profiles of the main characters of the adult roommates total drama au i'm working on!! where every1 is around their 30s and the story focuses on heather, noah, and cody :D [this is subject to change btw!! depending on what i think'll work better for the plot]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
soo quick premise of the story (w/o spoiling too much):
noah recently broke off a 10-year relationship with emma after a fight that resulted in him being kicked out of their shared house all together — for reasons neither of them are ready to disclose, not even to themselves.
thus, after a series of unfortunate events, our failure of a fantasy novelist ends up rooming with cody, now a lanky man who not-so-gracefully fell from stardom, and heather, a cat mom doing her PhD in psychology and is displeased with having to share a space with noah and cody of all people.
with both men broke and heather barely having enough time or energy to carry their collective finances on her own, the three are forced to get their shit together and navigate through the turbulence of living in a bustling city, deal with domesticity, and face the complexities of their respective minds as they make their way up in life (again).
[courtney does play a role but i won't spoil!!]
---
there'll be more characters involved but i'm thinking that these are, at the very least, the main cast: the trio being the protagonists while emma and courtney are secondary characters
BUT!! i'm struggling between making this into a comic or a fanfic 🥲 bcs obvs the former will take much longer than the latter, but i can immerse ppl sm more with the comic ihwkebwksb idk we'll have to see where this story goes because i am still structuring it!
it's supposed to be slice-of-lifey, sooo a good amount of fluff and angst cuz i rlly wanna make it realistic and relatable to the majority :D since so many older aus are rlly intense and trauma-heavy 😭😭🙏??! LIKE yes my story will obvs explore the trio's personal problems but i'm really trying not to make it be smth off-the-rails and batshit insane 💀 ykwim??
SO UH SORRY THIS IS SO LONG BUT YA IF U HV ANY QUESTIONS, PLS COMMENT HAKSHJA

Ngl I think TWP would be hilarious as simply a social media au—kinda SOBH Style
Somethings it would include:
- Kit tweeting publicly about his angsty feelings for Ty (convinced he’s safe bc Ty would never be on twitter)
- Dru and Kit have a snap streak through which we see snapshots of there povs
- Dru teaches Ty about Tumblr where he has a blog about the cases he’s investigating (he uses fake names—but shadowhunters would never see it so he’s safe) and Ty gets a ton of ppl following his blog for updates
- Dru has an insta where she does outfit of the day and has a run down of the day (but she has a pic from the beginning and end of the day—sometimes it’s the same but sometimes it’s rly messed up from demon fights or messy and people are invested in her stories in the comments)
For ex: Dru somehow has service in faerie; beginning of the day: fishnets and horror t under corderoy overall shorts. End of the Day: a full whimsical faerie dress (today was a long day guys)
The only person Dru follows is Isabelle Lightwood (who she bonds with over fashion and teaches millenial Izzy about insta)
- Blackthorn Family Gc (there’s a lot of convos between Helen+Aline, Dru+Emma, Dru+Tavvy (he has a mini ipad) etc that Julian’s like “does this have to be in the main family gc?!” “YES”)
- Herongraystairs Family Gc (it’s just Jem, Tessa, + Kit—it’s mainly Jessa: hey kit, do you think you’ll be coming home soon, no worries if not, just let us know— then Kit: responds with a vine or meme Tessa: *confused at first till she reads up on them and starts replying in memes*)
- Kit’s youtube channel— Kit interviews “my 150 yr old parents* about historical events they’ve lived through asking the *important questions* ppl just think they’re phd historians with SUPER niche interests
- Thais loves photography and takes cool pictures of a lot of shadowhunter things and nature for her insta and for Dru’s as well ofc
- thais and jaime rivalry on twitter— no matter what the other says they will disagree (kinda jace simon dynamic)
- Ash is a gamer (he’s done all the games in thule lmao) and he does streams—ppl think his commitment to faerie cosplay is cute
- Anush helps Ty with his blog, but he’s also on Snapchat where he has Dru and so we get insight to the scholomance and Ty in the background of a lot or snaps
- sidenote: Izzy is also obsessed with making pinterest boards for her and simons wedding (I like to think that sizzy has a hybrid themed-jewish-shadowhunter wedding bc they can make it however they want)

Uranus aurora discovery offers clues to habitable icy worlds
The presence of an infrared aurora on the cold, outer planet of Uranus has been confirmed for the first time by University of Leicester astronomers.
The discovery could shed light on the mysteries behind the magnetic fields of the planets of our solar system, and even on whether distant worlds might support life.
The team of scientists, supported by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), have obtained the first measurements of the infrared (IR) aurora at Uranus since investigations began in 1992. While the ultraviolet (UV) aurorae of Uranus has been observed since 1986, no confirmation of the IR aurora had been observed until now. The scientists’ conclusions have been published in the journal Nature Astronomy.
The ice giants Uranus and Neptune are unusual planets in our solar system as their magnetic fields are misaligned with the axes in which they spin. While scientists have yet to find an explanation for this, clues may lie in Uranus’s aurora.
Aurorae are caused by highly energetic charged particles, which are funnelled down and collide with a planet's atmosphere via the planet's magnetic field lines. On Earth, the most famous result of this process are the spectacles of the Northern and Southern Lights. At planets such as Uranus, where the atmosphere is predominately a mix of hydrogen and helium, this aurora will emit light outside of the visible spectrum and in wavelengths such as the infrared (IR).
The team used infrared auroral measurements taken by analysing specific wavelengths of light emitted from the planet, using the Keck II telescope. From this, they can analyse the light (known as emission lines) from these planets, similar to a barcode. In the infrared spectrum, the lines emitted by a charged particle known as H3+ will vary in brightness depending on how hot or cold the particle is and how dense this layer of the atmosphere is. Hence, the lines act like a thermometer into the planet.
Their observations revealed distinct increases in H3+ density in Uranus’s atmosphere with little change in temperature, consistent with ionisation caused by the presence of an infrared aurora. Not only does this help us better understand the magnetic fields of the outer planets of our own solar system, but it may also help in identifying other planets that are suitable of supporting life.
Lead author Emma Thomas, a PhD student in the University of Leicester School of Physics and Astronomy, said: “The temperature of all the gas giant planets, including Uranus, are hundreds of degrees Kelvin/Celsius above what models predict if only warmed by the sun, leaving us with the big question of how these planets are so much hotter than expected? One theory suggests the energetic aurora is the cause of this, which generates and pushes heat from the aurora down towards the magnetic equator.
“A majority of exoplanets discovered so far fall in the sub-Neptune category, and hence are physically similar to Neptune and Uranus in size. This may also mean similar magnetic and atmospheric characteristics too. By analysing Uranus's aurora which directly connects to both the planet's magnetic field and atmosphere, we can make predictions about the atmospheres and magnetic fields of these worlds and hence their suitability for life.
"This paper is the culmination of 30 years of auroral study at Uranus, which has finally revealed the infrared aurora and begun a new age of aurora investigations at the planet. Our results will go on to broaden our knowledge of ice giant auroras and strengthen our understanding of planetary magnetic fields in our solar system, at exoplanets and even our own planet."
The results may also give scientists an insight into a rare phenomenon on Earth, in which the north and south pole switch hemisphere locations known as geomagnetic reversal.
Emma adds: “We don't have many studies on this phenomena and hence do not know what effects this will have on systems that rely on Earth's magnetic field such as satellites, communications and navigation. However, this process occurs every day at Uranus due to the unique misalignment of the rotational and magnetic axes. Continued study of Uranus's aurora will provide data on what we can expect when Earth exhibits a future pole reversal and what that will mean for its magnetic field.”

