got into a discussion today (ty @sassygwaine u legend) about the idk, disturbing? annoying? frustrating? trend i’ve noticed where fic writers will portray post-season 1 Ed as this irredeemable violent lunatic, and ended up landing on a really interesting observation, which is that it is so easy for fans of the show to get caught up in how the characters in the show see themselves, that we lose track of what they are actually like outside of their own perspectives.

ed he sees himself as this horrible, irredeemable monster, and even though we as an audience know this is decidedly untrue, so many of us are writing these really strange portrayals of this violent caricature with no sense of perspective of the show’s commentary on violence and masculinity. and the same can be said about stede, about izzy. stede sees himself as an incompetent fop, and izzy sees himself as this put-upon, hyper-competent babysitter. and I’ve read a lot of fics that forget that Stede is an absolute deadass lunatic, and forget that the first time Izzy was put in charge he shit himself and threw up and then the second time he was put in charge he ended up literally seconds away from being killed by his crew.

i have read SO. MANY. FICS. that show Ed snapping and just going full monster... when literally the show TELLS US very clearly that the Kraken is a defense mechanism. Stede breaks Ed’s heart, then Izzy threatens Ed, and then the crew belittles Ed. Three strikes, and Ed’s out. Kraken comes in. I will admit that it took me a while to recognize that the Kraken was a defense and not the result of a psychotic break (even though I also fully acknowledge that Ed is not the picture of mental health lmao), but it’s there in the text of the show, and now that I see it, it’s hard to see how anyone can see anything else.

like, i’m as feral for season 2 as the next OFMD fan, and I admit I have read SO MANY post s1 fics to try and fill the goddamn void. and I haven’t kept track because i’m not out here keeping score or policing fanfiction trends or anything. but like... it’s a lot. i noticed. and i found it upsetting. and i still find it upsetting. and i think i just wanted to whine about it on tumblr dot com.

Saw your ask about fic "fix it" and fics " with passion" and yes I agree. I'm doing two currently. Rogue and Wrong Heaven aus are basically that...and the most change I made is "lets stop dogpille on Izu"

But your idea made me think smth. Tenko le hero...would have the choice of wanting to be smth else? Bc mha is a bit dystopian world...and I can see people forcing him to be one. "You are a Shimura!"

And how Izu and Tenko would meet?

Not about ship here. Its your idea, your fic. But one thing that makes Shig well Shig...is his thing for Izu.

Hero Tenko has 0 reason to care for Izu...guess who has tons of photos said villain?

Also...I do think Tenko would be mistreated in ua.

Which now makes me think on afo. He would take izu in out of the godness of his heart...so it would be easier to believe lady nagant did that than afo.

(I totally think he would have killed Izu, specially if is quirkless Izu. Why? Bc he is afo. He is dumb and cruel)

You may write afo as bad guy as you want but thanks to canon is so hard to see him as a big deal.

To conclude: I think Tenko would be treated badly in ua(courtesy of Aizawa) and I like to think Izu would be somewhat ok if lady nagant is his mentor. Izu destroying Bk's life is sexier than him just murdering him

Indeed :) I like your stories too and seeing Izu get the appreciation he deserves.

A good point, since we don't really see how hero families really work or if there's prestige or expectations of heroism that come with that it could be easy to see Tenko as expected to continue the family line of heroism.

However, in my story I am thinking of a different angle - enter Dadmight. Instead of having AFO twist little Tenko like he did in canon, an ally of AM finds him and... cue the number one hero navigating his way into fatherhood as well as nurturing Tenko to help him heal from his trauma. Which inspires little Tenko to want to save people like All Might does (and Nana did.)

For the first part, that's a spoiler for now 🤫 but I'll have to add to the tags of the story when I post it. Also - did you read my mind? I am planning on having villian!Izu keep up his hero / quirk analysis hobby and be a fan of Tenko.

As for Tenko's time in UA... That'll be spoilers 🤫😏

And Izu does get sweet revenge on Bakugou with the assistance of the LOV and AFO 😁

k I get to talk about traitor fic pt 1 now cuz enough time has passed (admin it's been like a day) but anyways.

