i'm pretty sure this is for no one but i think a collection of Book of Hours (the game) fanknits would be pretty neat - one for each of the parts of the soul, maybe some of the skills
Huge huge huge thank you to @whitehareknits for this gorgeous Crowley inspired scarf. It's long and silvery and the beads have snakes on them! It's beautiful and I love it. She has an Etsy store. Check her out!
I *want* to be, but the books I’d be writing fanfic of, I’m actually pretty confident that the author will get around to exploring the stories that I’m interested in eventually.
(Celia Lake, for the curious. She write gorgeous 1920s (and more) romances in alternate magical Britain, and I have every faith that if I *did* start writing fic, I’d be able to play for ages in her world because there’s just so much richness of background characters.)
But. I’m not writing fic, because of a couple of reasons.
Instead I’m committing fanknitting, which is frankly weird. And delightful. And weird.
I am looking to get HYPED for Testament of Loki; it’s due out on May the 17th though I still have to organise with my local bookshop a pre-order if I can even afford that right now (sidebar: if you can support your local bookstore instead of purchasing online! I know it’s usually about $5-$10 more expensive but consider it book tax to keep bookstores around because let’s be real, the world would really suck without bookstores, and let’s be realler, when a bookstore closes a fairy dies).
We’re a slow-moving and pretty small fandom and we’re spread over the world so the book may be releasing at different dates depending on translation and country. If you see this post leave a comment below or a letter in my inbox to note when you can afford to/plan to/are physically and legally able to get your hands on Testament of Loki, and maybe we’ll organise some sort of Runemarks month for fanart and fanfic and fanknitting! I’ve always wanted to get us involved with some sort of materal-generating prompt-based malarkey, especially seeing as we’re lucky to have some great artists, but unlucky in that the characters listed in the Runebooks outnumber the amount of fanfics we have.
I'm still reading some tags about wanting a tutorial so I'm guessing some people can't see my reblog in the replies?? Anyway, thought I would post this tutorial/guide seperately just in case!
First, I used three different colours (DK yarn, 3.5mm hook) for an ombre effect. The crochet pattern is adapted from 'basic crochet leaf' by sweet softies 🍃
The front two yellow leaves I made longer: ch15, insert into 2nd ch from hook and slip st, sc, hdc, hdc, dc, dc, tr, tr, tr, q, q, q, q, tr+tr+dc in the last ch, continue on the other side of the chain mirroring the first side.
Then I made 4 amber and 18 red leaves (but this will depend on how long your ribbon is): ch12, insert into 2nd chain from hook and sl st, sc, hdc, dc, tr, tr, q, q, q, q, tr, dc+dc+hdc in last ch, continue and mirror on other side. Weave in all the ends!
For the band, I measured it around my head and added some extra length to attach the hair comb. Mine was 32cm (not incl comb length) but that ended up making it difficult to put on so I would recommend making it a little longer (35cm second time round)!
My ribbon was fabric so I poked the hair comb teeth through. If you don't have fabric that can do this, I think using crocodile clips is a good alternative and might actually make it easier to put on.
Then I used sewing thread and just placed the leaves on and sew them in, trying to overlap them to hide the ribbon underneath. They ended up curling a lot though so if anyone knows how to stop that, please let me know!
And now your done!! Happy crafting!! This one is available on my depop or just dm me 👑🍁🍂