The darker red locations indicate confirmed aurora locations, with fainter red used to mark possible aurora locations. Credit to NASA, ESA and M. LOWER IMAGE....Measured infrared brightness from the upper atmosphere of Uranus combined with rings of magnetic field lines which occur as the planet rotations (which produces the oval shape we see in most aurora). These rings are called shells and we expect the majority of auroral signal to occur between the dashed and dotted lines (as seen in 1986), which a portion of our results do. Hashed areas means possible aurora though the signal is too weak to confirm and dotted areas means no aurora in these points.  CREDIT  Source: University of Leicester

Girls Like Me Pretend (We Don't Cry)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
word count: 2.4k words
alternative link: 🕷️🕸️🫀
synopsis: it's been six months after the events of spiderverse. spider-ling is finally readjusting well to the massive shift in her canon. she believes she's ready to move on, until she sees a familiar face at work.
part 2 | part 3 | part 4
Tumblr media
My name is Emma Charoensuk-Hua. And for the past six years, I’ve been the one and only Spider-Ling. My life has been quite complicated. Found out my father was a Master of the Mystic Arts when I was 15. And also that we have like a family feud with this other family for over a millennia. I became a Master of the Mystic Arts and embraced my, supposed, destiny as a sorceress and became Doctor Strange’s apprentice, after the death of my father. He wasn’t around a lot, but I still cared for him. Of course, everything has to go wrong in that my ex decides to try to sacrifice my whole universe so his patron could conquer the multiverse. And I tapped into my Inner Power when I wasn’t ready. It was going to kill me, so Doctor Strange did the only thing he could do: take it out. I came out magicless and wandered around life, obsessed with my coursework. Well, not entirely magicless. I’m still able to do spells, study magic. I just can’t perform anything complicated. And I’m disconnected from my ancestors. So that…sucks. Then of course, the story goes as is. Get bitten by a radioactive spider at 21, learn about heroism, with great power comes great responsibility, yada, yada, yada. So yeah, I became Spider-Ling. Pissed off lots of politicians, do some mutual aid on the weekends. I also got my degrees and a PhD. And I work at OSCORP as a researcher. Oh! I got married! Then divorced. I don’t wanna talk about it. Who ever does? I’ve lost people, lost things along the way. But I’m Spider-Ling because apparently, that’s what the universe wanted from me.

