Happy WIP Wednesday!
This first bits are from chapter three of my slowburn Dead on Main DPxDC fic, "Putting the 'Fun' Back in 'Funeral'", and the second is from a little crackfic I'm writing because oh god I made C3 very depressing and it made me sad. The first part of PFBF is from Danny's POV and the second from Jason's.
Just an FYI none of this has been beta'ed yet, so please pardon any errors!
.
While the local ghost hero was waiting for a response, he was lazily heading south from Fentonworks. Easily drifting on his back above the cloud layer currently overhanging Amity, Danny couldn’t help but rest his heavy gaze upon the millions of twinkling stars before him. It was only twenty-four hours ago that he had fought his last ghost as a semi-normal person. His entire world had shifted, changing completely. Danny now had the ultimate power of the Ghost Zone. It was a startling realization that hit him quickly and he couldn’t help but grieve his childhood. While he hadn’t really had much of one in the first place, Danny still wished things could have been different. That he was in university with his friends, studying astrophysics, trying to be an astronaut.
But no. He had to step into a portal to a different dimension and have it open up on top of him. He had to die before he even started highschool - and he couldn’t even do that correctly.
A loud groan of annoyance left cold lips, gloved hands coming up to grasp at white hair. The ghost boy flipped around to float on his belly, facing the dark clouds rumbling below him. Grasping on the tingling feeling of intangibility, Danny summoned his power to the forefront of his being before letting gravity take hold of his form. He dropped quickly towards the ground, eyes closed. It was from years of practice that he knew when to allowed such a pesky notion of gravity peel away from him, his monochrome shape hovering just above the down-trodden apartment complex he called home.
A bright flash lit the sky behind Danny’s still form, the clap of thunder chasing behind not even a second later. Bright green eyes tracked his shadow as the late-spring lightning storm passed through Amity. He hovered there, for a moment. Allowing the wild winds whip around him and such a storm’s power picked up, shaking the leaves of blossomed trees. Distantly, Danny registered that rain began drizzling from the cloudbed he was just so far above. It was with a mournful shake that Danny finally moved to enter his barren apartment.
When his boots lightly tapped his threadbare carpet floors, Danny let the rings of his transformation wash over him. Gone was the royal outfit he had still yet to inspect, and in its place was the slightly dirty clothes the young man had pulled from his floor earlier that very day. Black hair flopped to cover his eyes, no longer snow-white and being kept out of view by his powers. It was with a quiet sigh that Danny moved to push the strands back, pulling his beat-up phone out from his pocket.
With practiced movements, Danny allowed himself to fall back onto the worn couch shoved in the middle of his living room. The halfa didn’t move to turn on the lights around him - there would be no point in it, after all. He could see better than an average human. Just another of the many side-effects of half-dying.
A quick entering of his password had Danny’s cracked phone unlocked, icy blue eyes skimming the two messages of confirmation from Sam and Tucker. Quickly tapping out “jazz?” and smacking the send button allowed Danny to let the device fall onto his lap. He threw his arms back dramatically, face tipping back to eye the water damage on his ceiling critically.
He really should put in a maintenance notice.
.
It was there that Jason could see the form of Dick, back turned towards Jason as the elder fiddled with something on his light-stained butcher block countertops. As much as Jason wanted to annoy his brother by sneaking up on the distracted Nightwing, exhaustion still pulled heavily on his limbs.
“Didn’t I say that any bannings in Alfred’s kitchen extended to my own?”
The question clearly startled Dick, but he didn’t show it besides turning around with a bright grin.
“That’s only for cooking, Little Wing!” The older winked at his brother, gesturing him closer with his hand. “I ordered some delivery, I got your favorite from that one Thai place.”
Jason couldn’t help the creeping excitement in his voice as he fully stepped into the kitchen space. “Moo Yai?”
“Of course.”
Clapping a hand on Dick’s shoulder, Jason easily reached up to start grabbing the dishware the two of them would need. He passed Dick whatever he grabbed with a practiced ease.
Having various Bats and Birds hide away from the rest of the family at Jason’s apartment had become something the young man had come to expect. Often, he was told it was due to the coziness of his loft or his cooking prowess. He knew it wasn’t only because of those two things. The theme of finding one of his siblings breaking into his home had only begun after a particularly bad incident at the manor which caused Dick and Tim to recruit the others into making sure Jason was okay. It was information that he was not supposed to be privy to, but after the first time Tim had passed out at Jason’s place, he managed to snoop through the younger’s phone and put two and two together.
It wasn’t something Jason was… against, per se. But it was annoying when he was having a particularly bad day with the Pit Rage and he was surrounded by people he didn’t want to hurt again.
However, despite everything, moving around another person (or persons) in his kitchen had become a routine. One he never expected, but he was grateful for it all the same.
.
This next bit is from a pure DP one-shot within the realms of "crack treated seriously". I'm hoping to get it posted in a few days!
.
The last couple of weeks had been a chaotic stream of pandemonium. It all started with one Vlad Masters pulling an absolute Fruit Loop move which resulted in an ancient evil being awoken from his sleep. A sleep that, according to any ghost willing to talk to Danny, Pariah Dark was forced into because he was the Biggest Crazy Ever™. Of course, Danny did what any fourteen year-old superhero would do! He fought the bad guy, locked him back up in his creepy sarcophagus in his creepy castle, and then passed the fuck out.
Worst of all, that wasn’t even the really chaotic part.
No, that had to come after Danny had woken up in his bed with Jazz fretting over him. A ghost Danny had never before met had begun haunting him whenever he went on patrols. The clock-themed ghost had started off with saying things like “You bested Pariah Dark in single combat, now it is your time to take the crown” and “Young Danny, you must come back into the Infinite Realms and take your place as the Crowned Head.”
And look, Danny wasn’t the smartest kid on the block. He didn’t have the best grades, was often oblivious, and tended to ignore things that he didn’t want to deal with.
So he just ignored the blue annoyance following him everywhere.
That is, until the dang ghost stopped time and made him listen. Clockwork, which was apparently the ghost’s name, all but dragged him into the Ghost Zone, set him in front of Pariah Dark’s spooky coffin, and made him eat part of the ghost?! Apparently a “core” is something that all ghosts have but it was still gross! Danny kept throwing up afterwards, but he couldn’t seem to upchuck the weird pearl thing he had been made to swallow like an angry cat that wouldn’t take their medicine.
And now he’s here. Sitting in Mr. Lancer’s English period, waiting for the clock to tick by and end his day.
Danny’s stomach started to feel a bit weird mid-way through the previous class (algebra one with one of the football coaches) and he was fully planning on heading to the Far Frozen once the day is done.
The Far Frozen was an area in the Ghost Zone that the ghostly blue annoyance had herded him to before forcing him to eat another person. The ghost yetis there were pretty cool and were basically ghostly doctors. One of the yetis, Frostbite, had made some awesome hot chocolate and Danny was absolutely craving it. He figured it was because his stomach was upset and he really didn’t want Jazz hovering over him.
So, therefore, a trip to the Zone for some hot chocolate with some ghost yetis.
.
Hope you guys enjoyed the WIPs :) Chapter three should be posted within a couple of weeks, and I'm hoping to get the silly little fic posted before the end of March uwu

RATING THE SINNER'S ROOMS ON HOW INHOSPITABLE TO LIFE THEY ARE
DON QUIXOTE - 6/10 IT'S DOWNRIGHT OKAY IN HERE
Tumblr media
Don is the only sinner who knows what "decorating" is. She's got a carpet or mat of some kind so sleeping here would not be absolutely dismal. And they let her keep her fixer figurines which is nice.
HONG LU - 5.5/10 MONEY CAN BE EXCHANGED FOR GOODS AND SERVICES
Tumblr media
Having so much gold and treasure chests everywhere probably makes it a bit hard to move around the room. But at least his chair looks comfortable.
SINCLAIR - 5/10 CHAIR
Tumblr media
Nice of them to give him a chair to Shinji pose in. Sucks that the chair will give him back pain at the tender age of 20.
MEURSAULT - 4/10 PAGE 77 LINES 12-15 ALBERT CAMUS' THE STRANGER (EN TRANSLATION BY MATTHEW WARD)
Tumblr media
"There were others worse off than me. Anyway, it was one of Maman's ideas and she often repeated it, that after a while you could get used to anything."
FAUST - 3.5/10 INTJ ROOM
Tumblr media
Well she was given a plain white tile room originally but she had to go and be an INTJ about it and now there's formulas on the wall.
YI SANG - 3/10 GLASS ON THE FLOOR
Tumblr media
Similar to Faust, Yi Sang was given nothing but a white tiled room. But he got glass on the floor so it adds an element of danger. We are now entering the "Rooms with potential for bodily harm, be it illness or injury" zone.
RODYA - 2/10 A BIT CHILLY
Tumblr media
No matter how cute your fur-trimmed pajamas are, they will not save you from frostbite. Sorry about your neighbors also. Mind the blood.
GREGOR - 1.5/10 TETANUS
Tumblr media
While I understand the symbolism of him feeling like just another weapon of war, abandoned when the smoke war ended, there are just a lot of chances to get tetanus here. Not a good place to sleep.
HEATHCLIFF - 1/10 AND IS CATHERINE EARNSHAW IN THE ROOM WITH US NOW?
Tumblr media
Not only does he have a roommate who's been festering for god knows how long, but due to being British he's discovered a way to make it rain INSIDE! He will be joining Rodya in the hypothermia club if he tries to sleep in these conditions.
RYOSHU - 0.5/10 FIRE SAFETY
Tumblr media
Sorry about your daughter. We put a bunch of candles in a wooden room for you. You don't like the candles because they remind you of how your daughter died? Okay sorry. The room will catch fire any second now so you shouldn't have to worry about it.
OUTIS - 0/10 TETANUS, TRENCHFOOT, AND OTHER AILMENTS.
Tumblr media
Not to be outdone by Heathcliff and Gregor, Outis has combined the worst of tetanus risks and dead bodies wrapped in barbed wire. Then turned it up orders of magnitude larger. It'll probably take her at least 10 years, experiencing many perils and losing all of her crewmates in the process, to return home. Sucks that they couldn't at least give her a chair in the meantime.
ISHMAEL - WATER/10
Tumblr media
WATER.

