Blue and Fire Engine Red, Pt 1
(The Firefighter/Cop AU)
-----
Kara knows her local fire station. How could she not? Being a field sergeant for NCPD, not a week goes by that she’s not at a scene with a ladder, engine or ambulance. Even so, when Engine 13 pulls up on the scene of an apartment fire, a new face comes to get a sit-rep. She’s sure the woman asks some very good questions, but only one word fires across Kara’s mind and out of her mouth.
“M-march?”
The firefighter’s brow furrows. “Sorry?”
God her voice is as beautiful as she is.
“Sorry, what was the question?” Kara stammers.
“I asked how many were still inside?” The woman is clearly still befuddled by Kara’s blurt, but she stays on topic.
Kara clears her throat. “We think three. One is a three year old on the third floor with her mother.”
The firefighter nods. “Thank you, Sergeant,” she says with that same throaty voice. She turns to her crew and begins issuing orders. Kara notes that the men– and all of them are indeed men– launch into motion without question. Huh. Kara files that information away for later.
Kara’s job is done. She steps back to help with crowd control, leaving the rescue team to do their job. She trusts they know what they’re doing, she knows they do. But she can’t help the way her jaw clenches when they file through the smoking door, Firefighter March in the lead.
She can’t believe she did that. March?! Absolutely no one needs to know her familiarity with the NCFD annual calendar. She’d purchased one for the charity of it all, but the moment she’d seen the portrait for March she’d been done for. Let’s just say it’s been March for the past four months.
She must be a transfer from another station, Kara figures. Her image in the calendar confirms that much, let alone the authority she carries within her station's crew. Kara can only hope March doesn’t make the connection between the calendar and Kara’s word vomit.
That hope is dashed after March re-emerges with a middle-aged woman slung over her shoulders (with her comrade carrying the three year old steps behind her) and the fire is reduced to little more than heat and smoke. After passing the mother over to the paramedics, March catches her gaze and approaches, lifting her helmet free of her head to reveal mussed dark hair.
March grins, tucking her helmet under her left arm. “Sergeant,” she greets. “I missed your name earlier.”
“Danvers,” Kara returns, accepting March’s extended hand in a handshake. “Kara Danvers. Welcome to the neighborhood.”
“I appreciate that,” comes the easy response. “I’m Lieutenant Reilly.”
Kara arches her brow. “Lieutenant?”
“Lena,” she gets with a burst of laughter. “A pleasure.”
For a moment there’s a beat of silence as Kara finds herself tongue-tied. Lieutenant Reilly– Lena– is somehow even more gorgeous sweating with a smudged face and fuzzy hair. Luckily, Lena isn’t nearly so daunted.
“You know,” she says, “being new to the area, I could use a recommendation for a good bar.”
Ohhhhhh, jeezus. Kara recognizes the flirt for what it is, and it fills her belly with butterflies. But she wasn’t made sergeant yesterday. She knows how to give it back.
“I’m sure your guys could point you in a few directions.” She folds her arms over her chest with a teasing smile.
“Ah, but they’re not nearly so cute.”
Lena’s head tilts invitingly, and Kara has no intention of drawing this out.
“Well, then, when can I pick you up?”
Lena beams. “I’m on shift until Sunday. Why don’t you stop by the station tomorrow so we can compare calendars?”
Kara freezes. Oh no, oh no, oh–
“I might even sign yours if you ask nicely.”
Lena shoots her a parting wink before sauntering off. Kara’s cheeks flush as she watches her go. Only when she’s sure Lena is engrossed with packing up her team does Kara finally radio her status back to the dispatcher. Almost instantaneously, she gets back the report of a robbery nearby.
“This is Danvers, Unit 1P4 responding.”

The jury summons arrives on a Friday.
“You have to get yourself disqualified,” Alex says.
Kara frowns. “What about my civic duty?”
Her sister ignores her. She’s on her phone, already finding her an out. “Your occupation should qualify you for an exemption,” she discovers. “It says here, if you’re full-time military, or a firefighter, or a cop—”
Kara holds the letter up for Alex to read. “They didn’t summon Supergirl,” she says. “They summoned Kara Danvers, freelance food critic and full-time reporter.”
-
In which no one escapes jury duty, not even superheroes and celebrity CEOs, and when Kara Danvers and Lena Luthor end up in sequestration, well—the defense submits that there's more than one type of civic service.

Confusion (Late S6 vibes. I found a use for William… I’m sorry?)
The Catco elevators opened to a chaotic scene as Lena stepped out. Despite being afterhours - it had just passed 6pm - employees were shuffling around everywhere, with frequent murmurs and occasional shouts flying by.
“Looking for Kara?” Nia said, passing by Lena while holding a large stack of papers on the brink of falling. Lena opened her mouth to speak, but Nia didn’t wait for an answer. “She’ll be back in a few minutes, I think she’s meeting with Andrea.”
Lena nodded as Nia quickly disappeared into the backrooms. Guess this is normal when they crash the issue, Lena thought, making her way to Kara’s desk and setting down the mocha and pastries she had brought from Noonan’s. She had been lucky to get there just before closing, after Kara’s text that they’d have to skip movie night in favor of a late night at work.
“Lena,” came a deep voice behind her, “What are you doing here?”
Lena turned, nodding to William as he approached. “Just bringing Kara some stuff,” she said, gesturing to Kara’s desk. “Late night for you too?”
“Yeah,” he said. “Hopefully the last, before I move back to London.”
“You’re moving?”
“Looking forward to going home,” William said. “I’ll be leaving in a few weeks. Just enough time to hand off my responsibilities at Catco.”
“Going back to The Times?” Lena asked.