Manhattan — Earth-728
Her hand slammed down hard on the alarm clock, causing it to break. She sat up, hair messy, and rubbed her eyes. “Fuck…” Emma would need to go buy a new alarm clock on the way back or during her lunch break. She slowly crawls out of bed and shuffles to the bathroom where she does her morning routine before getting dressed. Checking that she had everything in her work bag, she leaves her apartment and heads straight to the local bakery to buy herself a steamed bun. The conversation she has with the cashier is brief since she was in a rush to get to work. Once out, Emma checks her phone and the traffic. “Trains are down. Guess I have to find another way around the city.”
She’s mastered the art of changing into her suit by now, able to do it in a quick and easy manner. With her mask on, bag strapped, and bun steaming hot, Spider-Ling takes to the city early in the morning. Besides, swinging around this early was also good for a small morning patrol where she would catch up with some people if she had time. But there was also nothing like starting a morning by flying through the city while eating her bun. There was a certain freedom that came with it, though she tried hard not to swing every single morning. She reached the OSCORP building faster than she ever could on the train and fell into an empty alleyway to change out of her suit and back into her work clothes. She discards the bag her bun was in into the garbage and walks into OSCORP, swiping in. “Morning Emma.” Chester, the security guard, says. “Got a busy day?”
“It’s always busy at OSCORP.” She salutes him as she gets on the escalator. The geneticist makes her way to the elevator and presses down on the 55 button. When the elevator stops and the doors open, she leaves and is met immediately with her supervisor.
“Ah! Emma!” Cynthia pushes up her glasses. “Just in time! There’s coffee and bagels in the conference room. Get your ass in a seat.”
Emma didn’t question it. It was common for them to have meetings anyways. So she went straight to the conference room and sat down next to Shin. “Had a good weekend?” He asks.
She grabs a plain bagel and bites into it. The bun was delicious but that definitely was not enough to sustain her for the rest of the day, especially if she was going to patrol and do her Spider-Ling duties. “Busy. Like usual.” She says, hand covering her mouth while she chews. “What did you do?”
“Had dinner with a friend. Went on a date. Was not so great. Nothing really is better than—”
“Shin, let it go. It didn’t work out and that’s alright.”
“You just don’t like my uncle.”
“Your uncle is a Japanese nationalist. I’m Taiwanese. Put the pieces together yourself.” Emma takes another bite as Cynthia walks in.
“Okay. Happy Monday everyone.” The entire subdivision groaned. “Yeah, yeah. I get it. So before we do a debriefing for what corporate wants us to do for the week, some introductions are in order.” Everyone looks at each other curiously, while Emma continues to eat her bagel. “I’d like to introduce everyone to our newest member of the division. He just transferred from our branch in Mexico City and worked at Alchemax for six years before joining the better company. So, here is Dr. Miguel O’Hara!”
Emma felt herself almost choke on her bagel seeing who walked in. Her Spider Sense went off like crazy, even if the man who had walked into the conference room meant no harm. He posed no threat to her and yet, her anxiety spiked through the roof of the OSCORP building. “Hi everyone.” Miguel smiles widely, eyes sparkling a little. “I look forward to working with you all.” When his eyes travel to her, Emma feels as if he’s looking into her soul. It was…so strange to see Miguel in her dimension. She didn’t even know her dimension had a Miguel. Did the other Miguel know? He looked so different. He was just as big as the Miguel she knew but his posture was a little more slouched. His eyes were warm and brown and he lacked bags under his eyes. It appeared as if his life was put together and he didn’t cause a whole universe to collapse. She also took in his outfit: a blue button down, tan slacks, dark brown Oxfords, and a white lab coat. She could see his OSCORP I.D. card, attached to the standard blue lanyard with white font. He didn’t look like he worked at OSCORP. Then again, they all dressed like that during their first week until Cynthia told them she didn’t care and to only dress formally when corporate came to observe them.
“Emma will show you around once we’re done with the meeting.” Cynthia begins her debriefing on the week’s activities.
Once the meeting is wrapped up, Emma leaves the room and rushes to her office, setting her things down and finishing her bagel. Her Spider Sense goes off again and she turns around, grabbing the nearest thing to throw (in this case, her pen holder). “Whoa! Lo siento.” Miguel holds his hands up in surrender. “Did I scare you?”
She sighs, setting the pen holder down. Her Spider Sense continues to tingle. “Sorry. Rough morning.”
“No worries.” He smiles, putting his hands down. “You have, like, a sixth sense or something? Your back was turned and I don’t think I made too much noise.”
“Ummm…I guess you can say that.” She pulls out her headphones from her bag and sets it on her desk. “I can, um, give you that tour now?”
“That would be awesome.” His smile is so bright that it kind of hurts her eyes. He looks so…happy. And innocent, in comparison to the other Miguel.
Emma shows him around the floor, taking him to the lab and even telling him where the good printers are (not on their floor). It’s a quick tour and she debriefs him about some of the stuff they’ve been working on. She doesn’t notice the little look of admiration in his eyes. She spoke eloquently and carried herself with confidence, even if she looked a little worn out. (Then again, everyone did) His eyes may have wandered a little further down than necessary. But he was subtle and he wasn’t going to lie about her appearance. After the tour, Emma returns to her office. She puts her headphones on and begins working, writing on the reports and editing some of the papers with her name attached to it. She makes her edits and occasionally leaves her office to grab something to drink.
From his cubicle, Miguel watches her. He glances her way, seeing how hard she was working and moves his gaze elsewhere when she glances at him. Of course, his staring doesn’t go unnoticed by the man sitting next to him. “You might want to dial back on the ogling. We have work to do.” Shin crosses his arms as he leans against the cubicle.
“Is she going out with anyone?” He looks up at his colleague.
“Are you thinking about asking her out?” He scoffs. “You shouldn’t. She’s such a workaholic.”
“So…that’s a yes then?”
“What? No! I mean, yes. She’s single…I think.”
“You sound like you have dated her.”
“I mean, we did date for a bit.” Shin sounds smug.
“But you guys aren’t together. So that means it didn’t work.” Miguel has a small smile on his face, thinking about the fact that he could date her right now. Technically. He didn’t really know Shin. So it wasn’t really breaking bro code.
“I wouldn’t say it didn’t work. She just doesn’t like my uncle.”
“Are you Japanese?”
“...Yes. I don’t see why that matters.”
“And what’s her ethnicity?”
“Taiwanese. And Thai.”
Miguel raises his eyebrows. “I think it spells itself out.”
Shin was baffled. Too baffled to speak actually. He just returns to his cubicle and continues working. About an hour or two passes and the new transfer finally stops admiring the woman in the office from a distance and actually does his work. But he soon found that he needed to make copies of something. Miguel quickly found out that the copier on their floor doesn’t work. But he should’ve remembered that from the tour earlier today. It did make for a great excuse to visit her though!
Emma’s Spider Sense tingles a little and she looks away from her computer. She sees Miguel’s hand against the glass, which meant he had knocked. Or was knocking to get her attention. She beckons him inside and slides her headphones down to her neck, pausing the music. “M-Miguel. What can I, um, do for you?”
“I was hoping you could show me where to print? Well, I need to make copies and the copier isn’t working.” He smiles.
“Come on.” She puts her computer to sleep and leads him to the elevator, tapping her ID against the scanner and pressing the button with the floor number five above them.
“Why are we going to the 60th floor?”
“They have the best paper and the ink is always available. It’s because that’s where, like, the upper echelon of OSCORP office employees work.”
“You know quite a bit. Have any friends up there?”
“Used to. She got transferred to a…different division. Elsewhere in the world.” She sighs.
It’s awkward for a moment before Miguel asks her a question. “How long have you worked at OSCORP?”
“Do I count the time I worked as an intern?”
“I guess. Does it add much?”
“Only a year. I’ve been working here since…god, since I was twenty-one. So six years?”
“That’s a long time, especially for someone of your age.”
“I am pretty old.”
Miguel laughs. “You’re nowhere near old.”
“Why? Are you like way older?”
“I’m only thirty-two.”
“That’s not bad. You’re only five years older than me.” Emma exits the elevator with Miguel when they arrive at the desired floor. “How long have you been working at OSCORP?”
“Three years, give or take. I spent my twenties with Alchemax instead. I’m the one that developed an alternative and cheaper medication to Sickle Cell.”
“Oh. Alchemax.” She lets out a small nervous laugh. He pouted on the inside seeing her not react to his little brag.
“Have you heard of it?”
“Of course I have.” She opens the printing room with her keys and turns on the light. Miguel closes the door behind them as she fires up the printer and copy machine. “They’re our biggest competitor. And they rejected my many job proposals because I was overqualified.” She scoffs.
“Soft spot?” He asks while copying his papers.
“Guess you can say that.”
Miguel spends the rest of the time observing her. Even if she was standing idly by, waiting for him to finish. Their silence is comforting, a little bit. He enjoyed the silence. On the other hand, Emma wasn’t used to it. She was still on edge, her Spider Sense tingling in the back of her mind. It wasn’t Miguel. There wasn’t any danger. So why did it feel like she was in danger? When he is done, the two of them return to their floor and return to work. After another hour, their lunch break hits. Miguel quickly packs up so he could try to catch Emma for lunch. Except he doesn’t find her in the office. He feels a little disappointed, walking to the elevator. His face brightens upon seeing her in the elevator. Except she has her headphones on and is looking at her phone. He runs to the elevator, trying to beat the doors, but they close and the elevator descends.
Tumblr media
Miguel returns to the office, having eaten a good meal. Halal food was really good and it reminded him of home, going to street vendors and buying his lunch from local people. He even stopped by a modern Mexican joint and bought some horchata. ($8 for a large was…too expensive) It tasted alright and he knew he could make a better one at home. When he gets to his cubicle, he sees a flash of red pass by Emma’s office window. He’s only read about the superheroes that protect New York City. But the red blur had him presuming it was the smaller and more experienced hero: Spider-Ling. About five minutes after that, Emma emerges from the elevator, headphones on. She was busy eating an empanada, and stopped in her tracks when she was approached by Miguel. “I missed you earlier.” He says.
She pulls down her headphones. “Sorry. Had to rush out. I was busy during my lunch break so I only got something small.” She presents him with the bag. “I’m already full though.”
“Are you sure?”
“Mhm.” She nods. “Wait…do you like olives in your empanadas or no?” He shrugs. She gives him her last empanada. “They’re pretty good.”
“You’re going to have to tell me where I can get these.”
Emma laughs nervously. “We’ll see.”

-She screams silly bimbo to me. Just in a naive way. Trust me she is smart.
-you would have no idea shes smart tho. shes just too silly.
-She somehow knows all the Jeremy’s and what makes them special. and yes she does make little dog toys for them often.