That was one hell of a part 2 good lordy. I have SO many thoughts but I cannot put all into words for now, here's some though.
Dante is being real quiet [sus especially after how much they talked in canto 5, plus how they seemed seemed realise that they need to actually take part in helping the sinners proper] and they are [seemingly] the only sinner one could connect to Carmen [literally all of the chirstian symbolism, the way the static on her appearances was similar to the static Dante has seen on AFD and their overheating, the fact she seemed to speak through them at that point]. I am probably just reading into things but after the whiplash of how much they usually talk - internally and externally - I am very much getting a sinking feeling something's wrong.
Basements are evil. Hong Lu is rich enough to have a basement in his houses. He will probably have an evil basement. I would bet money on this, especially if its a sort of 'other world' as alluded to in his book (that I have not read. It does mention a Land of Illusion if i recall, however, so possibly a door to that). Bonus points if it ends up being upside down or smth.
Would the 'chaotic' part of the golden bough ( of 'em at least) have any sorta relation to why we Heath's E.G.O seemed unstable? I know most of the other distortions/E.G.O awakenings happened near boughs - which connects to the theory that they are directly related to Carmen and thus allow her to talk to people more easily like with the monolith - either Dante's fragment or a full one, but the specific mention of a chaotic one could mean it's responsible for Bodysack seeming to have corroded, as one can see the warning labels typical of a corroding E.G.O.
Given Faust's change in behaviour - namely stuttering for what I believe to be the first time - regarding the conversations around the 'creation of humans' I do believe this was how she was made. Yi Sang did say he made the tech used within the pods in that very basement, and the fact that he was the first recruit could mean that the Faust who approached him is not the same Faust on the bus. The idea of her being a metric fucktonna ID's layered on top of each other firstly explains the Council of Fausts theory, wherein she is able to talk to other versions of herself, in this case because that's what she is, as well as what Dante says about her looking somewhere else before answering. Mirrors alter perception, so her looking at a different Faust for answers could explain that as well. Work's too with her base E.G.O, wherein three shadows seem to point out an answer on her wall of notes. She has all the knowledge, she just needs her other selves to point it out when needed - thus her evasive attitude when it comes to answers, she needs time to get it pointed out.
On that note, do you think her attitude in Selva Obscura is a reflection of og!Faust, but she drops the act later on once Dante has fully forgotten their past? She doesn't really get that jokey after that.
Like how the middle seemed to be the antithesis of Ishmael in C5 part 2, the ring seems to be Heath's. The middle represented how Ishy as a person was mostly incompatibility with 'the bit', in the form of a situation that is remarkably silly on paper but ended up in near total annihilation of the group. The ring may represent how some may look for deeper meanings in all things from arts to people, which clashes wickedly against Heathcliff's more straightforward approach when it comes to handling situations. The dredges of the ring are those parts of him that overthink and he solves the problem as simply as he's been solving many others.
Cathy in a Coffin reminds me of when Carmen was content enough to haunt the narrative from her Bucket. Nothing else to say here except for the fact it's funny.
But back to Carmen, and more particularly 'fate' regarding distortions. The theme of denying of what 'should've happened' is a decently big theme of limbus - from the rewinding death to even subverting what happens from any literary source material - so if they end up going 'Carmen no Carming' to her later on, defying someone who seems to be as much of a god-like entity as the Head in some ways, I would not be surprised if we either get a visit from Iori, one of Demian's lot or another Lo9 member - x or current. Additionally, defying fate may just be what brings back Heathcliff from the edge, keeping Cathy alive in this mirror world but presumably in a weird weirdass way. My guess is that she distorts and gets nabbed by LCD - but I also just wanna see Moses so.
Also hey what happened to the seven strikes of lightning. Are they gonna be in Heath's distortion dungeon or something? No clue.
And I think that's it. Gonna stare at a wall for a while now methinks
OK SO FIRST UP THERE ARE A LOT OF THINGS HERE SO I'LL TRY TO ANSWER TO THESE CONCISELY
Now that you mentioned it, it was always very strange how Faust is Number 2 despite being there first and her mugshot having already been in uniform, so now that you mention her different attitude in the Prologue I honestly see a lot to what you are bringing up here. It was always a personal theory of mine that Faust's real "Mephistopheles" was Sang Yi or Yi Sang somehow, since Sang Yi still to seems to be a rather...odd entity that doesn't correspond to any particular mirror world and is implied by Yi Sang to have some degree of omniscience (and there's also that marked part in the dungeon where he "mysteriously dissapeared" for some time with no explanation), so she might have gotten Yi Sang to do the procedure that would give her this infinite knowledge, specially since even Yi Sang himself emphasizes on her having been "gifted" with omniscience, I Highly doubt he's being figurative here, even more with her EGO's background being the shadows of multiple people.
In regards to Dante not speaking I think it's simply because of the difference in situation, unlike Ishmael who was very clearly out of control due to her own mindset, Heathcliff is being driven over the edge by circumstance -- and some quite insane circumstances at that, so it might be why they could not intervene, but hopefully they'll step up when we get to the next part, specially since we'll be dealing with Distorted Heathcliff....and also, it's very interesting that we actually got Heathcliff's POV on how it felt to Distort. It might be Dante's connection to Carmen and The Sinners aligning at once.
And also, Catherine is def a Carmen expy (I actually did my own analysis some time ago in similarities Kromer, Ahab and Dongbaek had with Carmen too but this one is the most. Insanely explicit similarity) and the fact that she speaks to "Welcome Heathcliff home" at the very end in her own voice alongside Carmen...I can't help but feel she might have been planning to get Heathcliff to Distort all along as part of her personal plan that they can be together happy in Hell. The Overclocking symptoms seem to have been an indicator of Heathcliff approaching Distortion, I really like how...drastically different it feels from the awakened Crow's Eye View and Snagharpoon, and just in general how they completely threw the formula that had been built up until now out of the window (heh)
Either way, thanks for shooting me a message! It's always fun to get to hear other people's observations and theories and share my own two cents along the way
Edit: I forgor but frankly if Hong Lu has yet another Creepy Rich Person basement I think I'll bash my head against the wall. The real moral of Limbus is that basements are bad and evil. Sorry there are just So many good observations here and I'm a bit scatterbrained at times shfhh
In regards to the "fate" thing, I feel like that will be a big part of dealing with Heathcliff next part, Limbus Company as a game and story is built on the reimaginings or "what ifs" or classics, and we've seen it with Yi Sang that his ending was changed in the end; the original Yi Sang died and the protagonist of The Wings commits suicide, but he rejected all of that, while Ishmael was on her path to repeat the cycle of the story of Moby Dick but thanks to Dante and Heathcliff she rejected that as well. And the title of "Clear All Cathy" really establishes from the first moment the goal this time. We'll have to wait another week to see how it rolls.

Valentine's day
The first character that came to my mind when I think of Valentine's Day was Charles Henry Sanson. Have no idea why. No, that's a lie. He loves everyone and is always ready to present himself to anyone. So… he is, in fact, the perfect Valentine's present.
But… MC described his smile as the brightest and most beautiful smile she had ever seen. But… If you look at him more closely, the smile does not reach his eyes. Even a person who is not very good at reading faces will notice that something is off.
Tumblr media
Do you see it too?
So… I decided to combine all the beautiful and very real smiles that I love so much, in order… I don't know… to show how to do it properly. Charles, watch and learn!
Ikemen Sengoku is the richest for the real smiles. Almost all the characters smile so sweetly and tenderly that it is very difficult not to fall for them. Not my favorite, but undoubtedly an extremely beautiful Ranmaru's smile.
Tumblr media
Keiji looks so good, no matter the expression on his face. I like him more when he lets his hair down… And his real smile is rare, so it warms my heart to see it.
Tumblr media
The rarest smile Kenshin has. And that makes it even more precious.
Tumblr media
And, of course, my favorites… Mitsuhide, Yuki, and the sweetest smile of them all is Ieyasu.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
There aren't many smiles in Ikemen Prince that I really like.
The brightest smile has…. Gilbert, of course. He smiles so often that he polished it to perfection.
Tumblr media
Clavis is the cutest, then he has a worried expression on his face. But it still feels like a smile.…
Tumblr media
And my beloved Licht is famous for a smile that appears/disappears at lightning speed. At a drunken event, he let us see it for so long that it seems to good to be true.
Tumblr media
And despite my deep and undying love for Silvio… I don't find his smile sincere. Don't get me wrong… I love it too, but I can't show it to Charles as an example.
Just like the Princes, there aren't many smiles in Ikemen Revolution I really like.
Loki has the most memorable smile. He's a Cheshire cat, of course, he has a beautiful smile. And Harr has the sweetest smile of all. It's still a half smile, but his eyes have such beautiful wrinkles (somewhere behind his bang… I'm sure).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ikemen Villains
I like Liam's smile. It's so sweet. His eyes are still sad, but he looks genuinely happy. Perhaps the fact that he is an actor plays a huge role, but I think it's the perfect smile.
Tumblr media
The rarest and most unexpected is Jude's smile. Someday my heart will burst with happiness looking at him…
Tumblr media
Ellis, my beautiful angel… sometimes his smile is very creepy, but this one seemed sweet and sincere to me.
Tumblr media
And my latest discovery Ikemen Genjiden.
I love Yoichi… I love him more than I should. And most of all, I like the character design. In my eyes, he is so perfect that I didn't understand how to choose another character until I found my second huge obsession (a bit lower).
This is from a recent event. Those eyes are full of adoration and a sweet sincere smile… He's too good.
Tumblr media
And Yoshitsune (at first I called him Zombie… not anymore). The same, from the last event. This sweet smile and the way he looks at me… It's too much…
Tumblr media
I believe there are more, but these two are at the top of my list right now, and I'm not particularly interested in looking at the rest.
And now… the most difficult. I don't like the smiles on Ikemen Vampire. They are either half-smiles (almost everyone, even my beloved Dr. Faust), or very excessive and obviously not sincere (Arthur, Dazai). That's probably why I'm not really fond of this game… Hmmm...
So… here it is… I've given you a lot of examples. Smile properly from now on, Charles! Happy Valentine's Day!