William nodded. His eyes drifted to the coffee and sweets, and Lena noticed a tinge of confusion. “I best get going,” he said, not remarking on what he was thinking. “The senator’s fraud case means I have an article to rewrite.”
“Good luck,” Lena said, as he waved and left. Lena turned back, finding Kara as she rounded the corner with Andrea. Kara met Lena’s eyes, and the blonde smiled wide.
---
“You smell like smoke,” Lena said, brushing ash off of Kara’s shoulder, eyeing the charcoal hues that tinged her supersuit.
“A forest fire will do that,” Kara said, practically shaking like a dog to get other ash off her hair. “Luckily we got it before it spread very far.”
William glanced over curiously from where he was jotting notes. He had been working with Alex and Brainy on mapping out city hotspots when Supergirl had arrived back from her firefighting. It hadn’t taken long for Lena to make her way out of the lab and go up to the super.
“I think we gotta spray you down,” Lena teased.
“Brainy said the nanobots can handle it,” Kara said, tossing her hair back. “I just gotta deactivate at some point.”
“Yeah, you gonna get around to that soon?”
“Will you two knock it off?” Alex said, her voice aggrieved. “Some of us are trying to get work done.”
The two had the good sense to look a little bashful, and William glanced over curiously. From his side, he could hear Alex mutter “just good friends, my ass”, and he watched as Supergirl threw her head up towards Alex, flushing slightly, and seeming suddenly unable to look a confused Lena in the eye.
This is going a bit too far, William thought, eyes darting to Lena. Flirting with Kara? And Supergirl?
---
“Well, it’s been great working with you,” Supergirl said, extending her hand.
William returned the gesture, then doing similar with Alex, and J’onn, and Lena. “Please do keep in touch,” he said. “I’d love to hear from you when you’re back in London.”
“Have a safe fli-” Supergirl suddenly turned her head.
“Something going on?” Alex asked.
“Bank robbery downtown. Might be a big one,” Supergirl said. “Safe flight, William. We’ll see you later.”
William nodded as Supergirl left, J’onn and Alex following. That left him behind with Lena, who didn’t frequent the field unless magic was afoot. Which left him a bit grateful for the chance…
“Well, William-”
“Don’t break her heart, Lena.”
Lena’s brows furrowed, utterly perplexed. “What?”
“I see you,” William said, a serious expression on his face. “The way you flirt with Supergirl. The way you flirt with Kara.”
“Kara- flirt-” Lena’s eyes widened.
“Look, they’re both clearly interested in you,” William said. “All I’m saying is be clear with your intentions. Kara doesn’t deserve a broken heart.”
“I don’t have intentions. With- with either of them,” Lena answered.
William’s face tensed with skepticism. I’ve said my piece, he decided. “It’s been great working with you, Lena.”
---
William tilted his head back against the plane’s headrest. The 5hrs from National City to Metropolis had been annoying enough. Now it’d be another 6hrs to London. I hope I can get more sleep this flight, he thought, glancing out over the Atlantic Ocean.
He looked down at the gossip rag he had purchased in Metropolis Airport, beginning to flip through it. It was mindless garbage, hopefully boring enough to lull him to sleep.
As he turned the pages, he was surprised to find a picture of Kara Danvers and Lena Luthor - but then again, it was only a matter of time. It’s just so fucking obvious, William thought, wondering if the tabloid suspicions would force Lena to choose.
But he was also unsettled - it was an odd location. To any casual reader, it would simply be a random picture on the street, the two perhaps on the way to get a cup of coffee. But he knew they were just feet away from the Tower. A location that, according to Alex Danvers, Kara had no awareness of.
He stared, and stared. Would Lena be so foolish to ask Kara to meet there?, he thought, knowing the Luthor was too smart to make such a casual mistake.
That’s when his already-jetlagged brain began to scan Kara again. The blonde hair. The emphatic voice. The way she fiddled with her glasses. The way Lena flirted with her, just like-
Wait, William thought, startling awake with a shot of adrenaline. Wait, WHAT?!
---
It was early morning when Lena took her seat at a lab bench, her mind still swimming from William’s observation the day before. Have I really been that obvious?, she wondered to herself. Does Kara know? And if she does, she hasn’t said anything because…
Lena put her face in hands. God, I hope I haven’t been making a fool of myself.
“Are you okay?” came a voice.
Lena’s head popped up, finding Kara wandering into her lab, a hint of concern highlighting the blonde’s face. “Your heartbeat is fast,” Kara said, “I just came over to - to see if something was wrong.”
“I’m fine,” Lena said, her voice a high-pitched squeak.
“Lena,” Kara said, taking a seat next to Lena, pulling her into a hug. “Lena, I’m here.”
Lena sighed, relaxing into Kara’s arms. What am I so afraid of?, she thought to herself. That Kara doesn’t feel the same way? That our friendship will change? While the first was the only likelihood Lena could really see, the second… just didn’t seem like a real possibility.
Lena pulled back from the hug, gazing into Kara’s face. Didn’t we learn we should be honest so long ago?, she thought. Even when it’s hard? “William… said choose,” Lena said slowly, feeling the heat rising in her cheeks, “Between Kara and Supergirl.”
“Choose?” Kara said, confused.
“I’ve, er,” Lena swallowed harshly. “I’ve apparently been flirting. With both of you.”
Kara’s eyes widened. “On purpose?”
“No…”
“Oh.”
She sounds… disappointed?, Lena thought, and she knew Kara could hear her heart beginning to pound a little faster. “I- I can do it on purpose? If you want.”
And this time Lena felt a growing joy in watching Kara flush. “I’d like that. And, um,” Kara paused, shifting shyly. “Maybe after we do that for a while, I can ask you on a date?”