Yo what romance you reading? 👀 Also any recs welcome spread the good taste ✊😩
FJFKJF when i wrote that post i was definitely reading motherland: fort salem fanfiction 😅 i’ve been staying up too late reading fanfiction like some sort of 20 year old who can still do that without risking their health.
BUT i’ve been reading a lot of lesbian romance this year and i’m absolutely down to provide some recs! important disclaimer, however, i only read one (1) subgenre that’s best described as “ice queen lesbian milf office romance” ft an age gap between 21+ adults. understandably this is not everyone’s jam, but i am simply a 20something lesbian who thinks older women are really hot. what can i say
here are five recs in order of preference:
1. “truth and measure” by roslyn sinclair - the original adapted novel version of the same-titled legendary mirandy/devil wears prada fic. jules moretti is the long-suffering assistant of vivian carlisle, the CEO of a prestigious fashion magazine. then vivian gets pregnant mid divorce, with only jules by her side. and it only gets gayer from there.
listen. i genuinely could not stop reading truth and measure by roslyn sinclair. for three days, i woke up, vaguely did my adult tasks, and read for several hours in a state of what i can only call hysteria. the chemistry is insane. vivian is a hot mean loser with sad eyes and jules is insane for every choice she makes. btw i imagined the nanny!era lauren lane as vivian and current day alison scagliotti as jules. i had the time of my life. 10000/10
(also: i still highly recommend the published version to anyone who read the og fic - the story feels both brand new and wonderfully, nostalgically familiar.)
2. “the headmistress” by milena mckay - sam threadneedle, a closeted math teacher working at a conservative girls boarding school, hooks up with an insanely hot older woman at a conference in the city. three months later, that same hot older woman shows up at the school. woops, she’s the new principal and she’s there to cause problems! the prose is decent, the melodrama is fun to read, and the chemistry is zesty. solid 8/10
3. “the music and the mirror” by lola keeley - based on a supercat/supergirl fic of (i think) the same name. anna, the newest member of a prestigious ballet company, really wants to impress victoria, the former prima ballerina turned artistic director. well, she definitely does that! victoria decides that anna is going to be her company’s new star. this one has a lot of homoerotic partner dancing and really great side characters. still reads like a supercat fic, but honestly that’s another plus. 9/10
4. “the love factor” by quinn ivins - set in the 90’s, this book follows a closeted statistics professor and her TA, a very out lesbian political science phd candidate, as they expose a homophobic professor for falsifying data and fall in love. not as horny as others i’ve read, but still wildly tender and cathartic. i loved also how much empathy this book showed towards closeted lgbt folks. 7/10
5. “something to talk about” by meryl wilsner - also based on a mirandy fic, this book follows the misadventures of a hollywood showrunner and her assistant when they’re mistaken for a couple at a red carpet event. this book strained my suspension of disbelief the most—i simply don’t think everyone in emma’s life would be rooting for her to date her boss LMAO—but the chemistry is great and the pining is unreal. 7/10

I wanna say some things.
I've been a Polaris fan for almost 15 years now. Fans just tuning in, and some that may have tuned out, may be frustrated with how the X-Men comics keep failing/refusing to do right by the character.
I want to give you all a look from my view, so you can see the progress.
Back when I discovered Lorna, it wasn't because of a TV show. Or social media. It was because, by pure chance, I ran across her entry on the Marvel wikia. She wasn't promoted enough for me to know she exists except by accident.
In terms of the landscape: she was in a bad position. The Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon had just been canceled after the Disney buyout, which meant any plans for her there went out the window. In the comics, she had been reduced to Havok's supporting character girlfriend again, only this time exiled to space for his Starjammers team. It was shortly after I learned of Lorna that she was put in space limbo for over a year, no appearances anywhere at all.
No place in comics. No involvement in mutant events on Earth at all. Stuck as Havok's supporting character girlfriend when last seen. No origin story. Magneto as her dad was still a big question mark, and it wasn't clear if she was even a mutant.
Here is a list of gains since I discovered the character.
Restored as a mutant
Restored as Magneto's daughter
Not stuck in relationship as a supporting character for Havok
Back on Earth, taking part in X-Men comics
Breakout role on Gifted played by Emma Dumont
Multiple good video game appearances
Has an origin story now
Led a team of her own (despite Jordan White undermining her and killing the book)
Won the X-Men fan vote
Interacting with Jean Grey again after decades of nothing
Has a PhD now
Yes, I do complain about the X-Men comics. A lot. I have good reason to be. Within that same time frame, we still have these problems that keep coming up.
Havok keeps getting forced into almost everything Lorna does
Her surviving the Genoshan genocide keeps getting treated like it never happened
Keeps getting forced onto teams named X-Factor, clearly due to Jordan White's nostalgia for 90s X-Factor
Different writers treating her like she either has no history before or after the 90s, never a full accounting
OOC depictions in various places, most notably in the recent X-Factor #4 and Trial of Magneto
Lorna is a work in progress. She spent decades getting treated poorly, with people at Marvel thinking that poor treatment was appropriate. Some of them, like White, even think that poor treatment was somehow actually good and want people to think like they do. Because of this, Lorna has ups and downs in her overall trajectory.
The first thing I want to emphasize is that as a work in progress, it's going to take time for her to get where she should be. You can't undo decades of damage in a single month or year. It's taken almost 15 years to get her where she is now, which is much better than where she used to be despite all the things still wrong.
The second thing is her profile.
Back in 2018, I talked to Jordan White on Twitter. He said Lorna didn't deserve anything. He claimed Lorna didn't have enough fan interest or star power to warrant getting the respect she deserved. He cited nothing for this view other than his general attitude and claiming he'd have more tweets directed to him about Lorna if she had enough fan interest.
The X-Men fan vote proved him wrong. In the past 5 years, we went from Jordan White writing her off as a nobody, to White clearly understanding that he can't ignore her anymore. He knows now that she has way more interest than he was counting on.
That's progress. And while it may not feel like it, poor treatment is also progress in this case. We went from White insisting Lorna doesn't deserve a miniseries, to White greenlighting a 4-part Infinity comic clearly meant to push his personal whims.
Of course, I would vastly prefer Lorna get an actual mini that treats her right instead of something that amounts to a drawn fanfic paid for out of company money. But at the end of the day, her profile and public awareness of who she's actually supposed to be as a character has grown enough that White decided to devote company resources on trying to make people think of Lorna the way he does.
That's a victory for Polaris fandom. It's part of the fight to get her where she should be. Or rather, should've been all along. Don't look at it as end of the road. Look at it as a stepping stone to a brighter future for the character.
P.S. - Jordan White didn't read the original run of X-Men comics until COVID. That's not a problem for the average person. Fans usually don't go that far back. I haven't read the original run, just Lorna's intro issues. But as senior editor of the X-Men comics, you would expect him to have read those issues much, much sooner than 2 years into being senior editor.

Scene I have a few ideas of Super Mario Rebirth Show AU, I figured that I would make My own AU Series of Sonic the Hedgehog with also of few ideas, with redesigns of The Sonic Heroes and Villains.
Bio: Ivo Robotnik, the grandson of Gerald Robotnik was an orphan who never knew his parents. He spent most of his life in orphanages, and was never properly loved and bullied at school. He only knew about his Grandfather through stories and he had also inherited Gerald's diary. The stories in the diary inspired Ivo to become a scientist. But because of his huge intellect, he ended up getting multiple PHDs, and became an expert in robotics. He even got revenge on his school bully back when he was in School. Having never been loved, in older years, Ivo began to despise the concept of "Friendship '' and considered himself better then anybody else. He also gets an obsession with control to the point he dreams of controlling the world with his machines. In adult years, he began working for the military, got eventually married but got divorced a few years later but not long ago gained custody of their daughter “Emma Robotnik”.
Ivo Robotnik is hired by the government to investigate that something is going on with the government's lab. Dr Robotink investigates this with his robot Army and ends up in Mobius. This is were Sonic meets Robotnik, who is kidnapping the local people in order to turn them all into robots. After so many encounters, Dr Robotnik ends up being defeated but not long after Sonic left one of quills behind.