It’s me again,
So I actually will celebrate Walpurgisnacht at the Blocksberg this year. Needless to say, I won’t go naked (like witches do) but as a modernized, female version of Mephistopheles from Faust. Corset etc will hopefully arrive soon.
Do you think Mephisto actually celebrates it even though he is an outcast among demons? In Faust, Mephistopheles is the Master of witches. Does it apply to the AnE universe too?
Oh you bet he does!
Its a big ass party filled with horny, weird, crazy humans (and demons/elves/witches, supposedly) Why, the party couldn't start without him! Or if it did, he'd be deeply offended lol.
What's more, Walpurgisnacht would be just the sort of party he would crash in Ye Olden Times given that it started as a Christian, holy festival to repel witches. Go back a bit and you get Beltane, the party he'd really like to be a part of, a coinciding Wicca festival dedicated to the appeasement of Fair Folk by, basically, conjuring a protective fire spirit Myodha style, actually. (Who knows, maybe Ucchusma? Even Karura?). There was a bunch of other stuff done in the name of appeasing the spirits/gods, and in particular a god and goddess of special interest to Samael:
If you go back far enough, Walpurgisnacht began as Beltane, which began originally as the veneration of the healing god Belenus and fertility goddess Belisama...
...which are the Celtic names of Apollo and Artemis, respectively.
Now Apollo is almost certainly kin of Lucifer, and Artemis is likely to be kin of Shemihaza - though personally I think they're both the hybrid children of the two gods, if such a thing is possible. Their mythos both coincide with that idea, since both twins have healing and nature powers and are the son and daughter of Helios, the sun God.
Either that or they're Nephilim of Lucifer, raised under Shemihazas influence. Or possibly each Nephilim in their own right, that were simply so close in age and intimacy they were regarded as twins or siblings. Who knows if canon will ever tell us. :)
Anyway, would it not be the most funnest thing ever for our pesky demon Lord to crash a party dedicated to his own niece and nephews honor? Lol. Especially as they double as the children of his bitter rival! Talk about having a crazy uncle!
So yes - I think he started crashing that party long ago to spite his brother and it's become a habit for him to just show up there. Enough of one that he's become expected even lol. Even after its conversion into the Christian commemoration of St. Walpurga, a lot of the traditions didn't change form, but they did change reason. What used to be fires to appease and repel bad spirits now were fires to keep witches, demons and the Devil himself at bay.
So even after the banning of Beltane he'd have just that much more reason to go since, Y'know, having the Devil crash the party of a Christian Saint is actually half the reason for the party in the first place - Why wouldn't he show up in exactly the place he wasn't wanted? Especially given all the fuss about keeping him away! 😆 Don't tell me he wouldn't have an absolute blast with that.
As to his connection with witches, I do think he has a special connection with them, as he does with many people's that are classically oppressed in or associated with his name (as the Devil).
Canon doesn't give us a lot of info about witches, only that the mothers of Nephilim are generally regarded as such. However, the guidelines on what constitutes witchcraft by Catholic interpretation actually includes quite a bit of what Exorcists do on the day-to-day, so 🤷. Given that he oversees one of the most active branches in the True Cross order and is the only true Ba'al still active on the Grigori Council, I would certainly, by any stretch of the Catholic meaning of witch, call him a Lord of Witches lol.
Hope that satisfies!

Ao3 Orphan Stories
Some are already aware that there has been a rush of Orphaned stories on Ao3 that are of a more explicit nature. Without going into detail, the primary theme is Terra Snapdragon in sexual situations that range from curious to morbid. While I wholeheartedly stand by the right we all have as authors and fans to write what we please, it is very clear many of these works take direct inspiration from MY works.
Now, I have no issue with someone seeing what I do and getting ideas and writing them out. By all means, let the creative juices flow. It’s not necessarily all to my taste, and it doesn’t have to be - as the author, while orphaning the stories, is writing them for themselves. And I am NOT bashing on that.
However, the latest story "For Paradise" (I won't link it here, you can search it via the Terra Snapdragon tag – mind the tags, it is Explicit and highly sexual) took a direct creation of mine to play a front and center role in the story.
To clarify, I am NOT the author of any of these orphaned works. I have nothing to hide. I will show you my morbid and tag it accordingly. Hence, I wanted to address the usage of my created race, the Dratanae, in that latest work.
The very first mention of the Dratanae is seen in my Faust/Terra story "A Discussion Between Business Associates." Principal Faust, known as Faust of the clan Drikhartae in my fancanon, is one of these demons.
In canon, we know next to nothing about Faust's actual race or its extra characteristics or if it has an outside culture and so on. So I took liberties since there was very little development of his character. I've spoken about his race in my fancanon frequently here on tumblr; you can find these posts by just searching "Faust." Hettie is also included as she is a Dratanae/Witch hybrid and there is a whole post going over her as well. That said, I've not given a full and complete rundown of Faust's culture or the Dratanae's biology - which is to say the author of this most recent orphan story has taken liberties of their own that are NOT accurate to my creation. And this is true both in the Dratanae's culture and their biological functions.
Again, not bashing the author, we all have a right to write what we please, but since they pulled a specific race of my creation into their writing, I wanted to make this known.
Let me know if you have any questions about the Dratanae, whether that be of their biology or their culture and lifestyle.
And to the author of "For Paradise": I'm assuming you didn't realize Dratanae weren't canon to the series. However, in the future, when taking inspiration from my work, I'd appreciate a more thorough dive into at least the Owl House Wiki to clarify whether it's actual canon or original content I've created. And if it's clearly not canon, and to play a central role in your work, such as with "For Paradise," either a request for permission or a quick citation would also be appreciated.

Coming up for Air…and answering some Asks while I can!
I finally have some time to catch up on some Asks. There aren't that many, but I do try to respond quickly because I enjoy the discussion! And a special shout out to the one who likes my blog. THANK YOU! Saving Mariinsky-China Tour topics for another post. Questions edited for brevity: Thoughts on Sofya Maimula? I believe she's a fairly recent grad from BBA, no? I haven't really followed her, but I recall seeing class footage with her and thinking that she looked exactly like Vaziev's ballet ideal — long thin limbs, beautiful feet. I hope to see her more though. In general, I feel like following the Bolshoi is like drinking from a firehose. So many dancers, so many performances. It's hard to keep up!
Yaroslavna Kuprina is no longer scheduled for Paquita & Gamzatti… I have no idea why, but I'm assuming it's injury related, which is such a shame. I don't think they pulled her for being unprepared. Hopefully, more news will come out soon and wish her a speedy recovery if that is indeed the issue. However, I also fall into the camp that it is just WAY too soon for these recent grads to be given such huge roles. I mean….Koshkareva / Koshkaryova (sp?) will be dancing the lead role in the Diamonds section of Jewels in November. I don't care how good she is….THAT. IS. CRAZY. Is it hard on Vaganova students to have such old teachers, whose deaths would devastate their young pupils. Total speculation here, but I think it's quite the opposite given how much reverence dancers have for beloved teachers and coaches. Teachers are respected and admired for their wisdom and guidance — the time and attention they give to young dancers is precious. I think it's a cultural norm and their ballet schools and companies have benefitted from having that depth of knowledge and experience. Here's one for The Olds! Thoughts on fast-tracking Arina Denisova and Eva Seergenkova? Ooof. Watching the clips of Denisova was rooouuuuugh. She's not ready and may never be, honestly. Blame falls squarely on the artistic staff for this call. They put an inexperienced and unprepared ballerina on the stage of the Bolshoi to dance, arguably, one of the hardest ballets in the repertoire. WTH. Are they trying to break her? Her Nikiya was also very rough. I just don't understand. I believe that Seegenkova has way more potential, and her performances seem more technically sound. Although she's had a very meteoric rise that felt way too rushed (now the norm at The Big) I think she'll grow into her aristry with more experience and confidence. As a comparison, I watched a video that someone put together of Renata Shakirova's first DQ — and a very recent one. The growth in technique, artistry, stagecraft was evident. It's amazing that we have videos at our fingertips to observe it. Mariinsky performing Walpugisnact on Oct. 4th It's different than the Balanchine version. You can see snippets online…I've seen both Iliushkina and Osmolkina perform this piece, which I understand to be a ballet interstitial from the opera Faust. BTW, Osmolkina is pretty f-ing good. Just watch some clips of her….you won't be sorry! Shock that Koshkreva & Kuprina have been given some corps-level roles such as Prince's Friends in Swan Lake & Peasant PDD in Giselle, while also dancing Gamzatti and the Paquite Grand Pas….doesn't seem a fair or balanced workload. So the norm for recent grads would be dancing the featured Prince's Friends pas de trois in Swan Lake, or the Peasant PDD in Giselle, so I don't find this odd. A lot of soloists also dance these two roles at the Bolshoi & Mariinsky. They are featured parts just not THE LEADING role. But in the bigger picture, casting at the Bolshoi will always remain a mystery to me. See above about Denisova.
I'm sorry if this is a silly question but would you have any clue about how the logistics of a ballet tour work? Thinking about the Mariinsky's upcoming tour in China. Not silly at all. And….I have NO idea! But that is such a good question and one for the likes of a stage manager professional! I do have a friend who worked in post-production/studio work for the Olympics at NBC, and they would charter a cargo plane (I think several) and ship all of their production gear to wherever the Olympics was taking place. So I'm assuming it's a similar task: Box it up, load it onto a plane, and set it up at the destination. The donkey in DQ probably stays back in St. Petersburg, though.
Speculation that they are preparing Kulikova for a big role soon…given that she hasn't appeared on stage at the yet this season. I actually think she has been dancing in the corps. I think I saw her IG as a swan, in particular. But maybe I'm mixing her up with someone else? My money's on Kuznetsova, though. I'd keep an eye on her.
Thanks for all the interesting questions, speculations, and tidbits.

