Main Shrine atop Enoshima Island (Enoshima Island, Fujisawa, Kanagawa Pref., Japan)
Hetsumiya (辺津宮), is the main shrine atop Enoshima Island. The first structure was built in 1206 under direction of the third shogun during Kamakura Period (1185–1333).
As is the case with many shrines and temples in Japan, the shrine was rebuilt or renovated many times over the past 1,000 years with the current building having been renovated in 1976.
During the Kamakura Period, the shrine was visited by samurai warriors to pray for victorious battles. However, during the much more peaceful Edo Period (1603-1867), the shrine became associated with praying for prosperity, healing of illnesses, safe childbirth, and safe travels.

What to do in Kamakura: the sightseeing guide or something…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Kamakura Station, real and the manga versions
It is said to be less than an hour from Tokyo by train and one of the ancient cities in Japan along with Kyoto. Because of the countless shrines and temples, it is called the Kyoto of the East.
So where do you think the gang is going for a sightseeing ?
1) The Great Buddha of Kamakura. The Amida Buddha, which “referred to in Sanskrit as Amitabha Tathagata—the Buddha of Limitless Light, sits upon a lotus pedestal with his hands forming the mudra of meditation,” stands 11.4 meters on the grounds of Kotokuin Temple.
Tumblr media
2) Hase Temple. It is said to the temple of the Jodo sect, one of two old sects that brought Buddhism to Japan, and in there resides the “famous eleven-headed statue of Kannon, the goddess of mercy.”
3) Enoshima is an island that has shrines, an aquarium, caves, an observatory tower and a beach that is very popular during summer where surfers like to go.
Searching for possible Lunar New Year festivities in Kamakura city owing to the many Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples located there, I encountered this passive aggressive information on this unofficial website.
Hari kuyo {hah-re-koo-yoh} at Egara Tenjin, 8th February
Hari is literally a needle, and Hari Kuyo is a memorial service in honor of used needles just like the Fude Kuyo (calligraphy brush memorial service). Nowadays, young women do not use needles, nor do they know how to sew. Until a couple of decades ago, however, needles had been one of the most important tools women had to use. Sewing is a technique required of women to master before marriage. The memorial service for needles was thus started years ago and it is still honored in various shrines.
I’ve heard of the funeral rite and a Buddhist temple for discarded dolls in Kyoto, but broken needles? Fascinating. This is in keeping with their animist tradition.

Black Clover theory about the 5 headed dragon legend, Astaroth and how Lucius shot himself in the foot by targeting Sister Lily
Tumblr media
Warning for my insane ranting and theorism but there are CONNECTIONS.
TIME FOR PREFACE:
In the past few post timeskip chapters we've been given some important details:
Lucius had taken the hearts of several supreme devils, including Beelzebub and implemented them into humans.
Sister Lily views Asta as a little brother
In Yami's homeland, there's a legend about a heavenly maiden and a 5 headed dragon
Sister Lily and Beelzebub are now in Hino country
The Black Sea in Yami's hometown is considered a ripple between TIME and SPACE
This is all linked into, what could very well be the Astaroth reveal in the VERY NEAR FUTURE
IM TALKING "HAPPENING BEFORE CHRISTMAS" NEAR
Let's preface this with Beelzebub, Astaroth and Lucifero and how hearts work with devils. We've SEEN with Zagred that the hearts of devils are more like a core of sorts and the devils magic and soul likely resides in. We don't know whether or not those devils, upon having their hearts eaten, dissappear as egos or simply get put to hibernation.
Assuming that the personas of said devils are tied into their magic, the brainwashing and purification with paladin bullshit Lucius is pulling is likely trapping both Sister Lily and Beelzebub in the same shifest.
Astaroth is likely exempt from being locked up in the back of Lucius' mind, probably because the ego/soul either escaped or was transfered somewhere else as a last ditch resort of survival (this will be important a bit further down.)
Now, Beelzebub and Astaroth are more alike and connected to each, similar to how in mythos Satan and Moloch are connected but instead were fuzed into Lucifero.
Both Beelzebub and Astaroth were demons who originated from Mesopotamiam/Ancient gods, Baal and Ishtar respectively. The affinities of space and time are both directly linked and dependent on each other. They're technically the only devils of the trinity who, SO FAR, haven't had direct interaction with humans outside of deals.
