You know, the civilian Bruce au is so funny to me, just because of the whole situation with Talia.
Like can you imagine:
Bruce: *acts like a himbo*
Talia: Well I can't just not fuck him now can I?
I think Damian was created by taking Bruce's DNA?
Ra's: Who's DNA did you take to make this baby?
Talia:...
Ra's: WHOSE DNA-
Just imagine Damian leaving to go live with his father and expecting him to be this powerful warrior or something and instead getting this rich himbo.
Damian: I'm the blood son, so I will be the one to inherit his legacy!
Tim...you wanna be a doctor that bad?
Damian: What
Like, his father doesn't know about his children's vigilantism, he doesn't even know that Talia was an assassin from the league, he doesn't even know what the league is. Mother why?
If he wants to be a vigilante as well he has to listen to his adoptive brothers, which really grates him. He also has to keep it from Bruce, which he really doesn't get.
Bruce just keeps accidentally guilt tripping Damian into a normal child.
Bruce: I'm just so glad our family is getting along. I just don't what I would do if you didn't like your brothers 🥹
Damian, who is definitely not getting along with his brothers:...yeah...
Do you think he'd inherit his mother's taste in men?
Jon: *does something stupid*
Damian, near tears: I think I get it now mother, I'm sorry I kink shamed you.
Okokok I getchu, but I also need to add here that Bruce’s parents were certainly not normal and He certainly isnt normal. His parents read motherfuckin The Veldt by Ray Bradbury to him as a BEDTIME STORY!!
The Story in Summary: the Hadley family, two kids and their mom and dad, live in this automated home that can do anything for them. It can cook, clean, wash the kids, put them to bed, anything household work like you can imagine, it can do.
Kids have a VR Room called The Nursery. The Nursery is stuck visually showing an African landscape (w/ lions eating dead carcasses in the background and people screaming). They call a Psychologist for answers of this landscape. Psychologist tells them to turn off the house. The Hadley’s agree. They doubt their parenting abilities but this guy helped reassure them that doing this will help their issues. The kids protest heavily but the parents’s resolve is firm. They tell their kids they can visit The Nursery one last time.
The parents talk about the kids a bit more before going into The Nursery to collect the kids. They are met with a pride of lions. The screams they heard in The Nursery before is reminiscent as the ones they are currently making as the Lions tear into them.
The psychologist goes to check on the kids. They are in the Nursery having tea. It’s still the African Savanna. Lions are feasting on two bodies far in the distance.
The psychologist realizes what has been done. A child offers him tea like nothing is wrong.
That’s the story. Its a very shitty summary but its the best I could do with my current brain functionality. But can you imagine why I think that’s a Not Normal Parenting Tactic for the average child?
I have the personal belief that Bruce’s parents were quite eccentric and a tad on the strange side. You dont grow up stewing in your own grief and then decide to become a vigilante crime fighter after a traumatic event with a regular upbringing.
All I’m saying is that if you’re going the Civilian!Bruce route, he’s absolutely protective of his kids, but his personality would still have some similarities to the OG Bruce Wayne. Still enjoys working out and maybe this time he actually gets those copious amounts of injuries doing eccentric Rich people sports and getting hurt from trying to pull off wild as hell stunts.
He isn’t a man who doesn’t do anything when he’s in the line of fire. He still has learned self defense and knows damn well how to fight and fight back, just not to the degree of a vigilante.
I’m unsure how to fully characterize a Bruce who his parent’s death never consumed his entire being and made him into Batman but this man certainly will pretend to be a himbo in front of the press. He might not have that playboy guise anymore because normally its a way to hide his Batman identity. He certainly doesn’t have the Batcave but you bet your ass that this man HAS tried to go spelunking in the caves below his house.
Idk that’s all I got for this but its just me adding on with my thoughts. Bruce unknowingly keeping the boys grounded in normal life actives in a way that means more for the boys than Bruce would ever understand or realize is some good shit.

I love your metas! I was wondering... have you or anyone else tried listing all of Bruce's childhood traumas? Comics zero in on Crime Alley, but EVERY time I see a snippet from his childhood it's invariably a little-to-a-lot fucked up whether his parents are involved (loneliness, bedtime stories, his mom lovingly promising to haunt him) or not (falling into the cave, going to a boarding school run by a killer in Batman Gothic, Tommy Elliott in general, a childhood friend died of diphtheria in Batman Through the Looking Glass... he saw a LOT of death as a child, actually...)