The Devils I Know - Number 13
Welcome to “The Devils I Know!” For this spooky time of year, from now till Halloween, I’ll be counting down My Top 31 Depictions of the Devil, from movies, television, video games, and more! Today I present to you all…Two Devils for the Price of One! Number 13 is a tie between Peter Cook from Bedazzled (1967) AND Elizabeth Hurley, from Bedazzled (2000).
Tumblr media
The 1967 film “Bedazzled” is widely regarded as a British cult classic. It’s 2000 American remake is much the same. Both tell the same basic story, but they do so in very different ways…and with two very different Devils. Both films focus on the adventures of a socially inept, dead-end-job working man, who longs for love and success. The Devil appears before the man, and offers him a bargain: in exchange for his mortal soul, the Devil will grant the man seven wishes (“one for each sin”). The man tries to use this bargain to better his life and snag the girl of his dreams, but each time there’s a loophole that causes his new life to become an utter nightmare. In the end, the man comes to realize that simply wishing for good things won’t make them happen: sometimes, it’s best to work with what you have in life, and find courage in your own self.
The 1967 version stars Dudley Moore as the poor guy who gets conned by the Devil, named Stanley Moon. Meanwhile, Peter Cook – Moore’s frequent onscreen co-star – plays the role of the Devil, who goes by the alias “George Spiggott.” This film you can essentially call a Monty Python Faust, as the sense of humor has that strange, bizarre sensibility many English comedies of the time have and had (including MP). However, there’s also a lot of interesting points raised in it about faith and virtue. Cook’s Devil is a scoundrel, but a very loveable one; he never really comes across as a total dastard, but more just a sort of roguish troublemaker. The way he describes himself and his conflict with God matches this: according to Spiggott, he simply got bored of God getting all the kudos and praise, and felt perhaps it was time to change a few things. God – being God – disagreed and cast him out. Spiggott is classy and yet crooked, with a slightly childish, immature side to his personality; he actually reminds me a little bit of a later Devil, Tom Ellis’ Lucifer, in terms of his mannerisms and overall sense of style. This is essentially Willy Wonka as the Devil: eccentric, unusual, at times seemingly dangerous, but you can never really feel frightened of him.
Tumblr media
The 2000 remake is another story. That one makes a few twists to the formula. This time, Brendan Fraser (FIREFLY WAS ROBBED, JUST THROWING THAT OUT THERE) plays the poor Joe: this time a man by the name of Elliot Richards. The Devil is this film is given no name of her own…she’s just the Devil. And yes, “her” and “she.” We’ve had a couple of female Devils on this list so far, mind you, but the idea of Satan as a woman is actually fairly rare. And, in my opinion, this is probably my favorite example of a female Devil in all of cinema. Portrayed by Elizabeth Hurley, she has the same with and class that Cook’s Devil had, with a similar sense of unusual humor, but now there are two big differences: one, she’s a smokin’ hot babe (and I use that phrase only because you KNOW the screenwriters and casting people had to use it, too), and two, she’s a little more threatening than Cook’s Devil. With Cook’s Devil, when Stanley realizes he may be damned to Hell, it’s hard to really feel just how dangerous the situation is. But with Elliot and Hurley’s Devil, the way things play out and the way Hurley plays things off both really do give you the feeling that this is a Devil who means business, and can do a lot of damage if she so chooses.
Both of these performers and films do one thing very well: they make the Devil just as sympathetic and interesting as the character they offer “help” to. Spiggott’s sense of humor, desire to just go back to Heaven, and even explanation of his reasons for what he does and why, all make him endearing to the audience. As for Hurley’s Devil, the humor is still present, but we also get the feeling she’s not really out to hurt Elliot. Indeed, by the end of the film, the two have become friends, and she actually seems to be on better terms with God: the two are played less as opposing forces, and more as just two sides of the same coin. Between these two films and portrayals, it’s difficult to say which I like more. If you tied me to a chair and forced me to pick, I’d say that the 1967 version of “Bedazzled” is the better movie. It’s funnier, for one thing, and while Hurley and Fraser have a good back-and-forth, NOTHING can compare to the chemistry between Dudley Moore and Peter Cook when it comes to something like this. HOWEVER, HAVING SAID THAT, if I had to choose which of these specific Devils I’d say I like more, I’d probably give the trophy to Elizabeth Hurley. She’s just a lot more unique and has more going on in terms of layers and complexity. Both films and both depictions of the Devil are great though; if you have not seen either of these pictures, check them out as soon as you can.
Tomorrow, the countdown continues with Number 12! HINT: An Operatic Villain…Literally.

Let's begin
Why world building, why My Little Pony, and why do I care? (And why you should too!)
While I will argue that My Little Pony’s fourth iteration, Friendship is Magic, is a fantastic cartoon that’s enjoyable by people of all ages, I first started watching it when I fit within its target demographic. It’s a cheerful show about a group of friends who get up to various adventures in their quiet town. It’s easy to watch passively, it’s fun to really pay attention to, and I faithfully did that for the nine years of its runtime. The characters are fascinating to me, and so is Equestria.
Unlike many fictional universes, Equestria is built fundamentally different to Earth, ponies are fundamentally different to humans. Where humans have hands, ponies don’t. The stories and slice-of-life that the ponies get up to is charming enough on its own but there’s so many novel changes and concepts that I just find fascinating to stumble across and fun to watch the ponies overcome. That novelty can be hard to find anywhere else. While I watched the show for its characters and relatable struggles and life lessons, it was the fanfiction that kept me excited through the gaps in episode releases.
If Equestria were a box of toys, fan fiction is the stories people come up with playing with their action figures. I was and still am one of those people. Reading other’s expressions of what they love is where I got my own love of reading, wanting to try out my own ideas in the same way is how I discovered that I enjoy writing just as much. I started my career in writing by “role playing” out stories with other fans of Friendship is Magic. It was far from proper narrative writing, but the ideas that we could explore and the obstacles and quirks that come with quadrupedal characters have given me a vivid imagination geared toward details and immersion. It’s still fun to analyse what made this show and its universe so important to me, so I made this blog.
Analysing exactly how Lauren Faust’s creation has come to be so loved and utilised, down to the smallest details, is my own lesson in how to immerse a reader in original works and avoid conflicting setting elements I'd like to share with everyone. Why do ponies have steam trains and airships alongside arcade machines and DJ tables? Why do they have printing presses and modern dams, but not a single ball-point pen?

Been getting back into Little Shop of Horrors lately. Although- I just saw the 1960 original movie and I’ve gotta say...
I kind of feel like the play did Audrey dirty. I mean- I can understand trying to make her more of a prominent character and why certain parts of the movie were switched around for the stage play (Seymour’s mom was a weird character. She was a little funny in her own right, but really felt out of place). Audrey did lack a bit of character and personality aside from being a sweet girl, but she at least had a bit of standards.
In the movie, she was weirded out by Seymour’s mom’s weird food items and didn’t like when “Seymour” started acting strange and demanding all of a sudden. Poor Audrey in the stage play gets abused by the sadistic dentist who had a rather minor role in the movie, but seriously got dialed up in the musical. And when confronted with the idea that she was dying- she was seriously way too willing to be sacrificed to the thing that tried to kill her and many others while in the movie, she well... lives.
I can understand wanting to give her more of a personality and more of a role to relate and sympathize with so that Seymour gets the girl in the end (which happens in only the 1988 movie version for sequel purposes and because the 1988 test audience didn’t like the dark ending clashing with the film’s rather cartoony silly vibe). But still- Audrey feels robbed of being at least having slightly more standards.
And there was one scene where she was seemingly on a date with Mushnik (which felt out of place too so I can kind of see why that was switched out) while the dentist and her are never seen together. I can get trying to make skid row seem like a much more awful place than the movie made it and giving the dentist a bigger role to where is death almost seems to be rooted for, but making him Audrey’s abusive boyfriend instead of being someone like Mushnik who almost left without paying the check... well it makes sense for theater since its dramatic and again makes Seymour feel like he’s the hero, but then it also makes Audrey suffer in more ways than one.
I’m not saying she needed to be like a hero with no man’s help or entirely a lousy character for being a woeful girl that just dreams of a better life outside of her awful town and abusive relationship. I’m just saying compared to the source material, she feels a bit reduced from what she was before. And in turn, in the musical it makes Seymour almost feel like a “nice guy” who is clearly the better option Audrey wants- duh! Seymour's given lines like “I don’t like that guy, Mr. Mushnik. Especially how he treats Audrey. She deserves a prince” and “Wipe off your make up, let me see your clean face”. And then in turn Audrey basically says, “Oh sure, I’ll die in a plant for you if it means you’ll continue living good. Even if you did kill my ex boyfriend and our ex-boss.” 1960 Audrey at least was kind of willing to ask, “Why are you acting this way, Seymour? I don’t get what’s come over you. At least sort it out before you go out with me again.”
Now granted- the 1960 film, the musical, and the 1988 adaptation are all extremely good with a couple questionable things here and there for good reason and a lot of funny jokes. Each has their own unique way of telling their story and they tell it well. The musical was aiming to tell a Faust like story in a time when female love interests usually were displayed in a certain way so that the main male love interest can kind of be seen as the better option. And obviously on the stage, it needs to be dramatic. 1960 Audrey wasn’t a feminist icon or anything and there wasn’t a lot to her. The only thing we really knew she wanted was Seymour because he was sweet and Seymour did things like name a plant after her. I’m not even sure why Mushnik and Audrey went out on a fancy dinner together- neither really expressed interest in one another aside from maybe extending Mushnik’s flower business. But Audrey seemed less... ditzy in the 1960′s version which isn’t always common for 1960′s movies and Seymour wasn’t really given motives to kill (which did make kind of silly things happen that were understandably turned around- like Seymour getting hypnotized by Audrey Jr. and pursued by a seriously persistent hooker).
Well- long essay short, I can see why certain parts of the 1960 version was changed around for the play, but that in turn may’ve made Audrey’s character feel robbed of what standards she had. But the play version also shows a girl so broke down by the abuse she went through that she thinks in her perhaps dying moments, sacrificing herself to her new love interest means she’s giving him and herself serenity. Just a part of me wishes that there was at least able to be a blend between the original Audrey and the musical Audrey so she’d at least seem slightly less passive.
I’m also not saying that Seymour was a hero by any means either. The decision to make Audrey II play on his desires makes for a slightly more interesting take than a hungry plant that eats bodies Seymour accidentally killed. Audrey was one of his greatest desires and him feeling like he was somehow just in his attempt to kill Orin (rather than somehow accidently stab him in a silly duel- the 1960 movie relied heavily on comedy more than deep motives like the musical). But in making Audrey more damsel-in-distress kind of, we also end up getting a more pick me/ nice guy Seymour rather than the 1960 sorta clueless Seymour that just really likes Audrey and that Audrey supported. Of course, Seymour needs sympathy as well and at least some form of seemingly noble intentions when being the protagonist that wants the girl, but having Audrey being too willing to die for him when movie Audrey is willing to walk out on him (granted a little unfairly because it was Audrey Jr. who kept being “weird”) and asking he’d get his act together while asking why he won’t explain himself at least gave her at least some form of grit in the situation.
Perhaps it only makes sense in context of the movie rather than the play, but I stand my ground... Audrey I deserved better.

