stomach in as best you could.
“I wasn't feeling so well. I preferred being outside in the fresh air."
“Well, pregnancy symptoms like that don't go away overnight either," she added, now hiding the cord in your skirt.
Shocked, you turned around and looked at your friend with wide eyes. She just smiled at you and pulled a little more on your corset as if she had just said something normal. "How did you...?"
"It's quite easy to figure it out if you pay close attention, Y/N. Your skin is glowing, and you're quite sensitive about certain smells, let alone the nausea you've been trying to suppress and hide all this time," she replied.
"I'm sorry I didn't say anything, but I thought maybe I could keep it a secret as long as possible. Maybe someone else would have come to the castle, liked me a lot, and I could slip the kid to them. But now it's already too late anyway. I can't really hide the belly anymore," you confessed to her, lowering your gaze downward.
"And why don't you go back to the kid's father and try again?"
"To Stephan in France?" you lied, trying not to make the situation worse.
"I don't see why Stiles would be in France, but I was thinking more along the lines of you going back to him."
If you were shocked before, you were even more so now. You didn't even know what to answer. But luckily, Adela took care of that for you. "Y/N, even when Stiles arrived here at the castle I knew who he was, and I have to say I was a little confused why he would pretend to be the cousin of France's prince. But then when I realized how much time you spend together, it was clear to me."
"Oh Adela," you sighed and sat down on the sofa next to you. Adela did the same and sat down next to you. "I feel so bad. I owe you an apology for so many things."
"You don't have to feel bad. And most of all, you didn't have to keep the pregnancy to yourself. We all would have been there for you. Even if the baby's father isn't. But just tell me this, Y/N. How do you know each other? And why is the king of one of the greatest empires pretending to be someone he definitely is not?" she finally asked you.
You sighed and looked at your friend. Not really knowing where to start, you began to finally tell her the truth. "Stiles and I have known each other since we were kids. I grew up in the village and at one point was lucky enough to work at the castle. You must know that I am not a lady-in-waiting and never have been. I was just a simple kitchen maid who had been deeply in love with the prince since childhood. And he had also felt exactly the same. Eventually, everything came to light and I had to leave the castle. Queen Claudia sent me on a ship, but Noah was able to prevent worse and made it possible for me to live with the fake title... I'm sorry that I've been playing you all this time."
"You're still you, even if you have a better reputation now, you've always remained yourself. I could feel it from the beginning that you were a heart person. You didn't care who talked to you. Was it the workers here in the castle, or my mother. You treated everyone here the same, and that's what I really appreciate about you, Y/N. Of course, this all makes a lot of sense to me now that you've told me this. But let me know one more thing, why didn't you travel back with Stiles?"
"I have you guys here, here was my new home. Here I'm a lady-in-waiting and there I'm just a kitchen maid. It wouldn't change my reputation, even if Stiles is now the king. In the eyes of most there at the castle, I will forever remain what I once was. But now, with the knowledge of having a child by him, I don't know if I may have made the wrong decision after all," you admitted, seeing in Adela's face that she could completely feel for you.
"You still have the option to go back to him. You've made a name for yourself here that no one can take away from you, even if you were a kitchen maid in your former life. You have grown up and shown everyone here what a strong personality you have. Without you, I wouldn't be the person I am today. You shaped me a lot, Y/N," she smiled at you and took your hand to squeeze it a little tight, just like Stiles had always done to show you that everything was okay.
"Are you serious?"
"If you really want to go to Stiles, then do it. I'm married now and no longer depend on your help. While it would be nice to continue to have you as one of my best friends here at the castle, I can see how not being able to be with Stiles is weighing on you. I've noticed all these years that something was missing from you, but I never knew what. I thought it was Archie at first, but all this time it's just been Stiles. And don't worry about Claudia, you have us behind your back. We will strengthen you and not let you leave court empty-handed, I promise you that."
"What if Stiles has since found someone and fallen in love all over again? He said his mother was looking for a new wife for him and that was in the winter. It's almost summer now. What if I'm late?" you asked, finally putting out loud the question that had been haunting you for a few days. Of course, you knew that you would never have the chance to marry Stiles. Your reputation just wasn't made for that. But the fear that he might find someone and love them more than you plagued you for several nights.
"You won't know until you find out. There's a ship leaving the port in a few days to go to New Spain. You could be on board. Of course, again, it will take time for you to get there, but I'm sure everything will be fine."
"I didn't even say goodbye to Stiles, I just left him a pathetic letter. I'm sure he was so disappointed in me that he doesn't even want to see me anymore..." you mumbled and got up from the sofa to go to the window. You couldn't sit still any longer, as the conversation with Adela once again threw your whole thoughts into confusion.
"I think when he sees the reason for your visit, he will do anything but send you back. Why don't you take a bath first? I'll let the girls know to run you one. Then you can talk to them again, and I'll sort out everything else if you tell me now that you want to go back. Unless you want to stay here," Adela suggested.
"I want to see Stiles, yes."
Tumblr media
You can't describe the feeling you had when the ship docked at the port of your old home. 71 days had passed since you had boarded the ship with all your belongings. Even though the situation was completely different this time, you felt the same as last time, not knowing what to expect.
Adela had kept her promise and had made sure that all your belongings came on board with you, as well as your papers that you had received from Noah back then. She made sure to add a few words, of course, to make your arrival at the castle easier. After all, not just any random person was allowed to travel to the castle.
Although the thought of seeing Stiles worried you the most, you were also happy to see your family again, should nothing have happened to them in the meantime. But first, you had to make sure that Stiles heard the news. The ship that sailed to New Spain was full of goods and actually only intended as a freight transport, so the longer it took until you could leave the ship and find someone to take care of you there. When the harbor finally emptied, you found a carriage with a nice man who offered to take you to the castle for a few gold coins.
And so you found yourself on the way to the castle. The driver of the carriage recently said that it wouldn't be long since you had been traveling for a while, and yes, he was right. The watch that you had received from Stiles at that time clearly showed that several hours had already passed since your arrival at the harbor and that it was not far to the castle. The surroundings also already seemed familiar to you.
And it wasn't until you had driven past your old village that you were so truly aware that you were back home. You couldn't hold back the few tears that ran down your cheek. After three years, you were back, even though you thought you would never set foot in the country again.
Finally, the time had come, and you could see the castle as you stuck your head out of the carriage window. It was still far away on the horizon, but it was clearly visible. With one hand on your now clearly growing belly and one hand in front of your mouth to suppress possible sobs, you hoped that everything would turn out well for you in the end. At least for you and the baby.
When you finally stood outside the castle and the guards at the gates asked for an invitation, you opened the door to the carriage and pressed into their hands the papers Adela had given you. It said that the Queen of Monaco sent you with the ulterior motive of finding new alliances. And so the gates to the castle opened for you again.
With shaky legs, you got out of the carriage and asked the driver to take your chest with your valuables out of the carriage first, that someone else would then take care of it. He thanked you when you gave him a few more coins and sent him back on his way to the city.
In the courtyard, a few people had already gathered and were watching who arrived at the castle. But you didn't know any of the faces. So you thought of going straight in to look for Stiles there. But on the way there, someone you were very happy to see caught your eye. "Alice!"
Alice stopped at the call of her name, but didn't turn around at first to see who had called out to her. The voice was all too familiar to her, only she didn't dare turn around, thinking it was impossible. "Alice!"
But when she heard you calling for the second time, she finally turned around and dropped the basket she had been holding. And with a leap, set to running in your direction. As good as you could, you came to meet her and threw your arms around her slender body when she finally reached you. You heard Alice start to sob, holding tightly to your robe that you had put on to hide the pregnancy for now.
