hi! i rlly need to hear abt how u reconcile umenobi cuz i dont know a thing abt kemonos plot but like im so intrigued by how the text vs the actual manga describes things..

ok, so the first thing is that we have to keep in mind that nobimaru is a fucking liar who intentionally does things to obfuscate his true personality, so you dont need to take how he acts as literal. in fact, a lot of how he behaves is...almost obvious in how fake or forced it is, especially in later arcs.

secondly, we do have word of god from aimoto saying that "their relationship is developing positively for both of them", (the umetaro bday qna goes more in depth with their relationship) so on that level i can at least say this isnt 100% being pulled out of my ass. it sounds insane when you look at how she describes it as compared to the manga but thats just like, how it is with nobimaru

but tldr, nobimaru fucking with people comes in 2 flavors: malicious and benign. there are occasions where he is genuinely and actively harming people and everyone involved is aware of it, like when he went to kill kaede and akagi. he was still :) and made his little quips, but you can tell from both him and the way people around him act that everyone is well fucking aware that he came here to cut the cameras

(id have to have a lot more time and space to get into nobimarus behavior and textual cues we get irt it in general but. nobimaru here is not being friendly he is ready to kill)

however, hes also just...kind of a little dickhead. the moment he allies himself with inugami + the others, he makes remarks everywhere from about inugami's suffering face, to taking up space in their travel compartment and demanding inugami go tiny because he "never imagined his long legs would backfire here!" to shaking tarouta upside down to free kabane, before making a remark that "it looks like someone shook him up and down violently, what a terrible thing to do". nobimarus just a fucking cunt. but you can start to tell when he means it good-naturedly and it can honestly tip you off to when he favors someone as opposed to characters he treats more distantly (his very professional demeanor with most of the SIU, for example) or maliciously.

so not only do we have umetaros perspective with framing like the kabedon scene and his flusteredness over nobimarus praise and eagerness to please, but we can generally glean that while nobimaru is a fucking cunt, his cuntery with umetaro isnt really done maliciously, and its an indicator that he likes umetaro more than say, hinata or kaede, whom he addresses as subordinates. nobimarus insistence on having umetaro around is another thing, as nobimaru is more than capable of completing missions solo and often would benefit from it, but he seems to just enjoy making umetaro watch him be cool. in a volume extra, the characters "types" are revealed, and nobimarus type is "someone who will fall down to hell with him", so its likely that his teasing is part of that test and umetaro, someone who can read his real feelings (which, kudos man, even im flummoxed there), can pick up on that.

however i do think something is just deeply wrong with umetaro for still being into him through all of this like how badly does he want that twink to be in Evil Fox Murder Village With Dead Men Heads As Part Of The Floral Landscaping Decor. he takes time to think about nobimarus nuts. so while they have something going on for sure just know that both of them are fucking insane for it

red mage: so basically arya should be a thaumaturge or black mage. she's really really good at the destructive magic and terrible at the restorative magics. why find equilibrium when you can min max and be a nuke.

I really like x'rhun, great character

given x'rhun's history in the ala mhigo im disappointed the 60-70 storyline isn't going there, ah well time to see what idyllshire has in store.

I was just thinking at the end of the level 60 quest if X'ruhn is in his 40s then lambert probably is too and arya looks to be a teenager, wouldn't it be be messed up is she was his daughter or something. the only reason i didn't quite believe it is because lambert said he's been in a magical coma for many years.

fake memories? artificial humans? many possibilities.

i think its pretty interesting that despite its reputation it is not black magic that is the successor to void magic, it is red magic. and this is despite both black and void magic originating from mhach.

irony that the swashbuckling aesthetic class ends up being the demon summoning dark magic storyline.

wait that coffin is why witchdrop is haunted??

whm: castrum oriens is an odd name given how it means east but is situated in the WESTERN part of the garlean empire

huh you can tell who is a padjal at birth. i remember reading in encyclopaedia eorzea or something that children only find out they're a padjal when the horn start growing in at like 10-15.

uh sylphie aren't you like 14. letting at 14 year old run the show and keep secrets from the conjurers guild while void sent are running around sounds like a recipe for disaster.

why not relocate both gatty and sanche to gridania. sanche would get better medical treatment, gatty would remain with her mother, there would be more conjurers on hand to deal with voidsent incidents, and there would be padjal on hand to tutor gatty.

the writers did this to keep sylphie's importance to the plot but this is a massive plot hole that e-sumi is having sylphie be gatty's teacher. first because as e-sumi himself said sylphie is still learning as an acolyte herself, she might have powerful instinctual magic but her learned knowledge isn't that good. second she wouldn't know white magic or padjal specific stuff. this is such a bad decision. also sylphie is still a kid has shown to be overwhelmed by the scale of this problem and having to take care of and be responsible for another kid. i guess the excuse is that it's technically the wol who's suppose to be doing the teaching but we all know that the player isn't going to be doing anything.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions actually deserves all the hate it gets: I cannot think of a single positive it possesses that does not come with a “but” attached.