In ADDITION, both are in the same group of sorts, both as the evil trinity and supreme devils.
However, Astaroth is different in the point where in his description, he has two pets under his command - a viper in his hand while riding an INFERNAL dragon.
Now, we're not given any context into what these creatures can and can't do or what they represent, so artistic liberties in portraying them can be taken.
How does this connect to Sister Lily, the legend of the 5 headed dragon and Asta?
The legend of Benzaiten in Enoshima.
Tumblr media
The legend that Ichika talks about is LITERALLY the Enoshima land legend, which has a shrine made for MATCHMAKING.
Asta has been connected to the number 5 ALL the time in the series and wouldn't be surprising to have him connected to THIS dragon as well. And with the whole "holy maiden of beauty and benevolence" myth, that's where Sister Lily/Possessed Lily comes in. Literally down to rejected proposals.
The thing we need to look out for is that the legend says that the dragon was DORMANT in Enoshima, ie still there, and that the sea which turned black was a ripple between TIME and SPACE. The dragon is very likely still there and the reason why the sea is black.
The theory is, that, the dragon that Astaroth has is the SAME DRAGON in the black sea. And by Sister Lily and Asta fighting there, we'll likely get the Astaroth reveal.
And this is because we've seen foreshadowing in this with the VIPER.
Which happened in ELF ARC, THE ARC ABOUT REINCARNATING AND WHERE A DEVIL APPEARS AND OPENS A HELL GATE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zagred is described as a high ranking devil, so the likelihood of him being from the 5th gate, which Astaroth should reside in, is Plausible. In addition, Zagred isn't summoning the Tendrils/Viper, he's opening a gate from his world to this one. The Viper Tendrils are just busting out likely because they became feral at the loss of their owner.
How this connects to the Dragon is how Asta reacted to said Viper. We SEE how this magic reacts to both elf and human, even to YAMI, who's technically a kijin. It's hostile to EVERYONE.
EXCEPT ASTA CAME OUT UNSCATHED
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note how Patri says that Antimagic works on Viper but remarks that Asta's UNSCATHED as a separate thing.
Asta isn't safe because of antimagic but because of himself. Antimagic was able to cut him free but when Asta was swallowed up, he wasn't in black form. The Viper didn't do damage because of Asta himself. The Viper, even if now feral, recognised Asta as Astaroth and knew not to attack. And we KNOW its not because of magic because it leeches life energy too, similar to Licita's curse.
Tumblr media
THIS, is where shit starts building up to a Sister Lily vs Asta on the Black Lake fight because it will parallel this moment.
Sister Lily and Asta start duking it out in the Black Sea but nobody can get in there or suffer adverse effects. ASTA gets thrown in there by Sister Lily to try and kill him for good but he comes out unscathed. And since the place is a ripple of Time and Space, the 5 headed dragon can feel "Astaroth", or maybe Asta's presence wakes it from its slumber.
And fucken busts out.
And Beelzebub fucken SEES this.
Astaroth's old ass pet reacting to this little dude. Who's name is Asta has goes memory dumpster diving. Who also is as old as when Astaroth disappeared.
And he starts making connections. THIS is how the reveal happens.
And THIS is how sister lily gets out of the brainwashing.
Beelzebub by mythos, is older than Astaroth but similar enough to warrant connection. It wouldn't be weird for Beelzebub, who looks like a 40 year old man with alcoholism, to be considered a "big brother" to Astaroth.
And sister lily stuck in the back of her own head suffering over hurting Asta and sees BEELZEBUB try and bust out. Which is how we get Siister Lily gets out of the brainwashing, Astaroth lore AND Beelzebub and sister Lily working together to save their "little brother".
It's all FUCKING CONNECTED.
Especially in helping all of them get BACK to Clover with extra help.
Imagine you're Lucius and you see Asta, previously assumed dead, Sister Lily and BEELZEBUB with extra help from Hino Country riding into battle on a FIVE HEADED DRAGON. I would just throw in the towel and start evacuation.