"Oh, Y/N. It's really you," she murmured after quite a while. "It's really you."
"It's really me," you repeated, holding her an arm's length away from you, "It's so good to see you, Alice."
"What are you doing here? And where have you been all this time? How did you get into the castle?" she asked without taking a breath, looking around frantically. "What if someone sees you?"
"Alice, take a breath," you smiled and grabbed her hand to pull her behind you. Alice reached out for the abandoned basket on the way and followed you across the backyard to the garden, where you sat down by the fountain. "Are you all right?" you asked her first thing, straightening her apron, which was almost coming loose from her dress as the loop became loose. "How have you been the last few years?"
"Not much has changed with me. Helena's gone. She met someone who works a few villages away, and she left the castle when she moved in with him. Since then, I've been here alone at the castle still with the others from the kitchen, you know," she replied, nodding her head towards the kitchen. "But I don't want to talk so much about myself. As I said, not much has changed. But I want to know everything about you. What the hell are you wearing?" she asked, pulling at the robe you were wearing, opening it in the front. And when she saw what you were hiding underneath, she held her breath and looked at you in shock.
"I was in Monaco at the castle, and I was by the side of Adela, the princess there. And yes, by the side means one of the three ladies of her court," you nodded and began your narrative. Starting with the letter Noah had captured for you and how Stiles had visited you over half a year ago. "Adela advised me to return and tell Stiles. He deserves to know about his child, after all."
"I can't believe any of this," Alice said, shaking her head. "Everyone had said you'd probably be working far away in a hull somewhere, if Claudia hadn't foreseen worse things for you. If only we'd known you were all right after all, we wouldn't have worried so much."
"I had tried to write to you, but my letters never reached you all. After that, I had given it up and resigned myself to the fact that my old life was untouchable for me," you replied. "But I couldn't believe it any more than you could. And then one day Stiles stood before me, pretending to be Stephan."
"Stiles had told the castle he had been to Saint Lucia to visit Caroline's family. He was going there to look for a new wife. And all the time he was with you in Monaco," she murmured. She still couldn't believe how lucky you had been.
"He tried to persuade me to come back, but I was just too scared, I think. But now I know I had made a mistake. Actually, I shouldn't have slept with him at all, and I managed to prevent it all the time, except for the last night before he left. That's why I have to go looking for him now."
“As far as I know, they are in the Cabinet Room. I guess they have something to talk about. At least that's what we overheard at noon today when we were preparing lunch," Alice replied. "Oh no, I think I know what they have to talk about."
"Like what?"
"I don't think it was really a complete lie from Stiles when he claimed to be traveling to Saint Lucia. After all, he had only announced he was going to marry Caroline's little sister as soon as she reaches the age now to keep the alliances going. I'm sure they'll discuss it there."
"When was this announced?" you asked in shock, hardly able to believe what Alice had just told you.
"Just a few weeks ago. Right after, he came back from the trip. Caroline's sister's birthday is in a few months, and she'll be ready to enter into the act of marriage, Y/N!"
You nodded and stood up from the bench before closing the robe back in front of your stomach and crossing your arms over it. "Okay then, I better hurry up and actually go see him now. I'll come back by your place later, no matter what, okay?"
"Aren't you afraid of Claudia?"
"Not anymore," you shook your head and looked toward the castle. "I have someone who is very supportive of me through all of this. And if things go wrong, I have plenty of options. I'm more afraid of how Stiles will react after I let him travel back alone."
"Okay, you know where to find me," Alice said before standing up and giving you another tight hug. "I can't wait to tell the others you're back."
You smiled at her as you broke away from her and sent her on her way back to the kitchen. Once again you took a deep breath before making your way to the castle. Your legs trembled as you thought about Stiles getting married again soon.
You held the letters from Adela and her mother tightly in your hands as you walked through the old familiar corridors of the castle, making your way to the Cabinet rooms. Cabinet rooms were made for spending time away from aides and guards, mostly to discuss secret things that really shouldn't concern anyone. And so this was actually the perfect room to tell Stiles that you were pregnant.
Your heart beat faster and faster as you got closer to the room and when you finally stood in front of the doors, you pushed the papers into the guards' hands. One of them briefly read through what was written on it and took one look at you from head to toe. You weren't sure if he recognized you or if he was just surprised that a woman was sent to make alliances. Eventually, he opened the door for you and stepped aside, so you could pass them.
Before heads turned towards the door, you could already see him standing there. Next to the large wooden table, he stood with his crown on next to his mother and the Lord Chancellor, who was already standing by Noah's side. He was the first to see you standing under the door, as he was standing at the table turned directly to you. Shocked, he looked you in the eye before nudging Claudia's arm. And before she could turn to the door, you already entered. Stiles was the next to see you, and he too looked at you in shock. More with joy, though, instead of shock. He could hardly believe that you were standing there in front of him.
"Guards!" was the first thing you heard Claudia yell when she finally spotted you. "Arrest her and throw her into the dungeons! And, yes, fasten the shackles tightly on her!"
"Stop!" you interjected, raising your hand up with the papers. "Before you do anything, you have to know that I am with child. And I am sure that you wouldn't want to be responsible for starving the mother of your future grandchild to death. Also, I think that this here, could be really beneficial for you."
"With child?" you heard Stiles mutter as his mother walked up to you and tore off your robe to expose your belly.
"It can't be. You're telling tall tales," she said, looking at her son.
Stiles ignored his mother and walked around the table to approach you. He put his hands on your stomach and looked you in the eye while saying, "Is it true?"
You nodded and smiled at him. All the fear you had about meeting him and telling him the news were gone when you saw the look on his face. He wasn't angry at all, his features didn't show any hatred or anything like that. "They say there's a very good chance it will be a boy."
"Listen to her Stiles! She's trying to foist a child on you that can never be yours!"
"Mother, that's enough!" finally snapped Stiles at his mother, turning to her. He stood in front of you to protect you and show you that he would be there for you. "I know for a fact that it's my child. After all, I was also the one who visited her in Monaco and put the baby in her. I have never been to Saint Lucia. I had Louis the Envoy handle all that."
"Stiles! How could you?!"
"How could I? How could you send her away then? After all, Father was so helpful and turned everything around, so she could get to a much better place and live at the castle again without you having your fingers in the pie. Who knows how she would have fared in Morea!" Stiles defended himself and warned his mother by gesticulating wildly.
"I've been wondering all along why I haven't heard about her. My contacts in Morea didn't tell me she had never arrived there. Tell me, Missy, what have you been up to that you can wear such a beautiful dress?"
"Don't talk to her like that," Stiles warned his mother, taking a step toward her.
You, however, put a hand on Stiles' shoulder and pushed him a little to the side, so you could walk past him to stand right in front of Claudia. "What I have done is to stand by the Princess of Monaco, to be a friend to her and to help her through difficult times, but also to laugh and celebrate together with her. All this I owe to a good person who has a much bigger heart than you can ever have. What I have done is just be myself, and thus I have managed to be one of Adela II of Monaco's best friends. And that's exactly why I have this with me."
You handed Stiles the papers Adela had given you and gave him a quick nod to assure him that it was good news. Stiles took them from you and removed the band that held the papers together, spreading everything out on the table in front of him. Chancellor Manro took one of the papers and also looked at what was written on them. Claudia just stood there and watched the whole event. She didn't like this happening at all.
Stiles skimmed the papers and couldn't believe his eyes at what he had in front of him, neither could Chancellor Manro. "This is incredible. That would be worth so much more than anything else."
"What's going on here?" asked Claudia finally, squeezing in next to Stiles to skim the documents as well.
