Uninvited (songfic, part 2)
Sequel/Follow-up to 'Iris'. Marinette knows that Argos has been following her and his presence is unwelcome. One night, while she is walking home, Mari is attacked by two strange men and, much to her surprise, Argos steps in to save her. When he suffers from a near fatal wound, what will the secret heroine do?
Based on the lyrics for 'Uninvited' by Alanis Morissette (1998) from the movie soundtrack for 'City of Angels'. Posted on AO3.
Part 1
~~~~~~~
Like anyone would be
I am flattered by your fascination with me
Like any hot-blooded woman
I have simply wanted an object to crave
But you, you're not allowed
You're uninvited
An unfortunate slight
Oh, Marinette knew she was being followed – she knew exactly who it was as well. Ever since the Diamond Dance and his oddly protective behavior towards her, Felix – as Argos – became the petite bluenette’s shadow. At first, she was disturbed and concerned he had discovered her heroic identity but, as days grew into weeks and weeks turned into months, it became obvious that he had no idea. Especially when he would attack her during akuma attacks and then stand sentry – his glowing magenta eyes standing out against the shadows – only a few rooftops away from her balcony. She could sense his curiosity was changing – at first suspicious and now something distinctly different. Whatever it was, Tikki agreed that his attentions did not seem threatening. Marinette only hoped he would find something else – someone else – fascinating soon as she had no time to spare. Her duties as Ladybug and the miraculous guardian were too important to have distractions…
Must be strangely exciting
To watch the stoic squirm
Must be somewhat heartening
To watch shepherd meet shepherd
But you, you're not allowed
You're uninvited
An unfortunate slight
Afterall, Felix had been the one to impersonate Adrien, the sole cause that akumatized her three friends, attempted to sexually assault her, betrayed her to Hawkmoth, only to take on the role of villain… The young designer could not readily forgive and forget. While Marinette remained the same person she had been, she had learned her lesson when Lila isolated her. She was thankful as it stripped away her naivety; she was now far more cautious with her heart, her time, her energy.
That’s why she decided to give up on loving Adrien. So many attempted kisses, missed opportunities, and failed confessions… It was as if the universe was giving her a message that she finally understood. He would always remain someone special to her but the disaster that was her love life was a distraction toward her miraculous mission: defeat Monarch and retrieve the jewels. The secret heroine focused on building their friendship instead. She knew Argos witnessed it all – it made her uncomfortable knowing he was likely laughing at her fickle feelings. How could he understand what laid in her heart?! What struggles she dealt with while she struggled to keep her head held high? To keep herself from drowning beneath her increasingly difficult responsibilities and obligations?
Perhaps he would leave her alone now.
Like any uncharted territory
I must seem greatly intriguing
You speak of my love like
You have experienced love like mine before
But this is not allowed
You're uninvited
An unfortunate slight
But even after watching her move beyond her crush, Argos remained her steadfast companion of a sort – never appearing directly to Marinette. He was simply there. Just on the edge of her sight but always silent, always out of reach, but always watching…
That’s why, when she was attacked late at night, she was shocked to see Argos intervene. Just having him present hampered her immensely! It risked her identity getting back to Monarch so she was unable to transform nor react as she normally would for fear for raising suspicions. Grabbed, roughed up, and mentally rattled, she was unsure what she was seeing was real. This purple and blue colored villain had finally shed the comfort of his shadows and appointed himself her champion. He stood in a defensive position in front of her, fan at ready and in a fighting stance. ‘Why?’ her mind questioned on repeat as she watched him fight, eyes blurry from being slapped. When he turned and offered his hand, she hesitated as she stared into his magenta eyes to seek the answers she most desired. ‘Why? Why now?’
That’s when she saw the flash of a knife behind him, glinting in the moonlight, as the taller man lunged. Her entire consciousness flooded with blinding fear and she screamed, “Look out!”