Lena smiled. “I’m looking forward to it.”
------------------------
This idea has been floating around in my head for a while. I did do a 9-word fic for it - but then I figured hey, may as well write out the full thing.

Tumblr media
Kara knew it was going to be a long day the moment her sister called her at 5 am, and asked her to help with a rampaging alien in town. She kissed her girlfriend softly on the forehead and teared herself out of bed, put on her suit and jumped into National City's sky.
It was well after 8 when Kara finished dealing with the aftermath, stopping to help the firefighters to take control of the area and clear out any debris. She made it to her office at eight twenty five, after a quick stop to shower at home, only five minutes short of her meeting with Cat. She shot Lena a quick message to reassure her she was okay, promising to make it to lunch and went in to greet Cat.
The meeting stretched longer than she liked. She started daydreaming about lunch with Lena and considered surprising her with some flowers just because, when her phone rang again with Alex emergency ringtone for the second time that day. Cat waved at her dismissively, telling her to "go save the day." Kara flashed her an apologetic smile and left.
She's only been to the new DEO a handful of times after she stepped back from most of her Supergirl duties. It was quite similar to the previous one, if only the Med bay had better access and less glass doors. J'onn and Alex were already near the big screen, styling the schematics of an old warehouse.
"What's up Alex?" She asked, making herself known to the group.
"It's about the attack from this morning." Alex said.
"Did he escape?"
"No, apparently this guy was a distraction. While you were fighting with him, there was a massive break in inside a large warehouse belonging to Lord industries. They were working on a special energy source that was far from market ready, which means it's highly dangerous." Alex used her serious tone, meaning things were worse than it seemed.
"If it was a distraction, did you try to interrogate the attacker from this morning?"
"That's the other thing," J'onn crossed his arms, his brow furrowed. "We identified him as a G'newtian, a very peaceful species that is more likely to give up than even attempt a fight."
"Then, why..?"
"We found traces of toxin in his blood," J'onn continued.
"He'd been dragged?"
"Most likely," He nodded. "We're working on an antidote, hopefully we'll be able to break him out of it soon."
"We are currently trying to locate him by searching for the energy signature, But we–"
"Director Danvers!" One of the agents cut her off. "We received a message that there's another attack near the pier."
"I'll take care of it," Kara announced. "You focus on the next heist."
"Alright, stay safe. We'll update you once the antidote is ready." Alex said and Kara flew out.
It was another G'newtian that greeted her at the pier, raging terror and destroying everything in sight. She did her best to hold him back, prioritising keeping civilians safe over taking him down. Nia joined in part way through the fight, using her dream energy shield to protect who she could. Kara didn't want to cause the poor soul any more damage than necessary, he was as much of a victim there as the rest of the people around then, if not more. When an agent told her the antidote was ready, she made a quick trip to the DEO balcony, leaving the young mother to make sure everyone was safe, took the antidote from the agent, and came back to swiftly stick it to his upper arm. It took a few seconds, but the G'newtian passed out motionless on the ground, ending the fight with minimal damage.
Kara just made it to the DEO with the G'newtian to let him recover, when Alex strode in, face furrowed and emanating pure frustration.
"I guess you didn't catch them?" Kara guessed, using a lighter voice to hopefully alleviate some of the tension. It didn't seem to work."What did they steal this time?"
"Power plant, they took the new L.L foundation's emergency energy capsule." Alex pulled up the schematic on the screen.
"They already have enough power to level the entire city with this thing." J'onn pointed out.
"You think they're building a bomb?" Alex inquired.
"There's a good chance for that." J'onn nodded.
Kara took a step back and let them continue the investigation as she checked her phone. It was well past lunch time, she quickly opened Lena's conversation to apologise, finding there a few messages asking her to be safe with little red hearts. She smiled to herself and pressed the call button.
"Kara! Are you okay?" Lena asked before she could even say hello.
"Yes, I'm more than fine," she tried to reassure her.
"Are you sure? Is there more going on? Do you need help?"
"I promise we got it under control, and if we need help, Alex will call you immediately."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, It's probably just another alien. I defeated many before."
"I know many aliens that are not 'just'."
"Oh, yeah? Anyone in particular?" Kara was grateful to break the tension with some light flirting.
"I wouldn't call you 'just'."
"What am I if I'm not 'just an alien'?"
There was a small beat of silence. "You're a gift from the stars, Kara."
Kara was left speechless, she wasn't ready for this kind of statement. Warm feelings spread throughout her body, giving her the energy she needed after everything she went through that day.
"Promise me you'll be safe, alright? We need you safe."
Kara nodded to herself and swallowed hard. "I promise."
"I love you."
"I love you, too

56 with Alex Greenwood
Not How I Planned - Alex Greenwood
Tumblr media
I used scenes from Station 19 for this fic.
Reader is a firefighter and got stuck in a really bad fire which ended up fine eventually. But while the reader is stuck, she phones Alex who is in a Lionesses camp.
Prompt 56 - “Just marry me already.”
_________________________________
You and your team sat down eating as quickly as you possibly could because you never know when you would have time to eat again. There was casual conversation going on as the alarm signalled that you had to go on a call. Dispatch talked through the speakers, “Ladder 16, reported people trapped inside a storage locker. Coordinates being sent over now.”
Quickly you got up and ran to put your fire suit on and got in the fire engine as Hernandez, one of the men on the team got into the driver's seat and started driving after turning the sirens on. The people on this call were you, Joe Hernandez who was Captain, Nate Charles, Andrew James and Kara Cruz.
