it's still quiet, shadow realizes. it's just him.

but if it's true, and he can do what he wants again, then that raises another question: what does he want to do, anyway? eat people? n... no, that's what the plants wanted. get revenge on the space colony for what gerald did? no, that's... also what the plants wanted.

he takes a breath. no vines appear to choke it out of him.

his fear is ebbing.

then the relief sets in. when he finally calms down enough to take in his surroundings. it's not green, like he'd become so accustomed to. like his world had been smothered in. now, it's blue. there's so much water. and he finally sees sonic (who by this point looks very worried).

shadow remembers what he wants. and it's so twisted, cuz he remembers his world was shattered. a horrible situation, everyone and everything he's ever known is gone and might never return--but that's just it. he wants to get it all back. he wants to fix his world. and he's so relieved to reclaim that goal, because it was taken from him by the plants. no matter how horrible his situation... at least he knows that it's his own.

Do you know how hard it is to do something like that even once? And he did it constantly. Nobody asked him to do it. He didn't have to do it. But he did.