Thank you! I unfortunately don't know of a post listing all of Bruce's childhood traumas. You've kind of already covered a lot of bases, Anon, but for the sake of completeness I'll go through all you've mentioned and the traumatic incidents I can recall too:
Bruce falls into a well full of bats and develops a phobia in response [notable post-Crisis flashback in Batman: The Man Who Falls]
At five years old, Bruce's favorite story to have Thomas read to him every night for a month is “The Veldt” by Ray Bradbury, which is largely about kids with such neglectful parents that they bond with an automated house and then leave their parents for dead [mentioned by Bruce(s) in Batman/Superman (2013) #2]
Bruce witnessed his father performing surgery on a dying man [flashback in Batman: The Long Halloween]
Thomas reads to Bruce “The Animals and the Pit” by Alexander Nikolaevich Afanasyev, a story containing cannibalism and brutal fights for survival [flashback in Batman (2016) #74]
Thomas had Bruce watch horror movies with him, with Martha having to comfort Bruce afterwards in a bit of an unorthodox way... by promising that if they died, his parents would haunt him [flashback in Detective Comics (2016) #1027 -- Ghost Story]
Bruce experienced neglect as a child, with his father's parenting style being potrayed in multiple stories as authoritarian, which led to Bruce idolizing him and craving his approval, but running to Martha for comfort when his father was too harsh [notable flashbacks in Batman: The Dark Knight II (2011) #12, but bits of this can be seen in Batman: The Long Halloween, Batman: Hush, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #58, Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on a Serious Earth etc.]
Bruce had a friend called Celia Small for a while, whom he adored. He watched her die of diptheria while he recovered, blaming himself for it [mentioned in Batman: Through the Looking Glass]
Bruce was sent to a private school as a child, which he resented as being "sent away"; the school is described as hell, a place where children were beaten, humiliated and had to fight off the sexual advances of older teachers. Bruce gets spanked as physical punishment by the headmaster, who turns out to be a serial killer, because Bruce glimpses the severed head of his only friend Robert as it happens [flashbacks in Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight #7 -- Gothic]
Bruce accidentally shoots a duck with a rifle his friend Mooley had brought with them, and the death of the animal becomes a traumatic memory associated with the death of his parents, because of the gun [Batman: Secrets #4]
Bruce's childhood friend, Tommy Elliot... um. I guess I can just list Tommy Elliot, but the most direct traumatic experience at the time must've been having to stop Thomas from killing another kid, after which Thomas was put in a psychiatric institution [flashback in Detective Comics (1937) #837]
Bruce's father hits him while angry about a stock investment, with Bruce declaring in childish rage to his mother afterwards that he wants him dead... on the same day that his parents got gunned down, because Bruce's survivor's guilt needed more ammunition [flashback in Batman (1940) #430]
And then there's the shooting of his parents at the tender age of 8 years old! So all of this is prior to that! Two dead friends, one who avoided him after the unfortunate duck incident, and one friend who had a violent breakdown and got taken away... And Bruce attempted suicide after his parents died too, as told in Batman (2016) #12.

Here are a few Tarak and Titus interactions from the Part One novelization I just had to share!
I love the idea of them being best friends, so these little moments from the novel made me so happy:
Note: [The stuff in brackets are things I added to provide context.]
At the Colosseum (this isn't a direct interaction, but it's amusing how Tarak is somewhat eager to meet the general):
Tarak smiled in amusement and pointed to one of the gladiators wrestling. "That man there. That must be Titus... General!" A gladiator with a face that wore many wins and losses turned to Tarak. "It's not. General Titus does not fight anymore." Tarak frowned. "But he is here! Did he lose? Injured?"
When they find Titus on the floor:
Tarak scrunched his face then raised his eyebrows. "Well, I hope he fights better than he smells."
Before meeting the Bloodaxes:
With her elbows on her knees and head lifted, Kora studied Tarak's face. "You left [your planet] before either [death or enslavement] could happen to you." Tarak couldn't look at any of them. Kai stood leaning against the freighter with a blade of hemp root between his teeth. He stared at Tarak. "Great, now we've added a coward to the army, that'll be a help." Titus watched Tarak. "At least he dares to stand and fight with us now, pilot."