I'm going on vacation to Japan next March (a bit too early for cherry blossoms tho) and i'm curious if you have recs for any pretty/cool places to visit outside of the regular tourist traps? Preferably stuff that's not too hard to reach from Tokyo. Nw if not 🙏
you might yet catch the blossoms tbh, they keep blooming earlier and earlier each year so if it's late march when you come here there's a chance. otherwise if you go down to kansai you could catch them there, if not plums were definitely already in bloom by like late february near the imperial palace in kyoto. in case you go to kyoto my go-to is fushimi inari, it's definitely on the touristy side but i love that place it's very nice. in tokyo the same could be said about asakusa, street full of overpriced bad quality garbage and tourists but i still love it for some reason, the view is nice, the reds are beautiful. otherwise it really depends on what you like?? if you hate crowds i'd say stray away from shibuya and harajuku, but if you don't mind them and like shopping and alternative fashion go to harajuku it's full of so much stuff. to buy. consoomer heaven. meiji jingu is right next to it and it's a nice place, it's a big forest-park good for a walk and there's. well. a shrine. but you saw one shrine you saw all of them (applies to any metropolitan too). likeee if you like drinking and going out it's shinjuku, if you like clubs it's roppongi, if you like weeb shit it's akihabara or ikebukuro, reaaaaally depends on your personal tastes! there's tons of museums, exhibitions, themed cafes... maybe go to a snake or owl cafe? since cat cafes seem to be a thing in other countries too. regardless though if you can spare the money i'd suggest going to hakone or other onsen spots, ryokan stays are always nice and so are hot springs ♨️. personally i found kamakura boring and uninspiring af so would say to not listen to the guides that keep telling you to go to its filthy beaches. and enoshima is just a patch of land with a bunch of stores on it not recommend 👎 tokyo skytree is a waste of time and money too. however mt fuji is nice, honestly mountains and forests and nature and the ocean are all so gorgeous but the catch is that they're far from the concrete jungles 😔anyway i hope you have a nice trip!!! stand on the left side of the escalator and walk on the left side of the street (in tokyo), do not talk on the phone on the train (ever), do not litter, do not be loud, do not throw your garbage into the trash cans next to vending machines (they're for bottles) (there's no trash cans for your garbage. either find a convenience store that has them or take it to your hotel room). exchange your money at the airport and don't tip anyone. nobody actually gives a fuck about how you eat tbh. have fun!!

Danganronpa 3 Despair arc episode 10
Thonks
So we're back immediately where we left off with Chisa and Chiaki.
This whole thing feels hella suspicious.
I immediately don't trust Chisa at all.
Not after that whole bit with Mukuro.
Somethings not right and I don't trust that Chiaki is alone with her right now.
Even the way she's acting it doesn't feel like Chisa. Its like someone's pretending to be Chisa, or maybe I'm over thinking it.
Maybe, but we did just hear about the whole Chisa killed some kids in the future arc so... I'm sus.
Junko beating Juzo is hilarious.
I had no doubts she could and would best him, but his look of sheer disbelief is sending me.
After what he did to Hajime, man deserves it.
Posh Junko hits differently when it's raining, she's under an umbrella being held by two students.
And her opponent is on the floor.
... Am I supposed to be surprised that Juzo is in love with Munakata?
He and Chisa both have the I'll lay my life down for this man energy. Not even energy they say that shit, out loud.
There was no way that Juzo was ever gonna be in love with Chisa.
I already joked that he was acting like Munakata's bitch. The only thing that surprises me is that it's been acknowledged in canon.
Which is cool.
Diversity win, the man you hate is gay.
Sucks to be outed, especially by Junko Enoshima after she's kicked your ass.
Jokes aside if this was any other character I'd sympathise but Juzo sucks.
And him being in love with Munakata is not a surprise, nor does it redeem him.
I love that the scandalous picture Juzo has of Munakata is him in a suit.
What no beach episode?
Knowing how he dies, I wonder if Munakata found out he betrayed him.
Can't wait for the "the world would've been saved 6 times over if Juzo had just confessed."
I'm more suorised if Munakata doesn't figure this out himself, Juzo's closet is made of glass and has a shrine to him.
Junko really throwing salt into the wound by having him beg and step on his head.
Oh Fuyuhiko noticed Chiaki's missing.