Once you get to the scene you get updated by another Station that was there. There were three people stuck inside. Which made you jump into action, you ran into the building with Cruz next to you and Charles and James went together as well. Captain Hernandez stayed outside because he was scene commander.
You start banging on the storage units and shouting.”It’s the Fire Department! Anyone in here?” You continue doing this before you hear banging and shouting back. “Cruz! Come help get this open.”  You shout to the other firefighter as you get ready to open the storage locker.
Cruz quickly comes to your aid and you open the storage locker. There were three men inside with a fire in the furthest corner. “Captain coming out with the three males that were stuck.” You say as you lead the three men to the exit along with Cruz.
You finally get back outside and make your way over to Captain Hernandez, just then Charles says over the radio. “We can’t find our way out! This place is a fucking maze.” You look over at Hernandez to get the okay to go back in to get Charles and James out and he nods. “Take the hose in with you. Charles, Y/n and Cruz are coming back in to find you and James.” Captain says over the radio as you and Cruz run back into the storage facility that was burning.
After about 3 minutes of searching there was an explosion from the storage locker in front of you and Cruz which knocked both of you off your feet and hit your heads on the floor.
_________________________________
You woke up gasping for air which you were running out of and looked around, you could see Cruz and from the amount of blood you guessed it wasn’t good for her. You crawled over to her and checked her pulse that wasn’t there anymore.
“H-hernandez? There was an explosion. Cruz is d-dead. I have about 8 minutes of oxygen left in my tank and I have a rather large piece of metal in my leg, I can’t move. Could you get Alex on the radio please? I have to speak to her, in case I don’t make it.” You say over to the radio to your captain to which he replies. “We’ll get you out of there Y/n I promise. I’ll get her on now.”

At the Lionesses Camp
The Lionesses all sat down in the lunchroom eating, chatting and laughing. When suddenly there was a loud ringing coming from Alex’s phone and she looked at it and her heart dropped which was apparently very noticeable on her face.
“What’s wrong, Al?” Lucy asked Alex, concerned for her teammate. “It’s Y/n’s Captain.” Alex said shakily and as she answered the phone she rested her head on her hand. “Joe? What’s wrong? Is Y/n okay?” Alex said desperately not wanting the love of her life to be hurt or worse. “She asked me if she could call you…just in case. I’m patching you through to her radio now okay?” Alex nodded before remembering he couldn’t see her. “Yes okay.” Alex takes a deep breath before putting her phone on speaker and puts it on the table in front of her.
_________________________________
Back to You
You hear Alex breathing down the radio. “H-hey beautiful.” You say while wincing at the pain coursing through your body.
“Y/n what's wrong?” Alex says sadly like she knew this day would come.
“I’m trapped in a storage facility, I’ve got metal sticking into my leg and about 7 minutes of oxygen left. I wanted to talk to you inc-” You get cut off by a coughing fit as you are running out of oxygen.
“Incase I don’t make it out of here. I don’t want my last conversation to be about my dead friend that is a few metres away from me. Fuc-” You get cut off again by another explosion that sounded quite far from you, it made Alex and her teammates gasp.
“Y/n? Babe? Are you there?” Alex says quickly wanting and needing an answer as Ellie Roebuck wraps her up in a side hug.
“Yeah yeah, I’m fine. I just hope Charles or James gets here soon. I mean we’ve still got plans! I was supposed to be at your game tomorrow and meet your teammates in person for the first time. Y’know what? Alex?” You ask her while steadying your breathing and Alex replies as tears roll down her face. “Yeah babe?”
“Just marry me already. You're ready and I’m ready. Let's get married.” Which is the last thing you say as you hear Alex screaming down the phone because you have passed out from the lack of oxygen.
_________________________________
A Month Later
The next thing you hear is beeping which makes you try to open your eyes but all you could get to move was your hands. Then you hear a gasp and a hand on yours. “Y/n?” A familiar voice says as she stands next to your hospital bed.
Finally you manage to open your eyes and you see the love of your life, Alex. “A-alex.” You stutter from your rather dry mouth and quickly Alex offers you water with a straw which you drink rather fast. “Help me sit up?” You say to Alex looking at her lovingly and to which she does help you sit up.
But once you do, you look down at the bed you were on and only see one foot poking up underneath the blanket. You look at Alex with tears clouding your eyes and she also has tears streaming down her face. Quickly you remove the blanket off of you and your hand covers your mouth in shock. You didn’t have most of your right leg, from just above the knee was and down.
“What about Charles, James and Cruz?” You ask Alex looking up at her. “Charles and James are fine. But baby…Cruz died. You told me over the radio.” Alex says while tears stream down her face as she sits on the side of the hospital bed. “Right.” You say and lean into Alex. “Why can’t we have a happy ending?” You ask Alex while tears start streaming down your face.
“Wait, you never answered me over the radio.” You say to Alex as you wait for your answer. “Of course, I’ll marry you baby.” Alex says as she leans down to kiss you passionately.
_________________________________
About A Year Later
It was yours and Alex’s wedding day, her team the Lionesses and Man City were there as well as Joe Hernandez, Nate Charles and Andrew James, your firefighter team.
You stood at the altar in a suit and you had a prosthetic leg on which you had gotten used to wearing now.
The music started playing as Alex started walking down the aisle, you thought that she looked absolutely stunning.
The person who starts the wedding says tons of stuff which has to be repeated. They finally got to the best part.
“Do you take Y/n as your lawful wife/husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish until death do you part?” The person asks Alex.
“I do.” Alex says grinning happily.
“Do you take Alex as your lawful wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and cherish until death do you part?” The person asks you.
“I do.” You say looking at Alex lovingly.
“You may kiss the bride.” The person says to you.