During the fight on Gondival:
Titus scooped up a dropped Hawkshaw automatic and stood wide-legged next to Tarak. The two men caught each other's eye and exchanged wicked smiles while they mowed down the soldiers of the Realm with the same amount of mercy the Realm had extended to them.
After Titus's speech:
[Titus] gave [Kora] a wide grin before pulling out his flask and taking a long gulp. He passed it to Tarak, who drank in solidarity.
When they land on Veldt:
Tarak spotted the Pleasure Emporium. "Do we have time for a quick drink? One for the road?" Titus elbowed him. "A drink? Is that all that is on your mind?" "Hey, I've been shackled for way too long. You'd be craving a drink too."
To sum up, here are Tarak and Titus, lol:

I can't wait for Part Two!

REBEL MOON (2023) | CHARLIE HUNNAM as KAI
Since these Veldt farmers can’t possibly fight the Imperium alone, Kora sets off with a mercenary starship pilot named Kai (Sons of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam) to find help, since his Tawau-Class freighter is necessary to get them off-world and back again. It's not a ride built for comfort. Very little in Rebel Moon has a high gloss.
“It’s more of a dieselpunk world than a steampunk world,” Snyder says. “There is a sort of higher-energy source than gasoline, since they have a way of jumping across vast swaths of the universe, but the technology hasn’t really changed in quite a while.” Snyder’s universe has become a stagnant one, in part because of the dictatorship weighing down on it and siphoning its resources.

Aris, the young soldier who helps Kora fight off the other soldiers on Veldt is the son of King Heron. In the novelization, King Heron’s world is destroyed by the Imperium when he is discovered to have been sheltering the Bloodaxes. His family is implied to have been killed in the attack—except for Aris.
The Imperium’s method of wiping out whole communities/worlds and sparing one person is so fascinating. And it explains why so many people would be willing to eventually fight back.

more detailed character breakdowns from the Rebel Moon first look:
Kora (Sofia Boutella) - described as a newcomer to Veldt, Kora “rallies [the village] to resist rather than roll over. She has bee hiding in this moon after fleeing from her own role within the leadership of that oppressive government.” The character is “a symbol for the way people ignore or run from their lives, until they can’t anymore.”
Kai (Charlie Hunnam) - mercenary starship pilot.
Gunnar (Michiel Huisman) - described as “a handsome but meek farmer” who is “naive about the world outside of his village” but knows a lot about wheat.
Nemesis (Doona Bae) - a swordmaster who is partly mechanical. “These swords are powered by gauntlets that she holds. The gauntlets are these ancient [artifacts] for her home world, and part of the rite of passage of being a warrior in her world is you have to cut you arm off, and then you put these kind of robot arms on. That allows you to wield these molten-metal blades.” She is a “defender of the poor and oppressed”.
Tarak (Staz Nair) - described as “a barbarian-inspired warrior with a royal history who now labors to pay off a life-debt”. Tarak is “more Tarzan than space warrior” who is “in sync with nature to the degree that he can bond with a Bennu and ride it into battle”.
General Titus (Djimon Hounsou) - Something in his past forced him to leave the Imperium. When Kora “tracks him down at this coliseum on a sort of gladiator planet where he’s drunk and sad and doesn’t want anything to do with anyone.”
Bloodaxes (Ray Fisher & Cleopatra Coleman)- Darrian & Devra are “galactic insurgents who have been angering the Mother World with a hit-and-run spree of attacks against the Imperium, withou being esceially effective at stopping its reign of abuse and terror”.
Milius (E. Duffy) - character and performer is nonbinary. Described as “the heart” of the group, they want to defend Veldt because they never got to defend their home world before it was destroyed. They have the “purest motivation to fight”.