All 20 questions for Claire, please?
I finally got to answering it all. Maybe its time for me to stop doing this.
1. What inspired you to create your oc?
The very first reason was Nacht’s past, more specifically Morgen’s existence. The moment I read the chapters of Morgen’s death I thought of ‘what if he had a relationship with someone and Nacht would eventually have to confront that person?’. Morgen was shown to be well-known because he was the image of an ideal Magic Knight and helped many. Which made me think how he wouldn’t have someone interested in him. Second, my personal interest in making OC in a magic fantasy setting. I happen to like playing around with canon lore and seeing what kind of OC I’ll make and how they would eventually interact with the established universe.
2. Why does your oc look the way they do? What are your reasons for their appearance?
Claire’s color scheme is meant to balance out the black & white themes of the Faust twins. I wanted her to have an attractive appearance to contrast with her dislikable personality. I had the words, ‘my OC is gonna be a pretty little bitch’ and played around with the idea then BAM! Claire.
3. What is the origin of the character's name?
When I decided how Claire has the character themes of light and stars I looked up related names that could somehow relate to her theme. I initially planned to give her the name ‘Lucina’ but I realized how there were already quite a lot of names that mean light like Lumiere, Licht, the Luci devils (Lucifero and Lucifugus), and eventually Lucius. There were too many light people that had gone to the light and way too many ‘Lucys’ and now I’m glad I chose the name ‘Claire’ instead. And I happen to prefer short and easy to say names so it's easier for me. I decided on Claire which is the French adjective meaning “clear,” “light,” or “bright.” When added to her surname Polaris her name loosely translates to ‘Clear/Bright Northstar’
4. Why did you give them the name they have? What is the in-universe reason for their name?
I just wanted a short and easy to remember name. In-universe reason is how it kinda mixes with the European setting of Black Clover.
5. What kind of abilities and power level does your oc have? Why did you give them their powers? What's the in-universe reason?
Her magic attribute is ‘Light’ which makes her quite versatile with how she fights. It is a given that light magic is fast and can be quite strong and destructive. But somehow she lacks in the attack spells department similarly to Lolopechka’s. The mana level she has is that of an average noble and I’ll rate it 4/5 in the magic amount scale. Her spells are mostly for healing, support, and travel. And she gets more creative once she gets exposed to various situations. She also has a second magic subtype which connects to how I plan to make a whole OC clan in Black Clover but that’s a story for another day.
I initially wanted to make her attribute ‘Firefly’ but to make things simple I settled on ‘Light’ instead. Her best skills are in magic control, healing, and creation type magic, which is how she summons multiple fireflies at once. The fireflies can perform various tasks and follow certain commands. Claire experiments and explores her magic a lot.
6. What are the weaknesses in their power? Why did you give them their weaknesses? What's the in-universe reason?
She lacks offensive spells. If she would attempt to learn one it would lack a punch. For someone with the revered and rare light attribute I needed her to think of ways how to defeat an opponent that is not through brute force. I wanted to give her the skillset of a healer/support mage to match her personality. While Claire can be rough to others on the outside, deep inside she values life.
7. Does your oc have any notable skills or good personality traits? Why did you give them those traits? Why do they exist in-universe?
She can be quite dedicated and tenacious with the smarts and wits to back her up. I wanted her to be strong intellectually which will show that raw strength and power alone won’t be enough to face the challenges and missions she’ll eventually go through. I wanted her to be able to see through the possibilities and potential of magic with creative ideas. For the in-universe reason, it’s to play around with the magic lore of BC.
8. Does your oc have any notable flaws or activities they're not good at? Why did you give them those flaws? Why do they exist in-universe?
She is highly guarded and distrustful towards people wanting to get close to her. With the word going around that she is a noble bastard, she thinks how someone would eventually want to take advantage of her strength and noble blood in her. And how people see her differently than what she actually is. Plus growing up with only her mother, Claire tends to be way too attached and protective to someone she deeply cares about. As she holds onto emotions deeply, she tends to carry some baggage. Which perhaps is her fatal flaw, when she loves, she loves too deeply and when she hates, she hates blindly.  My only in-universe reason is to shape her personality and to create an interesting story.
Activities Claire isn’t good at are detailed crafts and whatever requires patience like fishing and embroidery.
9. In a group dynamic, what kind of role does the oc usually fill? Are they a worry wart? A troublemaker? The straight man?
Depending on who’s present in the group. But Claire plays between the troublemaker to straight man. She sometimes creates trouble for their magic knight group which creates problems for Julius, she isn’t behind doing sneaky stuff to get what she wants. Morgen, Yami, and Nacht may have stopped her from committing murder multiple times. Claire plays straight man whenever Yami does something stupid and ends up saving his ass.
10. What is your favorite trait regarding your oc?
Her determination. Similar to Asta’s ‘never give up’ and Yami’s ‘surpass your limits’, Claire never stops chasing towards her objective. She’ll defy all odds to make things possible and it shows by her learning to become a better healer and mastering her magic overall. She’s smart and a problem solver. She’ll bust her way through in a way only Claire could.
11. What is your least favorite trait regarding your oc?
Her guarded heart. It makes her hard to write (not necessarily in a bad way). Because of this I have to make an effort to show how she befriends and forms relationships towards other characters because she just won’t make it easy. And her refusal to open up and be vulnerable towards others means she tends to hold onto her emotions and won’t show her true feelings to others. Someone has to put in the effort of understanding her and how she tries to be strong to protect herself and tell her that it’s alright to put her trust into someone. Last one…. She tends to hide and run away from problems.
12. Which canon characters (if any) do the oc have good relationships with? Why those characters?
Yami, as a squadmate and a friend she can trust and rely on. They both relate to being viewed as outcast to society Yami as a foreigner, Claire as a noble bastard. They tend to argue because Yami prefers charging head on while Claire observes and formulates plans first.
Julius, as Claire’s mentor and father figure. As Claire didn’t have a father growing up, she tends to act on what makes him happy. She looks up to him while Julius sees the potential she has as a mage.
Owen, the one who’ll mentor Claire in healing magic and medical knowledge. He knows her disdain towards nobility but he eventually made it to Claire's good side and earned her respect.
Fuegoleon and Mereoleona, these two don’t give a crap about status and they both see Claire based on her abilities as a mage. Perhaps the only royals Claire would ever hold in high respect.
13. Which canon characters (if any) do the oc have bad relationships with? Why those characters?
Nozel, (lol. Sorry) in her days as a Grey Deer these two just aren't going to mix well.
Jack, in an incident involving Yami. Let me just say how she got caught in their duel and it didn’t end well.
14. Did you give your oc a love interest? Is it another oc or a canon character? Why?
The Faust twins as eventual love interests. Morgen was the first person her age to see past her harsh personality. He saw through her walls that hides a person who is actually kind and compassionate which he thinks as to how her inherent personality reflects her magic spell that is mostly made to heal and save others. Claire looked up at Morgen’s dedication to become a good magic knight and wished that more people could be like him. For Nacht, Claire does not see him as a romantic interest until up to the time when the two end up in Spade. At the beginning Claire is cautious of Nacht because of his delinquency and magic. She is determined and claims to not hesitate how she would arrest him if she caught him doing illegal stuff. A few things happen between them here and there. But after Morgen died is when things get complicated but somehow their shared memory of Morgen is what will bring them together.
It would be Morgen at first, then eventually Nacht. Why? I just like the drama I can make out of them.
(In a special scenario she is paired with Yami because the dynamic is there)
15. How does your oc interact with the canon narrative? What about it do they change?
Claire dominantly plays a role in past canon then jumps to the present story of the Spade arc. She doesn’t change much of the story as she participates in the past timeline. Depending on how the manga continues is when I’ll decide how much she’ll change the story.
16. What aspect(s) of the universe's lore are they connected to? Do they change/add lore to the universe?
A lot of things about magic(its concepts and lore) and spells, light/life, and magic tools/relics/magic artifacts. Claire is a scholar of many things magic. Her research and experiments would eventually lead to various applications of magic.
Claire adds lore to the universe by being part of an OC clan of people that is currently in hiding and practices their own kind of magic. How much is added depends on the lore Tabs will eventually introduce. By then, I still have the lore currently under development.
17. List/describe up to five tropes that apply to your oc. They could be related to the oc's characterization or their narrative arc.
Badass Bookworm - who says nerds can’t bring you harm? Claire would find ways to destroy someone even without the use of offensive magic spells.
Tsundere - She tries to hide her feelings and can be both really good at it or an absolute failure at it. Spare this girl who treads between wanting love and denying it.
Parent in Distress/Extremely Protective Child - Claire to Lucina. Lucina with her mystery illness and Claire stepping up to become the adult instead.
Parental Abandonment/Tell Me About My Father! - Claire about her father. Pretty much self explanatory. Claire’s quest leading to knowing about her father’s identity connects to her feelings towards nobility.
Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life - her character arc surrounding Morgen and the Grey Deers. Her knowledge and skills in magic eventually made her talents as a magic knight be recognized. Something she would never realize if she stayed as a peasant.
18. Imagine meeting your oc. What would you want to say to them or do with them?
Meeting my oc for the first time would be difficult. I would have to first be able to hold a decent conversation given she would be distant and avoidant to a stranger. I’ll try to crack her up with my own Whack humor to try to ease the tension between us. Maybe it would work or maybe Claire would think I’m an idiot. One thing I would want to do with Claire would be to experience her magic like getting to ride her firefly mount and zoom past the skies. I could get some healing magic while we’re at it.
Getting into a discussion where Claire learns new things from me would be the key to catch her attention. Claire knows a lot about magic theory, while I’m more into science-y stuff so we get to have an exchange from nerdy facts.
19. How might your oc react to finding out you are the one responsible for their life?
Claire might hold me by the neck and tell if a god must give her fate so cruel and tragic. Then I die-
Okay I’m kidding. I’ll admit to being responsible for writing out her life the way it is. That she is born from my imagination and she is a character in a story. But many things can start out unpredictable then end in something that brings meaning to the life she’s been through. While I’ll tell her that her life has pain and suffering, so do many lives in my reality. But eventually her life will turn out well, that I’ll give her. I’m not fond of sad endings after all.
Maybe Claire would catch on and say if her character and story is a reflection of my own somehow. That if her identity as a fictional character has a part of me as her creator. Who knows.
20. Share a random piece of trivia about the creation of your oc. Examples: scrapped ideas or changes you didn't expect to make.
I have a one-shot version of Morgen and Claire’s story. In there Claire has less drama and isn’t a noble bastard but instead is raised by a single mother. Claire meets Morgen by chance and she reveals how she does volunteer work for a local church. She happened to be at the place where knights were supposed to catch a thief but she ended up finishing the job for them. Morgen thought about how she can easily become a magic knight with her skill in magic but Claire just can’t be bothered to join. Morgen eventually falls in love with Claire and courts her but unfortunately he encounters an untimely death. When Claire tries to seek Morgen she would found out about his death from Nacht. And that's it.
Scrapped idea is whether or not I’ll make Claire’s father significant in her story and I chose between revealing if he’s dead or not. I went with how his father is actually alive.