The both of you lean in and share a short but meaningful kiss.
You are now married to the love of your life.
Alex and Yn Greenwood, have their happy ending.

I’ve been doing a CF rewatch and just got to the beginning of Girls on Fire in S8. I absolutely love Boden, but I couldn’t help but notice the difference in how he supported Stella with GoF, vs how he basically brushed off Sylvie when she asked for his help with Paramedicine. I get that she needed the paramedic chief’s approval, but Boden didn’t even offer support for her idea.
We know he appreciates Sylvie, he had that passing comment when we first met Chief Hawkins calling her “my best PIC.” But he’s never really expressed it to her like he has with other characters.
Kara will likely hit 200 episodes (if she exits in 12x07), I really hope they make a similar effort to recognize what Sylvie has meant to 51 as they did with Casey. She was on Ambo more than twice as long as any other paramedic (Dawson was a firefighter for 2 of the 6 seasons, so she was a paramedic for around 90 episodes).

Joining The Superfriends - 12
Tumblr media
Read it on Ao3 here!
Alex, Kelly, Lena and Nia all huddle around the TV in Kara’s loft, waiting for news on what’s happening with the fires and trying to see if any of the cameras are picking up on the whereabouts of their friends.
“I hope they’re ok.” Nia says, eyes not leaving the screen, worried because they haven’t spotted Kara, Brainy or J’onn in a little while and even though it is understandable and expected, it doesn’t stop them from worrying any less.”
Alex sighs, tension sitting heavy in her shoulders and back in a way that she knows will ache for days. “I hope everybody is ok.”
“Me too,” Lena says, wishing there was something she could do other than just sit here and watch as part of the city blazes on, crumbling to the ground from the wrath of the flames.
What they have learnt so far is that almost every building in that one-point seven-mile radius that the bugs were in has been set on fire and the ones that haven’t been are the ones close enough that the fire easily spread to them. This leaves absolutely no doubt that this attack was orchestrated, just like the original attack was.
With the bugs showing up first, it’s very obvious that Lex is the one behind this and by Lena’s best guess, the bugs scattered across the area and then self-destructed. It’s smart really, Lex gets to destroy the city and the evidence all in one go.
“Some of National City’s favourite heroes have been spotted helping to evacuate the area and have been rescuing citizens from the burning buildings. Supergirl herself has also been working closely with firefighters to put out the fires and prevent further spreading of this disaster.
“And now, for the terrible news, it has now been confirmed that six people have lost their lives to this inferno and it is suspected that there may also be as many as nine more people deceased.”
They all gasp audibly when the news anchor provides them with the news that they have been dreading, the kind of news that they have been praying wouldn’t come but here it is, and it can’t be ignored.
“I’m going to dig up every last piece of dirt on my brother and I’m going to make sure he spends the rest of his miserable life rotting in a cell for what he’s done.” Lena spits, eyes filled with rage-filled tears and her voice wobbling along with her chin, fists clenched so tightly that her nails are leaving little crescent moon indents in her palms as she tries to contain herself from breaking something in a mix of anger and anguish.
The fact that it’s Lena’s brother that has caused this damage, that she doesn’t just have to deal with the loss and pain that the situation has caused but also the additional pain of being related to the person that committed such a heinous crime leaves an awkward energy in the air, the other three women want to comfort her, to make her feel better somehow but not knowing how to do so when something so massively terrible has happened.
No words will be enough to make her feel better, to take away some of her pain and to free her of the burden of being lumped in with someone who could do something so horrible.
Instead, they don’t use words. Alex’s hand grips hers, pulling her off of the chair and onto the couch where they all move to and press her into the middle of. Lena finds herself sitting between Kelly and Alex, Nia on the other side of Kelly.
They all have to squish together to fit onto the couch cushions so Alex’s leg is pressed against the arm and the same goes for Nia on the other side.
Alex’s hand rests on Lena’s knee, her attention back on the TV to wait for more updates, hoping that they will get a glance at Kara to make sure she’s alright, although they know she probably won’t be. With how many people have died, it’s fairly likely that Kara has discovered more than one of the people that were confirmed dead and that’s not something a person can live through and not be haunted by.
Kelly’s arm wraps around the back of the couch behind Lena’s head, her body angled inwards in a way that makes Lena feel surrounded but not in an overwhelming way that makes her feel trapped, instead it’s creating a barrier around her, a safety net of sorts that is giving her comfort without a need for words, a clear way that Kelly is showing her that she’s there.
The longer Lena stares at the TV, the angrier she gets at her brother and the pain of what’s happening sits in her chest like a hole is being dug right between her ribs, each new casualty is another shovelful of her being dug out, her chest becoming hollower and hollower.
She forces herself to look away from the screen after a minute of it, the sight of what her brother has done bringing her more pain than she can say, more pain than it brings her brother because only a heartless monster could do something this awful.
Her eyes gloss around the room, taking in the space properly. She’s been here before for game night but this is the first time she’s really taking in everything there is to take in.
It’s difficult to drown out the words that the news anchor is saying but she makes her thoughts as loud as possible, talking to herself in her head and making notes on Kara’s loft like she is displaying it to herself, explaining each feature.
You could fit my apartment in here three times over with how big it is and this isn’t even considered a large apartment.
The entire place has been painted in pastels and where it couldn’t be painted, there’s exposed brick, I love exposed brick.
It’s very Kara, the cushions are especially her style.
In the corner, there’s a canvas and paints. There is a half-finished piece on an easel and from what she can see, Kara could have been an artist in another life because it’s incredible.