Gundam and Nekomaru are back!
But this be sus still, this is absolutely a trap.
I KNEW IT!
Despair Chisa.
And Junko's here with the exposition.
OH THE TRIAL ROOM
They find the trial room... Oh shit I wasn't expecting that to be here.
I appreciate Junko doing her Monokuma voice for this, it's only right this is the trial room afterall.
It is indeed punishment time.
Oh this is fucked and her class has to watch this.
This is the worst game of Mario Party ever.
... And this is what pulls them all into despair, oh that's good.
Mikan... Mikan is built differently tho.
Wiping her bloody hand on the monitor saying not to someone like you.
Chills.
Ohhh.... Oh fuck that is so much worse than I thought it was gonna be.
She got Mukuro'd or I guess Mukuro got Chiaki'd.
And so it begins....
And Nagito has gone full Nagito.
Oh she's still.... And Izuru...even dying she still tries to get through to Hajime.
Ow.
I do find it interesting that Izuru knows that there was someone befoe him. Like Hajime existed before he did. Even if he doesn't know who Hajime is.
Chiaki don't get up, that must hurt, all over...poor girl.
How they made her death even worse, I went into this knowing she probably was going to die.
But fuck... This is so drawn out and painful.
"I'm not ready to go yet."
...Her execution didn't hit me but her just pleading not to die because her classmates still need her.
Ad she's bleeding out.
That's what got me.
... And Izuru crying!
Oh fuck this.. No... Oh the fact he doesn't know who she is but a part of him knows... And he's crying.
He has remained emotionless this whole time but this is what... Oh fuck you show.

My Trip to Japan
Tumblr media
Here's the write-up, with lots of photos. Enjoy!
Ok so I was gonna write a whole lot, but that was exhausting so I'm gonna mainly show off some photos.
First off, here's the view from our hotel room. We went to a place in Ota City - a little ways out from Tokyo but close to the airport, which was convenient.
Tumblr media
It was a nice little area. Quiet, with lots of businesses around. We mainly got food from the nearby Family Mart - konbini food is really good. For the price (cheap), it was a good place to stay.
The Places I Went
We didn't end up going to too many tourist spots because the weather was pretty bad, but there were a couple places I want to highlight.
Enoshima
Tumblr media
We went to Enoshima as my older sibling wanted to visit the shrine (as seen in Bocchi the Rock) to pray at.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We did not, unfortunately, learn the lesson conveyed by Bocchi, namely that there were a shitload of stairs.
A metric fuckload of stairs.
Way too many stairs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fortunately it had a ferry at the end of the walking course that took us back to the mainland cause otherwise holy shit the stairs would kill us (real).
Tokyo Tower
Tumblr media
The number 1 obvious tourist destination! We didn't end up going to the top, partially because the lines were too long, and partially because I have acrophobia. Still, it was really cool seeing it - I had no idea of the sheer scale of it.
Tumblr media
Also there was a cool temple with a lot of cherry blossoms nearby. Neat.
Tumblr media
I didn't get any good photos of the cherry blossoms because of the weather, but rest assured that they were pretty.
Cat Cafe
Tumblr media
We also went to a cat cafe in Akihabara. There were lots of cats. Look at them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most of them were very sleepy, which is fair tbh.
The Things I Ate
While I was overseas, I posted pictures of each day's breakfast on my Twitter (follow me if you want who cares), and I just wanted to highlight some of the favourite things I had here.
Tumblr media
Melonpan and Boss Coffee! This was the first meal I had in Japan. Melonpan is a very sweet and tasty pastry, precisely as anime informed me it would be. Boss Coffee ended up being our main source of caffeine, as there was a vending machine near the hotel that sold a few varieties. They had a collab going with Umamusume, but I don't know anything about that series honestly. Other than that it's about horses???
Tumblr media
Dango~ I bought this in a Lawson inside Tokyo Tower. I really like the consistency of dango - just the right balance of soft and chewy.
Tumblr media
Takoyaki (I didn't get any good photos oops so here is clip art)! It was not at all like how I expected. I had it a few times at karaoke, and some from a supermarket. Some of the karaoke stuff had cheese in it which really brought it together deliciously. The supermarket stuff was less good, obviously, but it was edible.