Okay it was in my tags before but now I think about it more Rebel Moon could actually have been a really great first season of a TV Show?? So please consider, with all the spoilers: Rebel Moon Mini Series season one, A Child of Fire:
Episode 1 - We are introduced to Kora, a mysterious woman who recently arrived in a small farming community on Veldt. We are given exposition on the community, learn of her tentative bonds with the community, with the village father, with Ven the hunter, with Gunnar, and there are always hints of something off about her, but it is not spelled out just yet. Then the Dreadnought arrives, and she is like 'well fuck I am out of here' but the village father convinces her that they will make this work, and that she should stay - stay low, but stay - and she does, because she likes these people. Of course things go tits up IMMEDIATELY and now she's killed a whole platoon of soldiers, the village father is dead, and in 10 weeks, the Empire will return, take all their food and probably slaughter everyone. Kora wants to leave, but Gunnar begs and pleads with her that he has contacts within the resistance, and can find them help, but can't get there alone and needs her help and once that's done she can leave and will never have to look back. So she does, because that guy is so innocent and he wouldn't survive half a day out there on his own. They set out together. We also get the Sam and Jimmy scene in this episode, and Jimmy's exposition about the assassination of the royal family.
Episode 2 - This episode opens with the resistance of the Bloodaxe twins (were they twins, I honesty don't remember) taking out some empire freighters or whatever, some way to get food for their people and also weapons. It's a victory, it's a cool space scene, where the tactical skill of the twins is highlighted. There are no losses, it's a clean victory, and it has Noble in FITS. This is where we are first introduced to the twins. Cut to Kora and Gunnar who reach Providence, and it's like a cheesy western movie. On the way there, we had just a brief conversation about Kora's past - she was a soldier, had quite a high rank - nothing specific yet. We are introduced to the bounty hunters and their prisoner (Gunnar's contact) as a 'remeber this, it'll be important later' kind of drop, we don't see Kai exchange money with them, but see them buy him a drink or something, or vice versa, just a 'harmless' interaction. Saloon fight breaks out, Kai gets involved, they make their escape in his ship, he offers to take them off world. With Gunnar's contact to the twins lost, it is revealed he actually doesn't know them at all, so they go with their second best choice, the disgraced General Titus. Kai has to make a few stops along the way, for business - nothing about picking up people on the way, just 'business' - it's implied he's a smuggler and picking up contraband, but Gunnar and Kora don't care bout his activities because they are like 'if he does illegal shit he'll likely not want to get caught, and we don't want to be caught either'. Meanwhile, we also have a look back at the village, where Jimmy is undergoing some kind of awakening after the scene with Sam. Also there, that young soldier kid who was the only decent one is becoming a bit of a figure - he helps prepare the town for the inevitable horror that is to come, he teaches them to defend themselves (just because you can't wield a sword laser gun, doesn't mean they won't make you die by it, might as well put up a fight). Sam is the first to come to him about this, because she never wants to feel so helpless and scared again. And if yall wanna be horny, sure, we can include some tentacle porn with Noble, cause why make the show any less horny than the movie was? Its while he learns of the attack by the Bloodaxe twins or something.
Episode 3 - Starts off somewhere else entirely, and we get the backstory of Tarrak I can't speak to because we don't goddamn know it! He's a prince of somewhere? Guess his people were subjugated by the Empire, his family killed, he was sold into slavery, something like that, and ends up chained to that forge place. We see some scenes of his life there, and the arrival of the griffin (Bennu?). Basically the plot of Spirit, we see these two secretly connect, whenever he can get close enough. It's a very quiet episode, not much speaking, just gentle bonding between man and animal, because he's the only one who treats Bennu like a being with feelings and not some wild beast. Enter Kora and the boys. Kai is having dealings with the guy whose name I forgot, but Kora notices Tarrak and asks why he's chained up. They are about to leave when she gets into betting with the guy about Tarrak's freedom, but we already know Tarrak and Bennu have bonded. Still, it is tense, because there's a difference between giving pets in quiet moments, and actually riding a giant winged creature with a beak and claws like swords. But of course he does it, because he's awesome. They are about to leave when Bennu breaks free, kills the guy and catches up with them because she is bonded to Tarrak now (logistic wise, I know she probably can't go on the ship but I just want them together, the shirtless man needs his flying horse bird! And also you got a goddamn GRIFFIN and don't use her for the rest of the movie?? WHY?!!!). Meanwhile, Noble is investigating the twins, and has footage of them making trade with Gunnar, so he's like 'this fucking guy?! Lied to my face?!' and he checks in on Veldt and learns that his men on the ground there were all killed. No one he saw in that barn could do that, but he remembers seeing Kora and he's like 'wait where have I seen her before?' and he goes through records, and lo and behold, he finds her file in the most wanted database and we see her real name (including something that identifies her as Balisarius' ward) and we're like '??? What does it mean?!'