Music: The JPop is alright, but nearly every dungeon theme is actively annoying to listen to.

Gameplay: A fast-forward button does not change the fact that you are rewarded for doing well in battles with longer animations and less involvement. Nearly every fight is only interesting once.

Story: They could have done something good here. They didn’t. For starters when is Fortunate even founded? When the hell did Touma and Kiria get involved? I don’t think the final boss comes out of nowhere like other people seem to think, but there could be so many more interesting things to do with antagonists. The biggest problem, however, comes from its characters, and its nonsense pacing. the prologue seems to suggest that Tsubasa only tries to get into the idol industry to find her sister. What is the first chapter? Finding her sister! Much like the overeager virgin on prom night, this story has blown its load too early to be satisfying. There’s even a fake kidnapping scene later! Do you realize how easy it would have been to have that be for real?

Characters (Except for Akagi Touma. Best boy.): I like them in theory only. The side stories are nice, but most of them don’t do nearly enough. Tsubasa and Yashiro are foils, both of them lost people in the mass disappearance, so why do they only talk like twice? And don’t even get me started on Itsuki. Bland harem mc lookin’ mfer. This man is such a blank slate that we know of precisely zero hobbies that he has. The only interesting thing he has going for him is a joke about him being incredibly descriptive about food. And then there’s the implied love square between him and every female performer in the party. A word of advice: don’t give the player needless conflict without giving them the option to resolve it!

man, kanata akagi is just Going Through It in type redline. like, shirou was also Going Through It but he at least knew somewhat what it was, and sieg was born already knowing he was going to die to serve as fuel for the servants

but kanata was a relatively normal guy (sure, he knew magic and could do it but he wasnt a Magus) who was a fan of a light novel that depicted a grail war during WW2, and then he went to visit his grandmother's house one last time, and time travelled to said war. he learned his grandma fought in it, and ended up stealing her servant and taking her place in the war. and not even 5 minutes after that, he already had to fight a fake servant and nobunaga (who is just terrifying in this war compared to fgo) and almost died

and it just gets worse. the next day his servants wipes out a company of soldiers sent after him, all the whole looking completely emotionless (while he got traumatized), and the history he once knew was charging. and things just keep getting worse, bc hes now on the path to fight berserker

being kanata is suffering

I revisited episode 10 for something I'm making about Hideo Akagi, and... the girl who claims that she was dating Shinichi, Ryoko Akagi... is she /not/ Hideo Akagi's actual young sister? Shinichi said she was using a fake name. Mamoru called her "Ryoko-neechan", implying that he looks up to her as a older sister figure. Can you help me figure this out? I know she only appears in this one episode lol

Little kids use that honorific all the time in the show even if they’re not related. Conan and the Detective Boys call Ran Ran-neechan for example. :3 Ryoko in that story was just a friend. She had used the last name Akagi so others wouldn’t question her bringing people to a building with that last name written on it everywhere. Conan picked up on her lie when Ryoko clearly didn’t know where anything was like the utensils and teapot, among other things.

My brother and I, but especially by brother, are big fans of the work of a mangaka named Noboyuki Fukomoto. He writes very good gambling thrillers with a grimy art style that, although initially unappealing, becomes an essential piece to the storytelling and tone of his narratives. Although the author is worshipped in Japan to the point that there is a fake grave for one of his characters, Akagi, and his death is an annual event, his work has yet to hit it big in the US.

Because of this, fan translations of the manga have basically been the only way to consume these stories, and there was one specific figurehead at the top of the main group who did the most well known and high quality ones. However, the community completely and utterly fell apart a few years ago.

Basically, this figurehead's dad died, and at the peak of his grief his religious family swooped in like vultures and immediately set to converting him to Christianity. As a result he has become more depressed than he was but so severely emotionally manipulated that he thinks the only path he CAN take is being religious. And as a result of that, the entire fan translation community has collapsed in on itself, leaving it in the hands of a much more awful person, all because he has been led to believe the manga is sinful.

Obviously it sucks that these fan translations aren't going to continue anymore but I think the real lesson is how insidious people who follow Christianity without actually appreciating and following the lessons of the book are. Christians by and large consider control to be the most important part of the religion rather than being a good person, and this is a prime example. As soon as this poor man was at his lowest they worked their hardest to convert him, which didn't help him process his grief at all and made it impossible for him to believe he was allowed to work on something that brought him a lot of joy.

When I say I hate Christianity this story is a pretty big example of why.
