So often I see “wellness adds, magazines” referring to eating more that recommended portion sizes as bingeing. This is problematic at minimum, majorly harmful to individuals who actually experience binge eating disorder or those trying to recover from a restrictive eating disorder. First of all, a portion size is not real- it’s part of the fat phobic society we live. A portion size is whatever your body requires or you want. Referring to eating more, is not the same as bingeing. Bingeing is medical diagnosis characterized by loss of control, eating more than typical in a short space of time and the most important part is the EXTREME psychological distress it causes. In ED recovery it is completely normal to eat much much more than an individual who has never experienced an ED, it makes sense your repairing the damage both physically and MENTALLY. Extreme hunger is not bingeing it’s eating what you need. These labeling used by diet culture is total crap. STOP CALLING NORMAL EATING BINGEING. #bingeeating #bingeeatingrecovery #wellness #dietculturesucks #dietculture #fitness #healthyfood #anorexiarecoverywarrior #healthateverysize #nodiettoday #bulimiarecovery #bulimia #bulimiafighter #anorexiarecoverywarrior #anorexiarecoverymeal #anorexiafighter #edrecovery #eatingdisordersawareness #eatingdisorderecovery #osfedrecovery #orthorexiaawareness #orthorexiarecovery #atypicalanorexia #atypicalanorexiarecovery #ednosrecovery #dietsareharmful #mentalhealthawareness https://www.instagram.com/p/CTVNypPhVNU/?utm_medium=tumblr

Eating Disorders Awareness
Eating Disorders Awareness Week this year starts on February 25th until March 3rd. The week is for organisations intend to dispel myths around the different disorders and how those disorders can be tackled.
In this week they hope to “break down the barriers” so that people will get the help people need. A UK Charity BEAT said that people often find it difficult to reach out because they ‘don’t always fit eating disorder stereotypes.’
They are hoping the Eating Disorders Awareness Week, will help get people’s stories out into the spotlight and highlight how eating disorders affect people from all backgrounds. It is important people stand together to demand the support that those affected need and deserve. Eating disorders and mental health can affect anyone.
Whilst weight loss is a key factor of an eating disorder, there are other factors we must consider. Hiding food, hoarding, rapid mood changes, hair loss, and excessive exercise should all act as alarm bells.
Things to look out for:
Has their behaviour drastically changed, or is it changing?
Do they often have a distorted view of their body size?
Are they obsessive with food?
Do they appear tired or do they struggle to concentrate?
Do they exercise excessively?
Do they disappear to the toilet after meals?
In the early stages of an eating disorder, many won’t show signs of weight loss. Eating disorders and mental health go hand in hand. It’s important that with the right help, both are tackled together.

This is why I'm so adamant about telling people to screw counting steps & all that petty crap & focus on what feels good & does good for YOUR body. I did an hour & a half of MMA & then took my dog for a walk, yet if I listen only to numbers, I STILL haven't done enough today. Luckily, I have ED Amy in my life to always remind me that the numbers don't mean shit - it's about how my body feels & honoring its boundaries. Maybe I'll get those extra steps & shit in (I won't know bc I don't wear my Fitbit 24/7 - also a smart idea), but maybe I won't - either way, IT'S OK. Listen to your body over numbers of any sort - you deserve to find your worth outside of the measurements of any other person or device. 💪🏼🙋🏽🥊💁🏽🔥😝 #healthyisthenewskinny #stronglooksbetternaked #loveyourselffirst #eatingdisorderrecovery #NEDA #eatingdisordersawareness #saturday