Meanwhile, you took Stiles' arm and pulled him aside a bit, so you could ask him something undisturbed. Stiles took your hand and accompanied you to the other side of the room and opened a door that led to another room where you could be completely undisturbed. He closed the door behind him and looked you up and down again. "I thought I was really never going to see you again this time, Y/N."
"I was also convinced not to come, but the situation did not make it easy for me to stay in Monaco," you answered.
Stiles walked back to you and put a hand on your belly again, because he still couldn't believe that you were pregnant with his child. He also had no doubt that it was his child. He didn't insinuate that you were possibly trying to foist it on him, no way. "I'm grateful to you for coming here and letting me be a part of this."
"I don't want this child to grow up without a father, Stiles. I know how hard it was growing up without a mother and I don't want our child to have to go through that," you confessed to him, placing your hand on his that still lingered on your stomach. "Is it true? Is it true that you're going to marry Caroline's sister?"
"Yes," Stiles murmured, looking down at the floor. He was silent after that, not daring to look at you. Even though the news, hit you hard again, you had expected it and somehow also resigned yourself to the fact that you just weren't made for each other. That's why you didn't come back with him and continued to go your own way. Maybe you could live with the fact that you were not the woman at his side. Why your view had changed so much was what was growing in your gut right now.
"Marry me."
Stiles lifted his head as he made the statement and looked you in the eye to see your reaction. But you just looked at him with wide eyes and had your mouth open a little. You had to process what words had come out of his mouth first, because you had never expected those two words. "What?"
"Let's get married, already tomorrow. The priest can leave right away tomorrow morning, and then we can be married by the evening. We can-"
"Is that what you really want?"
"That's all I've ever wanted, Y/N. Only I thought it would never be possible. But now I'm the king, no one can tell me what I can and can't do, not mother or anyone else. If I want to marry you, I will. I don't care what anyone else thinks or says. All that matters is that we want this, that you want this... Do you even want this, Y/N?" asked Stiles, taking your hands in his. "Do you want to marry me?"
Although you had to process what Stiles had just said, you nodded quickly and felt the smile spread across your face. "Yes. Yes!"
Stiles smiled back and wrapped his arms around your body. You hugged him tightly and buried your face in his shoulder, where you first took a deep breath to understand what had just happened. The whole trip back home, where you were shaking so much because you didn't know how everything would turn out for you, had paid off. You would leave that room with so much more than you could ever dream of.
"I can't believe I'm really going to have you with me forever now," Stiles whispered, kissing your temple while still holding you close.
"And what are we going to do about your mother? She'll never accept this," you asked him as you broke away from him again. Stiles put his hands on your cheeks and held your face like that, so you could just look at him and not have the chance to look away.
"Let me worry about that. You just saw Manro's reaction. I'm going to use that to convince him that this is the only right idea. The papers you brought from Adela are worth a lot. An alliance with Monaco, which also has France behind it, is strong. So we would have one of the biggest countries in the Middle East on our side. This alliance would strengthen us much more than one with Saint Lucia. Mother will just not know that there is a wedding tomorrow. I will send her to the city with the belief of organizing something for the wedding with Caroline's sister. And by the time she gets back, it will be almost too late," Stiles replied, nodding several times as he told you so.
"Okay," you mumbled, taking one of his hands in yours to squeeze it tightly twice. Stiles laughed briefly when he noticed you mimicking his typical gesture and squeezed tightly twice as well. "It's going to be okay."
"Everything will be fine," he repeated, looking toward the door. "I think someone outside will be happy to see you, too."
"What do you mean?"
"Your father. He is still working here at the castle. After mother kicked him out as well, the first thing I did was bring him back. So I did with your sister, she takes care of the farm horses with the others," Stiles replied.
"You did that?"
"Of course. Your family wasn't doing too well when you had to leave, and so I didn't want them to have to work in the village for little pay, so I brought them both here and made sure they were doing as well as possible."
You shook your head, unable to believe what a kind person Stiles is. Even though you were miles away, and he didn't even know where you were, he was making sure your family was okay. You couldn't hold back anymore and walked up to Stiles again and finally kissed him. Stiles smiled into the kiss before deepening it and hugging you tightly to him. "The secrecy is over now, Y/N."
You broke away from him and stroked his cheek once before walking back to the door and opening it. Claudia was still standing there with Chancellor Manro, arguing with him loudly, though you ignored that and just walked past them, Claudia calling out to you several times. You heard Stiles say something to her as you walked past the guards outside, but not before Stiles made sure of something else. "Y/N has the right to walk anywhere in the castle and go inside where ever she wants to, do you understand, guards?"
It was as if you had never left the castle. You knew the paths here at the castle by heart and always knew exactly where to go to get to your destination. However, it took a while until you could spot your father. After all, it was already late, and he could have been on his way home, but when you made a detour into the castle garden, you saw him sitting on a bench while eating a sandwich, and fortunately he was not alone. Because next to your father sat your sister, who was eating the bread together with him.
A smile spread across your face as you saw the two of them sitting there so happily together. Both of them had probably had a great day here at the castle and were now sharing their stories with each other, it looked like. So you walked closer to them and saw your sister raise her head when she saw someone coming in her field of vision. Her facial expression changed so rapidly that tears could only well up in your eyes, and you could see her slap your father on the arm with one hand so that he, too, would look in your direction. He raised his head and dropped his bread in fright. You came closer and closer to the two, but before you could take the last steps towards them, your father stood up and ran to you. He was so euphoric that he couldn't get a word out, so he wrapped you in his arms, where you could only hear his sobs, and shortly afterwards you felt another pair of arms wrap around your body.
"Y/N," you heard your sister whimper as you too took her tightly in your arms. Tears ran down your cheeks, so you couldn't get a single word out and just held them both tightly in your arms.
"I thought I would never see you again," your father said after he finally managed to pull himself together.
"Believe me, that's what I said," you confessed, breaking away from their embrace.
Your sister immediately knew what was going on and opened your robe to see your belly, and although she could guess it, she gasped out loud once. Your father followed her gaze and could clearly see that you were pregnant. He smiled at you and stroked your cheek with his hand. He was so happy to see you, especially to see that you were doing so well. All the while he could only hope that his request back then with Noah could do some good, but seeing you standing there in front of him like that, he knew Noah had done everything he could to make sure you would be okay.
"That reminds me, Father. Will you walk me down the aisle?"
"Y/N, what?" stammered your father, not understanding what was going on. "Is the child's father somewhere here? Did you two travel here?"
"I've always been here," you heard Stiles, who had been watching the whole thing from a distance. The three of you turned and watched Stiles approach you until he stopped beside you. Your father and sister greeted him appropriately, though they still didn't understand what was going on.
"I don't really understand," your sister mumbled as she looked back and forth between you and Stiles.
"There's a lot to talk about," Stiles answered for you, taking your hand in his. "But why don't we go inside together? It'll be dark soon, and then it'll get nippy out here pretty quick, too."
"Okay," your father replied before grabbing his bag. Your sister was still very shocked and confused and just followed you two while you put your free arm around her shoulders and hugged her tightly to you as you walked into the castle together.
Tumblr media
"I still can't believe you're about to marry Stiles," Alice said as she helped you with the final details.
"I even less so. I really expected anything yesterday morning, but not this. There was no way I was thinking of standing here now, waiting for the moment that I could become Stiles' wife.... Do you know how often I used to wish for that even though I knew it would never be a reality? I used to lie in bed at night and imagine what it would be like to live here at the castle as Stiles' wife."
"And now it's just reality," Alice finished the sentence just before there was a knock at the door.
The guards opened the door and let your father in, who for the first time in his life was not wearing his work clothes here at the castle, but had been freshened up by Stiles himself and given his own clothes.