Argos turned but it was too late, the knife plunged into his side and Marinette felt her stomach suddenly drop. She choked on her breath, feeling the dread wring her vocal chords as she saw the blood seep into the material of his miraculous suit. ‘So much blood…’ Her panicked heartbeat roared in her ears as she stared wide-eyed, unable to hear anything else. Then he smirked, wrenching the knife from his body and transformed it into a minotaur sentimonster that chased her attackers off. The secret heroine should have been more concerned about the potential senti-threat but…
Her heart stopped and the silence deafened her as Argos focused his pain filled gaze upon her again. Marinette wasn’t sure what she said as her mind raced, her own eyes drawn to the seemingly never-ending blood that leaked from the large laceration in his side. When he collapsed beside her, his breathing becoming more ragged as his timer wound down, her Ladybug senses kicked into overdrive – assessing his injuries and attempting to staunch the bleed. That’s when his transformation fell away and bluebells met hazel green… she finally saw the broken and hurt boy, the fear and love that lay beneath his cold exterior.
“…I’m s-sorry, Angel…,” Felix’s fading voice seemed like it had been dragged through wet gravel and it set off alarms in her head. She did everything she could but, as he collapsed into her arms, everything screamed at her to save him!
“Tikki, spots on!” Marinette tucked the peacock miraculous into her yo-yo to keep it safe, hoisted Felix’s limp body into her arms, and zipped away towards the nearest hospital. Adrenaline swept away the pain that arose with each breath, each movement, as her body protested against using injured limbs. She didn’t care, couldn’t even think about that now. Her mind’s sole focus was on the blond teen in her arms and her new mission. He was—he was always there… He just couldn’t die!
The landing in the alley nearest the emergency room nearly knocked the wind from her lungs as the sprained ankle lanced pain up her leg and spine. She detransformed and gasped; stumbling as a wave of excruciating sensations caused tears to spring to her eyes within seconds. ‘I don’t have time to hurt,’ she scolded herself mentally. Pushing down the panic and anguish with gritted teeth, her eyes two burning coals of determination, she summoned her residual Ladybug strength to carry him in through the entry on unsteady feet.
After the flurry of doctors, half-truths, police reports, and bandages, she was finally deemed non-critical and was discharged. Marinette sat vigil outside the door to surgery, ice pack gingerly held over one eye as her mind recalling every minute in meticulous detail to keep the doom spiral from forming in her mind. The blood, the knife, the faces of the men… After a few hours, doctors wheeled him out and into a room for recovery. Although he would still take a while to recuperate, she was convinced that Tikki had loaned him a little luck as the knife had miraculously missed anything vital. ‘He’s alive, he’s alive, he’s alive,’ she thought on repeat.
“Marinette, you should pin Duusu’s broach to his chest, it should help him recover faster,” Tikki’s soft whisper broke her from her mental chanting. “We can always retrieve it before he is discharged if he cannot be trusted.”
“Good idea, Tikki. Thank you,” she hobbled into the attached bathroom to transform and retrieve the brooch. She re-entered the room as herself only a moment later, pinning and watching the peacock shaped pin transform into a less recognizable piece of jewelry upon his hospital gown. Duusu appeared with a flash and his gaze met Marinette’s.
“Guardian, I did not think you would return me to my holder,” the bird kwami bowed gratefully. “He’s not truly a villain, simply misunderstood and carries deep emotional wounds. Felix has desired to protect you. I don’t think he fully understands why. He will be so confused but happy when he realizes you are Ladybug!”
“Let’s keep my identity – as Ladybug and the guardian – a secret for the time being, shall we?” She pressed a finger to her lips and winked, Duusu giggled softly in response before settling in the crook of Felix’s neck with a coo.
An odd silence descended upon the room – filled with beeping, whirring, and distant chatter. Marinette’s eyes were drawn to Felix’s pale countenance. “He looks so fragile,” she murmured to herself. Minding the wires and tubes attached to him, the girl brushed the hair back from his face. Dark circles resided under his shut eyes, evidence of his late nights and long days. The bluenette settled into the chair at his bedside with a sigh, her eye blackened and shirt now dried with his blood. She glanced up at the clock on the wall, one in the morning.