Tumblr media
Iconic. I did not play the Pocky game.
Tumblr media
(Ignore the melonpan and Boss coffee, I don't have a problem) The onigiri was one of my favourite foods to get. Lots of variety in fillings, nice and cheap - a perfect meal honestly. I really need to get some sushi vinegar and make some of my own.
Tumblr media
The kinoko vs takenoko chocolate debate. Tbh, they both taste pretty much the same - it's more a debate over texture and mouthfeel. My preference is the mushrooms honestly - I just like the balance of wafer and chocolate better. Both are good though.
Tumblr media
My favourite meal would have to be the bowl of pork ramen I had. It was so good, the quality of the noodles was something that I've never seen in Australia - a meal I can't imagine being able to get outside of a hyper specialized (read: expensive) business here. 10/10 would eat again.
The Stuff I Bought
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We went to karaoke with the gang to watch HoloFes, and ended up getting some exclusive stuff in the Joysound-Hololive collab.
Tumblr media
Also bought some idol cards that came with some little chocolate wafers that only kinda made me want to throw-up.
Tumblr media
Finally, I picked up a lot of books. Some manga, of course. I thought I was getting Vol 1 of Bocchi the Rock, but this is actually the Anthology - which is also pretty cool. Also Vol 1 of Chainsaw Man, 'cause why not.
Tumblr media
I also got the Winter 2022 edition of the Jojo Magazine - because that seemed like a pretty cool thing to get imho. My camera recognizes Jolyne as a real human face, which is a little disconcerting.
Tumblr media
I wanted to find a Mika Pikazo art book, or some Pixiv art collections, but this was the only art book I managed to find. It's pretty cool though!
Tumblr media
That's basically all the stuff I got though. I don't usually get much in the way of merch, it's not really my thing, but I felt like it'd be a waste to not buy anything while I was there.
The Thoughts I Had
Overall, it was a great experience! It was amazing seeing how different things were from Australia. Especially the rail system, which differs from Australia's through sheer virtue of actually existing. The food was great, such high quality for an affordable price.
It was great seeing things that I actually recognized on display in Akihabara (read: weeb stuff), like it was the first time that I really comprehended that my interests were things that existed in the real world. Sorry if that doesn't make sense - really I just want to make clear that it expanded my horizons.
If you get the chance to, I definitely reccomend going to Tokyo. I am for sure going back one day. There is plenty more for me to see and experience, so much left undone and forgotten. I will return!

Gatehouse to Shrine (Enoshima Island, Fujisawa, Kanagawa Pref., Japan)
Zuishinmon, the gatehouse at the top of the first set of stairs, just past the grand torii gate, is modeled after the mythical Dragon King Castle (Ryugu-jo) that is depicted in the Japanese folktale “Urashima Taro.”
The kanji characters used for Zuishinmon (瑞心門) literally mean “pure” + “heart” + “gate” and named as such in hope that the hearts of visitors will be purified as they pass through the gate as they approach the shrines atop the island.
In this shot, we can also enjoy the sight of chochin paper lanterns that have been put out for the New Year’s holidays and used to light up the winding stairs leading to the top of the island.

tokyo tohoku trip - day 10.
this is another day trip day to enoshima and kamakura which is a train ride away from shinjuku station. i purchase the enoshima-kamakura freepass from the ticket counter in the morning and boarded the next express train available to enoshima. the enoshima is an island just about 10 to 15 minutes walk away from katase-enoshima station.
during the walk across the bridge, i noticed that mount fuji is actually visible on the right, which is a really nice surprise. and the sky was very clear with nice sunshine as well. it makes the walk much more enjoyable.
upon reaching the island, there are stores along the pathway to the enoshima shrine up the hill. the stores sells various souvenirs and street food, though not all of them are open. i got myself a octopus cracker which is a flatten rice cracker with an octopus on it at asahi honten あさひ本店. the store always has a line so it’s very easy to spot. the cracker is so thin and crispy, it’s very nice to snack on. i also got a clam chowder croquette at tobiccho しらす問屋 とびっちょ as croquette is always enjoyable especially when it is freshly fried.
