before ever getting to know ghost, soap had a sort of crush-dilemma concerning the man—he never knew if it stemmed from a want to be with ghost, or be ghost.

because from afar, the lieutenant was, to put it simply, cool. he was mysterious, skilled, terrifying. he was many things and more, the sorts of things any soldier might aspire to be. and soap assumed, rather naively, that the lieutenant would be the same off the field as he was on: cool.

soap’s dilemma is easily solved, however, when he becomes friends with ghost. because ghost is actually very decidedly not cool. in all honesty, he’s a bit of a loser in soap’s opinion, but in a good way. an endearing way.

it becomes clear that the crush situation was a want to be with ghost, because after witnessing the man fumble conversations, stare down appliances when they don’t work (see: ghost forgot to turn them on), and lose sunglasses still on his head among so many other stupid things, soap decides he’s doing alright as himself.

he means that fondly, of course. but by god ghost is not as cool as he once believed.

btw don’t worry ghost’s safe to those unfamiliar, burnish can perform a kiss of life to share their sparks with one another and a non burnish can return a burnish’s flame back to them via this method too. in canon it’s for life saving purposes but it’s also used as symbolism for romantic love sooo