During his travels for months, he ended up Losing his hair, Mustache grown, driven insane and craving revenge. He managed to create a base to start on his new Robot Empire and began to take over territories one by one, starting with The Acorn Kingdom. Daughter of Nigel Acorn, Sally Acorn had gone into hiding with other fellow mobians who escaped Robotnik. Together they formed the Freedom Fighters and set up a plan before fighting back. Having grown obsessed with Sonic after their encounter, Robotnik built a robot in Sonic's image that he called "Metal Sonic". Metal Sonic was assigned to search for the remaining emeralds.
When Sonic meets Robotnik again, he realizes that Robotnik have gone partially crazy, as Robotnik has begun calling himself “Dr Eggman”. The nickname Sonic gave him back their first encounter. After the Sonic The Hedgehog 2 arc, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and CD arc happens but Eggman ends up failing again as to lead to many encounters With Sonic as well as his Freedom Fighter Friends. After Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy left Acorn Kingdom, he decided to take them out before coming back to destroy Acorn Kingdom and soon the world. This lead to the next 5 years of encounters of the game arcs, Sonic Adventures - Sonic Forces) including some encounters like “IDW” were Dr Eggman got his memories back by Dr Starline after a previous defeat and later betrayed him months later.

Papa and J---- Chapter 4!
Author: shadowsong26
Rating: PG/PG-13
Fandom: Les Misérables
Characters: Technically all on-page characters are OCs; Valjean, Cosette, Marius, and Javert are discussed as historical personalities. Backstory Cosette/Marius and heavily implied Valjean/Javert.
Warnings: Nothing specific, I don’t think?
Summary: Euphrasie Pontmercy–known in the art world as La Jardinière–isn’t exactly a household name. Still, the sheer length of her active career (her work was first displayed and sold in 1839, and she left one last work unfinished at her death in 1910) makes her interesting to people who actually study that century in art. But as far as the historical record is concerned, Jardinière seems to have sprung semi-fully-formed from the streets of Paris somewhere in the mid-to-late 1820s. Other than the fact that she was educated in a convent, essentially nothing is known about her parents or her childhood.
Until now.
Or:
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a PhD student with no thesis topic must be in want of an undiscovered painting to go absolutely feral over.
Disclaimer: All characters are the property of their respective creators.
Notes: Here we are with Chapter 4! It's been a while, hasn't it, lol. This chapter is mostly Logistical Stuff, but we get to see Phil again! still seriously considering finding someone to commission to actually make a version of the painting are any of y’all who might be artists interested/does anyone have any recommendations of artists who are open for commissions who do that kind of style
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 3
Authenticating the painting wasn’t really a matter of lab testing. Most chemical analysis couldn’t date a painting more specifically than within fifty years or so of when it was painted. Which of course we did anyway, and that proved it wasn’t a modern forgery, at least.
My research into the development of paints and pigments during the nineteenth century also proved the painting didn’t use any colors that weren’t available in the mid-1830s, but that wasn’t exactly conclusive, either. Just because something was available didn’t mean it was used in every painting, after all.
Which meant it came down to comparing technique, and the inscription on the back--most of Jardinière’s paintings had a signature as well, but some, including this one, did not. I didn’t have immediate access to any of her very early works, but there were two paintings in reasonably local collections that I was also able to borrow. The earlier of the two was a painting of a street from her Calais period; the other was from the 1890s, a memory-portrait of the artist herself and one of her granddaughters in their respective wedding dresses, comparing the poofiness of their sleeves. (I have to admit, I love an artist with a sense of humor.)
Still, they were physical paintings that were known to be Jardinière’s work. The next step involved many, many hours of looking at all three paintings in very close detail, with Emma overseeing and offering her experience to help with authentication. There weren’t any specific experts in Jardinière’s work, exactly (“Though after you finish this research, you’ll probably qualify as one,” she had pointed out), but the bulk of Emma’s research had been into pre-Impressionist French painters, so she knew what to look for.
“I think,” she said, at somewhere around eleven pm on the sixth day after we’d gotten access to Souvenir de soixante ans, “that we can say this is a genuine Jardinière painting. The inscriptions on all three match, just like you thought, and while her technique definitely evolved, you can see some of the same detail work you noticed around the hands and eyes in Soixante ans.”
“Yes,” I breathed, with a silent fist pump of victory. “Which means I get to go ahead with the rest of the work.”
“Yeah,” she said. “Any changes to the plan from the last time we talked?”
I shook my head. “I’ve put out feelers to that museum in Marseille, along with a couple other collections in France and one in Dover. Most of them were willing to work with me and grant access to at least some of the behind-the-scenes papers that weren’t on display. Dover wanted to hold off until the painting was authenticated, so I’ll reach out to them again…tomorrow, probably. After sleep. I still need to line up a translator, too.”
“That should be your next step, before you travel anywhere further than Chicago,” Emma said. “If you still want to look at Inachevé in person. Did you talk to my usual guy?”
“I did,” I said. “He said he wasn’t sure he’d have time for a project of this scale until summer, though. And while I can do at least rough translations myself…”
“You don’t want to spend six months going down the wrong road,” she said. “Fair enough.”
“I’m going to check with the department here, see if there’s anyone they recommend, and then look into other freelancers,” I said.
“At least you’re working with nineteenth-century French sources,” Emma said.
“True,” I said. “Helpfully common.” Unlike my ex-girlfriend, who’d had to wade through seventh-century Greek for her research.
“That can wait ‘til morning, too,” she said. “It’s been a long day, and you’ve gotten past the first major hurdle.”
“Yeah,” I said. “Thanks for your help on this one.”
“It’s what I’m here for,” she said, and smiled.
~ * ~ * ~ * ~
The next day was all logistics--my absolute favorite part of any project. Back and forth with Dover and the various French collections; reaching out to a few other translators who had been recommended to me; and the absolute best part: budgeting.
Ugh.
Still, progress had been made; I had most of the permissions I needed and had worked out at least some of how I was going to pay for flights and so on. Waiting to hear back from some of the possible translators, so that was still up in the air but at least the momentum from the night before--finally officially authenticating the painting--had carried forward.
And, best of all, the day ended with another date with Phil.
Our third, actually, not counting the one I’d accidentally derailed with art-nerd brain. I was very proud of myself for managing to keep things on track after that. I mean, obviously, both of us talked a little bit about work, but not enough to make the night all about that.
“So, how long do you think you’ll be out of town?” he asked, when we made it back to my place with ice cream.
“Hard to say,” I said. “Some of it depends on what I find. At least a few weeks, though. And I’m not leaving, like, right now, I still have to work out some logistical detail bullshit.”
“Hey, some of us like the logistical detail bullshit,” he said, grinning.
“Really?”
“No, not really, planning travel kind of sucks,” he admitted. “But other detail stuff can be fun.”
“Right, you’re a math guy.” I flicked his nose affectionately and he rolled his eyes.
“It’s satisfying when it all comes together right,” he said. “Different kind of satisfying from when I was translating to pay the bills, but that was kind of fun, too. It’s all solving puzzles, you know? Just different kinds.”
“I get that,” I said. “Even if number-puzzles never really drew me in.”
“Not for everyone,” he agreed. “…actually, though.”
“What?”
“You said you were still looking for a translator?”
“I am,” I said. “Why?”
“Just…I don’t know,” he said. “My other language is French, I’m not sure I told you that?”
“Uh…no, I don’t think you did,” I said, sitting up. “Wait, are you offering?”
“I mean,” he said, sitting up as well, facing me. “If it wouldn’t be…I don’t know, I don’t know what all the rules are? Since it’s my family’s history, and since we’re…is it too early to say dating?” He flushed a little, which was adorable.
“I don’t think so? It is your story as well. We’d need to put together a specific work contract and everything, but…wait, let me actually…” I reached over and grabbed my phone from the nightstand to send a quick email to Emma. If she didn’t know the actual answer, she’d know who to ask, at least.
“Right,” he said. “So…I guess let me know what she says? Because I’m. Uh. If it’s not against the rules or whatever, I’m interested in helping out.”
“Great,” I said. Then, because I definitely hadn’t forgotten the other question, “And…yeah, I think I would say we’re dating,” I added, leaning forward to give him a quick kiss.
“All right, then,” he said, with a smile, kissing me back, which put a pretty decisive end to any work talk for the evening.
Emma wasn’t going to get back to me before morning, anyway.