I don't think you unworthy
I need a moment to deliberate
Marinette looked over his still form once again as the exhaustion settled into her bones, “I guess it’s my turn to watch you now, hmm?”
To Hell With a Reputation: A Mor Playlist
Not who you were expecting? Neither was I! Mor caught me by surprise the first time I read ACOMAF. This bright, fearless, and loyal lady was the first female friend Feyre had ever had, giving her the guidance that the males in her new fae life weren't quite able to give. "Don't Let The Hard Days Win" is probably a mantra for most of us now. Beneath that bubbly exterior, you have this complex individual who has survived terrible trauma and hides a lot of herself, to her own detriment. I think she deserves more in story. Like Cassian's playlist, I gave myself a lot more leeway with the music. Much more colorful sounds, but some darker lyrics. Listen Here! And meet me behind the cut!
Like a birth in reverse What I saw through the blinds You could say that I'm saying Phenomenal lies On the cosmic eternity Party line
This tune will haunt me through the war Ha, ha, ha, ha ha Laugh all you want but I want more 'Cause what I'm swearing, I've never sworn before
Woman King-Iron & Wine
Blackbird claw, raven wing Under the red sunlight Long clothesline, two shirtsleeves Waving as we go by
Rainbow-Kacey Musgraves
When it rains, it pours But you didn't even notice It ain't rainin' anymore It's hard to breathe when all you know is The struggle of stayin' above the risin' water line Well, the sky has finally opened The rain and wind stopped blowin' But you're stuck out in the same ol' storm again You hold tight to your umbrella Well, darlin', I'm just tryin' to tell ya That there's always been a rainbow Hangin' over your head
Happy TUC20! Last year, for the fifth anniversary of TUC Week, I wanted to create a playlist for every book in the series with one song per chapter. Well, I never got around for it, but when I saw @prophecyofgray's event I decided I’d use it as a second chance!
So, here’s my chapter-by-chapter playlist for Gregor the Overlander, with a brief description of why I chose each song. This one was tough, because so much of it is exposition, but I hope you enjoy and tune in to a couple of tracks during your (re)read! Click here to listen on Spotify. If you're gonna listen to anything, listen to Track 24, that's my favorite :)
1 - Could Be a Curse by Kaina - I almost went with Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark” for this one, because I wanted to capture how cooped up Gregor feels, and I think both songs capture that feeling of wanting more out of your life than you’re getting. I went with Could Be a Curse because the line “What if I die here, holding my breath” reminds me of Gregor at this point — he’s spent the last few years of his life holding his breath, wondering about his father’s fate.
2 - Come Along by Cosmo Sheldrake - Gregor and Boots meet the cockroaches and run to Regalia in this chapter. Cosmo Sheldrake’s music has such a unique and almost fantastical quality to it, and I thought this would be a good choice to represent how strange this new world is to Gregor and how quickly he’s whisked off into it.
3 - Uninvited by Alanis Morisette - This song goes hard. It was written for a movie about a fallen angel, so it captures the whole “I’m curious about you but also I don’t feel like you belong” dynamic Luxa and Gregor have in this chapter.
4 - Sound and Color by Alabama Shakes - “A new world hangs / Outside the window / Beautiful and strange.” Just another song I thought would be good for Gregor’s introduction to the Underland, especially with its line, “No more to see the setting of the sun.” Of course, Gregor’s only goal is to see the sun again.
5 - Plainsong by The Cure - I chose this song more for its sound than its lyrics. The shimmery, quiet chimes that begin the track give way to this explosion of synthy strings and bass, and I chose that to represent Gregor walking through the moths and seeing Regalia for the first time.