"You look fantastic, Y/N," was all your father brought out as he looked at you. You smiled at him and took one last look at yourself in the mirror before Alice asked you to bend over, so she could put the hair ornament on you.
"Thank you," you replied, giving her another tight hug before leaving the room with your father to go to the great hall. "And before I forget...this room is yours from now on."
"What?" asked Alice in shock, looking at you with wide eyes. "You mean... does that mean... I get to live here at the castle now?"
"Of course," you replied, looking around the room. "You more than deserve it, Alice."
Alice smiled at you and jumped into your arms one last time. "Now go out there and show them that a princess or queen doesn't always have to marry a king! Show them what kind of woman you are!"
So with your torso erect and a proud grin on your lips, you walked up to your father and hooked your arm around his. And no matter how many times that thought crossed your mind last night, you couldn't stop thinking about it. If even one person had told you five years ago that you would one day marry Stiles, you would have laughed coldly at that person and asked them if they were okay, even though it had always been your greatest wish at the time.
Your father sensed that you were deep in thought and decided to walk with you towards the hall in a comfortable silence. For him, too, it was all so sudden, without warning, and now he suddenly had the opportunity to live at the castle where he had always worked almost all his life. Nevertheless, he had decided to move with your sister to the house on the hill, which was still on the grounds of the castle, but he could have his peace there.
Your life had improved a bit more than three years ago, but now the leap from lady-in-waiting to wife of the king and thus to become queen was a much bigger leap. One that you first had to get used to. Stiles assured you last night that he would teach you everything little by little over time, but that you should concentrate completely on the pregnancy for the time being. After all, he didn't want to catch you off guard and over stress you, either. After all, that wouldn't wear well on the baby.
So now you were standing just outside the great hall, where you could already hear the music and knew that it would only be one or two more steps until you could see Stiles. You were more excited than afraid. You didn't care what the others could possibly think, as long as you kept your eyes firmly on Stiles, everything would be fine.
"Ready?" your father asked you, hearing you take one deep breath.
"Ready for a better life, Father," you replied, smiling at him once more before you walked through the large gates and your eyes met Stiles'.
Stiles' smile was unmistakable, he was beaming from ear to ear, because finally the woman he had always wanted to marry was standing in front of him in an unbelievably beautiful white dress, making her way to become his wife.
And so it happened that once a simple kitchen maid married her great love, the king of one of the greatest countries.
The End

The sky was dim and cloudy, giving the appearance that it was about to rain - although, if you lived here you knew the little water droplets would never come. The air was empty and cold, too, leaving goose bumps on my arms like the crunch in a crunch bar. I push open the large doors to my modern apartment building and walk inside, letting the warm hit my skin aggressively. A few more steps in and I’m at the large, black elevators. I press the button until it turns red and wait for the elevator to come and take me back up to the eleventh floor. I finally hear a ding that indicates to me the elevator is about to open. Once the doors pry wide, I can see two people standing with each other and a cart to carry boxes. They both look exhausted - mentally and physically.
I furrow my eyebrows as I recognize who it is I’m staring at. He looks up just as the word falls out of my mouth with surprise, “Fred?” The lean man looks at me with a soft smile, his brown eyes growing lighter. “Y/N?” He moves past the cart to reach out to me. I graciously take his sign of happiness and engulf him into a long hug. The hug couldn’t have lasted for much longer than 30 seconds before an uncomfortable cough comes from the woman who stood next to him moments ago. “Karen, this is an old… friend from high school… Y/N. Y/N, this is my… wife, Karen.” He looks back at me with a particular expression that lets me know Karen has no clue who I actually was to him and probably shouldn’t ever know - an ex. I nod my head regardless, “Are you two helping someone move in?” Karen shakes her head, stepping forward with the cart and grabbing Fred’s hand. “No, we actually just moved in ourselves.” I nod and smile, “That’s great! Looks like we’re new neighbors, then.” Fred shifts for a moment, trying to contain his emotions. “What floor are you?” I look up from the floor at Karen’s words, “I live on eleven. Apartment G.” They both nod, “We’re on eleven too,” Fred smiles. I nod my head once more, holding my hand in the elevator so that it doesn’t leave without me. “I guess that means I’ll see you both around then.” They both smile politely as I wave my hand carefully and retreat into the elevator with a soft smile.
A short ride later and I’m walking to my apartment. I find myself wondering which one is his with each door I pass. I sigh to myself as I reach my door. I loved my apartment. It was gorgeous and I spent a lot of time, effort, and money to make this place the home it is now. But that didn’t change the heartbreak I suddenly felt all over again from when Fred and I broke up years ago. I remember it was right before we graduated college and we had both realized two very big things. 1, we were going to different places in life. 2, our whole relationship was based on drug use and merc. So, we mutually agreed to end things. He was ready for marriage and kids, rehab - I was ready to travel the world and make new experiences, never stop. Of course, I eventually did stop taking merc along with every other drug in the book except the occasional alcoholic beverage and caffeine, of course. I also traveled everywhere I wanted. I met new people, made new experiences, and became, honestly, a whole new person. But I became that person too late. Now, Fred is just the one who got away.
I set my purse down on the kitchen bar top for a second. I look at the white and black marble, tracing the lines to ease my mind. I shake my head and rub my face with my hands before moving to grab a bottle of wine and a glass and then head into the bathroom. I turn my tub on to let it fill up. I strip down from my clothes and long day and hop in after all the bubbles have puffed up; placing each step into the large white tub carefully. I take a big gulp from the bottle and slump into the tub deeper. Seeing Fred is both the best and worst thing to have happened to me today. I think seeing him has just confirmed that I still love him and I still want him - making it very bittersweet to see him in front of me.
I want him to look at me the way he used to. To hold my hand. To hold me when I’m sad. To touch me. I want him to touch me. I bit my lip as I cradled the glass of wine in my hands. A sigh released my mouth as I put the glass down on the side of the tub carefully. If I’m going to think about Fred this way, I might as well put it to good use… I slipped one hand down into the water and closed my eyes as I began rubbing circles, picturing his hand where mine is. His tongue entangled with my own. My hands wrapped up in his hair as he nips at my neck and breasts. The feeling of him growing quickly as our bath together gets more and more heated. The heat inside of me burns brighter and brighter until, suddenly, a knock bursts me out of my bubble.
I sigh in the tone of sexual frustration as I grab a nearby towel to dry myself off before throwing a robe on. I drain my tub, deciding that maybe bath time was not what I needed, and walk out into the living room. I place the more than half empty bottle of wine on the kitchen counter and carry my glass over to the front door.
The tall brunette is revealed from behind the door as I open it swiftly. I straighten up with wide eyes at the surprise of the man I craved. “Hi…” I speak breathlessly. Fred smiles, “Can I come in?” I nod my head kindly before moving out of the way and letting him take a seat on the couch. I walk back over to the kitchen and put my glass down next to the bottle. “Do you want a glass of wine?” Fred turns to watch me as I reach for another glass on the top shelf of the cabinets. He takes a moment to answer as he watches my robe lift higher and higher. “Uh, yeah, sure.” “Here you go.” I smile, handing him the glass before sitting down with mine in the chair diagonal to him. “So, what brings you here?” Fred kept his eyes on the glass swirling between his hands for a second longer before adjusting and looking at me. “You.” I tilt my head slightly in confusion, “I mean, I assumed that, Fred… But why?” He put his glass down on a coaster near him as he stood up and moved closer to me while still staying on the couch. “Y-you can’t tell Karen about us.” I furrow my eyebrows. Fred continues, “She can’t know about our past… about merc…” I nod my head, suddenly realizing what he was saying. “She doesn’t know?” Fred sighed as he shook his head. “Y/N/N, she doesn’t know anything up until she and I met…” I nod my head once more. “Okay…” I stand up slowly, grabbing my glass off the table and finishing it quickly. “Fred, this feels like a lot of lies to have with your wife.” I hear his footsteps come towards me slowly as the wine fills my glass once more tonight. He grabs the bottle out of my hand from behind me and spins me around to look at him. We haven’t been this physically close since the day we broke up. “You’re still so damn stunning.” I look at his eyes back and forth in disbelief. “You’re not supposed to compliment other girls when you’re married.” He nods his head, speaking softly before dipping his head closer to mine, “You’re not supposed to kiss them either…”

Never before in your life have you run so fast. But also never before you had to run so fast. Having to run was a bit exaggerated, but you had no other choice. You couldn't stand there in the hall any longer and listen to the bawling from the throne hall. Everyone was happy for the future king and queen, everyone except you.