And the bedroom, the bed, it’s…appealing, in other circumstances anyway. It’s not the pretty, patterned sheets though, and it’s not the cosy look of the room, the way everything is on show, borderline cluttered but in a good way, in the way where it shows that Kara has nothing to hide, the room, and the apartment radiates honesty.
Alex nudges her slightly, “you ok? You’re drifting off somewhere.”
Lena becomes aware of the fact that it’s not normal to be staring around another person’s place aimlessly, especially not when said person’s family is sitting beside her, expecting her to be shattered by the news that her brother is a homicidal maniac but instead she’s giving herself a mental tour of Kara’s apartment, being sure not to miss out on anything she can see from her vantage point.
She nods slightly, a single tilt of her head up and then down again. She speaks, her voice dry and croaky, “I’m ok, just trying not to listen to it, I can’t listen to it.”
And just like that, Nia thumbs across the remote, searching for the mute button and the sound is turned off, the others following along with it by reading the subtitles that Nia put on after muting it.
“Thank you.” Lena croaks again.
Kelly gives her a soft look. “We’re here for you, Lena. I’m going to go and get you something to drink, you don’t sound too good.”
“I still have some water, it’s in the bedroom.” Lena offers up, scooting to the edge of the couch like she’s about to get up but is pulled back by Alex, preventing her from doing so.
“Just stay here, Lena, tonight we worry about our people out there, the citizens and one other person. You. Let us be here for you tonight and then we can all worry about Lex tomorrow, alright?” The quiet words hit her hard. More meaningful than she can say.
Choking down her emotions and trying not to cry at the sheer amount of love and support in this room, not just directed at her but the way that she hadn’t noticed that Kelly had given Nia her jacket and Alex is watching everyone out of the corner of her eye, making sure that everyone is as ok as they can be, it’s overwhelming. “Ok, Alex.”
Kelly brings her the water, sliding back down between Lena and Nia, bringing a blanket with her to spread across their laps.
They all fall back into watching the TV, eyes once again searching for their people but they don’t see them. In fact, they don’t see them on the screen at all, not on the aerial shots of the burning streets and not on the shots of the buildings that have now been put out. They don’t see them at all.
In fact, they don’t see them until after all of the buildings have been put out. That might be because they had all fallen asleep at some point of watching the screen but since they can’t pinpoint when exactly that happened, they can’t confirm nor deny anything.
They see Kara, Brainy and J’onn when they come flying in a few hours later, somewhere between eight and nine in the morning, the sound of the boots hitting the floor and them shuffling their way in on tired feet enough to rouse them and have them let out relived breaths at having the people they care about back home safe.
“Thank god you’re alright.” Lena whimpers into Kara’s ear when it’s her turn to hug Kara, Alex sneaking in for the first hug since she woke up a few seconds faster, giving her the head start.
“Are you all ok?” Kelly asks, analysing their faces but seeing nothing but the intense fatigue that is written beneath their eyes.
Kara hums a tired, “yeah.” She rubs at her eyes with the back of one hand, her fingers covered in soot and ash, just like her suit and face. “Yeah, I need a shower though, we all do. J’onn, Brainy, do you mind if I take the first one and you can go after?”
“Of course, it’s your place,” J’onn says, a look of grief flashing across his face briefly before he can hide it behind his mask again. Kara doesn’t give him a chance to take it back, shooting off to hurry through to the bathroom and be done quickly, knowing that Brainy and J’onn must be as desperate to get clean as she is.
All of them except Kara catch J’onn’s look, all unable to see anything other than the look of pure sadness on his face and in his eyes.
“J’onn, are you sure you’re-“ Kelly starts but J’onn is looking down at his feet and shaking his head before she can even finish the question.
“The Tower is…it’s damaged, badly. It’s been partially burned down. I thought it was going to be alright because it wasn’t alight when we first got there but more fires kept popping up and eventually, they took part of The Tower with them. It’ll take months to rebuild it.”
Not caring about the dirt across his body, they fall into a group hug around him, no words available that they could say to make it better so they don’t say anything at all, something that they are finding to happen a lot.
J’onn accepts the hug, the tension on his face obvious as he tries to hide how utterly distraught he is to lose everything, to have his business and The Tower, which is made of Martian technology so damaged.
Kara comes whizzing out of the bathroom dressed in sweatpants and a long-sleeved tee, her hair lying damp and limp around her shoulders. “Bathroom’s free!” She calls, attempting to make her voice light and cheery but failing, just sounding strained instead.
Nobody comments on it though and she understands why when she walks into the living room to see everyone crowding around a shattered J’onn, Brainy standing off to the side, his arm tentatively reaching out into the pile of bodies to rest his hand on J’onn’s shoulder.
She wanders over to the group. There’s no way for her to directly hug J’onn because of everyone else in the way so she just opens her arms and presses herself against both Lena and Alex, closing her eyes and resting her head against Lena’s shoulder, not caring that her wet hair is getting the back of Lena’s shirt damp.
J’onn nudges them away after a minute, in desperate need of a minute alone. “Excuse me guys, I’m going to go and have a shower so I stop getting ash all over the floor.”
It’s an excuse and they all know it, well, everyone except Brainy who is feeling a little put out that he is the last to get a shower but determines that it’s because he was the cleanest of the three of them, mostly just helping to organize rescue teams and evacuations while J’onn and Kara were going into the buildings to carry people out, admittedly quicker and stronger than him.
“How have you guys been? Have you managed to get some rest?” Kara asks, plopping down onto one end of the couch, and pulling Lena with her so she’s beside her.
“Unfortunately, not so much.” Kelly jumps in, “we were watching the news and it kept us up watching all those people suffering and we were trying to look out for you guys so we would know that you’re ok. We did fall asleep at some point though.”