6 - Hotel California by The Eagles - Honestly I could not decide what song to use for this chapter. I nearly used the song I ended up using for chapter 10, but I went with this classic mostly for the line, “I had to find the passage back to the place I was before.” Gregor is realizing the fate of every other Overlander that falls, and he’s also beginning to realize he is something of a captive, so I think the song’s concept of a too-good-to-be-true place that traps all who enter fits well.
7 - Sinnerman by Nina Simone - One of the greatest songs ever, used here to try to replicate the chaos of Gregor on the run from the Regalians on the river, not knowing what danger waits for him.
8 - Come Away to the Water by Maroon 5 and Rozzi - The first of many tracks I stole from The Hunger Games soundtrack. Shoutout to Suzanne for reusing themes. This song is creepy, kind of charming, and intended to lure the listener to a slaughter — perfect for the gnawers, who in this chapter promise to hunt Gregor to the last rat, matching well with the song’s refrain, “We are coming for you.”
9 - Eight by Sleeping at Last - I was stumped on this one, so I turned to Sleeping at Last, whom everyone in the fandom was obsessed with before I joined tumblr. This chapter gives us the first glimpse behind Luxa’s walls as we learn of her parents’ fate. The lyrics “I was little, weak and perfectly naive / And I grew up too quick” match her very well, and frankly, they match Gregor, too.
10 - Run Daddy Run by Miranda Lambert - Another THG classic that fits too well. “Mama’s been crying in the kitchen / Sister’s been scared of the dark / I’ve been gathering the pieces of all these shattered hearts” represents Gregor’s family situation in the wake of his father’s disappearance all too well. In this chapter, Gregor finds out his dad is alive but held captive, and the chorus “Daddy, can you hear the devil drawing near? / Like a bullet from a gun, run, Daddy, run” fit the situation well for me.
11 - Baba O’Riley by The Who - Another chapter I was stumped by, but I ended up focusing on Gregor choosing to bring Boots on the journey for this track. I liked the line “don’t cry, don’t raise your eyes” for the idea of bringing a toddler on a deadly trek. This song depicts hope in a period of war, and I feel like this is the chapter where Gregor really begins to believe finding his dad is possible.
12 - Yellow Light by Of Monsters and Men - This is a good TUC song, through and through. I chose it for this chapter because of the line “Ignore all those big warning signs,” because this chapter has a lot of those. This is the first time we get a hint of Solovet’s true character, and it’s also the chapter where an inconsolable Nerissa foretells Henry will meet some fate worse than death.
13 - Electric Co. by U2 - U2 is my favorite band, so you’ll get a lot of them in these playlists. Sorry that I have the music taste of a 50-year-old man. Anyways, this chapter is where Luxa and Henry dare Gregor to jump off the side of the cliff, and also the chapter where Gregor learns Henry’s parents were killed by rats. “Boy, stupid boy / Don’t sit at the table / until you’re able to” reminded me of Gregor’s inability to hang with Luxa and Henry, but the whole song, which is about this young man careening out of control, reminded me of Henry.
14 - Cut the World by Anohni - This is the chapter where the questers have a discussion on whether or not weak individuals are worthy of protection, and Luxa is extremely passive on the topic. This is a beautiful song I almost saved for Marks of Secret because I think it’s a good song for her, and MoS is really her book in my eyes, but I decided to use it here. “For so long I’ve obeyed / That feminine decree / I’ve always contained / Your desire to hurt me / But when will I turn and cut the world” are good lyrics for Luxa, who is unwilling to take a stand here (but eventually does “cut the world” on behalf of those who can’t defend themselves in the fourth book, as we know). But I also like the song for the crawlers, who take abuse from every other species — Temp and Tick can hear this whole conversation about whether or not they’re worthy of living! — and survive regardless.
15 - Road Drum by Mozart Gabriel - This song has a strong beat, but it’s still pretty quiet, which I liked for the ring dance the crawlers perform. The song’s lyrics depict aid from spiders and foxes that the protagonist receives as they run from evil, and I liked the way that matched with Gregor splitting off from the group and running away from the battle with the gnawers and ultimately ends up in a spinner’s web.