Episode 4 - Again, we start with some backstory on a new character, a nameless woman who's children are killed - by the empire? We dont knwo because the fuckn movie didn't tell us shit about her other than that she lost a kid??? Then we cut to the ship, and some lighthearted banter between the current crew, Kora, Gunnar, Kai, and Tarrak, and Bennu tearing up the cargo bay and being adorable. Gotta establish some friendships! Tarrak and Kora teasing Gunnar about being too sweet, Kai and Gunnar swapping recipes, Kai and Kora being slightly flirty, Tarrack singing songs from his homeworld to Bennu and the others listening in while they work, that sort of stuff. They make a stop on another world for businesss Kai has to do, but find the city is in disarray, talk of a monster. The group goes to investigate, and learn a child has been taken. Kora - flashing back to another child dying on her watch - can't look away, and goes to find out more, against the advice of the others. They arrive just in time as Nemesis goes to confront the creature. Hers is a name only whispered in fear and reverence, the greatest assassin of the known universe, that sort of stuff, and we see her in action - but she isn't violent, she talks with the monster, tries to sympathize with it, as she, too, has lost children, and knows revenge and justice are often only separated by a thin and blurry line. Still, it comes to combat, and Gunnar swoops in to save the child while Nemesis fights and Kora runs distraction. The creature is killed, but it is not celebrated. Nemesis is heartbroken over it, because she understands this creature - because she WAS this creature, in the time when she was fuelled by her greatest rage and grief. When she learns that the party is looking for help to protect a town full of innocent people (including children) from the empire's indiscriminate slaughter, she wordlessly joins them as they leave. She's just there now, making herself comfortable without a fuss. Meanwhile, Noble finds out from his prisoner where the Bloodaxe twins were hiding last and he's like 'guess we're paying a visit to King Levitica'. We see the bountyhunters he dealt with leave, and they go through their newest contracts and we see there is a message from *gasp* Kai.
Episode 5 - Starts with Veldt, and we see what the hell is going on with Jimmy right now. He's experienceing nature. He's going on a full on druidic pilgrimage. He builds idols to the Princess out of leafs and twigs and we see flashbacks in his meditations, of the Princess bringing the bird back to life. And we hear the King say that iconic line about her bringing a kinder future for the universe, and him entrusting her safety to the one spoken to and we think it's Jimmy but then it's revealed to be Kora! And we see Kora being like this big sister figure to the Princess and then a harsh cut to Kora standing in shock over the dead bodies of the royal family, with blood on her hands and like did SHE do it or?! and then she wakes up back on the ship to the crew bickering while Nemesis is somewhere in the vents, eating an apple and watching them like it's reality TV and the most entertaining thing she's seen in half a century or however old she is cause honestly, she's probably a cyborg? we arrive on Pollux and go to the arena to speak with Titus and he's asleep/drunk in a ditch and has no interest in going with them because he is disillusioned and disgraced and all that, so how do we get him back on his feet? we appeal to his honour and his glory and somehow we end up in the arena fighting him and showing of his skills, and he has a particular grudge against Kora and they beat each other bloody and he accuses her of killing the Princess and she's like 'If I had done that I would have killed myself, if you think I could have done that then kill me right now!' and it's honestly emotional and they bond over both having believed in the future she would have meant for the universe and being betrayed by what the believed in, what they fought and killed for. And once they got it out of their system, Titus agrees to join them to protect Veldt. Back on the ship, Gunnar is like 'what the hell??' and THIS is when Kora reveals to him, and only to him, who she really is, but then we cut to Kai who's been listening in because it's his ship and there's no privacy, but also Nemesis was in the vents listening in on HIM listening in on them so she is like what is that guy up to?