In five days, you would have to watch Stiles say yes to another woman he didn't love. Everything you had ever hoped for, no matter how far away the dreams were for you, was snatched away from you today.
Still with your hand in front of your mouth, trying to suppress several sobs, you ran back to the courtyard. Tears were already streaming down your cheeks and gathering on your hand. The many tears limited your vision and so it happened that you stumbled and fell. That was the moment when you collapsed. You didn't care who saw you like this. You didn't care about anything.
You couldn't hold back your sobs anymore and so you whimpered loudly in the courtyard of the castle. You didn't even realize that Alice had followed you and was trying to pull you up, but she couldn't do it without your help. "Y/N, come on, not here. Anyone could see you here."
"I don't care," you whined, trying to knock Alice's hand away. Luckily, to Alice's help, Helena came running and saw the situation. She helped Alice to lift you up from the floor and dragged you into the next room where you could be undisturbed. Alice and Helena lowered you back down and knelt on the floor in front of you.
You were so out of it that you didn't even notice that they had taken you to the pantry, and you were sitting on a sack of potatoes. "Y/N, you need to breathe. Take a deep breath, you're going to panic," Helena talked to you however it didn't seem to help.
You buried your face in your hands and tried to shut off everything around you. Even your thoughts, but that was impossible. Again and again you heard the voices of your father and Katherine, how they kept telling you not to meet Stiles so often. If you had listened to them now, you wouldn't be in this situation. Sometimes it would have been better if you hadn't had your own way.
There you had the mess. Maybe it wouldn't have come to this and you never would have fallen in love with Stiles. And even if you had, maybe you never would have gotten your hopes up like you usually did. Maybe he would never have noticed you and maybe he would never have fallen in love with you. But all those maybes remain just maybes too.
"Y/N, talk to us," Alice begged you, putting her hand on your knee. Helena, meanwhile, fumbled in her apron and handed you her handkerchief so you could use it to wipe the tears from your face and blow your nose. You took it from her and tried as best you could to give her a smile. However, the look on Alice's face showed you that it was anything but a smile. "You look terrible."
"I feel awful, too," you finally replied, though in fragments, as best you could. "I just... I want... I want that to not be true."
Your eyes were bloodshot and your nose was red too, as if you'd been crying for hours, meanwhile it had only been a few minutes.
"Y/N," Alice said softly, squeezing her hand on your knee a little to get your attention. "I know this is going to sound harsh, but you were never meant to be by Stiles' side and you know it. Maybe it's better this way. You'll gain distance from him and your crush on him will fade over time."
"That's anything but having a little crush, Alice!" you said angrily, looking at her for the first time. "You have no idea what we've been through!"
"A few times meeting in secret for a few minutes? Listen to yourself, Y/N. Stiles is going to be spending a lot of time with Caroline in the future and-"
"Stiles and I have slept together several times, okay?!" you almost yell at your friends, receiving shocked looks on their faces. No one knew but you and Stiles. Sure, your girlfriends knew you saw each other more than once, but they had no clue how intimate you were with each other. "Stiles was the one who took my virginity, and I took his! Just a few days ago I was back in his room and spent the night with him there together! You guys have no idea!"
"You know how dangerous that is!" argued Helena with you. She couldn't believe the news and was on the one hand shocked that you and Stiles were so intimate with each other, but on the other hand somewhat glad to know that Stiles had also developed these feelings for you, and they weren't just one-sided. She felt that you had talked yourself into a lot of things and that Stiles was possibly taking advantage of you, too.
"Not if you do it right! Stiles knows exactly when it's safe. He's learned when the right time for women is when they're fertile and when they're not! We know exactly what we're doing!"
"Don't you know," Helena tried to tell you. "What if someone catches you? Even if he knows when the right time is and when it's not, what if someone catches you? Y/N, you don't even want to know what kind of penalties you could face."
"I still can't believe it," Alice muttered, still kneeling on the floor in front of you. "How do you even make it into the castle at night?"
"The tunnels under the castle. Stiles showed me how to use them to get out of his place in the hallway back then. Since then, I sneak there more often at night," you replied. Alice pressed her lips together and shook her head slightly.
"That's so dangerous, Y/N. There are guards everywhere and at night all the lords are on their way to the village to go to the women's houses there. If someone had seen you, they would have thought you were one of them. I don't even want to know what they would have done to you."
"But it never came to that. We were very careful," you replied, and you could feel the blood boiling in your body. Your friends didn't want to understand you and apparently couldn't either.
"It's going to happen eventually, though!" added Helena, shaking her head as well.
"You've got to stop this, Y/N. Now more than ever! Stiles is going to have to share a room with Caroline."
"That's a forced marriage! She'll get her own empire for sure," you hissed, turning your head away from your friends to stop looking at them.
"Listen to yourself. You don't really think there's a future for you two, do you? Now I understand why you thought you could be his mistress too. You need to get that out of your head. Forget Stiles, he doesn't deserve you," Helena argued with you a little louder.
"You guys just don't get it! Have you guys even been really in love before? So much that you feel like a piece of your soul is ripped out every time you have to say goodbye to that person? You don't know what it's like to see that person laughing, it fills your heart so much that you don't want to see or hear anything else in the world! So much that you don't want to live without this person anymore! You have no idea!" you yelled at your friends by now.
Alice winced at every other sentence you said, you had definitely intimidated her, and she realized there was no point to any of this. You had already gotten the idea of loving the prince way too deep in your head. She didn't know how to help you anymore. Helena, on the other hand, wouldn't give up and kept trying to convince you to give up Stiles. "And in this case, I'm glad not to know. I'd rather be a virgin for several more years than put myself in danger every time."
"Just leave me alone," you hissed at her, slapping Alice's hand off your knee. "I want to be alone now, and I don't need to be told anything by you. You can save it."
"Y/N, you know we only want the best for you," Alice sighed as she looked at you sadly, coming up from the floor to stand next to Helena. "I don't care. Leave me alone, please."
Helena jabbed her elbow into Alice's body to indicate that now was really the moment to leave you alone. Alice looked at her friend, asking for help, but she just shook her head and turned to the door to leave the pantry. "Come on, let's go."
"We'll be back at the castle if you're looking for us," Alice said before following Helena and letting the door fall behind her.
As soon as you heard the door, you burst into tears again, but this time it was more out of anger. You were angry that your friends didn't understand you, angry about the whole situation. You threw away the handkerchief Helena had given you out of anger and buried your face in your hands while the tears ran down your cheeks again.
Everything hurt. Your legs from running, your knees from falling, your neck from crying and your cheeks from wiping so many tears, but most of all your heart hurt, and you didn't know how you would ever recover from it. And while you looked there in the pantry and cried your heart out, you didn't even notice what else was going on in the castle.