ramblings about self ship fic idea between me n faust guilty gear [part one, pre story stuff + doodles ]
so . my plan is , i am a mortician at the hospital where baldhead (and i think i might go w the name jian ? for him prior to the serial killer stuff. ive seen it used a few times and its cute. and dr baldhead sounds more like a name given to a serial killer. like how jack the ripper ? yea) works, and im. a little salty bc jian is Such A Good Doctor that i never get anyone to process except people who died like days or weeks ago or the elderly.  but jian is so sweet and polite, great with patients and especially kids (he does little magic tricks to cheer them up or distract them, reads to them in his spare time)), but is a little timid w large group of people. and good lord is he a workaholic.  so i , as a coworker, ensure he doesnt overdo it. which he does. sometimes he has to get dragged out of the office, and i (not having as much to work to do as others) take him out to dinner! bc this mf cannot cook. he subsists off of leftovers and ready to eat meal type stuff.  at some point prior to story, jian does my back surgery. as someone scared of going under the knife, but who has had really bad backpain for a long time, its like. very trusting. when recovery at hospital is done adn i can go home, he helps out around the place, justifying it by goin like “well you help me out with stuff so naturally i should help you! its only fair” and he fucking sucks at cooking and orders takeout a lot and helps clean up and . if he spends the night thats not anyone elses business
[at this point we both consider eachother friends, but jian harbors a minor crush bc most people only talk to him for his abilities, and here i am, asking how his knitting is going or telling him funny stories about bodies ive embalmed]
and then we get to The Girl. if u are reading this and dont know, the reason that jian snaps in the first place is because a patient of his, a little girl, dies on his operating table. [later its discovered that he was sabotaged. but he assumed it was his fault]
and this doesnt go well.
jian has never had any mistakes as a doctor in all the time hes been one. hes cured so many people.
when that girl’s heart moniter flatlines, he just. nothing makes sense anymore. hes never failed once. how could this have happened? how could he have done this? because it was his fault, no one elses, and if people keep saying it isnt his fault, he might throw up. he does but not because of that specifically.
hes not seen for a week after, and then another. word spreads fast, and a coworker asks me to go check on him. [they assume we’re dating already, and after evrything goes down-- well theres a lot of pitying looks and im sorrys]
i find him but. well , this is where we start the story.
because theres jian there, a seven foot long scalpel in hand. and surrounded by at least five- six- seven bodies around, the specific number hard to tell because theyre so mangled (every cut is precise. he never makes mistakes), and hes laughing-wheezing-panting, glasses glinting under the street lamps.
when he looks over to me, and i see the unfocused, almost drunk look in his eyes--

another dante headcanon i posted a thread for on twitter and so i'm copy pasting here because it needs to be here
workaholic dante makes me feel a type of way so i must yell
i also really enjoy the workaholic dante a lot and it's something i'm genuinely surprised isn't adopted by the fandom because it's something i've picked up immediately if the very concept of dantes notes is not proof enough to show just how devoted to their job they are.
dante literally has nothing more to their name than this position, and i've had a lot of experience being witness to i guess people still making the assumption that dante is new or inexperienced with the sinners when i feel like… coming off of canto three, they'd start immediately reflecting massively. if they make a mistake its because it's genuinely something out of their control, unfamiliar to them, and something they have no prior knowledge of.
i also think dante would not take lightly to fucking up because more than anything don quixote situation was a massive wake up call. the ending of the dungeon was like being splashed in the face with ice cold water. they do not want to disappoint their sinners, they do not want to disappoint vergilius even more so. the whole nest situation further amplifies this. the whole conversation with sinclair was them owning up to the fact that they as a manager have not BEEN enough and genuinely that following this they would be on things 24/7.
i think its why they dont sleep. its why i have so many headcanons around the fact that thanks to the clockhead they can stay up longer than any other average person should be able too but dante still pushes it until mentally theyre bricked or they physically cannot stand to not sleep. the bus is constantly on the move. the downtime they have between working and not working is so limited that they FEEL the need to make use of what free time they have to further better themselves, their knowledge of everything but most notably combat and the best way to make use of sinners ids. of egos. understanding how they fight, how they function. understanding that if they corrode what happens or how to deal if one were to die. they feel they need to be prepared for every given situation because they think of it as that DIRE.
AND I want to talk about the additional of: why dante never asks questions outright to sinners. they do not want to look incapable or like they have no idea what theyre doing in the eyes of said people. i think with verg or faust, there's more leeway. i think if it's a conversation thats naturally just talking about these things and they chime in it doesn't count. but approaching people directly? asking them specifically questions? they can't, they don't want too, because in their mind there's that paranoia of "will they be disappointed again if i didn't know this much?" "will they feel like they cant rely on me?" so they dont. it's why they listen and pay attention as much as they can to pick up on the most semblance of ANY detail to write it down. its why they make silly little *idk what this means, i'll add more info when i find out!!!!!

mirror
An old mirror dirty enough to the point you can’t see your reflection anymore. Faust decided to take a better look at it. He never expected it to turn out as a lost relic from a once prosperous city.
Tumblr media
“Oh dear me!” Snow gasped, putting his hand over his mouth to appear more shocked than he actually is. A thoughtful smile suddenly took over his expression not long after as he put his hands on his hips. “I would’ve never thought I’d see this again in this day and age.”
“You know what this is?” Faust’s eyes widened as he examined the mirror in his hands once more, its golden rim giving off a shiny gleam after recovering it from the ruins during their last expedition to the Eastern country. It managed to pique the hermit’s interest after seeing it lay bare on the ground in such a terrible state, wanting to recover it to its former beauty. In some way, it reminded him of himself.
“But of course! This was awfully revered back in the day by both humans and wizards alike. It’s a good thing that my weary self was able to remember it.” Snow chirped, taking a closer look at the mirror. “A relic from a once-famous city—a mirror that is said to have the ability to show you the future. After their downfall, no one had any idea about where the relic laid rest. Ohoho! You’ve come across an exquisite item indeed.”
“The ability to show me the future? That’s ridiculous. I just picked it up from the ground, there’s no way a mirror like this is a lost relic.” Despite the sureness from his words, his voice held a certain kind of doubt that believed Snow. There was no reason for someone like Snow to lie to him after all, there was simply no merit in doing so and Snow wasn’t one to lie about this sort of stuff just for his own amusement.
“You think I jest? I see, then why don’t you try it out for yourself?” Snow’s expression held a smug smile before he remembered something and he let out a small gasp. “I heard it was very moody and picky though, so it might not work on your first try.”
“A moody mirror? The more I hear about this mirror the more I think that it’s a joke.” Faust shook his head.
“Ohoho! Try saying ‘please and thank you’ to the mirror when you try.” What Snow said sounded like a tease but Faust knew well that he was being serious. He didn’t know which one was worse—he could only let out a sigh as he inspected the mirror again. Could a mirror truly tell him of the future? Such an item is far too dangerous to be left out in the open.
Tumblr media
“Woah, so you’re telling me this mirror can show you the future?” You wandered inside Faust’s room back and forth but your eyes remained fixated on the mirror placed on his desk, its intricate golden design never failed to catch your interest. It was hard to believe such a thing was capable of showing you the future when all sorts of magic relating to that were either forbidden or extremely hard unless you were gifted with the gift of prophecy like the twins from the North.
Faust let out a sigh, he couldn't bring himself to believe it either but there were a lot of strange things in this world—this was just one of them. "Apparently," he pushed up his glasses as he took the mirror in his hands and looked at his reflection. "Do you want to give it a try?"
"Me?" You asked curiously, wondering why Faust would ask you such a thing but you weren't against the idea of the mirror showing you your possible future. Though you can't help but feel a little bit scared when you thought about the possibilities—there was nothing more terrifying than the unknown future, after all. Faust handed you the mirror and you stared at it blankly. With much hesitance, you nodded.
"I'll try… how does this even work in the first place?" You tried tapping the glass, wondering if it was some sort of touch screen mirror but you were met with disappointment when it did nothing.
"Snow said to try saying 'please and thank you' to the mirror, I don't know if that'll work though. He said it was moody." Faust let out a dry chuckle, the thought still ridiculous to him but never crossed it out as impossible. If the mirror would truly respond to something like that, it only proved the strangeness of this magical world. You shot him a strange look, a moody mirror? But you pushed back the doubt to the back of your head and put your trust in him instead.
"Mirror, can you show me the future? Pretty please?" You cooed, feeling a bit stupid for pleading to a mirror like this. You waited a few moments for a reaction while looking at the object expectantly, only to be met with utter disappointment when it did absolutely nothing. Faust was silent along with you until he let out a small laugh, did you look stupid when you were doing that? You questioned if Snow was just pulling both of your legs, that mischievous old man!
"As expected, it won't work just because we asked it to."
"Geez, Faust! Do you really think a shabby thing like this can show us the future?" Shabby was the last word you would use to describe the mirror had it not been for your rage towards its defect. It looked elegant and regal, as if it didn't spend centuries lying beneath some rubble—it was a miracle the glass wasn't broken by such heavy fragments lying atop of it. You shook your head and gave Faust the mirror, giving up on it after you added: "How about you try it? It might listen to you because you're the one that picked it up."
He shot you a hesitant look, he had a feeling this wasn't going to end well yet he pushed that feeling into the back of his mind and stared at his reflection—he caught a small glimpse of your face in it while you were looking away and he couldn't help but break into a small smile. At that moment, something changed.
The hand mirror shook slightly in his grasp. Faust, alarmed, tried to make it sit still by gripping it tighter but it proved to be futile when it flew from his grasp and a blinding light filled the room—eliciting gasps of shock from the both of you as Faust grabbed to shield you from whatever was emerging in his room. When the light disappeared, it took him a while to get adjusted to the sudden change but once he did, he saw the hand mirror transformed into a full-body one sitting in the middle of his room.
"What in the world…" Faust left your side to carefully inspect the area, making sure there were no more risks in the area before taking your hand while telling you it was safe—aside from the now huge mirror residing smack middle in his room, its golden glow giving off an intimidating aura. You felt your initial shock turn into excitement.
"Isn't this great? It responded to you! What did you say?" You asked him, curious. You weren't paying attention to him at that time, perhaps you missed something.
"Nothing, actually. It just started vibrating and this happened." Faust tipped his hat slightly, closing his eyes and let out another sigh. One strange thing after another, he was bound to be drained at the end of the day, wasn't he?
"That's strange, you didn't say anything and yet it responded to you… curious." You stroked your chin. Faust stepped into the mirror's view and nothing was out of the ordinary, it showed him nothing of the future, only his reflection. He paused, was it broken after being left there for so many centuries? It was a plausible explanation. It was just like a normal mirror now, it was a shame such a relic has lost its true value—eroded along with the years that passed.
That is, until you stepped into the view.
The moment you stepped into the view, everything that the mirror showed suddenly changed as it emitted a faint white glow. You closed your eyes for a second and you could hear the faint sounds of… bells? You opened your eyes slightly to look at the mirror only for Faust to slap his hand over your eyes to obstruct your vision before you could get a small glimpse of what changed.
A bunch of incomprehensible sounds fell from Faust's lips and you tried to remove his hand from your eyes but that just made his actions more frantic. He grabbed your wrist and dragged you away from the mirror to outside of his room. You tried asking him what his problem was but you were left unheard as he left you outside and shut the door to his room aggressively. By the time you tried making sense of the scenario, you were already staring at his door from outside—did he just kick you out?
Your mouth was wide open when the realization dawned on you—what was his problem!? You crossed your arms grumpily, a part of you wanted to knock on his door again to demand an explanation but another part wanted you to storm off without saying anything to him. You pouted, or was he trying to protect you from something dangerous? Magical items could be dangerous if not handled correctly, after all.
In the end, you didn't know what to do and rested your forehead against his door frame with a clenched fist ready to knock at any given time and a defeated look.
Tumblr media
To say Faust panicked back there was an understatement, he felt as if his soul was about to leave his body right then and there when he saw the scene the mirror showed him. He could only breathe a sigh of relief, he was glad he acted quickly before you caught a glimpse of it—that would've made things worse and he wouldn't know what to do. He slumped against the door, feeling a bit light-headed and fuzzy, the heat refusing to leave his face. He was embarrassed.
The sight wasn't something particularly scary or tragic. In fact, it was the complete opposite—though that made it all the more confusing as to why Faust would stop you from looking at it. It was a scene that he saw in one of his many dreams, something that flustered him to no end and wished it would leave him alone.
The bells that rang in the background, the happy couple dressed in white as they looked at each other lovingly, a perfect wedding scene straight from the dreams Faust doesn't tell anyone. A perfect wedding scene of you and him in the distant future—together.
To think your fate was intertwined like this… Faust could only hope that it's a future that's bound to happen. But, right now, he can't let you find out about this lest he wants to live the rest of his life inside the forest hiding from you. He would simply pass away from sheer embarrassment, oh how would he even face you? His cheeks burned red at the thought of a wedding with you once again.