Episode 6: The group meets with the Bloodaxe twins and their army. Negotiation begins and they're like 'we got our own food supply line now (as established in an earlier episode), we don't need your grain, why should we help you?' But Gunnar is convincing, and then Kora and Titus chime in and Darrian is like 'shit these guys are exactly what we were not so long ago, just little people tired of being target practice for the Empire, if we don't support them then what even is our cause??' So yeah, just as in the movie, he and his volunteers join them and now we got him and a bunch of resistance fighters with their ships ready to go. He joins our crew, his sister takes the remainder of their army and leaves to find a new hideout because they are certain it's just a matter of time before they're found by someone who has less than good intentions. As if on cue, we see Noble standing over King Levitica, surrounded by his dead people, but he's not even interested in finding them anymore, he's just like 'you were hiding them from our benevolent regent, and for that you gotta die' and beats him to death with his big stick. Back on the ship, the crew sits down for a shared meal, swapping battle stories, comparing scars, bonding (think, the cheese heist lasagna dinner on the Rocinante in season 2 of the Expanse). It's genuinely lighthearted, people are optimistic, they are a strong team, Veldt will be fine! Throughout the entire episode, we see Nemesis trying to get a moment with Kora, but somehow Kai is ALWAYS there. Kai explains he has to make one more business stop before returning to Veldt. As in the movie, they are unloading some cargo in the rain, but something seems off. Nemesis also moves to Kora, slips her a message that just says 'he knows', and she looks up at Kai, she sees him with the bounty hunters, meets his eye and his 'nothing personal' and the trap springs, too late for them to react. Several of Darrian's soldiers are killed immediately, Kora, Nemesis, Tarrak, Titus and Darrian are all shackled and disabled. Kai reveals that originally he had no intention of selling them out but then they kept collecting high profile outlaws and he thought 'actually might as well??' but then came the cherry on top when he realized who Kora really was and how could he NOT? A man's gotta survive, right? The whole spiel about 'I was just like you but there is no justice in the universe and you should have learned that by now'. He offers Gunnar to join him, promises it'll work out better for him. Gunnar refuses, cause he's honorable that way, and Kai calls him naive. From then it plays out pretty much like in the movie: Darrian dies taking down the Dreadnought, Kora has her big fight with Noble, Gunnar kills Kai for betraying them and almost getting Kora killed, the crew fights as a team because they have forged bonds while travelling together. Bennu also comes out and Tarrak is now a mounted combatant, picking off soldiers like fish in a barrel. When the dust settles, the nameless resistance soldier that is now apparently on the team is mourning their fallen comrades and Darrian (this is their origin story?), and Nemesis, Titus and Tarrak comfort them, telling them their sacrifice means nothing if they stop the fight now. They take the ship, tossing Kai's body overboard with the obligatory 'knew that guy was shady from the start!' and they return to Veldt. Jimmy sees them return, the village has started to fortify, and they approach through the fields on their horse-aliens - except Tarrak, who rides Bennu. The final scene is the imperials retrieving Nobles body and hooking him up to that whatever machine, but we don't see him interact with Balisarius at all, we just see him pop back to life and his first new gasp of breath cuts away to the end credits.

the way kora has accepted that she will never get revenge. not for what was done to her. not for the way balisarius betrayed her. everyone she recruits to protect veldt can get revenge bc it is the motherworld as a whole, someone they cannot put a face to, that hurt them, so simply fighting their forces is revenge in itself. but kora knows she's never gonna get that kind of closure because it would be near impossible to get to him, all she can do is dream...and even if she did get close. who's to say she could do it. shes failed to pull the trigger before and maybe she would again.

O wae is me my hert is sair, tho but a horse am I. My Scottish pride is wounded and among the dust maun lie. I used to be a braw Scots grey but now I'm khaki clad. My auld grey coat has disappeared, the thocht o't makes me sad.
- Royal Scots Greys, poem recited in reaction to the change their scarlet uniforms and grey horses to khaki.
Formed in 1681, the Royal Scots Greys cavalry unit was Scotland's senior regiment. Its long and distinguished service continued until 1971, when it was merged into The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.
The regiment was formed as The Royal Regiment of Scots Dragoons in 1681 from a number of existing troops of cavalry. Its first action was the suppression of the Earl of Argyll’s rising, launched in 1685 in support of the Duke of Monmouth’s revolt.
Following the Glorious Revolution (1688), the regiment went over to King William III, fighting for him against the Jacobites in Scotland. It was ranked as the 4th Dragoons in 1692.
The following year, the entire regiment attended a royal inspection in London mounted on ‘greys’ (horses with white or dappled-white hair). This gained it the nickname ‘Scots Grey Dragoons’. However, this only became part of its official title in 1877, when it was renamed the 2nd Dragoons (Royal Scots Greys).
After a period of home service, it joined the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-14). The regiment fought at Schellenberg (1704), Blenheim (1704), the Passage of the Lines of Brabant (1705), Ramillies (1706), Oudenarde (1708), Tournai (1709), Malplaquet (1709) and Bouchain (1711).
