Season 2 part 1 of DR was just fucking amazing and I have so many feelings about it. I feel like I'm talking about this pretty late cause the first 5 episodes also aired on TV for me like a week before they dropped everywhere else. (Win for the german fans.) But then I couldn't even watch the recorded episodes of this week till yesterday cause I wasn't home and nevermind I'm rambling again.
Cole and Geo are so perfect for each other. I love them. And at this point I have to confess: I never shipped lava. (don't kill me please) Lostshipping (that's their shipname right?) is supreme.
Generally I am so happy that Geo, Bonsel and the kids were able to leave the forgotten land. Even if it was due to a villian attack. But hey. Everything has a positive side. (I'm literally so happy for them, especially the kiddos.)
Lloyd was just stressing all the damn time and I'm here for it. Sleep deprived Lloyd was also perfect.
(-> It makes me whonder why Zane hasn't really had any visions anymore since this used to be his thing. And what exactly the reasons for visions are. Since Lloyds visions seem to predict the general bad future. Zanes visions were more centered around him I think.)
Also Zane just being the designated guy to stay at the monastery with frog dude
SIBLINGS. So much good Kai and Nya sibling content, especially with the flashback. The last season was already good on RGB sibling content so I really love them continuing that.
Also Kai still being a dad/older brother/mentor to Wildfyre. He just took full custody over her. On accounts of that Wildfyre not listening to him like the little gremlin she is.
So much good Kai in general.
Bonsel and her witch mom. That scene was so beautiful. I'm not the only one that saw the coming out allegory here right?
Jay showing up again and him just being absolutely done working with the administration. Bureaucracy is truly hell.
On that note. The bureaucratic back and forth between Zane and the two agents was amazing.
The dehumanizing of Zane from the Agent wasn't very amazing.
KAI AND BONZEL ARE TRAPPED IN THE OTHER DIMENSION 😭😭😭😭 It's destroying me innerly. Especially with how Kai did not care about his own safety at all. My dude. You're trapped in a dimension with 4 of 5 evil spirits wandering around in there somewhere. Not to forget the only (known) ways to get out there are another blood moon in like a million years or smthng or a core dragons power who are scattered around who knows where.
So yeah. Lots of feelings. About Kai especially. I might even start write Ninjago fanfiction. (Surprised I didn't do that yet)

One of the things I'm particularly bitter about when it comes to this ending is how it flattened Ed and Izzy's relationship.
You can't, in the same season give me
"I have... love for you, Edward." "I loved you, best I could." "Artsy outsider was always your thing." "A shark did this."
and
"Hello Mr. Latch! it's not your fault you're broken, no. Were just trying to do your job, weren't ya?"
and expect me to just... move on from that, accepting that we will never get anything more from them, that their relationship won't get explored, that they won't have a the chance, time and space to finally talk it through as a crew, to air out their grievances, to reach a boiling point, and to decide where to move on from there. Within just a few episodes they became the most fascinating part of the show for me, and the fact that, as far as we know, this is it for them... yeah, I don't like that at all.

the fact that almost every character in ofmd is specifically a gay man is seriously so fucking special like usually a show will have 1 character from a minority group and then that character has to be every single thing - a person the straight/homophobic audience can accept and even like, someone that deals with their issues the way they "should" be dealt with, someone who's not too much of anything but simultaneously everything because every expected trait has to be displayed at some point or another.... versus this show with its massive cast of characters who are all able to embody specific (and extremely varying) ways to be a gay man where all of their journeys and personalities and approaches to their sexualities are so unique to them but so true to people that exist in real life........ i wish i could express this better coz it's such an incredible thing to see it genuinely makes my chest hurt with how much it means to me
#I'm literally forever thinking about that interview lauren faust gave abt how cartoons will#usually only have 1 girl and then that 1 girl has to be every single thing#like she has to be smart and kind and athletic and loud and pretty and cool and funny and every other trait ever#so when she got to make MLP she finally got a chance to have an all girl main cast and that#gave her the chance to make them really feel like unique people because they finally#had the space to just exist as girls without having to be The Girl. so they could have like. specific personalities#LIKE IT'S LITERALLY THAT BUT W GAY MEN IT MAKES ME SO ILL...... IM GATHERING ALL OF THEM IN MY ARMSSS#i really really wish i could explain this better#like omg when izzy is telling lucius how to deal w his issues they're both gay. when ed is reminiscing w fang they're both gay.#literally clawing at the walls they all mean so much to meeeeeeeee#ofmd#our flag means death#ofmd s2#ofmd season 2#ofmd spoilers#ofmd meta#i guess ????????#also YES i know there's characters that arent gay men but that's kinda part of my point too#like even in media where there's more than 1 token lgbt person they're always#different identities coz the writer needs 2 different things to explore#instead of exploring how 2 people with the same identity might differ in a thousand little ways#and they also always lose that sense of belonging together that's so essential here#like ohhhmy gof oh mygod they're literally all gay in some way. massive found family of gay ppl....#it's just that i think this show is mostly abt exploring themes of masculinity and mlm so most of the cast being gay men makes cents