16 - Roslyn by Bon Iver and St. Vincent - Song selected mostly for vibes, and also because I like the line “Wings wouldn’t help you down,” which is a little nose since Gregor’s imprisoned dozens of feet off the ground. This song’s kind of a bummer, which is a good enough fit since Gregor’s trapped wondering if all of his friends are dead and if he’ll ever be able to find his father, but it also has a pretty melody, hopefully a little similar to the sort of lullaby the spinners play to calm down Boots.
17 - Acrobat by U2 - Another Luxa song that I almost saved for Marks of Secret. It’s a little too on the nose, maybe, because this is the chapter where Luxa and Aurora the Coiler to allow everyone to escape. “And I must be an acrobat / To talk like this and act like that” fits Luxa well at this point in her character arc — a bratty 11-year-old who seems haughty and cold, only to have these moments where her brave, selfless core is revealed.
18 - We’re Going to be Friends by The White Stripes - this is a gentle song for a relatively gentle chapter, a sort of breath of fresh air. Gregor saving Luxa with root beer (and then letting her try it after) is a turning point in their relationship, and Boots pouring out a little for everyone to try is one of the most harmonious moments we get in the whole book.
19 - The House of the Rising Sun as performed by The Animals - “Oh mothers, tell your children / Not to do what I have done.” I love this song for Ripred. I love the way it sounds, and I love its lyrical content. Obviously, he’s not a man destitute in New Orleans, but he is certainly a cynical old rat who recognizes all the ways he’s gone wrong. In terms of regrets, it’s also a good song for Vikus, who is staring down his own mistakes in this chapter.
20 - Sympathy by Vampire Weekend - Ah, the mutual need song. Also the Gregor-Luxa-Ripred triumvirate song. “Enemies for centuries / Until there was a third” is pretty good for them, right? This is sort of a tongue-in-cheek piece about what we’re willing to do, and what we’re willing to look past, so long as we have a common enemy, so I think it’s perfect for Gregor and Ripred’s famous conversation, and also for the spiders joining the quest now that their backs are to the wall.
21 - Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls - This chapter was so tough for me. We got Gox drinking Treflex, we got Luxa talking about how she tells herself she’s gonna die every morning and Gregor realizing that’s not too different from what he does, we got a more in-depth description of bonding, and somehow I ended up with Iris, which I know has become kinda tacky. I thought a song about wanting someone to really understand you was fitting for a chapter about bonds, but also fitting for Luxa talking about how her parents’ death affected her.
22 - Little Dark Age by MGMT - Not really much to explain here. Every character is miserable in this chapter, and something about this song reminds me of Henry’s increasingly concerning behavior. “Forgiving who you are for what you stand to gain?” Sounds Henry-ish!
23 - 500 Miles by Peter, Paul and Mary - Tick’s death is a point of no return for Gregor in this whole series, the first major loss he experiences. Even beyond the grief of losing Tick, the situation in this chapter is so desolate, with Boots sick and all of the horrible things Gregor has witnessed finally catching up with him. “500 Miles” is about homesickness, but also recognizing that you can’t return, and the saddest line to me is “Lord, I can’t go home this way.” Gregor can’t go home, yet, either, since he hasn’t found his father.
24 - Until The End of the World by U2 - If you listen to any song here, PLEASE listen to this one. I made this whole series of playlists just to work this one in. It tells the story of Judas and Jesus, from Judas’ point of view, which is so, so perfect for Henry and his relationship with Ares and Luxa. I love the way this song sounds — I can just imagine those opening notes when Gregor decides what he’s going to do — but my favorite part is the outro. This technically happens in the next chapter, but “Waves of regret and waves of joy / I reached out for the one I tried to destroy / You / You said you’d wait until the end of the world” is such a perfect thing for Henry’s demise because of Ares’ decision to break the bond.