It spent a further period on home service until 1742, when it joined the War of the Austrian Succession (1740-48). The regiment deployed to Germany first, fighting at Dettingen (1743). It then moved to Flanders, where it served at Fontenoy (1745), Rocoux (1746) and Lauffeld (1747).
It’s next major battle honour was at the Battle of Waterloo (1815). This was its only Napoleonic battle honour, at which 201 of its men and 228 of its horses were killed attacking a French infantry brigade. In this attack, Sergeant Charles Ewart captured the French 45th Line Infantry Regiment’s eagle. This later became part of the unit’s cap badge.
A long period of home service followed until the Crimean War (1854-56). There, the regiment won two Victoria Crosses charging uphill against 3,000 Russian cavalry at Balaklava (1854).
On returning home, it saw no further active service until the Boer War (1899-1902) in 1899. During this campaign, it camouflaged its white horses with khaki dye. In the years since Balaclava, much had changed about warfare. Gone were the red coats and bearskin shakos. The Scots Greys would now fight wearing khaki. In fact, with the popularity of wearing khaki that accompanied the start of the Boer War, the Scots Greys went so far as to dye their grey mounts khaki to help them blend in with the veldt. It took part in the Relief of Kimberley, fighting at Paardeberg (1900), before joining the advance to Bloemfontein and later Pretoria, service that included the Battle of Diamond Hill (1900). It also fought in the anti-guerrilla campaign in 1901-02.
After returning home in 1905, the Scots Greys stayed in Britain until August 1914, when it moved to France.
It fought on the Western Front as both cavalry and infantry, winning several battle honours including the Retreat from Mons (1914), Marne (1914), Ypres (1914), Neuve Chappelle (1915), Arras (1917) and Amiens (1918).
According to a report in Scottish newspapers of the time it was decided to paint the horses khaki as their grey coats were too visible to German gunners. This gave rise to a comic poem posted above, of which this is the first verse.

Could you tell me about the Doom League? I am especially interested in Professor Bergamot's role in dealing with them, but also the group in general. I have also been granted the authorization code "firefly" to look into this topic.
Ever studious, as always, miss Aster. Let me grab you the available information, as well as any expanded information thanks to your authorisation key.

Here is the text of the commission to the Foxe and Sittowe delivery guild that was taken up by the part The Horizon, taken up 18 years or so ago:
"The crown of Temay wishes for the return of an artifact stolen from the King's collection, in possession of a band of ne'er-do-wells and thieves calling themselves "The Doom League." While it would be appreciated that the commissioned party attempts to avoid loss of life, if in the course of the artifact's retrieval one or more members of this ruffian's circle is killed, the Crown will not prosecute. Reward pays to the order of one sponsorship token to the Foxe and Sittowe Trove per member of the successful party, up to six members. While not necessarily urgent, haste is appreciated greatly."
The Horizon confronted this opposing party over a series of encounters at Key Lake and on the edge of the Shadow Vale, culminating in a fight in which all but one member of the Doom League was killed.
[Authorisation Recognised] Regarding the Doom League itself, records from The Horizon indicate that the artifact in question was one of several major magical items that had come into possession of a group of what were initially thieves and fences, most of which were cursed. The Crown's item was a lantern containing the essence of a balefire elemental, which was recovered, contained, isolated, and placed into a pocket dimension before being returned. Other items identified by The Horizon were a dark green crystal sword that compelled the wielder to commit heinous acts (destroyed in battle), a coral-encrusted crown of prismatic metal that controlled the blood of the wearer telekinetically (secured in the Academy restricted artifact storage and research archives), a blood-red jacket that increases the wearer's strength beyond the limits of their physical form, resulting in the eventual destruction of the body of the wearer (partially destroyed; remains are secured in the archives), and a coin that, when flipped, temporarily replaces the user with a version of themselves from another dimension or parallel reality (lost during battle, location currently unknown).
In total there were six members of the so-called Doom League, but only five magical items were observed. Fortunately, while they were in possession of several highly powerful magical items, their capabilities did not match those of their equipment, and the fight was only minorly damaging to The Horizon. However, the nature of the fight was such that lethal force was necessary for all but one of them. The one remaining member of the Doom League is currently booked into the Temay Veldt Royal Punitive Rehabilitation Compound. Last records show that they have taken up calligraphy. Their records are available under a search for Simon Gerrz.