Kara’s eyes darken at the mention of what happened out there. “Yeah, I get that. It was really bad out there, and it still is. There’s a lot of damage, a lot of people were injured and about a dozen dead from what I managed to find out.”
“I guess we will have our jobs cut out for us then when it comes to rebuilding?” Nia asks, smiling though it’s a strained smile.
Kara smiles back, “yeah, we’ll help as much as we can but we will have to work on The Tower too, we’re missing a roof.”
“Did you manage to determine the cause of the fires?” Alex asks.
“I watched those stupid bugs explode before my eyes and they went with a good amount of fire when they did for such small things, I think they must have had magnesium in them or something because the spark they caused was too big for a normal circuit. They were programmed to find fabric too before they exploded, they all swarmed to materials, so carpets, curtains, couches and things like that, I stopped as many as I could but you guys already saw how many there were, I couldn’t stop them.”
Lena listens to Kara carefully, looking for anything she can use to bring her brother down. “When did the last of the fires start? I can check the time against the last time the satellite was active.”
“Maybe around five-thirty to six, somewhere around that time,” Kara recalls, not entirely sure because between putting out the fires with her freeze breath and dragging people out of the buildings, she didn’t have much time to be checking her watch.
Lena grabs her laptop, opens it and rushes to get into the records of the satellite only to be left disappointed. “The satellite has been shut down. It’s inactive now.”
“What?” Alex rushes to look over her shoulder. “Why would it be shut down? Those things cost millions of dollars, if not billions, so why would he throw away a perfectly good one on this? What does Lex gain from doing any of this, there’s nothing he can gain from this.”
Staring down at the screen, Lena sits one part dumbfounded and two parts terrified. “He knows I’m here and I would guess that now that I’m no longer there building things for him, he isn’t getting enough decent tech coming up through Luthor Corp so the company will be losing money, a lot of it. I did seventy percent of all the builds in the lab and he wants to scare me into coming back. It’s working.”
“How can it be working, you know we’ll protect you, Lena, he won’t get to you.” Alex lets her anger simmer into her voice, not bothering to hide the fact that she thinks that is a terrible idea.
“It’s not about me. He’s showing me that he’ll just keep killing innocent people until I do come back and while Lex can’t do what I do, he is very good at covering his tracks.”
Brainy steps forward, adding something to the conversation for the first time in a while. “By my calculations, there is an eighty-four percent chance that he has made a mistake that would incriminate him in his crimes. The design of the bugs, while fully functioning, is sloppy, and the hardware within them, along with the serum inside them, isn’t something I’ve seen before, meaning it can likely be tracked. I don’t believe you will have to go back to Metropolis, and quite frankly, I don’t want you to.”
Lena’s lips turn down, trying not to cry for the millionth time today. “I don’t think we have time to look, his attacks have been so close together that I’m not convinced that we would find anything before he kills more people.”
Kara removes the laptop from atop of her knees, sliding it onto the coffee table instead. Then she takes Lena’s hand between her own. “Lena, I have superspeed, we can do this. You’re not going back, you belong with us, you’re a Super friend now, through and through.”
“You’re sure?”
Nia steps closer, dragging Brainy with her by his arm. “We’re sure, Lena. You’re one of us.”

Blue and Fire Engine Red, Pt 2
Kara shuts the door of her car shut behind her, and smoothes her sweating palms down the front of her jeans. She should have stayed in uniform, she thinks. She’s no longer on shift, but she always feels more confident with a badge pinned to her chest. As it is, wearing jeans and a tee shirt, she feels exposed, as though anyone looking at her would be able to see just how fast her heart is racing.
But she’s come this far-- she can see this through. Exhaling deeply, Kara starts the short walk up the drive to the firehouse’s open bay doors. As she crosses the threshold sounds of activity fills her ears. She glimpses firefighters rolling hoses and mounting them on the engine, and others are buffing the chrome bumper of the ambulance. She catches the eye of one, she thinks she recognizes him from multiple calls– Brainy, she’s heard the others call him. He brightens at the sight of her, and to her horror comes trotting over to greet her.
“You are approximately 32 minutes late, Sergeant Danvers,” he says precisely. He clasps his hands behind his back.
“I–I’m sorry?” Kara asks. She hadn’t told anyone she was coming, let alone what time she planned to show up.
“Since I glimpsed you conversing with Lieutenant Reilly, I anticipated you would seek her out. Seeing as your shift ended one hour ago, and the precinct is 30 minutes from the firehouse, you are, by my calculations, late.”
Kara blinks. “There was traffic on the freeway… how did you–?”
“The lieutenant can be found in the gym,” Brainy clips, extending an arm towards the far corner of the engine bay. There, Kara glimpses a glass paneled wall and the outline of a pull-down machine.
“Thank you,” Kara issues numbly.
“You are most welcome.” Brainy then turns and returns to the ambulance and his chores. By now Kara’s thundering heart has climbed to her throat, but it;s too late to back out now that she’s been seen.
Kara wipes her palms again, nodding to herself. “You can do this,” she murmurs. “Look sharp, Danvers.”
Kara follows the hum treadmills and the clink of weights to the back right corner, where a glass paneled room sat under the spiraling staircase up to the second floor. There she stops, mesmerized by a dark swinging ponytail. Lena.
Lena running.
Lena running in a tank top and spandex shorts. Muscled arms swing in rhythm with her bobbing head, and Kara can glimpse round earbuds nestled in her ears.
She almost turns away, if only to keep from getting caught ogling. But a sweaty towel smacks Lena in the side of the head, pulling her attention to the young woman smirking off to Kara’s left. Nia, is it?
“Got a visitor, LT!”