Theron being unwillingly complicit in giving Eight to the Order of Zildrog as a hostage is a parallel to how Lana let him get captured in SoR, but reversed bc I like situational irony, and Theron's weird status as a spy who can't compromise his ideals makes it so he lands in hot water when he makes his weaknesses to obvious, and in this case he can't choose between the life of an ally and maintaining his cover. Eight, however is used to being a pawn, so he makes it for him. Not that there was a choice in the first place, and Theron experiences the anxiety of being thrust into a decision-making role that affects people other than him, as the narrative of KOTXX originally doesn't let him or Lana experience since they're relegated to advisors who rely on the Commander to decide everything and the Commander to experience all those consequences while they have no agency besides expressing agreement or disagreement.

In this case, both he and Lana now are leaders, but Theron is not used to having to bargain with lives and makes the wrong calls repeatedly, as well as being manipulated by other factions who are ahead of him in the spy game. Both he and Eight re-experience being pulled in multiple directions and used by intelligence agencies as mere stepping stones again the minute they leave the safety of the Alliance, but Eight never stopped being used even by the Alliance itself and Theron only starts to come to terms with that knowledge when they're on their own. Then, there's Lana who is the acting Commander here since Eight is unable to fill a leadership role of any kind who is betrayed by Theron and realizes she has misunderstood their relationships entirely, as she was blindsided by the need to be "saved", as she put it in Eight's KOTXX playthrough. Not only that, her role as a leader made it so she now viewed her close companions as resources (again) though she was largely unaware of the rift that formed. But just because someone suffers the same history and works under you doesn't mean you're close in any personal way, and that's a fact she horribly awakens to. Also, Rishi callbacks again.

Vinn Atrius has always been a point of interest to me though he doesn't show much in the actual game's Traitor Arc besides being pissed for shallow reasons, so I'm trying to both keep his character while expanding on it. I also keep thinking he's way bigger than he actually is because of the way his armor makes his beefy rippling biceps look massive, so that entered my writing of him as well. Arms... He strikes me as somewhere between honorable and so disgusted by outlanders that he circles back to that occasionally, but he was Vaylin's personal guard and I like to imagine he had a strong loyalty for her.

I meant to write an extra scene at the end of the chapter where he and Eight have a stiff talk where he stashes him behind a rayshield cell, but the framing makes it look like he's the one imprisoned which reflects how he's trapped in his insular and petty revenge plot that-- *is dragged offstage* buuuuuut I'll get to that next time. Also even MORE parallels to Eight's trapped status and Lana confronting Theron in a similar place but also "only one who can under me is my enemy" Malgus talk and- ok that's it thanks for coming to my TEDtalk.

Just an idea of something to consider happening in the future, maybe there’s a fire in her apartment or somewhere she happens to be at and she gets stuck and the 51 crew have to get her out and it gets a little dicey (I’m a sucker for some angst) and then some hospital stay and recovery fluff? Idk you could completely disregard this but I’ve been thinking about it a little bit haha

If you've been reading the author notes as well, you'll have seen that I have *cough* a LOT *cough* of parts planned out for this series 😂 and some kind of fire rescue situation is definitely an idea I've been playing around with! In the meantime, I'm not sure how far you've gone in your read through, but there is definitely some danger/angst/hurt/comfort/fluff coming up that I hope you'll enjoy!

yours are vvvvv good (obviously thats why so many people follow and love ur works 😌)

sometimes i can be like persuaded to follow a headcanon and others im stuck on.