OUAT Thoughts Pt.26--Episodes 10-11
I have watched through S3E13; spoilers DNI. Also, spoiler warning for anyone further behind than I am.
—Belle helping Rumplestiltskin with his tie is like the reciprocal of him helping her with a necklace. (I’d love to score somebody to help me with my ties and necklaces.)
—Prince Charming’s wedding outfit was gorgeous.
—I love Medusa’s lair. The floor was so pretty; it even had that Classical Greek meander pattern going. And the state of semi-decay was delightful.
—Snow using Medusa’s reflection to defeat her was honestly very high IQ. More people should try that.
—Hm. Jimmy died. Oh no. *indifferent*
—I’m glad Tink is doing better. She’s a pretty cool lady, much better than OG!Tink, and she’s been through a lot.
—I just adore *sarcastic and acrid* when the Blue Fairy is all like, “oh, sorry, Tink, but you can’t be a fairy cause you don’t believe in yourself.” Girl, guess who’s fault it is? If the Blue Fairy hadn’t been so nasty to her, she would’ve had more self-confidence.
—For a hot minute, I was worried there would be some big, magical showdown between Peter and Rumple. I was incredibly pleased to be proved wrong. Rumple beating Peter without all that is just so personal to me.
—Honey just straight-up summoned his shadow, with his magical dagger, to kill Peter at the cost of his own life. That’s some real king sh*t right there.
—And he got to say goodbye to Baelfire and Belle! Most dead people don’t get that.
—See, I can calmly and rationally discuss all of this because I’ve already made my dramatic-ass post about Rumple being dead. (Still screaming inside tho.)
—He proved himself to not be a coward, to be a dedicated father, and to be a hero. He said he didn’t get a happy ending because “villains don’t get happy endings”—but he died a hero. Which is actually a bittersweet kind of happy ending. Not so great for him, because he’s dead, but it leaves his loved ones with the best possible final memory of him.
—Emma and Regina are like that Bugs Bunny meme. One of them mentions Henry and the other one just has to go *oUr sON*
—Prince Eric being a fish-killer in Storybrooke slays me. That’s hilarious.
—It’s great that Ariel and Eric got to be together without drama. Does he know she’s a mermaid yet? Probably not. Will he ever find out? That’s gotta be where the drama comes in.
—It’s incredibly depressing that the Darling boys are adults and Wendy’s still a kid. It’s not fair. They should’ve gotten to grow up together.
—But the reunion between the Darlings and Baelfire was sweet. At least Bae and the Darling boys are the same age, even they probably won’t ever see each other again.
—The more Hook is around, the more I love him. I’m mad at him for being so charming and debonair, but I can’t help liking him. Also, now that I like his personality, I’m starting to see that he’s a rather stunning man.
—Peter Pan can see deez. He doesn’t even pretend to regret dumping Rumple; he goes on this long, terrible rant about how having Rumple ruined his life. And he doesn’t even have to do that, because the anti-magic cuff didn’t work on him. He lingered to say all of that just to be a jerk.
—And yet, in the end Rumple seemed a bit sad to see him die.
—The ending of Episode 11 was super sad. The only good thing is that nobody but Emma and Henry lost their memories.
—While Henry and Emma were saying goodbye to everyone at the town line, Belle was leaning on Dr. Hopper. I love that if he’s in a scene, even if he’s not actively doing much, he’s being there for somebody.
—Also, for him to be a doctor, he must have a PhD from Curse University. Which means he’s most likely classified as a psychiatrist. That’s not important, I just think it’s interesting.
—Dr. Hopper being turned back into a cricket in the Enchanted Forest hurts me. I’m gonna miss his human form. And his human voice, it’s rather soothing.

Hello! So I don’t generally recommend audio dramas here, mostly because I forget I can do that, so today I’m going to be recommending @roguemaker!!
What is it about?: a group of people are on a commercial spaceflight that ends up exploding, leaving everyone stranded alone in escape pods. Their pods have no controls, no reliable communications, and an AI named Ship who can’t remember any of them.
Why do I like it?: listen, I love sci-fi 😂 and I love a good mystery even more. We don’t know who sabotaged the ship, we don’t know where they’re going, and everyone seems to have secrets. The cast is fantastic and the music is really fun to listen to! Also everyone on the fan discord is really nice and having a good fandom is fun to be a part of! We do live listens every time an episode drops and they’re really fun 🥰 I love the story a lot and I need to know what happens next 👀😂
Something to note is the story takes a little while to pick up, but I think by the end of episode 3 and into episode 4 it does! Especially by episode 4. We have hit cliffhanger time 😂 This show is a lot of fun and I am enjoying it a lot!
Bonus: the creator of the show, Emma Johanna Puranen is studying for her PHD in exoplanets and science fiction which is just so cool!!!

Notes from Outlook for Economics Job Market 2023-24 NABE
06/10/2023
Jeff Ferris, Senior Manager and Economist, Amazon
Shilpi Mukherjee, Senior Economist, Keystone Strategy
Gustavo Suarez, Assistant Director, Division of Research and Statistics, Federal Reserve Board
Shalyce Tyson, Human Resources Specialist and Recruitment Coordinator, U.S. Census Bureau
Moderator: Emma Zetterdahl, Senior Manager, Economics Research, Spotify Advertising
This was actually a really helpful panel, hosted by mostly economists and people really close to economics research. I liked that they had a mix of people in consulting, tech and the government, and they gave a good picture of industry research in general. Specifically, attendees learned what skills private industry and the government are looking for in an economist.
Consulting and tech seem to be looking for causal, IO and time series at the moment. There is room for micro and macro theorists but they often tend to have some special skill that is related to working with data. They were clear that working with datasets seems to be the daily responsibility of most newly hired economists in industry and government. Machine learning and working with data are great skills to have now, and should be highlighted briefly either on the CV or with a link to a project on github. There was some discussion on making sure we show we are clearly practiced at thinking about economics problems and not just working with data, but I think the key takeaway is to be good at both.
Causal and structural estimation are critical since places in industry tend to have big data, and there is a lot of scope for different analyses. Structural is important to sort of pare down the question. Causal is the most generalizable.
For PhD versus MA, the opportunities are slightly different. Many times the economist role seems to be defined for someone who has a PhD. There are roles for MA students (e.g. survey statistician at the Census, data scientist at Amazon), but the idea for the economist position is to hire someone who has done some rigorous thesis work.
So what does the job look like for a new economist? In consulting, you'll be working with a supervisor on some project and performing some analysis that is assigned to you. This tends to be very technical and usually involves working with data. As you work your way up, you begin identifying the problems and choosing the problems. At the top, you decide broader direction in terms of which types of analyses work and which don't. In tech, you'll be handed a variety of tasks with little ambiguity to simply execute until you work up. Once you have more responsibility, you yourself might start scoping projects that have some more ambiguity. The more leadership you have, the more ambiguous the problems become. As you become a leader you become someone who chooses the direction.
The general consensus seems to be that as a fresh economist you'll be working on problems that have been identified and defined by someone else. Once you become a leader, you become the one to define the problems.
Hiring process: (1) In tech there are two phases. First, a phone screen, walking through a set of technical problems. Next, some more technical questions, questions on aptitude for leadership and how you approach problem solving. Don't bring up your job market paper as much for tech. They want to see how well you can approach a new problem (2) At the census: Submit resume and get certificate. Interview. (3) In consulting, specifically at keystone. First, there is a technical portion and you often discuss your job market paper. Next, there is an on-site interview. You might look over some technical problems with some company leadership. There is a behavioral portion as well. (4) At the Fed, you often start with AEA interviews. From there you receive flyouts. You present your job market paper, talk to the other economists there. They want to see your technical skills and communication abilities.
Overall, a very informative panel! A thank you to all the panelists who provided the information.