The guests had taken their seats and were stuffing their stomachs with the dishes you had prepared. Everyone was celebrating the great news that the queen and king had announced, the atmosphere was great, each of the guests was happy and toasted to the good of the country, everyone except Stiles.
Stiles would have liked to run after you as soon as he saw that you had run out of the castle. He also saw the shocked looks of your friends looking at him. He wasn't sure at first if they were looking at him in shock because of the news, or because you had left so abruptly. But when they ran after you, he knew it was because of you.
But Stiles couldn't just leave the meeting. He had to fulfill his duties and speak up as well. "I, too, can only speak of pure joy to have a woman like Caroline by my side soon. Together with her, we have a perfect alliance with Saint Lucia. This alliance will help us a lot in difficult times. I am happy to be able to rule over the country very soon. But we don't want to keep you waiting too long. We have made sure that you will get the best feast we can offer you. Enjoy the meal! And don't miss out on the wonderful wine!"
Stiles literally felt sick as the words came out of his mouth. He had been rehearsing them all day, hoping that they would come out as naturally as possible. And it seemed to work. The guests cheered again and slowly started to approach the table where you were standing a few minutes ago. But there was still no trace of you and your friends.
Forced to sit at the table for the next hour, Stiles poked at his plate while everyone partied like crazy. The wine was getting less and less, showing that many had a few glasses of it by now and were starting to feel the side effects. Stiles looked around and saw his mother standing deeply involved in a conversation across the room, Caroline laughing along with his father at a story he told from the war. This was his chance, and he had to take it. Stiles had to come after you and find you. So he excused himself to the guests still seated next to him and headed off in the direction you had disappeared.
He ran down the hall towards the kitchen, hoping to see you there somewhere, but when he opened the door into the kitchen, he only looked into astonished faces. No one had expected the prince himself to show up. He had been seen there often as a small child, but the older he got, the more his mother forbade him to spend time there. Stiles smiled kindly at the workers and thanked them for the delicious feast. He also assured everyone that they would not have to worry about their jobs, and he could see the relief on their faces. After making sure he hadn't seen you or your friends in the kitchen, Stiles left the kitchen and headed for the meadows. At this time, just before sunset, the chickens were always brought into the coop to protect them from the wolves. Maybe he would find someone there. He didn't care by now if anyone would see him. Soon he would be king of the land, then he could get away with anything and if he ever wanted to go to the coop, nothing would stop him.
And as Stiles had thought, he actually found one of your friends there. He couldn't remember her name, but he had seen her often enough to recognize her immediately. He tapped gently on the wood of the stall to get her attention and leaned against the door. Your friend, Alice, flinched briefly and turned toward the door where she could see Stiles. She recognized his worried look and wanted to turn her back on him, but she couldn't do that in front of her future king. Even though he might be different. She brushed the dirt away from her apron and then stood up straight, just as they had been taught should one speak to the royal family.
"You don't have to do that," Stiles assured her, pointing to her apron. Alice nodded and picked up the basket again, which she had dropped in fright. Stiles hadn't even noticed, he was far too busy trying to find you. "Have you seen Y/N, by any chance?"
"No, your highness," Alice replied. She knew you certainly didn't want to see him, either. After all, she hadn't seen you in a while now, either. She assumed you were still looking in the pantry.
"I said you didn't have to do that. By that, I mean etiquette, too," Stiles said, turning once when he heard someone approaching behind him. He recognized the girl immediately, too. It was your other friend.
"I can guess that she doesn't want to see me, but I'd like to explain everything to her myself before maybe the situation doesn't arise to do it anymore. Are you sure you haven't seen her?" he asked again, looking first at Alice and then at Helena.
Helena shook her head, not to deny Stiles' question, but rather to warn Alice. Alice put her head back and closed her eyes before taking one deep breath. She was in a quandary and couldn't make up her mind. She had always been the weakest of the trio and was quick to give in. Stiles could see right through that. "I just want to talk to her for a minute," he said.
"She's in the pantry," Alice pronounced quickly, only opening her eyes again afterwards. She saw a brief smile on Stiles' face and an annoyed look from Helena, who was still standing behind Stiles. Alice pressed her lips together, unsure if she had done the right thing or not. "But you didn't get that from me."
"I promise you," Stiles replied, saying goodbye to the two girls before heading to the pantry.
You didn't know how much time had passed since you had holed up here in the pantry. Alice and Helena were long gone, but still, you sat in there and had to deal with the news. At least you had stopped crying, but that was probably only because there were no more tears. You had cried it all out.
The door of the pantry opened, and you wondered who would come in so late. The staff would have been busy cleaning out the kitchen instead of looking at the supplies. You lifted your head to look at who was entering the room, and your heart stopped when you saw the face of Stiles.
"Go away, Stiles," you muttered, turning your back on the door. When you had said to your friends a few minutes ago that you would like to be alone, you really meant alone. Not even Stiles did you want to see right now.
Stiles ignored your request, though, and walked further into the pantry until he was standing behind you. He put his hand on your shoulder to get your attention, but found that you really didn't want to see him. Eventually, you slapped his hand away and stood up jerkily to walk away from him. As you did so, he heard you struggling with tears, even though you thought it was finally over, and you couldn't cry anymore. Stiles knew how stubborn you could be and decided to take a seat on the sack of potatoes himself and let you have your peace for now.
He watched you stand against the wall, resting your hand on the cold wall to lean against. Your other hand brushed the tears from your face that were forming again before you buried them deep in your apron. It was quiet between you for a long time, no one dared to start talking. You had hoped that he would eventually give it up and leave, but that wasn't the case. Stiles stayed in the room with you the whole time.
At some point, he had enough and stood up to come closer to you, but the hand you raised to make it clear that he should not come closer stopped him, and he accepted it. Despite everything, he stood much closer to you, so close that you could hear him breathing.
"Y/N, I-"
"I should have known it would come to this," you interrupted him, finally looking at him. Stiles cringed inwardly when he saw your red eyes. They were already swollen from all the crying and your nose was all red too, your cheeks still glowing in the dusk from the tears on them. "But still, I didn't think it would tear me apart the way it has now."
Stiles didn't know what he wanted to say to that. He knew that anything he would say would only make it worse. Even he had fooled himself, even he knew it was going to come to this one day, and yet he couldn't keep his hands off you.
"At the moment I don't even know what I find worse, the thought of losing you to another woman, or that I had to experience it this way. I thought that if that day ever came, you would tell me yourself, but that I had to find out through your mother at a meeting like this makes it worse. If I hadn't been up there, would you have told me at all? Or would I have found out through others in the castle? Probably even from other employees in the kitchen. Stiles, I... I don't know how I'm going to recover from this again," you rattled down, gesticulating wildly with your arms, your pitch rising a bit as well.
"I'm sorry, Y/N. I wish I could have told you in person, but I didn't get another chance to really leave the castle. My mother had me-"
"So you knew that a few days ago would be the last time we made love? Is that why you were so different with me?" you interrupted him, looking at him with sadness in your eyes.
"The last time? Y/N! No one has found out yet, and no one will find out. I promised you then that you would remain my secret. Yes, I already knew it at that time, maybe that's why I seemed different to you, but my love for you hasn't changed because of that!"
"Are you serious?" you asked him.
"I've never been that serious about anything before, Y/N. You are the most important thing to me here at the castle, without you, I would drive myself crazy. You've always been there for me when I wasn't feeling well, showing me how it feels to be loved and what it's like to love someone so much yourself. It is you, you are my person. No matter who comes, you will always come first," he assured you, taking a step closer. He reached out his hand to you and looked at you with pleading eyes. You gulped and took his hand in yours.