enoshima shrine 江島神社 is located at the end of the road on the hill top and the view from here is actually quite amazing, do prepare to climb a lot of stairs though. i buy tickets to enter the enoshima sea candle 江の島シーキャンドル using the escalator, which saves time and energy. along the way, you get to check out the shrine area, some observation area that has really nice sew view. the samuel cocking garden 江の島サムエル・コッキング苑 is also along the way and it requires a sperate entry ticket.
i went all the way up to the sea candle observation deck to get a good view of the island and the sea, along with mount fuji as the weather was really perfect. the outdoor observation deck has the best view, but it does get windy and cold, so staying inside the indoor observation deck is better if you want to just chill for a while.
after resting and taking in the beautiful 360 view of the whole area and taking lots of photos as well, i made my way down by walking, i guess i did get lost somewhere and also forgotten about looking for the restaurant i wanted to visit for lunch, so i went to enoshima koya 江ノ島小屋 instead, to try one of enoshima popular dish - shirasu (whitebait) don. the tiny little fishes with rice is quite enjoyable, the overall texture and feel is different from eating the normal fish as they are just so tiny.
after lunch, i moved to enoshima station, which is another 15 minutes walk to take the enoden line (covered by the pass) to kamakura. my first stop would be hasedera temple 長谷寺, which has a really nice garden and is famous for its autumn foliage. this temple does have an entrance fee and you will get a postcard in return. the garden area is indeed very beautiful, but there’s also quite a lot of tourist in the area. the japanese zen garden was under construction so only a small part of it was opened. it is a great spot for photos and just to sit and relax and enjoy the beautiful nature.
visiting kamakura is not complete without going to check out one of the greatest buddha statue 鎌倉大仏 at kotoku-in 高徳院. here, you are also recommended to make a donation to enter, and you will receive a postcard as a souvenir. the temple area is very spacious and you will see many tourists taking photos at different angles. the buddha statue is indeed quite awesome and nice to look at.
after walking around so much, i definitely needed a break and some rest, so i head to komachi dori by bus to check out some street food and stores. i bought some fish cake from asahina あさひな which is near the entrance. there’s so many kind of steamed fish cake here, it’s definitely interesting to try some out. kanmidokoro kamakura 甘味処鎌倉 sells really good warabi mochi which i enjoyed at the store and also brought some home to share with my friend. i love warabi mochi very much as it is less sweet and has a very light jelly texture, it goes well with tea.
i also bought some japanese style earrings and some wooden utensils as souvenirs for myself and friends. this street has lots of interesting stores and there’s also some alleys in between that you can explore to find great stores.
a short walk away from the end of komachi dori, i stopped by tsurugaoka hachimangu 鶴岡八幡宮, a very popular shrine in the area. the space here is also huge, and there’s a long flight of stairs going up to the shrine, which i decided not to go, as my legs are hurting. instead, i just explored the open area and took some photos as the sky got dark.
since my friend will be joining for dinner, i head back to enoshima by enoden line and visited the same restaurant that i went to for lunch. to my surprise, they do have a more extensive menu for dinner, which is awesome. we ordered sashimi, seaweed tempura, grilled radish, grilled squid and fish soup hotpot to share with lemon sour for drink. the food is equally, if not more awesome, than the afternoon. the fish soup is highly recommended as the fish is very fresh and the soup is delicious and warm for the cold weather. this restaurant is definitely a must-try for me as the staff are nice and the food is so good and satisfying.
after dinner, we walked to enoshima island again, wanting to check out the night time illumination a samuel cocking garden, however, we arrived too late and they have closed. instead, we just explored the outside area which is also slightly illuminated and the weather was just so nice that night as we walked around, take photos and chit chat along the way.
the walk back to train station was really long, although my legs are really tired and it does hurt, i do enjoy the quietness and the peaceful atmosphere a lot. i wouldn’t get the chance to walk like this anywhere else or any other time. both enoshima and kamakura has so much to offer, i felt that i have only explored a small part of it. if you do have time and option, it would be best to explore each town on separate days so that you get more time to go around, and also would be less tired. XD
felt so good to reach home back in tokyo, took a hot bath to unwind and ready to rest for the night, after sharing the warabi mochi dessert together with my friend.
to be continued...