like originally i didnt have an opinion on how jake is portrayed cause i didnt read many jake fics but now im def on board with like the submissive puppy jake agenda where he can get rough and/or desperate cause hes sooo desperate and in love (and horny) for you

and then jay i fs see as a service dom and nobody can persuade me away from that 😤 but my opinion usually might differ a bit cause i cant imagine jay as a mean dom 😥 i mean unless he's asked/wanted to be a mean dom i just couldnt see it 😔 this is just me projecting but i enjoy the like 'always taking care of you. puts your needs before his own, wants the whole world for you' jay (but i could def see like teasing moments when he might dabble in overstimulation or edging just to add a little spice but not be like full on 'mean dom')

this is why i will always be a strong believer in reading long fics with plot. the build up is so so important to a sexual dynamic and i'm never going to change my stance on that. sure, i like reading straight pwp from time to time but not if the headcanon doesn't line up with how i see them in my head.

the best part about reading and writing is that, everyone can have their own opinions, read what they want, and write what they want. the issues come when people demand that their own headcanons be the standard.

i would 100% roll my eyes at a pwp fic where the first sentence is my boy jake saying something like "such a slut--" blah blah blah, because he would never say that without context in my own head. but that doesn't mean the writer did a bad job or isn't valid in their own regards tbh

i got a lil off topic but the point is, i prefer my own headcanons because im a picky bitch, i love when people share the same headcanons with me. however, i don't mind that there is variety in terms of fics, i think there needs to be variety so, shout out to the people who write the fics i absolutely will not touch.

I loved your latest fic! I love that you had Nancy express basically the conclusions you came to about this all messy situation, and that you had her be such a great helpful friend like she'd been to Carlos last season when Tarlos were broken up.

I said in the tags that probably they wouldn't have them talk next episode since there's already a lot that needs to happen, and I stand by it, but it would be nice if they showed even a little bit of something like it in the scene where TK talks to everyone worried about Carlos (that's assuming that's what the scene is about of course).

As I said anyway, that conversation between tk and Nancy is now canon for me

That scene of Nancy, Mateo, Paul, and Marjan sitting in the loft, waiting with TK for Carlos to get home, seeing how sad TK was just spoke to me. I love the way that both Nancy and Carlos are able to speak to TK in a way where he has to look at things from a different perspective.

Just like in 2x07 (which honestly feels like a million years ago now) when Carlos talked TK off the ledge of thinking that Nancy hated him, Nancy was doing something similar in 4x02 when TK was talking to her about the Iris situation.

I have loved the TK/Nancy dynamic since 2x07 – I like the way they tease and bicker like siblings, but are also supportive of each other. Nancy in 3x08, being so concerned about TK, the potential of him relapsing because of his mom, her going to Tommy out of concern, but feeling so guilty about it, was just something that I have irl experience with, so having her be the one that stays, the one to get through to TK, stop his spiral seemed like a natural conclusion for me.

Writing has always been my outlet – and holy hell has this whole storyline/arc given me so much to write about.

Now, while I don’t think we are going to get much of a resolution to the arc scene, I think we may get something else. We just might have to watch the whole season to see it clearly.

*Season 3 started out with them broken up & let’s be honest, season 3 was more about TK’s pov.

*Season 4 is starting out with them together but with obstacles to their happily ever after & will be more from Carlos’ pov.

While I think that we will get plenty of TK this season, I think (and the articles/interviews kind of suggest as well) that this is Carlos’ season – the time when we see things more from his pov, while not completely losing sight of TK’s. We will get glimpses into TK’s head (the actors have vastly different contracts – so I think Ronen is contracted for all eps, while Rafa isn’t.)

We have been watching mostly from TK’s pov, we saw him realize his mistake with the break up, we saw him go through some shit, we also saw him figure out how to open up about his addiction and the issues it causes for him to Carlos, we saw him put his fears to the side for love.

Now, I think we are going to see a similar thing, only from Carlos’ pov. We are going to see him acknowledge the things that are holding him back from the life he wants/needs. We are going to see him at his worst (to him at least – a Carlos with no control would be him at his worst.). Then we get to see how he comes back from it. We will see if he starts opening up more about his past, his choices. We are getting the pieces slowly, just like we did with TK last year – we were left bread crumbs throughout the season, culminating in the beautiful proposal scene. I think there is a good chance this season ends with a beautiful wedding scene, but with Carlos finally being 100% himself, flaws and all.