25 - King and Lionheart by Of Monsters and Men - “And as the world comes to an end / I’ll be there to hold your hand / Because you’re my king and I’m your lionheart” makes me cryyyyyy for Gregor and his dad in this chapter. Gregor’s been so brave for so long, and the reunion they have when his father finally becomes lucid again is the best moment in the book, even though scores of rats are waiting to tear them apart.
26 - Drowning Man by U2 - Another chapter, another U2 song, this one for Gregor bonding with Ares. The whole song is a good bonding song, but the lyrics “Take my hand / You know I’ll be there if you can / I’ll cross the skies for your love” remind me the most of their particular situation, down to Gregor begging Ares to recite the verse back.
27 - A Sort of Homecoming by U2 - Perhaps Prophecy of Bane will have less U2 songs. Good Lord. Anyways, I chose this song for “Oh don’t sorrow, no, don’t weep / For tonight, at last, I am coming home / I am coming home” and the whole “you’re scarred for life but at least you’ve made it home” vibe of this song as Gregor, his dad and Boots finally make it back to Grace.
URL Tag
Rules: Spell Your URL with song titles and tag as many people as there are letters.
tagged by @lynnenne a few days ago, finally getting around to this. I have three S in my url, but luckily there are a lot of songs that begin with that letter.
The newest song on the list is from 2013. I am definitely not in touch.
S - Smother by Daughter - In the darkness, I will meet my creators // And they will all agree, that I'm a suffocator
T - Tessellate by alt-J :
Bite chunks out of me You're a shark and I'm swimming My heart still thumps as I bleed And all your friends come sniffing
R - Rid of Me by PJ Harvey - Tie yourself to me // No one else, no
E - Evil by Interpol - But hey, who's on trial?
U - Uninvited by Alanis Morissete - Must be strangely exciting // To watch the stoic squirm
S - Sleepwalker by Adam Lambert - I'm not asleep, I'm not awake, After the way you loved me
S - Sorrow by The National - I don't wannna get over you
A - Awful by Hole - Oh, just shut up you're only 16
L - Lover I Don't Have to Love by Bright Eyes - Bad actors with bad habits // Some sad singers, they just play tragic
Trying to tag people whose names are under 10 letters, obviously feel free to ignore: @jiggit, @blueiight, @kaelio, @anyagee, @glorianas, whoever feels like it.
Hello, lovely Charlotte! The other day that I was going through your blog I noted that you do take requests, so my mind started buzzing and I wanted to drop by to ask if I could request a spooky, vampiresque edit? I’d love love love to see your take on it. I have three songs in mind that could be cool as inspo (but you don’t really have to use them if you don’t like any of them! These are just songs I think are different vampire vibes)
1. Uninvited by Alanis Morrissette (the ultimate vampire song imo)
2. Iris by Kim Dracula (it’s a cover but they make it way more eerie/dark)
3. Change (In The House of Flies) by Deftones (Idk if Deftones would be your style, but this is more of a grunge vamp vibe to me because this song is from the ‘Queen of the Damned’ soundtrack)
Again, you really don’t need to listen to/use any of these as inspo at all! I’m just super curious to see what you come up with with a vampy vibe in mind, regardless of the song! 🥰 (and I know it would be so badass, considering the artworks you chose when I asked for a ‘Deadman’s Party’ art vibes during your blog celebration!)
Thank you so much in advance, my lovely! 🖤🖤🖤
hello my darling Irma! so lovely to see you in my inbox! 🥰
I do indeed take requests!! (I'm just atrociously slow at actually completing them, which I am very sorry about)
I was so taken with the vibes of "uninvited" that I actually did two vampire-y edits inspired by it, one that posted today, and one that will go up tomorrow!
I hope you like what I've done with these, but of course always feel free to let me know if you'd like something different! 💕💕
sending so much love to you always!! 🥰☺️
I was listening to Ghost by Justin Bieber (Seungmin's cover is amazing <3) earlier today, and I thought it fit with Uninvited.