The Horizon member Artemus Cognac suffered a few lasting burns on her arms and chest, Morris Jessup was temporarily drained of all blood in his body, Abrecan suffered a broken collarbone and shoulder, Tearing Paper suffered a dislocated hip and a broken foot, and Cosmo Bergamot was stabbed in the back by Abrecan who was being controlled by the green crystal sword. Miraculously, Enzo Clopeda was the least injured of the bunch, coming away with only a bruised cheekbone.
Does this make up what you needed for your studies, miss Aster?

Rebel Moon : A Child of Fire (Part 1)
I really liked the movie, even if it would have been better to see it in cinema, on a big screen.
It's a shame that some characters lacked of story building. We just know that there are good at killing, that's it.
Cannot wait for the extended version, the movie should have been at least 4 hours.
But in some scenes the green screen was so badly done.
Also, I feel the movie incomplete because it's only part 1, we need part 2 sooner.
Btw how is it possible that Admiral Nobel is not dead.
Some quotes:
"- I can't. (Kora) - You mean, you won't?"
"- If I find warriors to fight for Veldt, I give the village hope. If I give them hope, they fight and surely lose. I won't have that blood on my hands. Nor will I throw my life away the same as the rest of you." (Kora)
"- When they first came to my world, I was nine years old. They never asked for anything. There were no terms. Only the lust for destruction. They had trained me, broken me, and rebuilt me in their image. I'm only telling you this so you know who I am. You asked how I know that they'll destroy you. That's what I would do." (Kora)
"- I'm gonna give you one chance to just turn and walk away." (Kora)
"- And to be clear, I don't like bounty hunters either. (Kai) - So you're a gun for hire? (Kora) - No. That's not my thing. I'm more of an opportunist, you might say." (Kai)
"- We have some money, but this is not the one you get rich on." (Kora)
"- There is a difference between justice and revenge. Kindness is a virtue worth dying for." (Kora)
"- Who among you is willing to die for what we believe rather than hide behind it?"
"- Guilt, it's a powerful thing. (Kora) - Aye, guilt. The underbelly of honor." (Kai)
"- They believed in their cause. What better thing to die for?" (Kora)
"- And I should have died with them."
"- This small act of defiance gives voice to the voiceless."
"- This would've been a beautiful place to die."

REBEL MOON (2023) | Anthony Hopkins’ Robot Jimmy Is ‘On A Journey Of Self-Discovery’ In Zack Snyder’s Sci-Fi Story
At the age of 85, you still never know where Anthony Hopkins’ career is going to go next. Recently, he won an Oscar for his heartbreaking performance in The Father, and he’s playing an elder Sigmund Freud in the upcoming Freud’s Last Session. And just a handful of years ago, he was joyriding around in Transformers: The Last Knight. For his next role, he’s taking on another surprising task – not just joining a Zack Snyder movie, the multi-part original sci-fi epic Rebel Moon, but voicing one of its most mysterious characters: the robotic (occasionally antler-wearing) Jimmy.
“Jimmy, I see him as a wild card,” teases Snyder in Empire’s world-exclusive Rebel Moon cover feature. “He’s on a journey of self-discovery.” And it really is one heck of a journey. Jimmy was brought to the peaceful planet of Veldt by the Imperium – the nefarious force hoping to demand all of Veldt’s precious resources, and who get more than they bargained for when the planet assembles a handful of hardened warriors to fight back. (Yes, the inspiration is Seven Samurai.) Once upon a time, Jimmy was one of many identical ‘droids assembled to serve their king in war. Now, he’s been repurposed by the Imperium to do their literal heavy-lifting – and he’s set to undergo a significant transformation over the course of Rebel Moon Part One and Two.
For Snyder, Jimmy represents a significant tonal addition to his sci-fi saga’s more fantastical leanings – an Arthurian element to sit alongside influences ranging from Akira Kurosawa to George Lucas. “I’m a huge Excalibur fanatic,” he tells Empire. “He’s Lancelot for sure. I was thinking about him, and how Milius [another hero, played by E. Duffy and named after Conan The Barbarian writer-director John Milius, as well as filmmaker Mike Mills] is Percival.” Expect a legendary arc for a robot like no other.