Lena’s head swivels towards Kara without breaking stride. Her sweaty features brighten at the sight of her.
“Sergeant Danvers!” she chirps. She hops onto the strats of the treadmill, taking a moment to tap the machine off before stepping down entirely. She uses Nia’s towel to wipe her glistening face and neck, her breath huffing lightly. Kara’s mouth goes dry. “I was beginning to think you weren’t coming.”
Kara blinks, giving herself a little shake to re-orientate herself. Then she gives as easy a grin as she can manage. “And give up a free autograph? Not on your life.”
A smirk crosses Lena’s features as Nia steps up to stand at her shoulder. “Autograph?”
Kara plucks her calendar from her bag, giving it a playful flourish. Nia’s brow furrows, then lifts in delight.
“Oh my god! Miss March has a fan?!”
Lena turns towards her coworker with a roll of her eyes. “Nal…”
“Yeah?”
“Give us a minute, will you?”
“But–!”
“Nia.”
Nia sighs. “Fiiiiine…” She grabs her water and phone from beside the weight bench, and all but prances out with a smug, knowing smile in Kara’s direction. “Nice seeing you, Sergeant.”
They wait until Nia slips out, leaning them together with nothing but charged air between them. Kara gazes at Lena, who gives a soft smile in return. “Hey.”
“Hey,” Lena smiles back. Her cheeks are flushed, and Kara feels a glimmer of satisfaction at the thought it might not be entirely from exertion.
“So…” she says. “I have a place or two in mind for that drink. Someplace… friendly.”
Lena gives a slow nod. “I like friendly.”
“Someplace where we could get some privacy.”
Another nod, this time accompanied by a deliberate step forward. “Privacy is good.”
“And, ahhh… one of them just so happens to be walking distance from my place.”
Dark eyebrows lift in surprise, and suddenly Kara finds herself awkwardly trying to reel herself back.
“I mean, you know, in case we can’t drive after. I didn’t mean to imply– not that I expected… um, that.”
Pressing her lips together, Lena waits for Kara to talk herself out. It serves to jolt Kara back into herself; she chuckles. “You going to cut me a break here or what?”
“Oh, no, not at all,” Lena returns, grinning. “I’m curious to see how far we’re not going to go on this date.”
Kara laughs. “Okay, okay. Look– what I mean is that I don’t expect anything more than a drink to get to know you better. That’s all.”
With a slow nod, Lena saunters even closer. “Message received,” she murmurs smoothly. “That said…”
She leans in close, until Kara can smell the tantalizing tang of sweat and the subtle fragrance of Lena’s shampoo. Her heart pounds so hard there’s no way Lena can’t hear it.
“If any of that,” Lena continues, “were to follow… I wouldn’t be averse to it.”
Unable to help her answering grin, Kara cocks her head. “Well, before we even get to that, we do have one order of business to get to first.”
She flips the calendar tauntingly between them, even going so far as to let the thing tap against Lena’s chest when she waggles it playfully. Lena glances down sharply, clearly having forgotten the “true” purpose of Kara’s visit. She throws her head back and laughs a full belly laugh that turns Kara’s insides to jello.
“Guess I’ll have to rustle up something to sign that with–”
A marker flies out of nowhere, bouncing off of Lena’s chest. She fumbles to catch it, and Kara lunges for it on reflex. Their heads crack together audibly, and they both stagger apart, cursing.
“Jesus fuck–!”
“Godammit!”
Nia’s voice calls cheerily from outside. “You’re welcome!”
Kara locks eyes with Lena, who grimaces at her.
“You said something about privacy?”

So here's my newest OC, Kara Navarro! I got really into the show 9-1-1 and just binged it. So she's a firefighter at the 118, she has a goddaughter, Eliza, that she adopted and a boyfriend who's a part of the Navy SEALs. She's close with Buck and Eddie, kinda like their sister, so she tries helping them when she can. I'm going to be uploading my very first 9-1-1 fic soon(either tonight or tomorrow) that stars her going to bat for Buck post-firetruck bombing!
I hope you guys like it. It has been a struggle tbh since life has just been hard for me. I will for sure do another fic(I have a long one planned, but that's not gonna be happening until I at least finish one other long fic), that might be focused on Buck and Bobby.
Check my AO3, Jedi_Knight_Willa to find the story soon!
Also, here's a headshot of her with red hair(my pfp) which was her OG design. Might bring back the red hair, might not, lol.

Do you have any ideas for Sylvie and Gallo's exits? What do you think would be good exits for these two characters?
Ooh what a fun ask!
For Sylvie: Well, I'm fairly certain it will be her moving to portland with the baby and Matt, either as an engaged woman or a married one. I'm hoping we'll at least to get to see their wedding before Sylvie leaves, but I'll settle with her having a lovely goodbye bash, especially if they can't get JS back for the exit. This I think in general is a pretty good exit, and honestly my only complaint is I wish they knew sooner that Kara would definitely be leaving so that we could've avoided the brettsey break-up entirely. I just really need a cute final scene of Sylvie, Stella and Violet.
For Gallo: This is a little less straightforward, because how I'd like him to leave the show versus how I'm fairly certain he'll be exiting. Depending I'm pretty sure he'll be killed off, I can say that I'll be extremely disappointed and upset by that as an ending.
However, my ideal ending for him would be him leaving because of something about his aunt. I can't see Gallo ever just deciding to leave the station, unless he's quitting being a firefighter, and I can't see him doing so unless forced. And that, imo, wouldn't be a good ending for the character. So I'd like it to be for some reason, probably to help his aunt which involves him having to move or whatever, and so he transfers to another station but it's all in all a happy ending for him.
Thank you for sending me this ask!!