"I miss you more than life."
I could imagine Chan thinking that when the MC died.
By the way, I've read all of Uninvited and am currently reading Unhinged, and I can't wait to see how it all plays out! I love the story so far! You're doing great <3
WOW thank you so much for putting me onto this song!!! Its such a big honor to be told the characters are developed enough in your mind to hear echoes of them in music. I connect to music deeply, the title Uninvited comes from Alanis Morisette's song of the same name. Its very enchanting, ethereal, and supernatural. I'm growing a playlist I write too, thank you for this addition and for the kind words and support! I'm always down for more music reccs whenever you got em!
I was tagged by @blairwaldcrf to do this (ty!)
Pick any five OTPs and choose just one song you associate with each.
I’m just going to choose a few ships that have been on my mind. Also, tbh, the song choices are heavily influenced by a.) what I’ve been listening to recently; b.) a very sui generis sense of humour. I’m not sorry.
-Eleanor Guthrie & Max from Black Sails. Mirel Wagner’s “What Love Looks Like” was the first that came to mind. PERFECT for their breakup, IMO (“this pain I breath / has poisoned me / dreamt a dream / now I’m spitting bitter tears”). But. I won’t lie. Immediately afterwards I thought of Donna Summer’s “Bad Girls” , which I’ve been listening to on a loop this week. Err. Take it as a pre-show established relationship thingy that highlights a messed up, rarely talked about aspect of their relationship? (“hey mister, have you got a dime / mister, do you want to spend some time, oh yeah / I got what you want, you got what I need / I’ll be your baby, come and spend it one me”).
-Lyra Silvertongue & Will Parry from His Dark Materials. I’m going to pick Hozier & Karen Crowley’s “In A Week”, Because (“we’ll lay here for years or for hours / thrown here or found, to freeze or to thaw / so long, we’d become the flowers / two corpses we were, two corpses I saw / and they’d find us in a week / when the weather gets hot / after the insects have made their claim / I’d be home with you, I’d be home with you”).
-Caroline Forbes & Klaus Mikaelson from The Vampire Diaries. I’m specifying that one show, and focusing on the early days, because TO had a progression that definitely doesn’t fit the song that came to mind LOL: Alanis Morissette’s “Uninvited” (“like anyone would be / I am flattered by your fascination with me / like any hot blooded woman / I have simply wanted an object to crave / but you, you’re not allowed / you’re uninvited / an unfortunate slight“)... yeah xDD
-Bela Talbot & Dean Winchester from Supernatural. I keep thinking of them thanks to, of all things, this gifset of Lilah and Wesley in Angel (which is also making me want to rewatch the season 4 finale and cry about it, btw). I’m faaaar better at coming up with solo Bela songs than with Deanbela songs, I can’t lie xD (some of them work for both of them since the similarities are there, but not exactly for their dynamic iykwim). But, I mean. I don’t think I can’t resist picking Siouxsie and the Banshee’s “Face to Face”. It’s the Batcat song! ( “another life, another time / we’re siamese twins writhing intertwined / face to face, no telling lies / the masks slide to reveal a new disguise / [...] / and you’ll never know / you’ll never know / you’ll never know”).
-Laila Rose & Darius Calantis from The Essence of the Equinox (see rec post here!). Florence & The Machine’s “What Kind of Man” popped into my head immediately. Although, in my mind, it’s Darius singing it <333 (“and with one kiss / you inspired a fire of devotion / that lasted twenty years / what kind of man loves like this / to let me dangle at a cruel angle / my feet don’t touch the floor / somethings you’re half in and then you’re half out / but you never close the door”).
I’m tagging... @missbrunettebarbie @equusgirl @nectargrapes @grapecaseschoices @bellamygate @homosexualslug @peresephones and whoever else feels up for it!