"I may not have as much time to see you as king of the castle, but I will always make time for you, no matter what. And you won't lose me for any other woman either, you are far too important to me for that," he murmured, resting his forehead on yours. "And I love you far too much for that."
You smiled a little and looked deep into his eyes. Stiles put his hand on your cheek and closed the distance between the two of you by kissing you. You grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled him closer to you, so Stiles couldn't help himself, and wrapped his other hand around your body. His tongue touched your bottom lip, and you let him in. Who knew when the next time might be that you could kiss him like that again.
"I'm still mad at you, though," you murmured against his lips as you pulled away from him to catch your breath.
"I know, and I'll make it up to you," he said, giving you another kiss before taking a step back from you to look at you completely for once. He ran both of his hands over your cheeks again to wipe away the last traces of tears before taking your hand in his and giving you a kiss on the back of your hand.
"I have to get back. Otherwise, someone will notice I'm gone so long. Why don't you come to the Magnolia Tree tomorrow before you prepare supper, okay? Then we can talk about all this again, okay?"
You nodded and jumped into his arms one last time, wrapping your arms tightly around his shoulders while your feet just barely touched the ground. Stiles put his arms around you and hugged you tightly to him. Everything almost felt like normal again, but only almost. Maybe it was the thought that you would have to share Stiles from now on, or that he wouldn't be able to spend as much time with you. But none of you could have guessed that all this time someone was standing at the door watching everything.
A new day had dawned and with pure anticipation, you stood in the kitchen to prepare breakfast for the royal family. Only last night you would never have expected that you would stand here again so happy. Even your friends were visibly surprised to see you in this state. They hadn't seen you yesterday and were very worried, they didn't expect to see you here again.
"You look happy," Alice whispered as she stood next to you with no one around to hear your conversation. "I fully expected not to see you here again for a while."
"I thought so too, but Stiles was still with me after he found me. I think you told him where I was, didn't you?" you asked Alice, diligently continuing to cut the onions while Alice nodded beside you. "But everything is fine. He assured me that everything will stay the same. No one will be able to replace me, he said."
"I'm glad to see you happy after all you must have felt yesterday. But I'm still not so sure if that's really what's going to make you happy in the long run. Are you sure that's what you want?"
"I've never been happier, Alice. It shows me that I am more important to him than not just any woman, but more important than his future wife and therefore queen of the land," you replied, and only now did you realize how much you really meant to him. You had been having the thoughts all night, but only now, when you had said them out loud, did you realize their true meaning.
"Stiles and I will have another quiet meeting later, and then he can tell me everything and explain. I was too upset yesterday, and Stiles had to get back to the castle before it could be noticed that he had sneaked away," you told additionally. Somehow you were glad that your friends now knew how far the relationship with you and Stiles had progressed and that you could always tell someone about it. You knew you could trust your friends with anything, and they wouldn't tell anyone to take advantage of it themselves.
The door to the kitchen, which was already open, suddenly banged against the wall behind her as if someone had hit or kicked it. Everyone in the room was startled and quickly looked at the entrance to the kitchen. There were two guards there, who looked at all the employees once, as if they were looking for someone. And that was confirmed quite quickly.
"We're looking for Y/N Y/L/N."- You held your breath and looked at the guards in shock. Alice next to you did the same, but still dropped her knife in her hand. The guards then looked at her and must have thought that this reaction could only come from the person you were looking for, whereupon they entered the kitchen completely and ran towards you as well. "Y/N, we have received orders to take you to the castle. You have the choice to follow us voluntarily, or we will make sure you do."
Still, you looked at the guards in shock. Not only because they were looking for you, but also because they had said all this to Alice and were standing in front of her. You were so shocked that you couldn't make a sound, and now you had to watch them grab Alice by the arm because she claimed not to be you. The guards thought it was a ploy to avoid being taken away, so they grabbed her arm to keep her from being dragged into the castle. Alice cried out when the guards held her too tightly and begged them to let her go.
Only Alice's scream brought you back to reality. "I'm Y/N, not her!" screamed loudly. The guards turned their heads to look at you, and one of them let go of Alice. "Is that right?" he asked into the room, looking at everyone else, who nodded silently. The guard this time grabbed you by the upper arm and squeezed so hard that you had no choice but to follow him. The second guard also let go of Alice and grabbed your other arm. Here there was no more talk of voluntarily following.
Everyone looked at you in shock as you were dragged out of the kitchen by the two men. Alice almost had tears in her eyes, it already felt like an attack on you. The guards dragged you out of the kitchen into the hallway of the castle without even explaining what they were doing, and from the way the two of them were going, you could already guess where they were taking you. After all, it was an order to get you. Still, you couldn't help asking where they were taking you. "Where are you taking me?"
"No one told you that you could talk, kitchen assistant," said one of them, squeezing his hand on your arm even tighter, so that a short scream went out of you. The other guard then squeezed even tighter and both of them stepped up a gear to get to their destination faster, or should you say, to get to the Throne Hall quickly. The closer you got to the room, the faster your heart began to race. There could only be one reason why you were dragged there, but you couldn't explain why or who knew about it. You were already expecting the worst, yet you were still in a calm state. Maybe it wasn't that bad and it all had another reason. What if something happened to my father?!
Suddenly, you were no longer calm and relaxed. You began to sweat and tremble. Each step towards Throne Hall became heavier for you, and your feet slowly gave way. The guards sensed this and literally dragged you along until they were standing in front of the door of throne hall. Two more guards opened the large doors and with a swish you were on your knees. With a force you couldn't have expected, you were thrown into the room and thus landed on the floor. Your head was still down. The fear of looking up was too great.
"Mother, what's going on?" you heard Stiles' voice and looked up in a flash. Gathered in front of you were: Stiles, his mother, Stiles' future wife and a few more residents of the castle who had something to say. No sign of the king.
"I think you've been taught to behave properly in front of the queen!" the queen said loudly, catching your attention. Full of fear, you pushed yourself up from the floor and stood in front of the queen with your hands behind your back. You didn't want to let anyone see how scared you were, and your trembling hands would only show it.
"Yes, my highness. I beg your pardon," you replied, looking back down at the floor. You were too intimidated by the whole situation.
"What the hell is going on, Mother?!" repeated Stiles. He was just as shocked by the whole situation here as you were, and so were many. "I want an answer from you now."
"Maybe you can answer it for yourself, son. What's so special about this kitchen staff?"
"I don't understand what you mean," Stiles lied to his mother, meanwhile not dignifying you with a glance in hopes of making it more believable. "I don't even know her, and I wasn't aware she worked in the kitchen until just now."
"Enough with the lies, Stiles!" the queen yelled at her son. You winced at the shout and squinted up through your eyelashes to see what was going on in front of them, but continued to keep your head down. "Why else would the lovely Caroline here come running to me last night just to tell me that my son was sleeping with a kitchen maid behind the back of the entire castle!"
"Mother, I-"
"I want to know the truth! And if you won't give it to me, then I'll squeeze it out of her," she interrupted Stiles, running down the steps from the throne to you until she stood in front of and lifted your head, so you could look her straight in the eye. "Tell me, what connection do you have with my son?"
You swallowed and could feel the tears coming. All of this was so enormous.
"I asked you a question and I hope you can answer it honestly. If I find out you're lying, it won't end well for you or your father, who is also employed here at the castle, right? Where is he, by the way?" she asked, looking past you at the guards behind you.
"He's on his way here, Queen," one of the guards answered.
So, this was a very serious situation, if it already involved your father. She wanted to make sure that you were really telling the truth and not telling her a tall tale.