MC getting the guys + Asra flowers 💐
A HC request from @sociallyacceptable that has been sitting in my inbox for over a month because I am like that :’B Muri’s is a bit different, but I got the idea and couldn’t just let it go, alright Also yes I did go overboard a bit by adding plot, what about it
FLUFF TIME. It’s just a tiny bit suggestive in a couple of places, but it’s all PG, I promise.
💙 Asra 💙
The Apprentice gets the bouquet on a whim.
They spot a flower stall at the market while shopping for spices and some ingredients for the shop; one of the arrangements, a mix of deep purple and pastel violet remind them of Asra and Faust at the same time.
On the way back, the MC adds a couple of enchantments to the flowers, to both make them last longer and leave a little personal touch: some of the blooms end up sparkling as if the live petals were made out of delicate amethyst crystals.
Asra is conjuring something in the kitchen when they return home; hearing the front door closing, he starts his regular playful banter without turning from the stove.
Faust sees the MC enter the kitchen first, popping her head up from Asra’s shoulder and blepping in greeting.
“Pretty!”
“Mmhm, they sure are Fa- oh.”
His surprise quickly gives place to delight, and moments later he’s pulling MC into a kiss.
They just can’t help but make him fall in love all over again every day, huh?
But if they say a cheesy line about the color of his eyes, he will tease them a bit for that, even if he is blushing at the same time and already tucking one of the sparkling flowers into their hair.
Everything else is forgotten for the rest of the day, he just wants to turn all of his attention to them, grateful to the universe for being able to hold them as much as they wish.
(He probably ended up burning whatever he was cooking, though)
The bouquet will stay in the bedroom, just for the three of them to see.
They have to go and get Faust her own flower basket the next day, because she wants to sleep in the flowers.
Asra puts his own spell on one of MC’s enchanted flowers, to complete its transformation into ice-like lavender crystal, preserved in time and kept as another memory that he would like to remember.
❤️ Julian ❤️
Unfortunately, Love Festival tends to be a very busy day at both the shop and the clinic.
While MC handles the expected influx of demand for pretty magical trinkets, Julian has to deal with the over-enthusiastic lovebirds who end up at the clinic after trying to “spice things up”; it is entertaining most of the time, but also means that the two have to be apart all day, to Julian’s great dismay.
He swears that he’ll try to make it home before dinner.
They both know that he likely won’t.
So around midday, MC closes the shop for a while and heads to the numerous festival stalls.
And in the first minutes of Julian’s lunch break, they dramatically show up in his office with a no less dramatic crimson bouquet, nearly making the poor doctor spill his (third cup of) coffee all over himself and the papers he’s been working on.
He’s having troubles processing it.
“H-hello, darling, did you- ah, I mean- are those... foooor me?”
He almost adds an “are you sure” in there before his brain catches up.
Once it does, he grins and hurries to get up from his desk and sweep the MC off their feet, sending them laughing.
He’s deeply touched and somewhat sheepish: for all his theatrics and love of cheesy romantic gestures, this man will never get used to being on the receiving end.
Oh how he loathes the fact that he doesn’t have the time to thank them properly right there and then; stealing their breath with a kiss will have to do for now.
The flowers are definitely enchanted - Julian can barely take care of cacti - and will stay in his office once MC fetches a vase from their shop next door; he may or may not tear up just a bit while looking at them at some point.
He does make it to dinner, by the way - other workers at the clinic practically kick their boss out because he’s overworking as it is - and takes the MC to a lovely evening in the city.
💚 Muriel 💚
It’s been a long project, with the hardest part being keeping Muriel in the dark about it; MC managed to talk Inanna into helping.
Finally, when everything’s ready, they “go for a walk” in the forest together, with MC leading them to their secret spot.
A small clearing in the forest has been transformed into a colorful island of flowers. Carnations and wild primroses from the depths of the palace garden; a few plants from the Heart’s clearing, their soft glow visible even during the day; and of course, forget-me-nots and MC’s own favorite flowers.
There’s enough space to walk freely between the flower patches, and few charms decorate the surrounding trees, keeping the plants flourishing and covering the area with a blanket of calm, peaceful aura.
Muriel freezes on the edge of the clearing, stunned, looking over the carefully selected plants and then turning to MC with a silent question in his eyes.
It’s been a year since the two of them confessed their love to each other, they explain. So they wanted to create something special, to remind of that moment.
There’s a blush on his cheeks as his expression softens into a smile.
“...you never stop surprising me. Thank you.”
He leans down for a kiss, softly at first, then picks them up to kiss them like he did a year ago.
Really, the only reason he doesn’t take it further is that Inanna is right there, somehow looking very pleased with herself before she trots into the clearing to lay down next to a wild lavender patch.
They stay there for the entire evening, enjoying each other’s company.
Muriel teaches MC how to make flower crowns, and doesn’t try to take his off this time; Inanna ends up with a flower necklace as well.
They head back home when the stars above match the shining flowers scattered throughout the clearing.
That place becomes one of their favorite spots for years to come, with them maintaining and modifying it together.
🤍 Lucio 🤍
Lucio “I should be showering YOU with gifts!” Morgasson isn’t as used to receiving gifts as one might expect.
Oh, there were many people trying to get in his good graces through expensive gifts back in his Count years, but those were basically expected grandiose bribes, really; never a simple genuine gesture of affection.
Lucio himself goes strongly overboard with gifts at any given opportunity, and that does sometimes include flowers - or at the very least petals on the bed, he’s that kind of guy.
MC figures that “revenge” is long overdue.
It takes a little while to turn that idea into reality, but finally, after completing a few rather intense contracts in a row, the two go back to Vesuvia for a week to catch up with others and take a break from adventuring, with Nadia letting them stay in MC’s guest bedroom.
After sleeping in, Lucio wakes up to an empty bed and the intense smell of vanilla and chocolate in the room.
There’s a plate of freshly baked cookies on the desk, clearly not the “typical palace type”; it’s a pleasant surprise, if slightly confusing - but he is alright with being slightly confused with a cookie in his mouth.
That’s when MC quietly opens the door, beams upon seeing that he’s up, and enters with a bouquet of white, yellow and orange flowers in their hands.
The absolutely dumbfounded mid-chew expression on his face is fascinating to watch, as his eyes dart from the flowers to MC and then to the walls: there are a few seconds of badly concealed panic as Lucio frantically tries to recall what date it is, did he forget something, are they expecting something in return and he’s not ready-
Then, that one slightly wavering grin, “Gooood morning. What’s the occasion, dove?”
“The occasion is that I love you.”
How dare.
Well, good thing that the bed is right here, because he really doesn’t know how else to deal with this situation.
The flowers stay on the desk for the rest of the week, and Lucio turns pink every time he spots them.
He soon figures out how to deal with the situation, though; little does MC know that they just started a gift war.