before max is in el's life, el wears dull blues and neutral dark colors. (blue because of her relationship with mike) (edit: i just realized el has a very faint bit of red on her flannel when she becomes max's friend and also in her first appearance in s3. interesting.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
but when max and el become friends, el's life brightens with color. max brings vibrance and brightness to el's life. (notice how el wears a lot of red's and rainbows... and she even wears a very slight purple in her flannel which could be signifying she's starting the journey of being and finding herself)
Tumblr media
and when el moves away it's almost like she loses the color she recently found... (also notice max not wearing bright colors either here. her shirt being a kind of purple)
Tumblr media
when el is shown in season 4 for the first time, she's wearing little to no color. the only color she is wearing is RED. (and which character is associated with the color red?)
Tumblr media
when el sees max in a coma, seeing her for the first time in person after she moved, her color is once again... gone. back to the neutral dark hues and even the blue. (el wearing the hoodie to disguise and hide from anyone noticing her... putting on the blue to hide herself...)

i don’t condone cheating or ghosting but what else was simon supposed to do? he tried to break up with marcus and was manipulated into staying in a relationship he didn’t want and wasn’t ready for
as lovesick and selfish as wille was this season/end of last season he accepted the end of their relationship. when simon broke up with him he was obviously sad but he accepted it and (although it took him some time) eventually moved on in s2. hell even before he moved on he didn’t do any of the guilt tripping marcus does. as selfish as wille was he was always honest with his intentions and that’s more than i can say for marcus
i truly went into this season ready to defy the odds and not hate marcus but even when wille was selfish and hurting people with his actions he still showed how much he cared even if he was being petty. like when simon rebuffed his attempts at touching him and rekindling their old relationship without solving anything wille backed off. was he petty about it and made snide comments (‘is it okay if i sit here? i know how much you value your space’) but he still respected the touch boundary simon had set. he tried to let simon go after he realized he was happy with marcus. hell he even made polite small talk with marcus to show simon that he accepted their relationship because he’s learned that actions speak louder than words. as much as it was killing him he thought letting simon go was what was best for both of them so he was willing to do it
unlike marcus who preyed on simons insecurities and told him what he wanted to hear to keep him in the relationship. the way he blanked simon’s attempt to break up with him will never sit right with me
wille might have been selfish for not wanting to let simon go but marcus was more selfish for actively preventing simon from leaving

i’m so late but??? Tua s3 japan???
Steve Blackman has mentioned in interviews that he'd hoped to have the Umbrellas go to Japan in S3 and that's where the HOb would have been (an example being this Polygon article). It's why (I assume) the cars are right-handed and the HOb is Japanese-themed - it was supposed to have the context of They Are In Japan. But with Covid restrictions they had to scrap all of that and either they'd already made the sets or didn't reverse on the theme so it just comes off as weird orientalism.

Headcanon (or. How I Made Sense of the S2 Finale):
After Izzy's death, Stede underestimated the grief of the crew and tried to act like everything was business as usual.
After an especially insensitive comment, Frenchie chewed out Stede for coming up with such a stupid plan that cost Izzy his life.
Ed tried to come to Stede's defense, but Frenchie finally stood up to Ed and dressed him down entirely, telling him he didn't get a say because of all the abuse he put Izzy through in life.
The crew were so impressed that they unanimously voted for Ed and Stede to leave the ship and Frenchie to become captain

Cause there's a blood moon on the horizon Like the blood tide rising in my heart With iron on my tongue, I will never be his son And I'll tear that bloody tyrant apart!