#JamesDonaldson On #MentalHealth – How To Support #Kids Who Are Questioning
Tumblr media
Photo by Anna Shvets on Pexels.com Helping young people navigate #genderidentity and #sexualorientation Writer: Juliann Garey Clinical Experts: Emma C Woodward, PhD , Michael Enenbach, MD What You'll Learn - What does it mean for a child to be questioning? - How can families support kids who are questioning their gender identity or sexual orientation? - What mental health risks do questioning kids face? - Quick Read - Full Article - What does it mean to be “questioning?” - What helps kids when they are in a questioning mode? - Emphasize acceptance - Risk for mental health challenges - Dealing with bullying - How to handle your own challenging feelings It’s common for kids to question their gender identity and sexual orientation, but the process can be confusing and scary. Young people who are dealing with these kinds of questions do best when their families support them. If your child comes to you with questions or concerns about their gender identity or sexual orientation, the most important thing is to listen and let them know that you love them and support them no matter what. If you think that your child might be questioning, let them know that you’re always there if they want to talk. Then, let them take the lead, and don’t push them to talk before they’re ready. It also helps to let your child know that your family accepts all gender identities and sexual orientations. Speak openly about non-straight people in your life and use people’s correct pronouns. And if your child wants to use a different name or pronouns, take them seriously and do as they ask. Not all kids who are questioning are upset about it, but LGBTQ+ kids are at higher risk for challenges like depression and anxiety, especially if they feel rejected by family or friends. Keep an eye out for big changes in mood or #behavior. Kids who are very distressed about their gender identity may also be experiencing a mental health issue called gender dysphoria. Gender dysphoria comes with an increased risk of #suicidalthinking and #behavior, especially when kids don’t feel accepted, but treatment can help a lot. It’s normal to experience #anxiety or sadness of your own if your child is questioning. Those feelings are valid, but it’s important to cope with them separately from your child and continue supporting them no matter how you feel. A therapist of your own or a support organization like PFLAG can help. In recent years, the way kids and teens think about gender and sexuality has moved beyond the simple binaries of male/female and gay/straight. This gives them a lot more flexibility to understand and express their gender and sexual orientation in ways that feel right to them. But sorting out these feelings and thoughts can be confusing and sometimes scary — for kids and their families. And questioning kids do best when they have the support of their families. What does it mean to be “questioning?” It’s normal for very young children to experiment with gender identity, but “questioning” in this context refers to older kids and young adults who are in the process of exploring their gender identity and/or sexual orientation. For young people, questioning both who they’re attracted to (their sexual orientation) and what gender they identify with (#male, #female or another gender), has become more and more common. A recent poll shows that about 1 in 6 Americans aged 18–23 identify as something other than #heterosexual. Kids who are trying to figure out where they fit along these spectrums are often referred to as “questioning.” For more on the terminology that young people often use to describe #sexualorientation and #gender identity, see the helpful glossary from the Human Rights Campaign. What helps kids when they are in a questioning mode? #Mentalhealthexperts stress the importance of giving kids who are questioning unconditional support at home. “We know that queer youth who have family support adjust to things a lot better,” says Michael Enenbach, MD, a child and #adolescent #psychiatrist and clinical director at the Child Mind Institute in the San Francisco Bay Area. “It’s really vital to have the support of the parents even if parents don’t agree with the child is saying or doing.” That means explicitly letting your child know that you love them, accept them, and stand by them — even if you’re confused or upset by the thoughts and feelings they’re having. Most kids are probably not going to come right out and tell you that they’re having questions about who they’re attracted to or that they don’t feel right in the body they were born in. Being comfortable enough to reveal these feelings to their friends or parents or even themselves can be a long and difficult process. Dr. Enenbach says that even when parents pick up on signs from their kids — things they say, changes in the way they dress, things they post on #socialmedia, reports from other parents — you shouldn’t push your kids to talk about it. “It’s really important not to be too pointed and assertive,” he says. So instead of saying something like, “Do you think you might be #gay?” or “I’ve noticed that you’ve been dressing differently,” it’s better to check in with open-ended questions and let them know that you’re there if they need you. You might say: “I hope you know that I’m here for you no matter what, and that you can talk to me about anything that’s going on.” You can also let kids know that if they’d rather talk to someone outside the family, you can arrange for them to meet with a therapist. Dr. Enenbach also notes that it’s best to keep the conversation light and try not to hover. “Don’t ask every day, ‘How are you doing?’” he advises. Instead, check in once a month. “Ask your child, ‘How’s everything going? Anything you want to talk about? Anything you want to talk to someone else about?’ It’s really something that the teenager needs to figure out on their own, but know that they have the support of #adults.” Emphasize acceptance Even without discussing the issue with your child directly, you can take steps to make it clear to them that your family is accepting of all #genderidentities and #sexualorientations. This could include making a real effort to use other people’s correct pronouns, talking openly and without judgment about any non-straight or gender nonconforming people in your family’s life, and even talking about the media you watch together. You may see a character on TV coming out to their family and take the opportunity to say something like, “It’s so great they felt comfortable coming out to their dad. I hope you feel you could come to me if you had questions of your own or wanted to talk to me about your gender or sexuality.” When a child does start to share ideas about their identity, it’s important for parents to respect those ideas and meet kids where they are. Start by being really open to what they have to say; just hear them out without passing judgment. It may be awkward at first, but that’s okay. The important part is to listen, let them know that you take their feelings seriously and follow their lead. That includes using the pronouns or names that they ask you to use, even if they’re still figuring out what works for them. “Wherever I meet a family or child with these concerns we use the words that the #teens choose,” says Emma Woodward, PhD, a clinical #psychologist at the #ChildMindInstitute. Risk for mental health challenges Just because your child is having questioning thoughts doesn’t mean they’re upset about it. But these thoughts and feelings can cause mental health challenges like #depression and #anxiety, and LGBTQ+ kids are at higher risk for these disorders, especially if they feel rejected by family members or peers. It’s important for parents to notice when a child seems constantly worried or withdrawn, doesn’t want to see friends, isn’t sleeping or eating well or has lost interest in activities they usually enjoy. These are signs of #mentalhealthchallenges that may or may not be related to gender or #sexualidentity. If these symptoms last more than a few weeks and especially if they seem to be getting worse, it may be time to get your child help from a therapist. A child who seems to have a high level of distress around gender issues might be experiencing something