Your eyes wandered behind the queen, where Caroline stood next to Stiles with a knowing grin on her face. You couldn't explain how she knew all that, unless Stiles had told her about it to let her know about it as a future wife. But he wouldn't do that. He confirmed that too by shaking his head. He knew exactly what your thought processes were. "I'm sorry. I hadn't said anything," he mouthed at you, making sure that no one else had seen it.
"An answer, now! What do you have to do with my son," the queen commanded once again.
"I...me and Stiles...we-"
"Stop it, mother! Leave her alone, and I'll tell you everything!" yelled Stiles when he noticed that you were struggling to find the right words and were just intimidated by his mother.
In the queen's eyes, you could see her mood change a bit. From the stern look she gave you, her features changed to a mischievous grin. She turned back to her son, but at the same time grabbed your arm to pull you closer to the throne with her.
"Tell me, Stiles. Why does Caroline get the idea that the future king of the country should be madly in love with this kitchen maid. Tell me, Stiles."
"It's true, Mother. I've been seeing Y/N secretly for several years," Stiles replied.- "To do what? Tell me about all the things you've done."
"We...okay, do you really want to know? I fell in love with Y/N, and she fell in love with me. We kissed and made love, okay? Y/N was devastated after the news yesterday. I snuck away to be with her and comfort her. Yes, it's true, I fell in love with a kitchen maid," Stiles announced, remaining as serious as he could be.
His mother's grip on your arm tightened with every word her son said, so tight until she was most likely leaving marks. "Out! Everyone out!" the queen yelled, ordering everyone out of the room except Stiles, Caroline and you. The guards also had to leave the room and stop in front of the door. The queen wanted everyone out.
"Do you know what you have done, Stiles? You have just, no not only just but over the years dragged the name of our castle, our family through the mud with this act! I cannot allow my boy, future king, to have the reputation of having gone to bed with a servant!" Queen Claudia discussed with Stiles. You did not even dare to look into Stiles' eyes.
Suddenly, the words of Helena and Alice made sense, they had been right. Maybe it would have been better not to let it come to that.
"And you, how dare you make a pass at a prince! Were you not aware of any consequences!" she yelled at you this time, making you even smaller than you already were.
"I was just a little kid then, your highness. Over the years, we both just grew," you answered honestly. After all, the cards were already on the table now anyway. Lying got you nowhere here.
"Stiles, I am very disappointed in you. You are ending contact with each other right now."
"But Mother, I-"
"I don't care how you feel about this girl. Because from now on, you will never see her again!"
Your breath caught, and your eyes snapped wide open. Of course, you could have expected it to come to this, but hearing it now only made it worse. "You have a choice, Stiles. Send her to the dungeons for the rest of her life, or ship her far away to another country."
Your gaze found Stiles'. You could see that he was just as shocked as you were. He absolutely could not believe what a choice his mother had just made for him. He could not believe even less that the woman who would stand by his side in the future had betrayed him like this. It was clear to him from that moment that he would never get along with this woman. She was the reason that his true love was destroyed. How could he ever look her in the eye again, let alone be intimate with him at all.
"Mother, you can't do that. We can get her another job in the village. I won't be able to see her again if she can't work on the castle."
"And yet you will always manage to meet her again. I'm not going to take that chance! Make up your mind, Stiles. You will be responsible for her future now," his mother ordered him.
Both possibilities ran through your mind. Being in the dungeons for the rest of your life could only mean one thing, as much as she hated you. She would definitely let you starve and be forgotten down there. Until you would find a quick death. Going to another country would mean not being able to see Stiles again. And you didn't know what was worse. You would have preferred to die quickly instead of having to live without Stiles for many years, and that would probably have been your choice if you had been allowed to decide, but that was not the case.
"Anything but dungeon, mother. Y/N didn't do anything bad, and she shouldn't be in the dungeon for that," Stiles finally replied, giving you a sad look. He, too, knew that he would never see you again. This would probably be the last time he would be able to see you.
"So be it decided," Queen Claudia said, clapping her hands once to let the guards outside the door know they could come back in. You took the chance when her hand no longer held your arm and sprinted off. Stiles also threw himself down the steps to get to you and caught you as you jumped into his arms. Your feet gave way, all the emotions hitting you in one fell swoop. Everything that had happened in the last 24 hours was too much for you. The tears ran down your cheeks again, pulling on Stiles' shirt where you had buried your face deep in it. Stiles wrapped his arms tightly around you and once again held you as tight and close to him as he could.
"I'm so sorry, Y/N. I'm so sorry," he murmured into your hair, taking another deep breath of your scent. Stiles was so sorry for all of this. Just because you were born in the wrong class, he wasn't allowed to spend time with you, just because he was born into a royal family, he wasn't allowed to love you. It all seemed unfair and unjust to him. Now he soon had the power and still, he couldn't decide. But Stiles knew that if he succeeded, he would get you back.
"Stiles, I don't want to leave. I don't want to leave you," you whimpered against his chest. "Let me starve in the dungeon. But I don't want to spend my days without you somewhere in the wide world for the rest of my life. Please, Stiles."
"Y/N, I love you far too much for that. I promise you, I will come for you. I will find you and bring you back. I promise," he whispered as he noticed you being torn from him. The guards had grabbed your arms again, and at the queen's command, they removed you from the prince.
"The horses are ready in the courtyard! Make sure that she arrives at the port and leaves the country! I never want to see her here again!"
"Stiles!" you shouted as you were torn farther and farther away from him. Stiles stood there, in his mother's shadow, holding his hand over his heart, because not only was your heart broken again, but so was his. "Stiles!"
"Y/N!"- The door to Throne Hall locked as you were outside now in the hallway, and you completely collapsed. The guards had to drag you outside as you were making it hard for them. Over and over, you wanted to run back to Stiles. You couldn't get away from here. But one of the guards had enough and grabbed you to throw you on his shoulders. Thus, you had no chance to defend yourself against him.
On the way out, where the horses were already waiting for you, you suddenly remembered your father and sister. They had not noticed all this. Your father had not made it in time to know. They would worry about you forever and would certainly never know where you were. Your world was collapsing.
The horses with the carriage that would take you to the harbor were already waiting in the courtyard, and you became more and more aware of what was about to happen to you. Reluctantly, the guards threw you into the carriage and blocked the doors so that you could not get out.
You could see that a lot of people had gathered there in the courtyard. Among others, you could see your friends Alice and Helena, but also Stiles, who was standing on the balcony facing the courtyard. You reached out to him through the small window of the carriage, and all you could get out was a low whimper. Everything had given way. Even your voice.
"Y/N!" you heard a voice from afar as the guards spoke to the driver of the carriage. You looked out to the other side of the carriage and saw your father coming running quickly.
"Father!" you shouted as loud as you could and again put your hand out the window.
The driver of the carriage let out a short cry, and you heard the horses start to neigh before the carriage slowly moved forward. "No! My father is coming! FATHER!"
"Y/N!" he yelled again and stepped it up a notch to get to you in time. You could see him holding something in his hand and extending it in your direction. You couldn't tell what it was from a distance, though, and hoped he would make it in time.
The horses were speeding up, and you weren't sure if he would make it, but just before the carriage was about to leave the yard, the horses slowed down once to turn and slowed down as a result. Your father flung himself to the carriage and pressed something into your hand. "Take good care of yourself, dear! Take good care of yourself!"
You nodded to your father, holding in your hand very tightly what he had just given you, and looked up once more to where Stiles was still standing by the balcony. He lowered his head and turned to go back to the castle, and so you leaned back and let the tears flow.
Only after a while, you could pull yourself together and realize what exactly your father had put into your hand. It was a letter, closed and sealed with a very special seal that no one else used except the king himself. Your father had given you a letter,  given by King Noah that was specifically addressed to you. "For Y/N."