i saw your post about Charles and what his personality past and part in the story line so i was wondering if u could do the same for vlad? :)
Ah, well, I can at least let you know what I’ve seen so far? I haven’t delved too far into Vlad, and some of his general impressions can be confusing, so I’ll do my best to make it sensible and unbiased! Here you go lovely <33333
Fair warning, there will be mentions of a lot of JPN app content since Vlad and his boys aren’t around much in the ENG app yet.
My general sense of Vlad is basically discount vampire Sasuke Uchiha.
What I mean by this is to say–according to what I’ve read so far–his clan/family were murdered by vampire hunters in cold blood when he was just a young boy. Presumably as a result of that traumatic event, he harbors a sizable enmity towards humanity and kind of lashes out on them in weirdly specific moments of violence. Another aspect of his motivation is something that’s mentioned within Comte’s route; which is that Vlad went through the timespace door on his own one day and allegedly saw a devastated future, where nothing remains of life on earth more or less.
I guess the reason I find him to be so perplexing is that he speaks about his actions in terms of efficiency, while most of the things he does just feel like unhappy outbursts (v often a product of unresolved trauma symptoms, I’d wager.) I also say this because he appears to have no larger pattern to his fury beyond the original event of his loss. Most of the human beings he attacks aren’t much of a threat to him and hurting them really doesn’t bring him any dividends beyond revenge.
For instance, he insists his disdain for humanity and insistence on controlling them is for the sake of ensuring they do not destroy the future–the horrifying wasteland he witnessed when he traveled through the timespace door. However, I’m not really sure how his current movements really speak to that goal? I mean sure, maybe he’s relying on Faust to create an immortal human so that humans will be forced to care because it will be their future too, but he doesn’t allow Faust to draw his pureblood blood for experimenting. (One can most certainly argue this was more about a lack of trust, and perhaps for plenty reason: Faust is vindictive enough to try to turn the tables and exert control over Vlad, or act on his own whims with his findings.) But if that’s the solution he’s waiting on, turning the rivals of the men in the mansion doesn’t really bring him any closer to that vision either? I mean, what good does it do to bring back Gilles de Rais–a prominent French serial killer? How would unleashing him on the populace help humanity “realize the error of it’s short-sighted and wasteful ways” and move to a brighter future?
Can’t help it, I ask these questions as I read.
In Comte’s main story, Comte hammers home that Vlad is not somebody to be taken lightly. One day when MC goes out to buy flowers, Vlad poses as a human florist to sell them to her–which is how Comte finds out he’s in France, and that he’s made contact with MC. When prompted, Comte describes him in a very particular way; and I think people really overlook this when they talk about their relationship. He says that Vlad is frighteningly pure in terms of the way he thinks and acts. The way I understood his description (given what I’ve seen of Vlad) is that Comte really does mean it point blank: Vlad is very simple in terms of why and how he does things. The issue with this is that nuance and context are lost on Vlad as well–and that’s where the problems start to flood in. Vlad is angry at humanity for what they’ve done to him. Baseline? That’s fair, they killed his damn family. However, Vlad thinks that by extension he has the right to decimate the general public and attack people completely uninvolved in his hurt.
And that isn’t right either–it’s ignoring so many factors here. He’s ignoring how much vampires use and toy with humans as pawns, it’s ignoring the massive power imbalance between him and his victims (this really isn’t a case of self-defense most of the time, nobody but Comte/Leo is a sizable threat to him), and he’s ignoring whether or not a person even did anything to deserve his retributive violence. While murder is never okay, it is perhaps more understandable when we see Jeanne’s frenzied and violent belligerence in response to a man who murders a boy’s mother for the sake of his own amusement/convenience. Vlad literally sees almost every single one of the rivals he created begin to heal/improve and murders them in cold blood because they are no longer of any use to him. That’s uh……..that’s a little messed, not gonna lie to you chief.
While part of me understands the efficiency here–he doesn’t want to leave any traces of his involvement, he doesn’t want any loose ends–it’s also just kind of foolish and cruel ultimately. From my understanding of the narrative, all the people he turned had some visible sign that indicated their origin to Comte. So even if he claims it was for the sake of concealment, it was more likely about his personal convenience. Which…..also yikes.
[Comte clearly does not trust Vlad to be reasonable, and I think there’s plenty of good reason enumerated above, but I actually don’t sense quite so much hatred? I think he’s just given up on the idea of Vlad growing up, even if he doesn’t like giving up on people. And considering Vlad’s behavior, I think it’s overkill to say that Comte just abandons him because he doesn’t care lmao. Even when Comte expresses real anger at the end of his own route, it was more because Vlad was fine with endangering MC’s life just to get back at him. I think Comte’s unhappiness with Vlad has more to do with Vlad’s treatment of human life as meaningless and worthless. It’s fascinating but also kind of sad? Vlad’s traumatic experience results in behavior that is a direct exacerbation of Comte’s trauma, and as such--no matter their potentially fond history--they can’t stomach each other.]
In Comte’s route, Vlad also has Shakespeare abduct MC and take her to the cathedral. Later on in the castle, we see an immediate display of Vlad’s shocking powers: he has the ability to manipulate people’s desires/thoughts. I’m not exactly sure how this works, but he is able to give MC visions of the mansion and Comte coming on to her–which shocks her into realizing it’s all just a dream. It’s not reality; it’s all manufactured by Vlad.
After that...weird introductory note...Vlad gives MC the rundown on his life together with Comte, which as always is subject to a question of bias. My assumption is that he did not lie, only because he was trying to convince MC that he was “right.” Furthermore, he does not omit the most damning evidence of his erroneous judgement, which suggests a continued inability for him to see where he went wrong.
We get a series of three flashbacks. The first is them as young kids. I don’t know if Vlad had already experienced the horrors of his family being destroyed, but this particular flashback focuses on Comte. His parents, in an effort to teach him that vampires and humans have no ability to co-exist, send away all of his teachers/mentors/nannies/the servants--pretty much everyone and anyone he was closely bonded to. Think about it this way: we can see that Comte is very sociable and affectionate by nature. He was living in a house full of people, all of whom cared about him and looked after him in their own way. Now the house is entirely empty. Naturally Comte is very very upset, and Vlad appears to try to cheer him up with little success.
[When I look back on this scene I don’t think I initially registered the sheer dissonance of Vlad’s reaction, versus Comte’s catatonic misery. There was a very solemn feeling to that memory, and the correct choice in terms of extending comfort is to hold his hand believe it or not. There is a sense that he feels very alone. When young boy Vlad enters one can argue that it was the proper thing to do; he was trying to cheer up his playmate and friend. But at the same time, I think I need to double check. Because I’m beginning to wonder if I was wrong. What if Vlad was happy to see someone as alone as him, and that joy is accordingly dissonant for that reason? He can’t see what Comte needs or how he’s hurting because he’s so glad he isn’t alone anymore in a way.]
The second flashback is the war nurse scene that I have spoken at length about. The important thing to focus on here is Vlad’s surprise that Comte would opt out of turning her out of respect for her wishes. The way Vlad frames the situation is starkly different from Comte’s. Comte sees himself as an outsider, somebody who invaded her life as a result of the timespace door and therefore has no right to suddenly change the course of her fate. He had no idea if she even wanted to live (considering the horrors she’d have to cope with and remember) or leave that time period at all, for that matter (considering the only thing keeping her going was helping the wounded/victims). Comte really was listening to everything she had to say, and he was taking her concerns and motivations seriously.
Vlad simply says: if you want her, take her. It’s as simple as that for him. And in one way that’s not entirely wrong--assuming Comte would have every intention of looking after her and actually cares a lot about her. But what’s being ignored here is her agency and the fact that they really don’t know each other that well? Something like that could begin and be rocky, if it doesn’t end in complete disaster. Worse, I get the feeling Vlad is perfectly fine with the notion of turning her and if things don’t work out, just kill her or get rid of her. Again, the simplistic thinking comes into play here: it ultimately comes down to Vlad being self-centered. He’s thinking only in terms of satisfying his needs, he doesn’t seem to have any concept of a larger pair or group feeling. There’s an inability to bend/be flexible for the sake of maintaining a greater harmonious feeling.
[For the record, I don’t think this makes him irredeemable? Only that it makes it very hard to live with him or love him, probably. There’s an inability to live at a joint pace? It’s always answering to what he wants without room for anything else most of the time, which to me is not living and it’s not love ;;;;]
Following their escape back to their own time, Vlad explains how he wants to use the door to turn geniuses and control humanity. He eventually wants to create a surveillance state, which would mean everyone is forced to move with his explicit approval, more or less. (He almost reminds me of Louis XIV, can’t tell if that’s what they were going for.) I have my doubts that his abilities could extend that far, but human history shows us that we are plenty susceptible to fascist and totalitarian rhetoric. In a shocking display of anger, Comte draws the line at controlling humanity and forcing them into a regime in which, and this is Vlad’s description not mine, “we (purebloods) would be like kings.” There’s definitely a concept of evolutionary superiority at play here, which echoes what I mentioned earlier; vampires seem to have this awareness that they’re apex predators in a sense, and enjoy the power that comes with that. Unfortunately, that probably makes for a fairly toxic/uncomfortable larger species culture, which is exactly what Comte and Leo hate lmao.
Vlad does not seem to find any issue with this sort of outlook, and asks MC to decide which of them--Vlad or Comte--is right. Who is more realistic, who best understands the future? As expected the MC replies that it's Comte, and Vlad goes from beseeching to big mad at record speed. He's p much that gif of the teddy bear that smacks its head down on the tables and then has the angry eyebrows.
This is where Comte intervenes, firing a warning shot that grazes Vlad's cheek and demanding he let MC go. In response, Vlad shoves MC into the turbulent timespace door--p much guaranteeing MC's death. (Essentially timespace is a void of sorts, a human being could never survive in that environment for long. Vlad fully knew this, and yeeted her anyway.)
So uh, yeah. Disagreement? Death. Moving on? Death. Nuanced approach to reality? Death. Beginning to think he doesn't really have a lot of patience or open-mindedness or any other kind of problem-solving approach.
He raises flowers and gardens like a fiend, and he openly plucks any single flower with a blemished leaf. Even if a single petal is slightly damaged, it will be removed and destroyed. So one could argue his extremism reflects a kind of perfectionism as well. No room for errors or troublesome dissent. No ugliness of any kind. I mean in all of his interactions with Faust and Charles this is the overt undertone. Don't ask more of me than I'm willing to give. Behave like good children, mommy's busy. Is that insubordination? boss music begins
One thing I actually don't understand very well is his decision making in Dazai's route. Dazai finds out about what Vlad's doing in a nanosecond when he senses MC is in danger, and yet Vlad makes absolutely no move to eliminate Dazai? He just watches from the shadows. Even when Dazai grills Charles about his loyalty to Vlad, no retribution.
My best guess for this specific situation is that Vlad does derive some level of satisfaction thwarting the future of human beings/former humans. Dazai--being somebody with no great desire to live, no rivals to speak of as far as we can tell, and no larger aspirations--is a life that is easily extinguished. There's no satisfaction in it. When Vlad's clan was murdered and he saw the future decimated, it could be that he felt humans had invaded and eradicated every potentiality that was important to him. Where he might have lived happily with his family, that future was ripped from his grasp. Where he might enjoy his flowers and the creation of an immortal for the rest of conceivable time, that too was ripped from his grasp with a desolate future.
So much about who Vlad is is about control, so it's very possible his lashing out is an extension of that. Dazai does not awaken any of the disdain he feels, and he does not succeed in overthrowing Vlad's control over Charles, so Vlad simply lurks in silence.
And last but not least, I've seen the preview to Vlad's newest birthday event story. The contents are incredibly revealing, in that MC wishing him a happy birthday and offering him a gift has him saying that it was "the best birthday ever." Granted idk if that’s sweet or just...beyond sad, but here we are. It’s only compounding my curiosity about the wound on his chest--I really do wonder if he was attacked and locked away by vampire hunters or hostile human beings or something. I say that only because that line speaks to a lot of isolation, and given how little he seems to care about turning people/subjecting them to his whims it feels odd. Why the isolation or lack of people who care about him? Is it a perceived lack where his actions alienated all the people who wanted to be close to him, or is it a more involuntary lack?
When she says let’s celebrate again next year, he seems a pleasantly shocked by the notion, and remarks “Ah yes, it’s a promise c:”. The preview was also mega horny: “You make me feel so loved, I don’t think I can be gentle with you tonight. If you enjoy it so much, then I won’t stop. I want to see you completely lost for me. I’ll teach your body what it means to be loved by a pureblood.” Aaaaaand pretty sure the CG was alluding to him licking the good stuff from her basement, though not entirely sure given it was only the preview.
The brief POV they give us is also very revealing:
“You always keep your promises, and I think I underestimate all the time how much you saved me. You are good, only you are good in this world.”
“Will we continue to make promises to each other in the future? Well in that case--you will always, always be mine, my vampire.”
Tbh he’s...v sweet? In his own way? Honestly he feels like a crabapple that is just so sick of the world and wants softe wife to take comfort in. While granted that’s not really my thing, I know a fanbase appeal exists for these types--so if that’s your thing, have at it!
So now that we have reached the end of my ridiculously long analysis (when am I ever brief, I’m so sorry. If you made it all the way here you deserve a cookie at the very least, if not the right to chase me with a bat) perhaps it’s more clear why I said discount vampire Sasuke Uchiha? “My clan is gone, every other second I’m going to be in retraumatization insanity, when I’m not I’ll be seeking power/hobbies, planning the demise of people who wanted the best for me, building a team to my advantage and unquestioned control, and eventually settling for a lifelong love who sees the best in me despite my more difficult moments and perceived hollowing loneliness. Not the most ideal comparison, but I will say if Vlad was not already named the historical figure, would have pointed and yelled Uchiha.
That’s all from me folks, hopefully this was a fun way to get introduced to him? And again, hope I didn’t alienate--I fully respect what people do and don’t enjoy o7