TMNT 2012’s Wiki says that Splinter’s year of death was 2013, meaning that season 1 up until the end of season 4, and all that crazy shit the turtles went through during those 4 seasons, took place in the span of only 1 year.

wrote a long post about subtle changes i would have put into s3 of ted lasso to set it up as a four-part show, accidentally wrote another post now about potential s4 stuff (but do not have it in me to write out an episode by episode structure post)
but also really the main gist is that why I was initially confused at the 3-season structure (and then I felt right in having felt it should have been longer when I did watch the season, despite liking where it ultimately landed on those final scenes), was that everything barring ted himself felt like it needed a bit more time
if ted ended s3 by making his decision and telling rebecca (either on or off screen, but if it were cliff-hanger I'd say off) and then having all of s4 setting that up while he's in a much better place to help others with their various things after a s3 where he was so in his own head that he wasn't a very good coach for almost all of it -- and then also a story about when he's planning on telling the team
if one could have fully dealt with sam's narrative about being hounded for standing up for his ideals and grounded him more centrally and built up to him joining the nigerian national team, rather than jumping to it, and given proper space to his interpersonal relationships (such as with the woman managing his restaurant, sorry I forget her name rn)
if nate could have had a whole season after being with west ham where he's back with the team, in which he could have, yes, made it up to some people, but also dealt with how it felt to be with west ham and before that, how he was treated by his teammates, his girlfriend, and even his own father
if rebecca could have had that whole season after their manchester win to go "oh wait, I really don't care what my husband thinks of me" while getting to share scenes with both his ex-wife and his current (but also soon-to-be-ex) wife, showing the three of them in a supportive space recovering from being in a relationship with a manipulative, cheating, controlling man
if keeley could have a whole season building her company with her new, more financially savvy and more organised friend at her side, barbara, while not centering romantic relationships/having her realise that she really can be okay without one (whether or not she is with anyone by the end, but actually giving it a whole season's worth of time)
if there could be a whole fallout/supportive trend after colin publicly kissed his boyfriend on the football pitch, to really give us more actual delving into what it means to be out as a male football player, and perhaps isaac taking that on himself as both his best friend and team captain, and how that plays out in contrast to perhaps other teams, none of which would have out players
if roy and jamie kind of... I guess continued along the lines they were doing, but really got to get into the former's feelings about being "old" in football terms, but not really that old at all, and the latter's relationship with his father (and yeah, I'm a roy/jamie/keeley fan, so scenes that let the three of them be mutually supportive and effortlessly close with one another)
with trent crimm's own narrative continuing to be that of documenting and pulling together the structure
and all of that with a main storyline on building a women's football team and centering keeley's storyline around that as well (also soooo many gay characters then, for realism 😜 also I know two non-binary football players who play semipro personally, there's more than that, so that could be a storyline too...)
just a bit more time youknow
it would have first of all given a final season that broadens the world they're in more, after a third season that wasn't trying to wrap things up and so maybe gave us a bit more west ham/just football beyond the tiny sphere of richmond
and crucially that things weren't flattened to make them get to the ending faster (things like how some characters had done some really nasty stuff (rupert, jamie's dad), but at some point characters just went *ah well, but I'm over it enough to start moving on,* or how sam never quite got to carry an ongoing dramatic arc that wasn't solved with a handwave that didn't give enough weight to how serious his narrative was, or whatever jade's deal was and how she wasn't nice to nate (and neither was coach beard's gf) and the rushedness of keeley's company and need for romantic partnership to feel safe in herself, etc.)
I really liked the ethos of the show and I enjoyed watching it, but I do not believe that three seasons was the intended structure, and I think if I knew for sure that was the case, I'd be more shrug-and-move-on of some of its rushedness than I am now, where I'm trying to understand what prompted those choices if indeed they were deliberate. because there was a lot of unexplored territory for almost every character, I think especially the characters of colour (nate with how he was treated and sam with his politically deeper storylines) and the female characters (keeley with her business, potentially rebecca with her kinship with bex)
like how the sense8 movie could never in a million years have paid off all the plot that came before, but we're just glad for the catharsis
also lastly, it could have still setup a potential spinoff centering the woman's team entirely, if that was something one wanted to do

Soooo I just watched episode 8 S3 of final space… and I’m so glad that Ash and Gary are having a good conversation that makes it seem like ash is going to be okay and that she doesn’t really blame Gary… but Ik that it just gets worse and worse and Ik that Ash does get an actual villain arc and I’m going to cry when it does happen because I rlly want them to stay in this nice moment of having a normal conversation