I do think we will see Carlos say something on screen – whether it is in a fever dream, therapy session (OG does them, why not LS – besides I would think that the job would require therapy before being able to return to work anyway), or a talk to the wall – that man needs to verbally acknowledge what holds him back & down.

I really love this show – I am also loving how much it is making me think & the inspiration for a ton for fics!

I really enjoyed writing this one – it literally just flowed out – it feels real to me, so thank you!

This is kind of a random question (it's more of a discussion than question really) but I've been dying to talk about this with someone and I can't since I'm the only TMNT nut that I know irl so I'm asking you (lol). Anyway: what do you think happened to the lair in Rise? I mean, it's definitely destroyed for sure but like where do you think they'll live? From what I can see in the movie trailer it kind of looks like an abandoned train station (idk how to feel about that). I'm asking mainly your thoughts because I lowkey wanna write a fic that's set after the series finale but have no idea what to do with the lair :') Tbh, I kinda want to write it as if the lair never got destroyed but I feel like that would be cheating

I've also seen the bits in the trailer and it does seem like they're in an abandoned train station. I actually think that's really cool! A part of me wants to maybe create a similar lair for my own version of the turtles. But that's another discussion

As for your fic, I guess it depends on what you want/how accurate you want it to be? I think the destruction of their lair in the finale was really poignant in showing how real the whole conflict was and how out of their field what they were dealing with was. It really made that conflict impactful and have consequences. I'm personally not a fan of things going back to the status quo, but I have seen some fics that talk about fixing up the old lair that seemed pretty good. So again, it's up to you. I don't think there's really any "cheating" in fanfiction haha

Heyy,

You’ve been making me think, what if Hydra was messing with the supernatural stuff? Cos I mean red skull knew about some Norse stuff right? The tesseract and that. Like maybe they tried to summon a demon/deity of Slavic mythology or something as I can imagine them having a powerful being would sound like a nice idea for them.

And if it worked maybe Bucky was unfortunate to be there while it happens, maybe it was an accident or they used him as a vessel. As I guess he’s kinda like an empty shell in a way, what with being wiped a lot, but anyway I’m babbling. He gets taken over, maybe sharing a body with it( maybe the fuse? After sometime) but over time it’s apparent that it’s becoming harder to control him so they cryo-freeze him…

What supernatural being do you think would be best? Or something

OMG Anon! What a fantastic question! 

It would make sense for Hydra to be into some supernatural shenanigans, and I love the idea of them using the dear Winter Solider as the host. You could have so much fun working that all together, and there'd be a lot of different ways to frame the story. 

As for the mythology… I think it would depend on what you were trying to do with the plot/what Hydra was trying to achieve. There are a few things that I always use for Bucky, but I linked them to parallels to Bucky/the Winter Solider; I didn't approach it from a goal-orientated Hydra POV. 

So to me, step 1 would be to identify what Hydra was thinking when doing this. What did they want to achieve? And how good are they at this supernatural stuff? Are they sort of bumbling, and thus it would be an achievement to get some household spirit/demon or are they good enough to be god-summoning? 

That's how I would go about it. Lay down solid foundations for the basic premise and then build from there. It'll also help with the research process because you'll know what you're looking for.

But, for some starting points for you:

Viy – Overall badass; can kill people with a single look.

Zmey Gorynych – 3-headed dragon – could be interesting for the whole 'Hydra' concept.

Beda – a female demon, but she's got some cool plague vibes and lots of creepy torturing.

For something a little different… One thing that has always fascinated me is the idea of General Winter. It's not so much ancient mythology as a modern, urban take on the idea that wars fought in Russia during the winter always go badly for the attackers. Because of that, they look at the element of winter as a personified army commander. You could tack that onto a God of Winter (there are many; it would depend on if you were going broad Slavic, more locally specified, pre/post-Christianity, etc.). It would give you a very 'American Gods' feel, and while I did something similar with Wind Will Carry Us, you could spin that concept in so many ways. Especially if you did keep it modern-day, canon-divergence, etc. OMG, I love this idea…