14. a song made suddenly awful because of a special someone
First off, thank you for being kind enough to understand that it might be too hard for me to think of certain songs! I'm fine with mentioning it, I just -probably- wouldn't willingly listen to it. This might sound lame because it's your typical love song, but it is Photograph by Ed Sheeran. I love it and it made me cry the first time I listened to it. However, I made a video for somebody who used to be special to me using that song, and when things ended between us, I just couldn't bear to even look at the video anymore, or listen to the song again. We've all been there huh?
17. a song for raging
I'm sure a lot of people know Tears Don't Fall by Bullet for my Valentine, but maybe less people know that there is a sequel song called Tears Don't Fall pt.2 and that's the one I would choose for raging. The reason why I prefer the second song over the first is that the lyrics in the first one sound more desperate, whereas in the second song they exude anger.
35. a great song you discovered thanks to a movie
When I watched City of Angels, I really liked the vocalist of a certain song, which later turned out to be Uninvited by Alanis Morissette. It's one of the oldest additions to my music library, still there to this day!
37. a song you’re ashamed to have in your music library
LMAO I have many idiotic pieces from the 90s and the early 2000s in my music library... may I present you Mmmbop by Hanson which accompanied many summer days in my childhood?
Meme - tag 9 people
Three ships: Goo Hae-Ryung and Min U-won (I'll never get tired of them), Rosaline and Benvolio (damn you, Shonda Rhymes), Harry and Hermione (I think I'll mop about these two forever).
First ever ship: Dara and Igor, from a cheesy soap-opera many, many years ago. Probably, they inaugurated my taste for arranged marriages and doomed ships.
Last song: Uninvited, Alanis Morissette
Last movie: Lady Chaterley's Lover
Currently reading: Still Star-Crossed (want to know how continues, since the show was cancelled. It's light and fun, like a fanfiction with all the tropes I like) and Dirty Hearts (still struggling to catch up with my 2022 to read list)
Currently watching: Handmaid's Tale, season 5. Or better saying, trying to pick up where I left off.
Currently consuming: avocado. It's season!
Currently craving: Still Star Crossed reboot, with a decent storyline, better costumes and Lashana Lynch and Wade Briggs making special appearances. And a new tablet.
Thank you @rosyfingered-moon for tagging me!
Tagging @vegaelettra @solitaryparade @therefugeofbooks @larmsicle @world-smitten @counting-dollars-counting-stars @wltramarine @fragmentosdeginevra @citynalu if you like to give it a try
Well, obviously Inkpot Gods. :p But also Uninvited for Fenhawke, maybe.
Oof I almost can't listen to Inkpot Gods while thinking of Destiel. That sends me into a massive angst spiral over 15x18 lol
Like.. this makes me want to novelize seasons 12 through 15 but give it a Destiel focus, and a proper finale. OR AN ANGSTY ONE. This would be the one where Dean grabs on to Castiel at the last moment and gets dragged into the Empty with him, leaving Sam and Jack to defeat Chuck on their own. Dean and Castiel stay stuck in the Empty, but they're together forever.
Oops sorry I made it worse lol
As for Uninvited, if you mean the Alanis Morissette version that's on the playlist I made for fenhawke when I was writing Peace Begins With a Smile lol.... That IS the fenhawke anthem! From Fenris' POV, especially since Hawke is always a mage when I imagine them together.
There's a cover by Red Sun Rising, which has a male singer, and gives me modern AU vibes. Fenris is the singer for a band, usually known for heavy metal. He's always wearing skin tight leather, and piercings dangle from his ears, and the white tattoos glow in black light. He performs this cover at a hole in the wall bar where Hawke is the owner of the place. Hawke is soooo into him, and invites Fenris' band to keep coming back. Fenris is leery of a relationship because he's demisexual, and he's had some abusive partners in the past, and he just doesn't want to deal with any of the messiness. Hawke manages to crack through his shell though.
There WILL be sex against the bar after hours.