called gender dysphoria. Kids with gender #dysphoria feel strongly that they are the wrong gender, and those feelings can cause an intense need to change genders. It’s important to note that being #transgender is not a #mentalhealthdisorder. And not all transgender people experience #genderdysphoria. But kids who do have gender dysphoria are at an increased risk of suicidal thinking and #behavior, especially if family and friends do not accept them as the gender they identify with. Treatment can make a big difference for kids with gender #dysphoria, and #therapists can help families navigate options for kids who are considering transitioning to a different gender. Dealing with bullying Kids who are questioning may also be targets for #bullying. Whether or not your child is openly discussing their gender and #sexualidentity with you, it’s important to be ready to advocate for them. If you suspect bullying, start by talking with your child about what they’re experiencing and how they want to handle it. It’s best to get the child’s consent before talking to their teacher about bullying. At the same time, you can let them know that it’s important to stand up for themselves and that you’re ready to back them up: “We don’t have to do it right away, but we might need to talk to your teacher if this keeps happening.” Later, you might consider going to the principal if your concerns aren’t addressed after working with the #teacher. Even if you don’t have specific concerns about #bullying, it may be helpful to bring up the subject at your next parent-#teacher conference. You might say, “Hey, I know that my child presents a little differently. Have you noticed any teasing or anything like that?” “It’s important to check in with teachers,” Dr. Enenbach says, “but I would only really push and go to the #school administration if you notice that your kid is really distressed and showing signs of #depression.”   #James Donaldson notes:Welcome to the “next chapter” of my life… being a voice and an advocate for #mentalhealthawarenessandsuicideprevention, especially pertaining to our younger generation of students and student-athletes.Getting men to speak up and reach out for help and assistance is one of my passions. Us men need to not suffer in silence or drown our sorrows in alcohol, hang out at bars and strip joints, or get involved with drug use.Having gone through a recent bout of #depression and #suicidalthoughts myself, I realize now, that I can make a huge difference in the lives of so many by sharing my story, and by sharing various resources I come across as I work in this space.  #http://bit.ly/JamesMentalHealthArticleFind out more about the work I do on my 501c3 non-profit foundationwebsite www.yourgiftoflife.org                            Order your copy of James Donaldson's latest book,#CelebratingYourGiftofLife:From The Verge of Suicide to a Life of Purpose and Joy www.celebratingyourgiftoflife.com How to handle your own challenging feelings It’s normal to experience upsetting feelings of your own if your child is questioning their gender or sexuality. You might feel anxious about the challenges your child could face, how to share news about their identity with extended family, or how to support a child whose identity is different from your own. In particular, parents of kids who are questioning their gender identity might feel a sense of mourning for the child they imagined they would have — the daughter who was going to walk down the aisle in a white dress, for example. These feelings are all valid, says Dr. Enenbach, but parents should try to avoid letting them get in the way of supporting their child. “I’m not saying it’s easy for parents to be supportive,” Dr. Enenbach says. “But it’s really important to do your best and seek guidance on your own to help support the kid.” Learning more about LGBTQ+ identities and experiences can help, and so can joining a support group for parents for kids in similar situations. PFLAG, an organization for #LGBTQ+ people and their loved ones and allies, is a great place to start. You might also consider working with a #therapist of your own to process your feelings separately from your child. “That kind of work especially is important for parents to do on their own, with their own provider,” Dr. Woodward says. Parents’ feelings “can cause a child to feel a lot of guilt and shame. Those are complicated feelings, but it’s not the kid’s responsibility to manage their parents’ emotional responses.” Finally, it’s helpful to remember that questioning kids’ identities may evolve as they continue to explore their #gender and sexuality, so parents shouldn’t expect that the labels or pronouns kids choose for themselves will necessarily be fixed. The goal isn’t to get the #child to settle into an identity, but rather to support them through as much exploration as feels right to them. “It really is about following their lead with how they identify and what language they’re comfortable with,” says Dr. Woodward. All parents want their kids to feel safe, happy and loved. And being supportive, open and informed are the best ways for #parents to help questioning #kids have that experience. I always prefer to believe the best of everybody.“Since the show has aired,” Jack Gleeson said, “I’ve been given an insider look into an ever-pervasive and yet often mysterious aspect of society, namely, our culture of celebrity. The pain of parting is nothing compared to the joy of meeting again.Bad habits are easier to abandon today than tomorrow.Don't ask for a light load, but rather ask for a strong back.Sometimes I just want to scream the words "I love you".Worry does nothing, but steal your joy and keep you very busy doing nothing. What you do with it is your gift back to God. You won't understand, so I won't explain.Success isn't something that just happens. It's sad when you realize you aren't as important to someone as you thought you were.Challenges are what make life interesting.Winners in life are those who are excited about where they're going.Let your dreams stay big and your worries stay small.Nothing's more fun than doing what people say you can't do.You are made to make a difference, so embrace every opportunity to do so.To be inspired is the way to keep on going.I'm a solid 3 & half percent villain in real life, I'd be lying if I said zero (when interviewing on his character Joffrey in Game of thrones).Arrogance is a weird emotion to take on (for his role in Game of Thrones).Audiences like bad guys who kill for no apparent reason.I'm happy to sacrifice a big pay check for my happiness. He is believed to be straight, we have no information on his love life, some assume him to be gay.He feels audition of Got pretty weird, it was a five minute audition in Dublin.Favorite person from GoT-Rory McCann(The hound). He doesn't watch much of Game of Thrones (That's quite surprising).Published articles on human development for his anthropology class. His group performed at the Edinburgh Festival in 2014.He likes to play the role of Marcus Brutus, whom he considers to be a good mix of Villain and hero.He is afraid of closing doors, some years ago he lost tip of his fingers while closing the door.He is scared of heights, as a kid he realized it while climbing the 'Skellig Rock' in Ireland.Death of his role is his first death scene on TV/ movie. He has been nominated twice at the Screen Actors Guild Awards(2011,2013).He wants to be an academic, possibly do a PhD in Hebrew & become a professor in philosophy. He is considered very friendly by his co-stars despite his mean and violent character in Game of Thrones. He doesn't speak swear words, he avoids them in rehearsals and uses only on the actual take.DU Players: Jack is a member of the Dublin drama group named DU players. He is a recipient of the scholarship at the university (he was one of the 103 given the honor) Gradation: Jack is studying at the Trinity College, Dublin for his degree in philosophy & theology.Jack has sisters in Emma Gleeson & Rachel Gleeson who are also actors.Collapsing Horse Company: He is the founder & director of the theater company.Since 2014 he has his own theatre company with which he tours performing around the world.Jack's acting profession started at the age of 7 in theater.Game of Thrones in particular made him known to a larger audience.
